Hiii could you do a dandyās world, dandy x reader ( she/her or gn pronouns) maybe something like him trying to seduce or manipulate the reader into giving him tapes but he ends up actually gaining feelings for them. Smut or sfw whatever youāre comfortable with. (Also this is my first time requesting something so sorry if Iām doing this wrong)
Hey, no problem! Your request was very clear, and I really appreciate thatāyou asked for it perfectly. This is my first time posting a short story here. I felt that this prompt would fit better in this format, so I hope itās just as good as my usual headcanons. I found it quite challenging to write a flirty Dandy while keeping him in character, so I had to make a few compromises. Apologies if itās not exactly what you envisioned, but I still hope you enjoy it!

āæ Summary: Dandy gets a little flirty with you when you give him a lot of tapes
āæ Character(s): Dandicus Dancifer (Dandyās World)
āæ Reader pronouns: Not Specified
āæ Genre: Short Story, SFW
āæ Word Count: 578
āæ Warning(s): None - Completely Safe!
āDING DINGā
The elevator opens with a loud beep that echoes across the dark, oppressive room. Before the metal doors have time to slide up, youāre already heading toward them, mindful of your steps but eager to escape the suffocating darkness. From darkness to light, the sharp brightness of the elevatorās fluorescent lights stings your eyes, a harsh contrast to the murkiness youād been immersed in for what felt like an eternity. Time seemed irrelevant in the dark, especially when you were trying to outrun whatever was lurking behind you.
When your feet click against the cold metal floor of the elevator, the large door slams shut with a loud thud. You breathe a sigh of relief, knowing youāre safe for now as you descend further into the Gardenview facility.
The freezing air in the elevator washes over your clammy, sweaty skin, sending a shiver down your spine from the abrupt temperature change. You hadnāt realized just how hot youād gotten, how tired and drenched you felt. Hands covered in thick black ichor, youāve been at this for hours, and only now do you realize how long youāve been powering through everything. Your mouth feels as dry as a desert, and you silently beg for a drink, anything to quench the thirst.
āSomeone looks thirsty,ā a voice says from behind you. āSpare me a few tapes, and Iāll hook you up with the coldest soda I have!ā
You turn around, greeted by a familiar faceāDandy. Youād been so hazy that you hadnāt even heard him approach. No matter. What mattered was that he had what you desperately needed, and you had what he wanted in return.
Without wasting any time, you walk up and slam a generous amount of tapes onto the table, silently agreeing to his offer.
āOh, wowie!ā Dandy exclaims. āThatās a lot more than usual, friend!ā
āDandyāā
āI know, I know! Let me grab it for ya.ā Dandy jumps off his box and reaches under the table, rummaging around for something. A few seconds later, he jumps back onto the box, holding an ice-cold can of soda in his small green hands. āOnly the best for my number one customer.ā
You donāt fully process what he says, quickly taking the can and drinking as if you hadnāt had anything in ages. The second the sweet, fizzy liquid hits your tongue, you feel instantly betterārefreshed and slightly cooler. Pulling the can away from your lips, you exhale deeply in relief.
āThanks, Dandy. I really owe you one.ā
āNo worries at all, friend. You just keep giving me those tapes like you always do, and Iāll give you everything you need.ā He leans over the table, elbows resting on it as he cups his chin in his hands.
You donāt know what it is, but something about his expression feels different than usual. Heās smiling, yes, but the way his eyes seem half-closed and his posture feels strangely gentleāsomething youāve never seen from him before.
Suddenly, the elevator jerks and starts moving again, dinging once more.
āIāll save my best stock for you, buddy. My very loyal customerā¦ Iāll be seeing you very soon.ā Dandy pulls the lever next to him, and the elevator starts descending again.
Before you can fully grasp the meaning of his words, the heavy metal doors open again, and youāre back out there, the soda can still in your hand. His face lingers in your mind for the rest of the night.

Watching The Apothecary Diaries and from a character perspective I love the detail of the pipe, the one used in the warehouse explosion. In just a few, literal seconds of storytelling we're shown quite clearly who Maomao is:
She notes that she "accidentally" took the pipe with her. Despite being a poor commoner surrounded by luxury, she resists most temptations towards theft. There's one moment - was it when she went to Ah-Duo's palace? - where she notes that anyone with so many nice things wouldn't notice something small going missing, but then she knocks herself out of that thinking. Maomao isn't some #pure protagonist who'd never even consider such a thing, rather she's an upstanding and smart individual who realizes this is both wrong and, notably, a dumb move if she gets caught. Maomao is careful to ask for the materials she needs to pull off the bomb experiment and there are times when, even basking in a love of herbs, she will not pick them if they're from someone else's garden. Maomao respects others' property and not even her hyperfixations will override that (a common flaw in other single-minded protagonists). This also dovetails nicely into her admission that she and Luomen built a lot of things they needed because she grew up poor. Who's to say how hard someone else worked to make/buy/secure that object?
Sidenote: It's interesting to me that the exception here seems to be Jinshi. Just an episode earlier Maomao tried to fleece him of who knows how much through the sale of Granny's "educational materials," which, you know, is very much theft. Beyond the fact that the general wealth of a noble differs greatly from the specific possession of a commoner (or even a woman concubine), it feels almost... intimate to me? That's not quite the word I'm looking for, but I mean that Maomao allows Jinshi to influence her in ways she doesn't let others, at least outside of her immediate family. Another notable example of that is her unwillingness to fake an interest in him. We see many times over the course of the show - facing off against the women in the outer court, acting as a courtesan for the night, etc. - that Maomao is perfectly capable of playing the smiling, docile, hapless woman society expects. Yet from day one she's refused to apply that mask for Jinshi's sake and, in turn, despises when he turns his charm mask on her. Maomao wants people to exist plainly, just as she normally does... and a part of that is accepting that she's sometimes an imperfect, immoral person. Weirdly, trying to steal from Jinshi feels like an act of trust towards him, both on a safety level (I trust that you won't punish me too harshly if I get caught) and an emotional one (I trust you to see an important part of my character: that I'll bend and even break the rules for my family's sake).
Moving on, Maomao is also incredibly practical and is living under the realities of a) poverty and b) a patriarchal society. She notes many times throughout the series (this episode included) that Luomen is terrible at turning a profit and Maomao herself owes Granny a fair bit. Combine that with the reminder that she was just fired from one position after being kidnapped from another and of course Maomao thinks about selling the pipe. She didn't intentionally steal it and - crucially - she has no reason to think it's still important to the investigation, but now that it's in her possession she might as well make use of it. Clean it up, find a new mouthpiece, and sell it off for a good price. Maomao is constantly thinking about the price of things, particularly in the context of whether she, a commoner, deserves them and that leads to her likewise noting the everyday objects that could make a big difference in her life, things that others don't even notice. For Jinshi that's just a useless stack of papers to burn; for Maomao they're a potential source of income, translating directly to her father keeping a roof over his head. Class is HUGE in The Apothecary Diaries, so of course Maomao takes one look at a beautifully carved pipe and considers how much she could sell it for.
...but she doesn't. Maomao looks closer still, uses those keen deduction skills to assume the pipe may have sentimental importance, and decides to give it back. Laomen isn't in immediate danger of being evicted, she may have just snagged him a new customer in Lihaku, and Granny isn't hounding her too much, so soft-hearted Maomao is going to put practicality aside and return it. Because she is soft-hearted. This is the girl utterly committed to the big gestures - risking exposure to warn two mothers about the poison killing their babies - as well as the small: staying up night after night to sew pockets into everyone's clothes just so they might be a little warmer for one festival. Now here, Maomao decides to still clean up the pipe. It's not enough to just return it, she's going to return it in pristine condition, even though that won't net her anything other than a potential 'Thank you' now. For me, Maomao so often embodies the message that when peoples' basic needs are met, they're then free to be quite kind to one another.
Love this girl. So, so much.

rambling in the tags like a madman
Leon stans be like "Leon Kennedy would neverš„°" "Leon Kennedy would treat me rightš„°š„°" when this man's average lines are "womenš" and "following a lady's lead just isn't my style" and "maybe you're not heartless after all" to a woman who's saved his life 27473 times

ā„ Sanji/Reader Rec List ā„
40+ fics & authors suggestions! Click here to view this on a separate web page for easier navigation ā„
Sometimes Iām normal about fictional characters, other times I become psycho-sexually obsessed with them and relentlessly look for fanworks where they get smooched and hugged into oblivion. And by characters I mean Sanji.
So hereās a non-comprehensive list of Sanji/Reader fics that I love, most of them rated Explicit. This got sooo long because I kept finding other works to add while scrolling through my bookmarks and reblogs, it goes to show how good the fandom is! (Assume, unless otherwise stated, that Sanji is more on the sexually submissive side, since I like what I like and seek out that dynamic specifically.)
Authors I love
Iām starting this list with a few mentions of my favorite authors, although Iām sure Iām stating the obvious with most of these and you all know them already. Who cares! Go re-read their stuff! Leave a comment! Give them your money!
1. One Piece Works by @onlymurphy
Not to fall into hyperbole, but I owe OnlyMurphy my life. If youāre here reading this list then surely you love this author already, so this a good excuse to re-read the entire Grow Old With Me series. Sanjiās characterization is top-notch, and if you enjoy explorations of his self worth issues and how they would affect an otherwise loving romantic relationship then look no further. Also the author is a very talented smut writer (very talented writer in general, make no mistake), and that's the greatest accolade I can give them. Imagine me putting a gold metal around their neck but Iām the one who's moved to tears about it.
Honorable mentions for the filthiest-yet-very-romantic works in their catalog:
š¶ Do That Again
š¶ Wildest Dreams
š¶ If Iām Lucky
2. One Piece Works by @citrinae
Iām linking the masterlist for this author ācause I really like all their Sanji-centric fics, and Iād love, love, love to see more. Sanji is so princely and devoted, just an absolute dream of a man, and heās putting a lot of effort into making the reader feel loved. He gets stellar results in my opinion.
3. One Piece Works by @thus-spoke-lo (GoldExperience86 on Ao3)
There are three fics in particular by this author that I couldnāt pick a favorite from if you held me at gunpoint:Ā
š¶ Let Me HelpĀ
š¶ Worth the Wait
š¶ Dear DiaryĀ
Have you ever read a sex scene so good you bypass getting horny and go straight into mourning, knowing you wonāt be able to read it for the first time again? That has not stopped me from reading all these roughly a million times. Click on those links. Look at me in the eyes, listen very carefully: click on those links. I say this because I love you and want you to be happy.Ā
You will find other fics by them in the rec list because 1) I couldnāt resist and 2) Iām pretty sure they have more things posted on Tumblr than Ao3, at least as separate one-shots.
4. š¶One Piece Fics by @untolduttering
Author, I know deep in my soul that you love Sanji as much as I do. Fortunately Iām okay with sharing. If anything I'm glad I'm not alone in the trenches.
Check out all her fics and snippets, her writing is incredible and Iāve loved every single thing about Sanji sheās ever posted. Each time I open Tumblr and I see a new post by her, my day gets a little brighter. She writes one of my favorite versions of Sanji ever, insatiable and devoted and so, so hot. He couldnāt be more my type if he tried.Ā
I want to single out her vampire!Sanji one-shot because I havenāt seen this trope used by anyone else and I liked it a lot! It fits so well, what with the theme of hunger and Sanjiās inability to ask for what he needs:
HungerĀ
The meta post that inspired the fic
5. One Piece Works by @fanaticsnail
Fanaticsnail, youāre the only one who has ever made me willingly click on a smut fic that involved Doflamingo just because Sanji was there, too, and I love your Sanji so damn much (p.s.: everyone go read it, š¶ Seat Number Four).
One of their fics also appears in the Sex Pollen section, and since that one is particularly filthy let me add here two fluffy, romantic fics where Sanji is all cute and flustered by the reader:
Kiss The Cook
Your Flirty Chef
Yearning & Pining
The title of the section is pretty self-explanatory: fics where and the reader are not together, but God knows they want to.
6. š¶ Wanting by @froggiewrites
This ficā¦holy shit. Iām genuinely writing this with tears in my eyes. The yearning & pining & longing mixed with the sexual tension so thick you can cut it with a knife makes for a truly incredible read. Only for real Sanji lovers, if youāre not nodding along at each desperate thought the reader insert has about this man then Iām sorry but youāre only a casual Sanji liker.
7. š¶ My heart is thrilled by the still of your hand by ladyhabanera
[screaming crying throwing up] no yeah Iām very normal about this fic, I like it a totally normal amount. In the Ao3 comments I say that āSanji isĀ so so dreamyāa heady mix of submissive and deeply romanticā, and then if you scroll a little you find my other comment which is just me yelling in all caps at my second reread. I not only stand by both, but Iām doubling down.Ā
8. Puzzled by @mynewblackdress
What a lovely series, and what a lovely tropeā¦misunderstandings due to bad communication are as irritating and useless in real life as they are incredibly fun to read about. The reader is convinced that Sanjiās earnest compliments are his fucked up way of making fun of her, and it takes a while before they figure out that he means every word. Give it a read if you want a break from the sea of smut that Iāve added to this list, and you're the mood for opla!Sanji in particular.Ā
9. Sweet Confession by @softonshanks
I have one specific weakness that Iām glad to often see in fics: Sanji getting a hug while heās busy cooking, and heās all cute and flustered about it because he didnāt expect the affection.Ā And this fic has that + Sanjiās a pining mess for the reader, who heās FWBs with despite the fact that heās totally in love with her + sheās taller than him and he loves it. Iāve hit the jackpot. Iād love to see more Sanji fics from this author, so much so that Iām gonna ask her pretty please in Italian: Sara, ti prego, facci sognare.
10. š¶ Your Name by @strawhatsoraya
Now, the one pining in this fic is me. Sanji and the reader are actually complete strangers, but if what appeals to you in mutual pining fics is the gut-wrenching depth of the feelings described, then I think you should check out this little one-shot. My notes on Ao3 are āTfw when a pwp hits your id so well it bypasses making you horny and goes straight to suicidalāādo with that what you will. Also, check out the rest of this authorās fics and make a whole evening out of it.
Ft. Zoro
Get that stinky Mosshead out of my sightā¦no, wait, let him stay. I guess we can take turns on Sanji or something.
11. š¶ Picture You by @froggiewrites
I donāt usually read Sanji fics where Zoro is heavily involved, but Iām glad that that didnāt stop me from clicking on this one (also, to be fair, they take turns on the reader. Well, the reader takes turns on them.) My note on the Ao3 bookmark is āGod-tier sad horny Sanji characterisationā...couldn't have said it better, me from the past.Ā
12. š¶ Shaken Up Hearts by @lyriumcoloredskies
Okay so I lied, maybe I do like it when Zoro is heavily involved, as long as itās a collab to team up on Sanji. Sanji gets lovingly demolished in this one, but before he gets there heās sad like a kicked puppy about not being allowed to kiss both you and Zoro.Ā Who am I to say no to a heavy dose of Zosan in my het Sanji smut?
13. š¶ Nuvole e Lenzuola by redtendou
This oneās niche because itās written in Italian. I was stunned by the authorās ability to make a graphic sex scene actually work despite Italianās atrocious sex-related lexiconātrust me, itās a struggle. If youāre into Zoro and the reader ganging up on Sanji and you understand Italian, definitely give it a read.
Spa day for the soul
Fics where you take care of Sanji, or Sanji takes care of you, or where there are actual spa activities thrown into the mix. God knows this man needs some TLC once in a while.
14. š¶ My Pampered Prince by @sheerxfiction
Itās Sanjiās turn to spend some time flat on his back on the kitchen tableāitās what he deserves. If youāre craving a brilliant smutty fic where Sanji gets pampered then you've foudn it, the reader take really good care of him in this oneāand I have to give bonus points for the heavy dose of Sanjiās self-worth issues and the readersinsert fighting back against his refusal to get taken care of. Get loved, idiot.
15. š¶ Shower Time by @chibieggplant
Cute, hot, sexyāIām talking both about the writing and Sanji in this fic. He takes a shower with the reader and spends the entire time in disbelief that he gets to tenderly wash her body, feeling quite embarrassed by how into it he is, despite the fact that this an established relationship fic. And thatās how I like my boys!
16. š¶ Vinsmoke Sanji: Not all Men are Rats by livingonadaydream
I love, love, love fics where Sanji gets pamperedā¦but it doesnāt hurt to read the complete opposite once in a while. A very sweet Sanji makes sure that the reader gets a very happy ending.
First Time
We'll never know the canonical sexual history for any One Piece characters because Oda is, unfortunately, a coward. However I'm not surprised that Sanji is considered by many the most virgin to have ever virgined in the history of virginityāso here's a list of fics where you pop his cherry. Be delicate, please...he's very sensitive.
