ok other unrelated theory kind of about the cataclysm (a bit less so) and also about shrike!

again a bit of a throwaway because i seem to be connecting dotted lines rather than regular ones. ill get to how the cataclysm plays into all this in a moment. NOTE: this is mostly unrelated to my previous theory. just an alternate idea.

pretty sure most of us are familiar with this scene from the glitch x trailer!!

i, personally, am firmly of the belief that this is the inside of shrike’s crystal. with the fact that he has all his stuff laid out around him in the next shot, which is usually stored inside of his crystal. also note that the waves make little crystal shapes. the clouds are also diamonds!!

ADDITIONALLY:

theres a minty green vignette surrounding the crystal in this scene from ep 4, just like the color of the sky on the island.

if this is true, that leaves leeway to guess that this place reflects shrike’s desires maybe? here are my guesses.

i looked at that scene of the island again and i kept thinking, why green???? now heres the part at which everything gets VERY stretchy.

i think maybe his species had some part in the cataclysm, and were close with the terrans. that would explain shrike’s affinity for terran culture!! ADDITIONALLY

to add to this, there could be the chance that shrike’s species name is intentionally redacted, and i think that upon becoming an endling, shrike was met with the choice to either join LAW or face some kind of drastic measure (i was thinking maybe death, but it could be something else i cant think of off the top of my head). i mean, terrans are a kill-on-sight ordeal. its possible shrike’s species met the same fate much quicker. that idea would make EXTRA sense if they really DID work with the terrans.

I don’t usually post Monkey Wrench stuff but I have NOT seen people talking about JB’s necklace despite it CLEARLY having a symbol on it that’s going to be relevant, they wouldn’t show it to us if it wasn’t.

So I reckoned that SURELY there would’ve been something matching the necklace in one of the previous episodes, and so I went looking.

And lo and behold, in episode 3, the picture of the Terran girl and her family has her wearing a spacesuit with that symbol on it.

So this was probably the symbol that the Terrans used to worship the colour green in the same way that most people in the galaxy worship the three primary colours. In this one, yellow and blue work together to create green.

And this leaves room for a lot of implications. I’m willing to bet money that JB knows quite a bit more about the Terrans than he’s let on, ESPECIALLY since he was extremely quick to take the necklace away from Shrike when he tried to look closer at the symbol (since Shrike is a former red officer, he’d probably be more likely than anyone to recognize the symbol, even in his drunk state). Like, JB tore it away from him and quickly kept on talking to distract him. He’s absolutely hiding something.

I’ve also seen the theory that perhaps the yellow and blue primaries are working against the red one, and while I don’t think it’s likely, this could be used as fuel for it. Either way, I’m very happy that my suspicions about the symbol were confirmed. I’m also reasonably sure that the girl in the portrait will come in relevant some day.

The Wintersea Republic and the Free State: Different Age lengths?

I was going to save this until my Hollowpox reread post, but I’ve hit a snag in my eternal reread and now I don’t know when I’ll share that. This is something I noticed that I didn’t fully realize before. This is specifically about post-Massacre Ages. Pre-Massacre stuff is still currently a Wild West of unknowns.

The Wintersea Republic seems to have consistently had 10-12 year Ages since it was formed. This lines up with the amount of Ages it has had and how long it’s been around for. This consistency is also how Squall establishes the “curse.”

I had always assumed that Ages were consistent among the Realm, so that Nevermoor has also been experiencing these same Age lengths for the same amount of time. This is because at the beginning of the first book we see that their Morningtides align. This is where my theory about Wundersmith deaths or Wunder irregularities causing Eventides at the end of years comes from, because it seems likely that that’s what triggered this Eventide and likely all the ones related to the “curse”.

However, in ch2 of Hollowpox, Jupiter says the following:

“Golders Night,” Holliday echoed, and her expression grew thoughtful. She tapped a finger against her mouth. “There’s a thought… what’s it been, twelve years since the last one?” “Fourteen, I believe,” said Jupiter. “Spring of Seventeen in the Age of Poets. ”

So, 14 years ago, Nevermoor was in the midst of an Age that was at least 17 years long? Now I'm less sure what triggers Eventides/new Ages, especially in the Free State...

