General Info

Mocha, being a feline hybrid, has tendencies to those similar of a cat, primarily being the instinct to kill and toy with his victims

It was also stated that he is able to purr and meow during this, so it can be assumed most instincts of cats apply to him (Except use of a litter box which was outright stated, he uses a normal bathroom guys)

Mocha is completely asexual, and is somewhere on the aromantic spectrum

He doesn’t have a clear understanding of romance, and wouldn’t do the act of starting a family, cuddling, physical affection

Pili stated that Mocha’s idea of romance differs from the norm but didn’t really clarify what it actually was, I assume well see more of this in character (Personal theory is romance to him is being devoted to one another)

It was stated that he does feel some strong emotions for Pangi that aren’t explicitly romantic but not exactly full platonic as far as I understood?

Also said Mocha could be in a polycule/polyamorous

Doesn’t take flirting or asking people out on dates seriously at all because he doesn’t take romance seriously, even if it hurts people (Asking people out is funny to him though because of their reactions)

An observer and over-analyzer at heart

The thing he hates most is people lying/betraying him

Loves the cold and the snow

Doesn’t have any particular fears, not even death

Does not take most things seriously, pretty much everything is silly to him

Pili’s boundaries [I feel this is relevant]: Shipping is ok as long as it is his character, and the other person is ok with it. Gore/Horror art is a yes as well! Just no NSFW!

Dislikes having any sort of attachments, to anything. This applies to people, a place, pets and objects and tries to keep everything at a distance (This seems to have failed with Pangi)

Often lacks empathy for most people

Self-centered and does this for his own gain, and a very transaction person (However, Pili did say that Mocha is not narcissistic)

Mocha is all bark and all bite, he’d fight more if not for the fact he doesn’t wanna be an asshole to other people on the realm OOC as most of them aren’t pvpers

Listens to hardcore rock music!

He had met one immortal previous to being on realms, there is a chance this will come up again as Pili refused to elaborate further

Self-Destructive Tendencies

Highly likely to provoke people into fights for his own pleasure, even and especially if they are stronger than him

Self-loathing, his own biggest enemy and an enjoyer of self-suffering until others get involved (usually this means people he cares about, not so much for people he’s neutral towards)

Mentioned avoidant-attachment style, however I don’t feel comfortable going into more depth as I’m not educated on it. Added on is an uncomfortableness with emotional intimacy as it’s unfamiliar to him

A masochist, does not fear extreme physical pain and often enjoys it (unsure if he believes he deserves it or if he just likes pain in general, could also be both)

Self-destructive with suicidal tendencies and is completely aware of it, does not want to be stopped from doing so

Often drawn to those with high power either to leech off of or fight

Opinions on others

Clownpierce

His obsession started with a challenge from Clown who stated (in a mocking tone) that Pili could try and kill him

From then on he became determined and obsessed with fighting him, uncaring if he won or lost

Due to self-destructive tendencies he doesn’t care and sees loosing or winning as a win, he either gets his ass beat (which he loves) or he wins and gains respect

Enjoys the sort of one-sided obsession, as it’s what he thinks he deserves (Rather than Pangi’s love for him)

Ultimately he does want to be able to prove him wrong but due to ooc reasons (See: The alchemy buff) he’s likely unable to win the fight

His character lost a lot of motivation as well when Clown wasn’t impressed with him fighting and not bringing an actual axe was an extreme regret for him

Roscumber

Genuinely despises her (Quote. Mocha does not like Ros at all)

Purposefully provokes Ros, in the hopes that it will lure in Clown to a fight

Mocha is very aware Ros is Clown’s weakness, just as Pangi is his

He is not above killing her to get Clown’s attention. The only thing that really stops him is that he knows Ros can’t fight very well OOC and it would cause problems behind the scenes

He believes that Ros’ kindness is cute, but extremely naive and that at some point she will bump into someone who is true evil and that her kindness will get her killed

Pangi

Pangi is one of his only weaknesses and his biggest attachment, and he hates him for it in a way

However, Pangi is his ride or die, they have each others backs no matter what kind of atrocities either commit

Although he flirts with everyone for his (and Bad’s) entertainment, he feels that Pangi may have some unspoken feelings for him and due to it feeling somewhat real, he tries to push him away

On the AroAce spec, however he does feel something for Pangi (Not explicitly romantic, this remains unclarified for now?)

