#ok but fr marking undergrad essays is such a rollercoaster#i gave two very high marks today and was genuinely impressed and then the next three i marked were practically incoherent#one just copy and pasted their intro instead of writing a conclusion. like it's verbatim the same paragraph#i dont mark down for minor grammar and syntax errors because there's a high rate of ESL students...#... but some of the papers from native english speakers have me more concerned about functional illiteracy than I've ever been#these are 19-20yos in a humanities field at a top university! even the highest scoring essay had basic basic grammar errors and vocab misuse#at least i could tell what the student was trying to say there but some of the others...#if your punctuation and spelling and syntax are all so bad that i literally cant tell what you're trying to say there is a serious problem#even setting aside how many errors like these there were there's the flip side of the issue: actually writing an essay#the last one i marked yesterday had no structure or thesis or secondary sources#everything between the intro and conclusion was the same claim phrased in different ways with some irrelevant non sequitur quotes thrown in#no analysis other than the words 'analysis of this shows' which is *gasp* not a substitute for analysis#OH AND OMG#one made a direct claim about a figure's political stance and attached a footnote. i went to see what the student's source was.#the footnote literally said something like 'i know i should have a source here but it's only context and i don't want to waste my word count#like what???? do you think claims about relevant context don't need evidence??? and the audacity to not give a citation...#... and claim it's because it would take too many words away from your main argument??#just providing the actual citation for the claim would have been 3-5 words max but the footnote about not having room was 30 words#kid do you think i can't tell that you dont have that citation? do you think anyone's buying that you didn't include it to save space?#it's the very first footnote and most of the others are full-length bibliography entries jammed into the footnotes (which we don't require)#so either you were 'worried about space' at the first footnote then changed your mind as you wasted 250 words on unnecessary formatting#or you were over the word limit and were like 'gotta cut something!' and the only footnote you 'simplified for space' was a short basic one#^assuming i believed you. which i dont. because why would you think that would fool anyone.#i still have half the essays left. im tired and so disappointed in how little we're told we should expect from them

I have been following your soc comic adaptation and it just so good!!! I love how you draw them!
I have just one question: Why did you not include Inej's opening musings about Kaz on the first page? (Kaz Brekker didn't need a reason etc) I actually really like how there is not text on the first two pages, it's really atmospheric and moody so this really is not a criticism, I don't want to insult you. I guess I was just wondering what the thought process behind that was?
Oh, I've been wanting to talk about this for a while! Buckle up, this is gonna be one of my long comic rants. (Also, no offense taken at all! Anyone's welcome to question my artistic choices and I'm always happy to take critique, even though that isn't your intention.)
So, the thing is I actually planned on including that first paragraph into the comic! Here's when I first shared the thumbnails on here. Just for the sake of this post, I'll insert them here too.
The boxes are meant to be where excerpts of that introduction would go. When I was creating the thumbnails, I was thinking about how iconic these lines were and how well they introduce the world and characters. I even finished the pages with the intention to include those lines. This is from my original csp file.
When I lettered it all out, I felt like something wasn't right...? Hard to explain. I wanted silence for the opening and the narration took that away. I then thought about the reader who'd go into this without reading the novel first, wondering if they'd be thinking, Who's this Kaz Brekker guy? Is it this character on the page? It's clearer in the book, but I didn't think it paired well with what I drew. I didn't want any confusion. It's also Inej's chapter, and while Kaz's parts take up most of it, I still wanted it to feel like her POV and her story. We can hold off officially meeting Kaz until page four.
But the main reason I took it out comes down to my philosophy when it comes to comic adaptations. I believe that an adaptation should use the original story in the best way for the secondary medium. A comic adaptation should play to the strength of comics, not the original source material.
Time and time again, I see a lot of comic adaptations of books try to use a book's strength instead of a comic's. When that happens, you get pages upon pages of narration boxes and exposition that could've easily been told in a single panel's image. If you want to read excerpts from the original novel, go do that! They're beautiful and well-crafted and you should be reading the original anyway! If you're making a comic adaptation, make a comic, not an illustrated version of the novel (that's a whole field of its own).
This whole thing really ties well into what I'm doing for Chapter 3. Kaz is such an internal character, his chapters have a lot more exposition that isn't setting description or character actions. I've had to do a lot more of my own writing for this chapter than the last just to turn that exposition into his own voice as an internal monologue. Sometimes, it's just a change from "he" to "I," but there are other times I've had to write new dialogue and find ways to naturally flow between thoughts. If I didn't do the work to adapt the expository text and instead just put in narration boxes of text from the book, there would be a greater disconnect between the reader and Kaz. Third-person limited works great in books and doesn't separate the readers from the story, but in comics, first-person internal dialogue keeps the readers inside the scene better.
If I were to redo Chapter 2, I think I would try to find a way to incorporate the information from the chapter intro better. I think by losing the intro I initially planned to include, I didn't establish certain ideas very well. Ketterdam and Kerch are established later on pages 4 and 5, but I don't think I ever go back and mention The Barrel. Also, the idea that Kaz is deliberate, even if his reputation says otherwise, is important too. I've made sure to fix this kind of issue in Chapter 3 and keep record of what kind of information I'm losing as I adapt it.
#comic rant over!#thanks for the ask I really love talking about this stuff#soc comic adaptation#asks#comics talk

yesterday was webcomics day. i am bea and i make "A Ghost Story" - part 4: the art
this part i feel like gets done semi-easy once the rest of the shit is dealt with. yesterday, my knuckles continued to swell and feel like rotten wood so i had to cut it short. this shit happens more frequently than i would prefer. today i need to run to the store and also pick myself up a lil treat (an eighth). for right now tho i have some cbd rich stuff that should help. maybe. while the index finger still hurts, only the middle knuckle is swollen anymore. let's see.
i started with panels 2 and 3 bc they seemed the least immediately labor intensive. ill be copy/pasting the line/flats for panel 3 to edit from there. t...there's going to be a lot of copy/paste this page. its not usually like that. but i usually only copy/paste the lines and flats. i will re-shade things so that they look different
unlike the sketch, the lineart has more "weight" to it. wait thats not how the pillow would deform. hold on.
ok that's better. did people even notice that before i changed it. probably not. but it matters to me!!!!! these little things add up and add weight to your world!!!! ive been trying new things with line as as of [looks at watch] last week. so it looks bad right now. like someones vague idea of what good lineart is supposed to look like. practice makes perfect tho....or breeds familiarity or something.
some parts of this look weird. dont worry. we will cover up that shit with speech bubbles. thank you comics for your ways of obfuscating bad art.
flats are easy. select everything that isnt your line art, invert the selection, and dump a base layer. then color that base layer with a mask
this page will, blessedly, not have any complex backgrounds. i already established the scene previously and can skate on doing my textured backgrounds. the background gradients in the direction the light in the room is being cast, usually.
first, a multiply layer at 50%. since she's facing away from the light source, she'll be mostly in shadow. then a white overlay layer at 50%; this is to make the first shadow layer pop and keep from getting too muddy. then a second multiply layer at 50% for the next layer of shadows.
added some sweat beads to make her look more haggard and some shine to her hair, since she's so close to the light. i've started bothering doing this bc it unfortunately looks good. finally i add one more multiply layer at 40% over her eyes to make her look more over this entire thing. and then added the red glow in another overlay layer (100%) where it would land if being cast from above.
completely servicable and theres room for like. a speech bubble later. usually i do text first, but in this case its so secondary to the actions being performed, i want to prioritize one over the other.
looking at it, im not going to be able to copy/paste this after all. she's going to settle in more and her body will rotate too much in the process. i can use this as a base to trace over, though, which will get me started.
but pain is occurring so im going to eat breakfast. what a bitch!

So I’m not really big on poetry and classics, and I love this religion and really want to continue learning and practicing it. But its just so hard for me to read these kinds of things to learn about the myths and the hymns and Ive been struggling with this a lot . Do you have any advice or recommendations? Thank you sm 😭
hi!!! sorry it took me some time to get back you, ive been incredibly busy lately. thank you for your question!! i do have some advice for you that helps me:
-don’t be afraid to use wikipedia or other similar resources. what i do is i’ll open the wikipedia page for whatever piece im reading and read the summary of it first so i have a general idea of what’s happening, then ill read the actual source text. this helps me understand the actual plot better so when I read the source, i don’t have to work so hard to figure out what’s happening and i can focus more on the details.
-look up study guides! it’ll help you know what to look for as you read and help break things down in more digestible ways. -try different translations. i love theoi.com but the versions of the texts they have available can be challenging to understand. i've heard very good things of emily wilson's translations of the epics in terms of readability. i have a pdf of apostolos n. athanassakis' translations of the orphic hymns and find them very readable as well. i haven't read his translation of the homeric hymns but he does have one! -youtube videos. do not be afraid of a youtube video. i suggest staying away from ones that are made more for entertainment's sake (channels like overly sarcastic productions and jake doubleyoo for instance) and instead veering towards ones that are more video essays/lectures (such as TEDed, religion for breakfast, pagan creators like fel the blithe, etc). no shade to the former content creators i mentioned, they make great videos with fantastic animations/art (and i enjoy watching them for their artwork and entertaining narration) but they're not something i would look to as a source for religious knowledge. i'm sure there's lots of good podcasts out there too, although i'm not a podcast listener. same kind of thing applies; try to listen to ones that are more for informative purposes, literary analysis, classical studies, instead of ones that are meant more for entertainment value. bonus points if they list their sources somewhere. -the literary tradition is very important, but secondary sources will also help fill out your knowledge on how to actually practice. books like labrys' household worship guide, burkert's greek religion, larson's understanding greek religion, and the vast amount of resources on hellenion.org, will also help you develop your practice (although there's plenty more than just those! those are just a good starting point). the myths are one piece of a puzzle; it's also important to consider how ancient greeks would have interpreted these myths and the cult around them, and that's not always evident in the myths themselves. sometimes there's veiled symbolism that needs explained. sometimes there's cult practices behind specific aspects of a myth. practices vary from region and time period, and the myths can also reflect this. different areas will have different regional myths and practices around the theoi. so it's not just reading the myths, it's also understanding the context around them, and a lot of times you have to go outside the primary texts to do that. i hope some of this advice helps you! kudos to you for putting in the effort to research. thank you again for your question. i wish you the absolute best of luck and may the gods be with you on your journey <3

title: a heap of broken images (2/3)
pairing: kim wexler x lalo salamanca
rating: M
summary:
“The last time Kim threw up was on the way from Red Cloud to Lincoln, at age sixteen."
"And I will show you something different from either Your shadow at morning striding behind you Or your shadow at evening rising to meet you." t.s.eliot - the waste land
.
The last time Kim threw up was on the way from Red Cloud to Lincoln, at age sixteen. Her mum blamed it on her reading a book while on a bumpy road, but it turned out she had gotten the scarlet fever, immediately missing the first two weeks in her new high-school. Not that it mattered much: they moved to Fremont two months later, the book she had read on the road (Crime and Punishment) - along with most of her clothes - abandoned at that shabby Lincoln apartment.
As she washes her face in the sink of the nearest bathroom, she doesn't remember whether she had even, had ever, finished that book. She remembers the heat in her cheeks and the sudden fever rash, spots all along her lanky body, the telltale sign of the illness, red like berries, red like blood.
Yes, Lalo Salamanca has those telltale sign of illness as well, red exclamation marks around him. He needn't even open his mouth, no, because he might be an illness himself, hollow and horrible - all hunger. He could see it in his grin, the delight when she noticed the blood stains on him. And even if her brain knows that secondary sources are to be taken with a pinch of salt, she still can easily imagine now what Pete said: Jorge De Guzmán sitting in the blood, with the calmest of faces, with the surest of hands. Those two, the ones who tried to kill him, never stood a chance.
There is still bile in her throat as she stands before the mirror to smooth the folds on her skirt, her shirt, her face. No matter. She has to go back, has to see this through, because she cannot bear to think of the future yet, the one which seems to turn muddier by the seconds.
Let's try to plan this by hour then, says her practical self. First MDC officials, then the persecution, if needed. And when Jimmy comes home, we will plan the rest together. Tackle each problem one by one.
Except.
When is Jimmy coming home, huh? says her other voice. Is he coming home around the time your father will? Haven't you learnt anything?
But for Kim, this hypothetical loss is so unbearable that she shooes it right away.
Okay then. Let's be practical, not ethical. How about giving Salamanca up? If you do it now, right today, he will rot in prison for the rest of his life and you and Jimmy can start anew.
Except they can't.
Because Jimmy has already agreed to help, has already helped: first Varga, then another man in the cartel, and finally Salamanca himself. Criminal activity, in the starkest sense. And you don't get witness protection if you help criminals. You get prison, or something that makes you feel like you're in one.
