i will always dislike the stereotype that cisgender men are just beings who only think / care about sex, so my cis men out there who are asexual or just genuinely don't think sex is that important, you are seen and will always be valid :D /gen

if you see a male character kiss a male character, you assume they are gay.

if you see a female character kiss a female character, you assume they are a lesbian.

if you hear a character say they don't feel like their gender, you assume they are trans.

so why do a-spec characters have to jump through so many loops?

a character saying they've never had a crush or don't want a relationship or that they don't understand romantic love is so often ignored or used as fodder for other queer or autistic headcanons (reinforcing stereotypes that aroace people are secretly gay or always autistic)

why is it that our stories are always "up to interpretation"? why do we have to wait for the words aromantic or asexual to be said to be taken seriously? why is it that even when characters say they don't want relationships, fans will scream and cry about sex/romance favourable aspecs and qprs?

when it comes to gay and trans characters, even the likes of bisexual lighting is often treated as though it canonises their sexuality. for aroace characters, even the most explicit coding possible is swept under the rug in favour of other "interpretations"

i'm so tired of fighting for representation just to have it ignored and minimised by fans. let characters be aroace. please.

Growing up as aromantic / asexual:

In my childhood and adolescence

After 10 years of desensitization by watching popular media...

...and after few months on Tumblr

I did not even realize how much fed up I already was with all the cisheteronormative couples struggling with stereotypical "gender roles" dilemmas, "traditional family" conflicts and "social expectations" of patriarchal world...

I mean how many times can you watch the same issues over and over again when none of it ever was part of your own not-partnering single life in the first place?

i don't think folks realize this, just because it's all fantasy worldbuilding, but dungeon meshi is absolutely a work of speculative evolution. the only major difference is the addition of a semi-sentient wish granting force called magic. (not unlike @dimespin's worldbuilding)

it takes a variety of fake creatures with biology that doesn't quite add up usually, and places it in the context of "while creatures are evolving, their wishes shape them" and manages to explain every monster from there.

dragons are a type of salamander that wished it could eat larger prey (just make it bigger, unintended consequence of sedentary lifestyle) wished they could make food could sustain them for longer (fire breath derived from the gizzard cooks food, makes it provide more nutrition)

it also manages to explain the different fantasy races pretty handily with this (one king wished for his people to be immortal -> folks wanted their life to end at some point, say 1000 years -> everyone wants to live for different lengths of time eg. some folks think 50 years is plenty while others feel they need around 500)

elves have a higher mana capacity because somewhere along their lineage, they wanted to use magic, but this leaves little energy for much else

dwarves are incredibly strong because they wished for it, but that strength comes from the same nutritional budget as everyone else, so they get exhausted quickly

someone wished dogs could talk and they eventually got kobolds

but the most common of those desires was some rephrasing of "i'm hungry, i wish i wasn't"

and so magic gained a hunger

and wanted to eat, like any hungry creature

and it started to evolve to make eating easier

aromantic and asexual cis men seriously need more recognition, they've been told that being a virgin above the age of 18 is weird and that all cis men are p0rn brained and they've seen that romance and sex is very important to a man and you need to have it or you're confirmed "lame" "boring" and a "virgin loser" /gen