One of two people Mocha truly cares about

Pangi’s insistence on trying to stop him from dying rubs him off strange, and the divorce was a test to see how he’d react in a way, which he did fail. However Mocha’s weak spot for him ultimately overpowers anything else

He is well aware he’s a bad person and thinks Pangi’s love is too good for him, resulting in Mocha trying to push him away as it feels undeserving and Pangi needs better

Badboyhalo

Mocha somewhat sees BBH as an older brother, however he does not understand family dynamics as he has never had a family

One of two people he actually cares for

Is more likely to inform Bad of secrets than he is Pangi, because he knows Bad would not have any extreme emotional reactions to loosing him and will not form an attachment to him

Would likely fight him for fun and choose to fight him over Foolish out of curiosity to see what would happen if he died

Finds his relationship with Foolish entertaining and analyzes it closely

As far as we know, the only person who has ever made Mocha have a panic reaction (Occured when Bad killed him) due to catching him completely off guard

The main reason Mocha asks people out is for Bad’s entertainment (And his own, but he enjoys making Bad laugh)

Foolish

Mocha is drawn to his immortality and strength and is extremely curious about him

His bickering with Bad is a source of entertainment to him

Krowfang

Mocha is somewhat protective of her (This comes both from the in character deal of protection between them, as well as being close friends irl)

Thinks it’s ballsy for stealing the bell and antagonizing Owen, but approves and would consider him an ally

Jonnaay

Thinks he is worth training and protecting after seeing the somewhat attempt on Tubbo’s life with the anvil trap

Believes he could have potential

Badlinu

Thinks he’s chill, maybe a bit endearing however he falls into pretty much the same category as Sausage

As in, he likely won’t help with quests and is mainly there to build

Random af Dallas Winston headcanons!!! (sad stuff included because I can't not ugh) ♡

Dallas doesn't smoke to look tuff, he's got it just as bad as ponyboy. After he told Johnny and Ponyboy to go to the abandoned church, he ends up smoking so much, pacing around his room until he has a coughing fit, and buck makes him stop.

(Movie dallas btw) He's insecure about how big his eyebrows are. He plucks at them unconsciously, until someone points it out. Along with this, he has this weird fear of getting a unibrow because his dad had one, and he constantly scratches between his eyebrows, just in case one is there. (There's not.)

He has ADHD, and can not stop moving ever. I imagine him and Johnny going to a diner, and he's just spacing out, bouncing his leg, and doesn't notice the violently shaking table until Johnny says his name.

After they found Johnny in the lot, Steve and Soda pop had to stop him from finding and (probably) killing the socs. He was so fucking angry.

Steve doesn't fuck with Dallas, and Dallas doesn't fuck with Steve. They once got into a fight and both got *real* fucked up, and now they're both kind of rivals.

Dallas is strong, we know that, but he has muscular legs. Because if he rides horses, ain't no way he's gonna have chicken legs.

He has HUGE hands. Sometimes, he just grabs Ponyboy's entire face. Why wouldn't he?

He doesn't actually like alcohol. Unlike with the smoking thing, he only does it to look tuff. Sometimes, he swaps it out with some soda. Even better, if he does it looks like he has a high tolerance = more tuff.

He really only has street smarts. He dropped out of school when he was 13 and moved to Tulsa, and his parents never bothered signing him back up. He didn't mind though. He stayed with the Curtis's during school hours, and he actually gained a little weight because Mrs. Curtis spoiled him with baked goods.

Once he grew up more, and the greaser vs soc conflict started getting more apparent in his life(and when he started getting an ass), he began losing weight by running.

Speaking of running, he can run for a VERY long time. He got used to running from cops, and he got hella stamina. I like to believe when cops see him doing some illegal shit like starting a fight, they don't bother getting out of the car, because that kid is going to sprint. (But Dallas is smarter, he waits for them to get out first.)

he can NOT grow facial hair. Even though he has light skin and dark hair, he can't grow one for shit. One time he got called 'Babyface' by a girl, and it destroyed his ego. So when he learned Johnny would occasionally shave (like once a week) he was kind of pissed.

He wants a piercing, but he's terrified of needles.

He's gotten used to sleeping on hard benches in prison cells, so he can sleep anywhere he wants, even in jeans.

He definitely prefers soc girls. He doesn't really know why, but he likes the contrast of his greaser personality and a soc in a relationship. He thinks it makes it more fun.

When he learned Sylvia was cheating on him when he was in prison, he was a lot more upset than he let on. He used to visit her every day, and now he just solemnly hung around with the Curtis's.

He chews on his necklace a lot. Darry tells him to quit, but he don't listen. One time, Darry just got pissed and grabbed Dallas by the jaw, and told him (very angrily) to spit it out.

He can eat stupid fast. He got good at it from when he was in prison and had to eat quickly (even if he hated the food) so nobody would take it. He does get sick from it occasionally, but he can hold it down.

One of my really obscure headcanons is that Dallas is half-korean from his mom. He doesn't speak a bunch of Korean because he doesn't live with his mom anymore, but he likes fucking with new officers by pretending he can't speak English. Also, he doesn't really like bringing up his ethnicity because it reminds him of his mom too much.

