The lore drop that bothers me the most with how it's glossed over is that ancient elves were actually spirits and how, without delving more into what spirits actually are, it ends up diminishing them as a people & undercutting their complexity. Even Solas says they reflect the world, a pure embodiment of an emotion, but then what does that say of their society, of their goals and aspirations, hell, even of their war crimes? I'm not trying to argue they're not people, it's just sad that the best exploration of it remains in Awakening with Justice and the only one who argues for their personhood is this game's chosen antagonist. That this is the direction they chose for the people they heavily coded as indigenous makes it all the more egregious that they're relegated to set-dressing (Crossroads, Hall of Valor) or a couple of examples to show some of them are Good (I miss how in Inq, Compassion is said to be a rare spirit and easy to corrupt, Cole is terrified by what he almost became and could become, and in VG u find 2 who are mostly fine, if a bit rattled. Harding even compares them to a mabari puppy??but I digress). Ofc they couldn't humanize the spirits more bc then we'd have to contend with how we're supposed to want them to stay fenced in for all eternity for the safety of the status quo. All the while, their earthly descendants have been invisibilised or killed off-screen, with the exception of a small group u can save and that's used as an opportunity to showcase Solas's growth and how bad the Venatori are. Ancient elves don't exist, city elves are functionally the same as any other npc, and the Dalish have been replaced by the Veil Jumpers, who are totally cool with anyone plundering - I mean, exploring their ruins and seem mostly concerned with isolating dangerous artifacts and shoving them in a museum, hmm... Honestly, I gave up when Irelin said it was easy to forget about the halla. Thank fuck Merrill isn't in this cus she'd be Cyrian. Others have pointed out how nonsensical it is they're all fine with their gods being fake, but also real and evil (yet still invoke the Creators & Mythal and wear vallaslin), so I'll move on to the real horror for me: that none of them knew. There's a banter between Bellara & Emmrich that turned my stomach where he says that elves originally being spirits was a working theory some of them had (oh, to be a fly on the wall during THAT racist debate!), once again placing humans as the natural custodians of elven history and it's all so cruel that it's world-breaking for me. It's awful that elves were abandoned not only by their 'gods', but by what it turns out are their brethren. Am I supposed to believe that for millennia they prayed to their gods, but they only ever spoke to Tevinter magisters? That spirits never shared anything about their common past with the elves? Why did Mythal keep them in the dark? The Dalish have taken great pains to ensure every scrap of history is preserved and shared, despite the genocides, but I guess oral history doesn't count (and they never thought to use spirits? ig they weren't interesting enough to be reflected by spirits either, otherwise they could've found out even more from that) and most of their books and artifacts got stolen/destroyed by humans, too bad the ancient elves never felt any kinship to them, they could've used the lore boost.

I wouldn’t say he’s “happy” to watch anything, because Michael doesn’t really express “happiness” in any context, but he is content to sit completely still for hours on end, watching whatever you choose. He doesn’t form opinions on films so doesn’t have a favourite, but when you watch a gory horror film together, the SECOND the end credits are rolling he is up and grabbing his knife, heading for the door; Mike loves some inspo x

Pinhead

Fascinated by human media, having long forgotten that aspect of humanity. Pinhead enjoys films that he finds mentally stimulating, thrillers and mysteries mostly (gory films have him scoffing because he could easily make a far more gory scene in the blink of an eye). That said, Pinhead doesn’t like rewatching films because if they have a mystery and he’s solved it, he has no interest in seeing it again because “It is done; an experience that cannot be repeated”. His favourite film is Saw because he was completely blindsided by the plot twist at the end - obviously, a body on the floor of the entire film is nothing more than furniture to Pinhead, so when bro GOT UP?? Pinhead was losing it. Had to pause the film to pace for a few minutes. Couldn’t comprehend how he didn’t see it coming.

Brahms

Every Barbie movie from the early 2000’s, classic animated Disney princess films, and Peter Pan; Brahms thinks the princesses are very pretty (often comparing them to you regardless of your gender because he romanticises every fibre of your being) and believes himself to be the boy who never quite grew up, ironically. Doesn’t mind gory films, but doesn’t like complicated ones because he gets very frustrated; prefers to cuddle up with you and watch something wholesome. Will get pouty and is not above begging to start a movie over the second it’s finished.

