(disclaimer, this is coming from a heartstopper fan! i love heartstopper this is not hate!!)

i think at least part of the annoyance with heartstopper isn't just that isn't a light fluffy ya series, it's also that its another example of how the queer media that gets the most mainstream attention tends to be this kind of light fluffy ya stuff that focuses on two conventially attractive queer boys or men and it also tends to be written by people who aren't queer men on top of that, so not only can it feel very samey but it can feel like other queer people are relegated to side characters in the stories of cis gay men. and as someone who loves heartstopper i get that on some level.

btw by "written by people who aren't queer men" NOT saying that isn't not written by queer people. alice oseman is genderfluid and aroace, becky albertalli is bisexual, etc. and while i think the point is still valid there is a misogyny element in that a lot of the focus is put on things that are written by women or people they perceive as women while tumblr darlings like good omens and ofmd (written by presumably straight men) don't get the same treatment.

nah y'know what, that's fair, I can get how frustrating it can be for a lot of popular queer stories to feel samey, I've definitely gotten BL-fatigue in the past on platforms like WT and Tapas because many of them ARE the same and feel like they're just piggybacking off trends for the sake of clout (and this is a problem in the heterocis romance stories too, don't get me fucking started on how dark romance has turned into torture porn where vulnerable women are constantly being victimized by rich powerful men and we're just supposed to root for that ??), but it's one of those things where like, what might be seen as just more corny shit could very well be the revelation another person needs that they're gay / trans / etc. that the story helped them realize. there's just a point where i see these arguments against cheesy popular queer stories that teeter dangerously close to being queerphobic and, as you said, misogynist, simply because "it was written by someone who i perceive as a woman so that makes it BAD!"

and I didn't mention it in the original post because I didn't want to @ OP in any way but in the comment section they literally said "i dont think heartstopper itself is all that bad but it has pretty much aimed the direction of all mainstream gay comics towards wholesomeness instead of anything more interesting so i want to destroy heartstopper to destroy heartstopper clones" and that gives me massive ick because it implies their sole reasoning for including it was "chill and happy queer stories bad, if a character doesn't suffer enough then they're not interesting"?? why can't LGBTQ+ audiences have more 'vanilla' stories that aren't all sad and angsty all the time? are we not entitled to the same corny romcom vanilla shit that the heterocis are entitled to? why do LGBTQ+ characters - and by extension, people - have to suffer to qualify as being 'interesting'? You're already interesting, you're you! like i'm sorry, are we trying to scare people straight??? 😭 shit, that's even a plot point that's touched on in Heartstopper itself where Nick is questioning his sexuality and he starts googling shit and it's just ALL the terrifying news stories of queer kids being ostracized / bullied / murdered / etc. and as much as it's important to be aware of the ongoing issues so we can keep fighting for our rights, we ALSO need to find balance and remember to celebrate the stories that AREN'T that because we need something to be hopeful for, something we can find peace in. I don't think Heartstopper is some deeply profound piece of work, but it also doesn't seem like it's trying to be? It's a low stakes celebration of the LGBTQ+ experience that's very warm and comforting, especially for those who are the same ages as the main characters who are often being persuaded by the grown-ups around them that it's a death sentence to be gay / trans / etc.

and it's not like we HAVEN'T had popular pieces of queer representative media that explored things outside of cheesy BL, like are we forgetting about Nimona which explored both the gay and genderfluid experience in a very accessible and fun way while still being mature and not pandering to its audience over how society has made monsters out of queer people?

