Qiu Lin character/enneagram analysis

I did have every intention of making this write up, sorry it took so long!! Unfortunately a lot of my hard ““evidence”” comes from beta and other patreon exclusive content, but I can absolutely write a more generalized and theoretical response about Qiu’s enneagram. And I literally just replayed the prologue yesterday so it is freshhh.

(I also love the enneagram, I prefer it over MBTI. Great minds think alike ;) )

And if you’re a newbie to the enneagram, don’t worry! I’ll be thorough with my explanations, so you should be able to follow along. Verrrrrry thorough hahahhaah. This post is literally over 2k words.

But! Just think about this as a general character analysis through the lense of the enneagram. It’ll be at least kind of interesting and fun, I promiseeee 😉🤞

So, anyway, let’s get started then.

I typed Qiu as a 3w2 sx/so

So what does this mean?

I believe that Qiu is an enneagram 3 with a 2 wing. The instinctual variants for their enneagram being sx and so. I’ll explain what that all means later on, but we’ll start with just about the basic description of the enneagram.

Enneagram 3 Description

The Enneagram is a personality theory that aims to describe the most vulnerable parts of ourselves, our hopes, our fears, our motivations, and potentially our trauma. It’s how we see the world and make sense of our emotions.

So then, what does it mean to be an enneagram 3?

Well, 3s in their most basic form, can be understood this way:

The enneagram 3 is defined by their need to differentiate themselves from other people through their accomplishments and can appear incredibly ambitious and goal oriented. 3s like to keep themselves busy, and their schedules are usually jam-packed with things to do. They’re very charismatic and acutely aware of the correct polite conduct. They make it a point to make good first impressions. 3s do not believe that they are inherently worthy of being loved, however, and that being loved comes as a result of what they can achieve. 3s fear their own irrelevancy, and are driven by a need for attention and admiration.

I’m sure you noticed that some of that description does fit Qiu! However, there’s a lot that *doesn’t* which probably stood out, and needs to addressed.

Like, what’s this about being super goal-oriented, ambitious, and needing to be successful? Nothing about Qiu, from what we’ve seen, proves that to be true about them.

Those of you who know the enneagram may even be thinking, “well, what about enneagram 2? They’re also people oriented, want to be liked and appreciated, and then we don’t have to worry about the fact that Qiu doesn’t seem necessarily ambitious or goal-oriented on being successful.”

Well, I kinda mislead you there. Because I think Qiu is very ambitious and goal-oriented, just not in the way we traditionally think about these concepts. Usually we think a person with these traits aims to someday have a high paying job, invent something new, do something genius that’ll get them celebrated worldwide or accumulate a comfortable amount of wealth. Which doesn’t sound like Qiu at all. But that’s not the only way this desire can be exhibited.

Instinctual Variants:

Thats where the instinctual variants of the enneagram come in. Instinctual variants are basically just subtypes of the enneagram, different ways in which the same enneagram can be presented. And it’s a part of enneagram that is relatively more unknown, but can actually be a huge help in figuring out which enneagram applies to you/a character. (So if you’re into enneagram at all, I recommend checking them out! Fair warning: the instinctual variants can really delve into the worst possible version of your psyche in a lot of cases, so be prepared for that. Be honest with yourself.)

Anyway, the instinctual variants are abbreviated as “sx”, “so”, and “sp”. These stand for “sexual”, “social”, and “self-preserving”, respectively.

I typed Qiu as a sexual 3. NOW CHILL cause before you come at me “sexual” doesn’t LITERALLY mean sexual, sexuality, sex, etc. I mean in some cases it can definitely be related, but it does not mean that inherently. And that’s not what I’m gonna be talking about with Qiu like at all. I don’t know why they called it that, I didn’t make it up. I just read about it and then apply it to fictional characters in my tumblr posts 😪

But anyway, the sx 3 can often times not look like a traditional 3, which would make Qiu a little difficult to type as a 3 initially. But once you get into the description of the sx 3, it starts to become more clear.