17. š¶ Say When by @venomatically
This one has to be the first I tell you about. If you go check the comments on Ao3 youāll find me absolutely losing my mind after my first read, and thereās no quick comment I can add here to fully explain how much I love this author, her writing, andāGood Lord in Heavenāthe way she writes Sanji. Heās a virginal pervert. Heās got that dog in him and it happens to be a cute little puppy. Heās so sweet and adoring he canāt bear to tell you how often he thinks about fucking you. I need someone to invent him in real life, itās not even funny anymore. (Also, if you like to see Sanji actually get a little depraved, check out her other fic, too: š¶ Letting Off Steam)
18. š¶ Lust by @tetzoro
Ooh, this oneās hot. It starts so poetic and romantic, but as Sanji loses himself in the feeling the descriptions get more carnal. I love his POV here. Also it involves one of my favourite things ever: the readers starts on top but when it gets too good Sanji can't resist and he flips her over to do all the work himself. Who else cheered?
Sex Pollen
While writing this rec list I realized I have at least four sex pollen fics where Sanji eats something he shouldnāt and thenā¦I wanna say āregrets itā, but the consequences are that he has hot sweaty sex with someone heās really into. If he were to notice the trend I think he might start putting the wrong thing in his mouth on purpose.
19. š¶ Itās a what flower?! by @sanjifucker42069
From the blog name alone I knew Iād found a kindred spirit. They have written for both the animanga and OPLA, and to be honest itās hard for me to pick a favorite work. Thatās a lie, this oneās my favorite. The author has a great sense of humor, and this fic in particular is both very funny and incredibly hot. I love how desperate and pathetic Sanji gets, and how hard the reader insert is trying to keep things PG before it becomes obvious they just have to fuck! Good problems to have if you ask me.
20. š¶ a fever you can't sweat out by @cryocandy
I remember reading this one day right before work. My shift was about to start, and I was sitting by myself in the car reading the smoking hot sex scene for no good reason at all, ensuring that I wouldn't be able to focus on anything productive for the rest of the day. Sanji in this fic is so dreamy and cute and pathetic, all qualities enhanced greatly by the amazing writing. If you donāt think you like fuck-or-die fics, do yourself a favour and read this one anyway.Ā
21. š¶ Needy Boy by @maddddstuff
My note on Ao3 for this one was āSingle-handedly made me into spanking btw, if you even careā, and I stand by it. Heās the one that gets spanked by the way, in case someone was in doubt.
22. š¶ Someone Help Me by @fanaticsnail
Sanjiās a mess in this one. A total and complete mess, and I loved every word of itāalso, since in the first part Sanji is struggling against the effects of the sex pollen all on his lonesome, this fic might also appeal to my fellow Sanji whump fans.
Dom!Sanji & Co.
Just because I have a preference for Sanji being a sub it doesnāt mean I will scoff at fics where heās more dominant in bed. Here are the ones I stumbled upon that Iāve really liked! (Also Iām using the term ādominantā very loosely here, in some of these fics heās simply more assertive in bed.)
23. Too Much (Take Me Home) by @secretwritingspot
This is THEE dom!Sanji series for me. Thereās no sex in it, itās more of an exploration of the sub/Dom dynamic and why someone would crave submitting to another person. Sanji finds himself in the dominant role with little warning, but heās damn great at it in his usual adoring and tender way. Iām linking the first fic of the series, but the author has written more for this scenario!
24. š¶ Leg Day by 1LucaCola1
The title says it all; fantastic premise for a smoking hot pwp fic. If I had the opportunity to train and make good use of Sanjiās expertise, Iād also push myself too far until my legs were shaking, and then let him do other things to me to make the shaking even worse.
25. š¶ very professional nights by @missfrustration
Ugh, I love this one! Sanji is your superior at the Baratie, and heās so very stern with you until he isnāt at all. Love the bait and switch of a Sanji whose professionalism makes him act a little cold when clientsā satisfaction is on the line but simply melts when heās alone with the reader. And everything he ends up doing to the reader in this fic, Iād hardly call a punishment.
26. š¶ Doodled Hearts by Twisted_Inkwell
Soft dom Sanji fucks you hard but heās sweet talking to you in French the whole time. I donāt know what else to add to convince you to read this one, that should be plenty.
In the kitchen
To fuck the cook, youāll have to look for him in his natural habitat. Then you can proceed to ruin the kitchen table for everyone else.
27. š¶ Midnight Snack by BombasticBastard
This fic is a part of a Sanji/Reader/Zoro series, but Iām linking Part 2 where itās just you and our lovely boy. As the title says, the reader is craving a midnight snack and goddamn, she gets the best one the Sunnyās pantry has to offer. This could also go in the Dom!Sanji category because he quite literally talks you through it, as the kids say nowadays, but he also showers the reader in compliments & he confesses his love, so overall heās too much of a big olā softie to call him dominant in any way.
28. š¶ All It Takes by mooseskulls
Reader catches Sanji being the pervert that he is, stolen underwear and badly-hidden moans included. This one has both a gender neutral version and a transmasc!reader one, I thought that was lovelyāthis way lots of different people can enjoy the āgetting bent over the kitchen counterā scenario.Ā
29. š¶ Compliments to the Chef by @tigreblue
The Author says this is their first ficāif thatās the case, theyāve got a bright future ahead of them. We all know Sanji doesnāt easily accept love and gratitude, but some good olā finger-sucking ought to convince him. Things degenerate beautifully from there.
Dark(er)
By darker I mean that Iām adding here fics where Sanji is something other than an absolute sweetheart. Youāll understand how actually dark any of these fics are from my comments and the authorsā tags, but they all have the general vibe of āSanji is a sleazy pervertā in varying degrees of illegality.
30. š¶ appetite by @groubee
Oohā¦this oneās fucked up. Sanji is an unreliable narrator that makes non-con somnophilia sound kinda cute, actually (it really isnāt.) In his defense heās written as some sort of incubus-slash-sex-demon. The author doesnāt go into detail but they donāt need to, itās all about the sickly sweet mood (emphasis on sickly) of a tender lover whoās also a horrible, horrible person.
31. š¶ Letting Off Steam by @venomatically
Heās a freak in this one, but heās soooo nice about it and heās soooo thankful that youāre letting him be a complete pervert who can get away with waking you up by stroking his cock over your face.Ā
32. š¶ Smile for the Camera by @thus-spoke-loĀ
This one broke my heart and turned me on at the same time, I give it a full five stars. Itās a short and sweet one-shot where Sanji breaks down all your walls and then does the same to your trust in menā¦enjoy!
33. š¶ Compliments to the Chef by @thus-spoke-lo
I realize only now that this fic and Smile for the Camera are by the same author. Thatās not gonna stop me from reccing this little series, tooāin the notes on Tumblr you can see that this was written for a āsleazeball collabā, which should tell you something about Sanjiās characterization. While reading this I felt like that lady in the comic about sexual harassment on the workplaceā¦like yeah maybe I would be okay with it if the guy was hot enough. And by workplace I mean a shitty restaurant, and by guy I mean Sanji in the role of the line cook who smokes too much and is very transparent about wanting to bang you on the counter where lunch service is prepared.
34. š¶ Use me by moosetracksandscenechanges
This fic! My God! Iām adding it here not because there are hard kinks or morally dubious dynamics between the characters, but I still think it fits. It has its sad moments due to a generally darker atmosphere and a more aloof version of Sanji (not that aloof, still recognisably himself)...but also he willingly gets tied to a bed. Sub Sanji lovers stay winning. My hopeless romantic heart hopes that Sanji and the reader will actually get together, but thereās a lot to love about the fwb dynamic theyāve got going on right now. A bittersweet read in the best way.
35. Conjugate the Ways by @secretwritingspot
Oh, Sanji has a foul mouth in this one, but heās speaking French so heās forgivenā¦also the reader has no idea what the hell heās saying to her. Itās creepy in a cute way! The fic doesnāt include actual smut, itās just Sanji fantasizing out loud about the things he wants to do with you, but if youāre in the mood for some good olā sexual tension, give it a read.
36. š¶ Ma chĆ©rie by marriedtosanji
He lied to you! About being French, of all things! I would never forgive him. Heās really good in bed though, so he makes up for it. The smut here is so delightful it does a 180% and goes back to breaking my heart over the fact that Iāll never meet a cute stranger in a bar who wants to seduce and is also Mr. Sanji Onepiece himself.Ā
Voyeurism
I swear this isnāt even in my top 10 kinks, I guess that Sanjiās character simply inspires a lot of authors to put him in situations where heās staring. Watching. Ogling. Observāyouāve got the gist of it.Ā
37. āItās entirely too obvious [...]ā by @ofallthingsnasty
[giggling and kicking my feet] the reader makes Sanji sweat cold in this oneā¦I love when heās nervous, I love when heās desperate for forgiveness! He doesnāt do anything bad, but the fic is all about him watching the reader eat and obviously liking it a bit too much. The mood is suggestive but overall it stays pretty innocent until the end.
38. š¶ Voyeurs by snackshack
Thank you Zoro and Nami for your help in making this happen, we couldnāt have done it without you. Sanji and the reader are in a freak4freak relationship, a match made in Heaven. Very good smut and a delicious premise!
39. š¶ Perversion by glossyjoonie
@Sanji: babygirl you suck ā„ Short and sweet fic part of a larger collection (there are other Sanji-focused chapters, check out those ones, too!) where Sanji gets caught spying on all his favourite ladies: Nami, Robin, and you. Robin sticks around for a while in this one, but in the end the reader is the one who shows Sanji what happens to boys who misbehave.
40. š¶ Just Between Us by @mytanuki-kun
This man is always spying on you in the shower, in bed, from behind a bush or whateverā¦itās about time he gets a taste of his own medicine. I adore this fic, I remember reading the first chapter and hoping the author would update as soon as possible because I was hooked. Sanji catches you ogling him in secret and he plays into it cause heās a horny bastard and the love of my life. The writing is incredible and Sanjiās characterization is so, so dreamy and sexy and adorable.
Thatās all, folks. You have enough material to survive a nuclear war, you can spend many happy decades closed in your bunker eating canned food and reading reader insert One Piece fanfiction.Ā
My final, desperate request is this one: does anyone have the link to a Sanji fic where heās 40 years old and he hired a babysitter (you) for his kid, but then one night the kid is somewhere else and you two end up hooking up? Please? Pretty please? I think it was part of a collection or series but I canāt find it anywhere!

so. many people have already pointed that koana is sort of like an ARR alphinaud remix and while it is not untrue, i think this analysis is only superficially correct. because the salient point of koana's character is that he feels shame and resentment towards his roots & origins and therefore overcompensates with sharlayan weabooism (well-intentioned, but still unsuitable). he comes off as really weird and stuck up, in the beginning especially, where it's like. "what the fuck is this guy's problem" in a way that's rather similar to the average player's reaction to ARR alphinaud.
BUT!
the thing with ARR alphinaud is that he was the Quintessential Sharlayan, both on account of his upbringing and family tree, and of his personal interests and achievements. he was (and still is) secure in his origins and cultural identity. koana's case is different, because he clearly loathes tradition and turali cultural practices in a way that comes across (and fundamentally is) really weird and destructive, which comes to bite him in the ass on many occasions during the rite of succession (and understandably so).
it all starts to make sense when you learn about his backstory though. while we know that wuk lamat doesn't remember anything of her own childhood, having been adopted by gulool ja ja as a toddler, koana was adopted at a much older age. he remembers his early years, and that's what fuels his entire vision for the future of tural. as he tells it, he was born to one of the most traditionalist hhetsarro tribes in tural, and abandoned (accidentally(?) left behind) during one of their yearly migrations, only surviving thanks to a pelupelu merchant who rescued and took him in before employing him in his tuliyollal shop. an obviously incredibly traumatic event that would shape everything about his future mindset: he's closed off and withdrawn to the extreme, highly analytical, values self-sufficiency and independence and technical innovations above all else, because that's how he survived to begin with. because his nomadic, highly traditional, presumably (from what we've seen of the one hhetsarro tribe we've met so far) tight-knit, spiritual and social tribe rejected and abandoned him. it would make sense that he'd rationalize this unfathomable violence by leaning hard into the opposite, and letting his own pain and resentment color his entire vision, turning his own feelings into a more general mindset of shame, resentful inadequacy, and complete rejection of anything "traditional"
i think sharlayan was a good choice for him because it's pretty much, indeed, the opposite atmosphere: in sharlayan culture, family ties are a lot less emphasized, while the kind of ties that colleagues, peers, teachers and students develop are considered as very important (see pretty much every sidequest and margrat's custom deliveries and all). all these relationships based on a common work and aspirations rather than origins would indeed agree with koana's character better, and his analytical skills, vision and intelligence are pretty much the most valued traits to them.
which is why it was actually such a stroke of genius to have thancred and urianger specifically support him. of course, both of them had a character development arc that echoed with koana's issues: learning how to express himself more openly and acknowledge his feelings, all that, meaning they were uniquely able to help him. but when you look more closely, they can also relate to him on a more personal level: thancred was "adopted" by louisoix as an orphaned lominsan street urchin, probably at a similar age as koana when he was adopted by gulool ja ja; and urianger's parents notably "abandoned" him to the point he was mostly tagging along at moenbryda's house and, later, at the leveilleur estate, as louisoix's disciple and honorary uncle to the twins (also worth noting that urianger and koana share the same flavor of autism).
so the rite of succession was a much-needed window into his own biases and (literal) coping mechanisms, and must have been quite difficult to deal with considering pretty much all the feats involved interacting with and strengthening tight-knit smaller communities with strong traditions and family ties. luckily, partly thanks to thancred and urianger (but not only! he did the work himself), he was clear-minded enough to realize his own failings, and well-intentioned enough to step down - because he did not want power for its own sake, unlike zoraal ja; he wanted to protect the turali people from a potential invasion by leaning hard into foreign technological advances, therefore mimicking his own personal journey and adapting his own tried-and-true methods of survival: anticipating the hardships, being as independent and self-sufficient as possible, and choosing isolationism.
and finally i want to point out that the new techniques and technologies he imported from sharlayan are all (safe, fast and reliable) modes of transportation: aetherytes, dirigibles (including the alpaca carriage adaptation), and trains. interesting choice, moreso considering that while aetherytes are the #1 sharlayan specialty, they have neither dirigibles nor trains; which takes on a whole new layer of meaning when you remember that his original tribe was nomadic and that he specifically was left behind, stranded in the desert, during one of their traditional migrations............
in this regard he truly IS green g'raha, considering that g'raha was, similarly, raised in a traditional seeker manner before being sent to sharlayan for his own (and the tribe's) safety; of course the difference is that g'raha embraced his heritage by locking himself in the crystal tower by the end of ARR, since the G tribe was tasked with guarding the remaining allagan ruins and weapons, to make sure their power would not be misused by yet another imperialist military force (he locked himself in the tower to reinforce its defenses and make sure the garlean empire would not access it to conquer eorzea)
thank you for your time š
#dawntrail spoilers#dawntrail#7.0 spoilers#koana#listen i know i'm forgetting a bunch of things#but this is a beginning#i also think (and hope?) that he'll get more character development#what a great and compelling character i did not anticipate that i'd love him so much#on a more personal basis this is killing me because this is pretty much irma's entire character and backstory.#top ten traumatized children who developed hardcore cringe sharlayan weaboo tendencies To Cope

So I really like the direction they're taking Alastor's character in.
Of course there's the part where they confirm that he is owned by someone and he has this really visceral mental breakdown and that makes him sympathetic.
But also in the 7th ep he ends up making a deal with Charlie where she owes him a favor, which as of now doesn't seem that big of a deal or dangerous to Charlie, and immediately after that his demeanor changes quite a bit. He's genuinely nice and helpful to Charlie the whole rest of this and the next ep.
(like holy shit there's so much of it)
He also introduces her to Rosie who's exactly who Charlie needed in terms of helping her defend the hotel and giving her relationship advice.
We get to see Alastor's wholesome relationship with Rosie and hear her saying "Alastor has never done me wrong before" and we know she deals with him a lot. I wonder if that means
1) he's at the hotel to find a way to free himself and is very desperate about it and so he calms down a bit and becomes less hostile once he feels safer about his situation. That Charlie WILL help him once he needs it.
or 2) deals are in general a way in which he knows how to form relationships with ppl and so Rosie (and now Charlie) going along with it is what allows him to feel more secure/in control, let his guard down and genuinely bond with them.

I am so ill over Mario and Peach
Continue reading to listen to me absolutely lose my mind over these goobers
Establishing character:
I just adore Mario and Peach so much. And before I get those funny people always like āoh Mario hates peach,ā or āpeach never āgivesā Mario anything for saving her! He probably only does it to get something from her-ā Ima need yall to shut your trap ok š¹
First of all, Nintendo, especially with Mario characters, had no idea how to characterize their characters in the beginning. Peach changes in almost every single different medium. Take the old Nintendo power (I think) comic called the āsuper Mario adventures.ā in which Peach is a lot more outgoing, strong, sassy, and a literal general.