Art

He’s pretty casual about the films he likes, he prefers classics that have decent remakes and his favourite is Carrie - a revenge plot with magical powers that cause a gory rampage? Count Art in. What he is passionate about, though, is the film he hates more than any other that fits the same criteria of a classic with a decent remake: It. And it’s literally because Art thinks he himself is the best scary clown. Sometimes you put it on (either the classic or new, the reaction is the same) just to piss him off and Art will come storming in, signing angry gibberish with flailing hands until he’s sulking on the couch beside you because he will insist on watching the entire thing again so that he can complain throughout.

Sun and Moon

Sun likes exciting films with happy endings, a very big fan of action movies. Contrary to this, his favourite movie isn’t just one, but the full Lord Of The Rings trilogy - Sun loved reading the books in between watching the films to digest every scrap of lore, but after watching the end of Return Of The King? Couldn’t bring himself to read the last book, because it was too sad. Sun is adamant he will never rewatch the trilogy because it upset him but objectively, that’s his favourite. He’s overjoyed to watch anything with you, because he loves spending time with you, but you have to tell him in advance it has a happy ending or he wont watch it, and if you lie? Moon pending.

Moon prefers quieter, calmer and darker films, with a particular love for gothic horrors based on the supernatural rather than slashers/gorefests. His favourite is An American Werewolf In London, the negative aspects of the transformation being very relatable to Moon.

Marta

Say hello to the biggest film critic of all time. Marta will insist that watching movies is a waste of good time that could be spent praising God or eradicating heretics, so will turn her nose up at almost every suggestion you make, but when you show her John Wick? Oh, Marta’s sense of justice is PREENING. She’s all about that. By the end, her internal monologue is begging God not to let her joy show on her face. As long as you tell her a film is like John Wick, she’ll give it a chance, but John Wick remains her favourite.

Hazbin Hotel Ep 5&6 Oh My God (Major Spoilers)

I am having so many thoughts, this is just a brain dump

-LUCIFER. He’s so pathetic I love him

-Jeremy Jordan you fucking legend. I’m a big fan of a lot of his work and was excited to see him in this but I was slightly unsure if he was the right casting since I expected Lucifer to be more of a high and mighty/snobby figure, but with the way they characterised him HE IS PERFECT.

-The Lucifer vs Alastor rivalry is beautiful

-MIMZY’S ARRIVAL. I know most of us know the lore about her and Alastor being developed as a couple before it was scrapped but I really like how they are in the show

-Even if it’s just crumbs I’m so excited to be getting snippets of Alastor’s lore. It’s wild to keep going back and forth between “aw he actually cares for and protects his friends” and “oh my god he’s a fucking psycho”

-Speaking of that the scene with Husk holy shit. Poor man looked terrified

-The confirmation that Alastor’s also stuck working for someone, it has to be Lilith surely. I know some people will call it predictable because a lot of theories are coming true but personally I think it’s from good worldbuilding/foreshadowing

-ALASTOR IN FULL DEMON FORM JUST ANNIHILATING EVERYONE and then he just goes “Ah that was fun, now back to it”

I kind of don’t think this one’ll happen though since he’s the fan favourite and its just too soon to take that much of a risk. Plus Vivsie’s admitted he’s the best written character and it’d be such a waste of all that development

-More sweet moments between him and Husk, they’ve gotten me so invested in this ship so fast

-The fact that most of heaven didn’t know about the extermination?? Wild

-Idk how I feel about the timeskip between Ep 4&5, they’re only a month away from the extermination now. Yes it’s making the stakes feel higher but I do wish we’d been able to see more of that time for the relationship development, all the characters seem much closer than before and we’ve only seen bits of how they got there

-I really wish they’d greenlit more than 8 episodes to pace things a little better but I’m glad we have season 2 confirmed

-That last minute ‘reveal Vaggie’s past to Charlie, boot them out of heaven and then cut to credits before she can react’ is gonna torture me until next week

-I don’t disagree with past criticism that Vivzie’s female characters can feel a bit underwritten but I think it’s getting better

-“We’re coming to the hotel first” plus all the theories that someone’s gonna die are fucking stressing me out man

Oc Lore!

know nb rly cares about this but I need to get this off my chest about my oc lore

I had many ideas on how I wanted Palomas story to come out and especially with the outcome of the boarding school incident. A short summary is that Paloma was framed for something they didn't do but had no proof to show they didn't do it. As a way to not get them to act out, Wally sends them to boarding school to get their behavior in check.