Sx 3s aren’t so much focused on making achievements in the real world so much as they are on pleasing others and creating an appealing image around themselves. They extract feelings of accomplishment from the happiness and success of the people around themselves. Unlike other 3s, sx 3s aim to connect to others mentally through supporting them. They expend much of their energy for the sake of other people, and they’re hardworking and ambitious in this way. They don’t necessarily feel the need for tangible achievement like other 3s. They love, admiration, and desire of others is enough for them. They are unconventional achievers in this way. Sexual 3s have a very community driven mentality, where they’re always looking out for the greater good of the whole team.

They can also often times feel the need to play into the role of an easily digestible feminine or masculine image, depending on how they were assigned at birth 😳 Whichhhh I want to yank a quote from the beta moment “fancy fun” for this so bad. But you’re just gonna have to guess what I’m talking about if you played it. And if you haven’t, I’m sorry 😔‼️ but I do feel like this point can be somewhat inferred from the demo, if only abstract based on how Qiu conducts themself.

Now, the enneagram 2’s flavor of wanting to be “likeable” isn’t necessarily rooted in being admired and looked up to. In a lot of ways, it’s the opposite. The enneagram 2 wants to be useful and needed by others. Qiu may feel like they are useful and that they are needed, but that’s not necessarily what they’re looking for. Qiu at the end of the day just wants for people think they’re cool and kind and the best friend ever. Which is why I don’t think they are a 2, they simply have a 2 wing. (The wing just being another thing that indicates what way the enneagram presents itself).

So yeah, I think sx 3 is the perfect fit for Qiu. Because while they don’t necessarily need to be revered for any personal accomplishments, (only rarely taking the opportunity to brag, and if they do it’s played off more or less as a joke) they do however have this intense need to be liked as a person and looked up to for that reason.

Childhood Wound:

Another way we can infer somebody’s enneagram would be based on their “childhood wound.” In enneagram, this would be the root of where this person’s enneagram would come from. Meaning yes, a person’s enneagram is established during their childhood years and does not change.

The childhood wound of the enneagram 3 is as follows:

Based on some information given in the QnAs on patreon, we can infer that this is true of Qiu’s childhood. But I also believe it can be inferred by public content as well.

Based on how Qiu conducts themself, I don’t think kids in Golden Grove ever really appreciated Qiu for being Qiu. People liked them because they were expending themselves for the sake of others, trying their best to include everybody and putting on this “act” of being cool about everything. They actively minimize their own needs/boundaries while being hyper aware of everyone else’s. This made them likable, which made them popular, which made them a high commodity to their classmates.

We also kind of get this in the explanation for Baxter’s crush on Qiu. Baxter could have liked Qiu genuinely, I’m not discounting that at all, after all he was one of their closest friends in childhood. However, the way he goes about rationalizing it to himself is this:

“You’re popular, so why shouldn’t I like you.” And it’s safe to assume a lot of other people felt the same way about Qiu, whether it be related to a crush or completely platonically. It was this sort of self fulfilling prophecy where Qiu tried their best to live up to the expectations of others, which made them even more desirable to people, which made them feel they had to become subservient to these expectations, which made people want them all the more. And in a way, they themselves kinda wanted that. They actively seek out that kind of attention and feel fulfilled when it’s received. But not to this extreme of a point, as we can see in Step 2.

What about Step 2?!:

That brings us to one glaring problem some may already be considering. Qiu’s personality in Step 2. It seems to have taken a complete 180 from how they were in Step 1.

In Step 2, the last thing Qiu wants is attention or to be around people at all. They could seemingly care less if they’re liked which can be observed in how they treat Tamarack’s concerns about their litter in the current Step 2 preview. They straight up disregard her feelings completely, and not politely. Qiu really just wants to hide away from it all and not be bothered. And if the enneagram is developed during childhood and then never changes, wouldn’t it be better to find something that also encompasses that side of them? Maybe they’re not a 3, or even a 2!

Weeeeeell ackshually ☝️🤓, I think enneagram 3 is still very applicable to Step 2 Qiu, but there’s not much I can say about that *definitively* at the moment.

