"Well!" He happily said, "I believe our work here is done."
Naven clapped his hands together, gathering the attention of all the Bliss Ocean operatives in the empty room with him. They were near the back end of the convention hall, unused and unlikely to be interrupted by anyone.
"I don't think so!"
Sylvie stood near one of the support pillars in the room, stomping angrily towards their group. Naven's already closed eyes narrowed further.
Oh?
Round 2, it is.
Zora snorted, twirling the real ass goddamn sword she had stolen from Percy earlier that day. "Heh, what's a kid like you going to do?"
Sylvie stood up in such a way like a bird ruffling its feathers, "I'M NOT-" They stopped themself, taking a deep breath. After a moment, their eyes opened once more.
Naven hummed under his breath. "Looks like you have some newfound determination. I wonder, wherever from?" His footsteps clattered loudly for how calm they were as he stepped closer to Sylvie, stopping in front of him. "Are you really that determined to beat us?" He twirled around, landing behind their back and leaning down, "Or are you just throwing everything at the wall? Do you even have a plan? With what allies?"
Sylvie flinched away from his whispers, turning to look him in the eyes. But no matter how brave he acted, Naven could still see the tiny tremors in his stance.
"I already took them away," Naven said, "What else do you have to offer me? I can take it all. It only takes a few phone calls to get your degree and license revoked."
"You have nothing left to threaten me with," Naven stated, leaving no room for argument as he walked back to his group.
A small murmur came from behind him.
"What was that?" Naven asked sweetly, "I couldn't hear you."
"You're pathetic," Sylvie muttered, hands clenched at his sides, "You're so caught up in your own ideals, you can't adapt at all to how society is changing. You can't just make epithets go away. That's not how evolution works."
"For a child genius, you know little of how the real world operates," Naven sighed, "If an invasive species appears, it's our job as humanity to rid it. As we evolve to find ways to better ourselves, we also find ways to shed off whatever is keeping us down as a society." He held up the apple he always carried, crushing it in his palm and letting the juices drip down his hand and onto the floor.
"You know, it's people like you that really make me mad," Sylvie stared him down, something dark flashing in his pupils, "It's only been a fleeting thought until now, but seriously... All mundies should just disappear."
The room stopped dead in its tracks. Even the other Bliss Ocean members had stopped in their tracks.
Naven dropped the apple to the floor.
He held out his now open hand to Zora. Wordlessly, she placed the sword in it.
"Truly, you still have no idea how to interact with others," Naven effortlessly bounced the weapon in his hold. "Don't you realize?"
He raised the blade up.
"You have no power here."
It plunged into Sylvie's stomach.
Sylvie's breath hitched, instinctively stumbling back, but Naven chased after him, steady strides pushing it deeper into the wound.
"I really do have to commend you, though," Naven smiled, twisting his wrist and the sword inside Sylvie in turn. He didn't seem happy per se about the pained noises he was drawing out of the teen, but he didn't look upset or uncomfortable either. "Really, you're the first person to figure me out! That's impressive! Unfortunately, everyone will only know you were right when it's too late."
A hand suddenly grabbed Naven's wrist, fingers clawing into the cloth of his sleeve. Sylvie chuckled, then laughed, harder and harder until his body was shaking from the exertion.
He reflected Naven's smile back at him.
"Gotcha."
Sylvie's body angled ever so slightly towards the side. Naven followed the direction with his eyes, freezing in place.
Near the support pillar where Sylvie was standing earlier was a small camera nestled near its base, a slow, red blinking light signifying it was on.
"That's a live feed," Sylvie clarified with a self satisfied grin, "Every TV in this convention hall is broadcasting this. They didn't hear us. But they don't need to. All they need to know is that I've been accusing you of being part of Bliss Ocean and that you stabbed me after talking with well known Bliss Ocean operatives. I'm sure they can make their own conclusions from there."
Naven pulled back from Sylvie, sword sliding out as if unsteathing itself. Sylvie wavered in place, hand resting over his wound as if that would stop the bleeding.
Sylvie stood up, as straight as he could manage. Naven looked different. Gone was the composed persona he had kept all this time.
"Huh."
Sylvie's glasses glinted over.
"So you can feel fear."
Naven scowled, turning on his heel and stalking towards his team. He raised a single hand in the air, "Let's go."
Sylvie would've chased after them, but the sharp stinging pain of being attacked by a real weapon for once in his life had him collapsing to the floor.
His vision blurred, body running cold while blood gathered around him in a tiny pool.
...He was such a child.
These were his last moments. He should be happy that he managed to reveal Bliss Ocean to the world. Or mad that it ended like this.
Instead, he felt a deep sadness that gnawed down to his very bones. All he wanted in that moment was for someone to be there with him, comforting him, rubbing him on the head and telling him he did a good job.
But that would only occur in a dream.
Hah.
Fitting for someone like him.
