who's gonna tell dan and phil that houses in california come with screens on their windows to keep bugs out and if a window doesn't have a screen it's probably not going to open

sincerely - a californian who spent a whole month in london when I was 14 and was constantly puzzled by their lack of window screens and the fact that you're expected to open the windows because there's no ac and no ceiling fans and it’s hot inside

#there were so many bugs #also for some reason the flat didn't come with a fly swatter so we had to go and get one because of all the bugs that came in because of th #open windows with no screens on them #like the bugs there aren't as bad as they are here however but it was incredibly annoying to try and relax while there's random bugs flying #around #ash yaps #dan and phil #sorry about the rant I just have a lot of thoughts and feelings over the way that I experienced summer in london and how window screens and #ceiling fans could have solved a lot of my complaints from that summer

i have No ideawhy my parents just refuse to keep the back door closed. even knowing theres a neighbors cat that visits that isnt afraid of our dogs. who has & will walk into our house if given the chance

meanwhile our dogs will attack & kill anything that gets into our yard!!! this cat was perched on the trashcan once WHILE our dogs barked at him & he was unphased!!!!! in Summary this lil guy is so chill he will DIE if he gets in & the dogs catch him. even knowing this, its just too inconvenient to get back up to let the dogs in/out so they leave the door open -_-

#this is the best Possible reason to stop being lazy & just keep the door closed but for some reason they dont care #not even the swarms of flies we get every summer bc they just leave the door open is enough to sway them #we would save money not buying fly traps if we didnt let the flies in. all they do is get in & breed & it makes being downstairs miserable #i Despise the sound of bugs buzzing. its like a mix of fear & general Bad Sensory & it make me want to cry when they fly around my head #ive begged for YEARS to just keep the back door closed but its always “ohh but its nice out were letting fresh air in”#or “i dont wanna get up to let the dogs in/out ://” killing & maiming. we have Windows. our front door has a screen door. stop being lazy #torch chatter #me when i complain #vent

guhhh it's so hot in here

#ive been trying to sleel and like dozing on and off for 5 #hours but im fucking steaming. it is 30 degrees outside w the windows OPEN and im sweating like a hog #it's actually so treacherous #i can't open em anybfurther bc rascal likes ro climb the screens and i don't wanna make it easier for him to put weight on them #or encourage that or whatever. i do NOT need him falling to his death bc im a little warm yk #heating's controlled by the staff (we don't have indv thermostats) and half of my floor has been baking all semester #ughh #guhhhh i hate the heat sm i would much rather no heat at this point #it's a grass is always greener situation for sure but i can't remove any more clothing. at least w cold i can layer up #update i have retreated to the basement

So I really liked that this room has two windows when I moved in, both for plant reasons (....let's not discuss how many plants I own at this point, or how many more I'm going to accumulate before I move in December) and for air flow reasons (it's easier to get a cross breeze if there's two windows and a fan can blow cool air into the room and hot air has an exit point).

...uh, turns out that if you have a stupid number of plants in front of the windows, it is excessively difficult to actually open the windows. Also, if you have a dresser in front of one window because the dresser surface is great for setting plants on, it is also difficult to open/close that window. Fun times.

#personal #also the windows are stupid sticky to open/close #so coming at them from an angle is harder than it should be #switched where the window screen was on the dresser window so I could open the top instead #because surely it would be easier #good news: it is easier to open #bad news: I need to climb onto the dresser to close it again and even then it is a Struggle

Not in the mood to be doing stuff, but everyone wants me to do stuff.

I don't know how to word it to them that I need the laptop to make me function faster or at all.

I got a lot there that helps me on that laptop, and now I have to work around it, which is tiring and hard.

#I've been dying to talk about my nonhuman-ness here but it's hard to do that on a phone.#as I rely on a lot of spell checks and searching of words as I'm you know dyslexic and words are hard.#I miss having a bunch of windows open at once instead of having one that you got to flip through always #it's nicer to make ideas on as I can put them all in one place and test things out real quickly on a screen that I can see clearly #...okay now I'm just whining about it. i know its like. mildly dangerous to sleep with a window open but i still love sleeping with mine open and playing sad music and pretending like im sharing my sadness with the world at 1:30 in the morning. id like to think someone who's also some form of upset may one dah walk by and think wow, i'm not the only sad person in the world right now. and then they'll start quietly singing to the cardigans maybe. or heart attack man but i doubt that one

FUCKING HUGE moth appeared in my room after i've spent these past weeks at war with the moths, i feel like a boss has showed up after defeating too many of the minion forms