Not saying this is a bad rendition of peach I actually like it! But I use it as an example of how these characters have changed over the years. And also, often times in games or stories like these where they focus more on the characters than gameplay, we see a more accurate and fleshed out character. Which is why in some other Mario games, characters often say things that might seem rude or out of character but is put there for comedy. (Nintendo obsession with making fun of Luigi in every rpg game is an example š). And the same goes for Mario, heās changed a lot. But I feel in the current renditions of the characters, they have a much more stable idea of their character.
Also another cute picture from the comic-(sorry quality poopy I took it from mine)
This is peach dreaming about marrying Mario btw.
Marioās character:
From what we see now, Mario is just an average blue collar man in his late twentyās who is quite short and also plump. Despite this he is still THE most brave, athletic, talented, determined, occasionally hot headed, and an overall idol to the entire mushroom kingdom. He is often labeled as THE Mario. And people also express their surprised when they actually see what he looks like š. But the reason I bring this up is Mario is quite literally just some guy. Heās some guy who entered this foreign kingdom, heard there was a Princess in trouble, and as a New York Italien blue collar worker he couldāve easily just went on with his day or ignored these random peoples pleas, but instead, he immediately decides he will travel multiple worlds so he can save this princess and help the kingdom (also cause the game needed a incentive but still-). From the get go mario was ready to help people. He helps them not expecting anything in return, but because he has a good sense of Justice. Thereās hundreds of side quests you can do with Mario, sometimes theyāre ridiculous. But you know what? Mario will do it. Because he likes helping people. Because heās a role model. And because heās just a good guy.
Mario and Peach as a couple:
Most of the time, people who criticize or make fun of their relationship are often doing it as a joke which is fine, but this is for the people who genuinely think Peach is a jerk for not giving Mario āmoreā for what he does.
People often say āMario has saved her so many times and all he gets is a kiss on the cheek!ā
Now despite the fact Peach doesnāt owe Mario anything just because he saved her, I can see why people might be upset over this. However, like I said before, Mario does things not expecting rewards, but just because itās the right thing to do and he has a duty.
People forget one dire things when it comes to love like this:
Love can be shown in many different ways
Peach kissing Mario in the cheek wasnāt proof that they were in love or together. Iād argue they werenāt really at all in the beginning. Except maybe a slight crush. A kiss on the cheek is often just a gesture of gratitude. Peach usually kissed anyone who saved her. Itās just her way of saying thank you.
What really shows that Mario and peach love one another is how they interact. The things they say and do. They donāt need to kiss to prove theyāre in love, itās simply implied with how they interact with one another. Whether itās small gestures like holding oneās hand before a big game, or something such as trusting the other person to give you a boost so you can save your partners rabbid version of themselves from an evil space fish.
Or! It can be something more direct, like peach literally looking Mario in the eyes and saying this:
Or when she is scared but assured herself she will be ok as long as she has Mario!
Itās these little things that speak larger than words. Mario and peach simply have a relationship that is there but doesnāt need to be forced down your throats to convince you that theyāre in love. They simply are. And their love is shown in many ways. Love comes in all shapes and sizes, and so does Mario and Peach!
Now have Mario dancing like a middle aged dad snapping his little fingers to make Peach laugh :)

I am all up in my feels about the first chapter from the new Law novel. (I read a translation here.) General reactions under the cut for spoilers:
This seems to be taking place fairly early into the Heart Pirates' career, as we start out with just the OG Four on the crew. And Hakugan is the first recruit.
Law already has a bounty of 80 million berries, and he has his epithet of "Surgeon of Death." Chalic also says he's going to take the title of Strongest in the North Blue from Law. Again, when the Hearts are still just four strong.
Bepo, Shachi, and Penguin originally all wore orange jumpsuits. It was Bepo's idea, and Shachi and Penguin were all in. Law is too particular about his own fashion so won't wear one (š), but he's fine leaving the others to it to create a sense of unity in the crew. They're very proud of their jumpsuits!
We get one of my favorite tropes: Devil Fruit users going into the water. This, apparently, is the impetus for the Hearts to take on their sea-based combat abilities; they want to not only take on ships from above and below the surface but always be ready if Law goes into the water again. They love Law so much. I cry.
Hakugan is the one to rescue Law from the water, and he does it because he thought Law looked like a "hero of justice." Law scoffs because pirates are hardly "heroes of justice," but he also doesn't hate it either because it makes him think of, amusingly, of Sora (Law, you nerd), but also his parents. š
Law goes out of his way to help Hakugan and some fellow villagers who were kidnapped by a defeated pirate crew by bringing them home. Law says it's because he owes Hakugan for saving his life ("Life is give and take," which he learned from Wolf), but Hakugan calls him on it. Law, your kindness is showing again.
Law originally had a graded sword, Koshou, but it broke during his fight with Chalic, and he only had the hilt after going in the water. He's pretty heartbroken about losing the sword. Oh, Law. Always having what you love ripped from you.
When they reach Hakugan's home island (Welbems Island), it has nice weather, so Penguin and Shachi change into Aloha shirts. Hilarious, and also clearly a nod to Wolf.
Law, thinking of Corazon and Wolf, also refuses to let Hakugan (who wears his mask because he has a severe burn on his face from rescuing an old woman and her daughter from a fire) avoid visiting the village chief. He even ruffles Hakugan's hair at one point and encourages him. Softie.
Law spends the whole chapter trying to warn civilians that they are pirates and probably dangerous, and everyone looks at them and goes
Hakugan's parents were killed by pirates who are in control of part of the island, and Hakugan wants to avenge them. Law tells him not to get obsessed with revenge. Trafalgar Literal Hearts on His Sleeve Law. He does, at least, recognize his own hypocrisy as his desire for revenge just keeps growing.
Hakugan has a little sister, Nanagi, who reminds Law of Lami, and he teases her, which feels nostalgic. Just rip my heart out, why don't you. Nanagi gives Bepo, Shachi, and Penguin nicknames but just calls Law by his name; they have a little rivalry going, and it's adorable.
The Hearts spend three days at Hakugan's house, and Law spends his vacation reading medical books and practicing swordsmanship. Giant. Nerd.
Law actually laughs quite a few times in this chapter. There are a lot of really wonderful little character moments showcasing how close the OG Four really are.
Looks like Law will meet Kikoku next chapter.
It's been way too long since Law appeared in the manga, so it's good to get some fresh Law content. That was a lot of fun, and I'm excited for the next chapter!

I DIDN'T KNOW LEONA KNEW ABOUR RAVEN'S CRUSH ON J WORD QUNFKANSKD does he tease her about her? does he takes advantage of this knowledge in some way?
also the āangsts about not being "the one"ā made me kind of sad tho ngl jqnfkwnakdns DON'T DO THIS TO ME. (cries in a corner)
[Referencing this post!]
I MEAN... I feel like Raven's crush is obvious and easy to tell š Girl is so bad at hiding it. Various other students in the cast (even ones she's not particularly friends with) such as Vil, Ace, Floyd, and Rook are aware of it. There's no way that someone as perceptive and as smart as Leona would let that one go over his head!
I think of this knowledge as being a constant source of angst for Leona (y'know, because it plays into his whole inferiority complex about being "second best, never first place"). He can't have his skills acknowledged, the crown, the interdorm magift tournament win, love... Life's not fair. If he's in a really bad mood, he might make a bitter jab about it. Maybe something like, "Why don't you go crying to that slimy eel bastard, since you clearly enjoy being lied to so long as it comes with a generous side of cooing?" If he's feeling more confident, he definitely finds ways to use the relationship for personal gain. For example, in the hostage situation my friend wrote, Leona is pressuring Octavinelle to hand over the money owed to Savanaclaw by using Raven as a bargaining chip. I guess she's just another pawn in his 5D chess games sometimes.
Speaking of Savanaclaw, I like to imagine that (because they admire their dorm leader so much) they're all super supportive of Leona and act as his wingmen + hype him up when he's clearly brooding. You can see the beginnings of this dynamic in the EBG posts, particularly when the mobs make Raven follow Leona around and how Ruggie often asks her to be more patient with him. In a lot of my Leona and Raven interactions, Ruggie tends to be the main wingman. He thinks it's funny seeing his dorm leader act all grumpy over prey and teases him about it, especially when Leona fucks up and acts overly aggressive/scares her. Really, Ruggie ends up being the guy helping Leona out the most by mediating arguments, running related errands, and gathering info on Raven's likes/dislikes (for a price, of course).
Jack is the underclassman thatās a little slow on the uptake. He sees how Leona stares at Raven and assumes they got beef. Ruggie shakes his head at Jack and tells him he doesnāt understand at all, heās still an immature puppy! Jack wants to know whatās up, but he also doesnāt want to intrude on his dorm leaderās personal life.
As for the general Savanaclaw mobs š I guess I just like the idea of a group of really buff guys being super invested in their aniki finding happiness. Real broās bros! ^^

With the Series Ending
I decided to do this solely based on canon, except for F which are so bad that they transcend the rule. I also put this in the lens of do I enjoy watching them, or do they infuriate me. Most of the ones in G are there because I can't tell who they are from the picture, or are so minor I don't get why they were on the list to begin with
Hawks was the hardest to place because as I've mentioned before I love villain fanon Hawks, and hate Canon for all the missed potential and the guy being shit.
Before the last arc, Deku would have been in C, and I felt most criticisms of him were undeserved. I still feel a lot of them are dumb, however, he's canonically a hypocritical, suck-up to labels, abuse apologist, idiot, etc. As much as it feels like character assassination it's canon, same with Shoji. I also just don't care to read fanfiction of him, and feel he takes a lot of roles where other characters would make more sense. If I'm not already following someone I'm not going to read fanfiction with him in it
Most of E I hate as much if not more than F but the fandom either doesn't write about, or treat them like the pieces of crap they are, looking at Mineta of course.
Fun fact Edgeshot is in E for bringing Bakugo back, and causing me both meta and dramatic issues for me. What the fuck was the point of killing Bakugo to immediately bring him back. How the fuck did Edgeshot know he could do this? How the fuck did he know how to do this? Why the fuck is he doing this for some random teenager he has never interacted with before, in the middle of a war? And now why the fuck does this fucker get to live, no one gave a single fuck about Edgeshot but he gets to live!
Centipeder would have been in E if not for the fact I know what my ringtone for him would be, Red Flags by Tom Cardy
Uraraka owes her rank in B for her arc with Toga, otherwise, she would have been in D. For the plot forgoing her original motivations so they could turn her into a generic love interest. Toga tried talking crushes with her 'twice' everything else regarding that shit, which started before they ever met, is on her
I actually love Endeavor fanfics as most of them either a treat his abuse for what it is, or b I view them as an own on canon Endeavor and his incredible laziness and selfishness. But Twitter exists and they flock to him and his bullshit so to F with him.
Speaking of Fs, Bakugo is a whiney spoiled rotten brat with a silver spoon shoved into his mouth since birth. I hope he never breeds. Damn near every shit thing that has happened to him, was either brought on by himself, literally applied to everyone, he literally doesn't care, and even with the two exceptions I'd give this, the Sludge guy, and being chained up at the sports fest (he should have been disqualified), do not justify his shit
Congrats to Dark Shadow and Tokoyami for being the only hero (student) to make it past B
Needless to say I love villains, Dabi is by far my favourite, followed by Himiko, they are way more engaging and convincing than the heroes. And by convincing I mean it actually feels like they are going to put in effort to make their goals happen, not just wish really hard. I truly wish we could have seen how Shigaraki's goals shifted during his reign over the PLF. We had already seen how he wanted the League to be happy and an exception to his goal of destruction

feel me
pairing: non-idol!han x gn!reader, some non-idol!felix x gn!reader
genre: angst with a happy ending. slight fluff.
word count: ~21k
warnings: angst with a happy ending. mutual pining thatās fully believed to only be one-sided by both parties. temporary relationship with felix. heartbreak. no communication at one part after jisung ghosts reader for almost three weeks. big brother-figure chris having serious talks with reader. fluff in certain parts, though. food mentions. hyunjin is kinda ready to throw down at one point tbh.
daisyās notes: title origin from the golden child song bc the lyrics kinda fit haha <3 anyway rewrite of this old thing!! also sorry felix but if u get the sequel fic i'm thinkin of... u will be happy <3
Most people looked at the friendship you had with Chris and assumed that he was your best friend. The two of you had grown up down the road from one another, after all, and that had been why you ended up befriending one another. His family all knew you by name and knew all of your favorites (because Chris had learned them first and made sure everyone knew them), and they all watched you follow Chris around like a duckling when you were small. Pictures of the two of you littered the walls of both your childhood home and his, all from vacations your families had taken together. Plus your parents always made enough food for Chris on any given day, since he always found his way over for dinner at the most random times. If anything, Chris was family to you now, the big brother you never had (and, occasionally when he was being a little overly affectionate, he was your big bother). Before college, Chris Bang was one-hundred-percent your best friendā¦
Until you met Han Jisung on the first day of freshman orientation.
Sure, the reason you came to this school was partially because you knew youād have a friend in the area (you liked the literature program a lot more), but things changed the day you met Jisung. The two of you had been a little wary of the other people in your group, all bragging about how they wouldnāt let anyone stop them from the party life they were craving. On one hand, you kind of admired the tenacity that tookā¦ but on the other, they were the rowdy bunch out of all the groups that were around. Even though you werenāt much of a party person, your annoyance at the time firmly came from the fact you were sinking so much money into this schoolāeven without the financial aid and scholarships youād managed to get. Partying was fun, but denying everything in favor of it? You couldnāt wrap your head around it.
And, apparently, neither could Jisung. Heād been separated from his friends, all in the same orientation group without him, and looked a little lost. You quietly moved your chair over to him after you grew annoyed with two people hardcore flirting with one another and ignoring the poor orientation leader who was just trying to tell you all about the general education program. Heād looked up at you, and you introduced yourself to him quietlyātrying not to catch the attention of your orientation leader. She was too busy waiting for the novelty of it all to die down for a minute so she could do her job, soā¦ Why not take the chance to introduce yourself to him?
Heād gazed at you for a moment behind his glasses, pushing them up the bridge of his nose a moment later. āHan,ā heād said in a quiet voice. Then he cleared his throat, speaking a little louder, āIām Han Jisung. Music management and music composition major.ā
Already, you were impressed by him. Chris was in the music program himself, and youād heard about how rigorous it could be at timesāespecially with the heavy course load that came from both programs. Chris had gone into it because he wasā¦ Well, he was Chris. Chris who was on the swim team and in the theater and the band and somehow found time to do community service, too. Jisung was a stranger to you in all the best ways, someone who already intrigued you. When you told him your own major, he had nodded along, no push to question your future career.
āIs that what you like?ā Heād asked instead. āBooks?ā
It was one part of what you liked, at least. You nodded. āDo you love music?ā
Heād smiled at you, and it was as if heād become a different person for a moment. āItās my passion,ā heād said, voice clear and bolder than before.
That had been what the two of you ended up talking about until your orientation leader managed to get control of the group again. Sheād finally been given the go-ahead to give you a tour of campus, and you noticed that Jisung had decided to stick with you near the back of the group. He never said anything then, the two of you opting to listen to your leader instead, but you saw the tiny smile on his face when you were walking through the music floor of the arts building. Once you were released from your schedule for the day, heād kept glancing at you, as if unsure of what he was about to do. Then he finally stepped up, holding up his phone.
āMy friends and I are getting coffee off campus,ā he said. āDo you want to come?ā
That had been the moment that solidified the two of you as friends. You had happily agreed, exchanging numbers on the way as he told you about his friends. There was Felix, who he said was a sweetheart. Everyone loved Felix, and youād eventually realize in time just how true that was. Hyunjin could be charismatic, although sometimes he could be a little sharp-tongued with people. Apparently, he and Jisung once hated each other before getting over their school rivalryāyouād never understand it, but everyone swore by it. And then there was Seungmin, who was witty and funny in all the best ways. The group seemed to accept you into their circle pretty quickly, and you honestly contributed that to Jisungā¦
Who you very quickly learned was incredibly funny in his own right. With the orientation group and with you alone, heād been quieter. Polite and sweet as he could be. Yet you saw the way he loosened up over time when with his friends, genuinely funny and a bit louder with them. Maybe that was why you would end up clicking with him so well: he was versatile, conscious of the mood and finding a way to fit it well. You saw the way he seemed to naturally return to a quieter state when on his own, and you were happy to match that energy any day.Ā
When you returned to your dorm that day, Chris had been waiting for you. Heād watched you part ways with your new friends and decided to celebrate by squeezing the life out of you.