(and even then I'm sure there are folks who would argue "actually, here are the issues with Nimona" , and that's fine tbh, we can like media and appreciate what it brings to the table while also discussing what it lacks in, such as what we're doing now with Heartstopper! progress is a never-ending journey!!)

and also okay, not me trying to be argumentative in the slightest BUT I don't really get the argument that 'other queer people' are being sidelined for the main characters? unless there's something I'm missing here lol (I will apologize for that because it's admittedly been a while since I've re-read Heartstopper so I should probably go do that to refresh myself on it). like i say that in the sense that Heartstopper is clearly meant to be about two gay male teenagers. just like how Nimona is about a shapeshifter who is not a girl or a boy (they're Nimona!) and a gay man who are both trying to change the system that's other'd them for years for the better. that is the story Heartstopper is trying to tell and it achieves that. it also has a trans character plotline that I could see people arguing feels sidelined but I think there's a massive difference between 'sidelining' and just having a B plot ? my honest take with that is not every piece of representative media is going to be able to cover every single topic, it's just not doable for one piece of media to be a monolith for everything, the same as how one person can't be a monolith for an entire community of people. BUT that doesn't mean works like Heartstopper and Nimona can't inspire others to also lend their voices into the medium and create that representation that's needed. That's why we need ✨variety✨ and Heartstopper is part of that variety by offering a more vanilla cutesy story full of good vibes for people who want that sort of thing.

IDK, I think there's just a lot of nuance that's being missed in that poll, and in the difference between Heartstopper inspiring more people to write happy cozy BL stories vs. implying that it's had an actual negative influence on modern art and media in the same way that series like Homestuck and LO have to the point that people think it needs to be destroyed, like wtf LOL Like they're not even comparable IMO and a lot of the arguments I see people making about why it is just feel a little backwards, and those arguments obfuscate the real issue which is just "popular thing is popular and people like to piggyback off popular shit". That's a fact for basically any niche and genre, these trends come and go. Even if the whole cutesy BL trend passes one day (which it will) it'll be replaced by something else that people will also inevitably find samey and boring after a while. This is not a concept that's unique to LGBTQ+ media, it's universal.

Balance is important and I think finding that balance is as much a responsibility on the shoulders of the consumer as it is on the creator. And I don't think Heartstopper deserves to be put into the same camp as stories like LO which literally straightwashes its canonically queer characters and gives those queer identities to nothingburger characters who are easy to shoo out of the plot to make way for the heterocis ones (while still parading itself around like it's actually 'queer rep' which... it really isn't.) Like all three of the comics in that poll are vastly different, serving different audiences, with different goals and intentions. It's comparing apples to oranges to pineapples.

The worst Heartstopper has to offer is just a low stakes plot that might not appeal to everyone or feel 'samey' which yeah, valid, but in the grander sense of whether or not it's had a negative effect on queer media just for being... cheesy? And inspiring other people to write stories like it? I don't get the argument, it feels like it's severely missing the point of what we're fighting for here - to live happy little unbothered lives - but that's just me ╮(￣ω￣;)╭ I'm definitely not trying to be a dick about it in any way and I don't want anyone to think I'm not open to the opposing points here, I do agree with you on the oversaturation of samey BL stories, but it just rose some massive red flags to see Heartstopper next to frigging Homestuck and Lore Olympus LOL

i’m probably gonna get hate for this, but i think the argument that eddie having a mustache is a “clear sign that he is being confirmed queer” and saying that mustaches are “a clear symbol of queerness” in a show about firefighters is willfully ignorant, especially considering the fact that multiple non-queer characters on the show have had mustaches…

and when you take away the apparent “freddie mercury symbolism” (which i have yet to see from any of the photos we’ve gotten- he looks more like a corrupt cop than anything) then there is really nothing appealing about it. especially when the only other two ‘major’ characters who have had mustaches have been abusive and violent figures (not saying that this is the route they are taking eddie) but to look at the circumstances surrounding it in the context of previous characters with the same style of mustache, as well as the fact that mustaches aren’t automatically an inherent symbol of queerness as so many people for some reason choose to believe is (imo) a willfully foolish way to go into this season, as you are creating expectations around something that in every realm of possibility could be something reiterating his straightness and macho personality, just as much as it could be a symbol of his queerness.