I find it unlikely that the Republic also experienced this same 17 year Age, as the fairly consistent Ages seems to be how Squall establishes the Eventide Curse... HOWEVER..... Morrigan turns 13 in Hollowpox... so this would have been the Age before her, and it might've actually been more like 18 (or 19? I'm bad at math) years long? Maybe Squall did something new the Age before Mog, like tried to take on an apprentice or two before her, or carry out some plan (or study?) with the other cursed children. The abnormally long Age could be balanced out by some of the earlier Ages in the lifespan of the Wintersea Republic being considerably short in comparison.

I would love to hear anyone's own thoughts on this! It's something I realized and now am trying to figure out how it fits with everything because I never really thought about it before.

wait how did kolya die. im p sure it was a long time ago during one of olya's stalker missions or whatever but i dont know the details. what happened to u funni man

dissolved in the grinder. in the incident where olya lost her eye and sergei got all fucked up. it's depicted in the mill n you can see sergei's scars in that one scene in punch it, punk! and some official art. i think nikita got his neck scar there too. iirc sergei saved olya instead of kolya and nikita (kolya's brother?? i think??) was upset at him for it, which.. understandable but also that's a really fucking hard decision to make.

my thing is we never saw his exact death, and we don't know if olya, sergei, and nikita saw the moment he died either (plus trauma kinda changes memories so they may remember it differently); we only know the aftermath. meanwhile with nikita we saw him get shot and like.. heard / saw his final thoughts in message lost (very underrated song btw i sometimes just go listen to it on loop for a bit). it's extremely unlikely that kolya is alive and is probably just getting attention / spotlight bc yura is becoming more entangled with the stalker lifestyle and therefore closer to both past and present stalkers, but i think it's a funky theory and fun to speculate on. i also just rlly like kolya's design, he feels like he'd be fun to chill with (i know nothing about his personality). if he's actually well and truly dead i won't be too fussed abt it but i like theorising lmao

On this day last year, my family faced a choice no one should ever have to make: stay in their home in Gaza and risk death or flee south, clinging to the slim hope of finding safety. Because in Gaza, no place is truly safe.

Each time they evacuated, they had the same gut-wrenching, desperate conversations on repeat: “Should we stay or go? Where would we even go? Do we send the women and children first, or do we all stick together?” Imagine trying to make life-and-death decisions with bombs falling around you.

One evening, a family friend offered them shelter, hoping the madness would calm down in a few days. My brothers agreed to move everyone there the next morning. But the bombs beat them to it. Just hours after that phone call, Israeli airstrikes hit our friend’s house. Thirty-five people, including children, gone. They never got a chance to move, and instead, they grieved for the lives lost.

They ran to Khan Younis, only for tragedy to follow. In November 2023, Israeli bombs hit my cousin’s house. I lost three cousins, their wives, and their children. It was chaos. Pieces of people scattered everywhere. A small child’s body lay unrecognizable until my cousin realized it was her son, Odi. His head was almost gone, but she knew him. She knew him by the shape of his teeth, his little toes. That’s the kind of loss no mother should ever face.

Since then, my family has moved over 50 times, haunted by the same questions: Where can they go next? How can they afford to survive another evacuation? Will they even manage to set up another flimsy tent?

And speaking of tents, imagine trying to live in one with your children. Picture makeshift cesspits serving as toilets, which fill up in a few weeks, forcing them to dig another. Comfort? Safety? Those words mean nothing. How do you sleep at night when your ‘home’ is a tent and your bathroom is a hole in the ground?

Talking about my family and Gaza breaks me, yet it also brings me a strange comfort. I refuse to let their stories fade. Their memories are beacons in the darkness, bittersweet reminders of joy and sorrow.