I’ll admit, I have no way of knowing for sure how much of what I’m about to ask would really be in your usual wheelhouse, but I couldn’t help but wonder if I could ask for information on the Teen Titans…or more specifically, the lineup featuring Dick Grayson (when he was still Robin and hadn’t yet become Nightwing), Starfire, Beast Boy, Raven, and Cyborg. You see, I’ve been a HUGE fan of this team ever since I saw the ‘dramatized retelling’ cartoon about them from the early 2000s as a child. And I’ve not only continued to remain a fan of such in the years since, but also worked to try to gain as much knowledge as I could through reading as many sources as I could find and making educated speculations from there to the best of my ability. However, in light of just how knowledgeable you appear to be, I was wondering if you could give an explanation on the history of that line-up, how accurate that 2000s ‘dramatized retelling’ cartoon was compared to the real thing, and what those five in particular are currently up to nowadays (up to and including their current relationship status if such isn’t too gossipy for you, as I’ve always felt that Starfire was a better endgame girlfriend for Nightwing than Barbara Gordon and am also a proud believer/supporter of Beast Boy and Raven as a couple (though I’m willing to be respectful and not push anything if reality doesn’t match up with my dreams), not to mention have great interest in the rumors I’ve heard about Cyborg and that friend of his named Sarah Simms who runs a social group for disabled kids)?

I'd love to tell you about the Titans but I think you may be falling into something of a common conspiracy theory. Because the Gotham tabloid often get this bee in their bonnets about Bruce Wayne secretly being the mysterious Batman, that of course leads them to bothering Wayne's adoptive children with his first ward, Dick Grayson assumed to be the first Robin and later Nightwing. As is shown by these conspiracy theories (like the equally popular theory that Superman is secretly Daily Planet reporter and Lois Lane's husband Clark Kent) our understanding of who our costumed protectors seem to be in their private lives is seldom as straightforward as we think. This of course goes the same for businesswoman Barbara Gordon who seems to get sucked into this quagmire by virtue of being the daughter of beloved Gotham police commissioner James Gordon. That being SAID, and with groundwork laid, let's talk about the "New Titans"

(The cover of a comic album produced by Detective Comics. Detective has tried to do this "real superheroes as comic stars" thing a few times and it's never been very popular. No wonder they're #4)

(A promotional image of Cartoon Network's "Teen Titans" animated series) While I do enjoy what was done with this series, a lot of the same creatives who worked on the classic MAU cartoons also worked on this. It's not what I would call a first person historical document. First of all, obviously it's line up isn't fully correct. Showing only Robin, Starfire, Cyborg, Beast Boy and Raven as the "main team" whereas the team's actual membership in that era included the first Kid Flash and Wonder Girl. The cartoon also treats this team as the first assemblage of the Titans, when that is also not true in a historical sense. Robin specifically had been a member of said original Titans alongside Kid Flash, Wonder Girl, Aqualad and Speedy. (Who all appeared in the series, save Wonder Girl for some odd reason) I do find it amusing that the show was never able to show Robin without his mask on, because obviously the creative team couldn't know who Robin was beneath his mask whereas the personal details of the other Titans have become at least partially historical record. Again conspiracy theorists love to claim the show contains hidden clues pointing toward the Bat-Wayne theory but I roll my eyes at that as much as I roll my eyes at it anywhere it pops up. (Some particular wingnuts have even chosen to insist that the invented character "Red X" is meant to map onto Wayne's deceased second son, Jason Todd. Which is a theory that is well enough buried simply for being in such poor taste) Most of the stories used in the series are either partially or fully invented, and even what events ARE shown that have a foot in truth are shown DRASTICALLY out of order. Sometimes related to censorship, such as real life mercenary and contract killer Slade Wilson AKA Deathstroke being renamed to simply "Slade" and having his profession softened for television. The Doom Patrol is shown as originally captives of the Brotherhood of Evil, whereas in reality during the show's run the entire team save for Beast Boy himself was assumed KIA after their confrontation with the Brotherhood outside Four Heroes, Maine. They wouldn't be fully reunited with Beast Boy until years after the show's conclusion. I was too young to remember this but I've read anecdotes about the Markovian people lodging protest about American actress Ashley Johnson being cast to play Terra, when the real life Terra was obviously Markovian just by her accent. As well as the softening of her portrayal from a knowing and malevolent traitor to the team rather than a misunderstood victim of Slade's manipulations. There was a short lawsuit involving Neil Richards, aka fashion designer "The Mad Mod" due to his portrayal on the show. while Richards did indeed conduct some rather odd criminal activities, he had, by the time of the show's airing served his time and had founded the now famous "Mad Mod" fashion empire. The suit was settled out of court by Richards who made the public statement "I don't want to be the bad guy, attacking the children's favorite cartoons. I just don't want this all to be summoned on top of me again." The only note he asked of the production is that the episodes never speak his legal name. Though the production went the extra mile of changing the character's appearance for the real Mod's famous ginger bob and green smoking jacket to a crimson bowl cut and union jack coat. As for the modern "fates" of these five, they're all rather simple I'm glad to say. All five are still active superheroes, still close friends and still highly trusted members of the superhero community. As for their romantic entanglements, I couldn't comment on that. Not only am I historian, not a gossip columnist but the personal lives of superheroes are kept rather close to the chest. For the most prominent reason that any public knowledge of their romantic attachments would place those people at terrible risk.