im not saying that it won’t be a symbol of queerness, but to act like that is the only possible outcome of him having this mustache is just willfully setting yourself up for disappointment for choosing to put stock in something that has just as much chance of being an objectively awful stylistic choice (sorry not sorry to those who love it for some reason… it does not suit ryan/eddie at all and it gives me a massive ick every time i see it) especially when this show has not shown any sings of striving to infuse easter eggs like that into the narrative before, it seems rather naive to convince yourself that they are suddenly going to start doing that now.

there’s theorizing, and then there’s being willfully delusional (and i don’t mean in the lighthearted fandom sense). i know that we love to toss around the phrase “delulu” when we toss around theories of varying narrative possibility, but even then it is done with a certain level of acknowledgment that things could very well not go the direction they seem to be (as we have seen time and time and time again).

however, when you start tossing around theories and assumptions based on limited information as if it is 100% gospel truth that it means something, you are willingly setting yourself up to be disappointed by the narrative when they once again decide to back out in the 11th hour like they’ve done time and time again. it is baffling to me how often this show has gone the unconventional (to put it nicely) route over what makes sense narratively, just for everyone to then act like overnight tim has become this predictable writer who loves giving the fans what they want when in reality, he has given us mostly the exact opposite of what we have been begging for for years.

i see people saying “oh they would NEVER do ____, that wouldn’t make any sense! it’d be too crazy for them to risk that” only for the show to do exactly that, and the audience/fandom- instead of holding these writers accountable and being vocal about how we are actively being baited and dragged along- continue to ignorantly say every season“oh, well, it’s gonna happen THIS time…”

there’s a difference between optimism and bliny putting faith in something that has not earned it and unfortunately most of what i am seeing coming from the fandom right now is the latter and it makes me dread what the state of the fandom will he by the end of s8 if- in all likelihood- tim does what the show has always done and back out of committing to buddie canon at the last second

i don’t say any if this maliciously, or as a verbal attack on anyone… (hell even i am guilty of this to sole extent in certain situations) i say this to hopefully bring people down to earth for a moment, so that they can breathe and then look at things with s little more of a level head rather than setting themselves up for disappointment. i was the same in s7 and it wrecked my mental state and overall enjoyment around the show/fandom, and i don’t want to see that happen to other people when they- like i have- reach a point where enough is enough and they are too tired to deal with it anymore.

Omg, I’m not sticking to just one!! I kinda need to break this all down to the different series. Sorry Andor, you get enough love from everyone else that I'm gonna skip over you. And sorry Book of Boba Fett, I haven't invested enough energy to know you better yet to have strong opinions.

The Mandalorian.

Favourites: Yes I’m giving myself two answers here. Firstly, the Foundling. I love seeing how Bo-Katan goes about fitting in with the Children of the Watch, working out how to live their lifestyle, but then also still showing off her natural leadership qualities and her tenacity. Also, we get the shoulder touch. So fucking gay. Inject that straight (queerly) into my veins.

The second fave is The Jedi. I hadn’t watched any of the animation series before Mando S2, and when she came onto my screen, I sat up and paid attention. Ahsoka Tano, my blorbo beloved. I needed to know everything about her after watching that episode. Cue brainrot.

Least Favourite: Probably the Passenger. Felt like another filler episode. The typical “you only get to progress in the storyline if you fulfil this side quest” was growing old on me by this stage. Plus, giant spiders on an ice planet. Ick. No thanks. And Grogu eating the Frog Lady’s babies, UUUGGGGHHHH!!!!!

Ahsoka series.

Favourite: Time to Fly. It gave me tension-filled Sokabine. It gave me Jacen Syndulla. It gave me Ahsoka doing unhinged stuff like going outside her ship in space to fight off attackers. It gave me Sabine’s gay-panic face. It gave me purrgil. It gave me Huyang being an honest arsehole. It gave me Sabine losing a fight to a cup. I’m more than willing to overlook the completely stupid storyline writing for Hera’s subplot for everything else that episode did give me.

