important context for the podcast today i think for phannies is that tommyinnit Is dan howell in 2019. he’s currently very disillusioned with the youtube space and is genuinely considering quitting, or at the very least pulling back heavily from the social media/youtube space, and just focusing on doing stand up comedy. so he went into this podcast wanting to talk YouTube shit, he genuinely dgaf about their relationship. the research he did wasn’t about like the details of their personal lives, more so their careers, bc tommy Loves getting advice from other YouTubers on how they do what they do, it’s been like his Thing since he started. so I know it wasn’t the podcast some phannies expected, but tommy and jack didn’t really ever intend for it to be like an in depth interview of dan and phil, more so a conversation, OG YouTubers to newer YouTubers, on what it’s like to have a sustainable career in the space where you are happy, and i do think they succeeded with that!

Please remember that avatar and victim are two different things and while there are certainly overlaps in some instances mostly an avatar is a manifestation of a power that gains energy from feeding off of victims of the power that they belong to. I’m still obsessed with Ken Womack deciding a cartoon strip character was Paul on 9 May 1969.

Mainly because it seems like a misinterpretation of an image based on a misrepresentation of the situation?

Here’s what Womack wrote thanks to @muzaktomyears.

To summarise: Womack says the other three cornered Paul, insisting he appoint Klein. Paul started to lose him cool when the others accused him of creating needless roadblocks and wanting to appoint his relatives, Paul refused to sign, there’s a quote from Paul saying that was the night we broke The Beatles and that it was the liberty bell moment and… that’s it, end of chapter with some musing about Mal’s heartbreak and the pic of ‘Paul’ (i.e. Maisie) framed like this:

But… that seems a pretty lopsided view of how it went???

According to You Never Give Me Your Money, on 8 May the other three had signed with Klein without Paul’s knowledge (though George tried to tell him but he’d changed his phone number). The contract appointed ABKCO ‘exclusive business manager’ to Apple Corps Ltd ‘on behalf of The Beatles and The Beatles Group of Companies’. They knew at this point that Paul might not sign and it still needed to be ratified by the Apple board of directors (I.e. The Beatles).

On 9 May they gathered to do LIB overdubs and the other three tried to strong arm Paul into signing with Klein, bullying him and growing furious with him:

(These are selective quotes so this post doesn’t get too long - more context here which is also the source for the below paragraph. Also the quotes are all Paul’s POV - I’d like to find what the others have said about this day).

John then called Klein, who was on his way to the airport, and Klein came back, lied to Paul about needing approval from the board of ABKCO to try and pressure him into signing and, according to Glyn Johns “… all that equipment was not enough to prevent me hearing Paul McCartney defend himself from Allen Klein’s attempt at bullying him into submission. It was extremely unpleasant to witness”.

Paul continued to refuse but the other three carried on anyway. John and George signed the document ratifying their decision to appoint ABKCO exclusive business manager to Apple Corps Ltd. The unanimous agreement rule which The Beatles had always had was resoundingly broken (though they’d already broken it on 21 March 1969 when they appointed Klein against Paul’s wishes the first time).

The signing of this resolution is surely the Liberty Bell moment and Womack doesn’t mention it, nor the fact that they’d previous made unanimous decisions.

So turning back to the cartoon - I imagine Paul was furious (YNGMYM mentions his rage on the next page in the context of drumming for Steve Miller), but from the sources above it seems that there were four other people who’d be equally good candidates for someone going apeshit and screaming at the top of their lungs.

Also, I don’t even know if Mal was there for these bits of unpleasantness (he’s not mentioned in YNGMYM).

Womack’s source for the events of the day is Anthology p. 326. I went and looked it up. It’s all from Paul and Neil’s PoV and says the same as above - the closest thing is Paul says about anger is “there was a big argument and they all left, leaving me at the studio”. (Here free on the internet archive). The fact that it is all from Paul’s PoV suggests JGR haven’t spoken about this day but I could be wrong on that.

That twitter link is Paul saying that was the day the liberty bell cracked.

i think Jemima and Victoria's respective roles in the show are fine as is but I do think there's something to having Jemima touch Griz instead of Victoria. The whole thing with Victoria reaching for Griz is that no one stops her, signaling that the whole tribe now accepts Grizabella, so there's no real need for it to be Victoria specifically.

But notably Victoria does specifically go through a coming-of-age arc in the show; I doubt anyone in the history of Cats has ever really thought this but it's a perfectly valid interpretation of that moment to say 'Victoria can reach for Griz without being stopped because she's now considered an adult'. 98 in particular addresses this problem before it can arise by having Vicky get pulled away from Griz by Jelly right before Memory starts, but I cant remember off of the top of my head if all productions do that.

Tho if it can be anyone, you could argue that it'd be best having one of the kittens who isn't ambiguously considered an adult now to reach for Griz. Jemima, Electra, Etcetera. Hell, have Pounce/Tumble do it as a turnaround from when he scratches her earlier in the show.

My Time with Rogues! The Podcast

My little journey with Rogues! the Podcast started back on July 27th. I got a DM from friend of mine talking about this podcast on Spotify (and that I would LOVE this version of The Riddler). I distinctly remember laying in a hammock falling asleep to Edward Nygma berate listeners over their stupid riddles and questions. (I later almost fell out of the hammock when I heard a southern Jonathan Crane). Rogues! was my little safe space for a long time. I kept it close to my chest. I was dealing with a lot of very emotional things that summer and Rogues! made me happy. It made me feel better. I could turn on an episode and I knew I would feel at least a bit better. November 11th is another very special day in my heart and journey with Rogues! (and the greater Codotverse) That was the day I uploaded my very first tiktok about the podcast and it was just supposed to be a silly little joke. Nothing was supposed to come of it. I even made a joke about how niche it was. I tagged the creator himself, Codot aka TheVoiceBoss, not expecting anything of it but it changed everything. I became a prominent tiktok creator who made Codotverse content. I started making friends through the podcast.

@sh4pes-4nd-colors and I became campaign managers for a season. We're managing a zine dedicated to Rogues! called Rogues! the Fanzine. We're making our own story driven podcast.

My best friend in the entire world @lunar-scapes and I got internships across the country together and we're going to be living together.

All of this sprouted from the love of a singular creative project from two people that truly do love what they do regardless of the popularity or monetary compensation.

Alls this to say. Thank you @voiceboss for everything you've done knowingly or unknowingly for me. Rogues! provides me a comfort not many pieces of media can. It means the absolute world to me. Rogues! reignited my love in DC comics (and comics in general) and I cannot thank you enough for everything you and Dee have done. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. I look forward to next year of fun and dastardly schemes.