Under the current circumstances, giving up Lalo means giving up Jimmy. Jimmy and what comes with him. A life of -
Let's look at it from a different angle then, the voice continues, what if there are no bigger fish to fry than this Salamanca? Who knows how important he is? After all, they did try to murder him this morning.
But, she counter-argues. That's probably quite normal in the drug-business. If not a shiv, then poison or a bullet in the back.
Wondering would have to wait though. If her client lets anything slip in the future, she will be first to take a mental note of it and use it later, but right now, she has more pressing issues. No point in chasing alternatives while reality awaits. And ultimately she shouldn't get her hopes up, really: Salamanca doesn't look like a guy who lets anything "slip" either by fate or circumstance, unless he deliberately wanted someone to bite.
And just for the record, she tries to remind herself while shooting one last look at her reflection in the mirror, the actual ethical choice would really be giving Salamanca up.
.
"Miss Wexler" stutters Pete as he spots her in the shabby corridor, aiming for the door again. "I thought you have gone home."It's true that Kim left the room in such a hurry that the words she threw at Pete in passing couldn't have made too much sense.
"Just got some water" Kim answers levelly and catches the guilty look on the guard's face. "What?"
The strained voices from the end of the corridor answer her question.
The end of the corridor - where the chipped door stands, slightly ajar.
"So sor..." starts Pete, but Kim is already rushing past him, past the flyers, past the weathered door, her reluctance to return forgotten.
Inside, there is a scene.
Besides her client, there are three of them. And Kim heart sinks. Because in the bright-light of this cubicle room, she recognizes Gina Khalil, the assistant district attorney, almost instantly. She is the only one Kim knows, but doesn't bring any relief: the man he is talking to - a young man with glasses and a pasty complexion - seems like a lawyer. He must be the Center's representative. And worse still, just behind the accused there is another man, in a wrinkly suit, with graying hair. Most likely a cop. Ninety-eight percent.
Just between the trio sits Salamanca, still handcuffed, the very image of curiosity and calm. He is very still.
Everything is working against Jimmy and her, but just a second after entering the room, Kim sees immediately she has one great advantage against these three. Each of them want something different.
And they seemed to have just arrived at an impasse.
"...clear that we need to write him up, then move him to PC before we face another scandal like this" says the spectacled man with the pasty smile. "It's clear that he is in danger here. God, if this gets out, we're in it. Remember that Florentine fella, Tim? The amount of asses we had to kiss after that..."
"Do you hear yourself, Simon?" cuts in Khalil, before Tim, the detective could answer. "He clearly needs to be moved to Los Lunas, as soon as, not protective custody."
"Excuse me" says Kim, one leg in the room, the other still outside. Hardly any air left between the five of them.
Heads turn.
"Who are you?" asks Simon, the ninety-eight percent lawyer.
"Kim!" exclaims Khalil. "We didn't expect you."
"Well, maybe you should have" Kim says - meets Khalil's eyes with a dare. "Since I'm representing Mr. de Guzmán in Saul Goodman's absence."
Khalil's jaw drops. So does Simon's.
Behind them, the detective looks weary. Like he doesn't want to be here.
And Kim, who is otherwise very wise in reading people's expressions, cannot pinpoint what Lalo Salamanca is thinking at the moment. He has a careful kind of mask on, almost humble. Emphasis on almost.
She looks back to the corridor, where another guard steps near Pete, and starts to talk to him in a low voice.
Just perfect.
"Well" says Kim, and decides to step in for good, close the door. All in, all rise, or something akin to it. "If we are going to discuss this case out in the open, without any previous, written arrangements, we might as well sit."
She cuts her way to the table, sits next to her client who still smells metallic, who now casts his eyes downward, the very image of civility. He has long, dark lashes: they cast zig-zag shadows under his eyes.
It's a strange detail to notice here, in this moment.
"We are simply talking possibilities, Miss Wexler." Simon points out. "Important distinction."
"No, Simon" argues Khalil. "We are talking about possible new evidence, under our very eyes."
While Simon starts a mundane monologue about protocols in PR within the center, and just while the cop moves to sit just in front of them, papers in his hands, questions scribbled on a notebook, Kim slightly turns to Lalo, voice just audible.
"Did you say anything?"
Lalo shoots him a quick, and very ugly look, which she translates to "no".
"... care less about publicity" Khalil lashes back. "The Whalen-case is still in progress. And Mr. de Guzmán is facing, as the judge aptly summarized, severe charges."
"And he was warranted bail" points out Kim. "Because your witness was unreliable."
Gina Khalil's shrewd eyes narrow.
"Kim. Be reasonable. We are adults here. Do you think what happened last night..."
"This morning." Simon corrects her, uncaring both women shoot him a murderous look.
"What happened earlier" continues Khalil, voice icy. "cannot be a coincidence."
"Do you think Fred Whalen's family orchestrated an assassination as retaliation?" asks Kim in a bland voice. "Because that would be quite ridiculous, wouldn't you say?"
"Gina" says the cop suddenly, voice deep, soothing. "How about we all take a seat and explain ourselves a bit better. Simon, would you join us, too, please?"
After both the attorney and representative grudgingly sat down, the cop turns to Kim once again, palms open, face friendly.
"Ma'am, my name is Detective Tim Roberts. I'm sure you know Miss Khalil. And this is Simon Ellis, from the Center."
The detective sighs, gets a linen handkerchief from the pocket of his shirt, and dabs his face with it. Must be the lights, must be the humidity.
He leans forward as he puts back the linen in his pocket.
"The District Attorney's Bureau asked me this morning to inquire some more from your client, you know, to hear his side of the story. We're not sure what happened, and it would be a great help if we could, y'know, clear the air. Would do good for Mr. de Guzmán as well."
Oh, I'm sure it would, thinks Kim. Would get him a free pass straight to Los Lunas.
She must tread cautiously.
"We are ready to make a formal statement as of today" she says after a small pause. "A written, well-formed statement, without any external or unwanted pressure."
"Except a man was killed. Another injured." inserts Khalil, brows knitted together. "Do you see how that would overthrow regular bureaucratic procedures?"
Kim stands his ground.
"I do not, really. The men we are talking about tried to murder my client, so, Gina, do you see how putting the blame on him is unfair?"
"No one is blaming anyone." intervenes Roberts. "We are following a lead."
Kim turns to the fidgeting lawyer, changing strategy.
"What is the Detention Center's answer again?"
"Well, it's an offer, rather." says the young man, every inch self-important. "As you might know, one of the assailants survived, but has been unconscious. Until he wakes, we are prepared to offer Mr. de Guzmán his own cell in Wing C. It won't mean unnecessary inconveniences given the doctors predicted the assailant may wa-"
"Ellis!" the detective raises his voice. Seems the lawyer isn't fond of tact.
"That's okay" says Khalil, eyeing Roberts, then turning to them. "Let this be a warning. Either Mr. de Guzmán talks or the assailant will. So why not turn this to your advantage and prevent libel if you have nothing to hide?"
"Interesting point." Kim reaches for the two papers next to Lalo's hands, jaw tight. Strange, but she dares not look at him. "But Mr. de Guzmán hasn't been incarcerated yet and has full rights to express his own wishes and complaints, if necessary."
"What complaints?" blurts out Ellis.
"Let me see" says Kim, placing the papers in front of them. "First: despite being the one attacked, I do not think you provided my client with any kind of medical care. Second: he is still in the uniform he was attacked in - you didn't even let him wash his hands. And third, you have engaged with him without my or Mr. Goodman's presence. From where I'm standing, these all sound like violation of rights."
This takes Ellis by surprise. But not the detective, who looks at Jorge de Guzmán, blinking slowly.
"Are you sure you don't want to talk to us now?" he motions to the handcuffs. "Last chance, probably."
And before Kim can say but a word, Lalo speaks.
He addresses Ellis, not the detective.
"Could my family visit me in Wing C?"
Kim tries to order her face in a way that doesn't scream of complete shock.
The other party doesn't bother with trying.
"Wha... I mean... I'm sure that could be arranged." stutters Ellis, pasty face white under the strain of the last fifteen minutes.
"My children too?" asks Lalo, tilting his head.
"Sure."
"And her?" he asks, gesturing to Kim.
"Naturally."
"Good" nods Lalo, and leans back, seemingly done with the conversation.
"Are we done?" asks Kim, echoing thought.
"Miss Wexler" starts Ellis with a special kind of condescension. "About the complaints..."
"We can discuss it at the forecoming meeting, I hope." she hands him both sheets, fleetingly checking if Lalo has filled them, which he did, probably when she was busy vomiting up bile in the bathroom. "Here you are. One of them has become redundant in light of my client accepting his new cell."
She stands up exactly when Lalo decides to stand up.
It's strange how big he is, not just in the physical sense necessarily, but his allure. A new tenseness enters the room, Kim can see Roberts' eyes widening, almost an instinct, and Khalil lean back, suspicion turning to concern. Stupidest still is Ellis who is strangely unaware of this twist in the atmosphere.
"Sure" he says, grudgingly, still seated. He checks the first paper, the request for an out-of-court hearing. "I will send an officer to move Mr. de Guzmán to his new cell."
Deep in thought, it only occurs to Kim when they are already packed and ready that she didn't finish talking with Lalo.
"Actually, can I have a word with him alone before you take him? Preferably somewhere with coffee?"
Elliot, who stands closest to that shabby, weathered door shouts out to Pete to lead them to the small patio.
"Ten minutes" he says airily, before hurrying out.
Detective Roberts doesn't spare them a second glance or a goodbye.
Unlike Gina Khalil.
"I'm going to call Ericsen tomorrow" her voice is stern, as if Kim was a schoolgirl caught sneaking out. "All of this is very unlike you, Kim."
And while her voice is hard, her eyes have pity in them.
.
"That was a pretty load of bullshit you pulled" says Kim unceremoniously, sitting down, careful to show her back to Pete, who is on the other side of the glass doors surrounding the small garden. The sun, like a disappointed father, glared down on them with full force, shade nowhere. Kim has spotted a huge green lizard sunbathing on the sandstone mural just in front of the tired bench they occupy.
Could be worse.
At least, the first round is over, and there is air outside, with the sweet-smelling wind occassionally tugging on Kim's slightly wrinkled, sweaty shirt.
She has brought coffee, which Lalo declined with a wave of his hand. He would never say, but Kim sees that he enjoys the sunlight, the five minute freedom the small patio gives, however artificial. Tilts his head back, drinks it in, eyes closed legs stretched. His hands are still cuffed, the skin reddened and dry under the metal. Under this natural light, the red of the blood looks positively brown, as if Kim has poured down half a liter of coffee on him. Or more.
"Ver la paja en el ojo ajeno, eh?" Lalo squints his eyes, amused. "Letter of complaint and the like. Tienes algunas pelotas..."
"You wanted results" retorts Kim calmly. "Here they are. First problem solved, second is incoming."
"You really thought of everything, huh." he stretches his arms, the tattoo dancing in the movement.
"I like to be prepared" says Kim, searching her bag for the de Guzmán file. "You got this story strong? How long will it hold?"
"It's not going to be a problem if Goodman arrives with the money."
"And if he..." Kim cannot finish the sentence, the thought, the scenario. Even now, life without Jimmy is like living without her shadow. She feels like a halfperson.
Focus.
In this moment, in this garden Lalo is peering down at him, with a leering sort of anticipation. Does he get off on pain, Kim wonders.
"Well, then you and I are going to have a problem." he says, voice kind, eyes cruel.
"Okay, let's say he turns up in a week. Would that still work?"
"Sure" laughs Lalo. "Ay, cualquier cosa por la reina!"
She sighs. She might have to invest in a Spanish dictionary if they are to meet daily.
"Okay, they are going to try sweating you today. What is Jorge de Guzmán doing in Albuquerque?"
"Raising children with his lovely wife."
"Do you really have a family?"
Lalo makes a sound between a whistle and a sigh.
"Doesn't everyone?" he raises his brows. "Don't you?"
"You know what I mean."
"Goodman got me a real nice gringo family. That's what your lot likes, no?"
"What, children, too?" Kim wonders who Jimmy paid and for how long. God.
"Yes!" Lalo stretches the final 's', stringlike. "Family means a lot to me. Do you have children, Mrs. Goodman?"
"No." Kim wonders when did their harmless conversation turn dangerously personal. There is a boundary to set. "But my life won't interest the lawyers."
"Mah, but we are talking, no? Where's the fun in just formalities?" he puts his cuffed on his chest. Heart on sleeves. Most of his nails are bloody.
However focused she tries to be, a sickening suspicion suddenly arises in Kim's mind: Lalo Salamanca looks like he copied most of his movements from pictures, or old movies. He even exaggerates a bit, like in those black and whites, to make it more dramatic. Make it more human.
She supresses a shudder.
"We don't have too much time. What about the debt story?"
Lalo mock-pouts, leans closer. This time, he smells of the sun, and something tart. It's far better than blood.