āYouāre making friends!ā He giggled, and it suddenly reminded you of the loving way your step-mom always treated you. He swayed with you, never letting you go. āYouāre growing up!āĀ
This was definitely something he was reporting to your parents. Not that you cared: his family asked for you to look out for him, too, and you fully intended to follow through on the request. Heād already been giddy when you showed him your acceptance letter and announced youād picked the school (heād nearly squeezed the life out of you that day, too), gushing about how heād have to introduce you to Minho and Changbin. That was why heād been waiting for you that day, actually: the four of you were getting dinner together, Chrisās treat. The two of you had decided to call off any embarrassing stories (both of you had plenty of ammunition, the same way that both of his siblings had even more on you both), and youād spent that dinner realizing just how much love you had for Chris.
That was why you had agreed to live with him come sophomore year. Regardless of whether he was being a brother figure or a bother figure, youād agreed quickly when he gave you his clearly premeditated offer of taking the open room in his apartment. His old roommate had just moved out, and Chris apparently told him he āalready had someone interestedā when he brought the topic up to begin with. So he helped you carry your boxes into the apartment and the two of you enjoyed your takeout that night, giddy to be close once again. Heād invited Minho and Changbin over that night, too, to toast to your first day of living with Chris. It was at that point that you decided to introduce Jisung to them, inviting him over, too.Ā
Things came together from there. Minho recognized Jisung from a photo that Felix had shown him while he (and Hyunjin) were sitting around before dance practice started. Seungmin ended up getting pulled into the group through association with the rest of you, and it was you and Seungmin who pulled Jeongin into this circle. Heād been in your general education classes, and he seemed to get along pretty well with Seungmin. Seungmin introduced you to Jeongin, and you introduced Jeongin to the group, and everyone seemed to fit together in this sweet way. Even with all of you having friends of your own, you always seemed to come back to one another when times were rough.
By some stroke of luck, Hyunjin and Seungmin ended up moving in a few doors down from you and Chris. Despite Seungminās very vocal complaints (always made with loveā¦ you were pretty sure, at least), both of them seemed glad to have familiar faces nearby. The two always seemed to drop in when Chris was making dinner, always telling some story about their own lives. You realized that your stories almost always had Jisung and Felix in them after Seungmin pointed it out to you one night.
When did you start spending so much time with Felix? Jisung was naturally there because he was your best friend (officially now: the two of you had matching beaded bracelets youād made for one another just to rub it in). But Felixā¦
Chris had picked up on how quiet youād grown that night. But he waited to bring the topic up until one Saturday when the two of you were alone. Heād passed you the bowl of popcorn heād made once before throwing himself onto the other end of the couch. āSo. You and Felix...āĀ
You rolled your eyes. Your love life had always been pretty off-limits as a topic to anyone but Chris, and he was fully going to take advantage of that, wasnāt he? Heād given you a few much-needed days to figure out how you felt, and they wereā¦ Well, far from platonic. Felix was sweet as he could be, and youād become so, so endeared to him when he started showing up to your apartment with baked goods. Everyone loved Felix, and you werenāt sure when your love for Felix became more than what it was before. Long before senior year, that was certain: every time you tried to pinpoint a beginning, you found yourself moving it further and further back to something else heād done.
āIām just curious!ā Chris chuckled. āYou always deny feeling anything for JisungāI should have known it was Felix the entire time!ā
Despite having the urge to, you didnāt roll your eyes that time. Your feelings for Jisung werenāt important. Not when he was your best friend, and having them would jeopardize that. Han Jisung did not love you the way youād begun to love him, and you were more than happy to ignore that crush. Itād go away eventually once you stopped fantasizing about what a relationship with him would look like. And if it didnātā¦ Well, youād figure that out when you came to it.
āYou should go for it,ā Chris said, shifting so he was slightly closer to you. āFelix is a good kid! Heās nothing like the last guy you datedāā
Oh, not this shit again. There was a reason you hadnāt dated in a while, and Chris was too aware of it. Heād been ready to get into a fist fight and call your friends as back-up. āChristopherāā
He ignored the use of your birth name, āI mean it. That guy was gross, and you deserve better than someone who thinks you should move in with them after a few weeks because living with a guy you arenāt dating is āweird.āāĀ
That had only been part of the reason you dumped the guy. Youād never told Chris any other parts because you knew what heād say. Your ex hated Jisung because of how close the two of you were, and you werenāt going to date some insecure loser who thought he could control who you hung out with. Heād always been āfineā with the rest of your friends (begrudgingly so), but heād targeted Jisung for some reason. Jisung was always too close to you, or he was too soft when around other people, or he was āobviouslyā in love with you and you were too blind to see it. If youād let him take Jisung out of your life, you knew heād eventually move on to someone else. Itād be Jeongin, and then Felix, and then Hyunjinā¦ It had taken a while for you to realize it and accept it, but it was just a gateway for him to control you and your life. When you ended things with him, you told him he needed to grow the fuck up because youād never ask him to do the things he was pressuring you to do.Ā
When you told Jisung that same day that you broke up with him, heād watched you curiously for a minute. When you didnāt cry or say anything further, he smiled at you and asked if you wanted to celebrate. Jisung had treated you out for dinner that night, telling you about how heād always thought you could do better. That guy hadnāt respected you enough to trust you, and all he could do was hope that he would eventually change for the better. It wasnāt your job to fix him, after all. Youād only left out the part where he said Jisung was in love with you: he didnāt need to know that, andĀ you didnāt need to hear him laugh it off as the joke that it was.
āI mean it.ā Chris had moved closer to you when you never spoke up again, one hand squeezing your shoulder. āFelix is like a little brother to me. I think if you want to ask him outā¦ The two of you would work well together.ā
Maybe he had a point. Butā¦ āI thought I was your sibling.ā
He rolled his eyes, moving back into his spot at the end of the couch. āAsk Jisung for help. You said theyāve known each other since high school, right?ā
They have. They ended up rooming together their freshman year, and youād almost always be spending at least a little time with Felix whenever you went to spend time with Jisung. Heād always be studying or on his way out, but he always made a point of hanging back just long enough to say hi to you and chat for a moment. Chris had a point, then. If anyone could help you, it would probably be Jisung.
(You wouldnāt know that Chris regretted the suggestion once he saw the way Jisung looked at you. Heād held his feelings to his chest for three years, and the mask slipped once when he thought no one was looking. The soft way he smiled at you, the tender look in his eyes when he heard you laughā¦ Chris would have taken the moment back if he could.)
Which was why you ended up in the MinSung apartment a few days later, sitting in Jisungās computer chair. When you asked him for help, heād agreed all too easily, saying something about how Felix did keep calling you cute. While he claimed to not know for sure (which you suspected was a lie), heād been up front with you when he said he thought Felix might feel something toward you. Feelings in their vaguest form, but still something to give you genuine hope.
Minho had waited until you left to step into the doorway of Jisungās room. āYouāre an idiot.āĀ
Minho was the only person Jisung admitted his feelings about you to. Heād already picked up on it long ago, seeing the looks that everyone else seemed to not notice, and outright asked him about it. He never understood how no one, outside of himself, knew about the affection Jisung harbored for you. Heād never been all that subtle about it in Minhoās eyes, always so lovingly doting on you. He saw the way you clearly cared for Jisung, too. When heād quietly asked Chris once whether you felt something for Jisung, heād said you denied it every time. But while Minho had his dumb momentsā¦ He knew you were lying. You had the same loving look on your face whenever you looked at Jisung, dreamy-eyed and oh-so-tender when you engaged with him. You gave Jisung a safe place to hide when his anxiety was too much, always willing to leave with him and get him the space he needed.Ā
Surprisingly, Hyunjin called him the next morning, just to tell him the same thing Minho had said: youāre an idiot. Hyunjin always somehow seemed to pick up on Jisungās feelings, too, but eventually believed him after he denied it enough times. You were Jisungās best friend: was it really fair for him to love you so much when all you ever saw him as was a friend?Ā
It wasnāt. So he told Hyunjin to mind his business, causing the short-lived spat that the rest of the group heard about in the vaguest terms. Hyunjin had argued with him about it, saying that pushing you toward Felix was cruel to everyone involved. Jisung knew Felix liked you, though, and now he knew that you liked Felix. If Jisung was the only person to get hurt, he could live with it. Maybe heād turn it into a song if he really needed to. It took a few days, but Hyunjin finally agreed to keep his mouth shut now that heād spoken to Felix and confirmed that Felix genuinely did like you as more than a friend. If Jisung knew that you were genuine, then Hyunjin could live with it as long as Jisung took care of himself.
It wasnāt your fault that Jisung had fallen in love with you. He agreed to Hyunjinās terms, and decided that he could live with the heartbreak if you were happy with Felix. Felix was a good person, always so loving and warm. He would treat you the way you deserved, loving you openly and affectionately. All it would cost Jisung was one heartbreak in exchange for your happiness.Ā
And for you? He would do it without hesitation.
One month into the semester, Jisung had already done a few things for you. Jisung went out of his way to ensure that you and Felix would sit together when given the chance, casually finding ways to move next to Hyunjin every time. A few weeks later, heād casually dropped the fact that you were wanting to get into gaming more when the group was together, and youād been confused until you saw the way Felix lit up at the topic. Heād immediately offered to let you join him and his friends, talking about free MMOs that you could play. All too easily, you managed to make conversation with him, talking about how you lacked experience with stuff like thatā¦ but you did have a Stardew Valley farm with Chris that the two of you worked on whenever you both had free time.
āOh, really?ā His eyes had been twinkling, head resting in his hand. āMaybe we could make a farm together.ā
All too easily, heād given you butterflies. āIād like that,ā you said, heart racing ever-so-slightly now.Ā
āActuallyā¦ā He averted his gaze for a moment, his pretty freckled cheeks turning red. āOur show is opening in a few weeks. If you wantā¦ā He paused, looking up to realize the others were still there, āIād, um, Iād like it if all of you could come. I can reserve a couple tickets for opening night, butā¦ā
Youād agreed, already planning to make sure your schedule was clear that day. The group had always planned to come support Felix on one of those nights, guaranteeing that heād have his own section clapping loudly for him once he was taking his bowā¦ but that quickly turned into something that would happen on a later night. Youād taken Felix up on the offer for an opening night ticket, and managed to convince Jisung to come with you. If Jisung was with you, you wouldnāt make a fool of yourselfā¦ and Jisung agreed, saying heād watch the show twice to come with the others later. You had work the other day, after all: it all worked out in a way, right?
Right. Which was why he was standing in a flower shop with you, looking at premade bouquets. For the past five minutes, youād been debating between a bouquet of sunflowers and yellow roses, frowning to yourself as you tried to pick which one best suited Felix. Jisung found himself staring at pale pink peonies. Heād looked up flower meanings once when thinking about you. If he was going to confess, he would have bought you a bouquet. Pink peonies meant something like deep appreciation, and he could easily spin it into his appreciation for you as his best friend. Would he ever be able to face you and not feel his heart flutter? Maybe one day he would, if he was lucky.
When he looked at you again, you were still deep in thought. He could hear you mumbling to yourself. Roses were too forward, too strong to be just a āfriendā thingāeven if you were trying to impress Felix. And sunflowers feltā¦ A little cliche knowing Felix. Everyone gave Felix sunflowers on his birthday if they were going to give him flowers. Jisung looked at the other bouquets, only to find one of yellow tulips. You looked up as he approached you with them in hand, the shyest smile on his face.
āYou said you wanted to give Felix something pretty, soā¦ā He held them up. āIf roses feel too strongā¦ Then why not these?ā The paper crinkled underneath his grasp, and his heart was racing even now. This wasnāt meant to be romantic, so why couldnāt he calm down?
Youād lit up, accepting the bouquet with him. He felt the way your fingers brushed against his own when you accepted them, looking down at them. āDo you think heāll like themā
āHeāll love anything you give him,ā Jisung said, gaze softening. If it was from you, itād be special. His hands rested over your own for a minute, and you met his gaze after a moment. āHeyā¦ Would I lie to you?ā
Other people might have. Some people might have tried to sabotage their best friendās happiness, but Jisung could never do that to you. Not when you meant so much to him. He loved you too much to do anything that might hurt you, that would destroy your happiness. Even if he didnāt love you, you were still his best friend, and that meant he needed to treat you like one. Best friends didnāt destroy best friends like that.
āNo,ā you said, drawing the bouquet back. You smiled at it again. āThanks, Jisung. If you wanna wait outside, you can. Iām gonna see if they can put a little ribbon around it when I payāmake it look cuter, yāknow?ā
His heart leapt at the idea. Of course youād be cute like this. He wished that it could be him that you were buying flowers for, but heād accept getting to see you this happy. āIāll be waiting.ā
The bell above the door jingled as he left the shop, taking a few steps away before leaning against the brick wall. With a sigh, he let his shoulders slump. This shouldnāt hurt so much, but the ache in his chest seemed to show no sign of going away. He could put aside his feelings for you, though, if it meant he could see you smile. The soft look in your eyes when he reassured you only made him feel more complicated inside. You werenāt his to give away, so why did it feel like he was losing a part of himself the more he went along with this plan? In the back of his head, a little voice kept telling him to find an excuse to go back to his apartment. A forgotten assignment that heād overlooked, or reading he needed to do for classā¦ But that meant abandoning you, even though Felix really wanted you to come see him tonight. Not Jisung. Jisung was coming to see him in a few days, so why bother staying?
Again, the bell chimed, and out you stepped, bouquet in hand. The brown paper that once had been wrapped around the flowers was exchanged for white tissue paper, all bound together with a bright, sparkly gold ribbon. It would fit Felix perfectly, all sunshine-y and pretty, and it was only now that Jisung realized you were wearing blue. Felixās favorite color. Why hadnāt he noticed that before? If you were in red, then Jisung would have noticed right away, wouldnāt he? His mind wandered for a moment: would you have bought flowers for him if you were coming to see him perform? Hell, would you come alone to see him perform next semester? He had to perform solo as part of his degree plansāwould you wait to come with the others, or would you be there every night if you couldā¦? Instead, he just gently reminded you to loosen up your grip on the bouquet before you broke the stems.
āWhat if he hates them?ā Your leg had been bouncing nervously the entire bus ride back to campus.Ā
Jisung just gently pat your arm. āHe wonāt,ā he said, voice as soft as it was in the flower shop. āItās Felix. I donāt think heād ever hate anyone for bringing him a gift. Do you?ā
That seemed to get through to you, and the tension in your shoulders eased up considerably. A moment later, you nodded, meeting his gaze. āRightā¦ā And then you leaned against him, completely unaware that his heart was now racing all over again. āSorry. Iām justā¦ Iām nervous, I guess.āĀ
Jisung could tell. Everything about you now pointed to this need for tonight to go right. The fact you were not only wearing Felixās favorite color, but also the way you had dressed up a little nicer, just to make an effort for him. The way you were fretting over the flowers still, even now (Jisung could see the way youĀ kept looking at them and readjusting your hands, all too conscious now that you might break the stems). Heād have to be ignoring you completely to not see the way your leg had been bouncing before, or the way you kept toying with your sleeve, or the way you kept checking the time even though you both left extremely early to get to the shop.Ā
āItās gonna be okay,ā he said, leaning his head against your own. āYouāll be fine.ā
Despite the way he still wanted to go home, Jisung stuck by you the entire time. You needed him there to calm you, the way he depended on you sometimes, and he wouldnāt leave you to flounder. The two of you found seats a few rows back from the stage, settling in for whenever the show would begin. Jisung could see Chris sitting in the front row, beaming with pride at the whole affair. That was the nice thing about Chris: he always made a point of coming back to help wherever he could, including with productions like this. Plus, he was always there to support everyone, especially his friends. Dance showcases, theatrical performances, the art exhibits that Hyunjinās pieces and Seungminās photography ended up inā¦ Chris was there, always happy to congratulate on a job well done. Jisung didnāt need to be sitting next to him to see the way he glowed with pride every time Felix was on stage.
When the show was over, Jisung watched as you gravitated near the door the actors would eventually emerge from. Heād already passed the responsibility of congratulating Felix onto you for now (heād tell him later) as he searched for where Chris had disappeared to in the crowd. Most likely, heād disappeared into the back to go talk to the actors. Two years out of school, and Chris never seemed to care about the fact he wasnāt technically a part of the department anymore. Jisung admired his confidence, at least: it always felt like a line he shouldnāt cross, even though Felix always said his friends were welcome.Ā
Heād decided to take refuge in the bathroom instead, just to calm himself down. Chris would come back out soon when the actors did, meaning Jisung could talk to him then. Heād started to fiddle with little things as he stared at himself in the mirror: fixing a stray hair that never seemed to stay in place, adjusting the collar of his shirt, checking to see how puffy his face wasā¦ All little things that he could pick himself apart for if he felt like it, and his mind kept straying to it rather than how happy you seemed to be. He saw how engrossed in Felixās performance you were. Maybe he should leave to spare himself from seeing this any further. Heād done his part, hadnāt he? You would understand.Ā
Except he didnāt leave, because Jisung was still your best friend. You wouldnāt abandon him now, so he had to do the same for you. The moment he stepped back into the theater, he saw the way you were beaming at Felix. Heād finally emerged, dressed casually again, and was happily talking to you while holding the bouquet. All he needed to do was look at Felix to know that he was smitten from the way he was smiling at you. Okay. He could deal with this. All he needed to do was find Chris and maybe he could manage.