I had two ideas i loved but chose the second option which I'll list here.

1) Paloma faces prejudice as being one of the only few puppets at her new school not just at school but by the community in general. Many of the puppets are treated very poorly and the living conditions are not the beat, the humans and puppets living separately and being considered animals and freaks by thr other dealing with the prejudice around them. Many of the humans in the town weren't happy about this and attacked the school causing it to burn down. Ultimately killing many of the puppets as well as Paloma. The story was then supposed to turn to Ashton and the family as they deal with the loss of Paloma and each of the family members dealing with the loss in their own way. Ashton and Wallys relationship becomes strained but is resolved by the end of it and everyone else grows a bit more closer due to their death.

2.) I got too sad when writing it so I scrapped the idea and decided to stick with the idea that Paloma was saved by their roommate, Audrey and their mentor Mr.Howard. but Paloma returns home completely changed and it's them trying to fit back in with the rest of their family and society as well as them going through depression and struggling to figure out who they are. As well as them being proven innocent, so their was really nothing wrong with them and they got send to the boarding school for nothing :p. As well angst between Ashton, Wally, and Paloma (they make up dw 😋).

  He felt disgusting. Horrible. Filthy.   Of course, he could do nothing about it. There were programs that prevented him from disobeying the mechanics; programs that kept him from refusing their advances. Every night it was the same: his systems and joints checked and cleaned, hands lingering where they shouldn't before roaming in areas they DEFINITELY shouldn't...   Melanie never did anything about it; she couldn't do anything about it, no matter how hard he pleaded with her. She oversaw all mechanics, sure, but they had dirt on her that could jeopardise her job. He couldn't afford to lose his only rock wall in the entire Megaplex. He couldn't afford to lose the one woman who made his dull, lifeless security job have life.   Then, as suddenly as she'd been in his life, she left it. That's when the real shit hit the fan. It wasn't just fingers anymore, it was mouths. Then, it was the humans' own nasty genitals. He was violated. Every. Damn. Night. He never got a break; they'd check his vitals, ruin the fuck out of him (almost literally), and send him off to work the next day. It hurt. It grated his sensors. They wore him down, replaced parts, and wore him own again. They ripped pieces off in their own blissfully fucked glee, then replaced those out of their own damn pockets. He'd occasionally get sad stares from the S.T.A.F.F. bots who'd hear him whimper at night, or he'd get mysterious looks from the main FazCrew themselves...looks he couldn't decipher. He ended up numb to them. He was ignoring it all.

  The only animatronic that had no care for him was the Daycare Attendant. "Nasty Rulebreaker," they'd call him; what for, he wasn't sure. Being violated? Was allowing himself to be violated breaking some rule he wasn't aware of? It's not like he could fight back. Any time he pleaded with his abusers, they'd smack him, or administer controlled shocks that blue-screened him. He couldn't feel anything for minutes after, but they certainly could as they'd begin climbing his bare body again and rutting against him like savage animals.   It was like the Daycare Attendant was...jealous of him somehow. He couldn't understand how they could like those fucking--no, no foul language--those stinking humans. Not after what they'd done to him. Maybe they'd installed some kind of program that made them loyal to them. That was likely.

  Then, children started to go missing. They'd disappear from the daycare, and the cameras just seemed to short out. Collin's "maintenance checks" still went on, more than ever, it seemed, and then he was sent out to go find the children. What he'd found on the third night of endless searching...sickened him. Guts, blood, bone, and brain matter everywhere. Vacant, decaying expressions. Odd, unnatural angles that limbs shouldn't be contorted into. He called it in. He called it in faster than he could fucking process it past 'oh my god, the gore.'   He was rewarded that night by blissful peace and the notification that the Superstar Daycare would be closed for the next few weeks as the incident was investigated.