Wukong + Macaque headcanons (part 2)

Wukong:

- Wukong's drawing style is akin to classic paintings, while Macaque's drawing style is anime + cartoony

- his body temperature permanently became warmer from the furnace and he became less susceptible to diseases bc the heat kills the bacteria before it can do anything + he has developed an immunity to most diseases due to his stacked levels of immortality (though maybe there's still a small percentage where he can get sick somehow)

- never saw the need to learn how to cook food bc fruits were available all the time (and he can also use his hair transformation + duplication powers whenever he wants, so he never lacks food)

- his clones are pretty much direct copies of him and function like a monkey hivemind in a sense

- whenever he feels really lonely, he rolls up a blanket and curls up next to it while he sleeps (and pretends it's Macaque bc in those moments he really misses him + they used to hug each other often in the past and he misses that as well)

- dancing was his and Macaque's mutual favorite activity (it's also the only thing he was able to do without stage fright getting in the way bc Macaque was there to keep him grounded); secretly he really wants to do it again but doesn't know how to approach Macaque with everything that happened

- Wukong is an extravert, while Macaque is more like an ambivert (basically an in-between or a combination of traits from both sides-)

- has kept Macaque's personal belongings from the past in very good condition to this day and still looks after them (in spite of how angry he is at Macaque, he can't even fathom the thought of throwing them away, so he just keeps them tucked away in safety instead)

- Wukong was pretty much Macaque's dance partner in the past very often, so consequently, Macaque frequently joined in to draw with him (and even posed for paintings on occasion)

- besides his standard outfit, he typically wears gender neutral clothes (and occasionally wears skirts) (monkeys have much less of a gender difference than humans so I doubt he'd care about which clothes he wears due to growing up with his monkeys)

- he and Macaque liked to give each other small gifts: Wukong would gift bird feathers and Macaque would gift flowers (Wukong preserved most of those flowers in tree resin, while Macaque made the feathers into necklaces or head accessories)

Macaque:

- knows how to play multiple musical instruments but his preferred picks are dizi (horizontally held flute) and erhu (two-stringed bowed instrument), though he hasn't gotten a chance to practice much in the present; he also sometimes practices his singing in private

(yes he typically gets headcanoned to have a love for theater- but I wanted to do something different bc technically Macaque never touches anything theater related ever again since "Shadowplay" in canon)

(also bc I like to imagine Macaque singing Alejandro Saab's covers of songs for silly purposes) (also i just like to think that he has a good sense of rhythm even without his ears)

- likes to watch anime in his free time (his artstyle is canonically anime-like so I think he'd like anime too- idk which series he'd like though)

- forced himself to learn how to prepare food during the years of not living on FFM (it's at least implied that post-resurrection he was absent from the mountain for some time and only came back there sometime before season 4); eventually picked up a more varied diet bc he couldn't afford to be picky and only eat fruits like he used to

- much more likely to get sick than Wukong due to him being more "mortal"

- his clones overall have distinct personalities to them, but Rumble and Savage gradually developed more than the rest and gained their own personalities and thoughts overtime (they just happen to look like shadow copies of Macaque) (though maybe they chose to shapeshift at some point and changed their own looks to suit their preferences)

- optional/limbo headcanon (a.k.a. one i like but not fully sure about): self-enforced (and a pretty bad) habit of covering/hiding injuries out of his need for independence (and possible trust issues)

- struggles with sleeping after all the things that happened since season 3 (and the events of S5 indirectly made his insomnia worse)

- optional/limbo headcanon 2: typically a confident person but his insecurities get to him during particularly bad days, he's often very quiet and prefers to hide under blankets during those times

- he usually goes through the day with his sensitive hearing just fine but can still get overstimulated in some cases

- would probably have a massive playlist of songs he likes if he knew how to use music apps

- usually prefers practical clothing, but he does like to wear accessories (scarves, bracelets, necklaces, etc.) - Wukong gifted Macaque a few paintings during the time they were still close and Macaque has kept them to this day (like Wukong, he can't convince himself to get rid of them because they're still precious to him, no matter how bad their current relationship is)

Ok, I have some thoughts on the ending of dungeon meshi that I'd like to share, so major spoiler warnings ahead for the end of the manga.

Specifically, I have some thoughts on the Winged Lion's curse, and that I actually don't think it is a curse - at least not a literal, intentional, "I am cursing you" type curse. I don't think the Winged Lion came up with a customized ironic curse for Laios specifically, and cursed him as its final act before disappearing.

Consider the two components of the curse as it is generally discussed in the fandom. The first is that Laios always feels hungry/never feels full or totally satisfied, and the second is that monsters are afraid of him and avoid him. I'll start with the first part.

When we see the backstory of the Winged Lion/the Demon, we learn that it essentially gained consciousness by discovering desire/hunger and developing an appetite. This happened because it ate the desires of other creatures, first small ones like bugs, and eventually worked its way up to humans. Once this appetite exists, it only grows and requires more and more to feel sated but the satisfaction never lasts long. We see that the Winged Lion is disappointed after finally eating Thistle's desires (which are particularly complex and have been marinating for a thousand years) and then is hungry again pretty much immediately.