But all it took was you looking up and waving Jisung over for him to cave, already drawn toward you like a magnet. He couldnāt just leave. Not when you were smiling at him like that. Jisung ended up rattling off some praise for Felix (genuine, because he wouldnāt half-heartedly give him praise just because you liked Felix and not him), and Felix had blushed over it. His gaze fell down to the flowers in his hands, and Felix smiled again.
āArenāt they sweet?ā The tissue paper rustled in Felixās grasp, and he swayed toward you ever-so-slightly. āTheyāre so sweet.ā
Jisung didnāt say that he was with you when you bought them, that heād been the one to push them to you. āThey have a really good eye for these things,ā he said instead. āThey fit you perfectly.ā
āI know!ā Felix looked up, beaming with pure joy. āTheyāve never given a bad present before. I donāt really know how they do it.ā
Jisung did. You kept a running list in your notes app of things that people said they liked, or things they said they wanted, or things that they needed that you constantly updated. Plus, you made a point to subtly ask about things close to holidays and birthdays, too. All the things you needed to give a good gift that people wanted and would appreciate. The only other person who knew about this was Chris, and that was because heād caught you editing it. Even if Jisung hadnāt given you the tulips, he knew Felix would have loved the sunflowers or the roses.Ā
āI think I saw Chris,ā Jisung said after a moment of seeing the (admittedly cute) way you and Felix kept glancing at each other. He started to move away, āIām gonna go say hi.ā
āOh, I can come too!ā You were flustered, all too aware of how much of Felixās time youād taken for yourself. āI mean, Iām sure Felix is tired of me hogging him, yāknow?ā
āItās fine,ā Felix said, smiling still. āI like talking to you.ā
While his attention was still on you, Jisung made a point to nod toward Felix. Stay right there. He knew you wanted to talk to Felix, after all. Youād relaxed a moment later, planting yourself right where you were as you turned back to Felix. Heād already begun asking you something about an MMO heād gotten you into, and Jisung turned tail to make his way to Chris.Ā
Jisung ended up leaving the arts building before you ever did, stepping out into the chilly night air. Chris was there to give you a ride home, after all: you didnāt need to ride the bus to Jisungļæ½ļæ½s apartment and then back to your own in the way you always insisted on doing. Chris had offered to drive him home, but Jisung waved him off. He needed the alone time to think, and the bus ride that took him home was the perfect time for it. Heād already begun writing lyrics in the notes app on his phone half-way there, and soon enough heād put them into ink in his songwriting notebook. Just to get those feelings down while the wound was fresh and oozing ink.
Youād texted him that night to say that you were getting lunch with Felix that week. He had other shows most nights, but heād make time for lunch with you anytime. Heād wondered for a moment until you finally said the magic word: Felix could do āevening datesā with you another time. Yet you still texted him a moment later, asking if Felix meant date dates. All Jisung could say was that it might: he wasnāt Felix. He couldnāt tell you yes.
All he could tell you was that he was genuinely happy for you, even though the emotion never reached him in that moment.
When he woke up the next morning, heād realized he fell asleep at his desk. His spine was aching at this point, and he realized that there was ink smudged on his hand and his cheek. Heād written down messy, clumsy lyrics that were nowhere near as good as he could make them. Jisung glanced over them again and again. The ink had smudged on the page, which meant he should copy them over to a fresh one after he showered. The melody would come to him while he washed off his regret anyway.
All of it was sloppy in the way a work in progress often was. But he had time to write it better.
A week later, you had curled up on Jisungās bed while you were waiting for him to finish an assignment. The two of you had plans to go out to dinner, and you always ended up showing up a little too early. It never bothered Jisung, who was currently hard at work on a composition due for class soon. You admired him for a moment as he bobbed his head along to whatever he was working on, lips pressed tightly together in concentration. Heād already told you he wasnāt going to finish it tonightābut he just wanted a little more progress before he went anywhere with you. Which just left you to scroll through YouTube idly, eyeing the videos of ducks that kept popping onto your feed. All it took was one video from Felix for you to fall down this rabbit hole, and you were honestly fine with that. He made you happy.
Absent-mindedly, you started to reach toward Jisungās desk. He always kept a stack of sticky notes on it, and you were hoping to blindly snag it without bothering Jisung. Yet he glanced up for half a second before pushing the cube over to you, offering a pen out to you without a word. You accepted it, thanking him out loud even though he was still entranced with whatever song he was working on. He hadnāt shared any of this one with you yet, but you werenāt going to push. He would show it to you when he was good and ready, and if he didnāt, then you just assumed itād be more personal. All you did was roll onto your stomach, leaving your phone next to you as you began to doodle on the sticky notes. Jisung sometimes kept your silly little doodles, sticking them to his monitor before eventually throwing them out. There was still a pink one stuck to the corner of his screen with a little puppy on it, surrounded by little flowers.Ā Youād started drawing tulips on this new sticky note without thinking, followed by other flowers that you remembered seeing in that shop.
Jisung pulled the headphones off his head, looking over at you. He was wearing glasses again todayāa rare sight since he started wearing contactsāand the monitor reflected in them. āSorry,ā he said, watching you doodle for a moment longer. āIām almost done, I promise.ā
āItās okay,ā you didnāt look up, humming to yourself as you kept drawing. āTake your time. I donāt mind waiting.ā
(When other people said such things, jisung always felt a little on edge. Did they really mean it, or were they just pacifying him? But when you did it, he never had to doubt you. You always gave him this little reassuring smile. You meant it, and that was something else he loved about you.)
āI mean it,ā you said, just like you always did to try and reassure him further. āIāll be right here when youāre done, okay?ā
Sometimes that promise would end in you falling asleep on his bed, always after you had a particularly long or rough day. He never woke you up: heād just pulled a blanket over you and went to sleep on the couch for the night. He always made it up to you by buying breakfast that following morning. You did the same for him, after all.
Jisung replaced his headphones, but left one side off so he could hear you. A clear sign that he was open to conversation now, less focused on the work at hand. His way of winding down without dropping the project entirely. āHow,ā he said, and then paused for just a second as he clicked something else, āwas lunch with Felix?ā
The heat traveled to your face immediately, and you averted your gaze. āIt was nice.āĀ
āOh?ā He swayed a little, turning his chair slightly. āSo no wedding yet? I was practicing to be the flower girl, you know.ā
You flipped him off, and he snorted.Ā
āI wouldnāt make a good one?ā He faked offense. āI think Iād be cute.āĀ
āThe cutest,ā you rolled your eyes, yet still found yourself smiling. āAre you gonna show me the song youāre working on, or is this one another mystery?ā
Jisung turned toward his computer again, not quite looking at you anymore. āItās not ready yet.āĀ
You looked up at him, the way he sounded a little distant piquing your curiosity. It wasnāt ready yetā¦? You shrugged it off. What reason would Jisung have to lie to youā¦? Maybe he didnāt want your opinions this time around. There was nothing wrong with that, to be fair: Chris and Changbin were both better for musical analysis. But heād always valued your opinions on something that was so important to him, and you always tried to pay attention to his lyricism and compliment him where you could.
Yet you doodled a little rose in the corner of the note. āOkay,ā you dragged out the word, rolling onto your side after a moment, just to face him for a second. āIf you ever want to show me, Iāll be happy to listen.ā
āIāll let you know if I need you.ā A moment later, he met your eyes and smiledājust to reassure you that he was fine.
With said reassurance, you returned to lying on your stomach and doodling. You stuck the sticky note with flowers onto the side of his desk, and started doodling paw prints and hearts onto the new note. āI think we should go out.ā
āHuh?!ā
Immediately, your heart leapt into your throat. Fuck, thatās not what you meantāwhy did he have to sound so bothered by it?! Was dating you really such a weird ideaā¦? You just prayed he couldnāt see how flustered youād become, tugging at the collar of your shirt. When did your skin start burningā¦? āFelix told me about this nice restaurant and I figured we could go scope it out,ā you said quickly. At least this wasnāt a lie or anything: Felix did send you the name of a nice place for a future date.
āShouldnāt you check it out with him?ā
You rolled your eyes. āYou know how I am.ā
Maybe it was silly, but you had this thing about scoping places out if you knew where someone was taking you. You did the same thing whenever your family was in the area and wanted to check something new out, just so you knew that there was something on the menu that youād like. If someone else was treating you, you always felt guilty if you didnāt like what they were paying for. Jisung asked you once why you didnāt just look up the menu online and pick from there.
You had looked at him that day. āJisung. What if they donāt make it good? What if they add extra stuff I donāt like and itās gross after I ask them to take it off?ā You frowned, hugging yourself. āThen I feel bad for wasting my money, or my dateās money, or my parents' moneyā¦āĀ
He hadnāt questioned you on it further and offered to be your test-date if you needed him. Heād never judge your taste, after all. If he was busy, youād just drag Chris into going wherever with youāalways offering to pay for him even though he had the better job out of the two of you. It was nice to go out with Jisung, though. He always seemed to know what you were going to pick off of the menu, the same way you knew his tastes. Speaking ofā¦
āJisungie?ā You smiled at him, ready to sweeten the deal in a way he couldnāt refuse. āIāll buy you cheesecake after.ā
Immediately, you saw the way he pressed his lips together. You knew one of the ways to his heart and it was always through something sweet like cheesecake. A moment later, he melted, smiling as he turned back to save what he was working on. You left the sticky notes on his desk and hopped up, announcing youād be waiting for him and made your way out. Minho had been curled up on the couch with a book, glancing up when you came in.
āJisung and I are going to get dinner. Are you coming?ā
Minho glanced over to where Jisung had emerged from his room, then shook his head. āI already ate.āĀ
Whatever. The two of you would have fun on your own, then. Through the power of digital maps and following directions, you and Jisung managed to find the place easily enough. The two of you ended up seated in the corner, ordering quickly enough before you were left alone. With a sigh, youād begun to swirl your straw in your drink, mind wandering a bit. Your date with Felix had been nice, but you always felt so fluttery with him. Being around Jisung wasā¦ easier. You didnāt feel the need to force any conversation with him, the two of you were content to have a minute of quiet if that was what you both needed. It was a weird change to feel around him, to be honest. In the past, being around Felix was always easy. Now that you knew he liked you backā¦Ā It was different. You couldnāt help but wonder if things would be different if Jisung liked you back, if this were a date. Then you pushed the thought away: you needed to stop thinking things like that.Ā
āWhatās on your mind?ā Jisung had peeked up at you from where he was scrolling through social media on his phone, frowning a little.
With a sigh, you knew heād pick up on your mood. āI feel like Iām gonna turn into one of those people who only talks about dating.ā You fiddled with the sleeve of your sweaterāyour favorite color this time. āButā¦ā
āIām listening,ā he said. āIs everything okay?ā
Why did he have to look at you so earnestly? Jisung had the prettiest eyes, especially when they looked so shinyālike boba pearls, someone once said. You nodded a moment later. āJustā¦ I dunno. I like Felix, but I keep getting nervous with him.ā You tapped your toes against the floor, a little restless already. āI meanā¦ I know he likes me, butā¦ I dunno. We havenāt kissed or anything.ā
āHas he said anything?ā Jisung ran a hand through his hair, fluffing it effortlessly. How the hell did he always do thatā¦? āWhat are you two doing next?ā
āWe were gonna see a movie and then get food here,ā you paused, looking up from where youād started staring at your hands. āAnd maybe dessert, if heās interested.āĀ
āWas it your idea or his?ā
āHis, butāā
āThen I think youāre overthinking it,ā Jisung said gently. āI thinkā¦ā He trailed off for a moment, and then cleared his throat. āI think he likes you because youāre you. Andā¦ And, um,ā he glanced down for just a second, āand if anyone doesnāt like you, thenā¦ I donāt think they deserve you.āĀ
Your heart skipped a beat. How was he so sweet? He seemed so nervous now, the way he always seemed to get when he was a little more sentimental with you. Like he was treading lightly, so as to not say the wrong thing. Youād told him once that there was nothing he could say that would upset you, and so far that still rang true. You had your fair share of disagreements over the years, but Jisung was your best friend. If you had soulmates in this life, then Jisung was one of them. āJisungā¦ā
He just silently watched you for a moment, gauging your reaction as he carefully tried to find any signs that heād slipped up.Ā
You just buried your face in your hands a moment late, skin burning hot already. Heād melted your heart all too easily, dooming you to pine for him forever. No matter how far you went from him, no matter if you moved on, Jisung eternally had a piece of your heart and he didnāt even know it. Finally, you found the strength to speak, voice small: āI donāt deserve you.ā
Your date with Felix was going well. The movie was fun, and dinner went great (especially going in knowing that you already liked some of the menu). Heād been gushing about video games and the movie, and now he was talking about a new recipe he was workshopping. His fingers were intertwined with yours as you walked aimlessly, no plan in place for where you were going next. You liked how warm Felixās hands were, and the way he would run his thumb over your handājust a tender little way of showing he was still there with you.Ā
āMaybeā¦ I could bake with you sometime?ā You squeezed his hand a little. āIf you want an assistant.ā
He lit up at the suggestion, already beaming again with joy. āIād love that! I could teach you whatever you donāt know.ā He paused, cheeks flushing red. āI thinkā¦ youād be a cute assistant, too.ā
Your heart leapt into your throat at that, face growing warmer at the thought. Felix was always so cute, so affectionate, and the way he giggled at your flustered face only made you more embarrassed. Yet your mind had started to drift to the walk youād taken with Jisung after dinner that night, heading toward your usual place for dessertā¦.
Only to be jostled from your thoughts as Felixās shoulder bumped against yours, getting your attention back with ease. āYou okay?ā He paused, and then smiled as he squeezed your hand. āYou wanna get ice cream?ā
Ice cream sounded perfect. Youād been wanting to bring up dessert, but you werenāt sure if he had room for it after dinner and splitting popcorn with you earlier. Then your mind turned to the brownies youād had with Jisungā¦ āActuallyā¦ Thereās this place I go sometimesāā
āWith Jisung?ā Felix asked. He didnāt seem jealous or bothered in the slightest. āIāve actually been wanting to go there with you.ā
You slowed to a stop. āYou have?ā
He nodded. āYeah, butā¦ I dunno. I guess I started thinking I was overstepping since that place was always you and Jisung. You guys always take us somewhere else if weāre all going, soā¦ā
What?
Felix shrugged, and started walking again. You fell into step with him. He continued on after a moment, āYou two are really close. I meanā¦ Iāve been places with my friends that I havenāt gone with you all, yāknow? Maybe we keep stuff for our friends sometimes.ā
The shop had always been a place for you and Jisung, sure, but neither of you ever intended for it to be exclusively for you two. Minho had gone with the two of you once or twice, and so had Chris. Now that you were thinking about it, this place wasnāt even the place you two used to frequent. That place closed down a little over a year ago, and youād found this place shortly after that. The two of you had gotten a to-go order that first time to try in his apartment and fell in love with the dessert there.Ā
āItās not our place,ā you said after a moment. āIf you want ice cream, we can get ice cream instead. I just started thinking about their browniesāā
Felix was already intrigued. āDo you wanna go?ā He squeezed your hand a little, giddy at the idea. āWe can split one, if you want?ā
Perfect. āIād love that,ā you giggled. āTheyāre huge and they put a scoop of vanilla on top and drizzle it with caramelāyouāll love it.ā
And he did: he fed you the first bite, just to be cheesy. His eyes always seemed to twinkle when he looked at you, so thoroughly endeared to you day after day. Heād hummed in bliss at his own first bite of the dessert before talking about how the salted caramel complimented the sweetness of the vanilla ice cream and the slight bitterness of whatever dark chocolate was in the brownie. It all came together beautifully, and all you could do was admire how pretty Felix was. Heād held your hand again after the two of you left, and held on tight for the entire walk home.Ā
āMay Iā¦?ā
You turned your cheek to him, and he pressed a kiss against it. His lips were soft against your cheek, lingering there for a few extra seconds before he drew away. Heād already started talking about planning your next date soon, leaving it there. He took a few steps back, waiting until you unlocked the door to your apartment before he waved and made his way in the opposite direction. You retreated into your apartment with the sappiest smile on your face, already on cloud nine. In the sanctuary of your apartment, you buried your face in your hands, trying to ignore how heavily your heart was thumping in your ears.