Least favourite: Far, Far Away. Not enough Ahsoka in this episode. And no Hera. So that instantly makes me sad. Also Sabine is written so poorly in this (no shade at Natasha for it, she did well for the poor hand she was dealt). Sabine’s smart, and yet all episode she’s just being all “where’s Ezra?” Smart Sabine wouldn't be standing at her prison door, banging on it and yelling about some deal that can't be fulfilled yet anyway because they aren't even on the fkn planet yet. Smart Sabine would be taking in her situation so much better. She'd be finding air vents to sneak into, so that even if she couldn't escape through them, she'd know the layout of the ship for whenever the New Republic might come up to fight against it. She’s be coming up with a plan to get Ezra and herself back home again once she’s let loose or makes a gaol break. She’d be stealing another TIE fighter with decent scanner equipment and faster travel, not being given a cowardly howler to search an entire planet that Ezra’s been hiding on for ten years on foot. They did her intelligence a massive disservice this episode. Also wasn’t a fan with how contemptuous they made Thrawn of Baylan and the Jedi in general. Chiss culture has a certain reverence for Force-wielders, and even though Kanan and Ezra were the enemies of Thrawn throughout Rebels, he always showed a level of respect towards them. Actually, Thrawn was pretty poorly written for the whole damn show. Bring Tim Zahn to the table to write the character properly, I beg you.

The Clone Wars

Favourite: The Phantom Apprentice. NGL, the last half of season seven of The Clone Wars was peak Star Wars. Fight me. But with this episode in particular, that fight sequence between Ahsoka and Maul, the dialogue leading up to it, the tension and shadow hanging over the entire episode? Perfection. It makes me believe Anakin’s fall so much more, in that Ahsoka’s absence from the events of The Revenge of the Sith speaks more to Anakin’s emotional isolation and manipulation to turn on the Jedi.

Least favourite: Can’t really say a particular episode. There were a number of filler ones that I just yawned through. There was one that focused on Anakin and Padme’s relationship, that was probably my least enjoyable. I get that their relationship was toxic/fucked up/doomed to fail, I don’t want to see more of it. Gives me the ick.

Rebels

Favourite: Twilight of the Apprentice. I get Maul back. Ahsoka is a badass. Kanan is a legend. I cry like a bitch at the end of it. But Ahsoka’s not actually dead either. Wins all round for me.

Also, Hera’s Heroes. Where we get a real introduction to Thrawn. I love his assessment of her. The respect, the admiration, that he has for his enemy. How he sees her as a worthy opponent.

“War, it's all you've ever know, isn't it? You were so young when you survived the Clone Wars, no wonder you're as equipped in spirit to fight as well as you do. War is in your blood. I studied the art of war, worked to perfect it, but you? You were forged by it.”

Gives me shivers. I really hope they do future Thrawn vs Hera justice in upcoming movies/shows, but I know I shouldn’t hold my breath…

Least favourite: Jedi Knight. It was an amazing episode. I don’t think I’ve watched any Star Wars (with perhaps the exception of Rogue One) that’s managed to pull such unexpected emotion out of me. And for that reason, I cannot bring myself to watch it again. I dunno. Maybe one day when I’m feeling emotionally robust. RIP Kanan. You deserved such a heroic death, but you also deserved to live. Fuck you, Governor Pryce.

8. Favourite/Least Favourite Concept

Favourite: That the Force is in everyone. (Yes, even you!) It frustrates me that fandom miss the point of there being a difference between Force-wielding and Force-sensitivity. Anyone can use the Force, but those who are selected to train as Jedi from a young age have a natural ability to wield it, because if you don’t have that natural ability, tapping into it and wielding it is hard. Even those with natural aptitude for the Force find it hard! Ezra Bridger? Force sensitive. Had the abilities from a young age, and just required mentorship/guidance on how to best connect with and use them. Sabine Wren? She has the Force sensitivity of a sandwich. She is not Force-sensitive. Which is why Kanan didn’t ‘pick up on Sabine’s Force sensitivity’, because she didn’t have any! She was just a stubborn woman who decided she wanted to try the seemingly impossible and found a master who was unhinged enough as her to try it too. I think a lot more people could use the lesson from her story, about persistence, patience and hard work paying off. Anywho, end rant there.