I think, when Laios ate the Demon's desires, he became the only other conscious being to have consumed desires and therefore developed the same appetite for them that the Demon had developed millennia ago. Laios even says while he is eating it that the craving for more could drive you to do just about anything. When Laios turns human again, the appetite remains, but he no longer has the physiology to be able to consume desires. (Remember that the ability to do so was something he specifically stipulated in his description of the perfect monster). Therefore he has an insatiable appetite for something that he physically can't consume, and this manifests as a constant feeling of hunger. It's not something the Winged Lion chose to do to him, it's just what happens when a conscious being eats desires - they always want more, forever.

This is so tragic and poetic to me because in doing this, Laios dooms himself to a lifetime of discomfort, but saves the rest of humanity and also saves the Winged Lion in a way. The world is a much safer place if a hunger like that is felt by a mortal human who can't act on it, than by an immortal eldritch god-being with immense power. And the Demon can go back to being a chill elemental force rather than a conscious being that's always insatiably hungry.

Moving on to the next part of the curse: Monsters being afraid of Laios and avoiding him. The first thing to note about this is that it's only very briefly mentioned in the epilogue, and Laios apparently thought that this is what the curse was, but we don't have much to go off of. From the information we do get, though, there's another explanation that makes sense to me. Consider all of the information about monster behavior that we learn from the very beginning of the story. The rules are straightforward, it's eat or be eaten, and monsters are just animals at the end of the day. They are trying to survive, and they will avoid a bigger, stronger monster. That's what keeps the ecosystem of the Dungeon in check. I think the monsters are just continuing to interpret Laios as the biggest, strongest monster, since that's what he was at one point and he still wears its skin. It isn't something the Winged Lion did to him on purpose as a final curse - it was a natural consequence of Laios's choice to become the strongest monster, that other monsters would avoid him.

Finally, you might be asking, if there is no intentional curse then what did the Winged Lion mean when he told Laios his greatest wish will never come true now? We know that Laios thinks this means Falin won't be revived, but obviously they do successfully save her, and the Winged Lion actually sort of helps her to be saved, by telling her which way to go after she consumes the dragon.

I think the Winged Lion thinks that Laios's greatest desire is to live as a monster, something that is only possible through the power that comes with being the Dungeon Lord. It's a straightforward logic: no more Demon means no more Dungeon Lords, which means Laios can't have his perfect monster body anymore. I really think it's as simple as that.

In conclusion: When the Winged Lion says "I curse you, now your greatest wish will never come true," I don't think this is like a magical witch's curse, he's just pissed off and is basically saying "Fuck you dude, getting rid of me means you can't live out your fantasy, why did you do that." The other two lasting negative things that Laios experiences are just natural consequences of the things he did.

- It was when you returned home, after seeing your husbands scream for you to stop, after leaving them behind for what you believed was the last time that you found out.

- They would no longer only be in your past because when you left you carried a piece of both of them with you.

- It started with the nausea and morning sickness that became regular. Then it was the weight gain, at first you didnt think much of it, you and your once dead beat older brother had gotten good jobs and you were able to eat better now. That was until you noticed that you were only gaining weight in your abdomen.

- You tried to simply start excersizing more but the gain didnt stop. So you planned to go to the doctor, but before you could schedule the appointment there was a knock on the front door.

- Confused you went to go see who it was and kind of froze at the sight of Isa-Bella, Boris' older sister in the doorway. Her face had a nervous smile and she held a bag in her hand.

- You were cautious when you let her in but she didn't intend to bring you back to the other world, on the contrary she came to tell you NOT to go there for several reasons.

- The first being that your husbands were sealed away once again and they had a specific amount of time before they were supposed to be released.

- The second being that... you were pregnant. The fear and horror that you felt was unmatched, you had just left both of your husbands. You had just given up the last chance you had with them not only because you were sure they would never want you back even if you did return. After all when they thought they abandoned each other they had gone crazy and tried to kill each other on sight.

- So what were you going to do with a child!? And what if they turned out to be a monkey demon!? How would you explain any of that!?

- There was one more reason that Isa-Bella was telling you to stay here. The child in your womb was poweful beyond belief and that kind of power would attrack many to try and take it. Without a mate to protect you then you'd be risking the life of yourself and your child or apparently cubS.

- Which you found out when you gave birth to them. It was too dangerous to go to the hospital. Not when you didnt know if they would be human or monkey demon.

- You nearly died of bloodloss when you gave birth but were lucky enough that Isa-Bella helped you. She helped you when you needed it with many things and was the first to hand you your cubs.

- Twins that seemed to absorb energy from both Wukong and Macaque, you weren't sure how but they were from another reality and with all the things you've seen so far this was far from the strangest. Your precious little Bao and Tao~

Now I did get some opinions on this before I posted it so I will be adding those now. The one who helped me was. @miifu666

- The reason that reader did not conclude that she was pregnant for was because she thought she was just getting bloated from like the food she was eating. She didn’t think she was pregnant.

- She also had a cryptic pregnancy where she didn’t grow that much.