āSomeone had a good time.ā
Chris had stood near the entryway, two glasses in his hands. He must have been on his way back to the living room, and you waved him on as you slipped out of your shoes and into your house slippers. Right as you were ready to tell Chris a little about how your date had gone, you spotted Changbin on the couch. With a polite way, you decided to hold off. Chris could wait to hear things tomorrow, and you told him that as you made your way toward your room.
āDid he walk you back?ā Chris called out, and you hung back long enough to nod. āYou could have invited him in for a minuteāā
āOh, fuck no.ā You loved Chris, and maybe it would have been polite, but he had too much dirt on you. The fact youād managed to be friends with everyone this long without having all your embarrassing stories spilled was a miracle in itself. āI love you, but I donāt need you to embarrass both of us, Chris.ā
Chris only burst into giggles, knowing that you were right and that Felix would have agreed with you in a heartbeat. āI wouldnāt do it too bad!ā
Big brother energy. Big bother energy, too. You opened your bedroom door. āYou absolutely would,ā you called back. āLove you!ā
Yet it was right as you were closing the door that you heard Changbin speak up, clearly not intending for you to hear: āI thought they wereā¦ā Then a pause, just for a second. ā... What about Jisung?ā
You shut your bedroom door as quietly as you could, praying that no one noticed youād caught that. You pressed your back against it for a minute, wondering where you had slipped up. Were you that obvious? Did everyone but Jisung know that you liked him and he didnāt like you back? No. No, no one else could know, right? If they knew, they would have said something by nowāespecially with the fact that you and Felix werenāt hiding the fact you were dating. Speaking ofā¦
You texted him to get home safe, tacking on a yellow heart after it. He attached a little heart to the message soon enough, and you smiled to yourself. Heād text you when he got home, the way he usually did. All you could do now was start getting ready for bed as you let your mind drift back to what Changbin had been saying. If Changbin knew, then there was no telling if heād accidentally spill it. What if Jisung found outā¦? Heād look at you differently, wouldnāt he? Especially since youād asked him to help you get with Felix. What if he connected the dots and figured out that you were dating Felix because you were trying to move on? What if Felix found out and he hated you for itā¦? A world in which Jisung and Felix hated you was one you didnāt want to live in, and your heart began to race at the thought. Shit. What ifā¦? You wanted to reach for your phone, to call Jisung. But Jisung would ask some questions to help you calm down, and you werenāt sure if you could be vague enough to keep him from finding out.Ā
Instead, you threw yourself into doing research for an essay. The less you thought about it all, the better off youād be. The only thing that pulled you out of your thoughts was the text that popped up over an hour later from Felix. Heād sent you a picture of himself with a face mask on, dressed and ready for bed, and apologizing that he didnāt text you sooner. It was followed up with a āsleep well šweāll talk tomorrow, yeah?ā that left you smiling.
Felix was cute. He was sweet. He liked you, and you liked him. All you needed to do was push past your feelings for Jisung, and things would work out. Letting go was the hardest part of loving someone who wouldnāt love you back, and you needed to learn how to do it.
Maybe Felix could help you learn how to do that by loving you extra loud.
āYouāre both slacking, you know!ā
Jisung looked up at the sound of your voice carrying across the apartment. Barely milliseconds later, he heard Minho groan at you for pointing out the fact the apartment was a little unkempt. Fuck, you were here sooner than he thoughtāheād seen your text over half an hour saying you were coming, but you were ātaking your timeā for whatever reason. Youād given him a time, and even still he was surprised by how soon youād showed up.
āI told you to text before you come!ā
Youād stopped for a minute to turn to huff at him. āI did!āĀ
āText me, not just Jisung.ā There was no venom in his words, purely Minho ribbing you, but Jisung jolted from his chair. Shit, his room was a mess still. Minho had to know, didnāt he? This was him giving him a chance to tidy before you came in. āHeās been in his room all day, by the way.ā
āWhat?ā You hadnāt moved. āReally? Is he behind, orā¦?ā
Yes, keep distracting them, Jisung shoved trash into the small trash can next to his deskāall wrappers from snacks. The sticky notes from his monitor were neatly hidden away in the bottom drawer with all the others youād left him. Minho was rattling something off about how he knew Jisung had been hard at work, although heād barely checked on him since he seemed to be focused. Heād tie up the bag and take it out of his room later, after you left. He made up his bed as you asked something about one of Jisungās classes, to which Minho said a curt āI donāt know, Iām not his mom,ā which earned ribbing from you considering how Minho acted like a mom at times. A second later, your voice was a little louder, having stepped closer to his room.
He threw himself back into his chair, pulled his headphones on, and pretended to be hard at work. Donāt notice the fact heās still panting a littleāhe was justā¦ running. A marathon. Really. He heard your quick knock, followed by the creak of his bedroom door a moment later. When you waved your hand in front of his face, he pretended to jolt back, pushing his headphones around his neck as he looked up at you.
With a smile, you held up the takeout. āHow much do you love me?ā
More than you knew. No wonder you told him you werenāt sure youād be there on time. He accepted the bag, already working to undo the knot. āI donāt deserve you.ā
You pulled over the spare chair, pulling it over to his desk. āMinho said youāve been busy all day. Everything okay?ā
He nodded. āJust working on that paper on music history,ā he set aside the plastic-wrapped utensils. āItās due in a few days, but Iām behind on it, soā¦ā
You frowned a little. āOkay, butā¦ Have you eaten today?ā When he didnāt move, youād been given your answer. āAw, Jisungieā¦ā
āIāve snacked?ā
āThatās not the same thing,ā you leaned against his desk. āI guess I came at a good time, then.āĀ
He nodded, pulling the knot undone. He set your food aside. āI think Minho tried to check on me earlier. I donāt really remember.ā
It wouldnāt be the first time, and both of you knew that. āAre you gonna share this time?ā
He let out a groan. One time he ate all the steamed dumplings, and youāve never let him live it down. āI always share,ā he said, setting the container where both of you could reach it. āTake however many you want.ā
āNot those,ā you said, before pausing for a moment. āWell, yes those, butā¦ā You pointed your chopsticks toward his computer. āAny of your work. I feel like I havenāt heard any of it this semester.āĀ
āYouāre usually with Felix,ā he said, voice a little quieter. āI meanā¦ You two are usually going out and doing things, you know?ā He hoped you understood him: you couldnāt be around to hear things when you were out with him.Ā
āNot the entire semester,ā you frowned again. Then you sighed, balancing your food in your lap. āBut youāre right.ā Then you paused, brows drawing together. āWaitā¦ Am I spending too much time with Felix?ā
Jisung shook his head quickly. āNo! No, you two are fineāI just meantāā
You reached out, squeezing his shoulder, āNo, Jisung. Iām sorry.ā
The way you sounded so genuinely upset only broke his heart a little. He didnāt mean to imply you shouldnāt be spending time with Felixāthe two of you were dating after all. āDonāt feel bad about Felixāā
You stopped him there again. āNo, I meanā¦ I know weāre dating, but thatās no excuse to ignore you. I donāt want to be the kind of person who dumps their friends entirely, all just because Iām seeing someone. Thatās not fair to you.ā
His face grew warmer. Had you thought about this beforeā¦? Youād always been so conscious of your friendships when dating in the past. Sure, you spent more time with past partners, but heād never felt neglected. No one did. āYou arenāt dumping any of us. Itās okay.ā
Yet that didnāt seem to stop you. āWe should go out this weekend,ā you said. āLike we usually do. I have to work Saturday morning, but my evening is yours.āĀ
His? Jisung ignored the way his heart skipped a beat at that. It didnāt mean anything. āBut what about Felix?ā
You pressed your lips together. āIf he doesnāt understand ābest friend time,ā then heās not the one.ā You shrugged. āMy partner shouldn't stop me from hanging out with friends. Iām never going to date anyone like that. I wouldnāt want anyone to put their life on pause entirely for me, you know?ā
Jisung had always loved that about you. You loved your friends wholeheartedly, and you were always so, so loyal to them. In your past relationships, youād always found time for friends. They understood whenever you prioritized the relationship during that initial phase, sure, but it always just feltā¦ wrong to drop them entirely during that period. You needed to balance your time, after all.
Jisung swallowed his own pain. āHow are you two?ā
āYou donāt want to hear about us.ā
āI do,ā he insisted. āYou donāt have to share anything, butā¦ Youāre both still my friends. Jeongin said he saw you two on a date.ā
You fumbled with your chopsticks, immediately growing flustered. āOh my god. Felix kept telling me that he was positive it wasnāt himāI knew it was! Holy shitāā
āHe didnāt say anything bad!ā Jisung panicked a little, carefully removing your food from your lap before it could get spilled in your movement. He moved his chair over, giving you some of his desk space so you wouldnāt have to use your lap as a table anymore. āAll he said was that you two were holding hands and giggling. He said it was sweet.ā
You refused to look at Jisung, still too embarrassed to do anything more than push your food around its plate. āHeāsā¦ really sweet,ā you admitted after a moment. āI dunno how I feel, honestly, and I kinda feel bad about that. Heās nice to talk to, and heās sweet, butā¦ I dunno. I keep getting worried that Iām leading him on if Iām not all-in already.ā Your knee bumped against Jisungās. āYou changed the subject, by the way.āĀ
Shit, you caught him. Jisung just moved the dumplings between the two of you again, trying to distract you. When you gave him a pointed look, he knew you werenāt going to drop it yet. With a sigh, he shrugged. āIāll show you after I finish one. They arenāt good yet.āĀ
āBullshit,ā you said. āYour worksā always good. Even when itās a work in progressāI can always tell that you love what youāre doing. I love how devoted you are to itā¦ and to us, yāknow.āĀ
Now it was his turn to be embarrassed, always so easily flustered. How did complimenting him come so easily to you?Ā
āYou donāt have to share it if you arenāt ready or if you donāt want to,ā you said after a moment. āYou can tell me that, though. Iāll stop asking.ā
Jisung looked up, nodding. āLater,ā he promised, running a hand through his hair nervously. āWhen Iām ready.ā
You giggled, squeezing his knee. āThatās all I needed to know,ā you said. āIāll be here for you when you want to share, alright?ā
Tell them. The little voice in the back of Jisungās mind was nagging him again, and all he could do was admire how giddy you were getting over dumplings. He loved how you found joy in little things like this, too. Tell them so they can break your heart and get it over with.
Then something clicked in his mind, something heād glazed over entirely. āYouā¦ might not like Felix?ā
You avoided his gaze, as though you were ashamed. There was nothing wrong with not being sure of your feelings, and yet youād shrunk before him, unsure. āI donāt know. Iā¦ I like him, but Iām not sure how far it goes.ā
āYou should figure it out soon,ā he said softly. Regardless of his own feelings for you, Felix was his friend. You clearly were, too. It was unfair if you stopped feeling things and kept seeing him. āFelix is a really good person. If you want to date him, you should be up front about it. He wonāt hold it against you if you donāt feel the same, you know? Do what will make you happy.āĀ
You looked up from your food a moment later, a soft look in his eyes. Heād seen you and accepted you without any harsh judgment. Someone else might have told you off for being unsure, but not Jisung. Never Jisung. Feelings were complicated, after all. If you werenāt sure, then you werenāt sure. All you needed was time to figure it out. You wouldnāt drag things out to hurt Felix. You turned, leaning over the side of your chair to wrap your arms around him. He relaxed into your embrace, reaching up a hand to squeeze your arm.
āIām really glad youāre in my life, Jisung.ā You shut your eyes, squeezing him extra tight for a second. āI really, really love you, yāknow?ā
Why did that feel like a confession? His heart was racing, and he just squeezed you gently. His eyes fluttered shut for a moment as he savored this moment. āYeah,ā he said, praying that you didnāt notice how warm his face was getting, or hear how fast his heart was racing. āLove you, too.ā
A moment later, you drew away, hands lingering on his arm for a moment too long. Then you were hit with realization. āOh!ā You drew away from him, āI forgot to get us drinks.ā The wheels noisily rolled against the floor as you stood up. āIāll go see whatās in the fridge, alright?ā
Before he could offer to go, you were gone. Jisung watched the door shut behind you, and let out a long sigh as he relaxed into his chair. How long would it take for him to get past this? Every little moment like this with you only made his feelings burrow deeper into his chest. It felt as though heād hit bedrock and somehow managed to keep digging. Something squeezed in his chest, and he felt as though he was going to suffocate in that moment.Ā
Jisung loved you too much, and now it was starting to hurt even more.
Felix wasā¦ Felix. Heād been kind to you from the first day you met him. He was sweet. Sometimes insecure, but most people were, werenāt they? He was warmer than sunshine, though, and you had always felt like you were on top of the world when you were with him. He had that ability to just spread joy in other people, that pretty smile enough to give anyone butterfliesāespecially when you heard his laugh afterward. Heād always drifted toward others, always ready to give a warm hug when someone needed it (or even just wanted it). Felix was sunshine in human formā¦
So what changed? He was smiling that cute, smitten smile that he always seemed to have when he was around you. He played with your fingers, talking about his day and asking you about your own. The two of you hadnāt been going out that long, yet those weeks seemed to shift subtly more and more until you were where you were now. The time he first kissed your cheek felt so distant now. He still liked to press little kisses against your cheek, and you often did the same to him, too. So what was wrong with you? His giggle still made your heart flutter, and the cute face he made when he got flustered was still adorable, butā¦
Chris had paused the movie the two of you were watching one weekend, opting to study you for a moment. Youād been scrolling through your social media feeds, too bored with the stilted leads. They were reciting shitty dialogue written by someone who clearly didnāt know what love was. Then againā¦ What was love like?
āHey. Can we talk?āĀ
You looked up, confused. When did Chris get so seriousā¦? āWhatās wrong?ā
āI love you, butā¦ā He let out a sigh. āI just wanted to say that I think you should cut things off with Felix if you arenāt interested.ā
What? You never said you werenāt interested. Felix was sweet, and nice, and you felt great when you were around him still. āWhat?ā
āI donāt knowāWhenever I look at the two of you now, it looks like youāre always thinking about something.ā Chris paused for a moment, and then frowned at you. āYou know you can tell me anything, right? Iām still here for you. I just donāt want you and Felix to get hurt.āĀ
You hugged yourself. āI know, I justā¦ā
āJustā¦ Figure it out, yeah?ā Chris let out a sigh. āI love you so, so much. And I love Felix, too. When you said you were interested in him, I was really excited for you both, yeah? But, I donāt know, I canāt shake this weird feeling now.ā He paused for a moment, eyes searching your own now. āI didnāt push you into this, did I?ā
āNo! No,ā you shook your head, āyou didnāt. I was crushing on him for a while.ā You drew your knees a little closer to you, shifting into a more comfortable position. āIā¦ I donāt know.āĀ
Maybe you should kiss him. Just to see how it felt.Ā
āI guessā¦ā You trailed off for a moment, hugging your blanket closer to you. āI guess Iām just not sure about anything anymore. I like hanging out with him. Andā¦ I like him. I just donāt know how I feel anymore.ā
Chris frowned as he watched you. He understood, though: feelings were always complicated in some way, werenāt they? āYou should tell him soon once you figure it out.ā The way he was being so insistent on it meant someone talked to him. Was it Felixā¦? Had Felix confided in him? He sat up, reaching for the near-empty bowl of popcorn. He dropped the remote into your lap. āIām gonna make more popcorn. Find something actually good to watch, yeah?ā
āThis was your pick, you know.āĀ
He just rustled your hair before moving on. With a new movie picked out, Chris settled into the space next to you rather than his usual spot. He wrapped an arm around you, pulling you into his side as he pressed a kiss onto the top of your head. Heād always given you little kisses like that when you were upset, and the habit never really died. It comforted you even now, reminding you of simpler times. Heād cared for you once when you were a child, rushing to your side when you skinned his knee. Admittedly it was because youād been chasing after him, but heād cared for you the same way he did for his siblings. He bandaged your knee, kissing it better the way his parents always did before kissing your forehead. His parents told him that it helped it heal faster. And, sure, the two of you had been dumb kids then, but the kisses now always reminded you that you werenāt going through things alone. Chris was always right there with you, the older brother you never had.Ā
It was sweet. At least you would always have Chris in your corner, right next to Jisung.
Felix kissed you.
The two of you had walked home from dinner that night with your pinkies linked together. Youād grown quieter with each step, listening to Felix as he filled the space with soft conversation until it, too, was drowned in the sounds of the night. The sound of cars driving past, the chirp of crickets, the wind as it kissed your skin. But Felix was right there with you, still tethered to you by your pinkies. Even now, he looked at you so sweetly whenever he caught your eye. Heād fixed your jacket, or brushed a stray strand of hair back from your face. When you were finally back in front of your apartment, heād asked if he could kiss you. You said yes, and he closed that distance between you. All at once, you knew: Felix wasnāt it.