"Let's say.... that my father used to work on a farm where they worked him hard, for little money. He asked the owner, who was... let's say a Chilean, he asked him one day for a great sum, for us, for his family. But he put interest on the loan over the years... y mi padre no pudo soportarlo, my dad couldn't take it. He died, so it was my task to pay the debt. And I did" something black glimmers in his eyes. "But that owner...well he never lets go."
"They will want to know the name of the Chilean."
"It's an old story" shrugs Lalo. "I'll say I have some mental problems."
Well, that's apparent.
"Where was de Guzmán born?"
"Juárez, 1962."
"You couldn't forge a fake American ID?" asks Kim sarcastically.
Lalo's face freezes at that, but only for a second.
"Why, you know these parts better?" he asks, all low.
"No, I wasn't born in New Mexico." it slips out easily, although there is a siren going off in her head. Trouble.
Behind them, the door opens.
A slice of Pete's face appears, a warning.
"Two minutes."
Kim waits until the door closes again.
"Okay, so when did you get married to your lovely wife?"
"I dunno, three years ago."
They are sitting very close now: Lalo's elbow touches hers. Under the brown blood, he has freckles and birthmarks, a constellation on the skin.
"What's her name?" asks Kim.
Lalo shrugs.
"Will give her one while I'm eating my lunch." he cooes. "Come on, I need your number."
According to protocol, he isn't allowed to carry any paper with him inside the cell, so Kim writes her number on his outstretched palm, skin dry and warm. She thinks of the desert, and Jimmy, wandering with seven million bucks that will save Lalo, but damn him at the same time. And it will damn Jimmy too. Maybe that's why he is taking his time.
The blood on Lalo's palms has dried a long time ago.
When Kim presses the pen down, specks of residue fall on the bench, fall on her skirt.

My idea for a potential DEATH BATTLE! #10
2024 jun 22, 25
PREVIOUS POST
Steve vs. Emmet Brickowski
MASTER LIST
Tenya Iida vs. A-Train (My Hero Academia vs. The Boys)
Battle of the superhuman society speedsters!
THUMBNAIL
FIGHTER 1: Tenya Iida, the next Turbo Hero Ingenium.
FIGHTER 2: A-Train, the Seven’s speedy Supe.
Wiz: Time waits for no man, and society maintains a perpetual state of rush hour. There’s always someone to save, something to do.
*insert clips of Sonic X’s “Gotta Go Fast” and its cop chase scene from Episode 1, Barry Allen and Wally West, Formula 1 Racing or NASCAR, Pixar’s Lightning McQueen, and Dreamworks’ Turbo*
Boomstick: These two superheroes are always living life in the fast lane, but whose drive will let them survive this Death Race? He's Wiz and I'm Boomstick.
Wiz: And it's our job to analyze their weapons, armor, and skills to find out who would win... a Death Battle.
PREFACE (What to know):
I’ll be looking primarily at the Amazon show rather than the comics and using the Garth Ennis comics as secondary sources. For Iida, I’ll be focusing more on the manga. Also, as much as I want to focus on character interaction, because holy cow, the potential for it is palpable with these two, I don’t know how much of it I can fit. You’ll see why soon.
WHY:
Connections (What do they have in common):
1. Both are speedsters in superhuman societies with blue and gray coloring, and use eyewear (Iida’s glasses, A-Train’s goggles). Their naming is also themed after engines, Iida’s hero epithet the Turbo Hero Ingenium and A-Train is named after a train.
2. Both form/formed part of respected and/or renowned superhero associations (UA High School for Iida, Vought Corporation and The Seven for A-Train).
3. Both have older brothers who helped improve their speedster skills that introduced them to self-harming methods for improving their speeds (Iida rips out the mufflers in his quads and A-Train overuses Compound V and increases the risk of cardiac arrest severely) that also end up crippled and unable to walk again, provoking both to attempt revenge kills that nearly costed them their lives.
4. Said revenge drove them to their lowest points and marked turning points in who they were not just as heroes, but as people. Iida began to be more protective of his friends, culminating in him and the rest of Class 1-A saving Deku from himself. Iida even told Deku that the essence of heroism is meddling when you don’t need to, which was what Deku said when saving Iida from Stain. A-Train killed Blue Hawk in a time when he was beginning to feel genuine remorse for his murders and collateral damage. He went to Hughie and genuinely apologized for killing Robin, and he feels that life sucks because Nate hates him now.
5. Both take up the role of a previous speedster hero. Iida takes up the role of the aforementioned Tensei Iida who was the previous Ingenium, and A-Train fills the spot in The Seven left by Mister Marathon.
Personal reasons (Why I want this battle/like this MU):
My Hero Academia vs. The Boys. UA High School vs. Vought Corporation. Student of Heroics vs “Hero”. Quirk vs. Compound V. Speed vs. Speed. In general, I love the idea of MHA vs. The Boys and how they portray the idea of the superhuman society and the incredible crossover potential. Imagine a story that takes place in a world where both Vought and UA exist. Are The Seven heroes of world renown like All Might? How would the world of Quirks react to the idea of a chemical that can give individual superpowers? How would Deku, our initially quirkless protagonist, react knowing that maybe could have avoided so much childhood trauma and other very disgusting things if he had that chemical? Would Endeavor have abused it when attempting to becoming #1 or when training Dabi and Shoto? Would All For One have tried to gain a monopoly on the substance or go against it? Would he order Dr. Garaki to replicate it? What about Hero Killer Stain’s reaction to Compound V and the super commercialized Supes brought to us by Vought? Would he just go on a bloody crusade or join The Boys? Would Billy Butcher accept Stain or just think of him as a lunatic? What about Overhaul’s reaction to a compound that does the opposite of his quirk killer bullets? So much stuff to write fanfiction about.
What I like about this matchup specifically is how contrasting the two are as people:
Iida is upstanding and upright. He wants to look after his friends after his attempt at revenge and live up to his family’s legacy of generational heroism. A-Train wasn’t born with his powers, rather he takes what is essentially a needle drug to give him powers, and wants to be the fastest. To quote The Boys Fandom, “He'll do whatever it takes to remain in The Seven, because he knows it's only a matter of time until a younger, faster challenger takes his place — and that's a problem even the fastest man in the world can't outrun.” Will Iida be that new and young challenger despite not being a candidate for The Seven? Would A-Train get Shockwave flashbacks? Would Iida try to be like Deku and attempt to understand what led A-Train to the point he currently is? Would he be empathetic to wanting to exact revenge against someone who crippled a dear older brother? I think Iida would be empathetic, but disappointed that A-Train chose to turn his life around only because of the consequences that affected him. A-Train is a cautionary tale to Iida and should remind him of Stain’s values, and Iida could be A-Train’s saving light. A-Train may not be a total monster, but he is still more monster than human.
THE FIGHT:
Art and animation:
MHA has, as of me writing this, appeared three times in DB! and only one was animated in 3D, and when DB! did their Seven Battle Royale, all characters that participated, including A-Train, were in 2D pixels. It’s most likely a 2D fight. Maybe we can get some well-placed hand-drawn bits and pieces like Mob vs. Tatsumaki to emphasize some of the cooler moments.
Possible setup:
At a hero convention held in Dagobah National Stadium done as a collaboration between UA High School and Vought International. We see Deku fanboying over the superheroes present and Hawks talking to some Supes and Vought executives. The stadium is full of cheering fans, looking onto a racing circuit. There are also lots of cameras streaming the event onto the world wide web.
From all around the stadium we hear, “Ladies and gentlemen, thank you for coming to the UA Vought Convention! Our first event is the Charity Race! Get ready for the supersonic action between our speed icons, UA’s Ingenium and The Seven’s A-Train!”
We cut to our heroes at the starting line, stretching and warming up. Once done, Ingenium outstretched his right hand, “May the better speedster win!”
“Oh, I plan to. You’ll be eating my dust soon.” A-Train doesn’t even turn to face Iida and leaves him hanging. As A-Train gets into running position, Ingenium is taken aback by his fellow hero’s rudeness. However, there is a race that is about to go underway, so Ingenium puts on his helmet and gets into running position as well.
A-Trian isn’t worried, this kid isn’t Shockwave. He had made sure to take a little extra Compound V just in case, though. He’ll win this one for Nate.
“Gentlemen! Start your engines!” A man a safe distance from the two is wearing a lot of safety gear and padding. He holds up a gun, and Iida’s engines are revving.
There is a gunshot and both are off at sonic speeds. Unfortunately, in this hero society, there were a lot of rabid fans that were dying to get up close to see their idols in action. Let’s just say that one of those fans was about to have their wish granted. A spectator had fallen onto the race track, right in front of the racers. Ingenium notices and slows down.
“Look out!”, but A-Train just splatters the person into pieces like he did Robin and continues running. Ingenium, now angry, goes after his fellow speedster.
“Stop! You have just killed a civilian!”
“Shut up! I will win! I can’t stop for anything! I’m the fastest man in the world!” Maybe taking that little extra V juice was a bad idea.
Iida catches up and attempts a kick. A-Train notices and meets Ingenium’s kick with a punch of his own. He’s really hoping Hughie wasn’t watching.
FIGHT! :
1. The bloody murder had caused shrieks and panicking among the fans. The announcer was doing his damndest to calm everyone down. “Everyone, please do not panic! Exit the stadium in orderly fashion!” Ingenium and A-Train’s hits meet and they keep running, but Ingenium attempts another kick, resulting in A-Train grabbing his leg and throwing him into a wall and grants A-Train the lead in the now futile charity race. As A-Train completes a lap, Ingenium times his next attack, and successfully tackles A-Train and attempts to apprehend him, but A-Train escapes the stadium and Ingenium follows.
2. The fight has now broken onto the streets outside. A-Train is causing some more deaths, and Ingenium is staying behind to make sure that the collateral is reduced. Ingenium tackles A-Train once again, but they stumble. They land on a river and then continue their chase running on the river.
3. They get off the river and into traffic, sending pieces of trash and paper flying. We get a perspective of A-Train’s point of view from his season 1 fight against Starlight (when everything looked to be moving in slow motion), running at Ingenium and decking him squarely in the helmet, cracking it a lot. This sends Ingenium crashing into a building. People are fleeing and screaming out of fear. Before A-Train can get run and another hit in, Ingenium’s engines start to flare up, and A-Train is suddenly hit in the gut. Ingenium had used Engine Boost, and having punched A-Train hard, attempts to subdue him while he has the advantage.
4. A-Train does not give Ingenium the chance, pushing back and kneeing Ingenium in the gut. A-Train and Ingenium then run onto a subway track. As they continue trying to punch and kick the other, they dodge oncoming trains as well. Unfortunately for Ingenium, this gives A-Train the chance to grab him again by the leg, and A-Train attempts to kill Ingenium like he did Blue Hawk, and wears down Ingenium’s armor. Unfortunately for A-Train, however, Ingenium is neither Shockwave or Blue Hawk. Ingenium activates Recipro Burst, and his engines burn up A-Train’s hand. Ingenium gets up and produce a strong collision between that sends them flying out of the subway tunnel and back onto the streets.
5. Ingenium attempts to quickly subdue A-Train, but he can’t. Recipro Turbo has now worn off, and A-Train gets Ingenium on his knees, and repeatedly slams Ingenium’s head against the pavement. “This wasn’t supposed to happen! I was supposed to win, to prove to everyone that I was above that f*cking racist Blue Hawk! I was supposed to get my brother back on my side with this race! I barely patched things up with But YOU came along and F*CKED IT ALL UP FOR ME!” Iida is having a hard time listening to A-Train since his head is about to suffer a concussion, but… Is he feeling… Sympathy? He wants to earn his brother’s love again? “Now you’re going to suffer like your slow-ass brother before you…!”
6. No one insults Tensei Iida, because no one knows Tensei Iida like Tenya Iida. Now furious, Ingenium elbows A-Train and punches him hard and both struggle to stand. Ingenium finds some ice and applies it to his legs, and he feels a lot of relief. “My brother was a hero! He risked his own life to protect the lives of others! He… He paid for it so hard… But you! You blame me for the consequences of your actions!” A-Train is now royally ticked off, and injects more Compound V into his legs, and Ingenium tries to intervene. “You take drugs?! You dare think of yourself as a hero?!” It wasn’t Trigger, Iida thought, but that’s for later. A-Train had jacked up his speed more, and punches Ingenium again before he could get closer. They start to run again. Iida quickly gathers some ice to cool himself off, and with Recipro Extend, Iida is off. However, he is still too slow, and A-Train starts to really lay it into him and he can’t see him coming. “Give up, kid!” Compound V has now made A-Train even faster than he was before, and Ingenium is getting hit from all angles, but Ingenium activates Recipro Turbo and successfully catches A-Train. They try to run, and while they can get good hits in, A-Train is even able to fully break Ingenium’s helmet, both are effectively near their limits, but they can’t stop.