I still have 5 hours left in my shift 😭😭😭

#I just….#really wanna go home today #not having a good day. I started my period this morning and then I got to work and found out only me and one other opener were there but our #opening manager wasn’t here yet so she was late and we spent the next 20 minutes rushing to get everything set up before we opened #and then we immediately started getting customers and it’s just been busy and I’m tired and just don’t feel good bc of my period #and then so far I’ve had 2 of my least favorite customers come through the drive thru where I’m working #one is this dude who’s just fucking annoying another is the guy that asked for my number a few months ago who I haven’t seen since I turned #him down so I took his order and then made someone else deal with him at the window #and then it got busy with everyone ordering drinks like hot coffees which meant I had to walk from our drive thru out to the lobby bc my #coffees were out bc everyone wants coffee today but when I would do that I would still have to be taking orders #and then someone cleared a few specialty coffees off the barista screen without making them while the person was sitting in the drive thru #so I had to make those while doing other stuff too and people were asking me questions #and I was just getting very overstimulated and annoyed plus I’m hungry #and I just want to leave and go home and sleep but it’s my best friend’s birthday so she’s probably gonna want to do something later but I #just don’t feel up to it and I know she’s probably ready to hang out because she’s been off for 10 days with Covid so she’s well rested now #for her birthday but 😭😭😭 I just want to crash into my bed so hard and not wake up until noon tomorrow #also the coworker I work with every day and don’t like is here today unfortunately #and also all of the speakers we use to play music in the back are dead right now and I just want to play music #first world problems but I have so little patience today

I MISS living in a house with bug screens... For any future housing unless it is windy enough to blow anything small away, bug screens are a NECESSITY

#kept awake all night by winged demons #and mind you they can even have my blood!! I don't care!! I itch all over constantly anyway so what ever #but it's the buzzing into my ear and the landing on my face/nostrils/lips that I cannot stand #cause it keeps me up #so far two nights i've been here I have basically not slept cause of mosquitos #every time I am almost asleep they touch my face #and even the plugged into an outlet product didn't deter them #it's so sad I LOVE open windows I LOVE having constant airflow and I overheat at night so easily with closed windows #but I have No peace of mind if I open them here #any mosquitos I find now are On Sight. Die #all spiders get to live. please eat them please please youre everything #going to see if I can install some kind of screen for at least the bedroom door to the garden #I don't care too much about the other areas but I want to sleep in peace SO bad #I'll have to consult the landlord on what's possible and permitted tho. sighs #I am unbelievably tired.#bien rambles

Every time I see anything about Europeans not having screens on their windows I remember that one post “this is why you got the plague”. I cannot read anything about Europe and window screens without remembering that post, and honestly, I am still confused as to why people there don’t have screens

#emma posts #around here if you had no screens you’d be getting west Nile and shit just because you wanted some nighttime summer breeze #even without west Nile I don’t want more mosquitoe bites than necessary #plenty of other stuff would get in too. but you would be in mosquitoe hell #how do you guys live with biting stuff getting in your house? with flies getting in your kitchen?#it only happens here if someone leaves the door open too long or they have the lights on when they open the door at night #I mean. flies get in when it starts to get cold. but it would be way worse without window screens #and I’m pretty sure mosquitoes don’t know flies’ mysterious secrets for getting through small openings #at least most flies that get in houses don’t bite #if you leave the door open and a horse fly or deer fly gets in it’s shitty #those fuckers bite #and ticks! They usually don’t get right next to your house. but that depends on what’s around your house #and mosquitoe bites itch for DAYS #how are you guys not just getting diseases and unpleasant bites in your sleep?#and what happens if a bird accidentally flies into your living room?#if that ever happens here there’s a lot of panicking between both the bird and the humans #and I love bats but you really don’t want them getting in your house and that would just make it easier #I love them a lot but they are very good at carrying diseases. they are built different when it comes to immune systems in mammals #and if you leave your window open at night and don’t have some dog to scare them off you know raccoons would be all over your kitchen #and mice and rats too. maybe squirrels. rodents get in sometimes other ways but that’s just opening the door for them like welcome guests #if they aren’t pets then you probably don’t want them there especially for sanitary reasons #and bugs that like to eat your food!#I like animals but a lot of them aren’t great in your house #and when mice have gotten into my family’s house and realized that there were multiple cats they would just hide somewhere out of reach #until they died. even with live traps around they didn’t always move from their hiding spots out of fear #it has to be a terrible way to go. I feel bad for them #more would end up dying that way or from the cats eating them if they could just wander in through open windows. often when they do get #inside it’s because a crack formed somewhere in the window insulation #and your cat could just yet themselves off the second floor or higher. one time I had the screen off for something and my cat wandered onto #the roof and only came back in when he noticed I was panicking