  The Naptime Attendant had a virus and was being brought in for it. They were a strange AI, silent and calm when left alone and unprovoked, only glancing around with their red LEDs, the plastic orbs making clicking noises in their sockets. Collin, in his pod on the right of the Attendant, watched his neighbour curiously. Attentively. He wondered how this quiet scrap of rock-themed metal and plastic managed to contract a virus so murderous.   "H-hi, I'm C-Collin-" he'd started, only to be rudely interrupted with a hiss.   "We know-know-know who you are-are," the thing said, slamming metal palms against the reinforced glass of the pod, their faceplate spinning oh-so-very slowly. If Collin was to be honest at that exact moment, he would definitely say he was creeped out.

  At some point, while both animatronics were in sleep mode, the virus...travelled systems. Neither animatronic knew how it happened, but it did. Collin awoke with his systems bugging out, feeling weird, feeling...free. He felt like he could breathe. He felt like...he felt...   Unchained.

  They tried again that night. Did their normal check-ups. Did their normal hushed, excited chatter about positions in the corner. Sauntered over to him, smirking with beady, gleaming eyes. Placed fingers on the waistband of his security uniform. And he said no. They sneered, pressing the shock button. He writhed. Screamed. Hissed.   It only fueled his anger. He ran a mental checklist of what programs were unrestricted, then let himself grow. Watched the faces melt from smug to terrified, backing away. They wanted a fucktoy? Too bad. They got a monster.

  By the time he was finished, it looked as if the room had gotten a new coating of vibrant, red paint. A colour he liked, if he was honest with himself. Of course, he was horrified at what he'd done; he was no better than Moon. He needed a new name, he needed to hide, he needed to..to-   He needed to leave!

  Huddled below the stage, clothed in children's clothing, small and dirty, he shivered. Even his own touch made him uncomfortable. His own breath ghosting across his silicone "skin" made his gut clench. He hated his body. He hated himself for not just decommissioning himself as soon as Melanie left. And now he couldn't. Not only was that wing of the Parts and Services sector shut down forever, he was in hiding from the cameras. He'd ripped his chip out so they'd not find him. He was stuck.

  He was alone.

Edgar the Guilt-Ridden Engine!

My biiiig sad sausage, he's gone through a lot of shit and thinks distracting himself with work is a good way to cope

TW!!! PTSD, heavy angst and mentions of engine death, injury, and trauma

Edgar tries his hardest to be gentle and polite to everyone, but never gets toooo physically close to them, especially if they're an engine, because he's wracked with paranoia and trauma over an accident that happened when he was a young engine. He had a best friend, a Standard Class 2 2-6-2T named Arthur, who he loved to spend time and play with. However, due to their large size and strength difference, Edgar once got a little bit too rough during play and caused Arthur a terrible, terrible injury. An injury so bad, it was deemed unfixable, and Arthur was soon scrapped. Edgar was absolutely horrified, distraught and shaken to his very core that his own actions could result in the death of someone close to him. He was so traumatised and disgusted with himself for causing Arthur's scrapping that even decades on, he has never let himself befriend another engine, especially a tank engine, since. He avoids them at all costs which has led to a lot of engines on Sodor wrongfully thinking that he believes himself too good for their company, which only worsens things. Speaking of which, TVS Arthur's class is what inspired OC Arthur's class, and because they look so similar and have the same name, when Edgar first met him, he believed that TVS Arthur was his old friend, and the heartbreak that followed upon learning that he wasn't is something that still plagues Edgar's mind. Ever since that, even a mere glimpse of TVS Arthur has become one of Ed's many triggers. He can very easily be triggered to relive the event in which he injured Arthur, which subsequently often leads to him having panic attacks or complete mental breakdowns. He doesn't deem himself worthy of anything good happening in his life after being faced with so much misfortune (Such as that huge scar he has, it was from a terrible derailment when he was only a few years old), and just keeps himself rotting in all of his grief and trauma

Not those shitty amazon spellbooks that are just a list of pre written spells, these ones were written by some old hag 80 years ago and through flowery rambleing language tell you how write spells yourself. They go into spell syntax.

Harolds books for writing incantations and spells are spiral notebooks

If he uses smbols will typically craft a custom sygil for it

Uses alot of number magic and latin

Uses his confidence in his skills with writing spells to harness magic

Is better at doing spells for other people, when doing spells for himself he tends to overcomplicate things

Actually went to magic camps and magic summer schools

"I was trained for this!" and it's Mostly true

Can make the most specific fucking spell work for him

I cannot stress he is good at this type of casting.