7. A-Train tried to strike Ingenium in the leg, but it was a grave mistake, as the hot engine severely hurts A-Train’s leg. It wasn’t completely for nothing, as A-Train even damaged one Ingenium’s mufflers. Both are sent tumbling to an empty main street with considerable distance from each other. Ingenium crashes into a train, severely denting its side and A-Train is sent into a train station.
8. Now, it’s all or nothing. “I will beat you. I… Will win… Because I AM THE FASTEST MAN IN THE WORLD!” A-Train gets up and gets ready. Across from him is Ingenium. “You may be fast… But I can’t give up! A hero never gives up! My brother didn’t, and my friends didn't give up! I will do what they all did…! I have to go BEYOND!” Both are ready to fight. A-Train tries to inject some more Compound V. F*ck, this he is going to pay. Iida starts to overtax his thrusters. He’s been storing some energy, and he’s ready to unleash it. A-Train runs so fast that the pavement starts to crack with every step, and Iida unleashes his Maximum Speed, and shouts “PLUS ULTRAAA!” Their speed is so great that the glass in all buildings nearby shatters, and the pavement is left dust.
9. Iida wins by A-Train succumbing to a heart attack. Ingenium is able to kick A-Train first and sends him back into the train station. A-Train had already abused Compound V, and with him overexerting himself, he feels his chest hurt and simply doesn’t get up. Iida crawls and limps his way. “I’m sorry… But these are the consequences of your actions.” We then see some ambulances arrive
10. A-Train wins by getting in a killing blow first. A-Train’s chest hurts, but victory is close at hand. As the two speedsters close in on each other, A-Train simply strikes first. He punches Iida into the ground so hard that his head bleeds. “Told you…” We see A-Train panting, and then he runs away as ambulances start to arrive.
11. KO!
RESULT:
Strengths and weaknesses:
Iida:
+ Is generally the more mentally put together and smarter of the two.
+ Has more martial skills than just running fast.
≥ At his fastest, Iida could likely move faster than Dark Shadow who could time lightning. This is a HUGE stretch, but Iida, at his fastest, could be faster than A-Train. Iida has only gone faster since then.
- Costume does not really serve as armor as Stain was able to cut through it.
- Iida is left a sitting duck after using Recipro Turbo and Recipro Burst.
A-Train:
+ Better perception. (supposedly)
+ Stronger as he could pull a train (ba dum tss) in Season 1 of The Boys.
+ Even if Iida was faster, A-Train has more consistent showings of his speed.
≥ Arguably more durable if he can withstand ramming himself into people so fast they turn into just blood on pavement.
- Overdosing on Compound V is fatal to himself, compared to Recipro Turbo which only momentarily incapacitates Iida (is this still possible with his heart transplant?)
- A precise strike could leave him incapacitated, like when he was hit in the back of the knee when he was trying to intimidate Hughie by kidnapping his dad.
Ending puns:
"A-Train simply couldn’t handle the s-train."
"Iida cer-train-ly met his match today."
MUSIC:
Name: Top Gear
The name makes reference to both characters being speedsters with an engine naming theme. Iida has mentioned that his speed works in gears like a car (Quirk Assessment test), and both have a max speed mode in Recipro Turbo and an overdose of Compound V which would be both of them shifting to their max gear.
Art: The cover shows a vial of Compound V rocketing towards the front via the Engine’s Recipro Turbo with Iida’s glasses and A-Trains goggles flying away. The speed is so much that the vial is cracking under strain. There are blur lines all around the speeding vial.
Sound:
I want to take inspiration from songs like Michael Jackson’s Speed Demon, Golden Earring’s Radar Love, or Deep Purple’s Highway Star to reflect A-Train’s need for speed, but to stay truer to the characters, I decided to look at songs that represent them.
The song starts off like the first 30 seconds of “QUIRK” DON-PACHI with its robotic sounding intro, like revving engines, ending with a “Ready? Set, GO!” like A-Train’s theme, Faster to kick off the race. The song maintains a fast-paced beat, sounding like Faster but with MHA’s rock/electronic instrumentation. Speed is the name of the game, and so it should be one of the core feelings of this song, like Way Past Flash.
As the fight ends and the killing blow is dealt, the song starts to become Iida’s theme to reflect somberness. The winner may have survived the deadly ordeal, but now they have another burden to bear.
FINAL THOUGHTS AND WORDS:
The creative juices for this one just FLOWED. I had a lot of fun making this one. Maybe it’s because it’s built on a potentially strong crossover, maybe it’s because I really wanted to put my ideas for character interaction onto text. Maybe because these characters have little in the way of abilities so it was easier to write for them.
Also, not going to lie, I genuinely questioned if A-Train really even had physical weaknesses. His heart transplant fixes the damages from his previous heart, but wouldn’t an overdose or abuse of Compound V still cause a heart attack? I can definitely see him trying to use more of it in order to remain the fastest and especially in the face of someone like Iida, young and fast. I don’t completely understand, and it’s very likely I'm doing something wrong, so if you do understand, let me know. :)
IDEAS THAT I HAD:
1. Starts at a hero convention between UA and Vought because the idea makes a lot of sense for a crossover or a charity race for black communities that got sponsored by Vought because A-Train wants to fix his image.
2. Shockwave flashbacks. Kid is also naive, a pushover.
3. Fight starts with A-Train killing someone like he did Robin, Iida gets disgusted and tries to stop A-Train.
4. Enter a subway tunnel or bullet train track and pass by a train to reference their naming schemes.
5. A-Train insults Tensei, Iida takes offense, and the fight is taken up a notch.
6. A-Train spills on his situation with Nate and his murder of Blue Hawk, Iida is empathetic but must stop A-Train.
7. Iida reacting to A-Train taking Compound V.
8. Recipro Turbo vs. Mudman reference, Blue Hawk murder reference
9. Damaged legs.
10. Plus Ultra Recipro Turbo Vs. Compound V overdose
11. Fights with punches, kicks, and maybe chops.
12. A-Train kills Iida the only way he should: like he killed Robin. However, he feels remorse because now, he killed a kid and his image is absolutely going to tank.
13. Iida wins by Recipro Burst kick, and deeply apologizes for taking A-Train’s life before he could fully redeem himself. A-Train never got to apologize to his brother.
14. Running on water
15. Turn Dagobah stadium into a thunderdrome, or have a race around the city like in Cars 2.
16. Something involving a spy for future MHA vs. The Boys episodes.
THANK YOU AND I HOPE YOU ENJOYED THIS!
NEXT TIME…!
Groudon is facing off against its mortal enemy, Kyogre. There may be rain, but the sun is shining.
Groudon starts to charge a Solar Beam, but then is pulled under and doesn’t fire the Solar Beam, causing the clouds to obscure the sun. Kyogre is also struggling to control the waves as they are going against its command, until a fist made of water deals an uppercut to Kyogre’s face, staggering Kyogre a bit. The fist of water lands meters in front of the Sea Basin Pokémon, and it morphs into Chaos.
It is a time of crisis, and so Chaos has re-emerged.
There is too much water.
Chaos vs. Kyogre (Sonic the Hedgehog vs. Pokémon)
--------------------------------------------------
I like this idea! To be honest, I remember Brandon Yates making a track for this battle, Compound Engine, and it was a pretty solid track from him. Personally, I HATE the Boys, though I can see the hype around it AND I can also recognize the power they have. A-Train, as I see him, is supposed to garner sympathy as this profession athlete figure who could easily be replaced, but him giving half-felt speeches as an "apology" just writes him off as just another athlete using his fame to get away with ACTUAL murder. Very O.J. of him.
That said, as much as I would love for Iida to inadvertently kill A-Train from his own stupidity by taking Compound V, I think the alternate take in which A-Train murders Iida fits in better with the powerscaling, since Iida isn't really that powerful compared to other speedsters, especially when you include his engine limits.
As for the next fight, might I suggest you look into Brandon Yates other work, Primal Chaos?

oh!!!! happy 100k words wfrau!!!!!!! she's getting bigger (<- like you would speak of a puppy). how long is it supposed to be & how far along are you? and also... would you like to share a snippet you like (from any chapter ofc... no pressure if no it's completely understandable)? what do you enjoy the most about writing it? bc it seems like you're having fun & it's so nice to see someone enjoying a hobby so openly online... especially writing... there's this conception that writers don't actually enjoy writing (the whole 'forcing myself to write' bit) and i'm curious to hear your perspective on it!! also!!!!!! i hope moving will be easy & fun & the world will be kind to you with the change <3 i keep telling myself 2 read marx but i can't find any good translations to my native language and reading it in english is making my brain go grgrgrgrgr like an air conditioner on its last leg so alas it might have to wait... so true for liking iced drinks they're really the best!! i've heard someone say it's childish but i think they just live a very miserable hot life in the august heat drinking their hot coffee instead of putting some ice cubes in it :) it's funny you say that about fav line because it's definitely my fav fic of your writing & the ending of it is soooo beautiful i get back to it every time i need to feel something!!!!! that song line is beautiful too omg... and well the weather is hell everywhere at least the world is all suffering together :( i hope the atmosphere isn't suffering too much :/ honestly i am a big 'i would rather be hot than cold' believer because i am from a hot country so i know how to deal with the heat but you know what i'm sure the chill can also be intriguing to some... not me though... i hope the winter will be kind on you <3 thank u for letting me invade ur ask box i am creating myself a room here for now i think. anyway. love and hugs!!!! <333
hello!! she is indeed getting bigger <3 if i had to guess right now i'd say i'm maybe...possibly nearing the halfway point of the fic, plotwise? but honestly it's really hard to say lol. i've got 2 more story arcs to cover in part 3 (plus finishing the current one), and then part 4 is gonna have like...2 or 3 story arcs as well, plus an epilogue. so it just depends on how long it takes me to cover all that ground!
and yeah i'm having a lot of fun writing!! i know what u mean abt the whole "ugh writing amirite" bit that writers do lol and i'm sure i do it sometimes too...i mean i think tone varies a lot and many people who complain about writing still really enjoy the activity, but i do think there is sometimes this self-flagellating tendency amongst some writers to act like writing is meant to be this strenuous, emotionally draining activity like ur...idk sisyphus w the stone or something, and if you're writing something 'easy' or 'fun' you're somehow a lower caliber of writer than those who Nobly Suffer for their art, etc...which i think is dumb lol. suffering doesn't inherently make art any better or more noble
& thank u 4 the well-wishes w moving!! i'm mostly nervous about getting to my flight on time lol i have to go into work the literal day before i leave and then catch a train across the country at 5am the next morning 2 get 2 the airport...not going 2 be fun so i'll take all the well-wishes i can get !!
sorry 2 hear u can't find marx in ur native language :( it's hard enough 4 me 2 understand reading in my first language i cannot imagine trying 2 parse it in a second language...maybe it might be easier 2 find one of his (or engels') shorter texts 2 read? capital is a monster but i started off with a few shorter pieces ('socialism: utopian and scientific', 'principles of communism', 'wage labour and capital,' 'value price and profit') which i found helpful! also there are lots of secondary resources of other people breaking down + explaining marx's work; maybe there's a good source in your native language that could give a summary/overview of capital? there's no one right way 2 learn, it's just abt finding what works best for u!!
iced drink supremacy 4ever truly <3 me myself & i we can only enjoy a hot beverage if it's very cold outside...otherwise i am simply thinking well why would i do that 2 myself... & thank u!! happy 2 hear u like the lines!! v happy w them v proud <3 & also appreciate the well-wishes re: weather i cannot relate 2 the hot-weather preference i much prefer cold...or at least i used to i grew up in a relatively cold climate but then i moved south 4 university so at this point i'm going on 6 years of living in what is categorized as a "humid subtropical climate" & i think my winter tolerance has been all but destroyed it hardly ever drops below freezing...but hot&humid weather is still my least favorite i think i would prefer icy-cold winter + mild summer but i will be actually putting that theory 2 the test this year so!! who knows maybe my hubris will be my downfall...
& of course!! u are welcome 2 stop by + chat anytime...in my heart we are drinking iced beverages 2gether <3 also as requested here is a snippet from ch 14:
“Don’t,” he tells her, firmly, “Don’t say that. I don’t—want you involved. If they ever did anything to hurt you…I wouldn’t be able to live with myself.” She stares at him, eyes ablaze. “And how do you think I feel? Knowing that they only pick on you because—” her voice falters, cracking, “Because you’re with me?” Her lip is trembling again, tears threatening to spill over from her eyes. Sirius shakes his head, helplessly, at a loss for what to do.
#snippet is a bit spoilery i think...might be able 2 piece 2gether some of what's gonna happen based on it#but also might just be confusing lol#hard 2 post anything from ch 14 without giving some stuff away tho so!! out-of-context possibly-spoilers it is...#ask#wfrau

Something that amuses me is the fact that I’m not caught up on literally any of my fictional others’ source material!
