This little sequence from Hyginus' Fabulae where Creon recognizes Antigone and Haemon's son remained stuck inside my head:
"When she bore a son, and he grew to manhood, he came to Thebes to the games; Creon recognized him because all those of the dragon's progeny have a mark on their bodies."
What the hell do you mean by "mark on their bodies"? Do they have scales or serpent-like skin? Do they have a birth mark resembling a dragon or a snake? Do all those from the Theban Royal family have them or only those who are direct descendants of the Spartoi? Did Pentheus have one too? I need answers! Je ne comprends pas, mon frère! Parlez vous s'il te plaît!

Soo fascinated by the fact that Antigone (and friends) never outright say whether or not they think Polynices is a traitor.
Creon says it happily. And Antigone mentions it in the beginning(“with the contempt we reserve for traitors”) but every other time, she skirts around the question. She won’t say outright whether he is or not. And she won’t say if it matters. Because it doesn’t! Traitor or not, he is her brother. Haemon does the same. Even Ismene doesn’t outright say that she thinks Polynices is a traitor

SGA Background Character Register
Pegasus Natives | Genii
-
Decided to start a Pegasus Native register
I'm debating on adding a sheet that describes these characters' attributes so they can be easily added to any fic
-
Notes:
- Only Genii with names - Canonically female characters are marked because there are less of them - Alive: Meaning we never saw them die or been informed of their death
Feel free to use this as you see fit just please keep my user name on the image

i'm committing to the bit y'all
no time frame on when exactly this is gonna be done but there are Plans which is better than some projects i've worked on
@most-tragic-character-tournament winning the ship has kept me going forward with this absolute nonsense and i wouldn't have it any other way (and to those brave anons who suggested the idea to begin with)
#ninjago#lloyd garmadon#tagammemnon#antigone#tragedyshipping#haemon#creon#ismene#kai ninjago#jay walker#cole ninjago#zane julien#nya ninjago#tragedy: null and void#please don't look too closely at clothing and the folds i am doing my best#the plan is trailer first#then the fic probably because i have an outline for it#and then if this crackship still has a hold on my brain i'll try to get around to ''i won't say i'm in love''#i still need to get more consistent with antigone's hair...#''why is lloyd the only one in the hero armor'' because i didn't want to draw the others in it#my friend is the one who said lloyd should have golden scales which yeah. he was right for that one#willowarts

I usually have conflicting opinions when it comes to Antigone and Haemon. In Sophocles' Antigone, while Haemon definitely loved her, Antigone doesn’t mention him even once throughout the entire play, and even says that she would rather lose a husband or a son rather than a brother. In Euripides' Antigone (which unfortunately got lost and survives only in fragments) presents them two as being already married, having a son named Maeon, and Haemon being discovered helping her bury Polynices. At least according to Aristophanes of Byzantium, who wrote about the differences between Sophocles' and Euripides' plays. In Euripides' Phoenician Women though, Antigone says that she'll kill her fiancé, and that their engagement is broken. Finally, this is Hyginus' account:
"ANTIGONA ANTIGONE: Creon, son of Menoeceus, made an edict that no one should bury Polynices or any of those who had come with him, because they came to attack their native city. Antigona, Polynices' sister, and Argia, his wife, with secrecy at night took his body and put it on the same pyre where the body of Eteocles was placed. When they were caught by the guards, Argia escaped, but Antigona was brought before the king. He gave her to his son Haemon, to whom she was betrothed to be put to death. Haemon out of love disobeyed his father's command, entrusted Antigona to shepherds, and falsely claimed he had killed her. When she bore a son, and he grew to manhood, he came to Thebes to the games; Creon recognized him because all those of the dragon's progeny have a mark on their bodies. When Hercules begged him to pardon Haemon, he did not win his request. Haemon killed himself and his wife Antigona. But Creon gave his own daughter Megara to Hercules in marriage. Their sons were Therimachus and Ophites."
So while I do preffer Euripides' Antigone the most and I do believe that they two have "Star-Crossed Lovers" potential (as long as there's a well written fanfiction, of course - I barely have any trust in retellings), I cannot overlook the rest of these contradictory versions. It's a similar case with the relationship between Dionysus and Ariadne, where they two are nowdays portrayed as this lovey-dovey couple despite the fact that one of the oldest mentions of Ariadne is in the Odyssey, where she's killed by Artemis at Dionysus' request. The difference is that Antigone and Haemon are still overlooked and underrated compared to them.

I’m kind of obsessed with Haemon.
He’s young, about 16. He lost just as much as one in the war did. He lost his brother, too. Unlike Creon, though, he doesn’t seem to blame Polynices. Or, at least never says it outright.
He’s so devoted to Antigone. He’s in love. The all consuming first love. He would do anything she asks. He does! Even without her asking, Haemon kills himself just to be with his bride.
In a way, he’s just like his father. He’s stubborn. He lets one thing, one idea become all consuming. In this time, it’s love. And, like the woman he loves so dearly, he dies for it.
Haemon is so underrated, but he’s such a complex character just like everyone else in the play. That’s why I love him.

I wonder if I should start making posts about Haemon on here? My friend got really into it, but I became discouraged after asking for feedback. I really wish I didn't get discouraged.
I hope every writer who sees this writes LOADS the next few months. Like freetime opens up, no writers block, the ability to focus, etc etc you're able to write loads & make lots of progress <3