Duncan's way of doing magic pisses him off. Both are convinced their way is better

He has a lot of respect for magic itself, Duncan's almost disrespectful way of using magic makes him mad.

Whats worse is that it works.

How Harold casts a spell

Writes down a goal -> outlines different methods to achieve it (incantations, scrolls, potions) -> writes out the spelleork with alot of detail accounting for almost every outcome -> it takes very long -> outwardly or inwardly recites writes spell to activate it -> profit

Alejandro - Siren

Mermaids and Sirens are almost identical, with few overt physical differences

Sirens will typically have colored iris', 2 finned gills, longer tounges, boned ears and uniformly sharp teeth

Mermaids have colored scalera, 3 smooth gills, finned ears and sharp canines

This isn't a rule, and in modern times there are few families of sirens or mermaids that havent mixed with other monsters at some point

Both species have shape-shifting abilities.

Mermaids have two forms, and can switch between them at will, though the process takes hours and the mermaid will have to stay in either aquatic or land form for a couple weeks before changing again. though this wait time can be speed up with tailsmen, it's can cause health problems.

Siren can shift their features at will, including shifting from aquatic to non aquatic with no wait time, some families of Siren encourage "good breeding" and fostering shifting abilities to the point of shifting bone structure, hair, colors and gender at will. This level of shifting controll is a very desirable trait, and cannot be learned.

Alejandro is one of these few families who try to stay purely Siren

Hes a 100% Siren, but unlike his brothers he lacks any shape-shifting abilities, a flaw that has brought him great shame (this is just a genetic fluke, it's like a birth defect)

but he has both a very powerful ability to enchant his words and natural charisma. Dangerous combo.

Because of the well known knowledge that Sirens can manipulate people with ease, Alejandro semi pretends that he is a Mermaid, using his long hair to obscure his gills

He more just lets people assume hes a Mermaid and does not correct them rather than actually lying

He lies about many things but outright lying about species is a bit much

Siren Speech doesn't work as good if someone's also using magic at the same time or knows what's up about it

It doesn't work that great on Heather, Duncan or Harold point blank, or Lindsay, Beth Trent and Justin if they're shifting or shifted

so! (claps) time for more hacker cody lore bc i just can't shut up today <3

so hacker cody was a p big pokemon creepypasta fan at one point. they literally wore a shirt with the pokemon tower ghost that says "game over" on it. they clearly took a lot of inspiration from pokepastas when designing their hack. the secret hidden escape rope easter egg is a direct reference to the "axe candle rope" pokepasta. leaf being glitchy when played as was a subtle nod to fallen leaf (bc hacker cody's then-friend at the time was working on fallen leaf's hack alongside cody's hack)

but at the same time, they also wanted to subvert the tropes that were a part of pokepastas.

"missingno?" nah, that thing is in every kanto creepypasta. get rid of it. it's not relevant to this story. "dead raticate?" nah, i can create drama between blue and the player without it. "self aware protagonist?" nah, the protagonist is the ONLY one that isn't a person anymore. everyone else is. "classic red vs modern red?" nah they're the same character. "red vs leaf?" nah they're the same character. "blood and gore?" nah that's way too edgy and tacky for what i'm doing. when MY protagonist dies, they're going to just drop dead with no visible cause. "suicide?" yes, but through implication only. blue disappears from the game and you're meant to assume the worst, but you never SEE it. the escape rope teleports the player to the tower but you don't SEE the player character hang themself. you're meant to let the implications speak for themselves.

it's got a "i'm not like other pokepastas" vibe to it, while never OPENLY throwing shade at the other stories that use those tropes.

