honestly one thing that’s kinda crazy after growing up on tumblr (during what I’d call) the height of the soul eater fandom, is that soul eater is still WILDLY popular, just not how I’m used to

I mean, Meg the stallion cosplaying kid was INSANE— she’s SO INSANE for that— and it ATE DOWN??

and also, soul eater is SO popular on tiktok?? there’s so many trends that specifically involve those cheesy fucking eclectic poses that okubo would draw the teams in, you know what I’m talking about right— (Maka giving back shots to soul) and ppl copying them and having fun and it honestly makes me so happy

like ppl still LOVE this serious, it makes me so happy and it astonishes me so much to see some soul eater cosplay video getting upwards of 50k+ likes bc WHAT. clearly back in 2015 we weren’t reaching our full potential 👁️👄👁️

and get this, soma is still popular but what I’ve observed is that platonic soul mates soma is I think THE MAJORITY ship where I’ve looking? That’s insane from the pov of someone having grown up on here 2013-2019, before things rly started slowing down. Absolutely insane. Soma foothold was so strong. Anons were sent. Antis were made. Families were torn apart (jokes jokes,,, but what if 👀)

While the ancient Greeks and therefore mythology had a massive lookism problem, there’s a surprising amount of monster romance with some important characters being descended from them:

Chrysaor was a boar monster and he married the beautiful nymph Calliroe.

Echion was a Spartoi, born from dragon’s teeth (so probably didn’t look like a normal dude) yet he married the princess Agave daughter of Cadmus.

Erichthonius was a snake man and the king of Athens (therefore the ancestor of Athenian nobility) and he married the nymph Praxithea.

Cecrops I was also a snake man and king of Athens and married Aglaurus.

And of course, Medusa was Poseidon’s lover.

In at least one source Hecate (who’s sometimes depicted as monstrous) was the mother of Scylla by Apollo

Edit: oh and Heracles with the Scythian snake woman! I can’t believe I forgot about them!

These are the ones I remember but I think there’s more.

This little sequence from Hyginus' Fabulae where Creon recognizes Antigone and Haemon's son remained stuck inside my head:

What the hell do you mean by "mark on their bodies"? Do they have scales or serpent-like skin? Do they have a birth mark resembling a dragon or a snake? Do all those from the Theban Royal family have them or only those who are direct descendants of the Spartoi? Did Pentheus have one too? I need answers! Je ne comprends pas, mon frère! Spirit Albarn : half-Phantonian? What do you mean about that, dear? Are you saying that Maka's half-human and half-Phantonian, does that mean that she's some kind of Alien hybrid?

That's how Inky Albarn wasn't involved for that, she knew the whole thing. Her plans on conquering the earth could be a fresh one, but I simplified that her weakness can be unknown.

Spartoi Maka : Impossible! She using Blood magic to create weapons?! No one has ever done it before and I bet you won't even stop this attack! Chaos Spear! (Uses Chaos Spears to attack Maka, but she deflects it by swinging her scythe) How can she even do that?!

Maka Albarn : And now...(shifts her weapon into a Boxing glove) You're finished!

*DBZ SFX : STRONG PUNCH X3*

Spartoi Maka : GUWA-HAAAAA! *DBZ SFX : Collapses* This... Isn't over! I am the ultimate meister to be...created.

I was thinking about this quote earlier, and now I present to you, a list (taken from my memory, so some examples may be missing) of everything Percy managed to achieve either without Annabeth in the picture or with very minimal involvement from her:

Fighting a fury (Alecto), and killing her

Fighting the Minotaur, and killing him

Resisting Clarisse’s bullying

Managed to pull off a difficult sword manoeuvre (according to Luke) on his first try (granted he did douse himself with water, but that was before Percy knew of his parentage)

Was the one to realise something was wrong at the Lotus Hotel and Casino and broke Annabeth out of her delusions

Possibly a questionable one, but I would say coming up with the plan to distract Cerberus. If you agree that the plan was basically ‘distract Cerberus with playtime’, (which Grover credits Percy with), the issue was not the plan but the items involved. Since if it was Annabeth’s plan originally why wouldn’t she just use the red ball straight away?

Fights Ares and draws first blood (or ichor, in the case of Ares)

In the fight against the Laistrogynians, Annabeth doesn’t show up until almost the end. Tyson does most of the work, why isn’t Tyson gettting credit, Reyna? 😡

Saves Annabeth from the Sirens

Alongside Tyson, fights Polyphemus

Is the one to give the Fleece to Clarisse, meaning Luke can’t get his hands on it. Annabeth calls him insane for doing this and says he’s ‘too nice’ and acts as though Percy is mad for trusting Clarisse to get back to camp.

There’s probably a load more I’m missing, but that’s all I can remember up to the end of House of Hades. Is there a reason why Annabeth doesn’t bother to correct Reyna?

There's just something poetic in the fact that Cadmus, a Phoenician man (and a non-greek "barbarian" by extension) had a close relationship with the exact same men that were born from a dragon's teeth and allowed one of them to marry one of his daughters and become his son-in-law due to his great valor. Diodorus Siculus argues in a rationalized myth version that Cecrops being half-snake is rather a metaphor for him being half-greek and half-barbarian. So having Cadmus, a "barbarian", allowing a man who descended from a *snake* to marry his daughter gives more nuance to their relationship.

CADMUS SLAYS THE DRAGON /1573-1617/ by HENDRIK GOLTZIUS

This is a scene from Greek mythology, Cadmus, is in a deadly battle with a dragon guarding a sacred spring. The dragon killed his men sent to fetch water, When Cadmus discovered the fate of his men, he vowed to avenge them, leading to the dramatic confrontation depicted in Goltzius' painting.

In the composition, one of the dragon's heads is devouring Cadmus' companions. While he thrusts his spear in another of the heads, it is a moment of violence and vengeance. The figures in the painting have detailed anatomical features, highlighting the interest in human form common during that time.

Right after the dragon's defeat, a voice prophesied that Cadmus would one day become a serpent himself. Minerva, the goddess of wisdom, then appeared to Cadmus, instructing him to sow the dragon's teeth into the soil. This act would lead to the creation of a new race of warriors known as the Spartoi, leading to the founding of Thebes.

After a while, Cadmus reflected on his past and expressed a wish to be transformed into a snake as punishment for his actions. He lamented, "If that serpent was sacred... may I lay out my length as a long-bellied snake? "No sooner had he uttered these words than he was indeed transformed into a serpent.