However, we do have this description of Step 3 Qiu to work off of:

So obviously, Qiu’s presentation in Step 2 isn’t all that it seems. Qiu is actively *going against* their true nature during Step 2 for one reason or another. My best guess would have to be that they feel they previously let their identity rely too heavily on the needs of the people around them, and that notion freaks them out. So even if, in a way, their true identity DOES revolve around what they can be for others, they also want to make sure there’s a real, individual, person in there somewhere. Maybe in a twisted and fucked up way you can suggest that it is in fact because our culture heavily celebrates and looks up to that kind of individuality. Like, we as a society can consider it an admirable quality to be an outcast for the things that make us unique. That could potentially be added motivation. But thatssssssss really pushing it kind of and I’m talking out of my ass a little bit. So I’ll leave it there. 🥱

Either way, we can conclude that in Step 2 Qiu is not at all a “completely different person,” I don’t really think that’s even possible, and tbh I hope people don’t believe that about them. But I do think that they are actively *trying* to be. Which is sooooo 3, in a way (I sound like an astrology girl heheh >:3) But yeah, as a young teen, you think you know you want a lot of things. And then when you grow up, you realize that’s not what you actually wanted in the first place.

Side tangent, this is also why I loveee the idea of playing the game with jealousy/envy turned on for Qiu. I just feel like it’s so natural to their arc, but that’s just my own personal interpretation/preference.

But anyway, that’s how I came to my conclusion, Qiu is an enneagram 3w2!

Conclusion:

Let me once again reiterate that this is literally pseudoscience, so there isn’t an end all be all. You could totally think I was wrong and have your own ideas, and we could all totally be wrong and right and the same time together. I just do this stuff for fun, cause I think it’s cool and interesting and helps me better understand both my favorite characters in fiction and the viewpoints of people completely different from me ^_^

If you read this, I honestly CANNOT thank you enough, seriously. Because wow this post was crazy and long and insane and insanely crazy long. And I feel like I’m really bad and disorganized when it comes to explaining things. But I appreciate it if you did take an interest! I hope you were entertained and learned something new.

Qiu was specifically requested, and this post is long enough as it is. And that’s without all the beta and patreon stuff, which then we could be here for hours getting into the nitty gritty details. But anyway, I would love to do a separate analysis on Tamarack’s enneagram next. Though spoiler alert, her’s will be a lot moreeeee theoretical and hard to explain T~T I’m sure that would be super fun for me to attempt though HAHA. So if you’d be interested in that, let me know! Dragon Age: The Veilguard

There's some post-game thoughts I can mark as spoiler ones. Read only if you finished the game.

I love the game. Really. The grand finale was magnificent, the main plot idea is painfully touching and I adore the heavy weight of sorrow I bear after I finished the game. The best kind of bittersweet grief of possible.

However it doesn't mean the game is flawless. There's some stuff I didn't get at all.

Why there's no option to ask Solas about the Forgotten Ones? Like, hello, you have an encyclopedia of elven lore in your head, can't you ask a few optional questions about weird ancient guy you've met during the journey? Nadas Dirthalen? (Or it's because da5 is going to be about new dwarven and/or qunari lore and Forgotten Ones/Executors?)

You also can't say anything about the murals.. which is kinda strange. Why didn't Rook comment those mind-blowing revelations? For Harding, at least?

Evanuris. Solas' story is beautifully written, Mythal' story was also revealed more than before (even if she's in all 4 games) so we get to know her better. But Elgar'nan and Ghilan'nain? Fine, forget other evanuris.. but the spectacular duo? Spirits and demons are kinda the same, like two sides of a coin. Solas is Wisdom and Pride, Mythal is Benevolence and Retribution (as Morrigan said). Elgar'nan and Ghilan'nain are just.. bad? They're blighted and corrupted now but what about the past? Where's the duality of their personalities? No chance for redemption now because they don't want or need it, I get the idea, but the story itself? I wish there would be more about them. We do have something on Ghilan'nain tho, like: she created hallas but can't create them any longer and she has a full control over the Blight as if it's modeling clay (+ some Bellara' thoughts on a matter of "navigation" and "healing" and path Ghilan'nain chose for the People). But Elgar'nan? He likes tyranny. And he still had his hair. Uhm.. ┐⁠(⁠ ⁠∵⁠ ⁠)⁠┌