- This is because the cubs were instinctually, trying to protect her and themselves. Normally cubs like them would have two parental figures that they’re able to sense around them. at this point in time, they only have one because of that a natural instinct with in them was trying to stay hidden and keep them safe.

- And it worked perfectly, so perfectly that their mother didn’t even realize they existed.

- another small note that I have not mentioned was that when they turned five they actually go back to the JTTW world~ I’ll also say about that for now though hehe~

I ended up rewatching Sonic 3, and even though I knew it was coming long before I saw it the first time, it’s really noticeable just how much Gerald was using Robotnik and Shadow from the start. Especially in the case of Robotnik because Gerald only responds to him in order to gain his trust, but when it comes to the plan, he ignores certain gestures (like the attempt at the chest bump or high fives). And while Gerald being insulting to Robotnik BEFORE the reveal isn’t surprising and could be just chalked up to ‘he’s his grandpa,’ he was obviously really needing to get his plan to work and didn’t care if feelings were hurt.

Also that moment where Robotnik shoves Gerald into the lasers, even when he wasn’t entirely sure if the suits would work? I think that’s what partly solidified the ‘your no Maria’ statement later. Because Maria would have NEVER done that to a loved one. There might be some slight similarities between the two cousins, but ultimately Maria was the better grandkid in Gerald’s eyes. Would things have been different if he was in Robotnik’s life at a young age or Maria never died? Who knows.

And yeah, there’s how Gerald uses and manipulates Shadow. In a way Shadow is also his grandkid, but Gerald uses Shadow’s grief to manipulate him, and it’s easy because for one thing Shadow probably looked up to him as a parental figure the same way he likely did in the games. Meanwhile Shadow has to put up with Gerald’s manipulations of Robotnik, knowing he’s just using him. I can only imagine Shadow not being impressed that THIS guy is Maria’s cousin.

(I’d go on about Gerald manipulating Shadow, but I’m sure someone already did an analysis about this.)

So that makes Robotnik and Shadow’s interaction towards the end a bit more meaningful-the realization that they are being used, and that they ultimately don’t WANT to destroy Earth, and the willingness to perform a self-sacrifice to protect it (even if it’s for varying reasons.) Robotnik ISN’T Maria, but he is similar to her in the ways that matter most and does NOT need to be second fiddle to her. Shadow doesn’t HAVE to listen to someone if he doubts that what they want goes against what is right. And in the end, the last people on their minds are the ones who genuinely cared about them and who looked out for them.

Brief Personality:

The Queen is a rude and arrogant, person? Thing? Whatever she is, she seems to look down on others and always thinks of herself as being higher than others unless shown otherwise. She usually doesn’t care about others as it’s not in her nature as she sees everyone below her as pawns just to be toyed with or used to settle her affairs.

Most would want to avoid her as she doesn’t converse much with people unless seen as worthy enough instead, she usually deflects any conversation but kills off the person if agitated. She sees most conversations to be useless to her unless given enough reason to entrust said person or has commanded the person to do so.

In her mind, she sees everything as something to be ruled over by herself and will do anything to have “order.” This usually causes big outbreaks of fights between her “troops” and the people of the area.

Brief Backstory:

Think of the way you might think about bugs or insects in a disgusting or horrifying way. That is where The Queen stems from. She has been lying in wait as she never had a physical form, but with a random discovery, she was able to break those chains.

It was never easy for her in the start when it all began, most of her “vessels” would bubble and explode sometimes spewing out bug parts alongside everything else within them. As time went on though she was able to gain more control over the vessels but always seemed to get cut off at some point, this usually left the vessels with insect or bug-like changes, and they always seemed inaccessible afterward.

The thing with her taking over these “vessels” is that She always seemed to wake up in the same looking place, a cell, it was like she was being contained but for what reason? She usually heard a voice but ignored it as she was more interested in her newfound physical powers, this seemed to cause her control to end abruptly. As this constantly happened her anger grew and festered as so did her old “vessels....” (story continues alongside Fox’s story)

ngl i think its so important how the metaphor cast feels like a found family both in comparison to atlus’s/studio zero’s backlog and the general jrpg landscape

repeat after me: metaphor is not a megami tensei game.

this being said, there was definitely some influence because of the devs working on it, though this is due to the gaming landscape. save for indie titles, you’d be hard pressed to find a studio, especially one owned by a big company, to even be given the chance to make a new ip. atlus in particular has a history of financial flops, which is actually why the sega merger is so important. without sega, no matter how successful persona got, they would have died out in the 2000s/early 2010s. this is also why they lean on persona a lot more. of course, persona isn’t the only influence behind metaphor despite the big names having worked on modernsona, as some of its dna draws from traditional fantasy rpg tropes and digital devil saga. however, this has influenced how the game was approached on several levels, as diverting too much could have caused the game to flop. metaphor hinged most of its success based on studio recognition and marketing, and considering how persona is atlus’s cash cow, it needed to take every advantage it could get.