Least favourite. That ‘falling to the dark side’ is somehow freeing/a good thing/something to strive for. I hate how they made Osha Aniseya seem like she’d achieved some kind of ‘enlightenment’ from having just killed her father figure, abandoning her sister to have her memory wiped, and teaming up with some attractive stranger who had just murdered a bunch of her friends. It wasn’t enlightenment. It was manipulation. STFU.

19. Favourite/Least Favourite Outfit

Favourite: Live-action Ahsoka’s outfits. Yes, even that poncho that hides her gorgeous deltoids from view. It looks so damn cosy. I love that those outfits give those tiny, tantalising hints of skin whilst still being modest and practical. They’re minimalistic in a way a Fulcrum operative would be, but with some random personal touches that we don’t fully understand yet (Like those beads at her belt. Are they meant to be her old padawan braid? Or Sabine’s padawan braid? Are they just rhythm beads? It’s anyone’s guess at this stage!) But mostly, she just looks comfortable. And since owning both the Adidas wrestling shoes from her white outfit and the Tabi shoes from her dark one, I can attest that they are so damn comfortable whilst also feeling like I could run over any terrain or kick some bad guys’ butts. I’m totally here for it.

Also, Mother Aniseya’s outfit. There’s just so much damn detail to that garb. The fabric. The layers. I love it. Also looks like it would be a cosplayer’s nightmare.

Least favourite: This is probably going to get me cancelled, but I must speak my truth. Leia’s first outfit, the white robe. The "Help me, Obi-Wan Kenobi" one. It looks like a bedsheet. There. I said it. I don’t mind the whole idea of a plain white dress that covers her up, I just hate whatever fabric they used. How it hangs. Just screams worn-out bedsheet. any tips for someone who has zero gun

human contact? i took open school last year (april ‘23), to prepare for national university admission exam (massive deal in my country), open school is basically when you don’t have to physically go to school, you just have to give exams that too from your home. so main purpose of this was to study and go to private institute’s classes for prep for the exam(1.3M+ students appear, and only 39k seats). and i spent a big chunk of my parents money on this private institute, but now the situation is that i’m no longer interested in studying. i cut off all my friends. i don’t talk to people at the institute. my institute has been off for 3 months now (more like i didn’t attend for 2 months, i used to sit at the library after lying to my mom that i went to the institute). i have no human contact. i rot in my bed all day. i watch youtube and instagram just to have that human interaction atleast online. it’s not that all my friends left me, it’s that i myself cut them one by one off bcz everyone was giving me the ick. my mom doesn’t talk to me in a good way, it’s either anger or nagging. she uses me not having any person against me during fights (that are caused by me bcz i share my feelings with her about not having anyone to talk to and how her not talking to me in a good way affects me, i cry like 30 seconds into taking to her). my sister is to young to be hearing all this depressing stuff from me, she’s happy with her school and friends and i want her to be that way. my dad is posted somewhere else for work so he doesn’t live with us. he calls my mom 4+ times a day, talks goofily and happily with my sister, but he never talks to me. he asks my mom what am i doing and her answer is always that i am studying, even tho i’m not and literally sitting right infront of her at dining table. he never further asks about me. i recently bought myself a new phone, i only have four contacts— mom, sis, dad and aunt, and i got my dad’s number after he ringed my phone, which he only does when mom’s not picking his calls. now i don’t pick up his calls but back when i used to, his word used to be “where’s mom?” no hi or how are you to his daughter. i talk to no one. i don’t even go to my balcony that’s attached to my own room. haven’t seen sunlight in weeks. but nobody cares

Hi sweetheart. First it's so hard to know how I can give advice for this because it sounds like you're depressed. I'm not a doctor, though. I have no qualifications to tell you what's happening, but it truly sounds like you might be going through depression. And depression can immobilize you and you may find yourself alienating from all your friends and family, a form of self-sabatoge.