Romances. Can't say much because I didn't try all of them but Neve's and Lucanis'.. uhm. It doesn't feel like a written romance, y'know? Just a bonus lines so you doesn't have to feel lonely or whatever. Characters are on their own and don't have connection with Rook till the very end. There's no impact and Rook is, ironically, just an enjoyable side benefit™ but nothing more. Comparing to datv romance situation solavellan romance is hot as hell and full of content. And it says a lot.

Inquisitor. I do like how their absence was explained... yet Lavellan was robbed. I don't want to see a cringe Fade therapy session with Solas telling his tragic lovestory to a random stranger (Rook) and whining about just how much he misses his gorgeous wife (and I'm solavellan). But adding a few tiny details? The bare minimum: take the dai tarot card and place it on the wall in a music room. That already could've been much better. (mods mods mods 🤞🤞🤞).

Dialogue timing and triggers. I suspect dialogues are cool but I can't know for sure. In my first playthrough I didn't even know Davrin and Lucanis are not a big fans of each other before the Weisshaupt quest because I didn't hear it. DATV locations are much smaller than it was in DAI, so you just don't get the chance to hear those dialogues unless you find a trigger point and just stay there waiting to play all lines.

Some of that is not a tragedy and, theoretically, could be improved by magnificent people creating mods. But sometimes datv seems kinda unfinished like there's a missing puzzle pieces as if content was cut out with no replacement.

Despite some questionable moments and a bit of criticism I love this game regardless. It's dark and atmospheric, absolutely beautiful and mesmerizing. And analysis of Regret? Choices and consequences, acceptance, struggling, desperation, guilt..? The work Bioware did deserves to be highly appreciated. The final left me in tears, sobbing and grieving, and heartbroken - that's all I ever wanted of Dragon Age 💜

So I was rereading basically every work you’ve written,, cause it’s my therapy,, and I saw that you made a post about magical girl y/n and that Justice League movie “Crisis on two earths” I was wondering what that would be like?

In an other universe where all the heroes are evil is the magical girl also evil? (<<<evil magical girls 😻)

I thought about how y/n is like on neutral grounds but leans towards the “good side” more. So is “evil” y/n the same she just leans towards the “bad side” more?

And I don’t know about you but I’d love to see others reaction to a y/n who is aggressive or is just wearing black,, lol.

A potential villain y/n as just been a brain rot for the past couple of decades.

But to answer your question it actually gets pretty interesting with crisis on two earths because something impossible happens. Cause, everyone in that universe has a parallel version of them. All of them for some reason except y/n.

It’s puzzling for them along with the other characters within the films because that shouldn’t be statistically possible.In every universe almost no matter the outcome there should be a version of you. Theoretically as you said an alternate version of y/n should be someone who maybe leans more towards the side of bad but retains some element of neutrality to them.

Something along the lines of maybe an informant or even some sort of back alley doctor of sorts. But there’s nothing.

While y/n knows that they can be the only magical girl (due to the fact Rigel can only pick one vassal per dimension/universe there should be a different version of herself. One she was actually quite excited to meet even if they were evil because she wanted to know if this life had been any different from her own.

But nothing

Not even Rigel seems to know why there is no different version of her. But to be fair it brings up another question for Rigel, what about the other girls? They’d never sought out to try and find any sort of alternate version of the other girls due to the guilt. But it now brings up the question that no matter the universe they had never seen a dopple.

But in that regard it catches the interest of the alternate justice league from this flipped world. Especially Owlman.

The entirety of the film is about his existential crisis that nothing matters because everything that could have possibly been done and said by you has been done before in a different universe. But here’s seemingly an outlier to this very idea, something that seemingly goes against multiversal theory in the form of a young girl of all things.

One that is moldable and malleable, something that in his eyes the entire multiverse deemed as important and literally one of a kind.