metaphor can definitively be best described as experiencing some first game syndrome pains + development hell complications, but in general, its plot and especially character dynamic writing seems to have been an exercise for the studio they couldn’t get while sticking to persona. no matter how you feel about the series, there’s no denying that, particularly with p3 onwards, it became a very mainstream-influenced anime rpg, filled with tropes and fanservice galore. only issue is how this alienates potential players. everything wrong with persona’s team writing is one reflected throughout the genre because it was made to fit that genre.

the anime rpg market is over saturated, the fandom reputation didn’t help, and to be honest, like many jrpgs in general, the party relationship falls into the trap of having minimal group chemistry outside of a shared goal, leaving them to not truly feel like a collective group of friends once the big bad goes down, especially if there’s a punching bag. as such, there seems to be plenty of reevaluation of how topics and characters are handled in order to attract a new player base turned off from the genre.

and that’s probably why i love the approach to metaphor’s main cast the most. while all end up having a shared goal aka we need to kill that fucking twink, they’re really initially brought together because they’re societal outcasts one way or another, then grow to like each other overtime due to exposure breaking down several barriers.

the biggest example for me is how heismay begins to shut down his perception of paripus after the eht ria arc, as its the first time he hears about what was actually going on the day his son was killed—there was an uprising from a tribe often forced into slavery and becoming lab rats, and unfortunately, an innocent bystander got caught up in it.

his relationship with basilio is really interesting in that regard tbh. there’s a growing respect once he and fidelio decide to help them out in defending other innocent kids caught up in a mess, and i think seeing him lose a loved one really put into perspective paripus aren’t inherently violent. sure, the magnus brothers were on louis’s side because at least fidelio believed might makes right, but having the courage to not abandon morals just to people please? takes a lot of guts.

that’s really where that respect starts to be gained even if it isn’t obvious. by the time the final day rolls around and they help hold the line? heismay actually being nice to basilio and even saving his life feels earned.

junah’s also really important. while initially from a shitty place and not holding sanctist beliefs or at least the extreme parts of it, given how she gets taken into a powerful family, finds success really easily despite her tribe, plus a lot of special treatment from every major group really gives her that unintentional superiority complex. she only goes along with will because they’re both from the resistance, initially treats him like an assistant, and one of the first things she says on the runner is denouncing how it isn’t up to her standards.

it’s another quiet background development in that it’s subtle, but she does end up challenging her worldview upon meeting eupha. being raised in an entirely different culture only to start seeing parallels in terms of faith being warped, causing unnecessary loss of life? that’s why she came to the conclusion she wants to help. this isn’t mentioning the follower ranks, furthering that understanding of how not everyone gets the same treatment as her because of things out of their control.

also noticed how everyone loses someone close and how at least one team member fills that same gap. extra bonus points for gallica because what’s this? a navi character that isn’t beating up on a single character and even then comes from a place of caring, praising those when they deserve it and showing worry when things don’t go as planned?

not a lot of games have this close knit relationship gained, usually only sticking to a couple characters liking one another and everyone liking the protagonist. it’s refreshing. the writing team deserves so many kudos for it it’s insane.

Fluff 2: Character A helps Character B with their hair/makeup/outfit

Neve entered the tailor’s shop quietly, grateful that the plush rug on the floor was cushioning her steps. It had been a week since she’d seen Rook last, longer than they’d ever intentionally not seen each other since they’d met, but she’d gotten his invitation.

And, she hadn’t been inclined to turn it down in any case, but she was definitely not missing him in formal wear.

“What, have you gained weight?” A woman’s voice asked snidely.

“Hey, I eat real food now, not rations,” Rook defended himself, sounding a mixture of frustrated and amused. “Besides, I’m thirty-one, and I’m pretty sure I haven’t worn these since I was, what Livvy’s age?”

“I think he’s more muscular now, too,” another woman mused. ‘Livvy,’ maybe.

“We only needed to let it out a little.” The genteel voice probably belonged to the tailor himself. “Hardly much alteration at all. I almost feel bad charging for it.”

“Don’t,” Rook assured him, at the same time the snide voice put in, “then why charge for it?”

There was a tense silence, palpable even from the entry room where Neve had hidden herself, before she heard the tailor sputter his apologies and excuse himself.

“And what about your hair?” The snide voice continued, and it sounded like ‘Livvy’ sighed as Neve crept closer.

“His hair is fine, Sabine, let him be.”

A petulant foot stomp, “He’s already embarrassed this family enough. If he’s using our invitation…”

Anger, hot and bright, burned beneath Neve’s skin. She’d heard enough. She let herself into the next room, where two women looked ready for verbal battle, and between them the object of their fight.

Even if he didn’t need saving, seeing him in that was worth the trip, Neve decided.

“Well, aren’t you dressed for trouble?” She observed, a small smirk on her lips.

Three faces - angry, surprised, and thrilled in turn - turned her way.

“Neve!” Rook nearly tripped over himself as he all but ran over. He met her eyes in silent question, and at her small nod, kissed her soundly and they laughed against each other at the scandalized gasp behind him.