This is a brief study of where I left every single media (and why):
these are my personal experiences and i certainly don’t judge anyone for not sharing them or for enjoying a plot twist/plot arc that i disliked!
BNHA (anime)- I watched to the end of season 4 and never picked up the next season: I was getting tired of suppressing my emotions about the whole hero/police parallel issues and just decided the fanfiction would be more fulfilling than the actual story.
Homestuck- I read the original webcomic to the end, but I abandoned HS2 like a hot potato and refused to touch the whole franchise for a year and a half: it was such a bitter piece of writing, mocking the fandom and erasing the progress most of the characters had made in their original arcs, and I don’t know that I’ll ever fully forgive the creators for it.
Magic School Bus- I read most of the books when I was a kid, but I never watched the TV show! I was one of those 90s kids who didn’t have cable, and I’m not sure I’ve read ALL of the books: it’s been a while for most of them, though I do have 2 still on my bookshelf
TMA- I always preferred the oneshot horror story part of The Magnus Archives, so I started to get pretty burned out around season 3, but I kept going until season 5! Season 5 tends to be less stories and more horror-themed poetry/abstract concepts, so I just didn’t.... bother? But I’m glad people who enjoyed the plot aspects seem to have liked the ending!
Critical Role- uhhhhh I’ll get back to this some day! I’m thinking of starting Campaign 2 from the beginning again? The stakes just got too high and I didn’t love what the group was doing, and it just got stressful instead of fun... but some early-days episodes might get me hooked again!
Rick and Morty- I have to consume this show at a bit of a snail’s pace because the abuse and alcoholism can really get under my skin. I just recently started Season 5 and I’m working at it slowly.
(secondary F/O sources under ‘read more’ so I don’t flood dashboards!)
Black Butler- I did watch the whole anime but I was honestly more into the manga, which is still running! I read until I was caught up in 2015, but I just haven’t gone back into the fandom since then, although I still lovingly stroke the spines in every bookshop: maybe I should make an effort to get the new volumes from the library!
Welcome To Night Vale- I listened to the first hundred episodes! Actually, the first 121, but it was more and more multi-episode arcs and I wasn’t into it, so I let it go. I need to go back and catch up on my Kevin dearest’s arc though :)
Danganronpa- I was watching the Game Grumps playthrough and I finished the first game with them, but they were super halfhearted about the second game, so I only watched one trial, and now I’m waiting to have enough money to buy and play games 2 and 3 for myself!
Mary Poppins- okay this might be an exception BUT I haven’t read the original books!
Nightmare Before Christmas- a second exception BUT I heard terrible things about the new book so I decided not to read it! Does that count?
Sandman- I’ve read the comics fully, including the follow-up comics after the initial run. However, I have NOT watched the TV show: Death looks great but I can’t get over how much they butchered Dream and I just can’t bear to watch any of the scenes with him in it, and he’s the heart of the damn series so it doesn’t feel worth it
American Horror Story- I watched a few full seasons but got a bit tired with the ‘in your face’ style of horror in each season, and categorically refused to watch the Coven season for ‘raised pagan’ reasons. I watched House, Asylum, Freak Show, Cult, and Roanoke, but I really only enjoyed House and Asylum as full stories.
And that’s the story of why I’m not caught up on any of my f/o’s origin medias! Thanks for reading to the bottom, it’s something I’m quite insecure about (like I don’t love them enough if I haven’t finished the original media for their sake) so I decided to write about it in a fun way!
#my f/os#hark i say nothing#fandom negativity#none of these are direct judgments on the media!#but it can still get kinda negative at times#thus it is tagged :)

Filling this out for Teki because why not.
Stress stress stress, unable to handle all the emotions and probably actually kill somebody from emotional overload
2. Immerse self in work, keep working, keep working-
3. Fluttering wings, antenna twitching, sometimes flapping wings if especially happy. Sharing with usually Arcen, sometimes NT depending on scenario. Riuk if he was still around.
4. Tear up, close up, immerse self in distractions (Typically work) then later open up to Log during his monthly therapy sessions. Very very reluctantly seeks comfort from Arcen or NT, NT more likely for comforting
5. Internalize their panic, suppress their emotions just enough with just the goal of saving as many as possible and making it out alive as secondary.
6. Tense up, speechless, hope it's a bluff and continue on. If not, probably panic and fight back if they can while being forced to succumb in the end anyways
7. Uncomfortable, shove them away, shiver and rub their wrists while flapping their wings
8. Confused, surprised, flustered. Depending on who, might consider it out of desperation for affection and having someone more available than their friends
9. Hurt, confused, pain pain pain- Close up, avoid them, get uncomfortable at any mention or thought of them
10. Immediately go into medical survival mode, checking vitals, checking condition, try to fix it themselves or seek out ways to stave off the bad effects before they can either get to someone they trust to fix the issue or go to medbay under emergency needing care
11. Uncomfortable, looking around, tense, searching for source or hide depending on mood prior
12. Medical instincts kick in. Fix themselves, do what they can to stabilize it if not past a point of no return, if not then bring to place where they can be tended to.
13. Same as above but with more instance of doing it themselves if possible and a LOT more tense behavior
14. Enemy or not, they're getting medical treatment. Just, be in the other room while healing and leave after you're done and NEVER COME BACK-
15. Depends on relation. -If it's an acquaintance/friend: ...The floor is less embarrassing. Or the ceiling. In fact, maybe outside the house. -If it's a close friend/lover: cuddle, clingy, at least cover them with the one wing mostly in tact and maybe hold hands.
16. -If it's someone they don't like: absolutely not, they would rather starve. They can't trust anybody they don't like. They don't simply dislike someone for no reason, it takes a lot for them to not like someone. And if a certain dark grey robot gets near them- -If it's someone they have a crush on: Flushed, embarrassed, accept it, thank them, try to make conversation or at least get them to stay after eating
17. -If it's a partner-to-be: cautious, confused, tense and on edge. Paranoid while very flushed still. Mostly paranoid and tense thinking something bad is happening and they're simply being protected from it. Trauma response. -If it's an enemy: panic maul scratch get away get away get away-
18. Lover 100%. They haven't seen their family in ages, they want the one closest to them and that'll be there for them and take care of them, not the ones that-
19. Shove them away, panicked, trying to recover the stress of nearly dying by themselves, denial of the fact their enemy helped them. How can I trust you after what you've done?
20. Stress stress stress, tear up slightly, regret existence and everything around them, try to think of ways to get help or prolong the dancing not to exhaust themselves (ie go slower), hope to be saved in some way
21. Don't eat it, push it away, leave establishment, never go back, tense, on edge. Get away get away, PTSD of NULL
22. Situational, depends on relation and current mood. Overall, mostly mood. Positive is awkward, uncomfortable, tense and uneasy while pushing the other away. Angry is same as positive but a lot more aggressive, may bite and tell them off. Sad/Stressed would be taking whatever they can get for comfort/break
23. Objective: Teach them a lesson. Panicked inhales, sharp exhales, tears dripping down smooth flesh and staining fur. Shaking, clattering metal grip against metal, midnight meeting the others eyes. Promises that it'll be temporary. Cracking voice true for once. "please, please stop crying i... It's only for a moment- please I'm... i-i'm sorry-"
24. Own life without hesitation. They care not for themselves if it means the ones they care for is okay in the end.
25. Depends on what (ie another person), may not even give it up for the lover depending on what. If an object, may mourn it. Think of it a lot. Reassure lover it's fine but may try to replicate the object if possible or something. If a person, depending on the person, will not even save lover for them (NT and Arcen are more important to them than some kind of lover)
what will your character do..
(reblog and brainstorm, lovelies! u can also write drabbles with theseee )
if they're met face to face with their plot, with no warning?
if they're stressed?
if they're happy? who will they want to share it with?
if they're sad? will they go to anyone for comfort? if yes, who?
if they're forced into a life of death situation?
if they're being threatened?
if they're kissed by their ex?
if they're confessed to by someone who they had no clue liked them? (given, they're single or not)
if their lover betrays them?
if they're coughing up blood out of the blue?
if there's a strange presence in the room, and it feels ominous?
if they discovered a dead body?
^ if the dead body is their best friend? (great question to start and develop a plot)
if their enemy is at their doorstep, bruised and injured?
if they had to share a bed with someone they don't particularly hate? ahem
if they had to be fed by someone they didn't like/their crush?
if their partner-to-be? enemy? pulls them into a secluded and shushes them? (their bodies pressing and all that!!)
when asked to choose between their family and their lover? (given the circumstances of ur story)
when kissed on their head by their enemy after a near death experience?
if they're dancing with a stranger, and the stranger says 'stop dancing, sweetheart and you'll hunted. do u wanna die?' ?
if they find out the food that served to them has glass dust on it? (who is it served by?)
when being pulled into a hug when they most need it by someone they least expect?
when they have to hold someone they loved at a gun point? why would it even occur?
when they have to choose between their own life and their lover's?
when they've to give up something (of great importance to the character) to save their lover?

alrighty, ive now caught up from my backlog of touhous that ive beaten, so the pace from now on is gonna slow down since i need to beat the games first before i write about them. who knows though, if they take as long as this one did maybe i can keep up this pace :P
nina's thoughts on Touhou 12 - Undefined Fantastic Object
so funny story, after Subterranean Animism took me like two weeks to finish, i went into UFO expecting a similar result, but i ended up clearing within a single day. twelve (12) attempts of UFO and i had already got my 1cc! im a bit impressed with myself tbh, but i think i was helped by the gameplay changes in UFO that make it a bit easier.
for starters, real bombs are back baby! no more trading attack power for survivability, full power bombs are here again as a seperate resource. life pieces stick around, but now boss fights only give one out when you defeat their last phase. you would think this makes life pieces incredibly scarce, but theres another entirely new source for them: the titular Undefined Fantastic Objects. some enemies now drop little ufos that fly around the screen that come in one of three colours. when you pick up a ufo it goes into a small tracker in the corner, and when you collect 3 in a row all of one colour, or 1 of each, then a Big UFO spawns on screen. the UFO sticks around for about 10 seconds, slurping up every collectible that shows up onscreen. for each item it grabs, a meter around the ufo fills up and at max it drops an item depending on the colour, and when destroyed it drops another item plus everything it picked up. rainbow ufos drop more small ufos, green gives you a bomb on full meter and a bomb-piece on kill, red gives you a life piece on both, and blue does… something? i don't know. i never saw any items pop out of a blue ufo, and i prioritized blue ufos the least. i can only assume they do something relating to points since those are blue, but i honestly have no idea cause i beat the game before i had to go look anything up about it. once i figured out red guys gave you life i basically hard-focused proc'ing red ufos as much as possible, going for rainbow or green when red wasnt possible. as weird as the ufos are, i have to say their mechanics are conveyed surprisingly well without any real tutorials or even words, just really solid ui design.
the last new addition to the gameplay comes in the playable characters, Sanae is here now! wooo Sanae lets go! obviously Reimu and Marisa are here too, each of them get 2 weapon options so theres still only 6 total. i gave each one a shot, although some of them i literally only played once lol. Reimu has the standard homing shots and needles, Marisa has her illusion lasers but a new secondary weapon that shoots in sort of branching V-shapes, with a couple shots going behind her as well as in front, which i didnt find many uses for in my brief experience with it. illusion laser is the only one of these that i played more than once, as i put most of my focus into Sanae. both of Sanae's movesets are pretty neat, her first one was my weapon of choice for my 1cc attempt. based on Kanako, she shoots out snake beams that fly vertically, and then if they see an enemy to their left or right they take a 90 degree turn, making for an interesting type of homing. her other set, based on Suwako, shoots out frog beams in a wide fan angle, or straight ahead when focused, that explode into lingering AoE damage when they hit a target, which is great at clearing out huge swarms of enemies. i really like how her movesets sorta play off of Reimu's homing shots and Marisa's piercing lasers, but in very different ways compared to the two of them.
for the new characters, my favourite is probably Kogasa. this poor umbrella girl just wants to be scary, but shes inherently too silly-goofy and struggles to do what she as a youkai is Supposed to do. she's trying her best though, and looks adorable while doing it. i believe in you Kogasa!
i wasn't expecting to be a Ichirin & Unzan fan, but they surprised me. Ichirin is basically a stand user, a buddhist monk who controls her partner Unzan, a old man wind spirit with a powerful beard and even more powerful fists. the spell cards involving Unzan are great, seeing his huge angry face show up and throw hands is just hilarious. the best one by far though is their final attack, what i would call the absolute funniest spell card of the entire series so far: Thunderous Yell 「A Scolding from a Traditional Old Man」. if the name alone didn't convince you, the visuals are also hilarious, with two massive Unzan faces appearing on each side of the screen and shooting angry eye lasers at you. just look at it. perfection.
it's become a pattern in these posts that i talk about three new characters, but none of the others in UFO really stood out to me. if i had to pick one id go with Captain Murasa, just cause pirates are cool, but i don't have much more to say about her lol. sorry UFO crew!
anyways i think its about time to wrap this one up. thankfully i kept this one short so we dont have another SA essay situation lol. UFO is pretty fun, if a little bit Too easy with how much free stuff you can get from good ufo management. the story and characters really didn't stand out to me, and with how quickly i finished this one i don't expect it to really stick out much in my brain once i finish the series. if anything from UFO sticks it probably will just be Unzan's laser eyes. can we play that back one more time? thanks.