If you have the ability, consider therapy. It sounds like you live in India based on what you've said about open school and nat'l university exams (I might be wrong, if so, apologies) and I don't know what options you have or what cities you live near but see if there is a program or some therapists in your area.

Take a look at this and this and here are some free online therapy chat options (7 Cups always comes highly recommended) if you'd like to talk to someone online.

I'm so sorry that you're going through this and feeling this way. I hope you find some peace and begin to feel like yourself again. Derma Natufian Niacinamide Serum - Cue DJ Khaled's ANOTHER ONE lol!

Fairy Skin Premium Brightening Suncreen - a Tiktok budol! I have to try it for myself since this product was AFFORDABLE! Like I think Php 150 ($2.75) I was happy to use up this product because I could put alot of this without having to think to save this product since the price was cheap. I did notice a bit of pilling when blending to my skin but that wasn't a negative to me because I don't put on make up that much. I actually have another one saved just in case lol.

Issy and Co. Brow Refiner - This came with another product when I bought it, it was a set. I tried religiously to put it on my brows every night. Since my brows needed some help but unfortunately I did not see any changes. I gave up on the product. I think this is just Castor Oil (don't quote me on that) I have tried Castor Oil before but did not work on me. I did threw it out with a little bit of product left but then again.. useless.

Simple Moisturizing Facial Wash - Another one from Bestie! This product was okay. Did not really feel a massive difference on my skin, only my skin feels soft after washing but that's it. I think it's more for people with drier skin (I have oily skin). But again, it's okay did not make me break out tho.

                                                     Lip Oils Detail Costemics Plumping Jelly Lip Oil - I just wanna try out the product plus it's a local brand so meaning it was not a huge break on my bank. Did not really see the plumping effect but you can feel it. It's cooling and that feeling of plumping but gone after a few minutes of applying it. It's a thumbs down. Sorry.

Fenty Beauty Mini Universal Lip Luminizer in fu$$y - So I don't use it at night but since it's already included it the picture, Imma include it in this category. I have very pale lips (anemic probs) so did not really see the very sheer pigment of this gloss. Since it's a mini, there was very little product. Looks good on the lips tho, not lightweight (for me) but still comfortable. I like the shimmers. Use it on top of lipstick? Ugh.. PASS lol. I hate topping clear gloss or sheer glosses on top of lipstick. I know I know. But I just don't like getting the applicator getting another shade of liptstick, gives me the ick.

BLK Cosmetics Lip Oil - Another okay product. It's not giving long lasting. Lol. But it is giving spilling when the product is closed. Bruh. I was over it.

Strokes Silk Kiss Lip Oil in Passionate Peach - I'm actually amaze at myself for buying ONE product from this brand and put up with the shipping. It's OG price is Php 348 ($6.39) but they mostly go on sale. If you can't tell by that statement, it's a great product! I'm surprised honeslty. This one is moisturizing, long lasting and they have a variety of cute shades. I believe it is my 2nd lip oil from this brand it can be used on its own or on top of lipstick which btw lemme just clear up my earlier statement from before it's okay (for me) to use pigmented glosses on top of lipstick if it's the same shade or close. But clear glosses? NO. Oh and let's not forget the downside.. the spilling!!!! Like the one from BLK Cosmetics.

Ellana Mineral Cosmetics Calm Skin Cleansing Oil - I looove cleansing oils! I actually prefer them than balms. It's great! It's supposed to do what it claims to do. No ragrets. No negative review on this product.