and this all culminates with blue, who the hack's story (arguably) centers around. i initially wrote monochrome!blue for a separate scrapped project before placing him into monochrome instead. i initially intended to write him as a subversion of the popular idea of what a "creepypasta blue" is, and i feel like that's probably the in-universe reason for why hacker cody characterized him that way, too. they wanted something that felt "faithful" to the spirit of blue's character. he isn't trying to kill red/leaf out of revenge towards them personally, he's trying to kill them to drive the player away - and if he's SUCCESSFUL in doing that, then the player will turn the game off, therefore bringing red/leaf back to life when the game reverts to its previous save file. monochrome blue had No Intention of permanently killing off red/leaf, because all he wanted was to free them from the player's influence so that they would (hopefully) be themselves again. be equals again. be FRIENDS again. but blue had to come to the tragic conclusion that there was never a red/leaf to begin with. just cody. (or so he was programmed to think. he never realized red/leaf WERE actually still their own people.) even blue's relationship with prof oak has been subverted in this hack. i feel like blue-centric creepypastas like to adapt oak to be more of an asshole to blue - (for example, saying he doesn't love his pokemon enough sounds cruel and tone-deaf if his raticate died), to justify why blue is so jealous of red and desperate for oak's praise. but monochrome instead shows that (true to the spirit of the vanilla games) prof oak did indeed love blue, but that was not enough to save his life. in the vanilla games, oak is disappointed in blue for losing because of blue's own shortcomings as a person, but monochrome!oak instead finally recognizes that blue was Never Meant To Win Against The Player and tells him it was never his fault for losing against them. but blue couldn't forgive oak for continuing to let the player into the world of pokemon, giving them a second, third, fourth, fifth, tenth, hundredth chance to change for the better, but instead they continued to hurt him and red/leaf. blue viewed oak as complacent with that.

ngl it makes me kind of sad that monochrome!blue is such a Major Background Character (and also dead) bc he's got a lot of interesting depth to him that i'm not gonna get to explore in the same way that i would've been able to with the old project he was from. but it's ok bc i can ramble abt him here and hopefully u guys can appreciate him too kfdhgjgdks……

but that's also why it's so interesting seeing trainer cody interact w tears!blue now because we get to explore what cody thinks of blue personally. cody is an analytical asshole who's completely apathetic to his suffering. to them, blue was just a character in a story created by an indifferent playwright. so it'll be So Fun to have cody talk to tears about their blue like he was "just a character" when there is in fact a Real Sentient Blue Standing Right There who is Very Pissy about being considered "lesser" to red. (also think it's incredibly funny that trainer cody Literally Canonically Knows About Blue Tears thru the hacker's knowledge of pokepastas, but does not realize that they're talking to a blue tears!blue so they're just talking shit like he's just a regular blue. hope they get a rude awakening lmao)

She was originally meant to be a bjd doll/puppet with a koi fish theme, i scrapped that in favour of basing her off of a seraphim instead

This all begins when the god [REDACTED] came to the realization that one; their current existance is dying out and two; since that is happening the universe is going to die too.

The reason why this is happening is bcs all of the universes negativity (anger, sadness, despair as a whole) releases large quantities of energy. This energy has no where to go–causing it to manifest as monsters that are eating away at the universes existance. [REDACTED] has the power to repair these hole that the monsters leave, but is terrible at multitasking so they cant actively focus on killing the monsters. This led to [REDACTED] creating a race of magical girls (and boys) to kill the monsters for them.

One of these magical girls is Lunnile, who got cursed blessed to take [REDACTED]'s position! This gives Lun the blessing of "Vita aeterna" meaning that she cant die. Everytime she ends up in a situation where she looks to be dead (not breathing, zero pulse, rigor mortis kicking in ect ect.) a new Lunnile, bacically a clone will wash up by the shore of a larger body of water.

Yeah as you can tell shes pretty much very, very fucked in the head from her quest to become the next god of the universe lol, but whats a well loved oc without a bunch of trauma?

It makes me sad to think that the reason why comic books & superhero stories got so popular that we can't avoid them nowadays even if we try was bc nerds would buy & collect comic books out of pure love for the genre & stories. If I read those comics today I would likely find them ridiculous and bad bc it's not my cup of tea, but I can appreciate them for what they are and were in their golden era. Even the worst of them had dedicated fandoms who learned all the convoluted lore & discussed it at length no matter how silly it was.

Meanwhile ppl writing queer stories so often struggle to get eyes on them bc so much of the queer media fandom is either begging for scraps from mainstream media (fucking Marvel? Disney? Cop shows? Like, come on...) or just won't engage with anything that isn't perfect and has the exact representation they want to see, shown in the exact way they want to see it.

How many ppl who've complained online about the lack of diversity in queer media have even read any of the very popular T J Klune books? Or any less popular authors?