#JakeReviewsItch Week In Review Archives
This week's reviews:
🧡🧡🧡🧡🤍 Alien Life Lab 🧡🧡🤍🤍🤍 All Haze Eve 🧡🧡🧡🧡🤍 All You Can Eat 🧡🧡🤍🤍🤍 Alone With You 🧡🧡🧡🧡🤍 Alt-Frequencies 🧡🧡🤍🤍🤍 Ambidangerous 🧡🧡🧡🤍🤍 Amelie
It's a week of messes! Steam is a mess! I am a mess! Even the Game of the Week is a mess!
Game of the Week
All You Can Eat is easily the best game I reviewed this week. Alt-Frequencies is the clear runner-up. Game of the Week, however, is a title that goes to the game that's still occupying my brain after the fact...
At the end of my Alien Life Lab review, I said it had a New Game+/Second Quest thing. I think I was wrong. I thought the game was telling me to play again, but this time there would be three aliens who would need to be rescued along the way. In reality, I think this secondary objective had been there from the start, and I just didn't notice. So I played it a second time. I talked to every space person I saw, some of whom followed me. I finished, and found that I'd only rescued 1/3. Rats. I'll probably never see the good ending, and that's okay. Each time I loaded the game, I thought, "I overrated this, right? It's sort of trash, isn't it? Do I like it ironically? And every time, I got sucked right back in to it. I like it more now than when I reviewed it. I like it as much or more than I like the turn-of-the-millennium shooters and immersive sims that it recalls—System Shock 2, Half-Life, Deus Ex...
It is a mess. It's easy to articulate its faults. There's just something about how thoroughly weird and unpretentious it is, though, and even after beating it twice in a week, it still rattles me. It pulls off jump scares just as well in open, brightly lit arenas as it does in darkened, twisting paths lined with squishy, organic matter. Oh, yes, the audio design. That's the real source of dread. Again, All You Can Eat is the game to play this week. It's currently the third-best reviewed game on this site. It pushes the adventure game genre in such an exciting direction that half of my review was just the repeated word, "Genius!" Alt-Frequencies is the most mainstream pick of the bunch, and not because it lacks fresh ideas and idiosyncrasies. It's currently the fourth-best reviewed game on this site. I have another game from Accidental Queens on the review docket for the week after next, and I am jazzed. That studio hasn't missed yet.
Alien Life Lab is stupid and weird. I can't stop thinking about it.
Steam Is Hot Air
Do you remember 2003? Do you remember Valve requiring some big, annoying launcher service for anyone who wanted to play Half-Life 2? If you don't, let me tell you: A lot of people wanted to play Half-Life 2, and a lot of them were not happy about downloading this "Steam" thing. They wanted you to check in online every time you launched a game???
I'd hoped to illustrate the vitriol with contemporary examples. Forum posts, IGN editorials; that kind of thing. Unfortunately, the best archival records I could find come from the creeps at Penny-Arcade. These guys are awful, and I'd rather not link to their site, but they had their finger on the pulse when it came to petty grievances. They were influencers. When Jerry "Tycho" Holkins wrote about being scared of a computer asking for credit card information or about local-multiplayer enthusiasts feeling infuriated because they couldn't connect to Steam from their local LAN café, he was capturing the whiny, online zeitgeist. I didn't have high-speed Internet or a computer capable of running Half-Life 2 in 2003, so that particular controversy didn't occupy much space on my radar. I do remember the first time I played Half-Life 2 at a friend's house. Launching the game seemed like a process, accompanied by a halfhearted rant from my friend that was aimed equally at Steam and the idiots who acted like this mildly obtrusive application was tantamount to a war crime. Let me jump forward and ask: What exactly was the Epic Games Store hullabaloo? Or maybe that should be is; not was. I still see people taking up arms over...something. There are a million valid reason to dislike and distrust Epic as a company, but as far as I can gather, the crusaders are angry that a big corporation threw around a lot of money to complete with another big corporation? I'm generally against impossibly wealthy corporations reshaping the world to their liking, but look consider how pathetic and unnecessary Ubisoft's and Electronic Arts' launchers are. Even with Epic snagging a exclusives and timed exclusives, have they made any kind of dent in Steam's monopoly? Let's talk about the danger of consolidated power.
I've mentioned before that when I play PC games, I use my third-party Switch Pro Controller whenever possible. It feels good. It was dirt cheap. It works for me. Or it did work for me, until a few months ago. Most modern games are prepared to encounter an Xbox controller. PlayStation controller support is not uncommon. Native Switch controller support, though? Forget it. In a recent update, Steam added full, official support for Steam controllers of all kinds...but not my controller. What had happily been accepted as a Switch Pro Controller one day was read as an Xbox controller the next. The Screen Capture Button that had never had any issues no longer does anything, because an Xbox 360 controller doesn't have that button, and apparently that's what I'm using. I lost rumble support on some games. The little surprises never end. And because Steam has historically been the PC's best bet for controller support, other launchers don't offer any competitive options. Go to any Reddit thread where people want to know how to make their controller work, and 9/10 replies are the same thing: Steam Big Picture Mode.
This is the most dramatic update in 20 years of Steam, and Valve just seems to be sinking deeper into the muck each day. If you haven't personally noticed any issues, look no further than the patch notes for proof that everything's in shambles, all the time. I encountered a bug where Big Picture Mode would make a sound like it was launching, and then it would just show my desktop. I found some suggestions online and got things working. Then, in the next update, they broke it all over again.
When it works, I don't have much beef with Steam. I prefer it to the old days of games installing wherever they pleased. I like that having an account that allows me to maintain my game library indefinitely, no matter how many times I replace my computer. Steam has been good to me.
But the naysayers were onto something. Digital Rights Management is only as good or as bad as the rights-holder chooses to be, and we all know how trustworthy and stable corporations are.
My Itch library may consist of "DRM-free" applications, but I'm depending on Itch to keep up its end. If the company folded tomorrow, there's no way I could download and back-up all my games.
I own games through GOG, Ubisoft, and Rockstar. Their launchers are fine, but I'm not comfortable making additional purchases on any service run by companies that (aLlEgEdLy) cover up systemic harassment and abuse. I have handfuls of games tied to this account or that. I'd obviously prefer to have them all in one place, but who can you trust? Can you ever really trust anyone?
Steam is still the best option. It's only real option, which is to say, we don't have options. It's working so far. Except when it's not. Can't wait to see what they break with the next patch.
Jake Reviews #JakeReviewsTwitch
Take a look at the tiny blue text at the bottom of this post. It appears on almost everything I post. But today, it's different. Today, it says, "#JakeReviewsItch" for the first time. I'm in my third month of posting at least once a day, and this is the first time I've noticed that my template has had a ridiculous typo all along. I remember writing "Twitch" when I meant "Itch" on the first day. I corrected it. It's something I've written and corrected many more times since then. I probably should have known to double check for it in my template as soon as I started using a template. I probably did. I probably deleted "Twitch" and wrote "Twitch" in its place. I've made changes to my format little by little since I started. Every day, I think, "I should shake it up. Question everything I'm doing. Tear it down and build something new. I should give scores out of 10, rather than five. Some of these 4/5s should be 3/5s, and some of these 3/5s should be 1/5; better adjust the whole scale. Tumblr isn't the right place for these reviews, anyway. How hard would it be to transfer to another site? And when am I going to write a post about everything wrong with my page?" Maybe it would be easier if I just committed to reviewing every single stream on Twitch

Core Fears as results of temperamental characteristics
I hadn’t put these on tumblr & it occurred to me that I probably should
So recently there have been a couple of really excellent posts on the core fears by a poster who has alas since deleted their account.
To recap, they’re not really a good typing instrument because they’re not always conscious (if anything, typing yourself is maybe supposed to help you see the red line between all your conscious fears or avoided / difficult to cope with situations) nor are they necessarily wholly imagined threats.
In the discussion underneath that, I floated an idea that I now mean to expound upon: That we all, in fact, kind of fear something that we’re especially vulnerable to & hence have a big stake in avoiding.
So my premise here is that your basic temperament and/or attention focus comes first and the fear and surrouding complex is secondary, not the other way around as it is sometimes proposed. That is not far-fetched when you consider that babies are already born with distinct temperaments and how personality factors like degree of extroversion, novelty-seeking, risk-taking, pleasure-seeking, sensitivity etc. have already been mapped to physical and sometimes heritable characteristics.
Also, it explains why you have those particular 9 fears, and not, like, any other arbitrary set:
They happen to be what the discernible flavors of human (sorted perhaps according to the extent to which they use the algorithms or functionalities represented by the „centers“ or triadic characteristics) tend to get in a frenzy about, what someone with this & that temperament is predisposed to find horrible.
When you view it from this point of view, it maybe makes more sense to associate each type with a spectrum of typical fears than like one defining central one.though some are secondary/underlying than others.
In practice that is what you see when you ask ppl, not in the least because its going to be filtered through the instincts anyways – eg, a sp 6 would be more concerned about physical dangers whereas a social one might worry more about being targeted or blamed.
An interesting source for this are what the EA study recorded when asking previously types ppl for their actual fears - the descriptions at "Enneagramer" also compiled/noted more variations on possible fears (for all that the actual description texts other than the very good 9 and 6 are weaksauce imho, 7 and 1 are barely there and 5 and 4 are more like disambiguation pages than about the thing they're supposed to be about)
So, let’s get through it.
1
Reported Fears: Being wrong, bad, becoming careless, cutting loose, losing control, being unqualified, being corruptible, being reprimanded, reproached or condemned, making mistakes
Explanation:
All comes down to existing correctly somehow.
What’s the shared denominator behind tidiness, morality, or correct methoology for tasks?
Beacause on the surface these are somewhat different things.
„Is this correct or not?“
There was a really excellent post a while back about the „binaristic“ quality of thinking – Is the room perfectly tidy or not etc?
If there’s only correct or not correct, then there’s little distinction between a small human flaw and being The Worst.
This is also where the uncomfortableness with spontaneity comes from – its not so clear how you would immediately evaluate that. Its a great unknown where one may easily stumble into the realm of Not Correct.
2
Reported Fears: Being worthless, unlovable needy, unhelpful, unacknowledged, disconnected, rejection, loneliness, being forgotten about or unimportant to others
Explanation:
This one is fairly easy to explain; If you have a relatively strong need for love & bonding & being connected to others is basically how you feel your existence, the prospect of others not loving you is Bad News to the point of feeling like an existential threat of sorts – yet outright admitting this want exposes you to the risk of being denied and might be unappealing to others in itself, or so you fear.
3
Reported Fears: Failure, being incapable, incompetent, inefficient etc., a nobody, unable to "do", being exposed, looking bad
Explanation:
Probably comes down to strong response/suceptibility to praise or humiliation, and social feedback in general. You hear from individuals that they wish they didnt care so much what people think, but if it hurtsalot or feels really good, thats easier said than done.
4
Reported Fears: Being easily understood or easily liked, being ordinary, too easily impressed/ satisfied, that their life has no meaning, being forgotten, being consumed with grief, not reaching their potential, feeling lost, being replaceable
Explanation:
All of these boil down to questions of significance – why don’t you want to be too easily impressed? Cause then your approval wouldnt mean anything/be annything special.
The attetion focus is on the ‚symbolic‘ function of assigning personal significance to everything, of wondering what it all means and especially what it means about you – paying attention to your feelings & looking to derive significance from them.
So, what could be worse than if there was no answer? That the life you’re forced to witness in equisite detail, the self you cant get away from, is just completely insignificant.
5
Reported Fears: Intrusion, emptiness, ignorance, surplus, depletion, being fully embodied, annihilation, not existing, obligation, being pressured, overwhelming feelings, people(TM)
Explanation:
These fall under the categories of „anything that violates the integrity of the self“ and „being unable to cope with situations.“. The former is both a consequence of the latter and also perhaps a result of being identified with your sense of separateness and the need to maintain it.
As for coping with situations, well, if you’re sort of easily startled and dont have very developed instinctive snap judgements, the possibility that you’ll just stand there like a deer in the headlights if you dont know what to do or that youll find it „too much“ is hardly just a hypothetical.
6
Reported Fears: Being blamed, physically/emotionally abandoned, having no support or guidance, uncertainty, social anxiety, things going wrong, missing something, being/dying alone, submission, being targeted, chaos, fear itself
Explanation:
If you comprehend the world primarily through your thinking, then it might seem like it could just completely change from one moment the next, as easily as you might think of a different possibility or some sort of what if.