Someone with more power at her fingers tips than she could ever imagine with literal infinite potential.

Someone that could potentially shift any scale if she so deemed.

Someone they need on their side.

Yeah….his plan becomes less destroying every universe into first trying to manipulate y/n which failed and then into aight we doing this by force then.

Mind controlled y/n which I’ll call evil y/n for now is someone like you said that’s aggressive and most of all bitter. It kinda takes all of y/n stored away anger towards a society that left them to rot as well as the fact that they had to literally scrape by half the time and almost no one noticed nor cared. It kinda cuts off her memory at a certain point, the part where things got better for her, that she found a home and people who do care. As cliche as it is it’s that which is used to snap her out of it along with the general mental fog she has when not just focusing on her anger.

But anyway evil y/n is wholeheartedly destructive, using everything she can to essentially just destroy. Using that enhanced strength to good use, and while she can’t use her magical weapon on things that aren’t Shadowmites who’s to say she can’t find an actual weapon to do the job instead lol.

I feel like as well evil y/n would have a bit of not only a god complex but also simultaneously a lot of self-loathing. She uses being the only magical girl in the multiverse and being the only one to kill Shadowmites as a point of ultimate power, seeing it as things people should worship them for. But at the same time she hates herself, she so lonely and mad at everyone including herself.

Because why did the world abandon her? Why did it hate a little girl who dared to dream about helping people just like the girls in her shows?

Why did her parents leave her before she could even remember them? Was she not good enough? Is she good enough now for them?

Why did that little weasel who keeps telling her to “remember” choose her? Why did it place such a burden on her shoulders? Was it cause she’s expendable?

And lastly why does it tear her apart seeing people look at her in fear? Why does it hurt when those heroes go flying through walls when she hits them? Why do her eyes water when theirs do as well?

Her outfits would definitely be the typical evil magical girl wear black type of thing but I feel like hers would almost look in a way godly and ethereal. But then become more and more disheveled and dark as she mentally cracks more and more.

The Hidden Moon starring Kin Thanachai and David Matthew Roberts will release its official trailer on 11 June 2024.

If the name seems familiar - it's the one were they shot a pilot trailer with entirely different actors and only THEN did the official casting for it (yes, I'm still a bit miffed about that).

The story is based on a novel by Violet Rain who also wrote I Feel You Linger in the Air so theoretically it should be absolutely amazing. 🤞

Lost a lot of hope this episode for a sympathetic Kipperlilly/ratgrinders track by the ending 😔 (still love them though). What are your thoughts about how the ending for them is gonna look?

I WISH for a sympathetic ending, I'm holding out hope 🤞. At the very least I hope none of them end up dead. They don't have to be immediately redeemed or forgiven, just as long as there's HOPE for them to eventually grow and change.

Speaking genuinely, I think it all depends on how much grace the Bad Kids are willing to extend in that moment. I don't doubt for a second that Mary Ann is safe because the Bad Kids genuinely like her lmao. Oisin might not be lmao because Adaine is vindictive with the proven ability to Punch people to death (as is her right). Ruben just (theoretically) saw Wanda Childa die in front of him, that may be enough ammunition for them to use to sway him to their side. Kipperlilly is so sunk-cost coded, I'm expecting most for her to go down swinging.

I think all the Rat Grinders still have the Potential to be swayed and give up the fight, all of them are still just Scared and in too deep. It'll just depend on if the Bad Kids can successfully persuade them.

Hi Jam. Any news as to why we haven't had a night address the last two days? I'd like to believe that they're having a bit of family time around Halloween 🤞. But one worries.

No news, at least I haven't seen any.

Theoretically, we got a night address yesterday, just as a voice-over. But yeah, I know what you mean. 🤗

Two days ago I didn't think much of it because he was just returning from travelling and had several big events. In rare cases, we get no video when this happens. But yesterday, "just" the voice-over. Also, there are no office pics or any other sign (besides social media posts).

Well, let's try not to worry too much.

I faintly remember him mentioning that there is lots of work with international partners right now. They prepare the second Peace Summit. Add the incredible difficult and worrying situation at the front + the beginning winter and all the problems that come with it. The worries about the President election.