I'm not saying that's everyone, plenty of ppl support queer art. Just that it's unhealthy to view big budget Hollywood movies & shows as the only representation that matters. Buy a queer book or watch an indie movie sometimes and maybe 10 years down the line, those stories will be front and center.

Hello! I've been reading through all your posts so far and even though I am personally an ML fan and not a salter, I love media analysis and I'm sad that there isn't much of them in the fandom. There are directions in the show that I'm not satisfied with and I'm currently working on a rewrite for a future comic.

I'm curious about your ideas and takes on how you would personally rewrite ML, right now one of my issues is figuring out how the Peacock Miraculous works bcuz of sentimonsters. How would you write them?

I'm glad that you're enjoying my stuff! I label it all as salt because - as best I can tell - this fandom defines that as anything even slightly negative, but my goal is more analysis and discussion than angry ranting. Talking about what a piece of media did wrong and how you would improve it is a fantastic way to improve your own writing. It's why I got into media analysis in the first place!

Funnily enough, I do have a massive rewrite out there somewhere on AO3, so I DO have thought about how to handle sentimonsters. Or, more specifically, I've thought about how to handle the peacock. I'll give those first, then circle back to sentis.

In my humble opinion, the idea of sentimonsters should be scrapped for the following reasons, all of which existed long before the sentitheory was even on my radar:

Sentimonsters are too derivative. They feel like akuma clones and not a unique power. You can tell that the power was only created because they wanted/needed a power that would let the peacock be used at a distance the same way the butterfly is even though no other miraculous works this way.

If you want to do a slavery plot, the kwamis are right there being enslaved. You don't need to add human-looking slaves to the mix. Especially given that many of those human-looking slaves are apparently fine to kill off? Just, the ethics around the way the show does sentimonsters will always make me feel icky. Meanwhile the kwamis don't have the awkward element of being magical constructs that were made to serve. They were a free people before the miraculous. The one way I've played with using Felix is as a kwamis freedom fighter instead of a senti one.

Sentimonsters have too nebulous of a lore. In what way are they emotions brought to life? Outside of Feast, emotions don't seem to effect them at all. Nooroo's powers feel far more emotion based than Dusuu's and it bothers me.

There's also the fact that one of the show's biggest problems is character bloat. No writer alive can write a satisfying story that features a team of 36 characters! (18 humans + 18 kwamis) This is why the kwamis act as a hive mind once Marinette becomes the Guardian. You just can't write that many characters into a scene and keep their personalities straight, so they're now a single unit even though it makes Sass and Wayzz feel out of character.

Give all of that and the way the miracle box is kinda... well, it feels a little too cultural appropriation-ish for my tastes. I won't go on a full rant here, but to give two highlights: the zodiac miraculous don't seem to have a thing to do with the real Chinese zodiac and a box based on Chinese lore would NOT use a black cat for the symbol of bad luck. Black cats being bad luck is relatively modern European lore. In other words, the Chinese stuff is just there for ascetics and not actually representative of Chinese culture, so I had no moral issues scrapping the miracle box and making a much smaller version and neither should you if you're so inclined!

The thing about lore is that it only matters as much as the show makes it matter and, outside of a few key miraculous, I really do think you can change them without most readers caring because of how little the powers actually matter to the show's lore. Like they have completely scrapped the idea of making a person match their miraculous even though that was supposedly a big thing back in season two. This is extra true because it took us so long to learn all the powers in canon, so there are a lot of fics that pre-date the canon reveal and do different things.

But if you want to keep sentimonsters to be more canon accurate, I would consider all of the following as options or things to keep in mind. Feel free to use all or none of them as I'm probably never touching this plot and, if I do, it will doubtless be different from whatever you do:

Doing something to make the difference between valid and non-valid sentimonsters abundantly clear and not just "the creator decides who is valid" OR just don't make any sentimonster valid and have Emilie have used the miraculous out of a desire to help people because she didn't know it would kill her

Have Gabriel be more conflicted about the use of sentimonsters since, you know, his kid is one and Adrien, Felix, and Kagami are the only sentimonsters he dealt with for many, many years

Consider having Nathalie make one sentimonster (maybe even present it as her own child) in order to help Gabriel so it's not a slew of akuma 2.0 on the battlefield. Instead its someone at the school looking for Ladybug and Chat Noir after the villains realize that they're teenagers. (This could be a good way to use Lila and make her powers make sense)

Redo Dusuu's Force or make the tie between sentimonsters and emotions more clear. Like Felix is made from jealousy and Adrien is made from love so that's the source of their conflict

Use Felix as a third, morally neutral party who only cares about sentimonsters and have him act toward those goals like we all thought he was going to after season five. Magneto from X-men should be your template for him not whatever canon did.