Much of these come down to a lack of certainty – not being sure that things will go well, that people will stay with you etc.
7
Reported Fears: Emotional pain, sadness, disappointment, boredom, limitation, being incomplete or inferior, missing out, being confined, being stuck/trapped
Explanation:
Most of these boil down to limitations, loss of options – what is the pain of grief than the loss of a possible future or the possibility of bein happy tgether again?
There’s this little poem by Kubo Tite that goes like, „What’s truly frightening is not to know sorrow, but to know that you can’t go back to the happiness you once had.“
In the book I’m reading right now (which is some couple therapists’ take on the enneagram - which might yield some writeups when I’ve finished & processed it) a noticeable feature in the temperament of kids that later turn out ot to be 7s is distractability. Or perhaps its better to phrase it as being impressionable & receptive to ideas (& hence distracted when the next idea displaces the last)
And since you’re perceiving the realm of ideas as the primary or most salient layer of reality, these ideas seem very real. Once you’ve gotten all excited about the great road trip you’re having tomorrow, the possibility that you might not get it – not get the positive scenario you’ve imagined as if it were already present, seems like a real loss.
8
Reported Fears: Weakness, being controlled, being used or taken advantage of, disempowered, humiliated, degraded, harmed, vulnerable, at the mercy of injustice
Explanation:
The common line seemed to be „having another’s will forced upon you, and hence, your own negated“, which is directly the opposite of acting upon the world, making an impact on it or having autonomy.
This is admittedly the one where I’m still a bit fuzzy about the exact interconnections
9
Reported Fears: Conflict, being overlooked and ignored, being loveless, complication, discord, being shut out, inharmonious
Explanation:
The basic quality of perception/attention tends to be the least ‚filtered‘. Basically the most permeable, receptive or „at the mercy of“ the outside world, easyly identifies with people or the environment etc.. If external chaos, conflict or disagreements are going to affect you this strongly, you’re gonna develop an aversion to them. If your sense of distinction between yourself and the environment is blurry to begin with, being cut off from that might feel like an existential threat, like losing part of yourself

Did your theory about Yelana come from this art or is it an original theory? There are variations of the text where Yalana shows a little more aggressiveness in her words, but if anything remains of this possible origin I am not aware.
If in fact Yelana was removed from a "campfire scene" because of previous scripts that ended up discarded and complicated the final script… "Frozen 2" was a more chaotic work than I expected.
Although it was by accident or just intentional, it ended up being very favorable to the campaign to give Elsa a girlfriend. Before the campaign had to be content with fanart or Marisol, now there is something more concise and can still be easily hidden if Disney wants.
But considering that if Yelana were to talk to Elsa instead of Honeymaren, it would feel more like Mattias who was talking to Anna. Mattias talks about Agnarr's past and gives advice that would guide Anna's arc ("The Next Right Thing"), Yelana would talk about Iduna's past and give advice that would guide Elsa's arc (Ahtohallan). And Honeymaren, who was introduced as a tree-climbing warrior, would have a role as perhaps a guide for the sisters after the attack by the Earth Giants. But now, whenever any content part of the franchise (canon or not) mentions magic and remembers the Northuldras with names, Honeymaren is remembered and not Yelana, probably not even Yelana's past with Iduna will be remembered if it's not some Iduna flashback.
Poor Yelana. Perhaps she was born as one of the main villains and ended up losing the role of villain and this could have generated a domino effect that diminished her in all the characteristics that remained.
Parallel with Mattias? It was taken from the scene that would provide the best parallel for this to be used in a joke.
Source of information about magic? Your disciple, Honeymaren, will pass on her knowledge to Elsa.
Past with Iduna? Who cares, Elsa can now get any information through Ahtohallan. And if we want to remember this relationship without using Elsa's powers, just do a flashback to Iduna and Yelana doesn't need to open her mouth.
And for me Yelana is my main bet for a character who could die in “Frozen 3” and “Frozen 4”, this in addition to establishing a threat if it were during an attack could also elevate Honeymaren to the status of leader of the tribe.
I didn't want ElsaMaren to perhaps be elevated (intentionally or not) thanks to the diminution that Yelana suffered. But I can't deny that maybe it helped. Again, poor Yelana.
Regarding the future, I'm curious to know what Jennifer Lee's next response will be if they don't address the topic again: “Elsa's romantic life”. Whereas in “Frozen 2” the answer was that Elsa wasn't ready yet, and maybe never will be and that the future will tell if she will be and this has a place in her life, and was worried about dealing with current problems instead of looking for romance... What comes next? Of course they can repeat the same thing, but I'm curious if they will say something trying to escape any confirmation again.
I also don't think they made any hint of romance with a man, after a lot of discussion and speculation about Elsa's love life and in the end the cliché follows: “female character finds love by finding the ideal man”? Okay, her with another woman would also be a bit cliché, but at least it would justify all this mystery and speculation.
My bet remains: the film (F3) will take place years after KristAnna's wedding and will have hints that Elsa married Honeymaren. Nothing explicit, just hints that can be interpreted however you want and that will be the answer in Lee's interview (it will be a similar response to what the producer of "Finding Dory" said about the possible lesbian couple in the film). A secondary plot that only concerns Elsa herself and not the general plot of the film, and that can be excluded when released in certain countries. I think it's the most realistic bet for an LGBT Elsa romance.
What do you think of the theory that Honeymaren was made especially to please fans of #GiveElsaAGirlfriend and that initially there would be more moments made to shipp the two until Disney decided to reduce these moments? I'm not saying that they would actually be a couple, but that all of this was meticulously planned to please these fans who wanted her to have a girlfriend without confirming anything.
I always thought it was very naive to think that after years of Disney avoiding the question: “Will Elsa have a girlfriend in Frozen 2?” and they release the film which, despite not being romantic, still shows her talking near a campfire (a moment used in many romance films) with a girl of the same age while they caress a reindeer calf, sing a small duet and they talk about magic and traditions when it would have made much more sense for Elsa to have that conversation with Yelana, but the plot made the older woman stay away from there.
According to most sources I’ve seen (but I need to do more research regarding this, if I'm being honest) the reason Honey (and Ryder) were created was to simply have characters that helped the audience empathize with the Northuldra. They used to have a bit more story content in earlier drafts, which is a shame they got rid of chunks of their story because there wasn't enough screen-time for everything.
This is one of the reasons I feel Frozen 2 would've made an amazing series instead of a film, and why Frozen 3 being separated into two films is such a great idea, even if the initial intention was for more profit. Because let's face it, both the first and second films suffer from the 'too much stuff, not enough space' plot issues so having a show and double film will do wonders for the story going forward.
They also needed characters to help gear the story in the right direction. Honey tells Elsa about the Fifth Spirit, and Ryder helps get Kristoff out of the way so that Elsa and Anna could be alone during the boat scene.
The reason I think Yelena was probably not used, is because her original role was to be a villain along side Runeard, but they scrapped the idea after heavy criticism. Since they had already made Honey and Ryder, there was no point I suppose in giving Yelena a different role other than a leader type to mirror Mattias, especially since they had to shrink down the Northuldra's stories to begin with.
Now, in terms of Honey being created specifically to please fans who want Elsa to be with another woman, I can't say for certain.
I do know that there was a tweet that Jen Lee liked during a Frozen QandA on Twitter (X) where a user begged her to keep Elsa single so that people can imagine her to be with another woman if they wanted. I will see if I can find this tweet for you, but as Jen Lee deleted her Twitter, I’ve lost a lot of sources.
Unless her sentiments have changed, I think Jen Lee will try to keep Elsa single for as long as possible so that fans can decide for themselves what Elsa's sexuality is. Elsa means so much for fans of all sexual orientations, leaving her sexuality open lets fans have freedom with her character. Jen Lee was always about leaving things open for fans, so this concept is not a stretch.
Thus, the possibility that Honey was introduced so that Elsa can have a strong relationship with another woman that is not Anna, but is left open so that fans can interpret the relationship as romantic or platonic, could be a thing.
However, as said, there is no evidence for it other than speculation.
This is also the reason that I pretty confident that Elsa will never be paired off with a man either. They want to leave it open for fans to decide for themselves. Again, unless their thoughts have changed on the subject.

SCP Scenarios: SCP 1678 (Unlondon) x Reader (REQUESTED)
Source: Photo
SCP Scenarios Masterlist | My Works Masterlist | Main Masterlist | Rules | My Original Post | Request | Socials
Requested by: @lilithisfurry
Ok, so I've done it!!! 😃
Before any of you say a thing, I know that there are 2 humanoid 1678s which are 1678-A (Bobbies/Policeman) and 1678-C (Wretch) and an avian type one (1678-B)
The one I'll be using is 1678-A (Policeman) because it takes too much time to write 3 versions of this SCP (But I might consider writing the other 2, but it's highly unlikely)
First Encounter
When you first met this humanoid, you were sent into SCP 1678 for some test
The police humanoid emitted a loud whistle as the speakers screamed ‘‘Police! Halt, criminal!’’
A couple of others who were with you attempted to shoot them with their guns but were quickly shown to be resistant
Luckily for them, they managed to plant some explosives which caused damage
The other 1678-As went in and attacked them which wasn't unusual because of their hostile nature
However, for you, one of them managed to capture you and ran
For some reason, it showed some interest towards you and warded off the other SCP 1678-As off from you
They seemed to understand that you were "marked" and left you alone
That particular 1678-A managed to get you out from harm and back to your foundation
The foundation staff did wonder what had happened and you told them everything with proof since you were wearing a bodycam
They've soon noticed that this particular policeman was softer towards you as you bandaged up its broken arm
Your feelings for him
After the incident, you were sent back down into 1678 for further research and you bumped back into the sane 1678-A
You only remembered that it was him because of its gesture and its unusual markings which distinguished him from the others
Somehow, you both were able to communicate with each other
The researchers realised that they seemed to understand human speech, mainly English, however, they seemed to understand other forms of European languages as well
Moreover, this particular Bobby also understood sign language and used it to his advantage to communicate with you, displaying some fondness for you
The researchers were reluctant to let you carry on with this test as they've noticed that you've reciprocated the same gesture
Let's just say that the researchers and the other Bobbies agreed to the fact that it was strange for you and that special policeman to be dating
His Confession
Over time, as you both became closer, he worked up the courage to sign to you that he cares a lot about you
And you've found that rather cute and returned the gesture
Which then made you both a rather unique type of couple
The other 1678-As were concerned and curious about this new relationship and so was the Foundation
The researchers had decided to borrow your newfound partner and took him to his new room (No, you've basically kidnapped him)
Needless to say, the other Bobbies were somewhat furious while others were glad that he's gone since he betrayed them for not killing you
Your new partner was somewhat homesick, so you've decided to paint some victorian style art for his cell
Date
From time to time, you both were shoved back into 1678 which just so happens to be the main place for you both to date
Some of his friends were relieved to see him and some would even offer you a hug
You obviously returned the gesture for being so flattering and because your man could finally get laid (NGL yall still be touch starved to the point you'd even date strange beings and objects)
Dates with this Bobby would be rather interesting
Like, he'd hold hands, but probably wouldn't start it during the beginning of the relationship because he's just shy (Just like everybody else here)
Since his face is all bandaged up, you wouldn't really be having many kisses
But he'll make it up with hugs instead
His fellow friends would probably enjoy bothering the both of you while you're there and would pull pranks on you both
If you both were in the foundation, you'd be chilling in his cell and talking bout your experiences in life (Not like you'd have much to say, get back to studying/work)
The researchers may poke fun of you both but would generally leave you both alone
When he gets jealous
Now, depending on who he's jealous of, he would react differently
If it was another fellow 1678-A, he would be slightly hostile and assert his dominance over the others
However, if it was a member of the foundation or anyone else that's not 1678-A for that matter, he'd be even more aggressive and would probably try and kill them
Unless you manage to stop him then it's fine
This Bobby would be slightly possessive because you're the only other person who genuinely cares about him other than his 1678 friends/family
If he sees you having a friendly chat with another person/SCP, he would wrap an arm around you just so the other person knows you're taken
I think over time he learns some boundaries so even if he is aggressive, he wouldn't just automatically send the dude you're with to hell
Unless that person is a crappy person then good for them
Yandere!1678-A
This yandere right here would literally kidnap you and take you back into 1678
He'd make sure that you would never find a way back into the foundation which does concern the researchers, so they send a group of D-classes and MTFs to find you
If he was feeling nice, he would let you wander around 1678 but he would most likely be next to or near you at all times
If he was having a bad day, he would tie you up in a random building and made sure that nobody can get in or out
Would most likely be even more hostile to everybody else around you
If you haven't behaved, he'd probs use something sharp to inflict pain on you
If you managed to behave, then he loosens the ropes around your arms, legs and neck
Probs would feed you tiny doses of 1678-D but only a bit because he's aware of how that affects the bodies of ordinary humans
Their younger sister
You and the other 1678-As would literally be families at this point or friends with the ones who are lurking away from the main area of 1678
And since you were rather new, you were treated as the younger one (That's also because you're the youngest one)
Would probably protect you from everything
You would be spoilt to death and wouldn't have to hurt a fly
One of the policemen would get you a 1678-B as your personal pet
And it's rather fond of you so it basically follows you around
Would most likely intimidate your dates if you have one
Even more so if they're a human/SCP from the Foundation
If it was another member of 1678 then they're more chill
However, if you were dating 1678-C, they'd be quite reluctant for you to be in a relationship with her but would let you anyways
When their kids say their name for the first time
Would 100% be crying internally and shocked
Like, it happened out of the blue since you both were just relaxing
Word would spread across the whole of 1678 because of this
And not because you both were a unique pairing in the first place
1678-A would try to teach your child some sign language in contrast to you who would teach them to communicate verbally
Most likely try and teach the kid to defend themselves and probably attack others
But you wouldn't let him because they were too young (Just like you lot!!! Shouldn't y'all be studying in primary or high/secondary schools?)
