Some random, unpolished thoughts: some of you truly play into classist stereotypes without even realizing it.

Take it from a bitch raised in NY/NJ: I couldn't begin to tell y'all the number of times folks from richer cities or neighborhoods would be surprised to see people from my city and realize we aren't "ugly".

They expect us to be dirty, unkempt, smell a certain way (they insist it isn't bad, just distinctive) and look a certain way. Big bruisers that look like brutes, "built like a fridge/gym ball" cause they except us all to be extremely unfit/unhealthy. They're surprised we weren't "ratchet" looking, surprised we could speak "English properly", surprised we weren't some gaunt, scar-faced ridden kids with no manners. Surprised we're intelligent. Surprised we care about education/school. And the thing that really irked us kids the most is that they were ALWAYS surprised we weren't "ugly".

Kids and adults from wealthier backgrounds would always hit me and other kids I knew with this "compliment": "You're actually pretty for someone from your city/neighborhood."

The worst part is that depending on the kid, you could just SEE that they take it as a genuine compliment because 'wow these cool rich people don't think I'm a hideous creature just because im poor :D'.

Yes, it was easier to take advantage of kids like us because of the class disparity. But, it was also easier for people to blame us when they'd see that we were a certain level of "attractive". I know it sounds ridiculous to some who haven't lived through that, but its the honest truth. If we were deemed the more "good looking" kids, we were then also seen as more inherently "mature".

We were their perfect little minorities, until the issues plaguing our communities, the collective traumas many of us experienced as children made us bad victims, or bad survivors. Then, we were back to being poor, ugly, dirty children.

I could walk down the corner store of my house and have some folks from a wealthier city or neighborhood go on and on about the "potential" kids like me could have if we we're to integrate into their social circles and keep quiet about the injustices we personally faced.

Did we as poor kids only deserve personhood if someone wealthier and "more just" than us came to our rescue?

This is all to say, some of you in these fandoms do not actually care to dismantle classist stereotypes. It's not just about us being violent with no manners and destined for crime. You guys think we are inherently uglier, dirtier and less intelligent. And then you go on ahead and apply that to characters from poorer backgrounds too. Many of you don't know what its like to grow up in an impoverished city neighborhood and while thats okay if you didn't experience it, you don't take the time to actually dismantle your own ignorances and prejudice.

My thoughts are that Sam would be an ostrich (or an emu) because he's tall.

Dean would be a secretary bird, because eyelashes.

And Cas (it all started with him actually) would be a crested caracara, because of the black feathers on the head, which can move depending on the caracara's feelings. His face can change colors depending on those feelings as well.

And I think the change of colors is also possible for the secretary bird, so imagine them interacting and being all flustered.

That's it, that's the thought. Sam is there too but he's too tall to see what's happening down there.

anyway i have to give a presentation for my ap gov final tomorrow which originally was just going to be about the effect of conspiracy theories on political activity (think qanon, jan 6 etc) but i ended up putting it off until tonight, predictable because i'm 17 with roblox on my phone and haven't taken my adhd meds for a long time, but it means i have much more liberty to change the premise last-minute and considering the horrifying news out of colorado today i think i am going to adapt it to cover the overlap of conspiracy theories with antisemitism and the pipeline to like. radical extremism. it probably won't go over especially well with my classmates because Room Full Of Sheltered White Upper Middle Class Teenagers From An Overwhelmingly Liberal Small Town Has Exactly The Opinions On Israel/Palestine That You Might Expect, but the teacher at least worked in israel for several years as a part of her thesis so i know worst comes to worst she will back me up and also? we are literally 5 days from the end of the year i'm scared but so is like every jewish person in the world right now so i am choosing not to give a shit about what my classmates think. wish me luck

in regards to the constant dismissal of his aroace identity, i hate it when alastor 'fans' say and use the excuse: "he's fictional, he won't get offended."

like, you're right, but it can and will offend us.

when you see yourself being represented on screen, of course you'd feel enthusiastic about it — representation allows individuals to see themselves reflected in the media they consume, validating their identities and experiences. but when so many people take that representation and decide to disregard and discard it, it is so fucking frustrating. we finally have another character to be part of the tiny amount of representation we have, but then people don't even care about how much it means to us? like yeah, alastor won't get offended because he's not real, but it frustrates and annoys us. do you realize that it's also technically invalidating the aroace community? that you're invalidating our feelings? imagine feeling like you're finally being seen because your orientation is finally being represented in media, and people just decide to blatantly ignore, discard, and invalidate it.

media has such a powerful influence on real life, representation being a prevalent factor of it. there are numerous posts that dictate how people went to watch a movie/show or read a book just because a character depicts their identity in it — obviously, being represented is an incredibly uplifting and validating experience.

which is why seeing an aroace character in a popular show is so meaningful to us because we live in a world where romance and sex are literally everywhere and prioritized above all else. (and it's pretty obvious that alastor's on the repulsed end of the spectrum, but even if he wasn't, at least make an effort to acknowledge his sexuality instead of continuing to portray him as allo; aroace folks can be in relationships but it's not going to be the same thing with allos' experiences.)

any and every representation matters, but why does that seem to stop at people under the aroace spectrum? like y'all can't even let us appreciate the scraps of representation we have. we barely have any, so are we really that dramatic for being upset at how people easily disregard and dismiss our identities that are being depicted on screen just like that? is it truly wrong of us to want to defend and maintain the little representation we have?

sorry, i'm still hung up on how bad the writing for sarevok was in bg3. it's not even just "he's so out of character!!" bad. that is just straight up not him. literally who is this man, what the hell is he talking about, and what has he done with the actual sarevok because nothing he says makes ANY sense like....

just as one example of how wild the contradictions/retcons are, this is how bg3 has him recount his resurrection in bg2 -