Maybe there would never be anyone like Jisung for you. But you couldnāt be upset about that. It wasnāt his fault you fell for him somewhere along the way. And now you were standing in front of your apartment, an eternity seeming to pass as Felix kissed you gently. His lips were slightly chapped this time, fingers gently holding your face. One of the neighbors must have opened their door and seen from the way it opened and immediately shut.Ā
A moment later, Felix pulled away since you never actually reciprocated. The hurt in his eyes told you everything: he knew. His hands were still holding your face, thumbs running over the apples of your cheeks. Shit. Fuck, youād hurt him, all while you were hurting, too. Yet you saw the way he tried to fight back tears, blinking quickly as he took in a shaky breath.
When he spoke, his voice was strained. āThisā¦ wasnāt ever going somewhere, was it?ā
Even after youād hurt him, he was still so gentle with you. You wished he were angry with you, or upset, or anything other than the man who was forcing a smile in front of you now. If he yelled at you or started crying, then you could apologize. You could try to fix things. All he did was keep that forced smile as he drew his hands back, letting them fall to his sides again. With the tiniest step back, your worlds seemed to break apart. Why couldnāt he justĀ yell at you? Youād hurt him, and he justā¦ He looked at you like he still thought the world of you.
āThatās okay.ā His voice was so much quieter. It was as though his sunlight had been snuffed out. āI had fun.ā
āFelixāā
āI mean it,ā he said, taking another small step back. āIā¦ I really hope this doesnāt hurt our friendship. I still like talking to you, andāand I like being your friend. And youāre kind-of good at games, so we could, umāwe could still use yours if you wanted to play with us, andā¦ā
He was rambling. All you could do was step forward, pulling him into your arms to hug him tight. All too easily, he crumpled into your embrace, holding you tight.Ā
āIām sorry, Felix.ā You hoped he would forgive you someday. Not today. Not too soon, not too easily. You didnāt deserve that. āI should have known sooner.ā
He shut his eyes for a moment, taking in another shaky breath before pulling away from you. āItās okay. You didnāt know.ā He paused. āYou should head in. Iām sure Chris is worried. Iāll probably get a text from him on my way home. You know how he isāhe always worries, and, um, heā¦ worries a lot about if Iām getting home safe, andā¦ā
You punched in your apartmentās code, stepping back into the doorway. You turned to face Felix one last time, heart breaking in your chest. He forced one more smile as he looked at you.
āGoodnight,ā he said, voice soft as ever.
You swallowed hard. āGoodnight, Felix. Get home safely.ā
And then you shut the door, securing the door as you pressed your forehead against it. You waited, hoping that Felix had taken off as soon as the door was shut before you slammed your fist into it. Chris was out. You hadnāt seen his shoes when you stepped in, his house slippers left in their usual spot. All too quickly, you kicked your shoes off, heading toward your room as you started to strip off your clothes. You just wanted to be in your pajamas, curled up in bed. The heartbreak wasnāt what was hurting you more: it was knowing youād hurt Felix, and he was going to go home, and he was going to cry because Felix was someone everyone treated with care. He wasnāt fragile, but he was gentler. A softer person. There was a reason why Minho joked with him differently, after all.Ā
At least you were alone now. Chris would have asked questions. Everyone would have, exceptā¦ Youād picked up your phone, opening it up to Jisungās contact. Jisung wouldnāt ask questions. Jisung would hold you and let you cry. But he was Felixās friend first.Ā
All you could do now was send a final text to Felix to get home safely. A little heart popped up next to the message, a sign that he saw it, and you shut your phone off afterward. You dragged yourself to bed, chest heavy and hurting as you pulled your blankets around yourself. Why couldnāt things just be different?
Why couldnāt you just turn your feelings off?
Jisung didnāt speak to you all week.Ā
This wasnāt him getting busy with schoolwork and shutting everyone out to work. Jisung did that with warning to everyone, just so no one worried about him. That was the rule for all of you. Life could be hectic, but no one was to completely shut everyone out without at least some sort of heads up so no one worried too much. Jisung had always been clear with telling you when he needed his space so that you could check in with him occasionally. The one person you needed most right now wasnāt responding to your texts, and that terrified you. He was pissed at you. He had to be, right? You had hurt Felix, and Jisung decided to side with the person heād known longer. Messaging Minho yielded no answer, too. You had expected Felix to avoid you the way he was now, but even he had been more cordial to you. Sure, he was quieter, but that, again, was something you had expected. He apparently came by one day to see Chris, and you had never known until Chris offhandedly mentioned it.
You had to figure things out, which meant asking everyone separately. Chris had claimed he didnāt know anything about what was wrong with Jisung. He never acted any differently when they interacted, although it was a little more rare nowadays. Minho only responded to tell you that Jisung needed space, but that he wasnāt sure what had happened. Felix had messaged you back to first accept your apology for bothering him and then tell you that he wasnāt sure what happened. No one did. Jeongin seemed clueless that anything had happened, Changbin said heād see what he could find out (only to come up fruitless in that attempt), and Seungmin had been buried in his own schoolwork. If anyone had known something, it would have been Minho.
Whichā¦ admittedly was why you decided to wait outside the dance studio he worked at. He was teaching kids dance now, and it paid well enough that he could support himself. Plus he seemed happy, always getting along well with the kids according to Felix and Hyunjin when they volunteered to help a few times. You knew that he locked up in the evenings because he was the last person out, always taking an hour to himself to practice his own dancing. You listened to the jingle of keys and the loud click of the door, followed by Minho making his way down the steps. He noticed you all too easily, and slowed to a stop.
He shook his head, pocketing his keys. āIām not telling you anything,ā he said, as though heād been expecting you to track him down. Maybe he did. Minho could have his airheaded moments the way you had your own, but he wasnāt stupid. āHow long have you been waiting?ā
āMaybe half an hour.ā You crossed your arms, shivering a little in the cold. Maybe longer, actually. āI just want to know whatās going on with Jisung. Iām worried, Minhoāhe hasnāt said anything to me.ā
He sighed, shaking his head. āHeās just going through a few things.ā He stepped down off that final step, making his way toward home. He turned, speaking to you again, āHeās not ready to talk to you, so give him space for now. Heāll talk to you when heās ready.ā Then he turned away again, continuing his walk away.
That wasnāt enough for you. You hurried to catch up to him, āMinho!ā You fell into step next to him. āWhy canāt he just tell me that? Thatās all I needed to hear from him. He knows he can tell me things, I justāā
Minho stopped suddenly, turning to face you. He reached up, hands resting on your shoulders. āWhen heās ready, heāll tell you. Donāt worry about him,ā his fingers dug into your shoulders for a quick squeeze, āIām taking care of him. Just wait for him.āĀ
Before you could question him further, Minho let go of you. All you could do was stand there, stewing in your thoughts. Minho knew, then. What he knew exactly, you werenāt sure, but he at least knew what was wrong with Jisung. You drew your phone back out of your pocket, opening it to your unanswered messages to Jisung. Maybe you shouldnāt have,Ā but you needed to say at least one last thing before you stopped trying to contact him. Just to he knew that you were still on his side:
Iām here if you need me, Jisung. Please take care. Love you.
And by the time you were home, he had reacted with a heart. It wasnāt much, but it was enough to tell you heād seen your messages.Ā
At least heād given you that.
Jisung still wasnāt speaking to you another week later.
He knew about Felix. How could he not know about Felix? He knew that you had ended things with him. He knew that Hyunjin was beyond pissed at you, and he knew youād eventually figure that out. Jisung had spilled his feelings to Hyunjin when he pushed again. That he had loved you for so long now that he couldnāt remember a time when he didnāt love you. Hyunjin, to his credit,Ā had quietly listened to Jisung as he told him everything. Then when he was done, he scowled to himself.
āThey hurt Felix,ā he had said. āBecause they love you.ā
Jisung shook his head. āYou donāt have to say things like that. I know they donātāā
āNo, they do, and you need to realize that.ā Hyunjin crumpled the paper cup of coffee, getting up to throw it into the trash. āThatās why they turned Felix down.ā
What the hellāDid you say something to Hynjin? āDid they tell you?ā
āNo.ā He crossed his arms. āBut I know. Itās a gut feeling. I always thought you were lying to me, butā¦ā He let out a heavy sigh, shaking his head. āYou deserve better than them, Jisung.ā
Immediately, he was taken aback. āWhat?ā
āThey fucked with Felixās feelings,ā he said, āand I think thatās fucked up. I donāt care that they have feelings for youāthey should have left Felix out of it. Why would they do this to him?ā
āThey liked him,ā Jisung said, already quick to defend you. He was hurting, yes, but he wasnāt going to just let Hyunjin insult you like this. You werenāt some cruel personāyou had genuinely liked Felix. What, were you supposed to keep dating Felix when it turned out you didnāt feel the same way? āThey wouldnāt have dated him if they didnāt.ā
āDid they?ā He balled his hands into fists. āOr were they just trying to get over you?ā
āThey wouldnāt have hurt him on purpose!ā Jisung hated how he teared up now. He was angry, he wanted to defend you, and yet the stress of fighting back now was already getting to him. āThey were figuring out how they feltātheyāre not a bad person for figuring out that they donāt like him like that.ā
āI mean it,ā Hyunjin said. āYou deserve better. Felix does, too.ā
Jisung didnāt know what else to say. Nothing he could say would change Hyunjinās mind, would it? He was pissed at you, and nothing Jisung could say on your behalf would do anything. Only you could change his mind.Ā
āIām still here for you,ā Hyunjin said, voice a little softer than before. āI know itās hard. Iām sorry, Jisung.ā
Of course he was still there for him. Everyone would beāincluding Felix, if he knew. He saw a picture pop up a few days later of Felix out with Hyunjin and Changbin, smiling genuinely at the camera. Heād heard about how badly Felix had been hurting those first few daysā. Changbin said heād been crying for so long that night, genuinely heartbroken by how everything had gone down. Not that Changbin was upset with you at all: relationships sometimes just didnāt work out. It sucked that Felix was hurt, but everyone (excluding Hyunjin, whoās loyalty to Felix admittedly blinded him to anything you were going through) understood that the situation was complicated. It had to be, right? The two of you seemed to fit together so wellā¦
Jisung shut his eyes, listening as he reworked this part in his song about you for maybe the millionth time now. The lyrics werenāt completely right, not flowing the way he wanted them to. But heād never been able to get them right every time he tried to rewrite them, and it was too personal a project to ask for a second opinion on. Heād stopped working on it to console Felix at one point, only for him to ask point black if Jisung actually did like you. He denied it. the same way he always did and always would, and Felix didnāt push. Jisung couldnāt like you now. Not when it would hurt someone, and especially when it would hurt someone like Felix. Denying his feelings hurt, but pursuing you just felt selfish.
Suddenly, his headphones were pulled off his ears, and Minho stood next to him. He glanced at the screen and already recognized it to be the piece that Jisung had been working on constantly when he wasnāt working on schoolwork, and sighed. Jisung watched as Minho wordlessly made his way over to his closet, opening the doors and searching through his shirts. He yanked one off, throwing it at Jisung, who scrambled to catch it.
āGet dressed,ā Minho said before Jisung could question him. āChris is on his way.ā
Jisung furrowed his brows. Chris wasā¦? He looked down at the clean white t-shirt in his hands. āDid something happen?ā
āWeāre all going out,ā he said, searching for a clean pair of jeans. He threw those at him, too, and then turned. āYouāve barely left the apartment outside of work and class. Weāre going to sing your feelings out. Bottling them up wonāt help you.ā
Jisung only stared at him. Writing a song about you was the opposite of bottling it upā¦ right? āIām notāā
āYou donāt have to tell us everything,ā he made his way over, giving Jisung a gentle pat on the head. āBut you can depend on us. Weāre here for you.ā
Jisung looked down at the clothing Minho had oh-so-lovingly thrown in his face, and nodded. He left his headphones on his desk, moving to change once Minho had left him alone. Soon enough, he had changed, and even sooner after that, Chris had shown up. If you were upset, Chris hadnāt said a word about it. He just threw an arm around Jisung, already bragging about how heād have the highest score tonight if Jisung didnāt bring his game. It was almost nice to act as though nothing was wrong, even though Jisung saw the concerned looks Chris kept taking.Ā
Heād run his fingers over the smooth seats in the karaoke room, listening as Chris put in an order for drinks and snacks. All of this was his treat, heād insisted over and over. This was entirely his idea, apparently (an idea Minho didnāt refute at all). Jisung kept glancing at the door, wondering if this was some plan theyād concocted to make the two of you talk.Ā
āJisung, you should sing first,ā Minho said, prodding his side to get his attention.Ā
Jisung looked to his two friends, who began to chant his name to motivate him further. This wasnāt a trap to make the two of you talk, then. The tension eased off of him. They wouldnāt do that to himānot like this, at least. He waved his hands, though. āNoāItās fine! One of you can go first.ā
Chris stood up and began to cycle through the songs, humming to himself before stumbling across one. āJisungie,ā he cooed, āwill you sing with me?ā
Of course Chris had found a duet. It was from two members of a popular boy group, and Jisung hadā¦ admittedly listened to it more than a few times over the past two weeks. The song was about heartbreak to the point of begging the listener to say yes, to sing this song with them again, to let them stay again. It was easier to sing alongside Chris than to sing along, to share his pain through another song heād had on repeat.Ā
And it became healing to belt out a ballad with his friends until his throat ached. To break down crying afterwards and be held by them as he sobbed. Something inside of him had finally broken down in the way it needed to. When replacing his battery once, the guy behind the counter told Jisung that it was okay to let his phone die sometimes, because even it needed rest. He didnāt know enough to know if this was sound advice, but he had always kept the advice in mind at least. Was that what this was? Had his own battery finally run out and this was his way of resting rather than tirelessly pushing forward, recharge after recharge? Heād leaned into Minhoās side, sobbing into his sleeve while Chris rubbed circles onto his back.Ā
By the time they left after buying another hour, Jisung felt lighter. He would always carry this heartbreak for you within him, yearning for something he needed to let go of to be better. But more importantly, things finally seemed clearer to him. He knew how to fix his song, lyrics perfected in the back of his mind. He typed them out into his notes app while sitting in the back of Chrisās car, just so he wouldnāt lose them. The melody came to him easierāsomething heād need to change a little to be just rightāand he tapped it out onto his jean-clad leg. The moment he was home, he would put it down onto paper.Ā
And when he finished his song, he could finally let go. Jisung promised himself that he would, and when he did that, he could finally let you back in if you would have him.
Almost three weeks without Jisung, and you felt like you were holding yourself together with thread. At first, youād been angry once Minho told you to just wait for Jisung. If it was this serious, then Jisung should have told you himself that he needed space. A lot of space, apparently. Then came worry,Ā because had you done something to upset him? Was that why he wouldnāt so much as look at you anymore? Had you hurt Jisung without even knowing it. Orā¦ Or did he figure out the real reason why you couldnāt be with Felix? Someone must have suspected your feelings for Jisung now. Chris had to know. Changbin already suspected something. Surely, one of them would have hinted at it to Jisungā¦ wouldnāt they? Night after night, you found yourself searching through every text from your friend group for some answer that you were sure would never come to you. Something that someone had said to hint at what was wrong with Jisung.
And then the answer came to you in what someone didnāt say. Hyunjin had never responded to a single one of your texts. You hadnāt noticed at the time, far too caught up in trying to figure out the puzzle that was Han Jisung and his disappearance from your life. But youād had enough, and if Hyunjin had the answers, then it was time to put a stop to this. Youād buzzed his apartment, and Seungmin let you in without much of a second thought. Hyunjin sat at their dining table, sketchbook open in front of him while he worked on thumbnails for a new assignment. He looked up, and immediately you saw disgust cross his face.
āTell me whatās wrong with Jisung.ā
You werenāt asking anymore: this was a demand. A week ago, you would have scurried in and pleaded for Hyunjin to just talk to you. But the scorn in his eyes was enough to tell you that Hyunjin knew something and, for whatever reason, he was beyond pissed at you. He scowled at you for a moment, but let it go, fading into neutrality. He leaned back after a moment, giving you a quick once-over.