The other 1678s would literally yeet their way to meet the kid just so they can teach your child to say more words
And to swear of course
When his S/O is angry
Oh dear
If the foundation doesn't know any better, they'd just assume that all the Bobbies were the aggressive ones
And oh boy were they wrong
You were the one who needs a chill pill
Basically, some guy tried to hit on you and wouldn't stop
So you just casually gave him a taste in his own medicine
Which were a punch in the face and a kick in the nuts (Kids, don't do this to a guy unless he really deserves it)
He somehow got back up and carried on harassing you
Your man was just strolling around the park until he saw the commotion
He had to literally hold you back and made the guy run for his life
Which was a shocker since it's usually the other way around
And of course, everybody inside 1678 heard about the news and cheered on for you while others just ran since they didn't wanna have the first-hand experience with your anger issue
When someone tries to steal you away
Oh this man right here would gather all his police friends as well as the birds to hunt down whoever stole you away
He would be furious to the core and rightfully so
The foundation was informed of this and they didn't blame this SCP
And that's because the person who stole you was from the Chaos Insurgency
Both GOIs hated each other's guts so the foundation just kinda let 1678-A hunt down the guy
And he did along with the MTFs
But was met with you standing over the guy's dead body
Then everybody realised that your man taught you how to protect yourself
And you did it so perfectly that even 1678 was intimidated af
Nobody wanted to mess with you and your partner was relieved that he taught you self defence
When his pregnant!S/O gets hurt by accident
This particular 1678-A that just so happens to be your partner, is rather shy and introverted
Nad although he does his 'job' well, he would rather just stay away from any contact
Until he met you and you became pregnant
This 1678-A would be slightly more protective but would let you have some space
And because of this, you managed to give yourself a papercut
Which was met with a furious policeman
But was cooled down when you explained your injury to him
He was giving you a huge lecture about your safety and how not to get hurt because you're carrying his baby
Wouldn't leave you alone ever again
Even if that means he would have to sit by the corner at all times
Would send his mates to come over to check on you if he wasn't there
Meeting a dragon hybrid child fem!reader
Definitely would be curious about you since they mostly interact with Foundation staffs
Probably would try to attack you but instead got burnt
1678-A would definitely notice your strange appearance and that you cry lava
Would feel bad so he'd try and comfort you
This then leads to you both being rather attached to each other
This particular 1678-A would have to bribe the others to keep you
The foundation realising this would happen
Probably would let you stay there for research purposes
They would most likely help level up your telekineses
Treats you like their own child and would be extremely protective
Most likely would have a heart attack every time you show kindness towards foundation members instead of attacking them
Every time you're in danger, the ones attacking you would soon realise that they've screwed up
Because the SCPs can hear you cry which would summon a whole bunch of them
When he accidentally kills you
He was basically chilling with you until some MTF members arrived to take some samples for testing
They were attacked by the other 1678-As and retaliated
This chill guy would lead you to safety before attacking the remaining MTFs
You realising what has happened decided to try and help out
You noticed that one of the MTF members were about to shoot your guy and managed to throw the gun out of his hand
1678-A notices and tries to attack the member but instead killed you
The remaining MTF members flee as he mourns your death
He would be even more vengeful and aggressive to the foundation members
Which does scare off the other Bobbies
Stayed in one of the abandoned houses to cry alone
Yandere!1678 - A x Evil!Reader
I'd say aside from his yandere self and the fact that he's only more aggressive to everyone else aside from you and giving you some scars, he's pretty dense and thicc in the brain
Probably wouldn't notice that you were working on them for a project in the GOC
You were able to get away with a lot of things because of your small stature and innocent appearance
Definitely managed to fool this yandere!1678-A because of your appearance
You could be just as vicious when you want to be
Yandere!1678-A soon realises that you were just using him for some experiment and were angered to the point of no return
Would most likely try and hunt you down
But since you've already got enough information about this SCP, you were able to devise a plan to leave
Manages to catch up to you but you were fortunate enough to know enough self-defence tactics to ward him off
You never came back to him and he was depressed for all of eternity
Trying McDonald's Sprite
You were requested to bring some ordinary food to 1678 as a test
And you've decided that you wanted to bring some Sprite with some Apple pie, mozzarella dippers and pancakes (They're my soul food from Mackies ok? Don't judge)
When you arrived in 1678, that one particular policeman who is attached to you for some odd reason was curious about the food
Of course, he would need to take off the bandage on his head to taste the food but not before some bribery from you
He reminisced about the food since he loved eating them before he turned into 1678-A
Sprite, however, was slightly different
He never tried them and was surprised with how good they tasted
Most likely would ask you to get more for him though
Foundation staff would be rather conflicted but allowed you to reward him with Sprite and some food
Only whenever he behaved well though
When his kid swears at him
You should've seen the look on his face (oh the irony)
You both taught your kid verbal and non-verbal communications with some common sentences people would say
But never have either of you taught your kid how to swear
Kinda just happened and 1678-A was about to go into cardiac arrest (Pun intended)
Would hunt down whoever taught them that depending on the severity
Like if the kid was using a ton of swearing in a sentence and was directing it to either of you, 1678-A would kill the guy
You were more of a chill type of parent
But would recommend the kid to stop swearing sine it's rude
Most likely wound ground the kind for a week tbh
When the reader scares him (Child!Reader)
Well, let's just say you managed to make the policeman play hide and seek with you
And you were the one hiding since you secretly knew that you were a professional at it
So you made 1678-A to find you
And although he's pretty good at catching his victims, he couldn't find you (Cuz y'all be so short)
Like he was literally in front of you and he still couldn't see you and you even giggled
So you've decided to jump on him
And oh boy was he about to scream out for help
But luckily he didn't cuz the others would whoop yo ass
Probably wouldn't give you a lecture but would need a while for his precious heart to not go yeetus the fetus
He would probably yeet you though tbf
When the reader pole dances/aerial silk dance
1678-A probably would have some ideas on what pole dancing is
Maybe not as much with the term aerial silk dancing but would soon understand when he sees you dancing
Probably thinks that you're trying to fondue with him if you're pole dancing
Definitely would be in awe when he sees you dance with the aerial silks
Would have a difficult time mimicking you if he ever wants you to teach him
Has definitely fallen 1000 times while pole dancing and broke his arms while dancing 10 ft off the ground
If the others inside 1678 see you dancing, he'd be in a blushing mess, especially if you were dancing to certain kinds of songs
Would most likely tell you to dance for him privately so there's no peeking
Having a Pregnant!S/O
Would most definitely be on the guard more since you're carrying his child
1678-A would most likely follow you around like a well trained and clingy German Shepard
You'd most likely have to tell him to tone it down because you're pregnant, not some delicate flower
Would most likely do whatever you tell him to do, even if it means hurting himself as long as you're safe and sound
Definitely would make sure that another 1678 would be around you at all times when he's away from you
1678-A would occasionally rub your stomach and sing victorian era songs
Sometimes he would bring you some of your favourite foods
When you try to commit suicide
When he hears the news he was devastated
He literally ran 69 miles just to see you
Would give you a big boi lecture about doing that
Nearly had his heart jump out of his body
Would constantly follow you everywhere after this
He's basically your bodyguard at this point
Would bandage up your wounds
Makes sure that you're fed well and all and would give you random gifts out of the blue
Would most likely ask the other Bobbies to care for you if he's not there and would even give you 1678-B
Asks the Wretches to keep a lookout to make sure nobody hurts you
Having a hopelessly romantic/easily flustered GN!Reader
This particular Bobby would most likely be just as easily flustered and hopelessly romantic as you
I'd imagine him trying to make the first move and you both being in a blushing mess
You both would exchange little gifts every now and again
Everyone else just teases and ships you both
You both loving each other unconditionally and constantly worrying about each other when you're both away from each other
This Bobby would definitely protect you from the MTFs and/or D-classes from attacking you
You would make a deal with the foundation to keep your guy safe and sound
The foundation witnessing how lovey-dovey you both are and just dies of cringe and sweetness overload (but not as sweet as out 999)

Reaction to “I joined VOID STEVE's side” - Rainbow Quest Ep. 140
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nsr6KAkGlso
Unless I’m mistaken, Rainbow Quest has 280 episodes, which means I have reached the halfway point of the series. *tired victory fist bump* I am finally on the other side with the other fans who have seen the entire thing.
I do have one comment about RQ being less than 300 episodes long: Wow, RQ is shorter than Steve Saga. I appreciate that as someone who doesn’t enjoy binging extremely long series. It’s really satisfying that the story has been condensed.
Hmm, it’s harder to differentiate Sabre’s voice from Sabre’s “reading other character’s text” voices with the Shadow Sabre voice mod. I need to take a moment to figure out who at the villain table is talking.
I have a mental image of Shadow Sabre reading the text of a happy-go-lucky character, and it’s hilarious.
It’s amusing that Sabre is using more complex words, especially on the spot. Like “yes, the eviler you are, the bigger your vocabulary is, mwahaha.” To be fair, as a writer, I can confirm that using more complex vocabulary in your writing is not always a good thing.
This episode is going to be fun to dissect for my analysis project because this is revealing Sabre’s interpretation of Shadow’s interpretation of the Darkness philosophy. Secondary sources, amirite? says the person who runs Incorrect Steve Saga Quotes without watching the primary source first
I love how Sabre is summarizing all of Shadow Sabre’s spiels about oblivion into “I murder for fun.” Although we haven’t seen his humorous side in a while, it feels in-character for Sabre to exaggerate and parody his enemies, though I can’t remember if this would be in the style of Steve Saga non-canon Sabre or pre-Void Rainbow Quest Sabre.
Shadow is claiming that Sabre enjoys getting responsibilities in Rainbow Void’s rank. My headcanon is that Sabre, although he dislikes playing as the villain, is secretly feeling so smug for tricking Rainbow Void, and Shadow is interpreting Sabre’s smugness as a sign of power-hungryness. The headcanon of Shadow thinking that smugness is a sign of emotional manipulation is hilarious.
***
Alright, we’re at the Yellow Outpost. Belated congratulations for Leather Chestplate Yellow for getting promoted into a leadership position.
I see three possible ways this will go:
1. Sabre will successfully warn the Steves to run away. It doesn’t matter how soon or how late because I’m assuming these Yellow Steves can outrun Soul and Corruption
2. Sabre and Yellow Steves will be stuck arguing until Soul and Corruption will swoop by, and all the Yellow Steves will go like “wtf, Sabre, why did you distract us and let your Darkness bros ambush us?”
3. Sabre will be forced to scare off the Yellow Steves so they don’t face Soul and Corruption’s wrath.
...Yup, it was way 3 that happened.
I like this. We’re not going too many steps forward to make the obstacles too easy or the stakes meaningless. We’re not going too many steps back to make the story unnecessarily depressing and repetitive. We’ve struck the satisfying balance of going one step forward and two steps back, where Sabre actually does something to save his friends but gets his reputation severely ruined as a result. Progressing with a cost. This type of plot progression is ideal to me, and I prefer this much more than the monotonous “scrambling and losing” episodes that Sabre had before he got infected. I hope RQ keeps going with this type of story progression.
Hold up, Shadow using lightning is a choice? Is it hard or easy to mute the lightning when he uses power? Shadow doesn’t talk about things he struggles with, so we’ll never know if he finds it hard to mute lightning, or if muting lightning is easy for him but he keeps using lightning for the sake of dramatic entrances/exits.
Soul and Corruption seem happier about the destroyed Outpost than Shadow is, who only sees the destroyed Outpost as the most realistic thing to do. Seems like those three differ in how much they enjoy destruction. So much for being “One.”