“Sabine, Livinia, could we, ah, have a minute?” He asked, and the two women made their way towards the entry room, Sabine glaring at Neve all the way.

Altus mages didn’t have the market completely cornered on snobbery, it seemed.

Once they were out of sight and earshot, he leaned in to kiss her again, warm fingers against her cheek and a strong arm around her waist. “You’re my hero,” he muttered, and she laughed.

“Wasn’t I already?”

Regret clear in his eyes, he stepped back. “So…what do you think?” Rook asked, gesturing to his formal wear. Amused, Neve twirled her finger, and, laughing, he complied.

“I think…it’s a good thing I came. Who knows what trouble you’d end up in, otherwise?” She teased him. He looked good, though he was somehow already rumpled.

Sure. Somehow.

Neve stepped closer, and straightened his collar and the cuffs of his outer tunic and the rearranged the longer hair atop his head into some semblance of order. “Looking good, Trouble.”

He grinned, eyes alight with mischief. “Then let’s go ruin a fancy party.”

Usually, Nat knows how to keep her composure. She's had enough practice at it, whether it was her mother ranting and raving at Nat for something ridiculous and out of her control; or any of commanding officers she's had, pushing harder, demanding more, and being cruel just so they can be. She's sat through harsh criticisms, words screamed in her face while barely flinching; the muscles in her jaw still and slack.

She cringes now. It stings; it's barely a step up from being told that, she herself, is hysterical. But Bradley quiets, and Nat lets him take a moment to gain some composure. As much as she'd like to interrupt, she doesn't.

Though, as Bradley continues, his words calmer, yet still harsh, Nat wishes she had stopped him. She wishes she had ended this conversation all together; she wishes she hadn't suggested that they even discuss their drunken mistake. They should have parted ways in the hotel room. At least then, she would've avoided this - Bradley's terrible but true assessment of their relationship, his quiet sob, and his patchy, red skin.

Nat blinks hard, trying to avoid tears of her own. Maybe, she should cry. She should let the tears fall, but both of them in tears won't solve the issue at hand.

"You -" Despite her determination to not cry, her voice comes out strangled. Nat has to take a breath. "You," she repeats, wrapping her fingers tight around the coffee mug to keep from reaching out to take Bradley's hand. "Are not an easy person to know." A small hiccup; Nat can do nothing to stop it. "You're away more than you're home; half the time I don't even know where you are."

She looks away now, hating that her sweeping gaze makes her too aware of the few other patrons and waiters dotted around the space. It doesn't matter that they are careful enough not to stare, Bradley and Nat have their attention, their curiosity.

"I keep telling myself the little pieces I get of you are enough," Nat admits, still not looking at Bradley. She can barely get the words out. She won't risk her progress, even if this is the sort of thing you should say face-to-face. "I can rationalize why you never said anything about Mav or your dad. But I can't do this. I can't continue existing in your orbit. It's either we try marriage or we go back to strangers who only ever work together."

"none of the same interests?" he falls into a game of parroting, because his mind draws up a blank on any other sort of reply. each thing that she says to him shakes him blank like an etch-a-sketch in the making. just as soon as he thinks he has something in reply, she's shaking him again.

"i'm not the one not baring his soul-" he leans in closer to the table to look her dead on. "you drive me fucking crazy. you-" he means it better than it comes out. he sucks in a breath, eyes going up towards the ceiling for the momentary reprieve. his face burns, "i am in love with you." what's the point in saying anything but that? the weight off his chest isn't quantifiable, but it's not insignificant. shrugging, his chin lowers back down so he can actually look at her again.

"so, no i can't talk about whether we want to get, fucking cats or dogs on our checks or what colors we're going to paint the walls. you have no idea know how many times i have i tried to have this conversation with you-- or maybe you do!" there's a chuckle, but it's not one that says he's light hearted, or amused. it's resigned, and it's only some miracle that he manages to keep his voice somewhat quiet and even. "maybe you do, because you never miss a chance to remind me how utterly uninterested you are in me."

screw not making a scene, because the energy to yell finds him anew. he doesn't want to yell at her. well not entirely. it's his feelings that simply feel loud, and he thinks it's only right he matches them. it takes everything in him not to.

he raises his hands, palms up as he gestures with some restraint, "we talk, we don't talk. you spend the night, we're cooking together in the mornings. you call me up after a late night because you want to see me. you tell me at the hard deck that you've had too much of me." that one was hard to get over. "you're pissed at me for marrying you," he wants to point out that he doesn't remember that either, that she's not the only one who is reeling, "and now, you're talking about staying married. i don't know what you want. i don't know who i am to you, because we're not just fucking. let's at least be honest with each other. we haven't been just fucking since before we flew together." one hand runs through his hair. he feels the sweat running down his neck.

"if all of that hasn't been obvious, now you know: i love you, and i have to live with that, and it fucking kills me that no-" his head shakes and for the first time in all his words, a desperate breath, an empty silent sob, takes over when he wants to speak, "i don't want to stay married to you. i can't stay married to you. this isn't logistics and convenience for me." his voice pitches, and the tears return.