The pot is almost overflowing from the leak in the ceiling when I come home. At least the rain has stopped for now. The smell of cigarettes wafts in from outside. Carrying the pot full of rain drops, I try to push the old white window up and dump the water out . 

“ ahhh” someone shouts from below me. Oh shit was someone out there? There's literally only a garbage 3 stories down who would be there. I hesitantly stick my head out the window and look down to see an older guy covered in  my rain water. Thankfully he doesn’t seem to be looking up. 

“ Now that's something you can’t watch on TV…” a familiar voice says. I turn to see Elijah from the elevator, sitting with his legs hanging over the fire escape. Baggy T- shirt casually hanging off his body, revealing the slightest bit of his collar bone. His cigarette placed effortlessly in his left hand. I’m still in my scrubs and hair slicked back in french braids. Fuck. 

“ What can I say…I try my best to give the people what they want…”

“ I don’t think Mr. Brooks wanted that…” he said. I wasn’t sure if he was joking or not. “But fuck that made my day, maybe he’ll think twice before giving me another lecture on cigarettes” I can see his eyes register my scrubs. “ Oh sorry its probably so annoying for you to watch  me ruin my lungs rn…” again I can’t tell if he is being a dick or not. 

“Nah I'm just in training, not the real deal yet”... I say pointing to my scrubs. “Mr. Brooks is right though we really shouldn’t” I say whilst stepping one foot back through my window

“Oi, phoebe right? Did you just say we? Stay for a smoke…” his voice was softer now. Straddling the window with one foot on the fire escape and one in my apartment, I hesitated. 

“Sorry no pressure, I’m out here every night, plenty of other smokes to be had.” he said looking straight ahead. His profile was so elegant, his smooth sun kissed skin barely holding in his jawline. Do not have a crush on the  neighbour Phoebe. You don’t even smoke. 

“ No I’d love to, just gonna grab a sweater.” what the fuck did I just say? 

“ Sweet,” he says as smoke leaves his mouth. Where’s my Casually sexy sweater? Sh*t Shi*tShit. Tearing open my top dresser; I see it on my chair of not dirty/ not clean clothes. Smack my cheeks to have some colour and climb back out. The air is still warm.The orange sky hung like a brick framed photo between the 4 walls of the courtyard. 

“Such a nice night.” I try to speak softly. The weather phoebe? That was your best opener. 

“ Yeah” He slightly nods his head as he exhales smoke. “ You want a light?” he said, turning to face me for the first time. His features are a little alarming this close. 

“Yeah thanks.” I say taking the cigarette from his hand. Our fingers briefly touching in the exchange. He holds out the lighter for me to grab. 

“ Eh you can like this one” I say, sticking the cigarette between my lips and leaning forward for him to light. 

“ As you wish” what is this overconfidence phoebe? I let out a massive cough. God that's disgusting. I think back to the tabloid of my mother smoking a cigarette in her 20s outside that Manhattan bar. I wonder if she felt as sexy as she looked. Or if it was really just disgusting for her like it was for me.

“ Oi cough it out, better out than in I always say” he says smiling at me. 

“BING BING BING”

“”Oh fuck thats my mom… her and my sister call every night” I say breaking the silence that felt like a life time. 

“ Oh so that's all the chatter I hear every night” he teases back with a playful smile. I feel my cheeks flush. 

“ Well I gotta go, but I hope to find you out here again.” I say so quietly I wonder if he can even hear me.

Luka keeping his knowledge about the identities (esp. Ladybug’s) will somehow blow up in a way for the writers to paint him in a bad light, probably ending with Marinette not trusting him. (As well as no hint of irony that Adrien did the same thing for completely selfish reasons in Chat Blanc).

Oh god, now I had an awful thought that this is where Adrien getting jealous of Luka, and Luka feels bad/”knows what’s best” so he either ditches Marinette/finds an excuse to leave or makes sure that Adrien gets his time with her.

Because it’s the love square so it’s “important” that Marinette spend time with Adrien.