Maybe he's just super busy. Maybe things are happening he can't talk about (right now). Or, on a positive note: maybe he, indeed, had some family time. Maybe he's helping Olena right now with preparing her big conference / Summit. Or maybe he's sick, so he's just doing the absolute necessary things. Maybe box training with Maks didn't go well last time, and he has a black eye now, and they can't cover it up with makeup. 😅 Maybe he's doing frontline visits again, and in order to protect him, he became invisible until he's back in Kyiv.

a mish-mash of my thoughts about soto! story, maps, rewards, lotsa spoilers!

liked the maps are gorgeous, anet never misses with music & map design. the reuse of assets makes sense for the story (and seeing these alternate "what-ifs" of story zones is really cool), so we'll see what happens for future smaller xpacs

really liked the new cast of characters, especially gladium & r'tchikk and mabon. friendly mursaat is something i never could have predicted

the story. long bit sorry! after EoD this is my favorite xpac story (thus far). something about the idea of a wizard ascending and being basically immortal but giving up mortal connections & memories really vibes with me. its something that SOUNDS like what anyone would theoretically want but through lore and stuff we see that some of the older ascended regret it but they maybe don't remember why. mabon is a mursaat and knows what his race collectively did, but not what he participated in. livia even mentions mabon knew lazarus. anyway it's very tlt/lyctorhood to me. also i kinda like that isgarren is a bit of a dick to us. he seems like the type who bends over backwards to convince himself he's doing the right thing (by not interfering in the dragons etc.). and he has little triangle glasses what a nerd. I WANT TO KNOW MORE ABOUT WAITING SORROW. where is she. she's a kodan right? i need to know more. LOVE how they dealt with zojja both explicitly in the story and through lore books/collections. i love her so much. seeing the powered down mr sparkles made me literally cry irl tears :( anyway crossing my fingies that the new map is nayos 🤞🤞

meh two (at launch) armor sets that are identical for every weight :/

rifts as-is are kinda boring. like i get it, especially as a way to get the 10s of stacks of essences we need for legendary armor, and idk how they'd make them more interesting but im firmly ~whelmed~ with rifts

some of the masteries are also just there imo. using updrafts & leylines on flying mounts is fantastic!!!! using mastery points to be able to open slightly better chests does not excite me. there are also few excess mastery points so some of these are gonna be a grind/frustrating. hopefully the next content patch late this/yearly next year adds more.

it's nice that adventures, races (iirc), shrine guardian puzzles, and going-from-point-A-to-point-B-without-touching-the-ground made a return, there's no really true og jumping puzzles

there a few post-story collections in the wizard tower (like in aborstone post-story) but not that many? like i get why we don't build it up like arborstone bc it's already established and populated but i just wish there was more.

overall at this point i'm 7.8/10 happy with the xpac as a whole. but if maps/story/achievements of this calibre are what we get every year-ish, i'd be thrilled tbh

End of semester diaries...

As my second (and the last academic) semester comes to an end, I find myself thinking about how much useful, motivational and valuable information I was able to get from all of the classes. Honestly, I have always dreamed about being in the atmosphere of a Western (European or North American) institution, because of the flexible subject choice, practical approach, closer communication with professors, freedom of thought and many other partly romanticized factors. Luckily, the program I had chosen at George Brown College allowed me to experience all of these things and much more!  

One of the classes I was mesmerized the most with was called Strategic Relationships Marketing Seminar Series – a collection of weekly classes, where each seminar my group had a chance to learn from successful and experienced professionals, entrepreneurs and business owners. Once a week each of the speakers presented a summary of their career path, achievements and outlines, so we as students could get some insights on the theoretical material we learnt in many other classes. Moreover, after the presentation, we were supposed to work on a case study to implement the information right in the class practicing on an existing business problem or situation.  