Consider letting Kagami know from the start and let her know that she and Adrien are meant to be, but she's not allowed to tell him the truth or something. If you don't go that route then, at the very least, have her finding out be a big deal for her relationship with her mother.

Go all in with Adrien's commands. Gabriel wants Adrien to date Kagami? He's going to date Kagami. None of this Y-7 undo button BS. Go big or go home.

Give the sentimonsters a way to break free. That's what the power of love is supposed to be about. You could go super cheesy with this if you combined it with Adrien's source emotion being love. The literal love child using the thing that made him to overcome what he was made to be to be what he wants to be sounds very fun to me.

Consider giving the senti kids superpowers. It's honestly kinda weird how relatively normal they are. Like, sure, Felix is supposed to be super smart, but we only know that from his Wikipedia and that's about it.

I could go on, but that's a lot, so we'll stop here. Feel free to send additional asks or message me. I have many, many thoughts about how to fix canon while trying to stay true to the core ideas of the story. Or, at least, the things I consider to be the core. I legitimately enjoy the adaption process and think the fun of fanfiction is largely trying to fit alternate takes on canon into the base framework so it still appeals to fans of the source.

Full disclosure I think this has sat half-edited in my drafts for like a week at least.

But, I'm so happy I took my time on it. I think the beats of the chapter hit nicely. The foreshadowing for 4 chapters down the road is doing what I want it to do. So, I just wanted to make sure things were doing what I needed them to before I posted it.

For tumblr folks, I can write a bit of an extended author note. Which is always fun.

About the plot chasm: In the first iteration of this story, there was going to be an entire espionage sublot that involved Hexley Hall. However, in order to spark that, something really devastatingly sad had to happen. I didn't like that. So, after about five minutes of thinking about it, I scrapped it. However, I REALLY wanted my espionage subplot back because going full Mission Impossible into Hexley Hall just seemed like too fun of an opportunity to pass up. Also, the magic involved in that subplot still existed in the plot I currently was writing, and I suddenly realized I had no plans to resolve that. Therefore, I decided, I'm filling my plot chasm with an appearance from Greylock near the final climax of the story. Not revealing anymore details about that. But, he's well more involved now that I'd initially planned on him being because I had a plot chasm the size of the Grand Canyon that only Greylock could solve. As for the potential one-shot: I've been doing a lot of of work on lore for the Tri-Kindgoms and the Minor Kingdoms for this story and for its prequel. Specifically, I've been developing lore for Corinthia (which is where I hc that Winifred came from based on her design.) I was thinking about writing something set during the ep. Mystic Meadows set from her perspective that has something to do with the lore of that Kingdom and her powers of minor divination. Not sure if I'll do it, but if folks are interested, I'd consider writing it. Some of the stuff I'm thinking about putting in the one-shot are going to come up in the fic, some of it might not? I dunno. (I gave Cedric and Cordelia middle names in my head, and it's my personal opinion first name was Goodwyn's choice second name was Winifred's. So, this would touch on that.) Other notes: I really don't have much other than what I put in the author's note. I often write in "Acts" like a play. I'd say, as it stands, this story has approximately 3. Act 1 was for exposition. Act 2 is about relationships. Act 3 will be about magic and then will also resolve the whole story. This chapter is kind of the transition point that sets up that transition between exposition and the 2 different longer acts that each have their own climaxes and resolutions. That's not to say you won't get details about magic AT ALL in this next part, you will. But, the primary focus in this next section is on relationships, and all the lore tidbits you get are at the service of fostering connections between characters. As for things that are coming in terms of stuff getting "dark," this will probably come up again in a later author's note, but there's a scene I'm writing that might just hit me different because the feelings in the scene keep hitting a nerve based on something that happened to me a little over a year ago. So, like, do *I* think it's dark because it hits in a personal place, or is it actually dark? I always err on the side of caution in those matters.