As a result of these series, I was able to establish online and in-person connections with many people in the industry, which is extremely important in the modern professional community. I was mostly inspired by some of the amazing women and their life and career stories. This is exactly what touched me deeply and highly impacted my perception of the career options and marketing industry landscape in general. Now I see many different ways to embrace my journey as a professional: 

be a part of a big corporation, working on the execution of massive marketing campaigns; 

be a part of a small company or business, making some significant contributions and decisions; 

become an entrepreneur, using my marketing knowledge to work on my own business (by the way, I already have lots of ideas that can be developed soon🤞); 

become an entrepreneur and use my marketing knowledge to help other entrepreneurs build their businesses (consulting format or small marketing agency format). 

I am sure there are even more career options and opportunities and obviously each path from the given above involves countless niches that I as a professional can work with, which makes me very excited as I oversee my possible limitless future.  

The most important thing that I have learned from these seminars is that career success and development come with the combination of several things, such as:

foundational knowledge + experience + proactivity + networking + __ (add yours 😊)

However, the formula might be a bit different for everyone, but for me, this is very important to know that the challenge (such as graduating, getting a job, or starting a business) can be completed differently and using the combination of efforts.

To summarize my experience in building the network and finding helpful job search resources I want to thank my professor Katidja Youssouf for assigning several free-form essays that I had to write during the course. These made me start consistently posting on LinkedIn some relevant unique content, which showed my knowledge and experience as a marketer. With the help of these storytelling blog posts, I gained (and keep gaining) followers and made many useful connections on the platform. Apart from creating content, I also finally became familiar with LinkedIn as a leading social media platform for job search, networking, and career development.

As the result:

I gained 120+ followers and made 115+ connections; 

I have networked with around 15 speakers in-person and built relationships with about 5 of them.

After I started following George Brown College’s page on LinkedIn, I became aware of many more events I could visit soon to network more and participate in a good community knowledge exchange. I haven’t attended any in-person events yet, but I had a chance to participate in online webinars dedicated to job-seeking strategies, alumni successful stories, LinkedIn personal brand development, taxes, etc. Those events gave me some amazing contacts outside marketing, which widened my network a lot.

Continuing my organic onboarding on LinkedIn I was surprised that many thematic groups are providing educational content, articles, videos, and online/offline field-related events. Recently I have joined dozens of those groups, so now I scroll LinkedIn instead of Instagram reels 😊.

I was highly engaged in volunteering in my artist journey when I just came to Canada. I got my job as a Social Media Manager after volunteering as a videographer at a couple of dance events. So, I am looking forward to participating in some other events or conferences as a volunteer.

Right now my job hunting mostly includes browsing GBCareers and applying through this portal for internships and full-time jobs, but I also discovered LinkedIn and Indeed as amazing resources. So far, I would say GBCareers works best for me because there aren't hundreds of people applying through there and because employers are ready to hire from a student pull.

In a week I applied to 8 positions and got 2 interviews

However, I always try to be proactive, so after applying through the college portal I also try to connect with the company on socials and send a follow-up email.

I am still looking for my coop, but putting myself and my content out there helped me get useful contacts and even some part-time offers.

Some networking tips that I found working well for me are very simple:

Share your story with others;

Be honest about your experience;

Learn how to “sell” your skills by adapting them for each position;

Show your passion.

For those who might be lost in this ocean of unlimited opportunities, but at the same time dozens of unread emails and rejected applications, I want to wish you good luck and patience!

AND THANK YOU for your excitement omg, i've been so so pleasantly surprised at how many people recognize sxf!! my friends and i dabble in both kpop and anime but i wasn't sure how familiar with the latter stayblr is. makes me all the more hyped to get it out, like the more i write the more i'm realizing minho is painstakingly loid coded y'all are not ready for these parallels

and the anime question ... oh boy ... can of worms Opened 🪱🚨 i defo err on the side of the shonen/seinen genres (action-packed, high-intensity, noisy ass OSTs). my ride-or-dies are hunter x hunter, cowboy bebop, devilman crybaby, and code geass ft. honorable mentions for bungou stray dogs and soul eater! and ik you asked about anime but i have to mention the tokyo ghoul manga as one of my all time favorite pieces of media, just thinking about the anime gives me a rash, it deserved SO much better