āYouāre being rude.ā
Was he serious right now? Of all the people to deal withā¦ āHyunjin.ā You folded your arms across your chest. āI mean it. If you do know something, then tell me already.ā
His gaze was cold still, expression not betraying his true thoughts. āItās none of your business.ā
āBullshit!ā You snapped at him, fists balled as you stepped forward. āItās been almost three weeks and I havenāt seen Jisung the entire fucking timeāIf itās bad, then at least say that!āĀ
āWhat do you think the problem is?!ā Hyunjin truly was pissed with you, voice now raising as he stood up. He pushed his sketchbook aside to where it would be safe, and stared you down. āYou broke Felixās heart, and itās hurting the rest of usāand you should have thought about that before you asked him out.ā
You sputtered. Was he pissed at you because things didnāt work out? āI didnāt know we wouldnāt work out! What was I supposed to doāpretend I still had feelings for him?ā
āTell him sooner.ā He clenched his jaw. āDonāt lead him on when you clearly have feelings for Jisung.ā
Seungmin gasped behind you, and you found yourself at a loss for words. Hyunjin knew? WhenāHowāHow the fuck did Hyunjin find out? You swore youād always hidden your feelings well, butā¦ āWhat are you talking about?ā
His gaze was ice cold now, and he scowled at you once more. āYou went out with Felix because you didnāt want to admit it. Now Jisung feels bad because he helped set you two up because you askedāDid you even like Felix?!āĀ
āI did!ā You did. You truly did. But not every relationship was meant to lastāand, hell, you never even became anything official. If you could turn back time, you would have ended things sooner. āI did,ā you said, your voice softer as you reined in your temper. āI wouldnāt just mess with Felix like that, Hyunjin. Heās my friend, too.ā You brought your arms up to hug yourself. āHyunjin, do you really think Iād do that?ā
Hyunjin didnāt say anything for a moment, the regret clear on his face. His fingers grazed the wooden table in front of him as he looked away from you, pressing his lips into a firm line. As upset as he was with you, assuming you would be so cruel to someone you both clearly cared about wasā¦ a little too far, wasnāt it? He took a deep breath as he calmed himself down, meeting your eyes after a moment. āI think you need to figure out your feelings. Iām tired of watching my friends hurt.āĀ
āI know.ā Your lip trembled a little, and you fought back the urge to cry. āI canāt help how I feel about Felix, though. I know I should have told him sooner, butā¦ I really, really didnāt know until we kissed. I promise.āĀ
Hyunjin said nothing at first, just watching you. He licked his lips a moment later, swallowing hard. āYou really donāt understand, do you?ā
All you could do was stare. Maybe he would give something away. āWhat?ā
Seungmin spoke up after a moment, āDonāt you have that meeting? For your project?ā He looked between the two of you. He looked at Hyunjin more pointedly after a moment, clearly annoyed at the confused look on his face. āHyunjin.ā
Hyunjin caught on for once, although you could tell that this was some sort of lie. āRight,ā he said, reaching for his sketchbook. āI should go.ā
There was no point in calling either of them out. They werenāt going to tell you anything now, and you needed to reflect on what had happened so far. You apologized for intruding and for coming in so hot, turning to make your way out of the apartment. While you still werenāt sure why, exactly, Jisung was upset to the point of not speaking to youā¦ You understood at least a little more. It felt like everyone knew something that you didnāt, although the answer felt just outside of your reach. How much of it was you not knowing, though, and how much of it was you not letting yourself know? You werenāt sure.Ā
Hyunjin called your name before you left, hesitating before he met your gaze. āI thinkā¦ I think you should talk to Jisung.ā He frowned. āIām still upset with you because of Felix, butā¦ Itās weird that you two arenāt talking at all. Soā¦ā He made his way over, opening the door to leave with you. āTalk to Jisung soon.ā
You would. Regardless of how you came out on the other end, you would talk to him no matter what it took.
Jisung had his favorite studio on the music floor of the arts building. Heād penciled in his time slot at the beginning of the week, and let himself in with the code. This room was the furthest from the entrance, and it had the most comfortable chair to settle in and work in. It was always a fight to get this room, and Jisung was good at quietly stealing a few time slots for himself. He shoved his bag underneath the table, and he put himself to work. Heād need to re-record the piano track for one piece, record the guitar accompaniment for another piece heād been working onā¦ And plenty more that was always best suited for working here rather than home. Using digital instruments only took him so farāthere was something calming about sitting down and playing a piece himself.Ā
It wasnāt until he was playing a piece back that he heard the door click unlocked behind him. When he looked up, there you were. You looked tired. Far more tired than he did most days. What had happened to you?Ā
āHey.ā You stood in the open doorway. Non-music students werenāt allowed in here, but that had never stopped you. Someone had to drag him back home when it was getting too late, after all.
He ran a hand through his hair, hoping that he looked casual enough. āHey.ā
āEverything okay?ā The door slowly fell shut behind you, and you stepped a little closer to him. āItās been a while.āĀ
Three weeks, but whoās counting? Jisung was. He kept counting day by day, hour by hour, trying to whittle down the time further and further until he was strong enough to face you again. āIāve been busy,ā he half-lied. āThatās all.ā
āIs it?ā You frowned, making your way over to the nearby chair. āIf you want me to leave, you can tell me, okay? Iām worried about you.āĀ
Jisung let out a sigh, nodding. āIām okay. Justā¦ā He looked at the piece heād been working on, and thought back to the song heād been writing for you. āIāve been working on a song sometimes. Butā¦ā He looked at you. Maybe youād have the answer he was still searching for. āWhat would you do if you loved someone you shouldnāt?ā
āLikeā¦ forbidden love?ā You tilted your head curiously, frowning. āOrā¦?ā
He chuckled, actually smiling again for the first time in a while. Oh, how he was still so endeared to you. No wonder you were still in your literature program with cute thoughts like those. āJust someone you canāt be with. Likeā¦ā He hummed to himself. It would be another lie, but itād throw you off his trail if you were starting to figure him out. āA friendās partner.āĀ
He could see the way you started to think on that, no doubt making a list of all the friends the two of you had that were dating. Itād vex your brain for a bit, sure, but Jisung didnāt mind. He liked the cute way your brows drew together when you were thinking hard, lips always pressing into this pout.Ā
āThatās what my song is about is all,ā he said. āI havenāt experienced it myself,ā he lied again, ābut I was thinking about it and I wondered what kind of song that would turn into. Itās about someone whoās in love with their friendās partner, and struggling with those feelings. Likeā¦ They wouldnāt do anything to hurt their friend, but they still canātĀ help their feelings.ā
You said nothing to him. Had he said too much? You were figuring him out, werenāt youā¦?
āI just think itās hard to live that life,ā he said. Every time he even thought about you, there was an ache in his chest. Felix liked you, too. āI meanā¦ Imagine loving someone so much that it hurts.āĀ
āI can, yeah.ā Your voice had gone a little quieter than usual. Right. Had you felt that way about Felixā¦? Or were you talking about him now? Jisung struggled more with that one, even though Hyunjin was so confident that Jisungās feelings had never been one-sided.Ā
He met your gaze a minute later, shy to look into your eyes again. Heād always loved the color of your eyes. If he could write songs about how he wanted to drown in their warm, loving gaze, he would. But that was straying a little too far into territory heād sworn away from. āIām sorry,ā he finally said. āI wanted time to figure things out, butā¦ I think Minho would tell you I havenāt talked to most people lately.ā
You nodded. āChris said the three of you went out to a noraebang.ā Your toes tapped against the floor in that nervous way, as though this was a topic you shouldnāt even come close to. āDid that help?ā
Waitā¦ You werenāt mad at him for that. āIt doesnāt bother you?ā
āNo?ā You toyed with your sleeve, not quite meeting his gaze this time. āI meanā¦ It did sting a little bit, but if you needed Chris and Minho, then I canāt change that. All I can do is just kinda hope that they helped you.ā
He didnāt deserve you. Fuck the music for now, heād finished what he really needed to do. He began to shut down the equipment, gathering his things as he stood up, facing you. āIāll buy dessert,ā he said. āIs that okay?ā
it was your turn to smile at him, lighting up his world all too easily. You followed him out of the studio, and he secured the door shut to make sure it was locked. For a moment, his hand brushed against your own, and he yearned to hold it. Another feeling he would have to get used to, he was sure. But all he could do was smile at you, thankful that you were right there by his side for the first time in weeks.Ā
This would be hard, but he could do it. He wasnāt going to lose you again. Not if he had anything to do with it.
Hyunjin had shown up to his apartment for once, and he stood in the doorway to his bedroom. āJisung. Tell them.ā His hand curled around the strap of his bag, clutching it tight. āSoon.āĀ
Minho had told him the same thing ever since the two of you started talking again. If Jisung didnāt want to pursue you, then it was time he learned to let you go. And if he did want to become something with you, then he needed to talk to you. It wasnāt fair to either of you if he held onto this dream of loving you without ever trying. If Jisung couldnāt let himself do it, then why keep hurting himself by holding onto it so tightly? Why not find a new dream to pursue, a new person to love wholeheartedly? Yet Jisung couldnāt imagine a world where he wasnāt loving you in some way. Part of his heart would live and die with you one day, no matter how far away he went. This was his fate now.
āI just got our friendship back,ā he said without looking up again. āI donāt think thatās a good idea.ā
āJisung, they like you.ā Hyunjin said it outright. āSo you need to tell them.ā
Jisung looked up. He knew you liked him. But would he ever let himself fully believe it? It feltā¦ harder to grasp that reality. Heād spent so long telling himself that it was all in his head, that the tender look in your eyes was just you caring for him as a best friend. But Hyunjin was right. Minho had been right. Everyone who had ever told him to just go for it was right. āHyunjin, I donāt know if I canāā
āIām tired of watching my friends hurt,ā he said. āAll of us see it. Why canāt you?ā
Jisung swallowed hard. āWhat about Felix?ā
Hyunjin averted his gaze, frowning. āFelixā¦ā He took a deep breath. āFelix would want you to be happy, Jisung. He knows, too, you know.ā He took a step back. āIām not going to push you. But you should tell them.ā
He said nothing else, and soon Hyunjin left him there. Jisung shut the world out again, listening to his song as it played back to him again. One step closer. Once he finished this song, everything would be okay.
Chris Bang had always been your best friend growing up before Jisung took that title away from him. He was an older brother to you in every way except blood, and that meant he was the one who would have the hard talks with you. Heād come home with your favorite takeout in hand, setting it on the dinner table before saying heād change out of his work clothes quickly. But you knew what was coming. There were only two reasons that Chris would buy your favorite takeout on his way home from work. You werenāt upset, which meant it was time for an adult conversation. One that you wouldnāt want to have, but needed to. Soon enough, Chris had sat across from you, having poured your drink first.Ā
āSo I think we should talk about how youāre in love with Jisung,ā Chris said as he set down the bottle. āOkay?ā
You stared at him, already feeling tears well up. Everyone knew, then. If Chris knew, then there was no way the others hadnāt figured it out. āChrisā¦ā
āItās okay.ā He took your hand in his own. It was time for the two of you to dump your feelings onto the table and sort them out right then and there together. āLetās talk about this, okay? No more running away.ā
No more running away. You breathed in deep, and slowly exhaled. Where to beginā¦? You werenāt sure. So much of your life had become this huge mess over the past few months, and now all those strings were tangled so tightly together that you werenāt sure you could undo the knot.
So Chris squeezed your hand before letting go, turning his attention to the bag of takeout in front of you. āI know you,ā he said. āSo I know you didnāt want to hurt Felix, and I know that you still donāt. Butā¦ I think itās time you put your feelings first for once.ā
āChrisā¦ā You frowned. āIt feels too soon.ā
āI kinda hate saying it, but we all know now. Felix included.ā He set your plate in front of you, and didnāt touch his own. All he did was watch you, waiting for you to say or do anything further. When you didnāt, he decided to continue on, āYou canāt tell me that you donāt want to act now because of Felix. I asked everyone and they all said the same thing: they thought youād liked Jisung for a while before you and Felix dated. After that, they all thought that you two were just that close.ā
āWe are.āĀ
Chris shook his head, saying your name gently this time. āYou know Jisung loves you, right?ā
There was a spike of pain in your chest. Not because you didnāt, but because you did. Hyunjin had all but spelled it out for you before, but seeing Jisung again that day proved it. Youād always thought you were just believing in something that wasnāt there, too afraid to toe the line between friend and more. Tears lined your eyes now, and finally ran down your cheeks as you blinked. All you could do was nod now.Ā
Chris already reached up to wipe away your tears. āItās okay!ā He chuckled. āYouāve gotten so soft,ā he teased. āButā¦ Why did you never tell him?ā
āI was scared.ā You still were, to be fair. āI didnāt know for sure before, andā¦ Now I just donāt want to hurt Felix. I donāt think Jisung does, either.ā
His gaze softened so much. Of course the two of you were still thinking of Felix. Minho had said the same thing to Chris, actually. āFelix wants you to be happy,ā he said. āAll of us do. If that means being with Jisung, then thatās what you should do. Felix is an adult, you know. He might be more sensitive sometimes, but heād never hold any of this against you.ā He cupped your cheek gently. āAnd I really, really donāt think heād want to be the reason you two never tried.ā
You could believe that easily. If Felix knew, heād feel guilty. That you knew as fact.
āAnd if Iām being honestā¦ I donāt think heās the only reason you havenāt tried.ā He pulled his hand away from your face. āSoā¦ Talk to me. Whatās really stopping you?ā
No running away. āWhat if this doesn't work out and I lose Jisung for good?ā
āThereās no guarantee that will happen,ā Chris said.Ā
āThereās no guarantee weāll work out, either.ā You frowned. āIāve heard horror stories of friends who tried to date and it ruined everything.ā
āAnd thereās friends who managed to go back to being friends,ā Chris said. āI really think that you two wouldnāt let it tear you apart. Youāve already been through so much, you know?āĀ
You shifted uncomfortably in your seat. The last thing you ever wanted was to lose Jisung again. If the two of you didnāt work out, how hard would you fight for him? Would he fight for you, tooā¦?
āThe most youāll ever have to do is get space from each other,ā Chris said. āBut I think youād come back to each other.ā
āI think heās my soulmate.ā You hadnāt thought before you said it, the words bursting out of you all too easily. Regardless of whether that was platonically or romantically, Jisung was someone you wanted to keep in your life forever. āButā¦ā
āBut?ā
āIsnāt it too soon?ā You frowned at Chris. āI meanā¦ Felix and Iāā
āIf you donāt go for it now, when will you?ā Chris held your hand again. āIf you arenāt ready to tell him, I wonāt push you to do it. Just because you confess doesnāt mean you have to rush into a relationshipāit just means youāre finally being honest with each other. Go at your own paceā¦ But donāt hold back because of everyone else, okay?ā He squeezed your hand reassuringly. āThe only people in this relationship would be you and Jisung. So donāt include anyone else in this decision, okay?ā
With a nod, you decided to commit to giving yourself three days. One day to make up your mind for sure on whether this was the right move to make. If you were going to confess to Jisung, then you wanted to do it sooner rather than later. The second day was to figure out how you were going to tell him. Over cheesecake, or in through a song, or in the parkā¦ You still had to figure that part out, and you would. It needed to be special.Ā
And the third day was going to be the day you told him.
On the rooftop of Jisungās apartment was a community garden. It brought a little greenery into the city, and it was nice to see the plants that several people often tended toā fresh herbs that Minho would sometimes pick with permission to use when he cooked, a few tomato plants that he often saw people tending to, Things that he didnāt fully understand the care of himself, but he still appreciated the efforts put into it. It was a nice space to sit and think alone sometimes, most of his friends unaware of just how often heād come up here. He could see so much of the city here, too. He was just one person in this great big cityāin the world, even, if he let his mind wander that far. And yet heād found significance through the people he loved, in the passions he pursued.Ā
Heād finished his song for you late last night, and now he was left with this hollow feeling. Heād told himself over and over that this song would be it: one last thing heād dedicate to you, and then heād move on. Butā¦ That wasnāt how it was going to work at all. Han Jisung knew a few things now. He loved you. You loved him. The only question he had left was how to tell you.
Maybe he should have written you a love song instead. Then heād have something, at least.
Heād brought a drink out here with him, settling at the picnic table. He used to bring you up here sometimes, stealing away from the world for a while to just exist with you. Youād share drinks together, and a few times youād ended up rained on. Now, he just lost himself to the playlist heād been listening to, head bobbing along to the music. He could bring you here and confess to you at sunset. Would that be romantic? He didnāt care for it being a grand gesture, as long as it was something memorable. All he wanted was a gesture that told you that he was sorry but ready to face tomorrow at your side, if you would let him be there.Ā
The door to the rooftop had this awful screech that he could hear through his headphones. He opened his eyes, reaching to pull them around his neck and politely greet whoever had come up here. And it was as if youād heard his thoughts, because there you stood in the golden rays of the day.Ā
āHey.ā The door had slowly swung shut behind you as you made your way over to him.
He shyly smiled at you. āHi.ā Now it was his turn to ask: āIs everything okay?ā
You nodded, coming to the edge of the table. āI think we should talk about us.ā
āUs?ā His heart almost skipped a beat at that. Did youā¦?Ā
Oh. You knew.Ā
āItās nothing bad,ā you had said to him, as if it could put him at ease now. āButā¦ā You rounded the table, throwing one leg over the bench heād been sitting on. Instead of sitting normally, you chose to straddle it, just so you could fully face him.
So he matched you, throwing one leg out and turning to fully face you. āBut?ā
āIām in love with you,ā you said, voice wavering ever so slightly now. āAndā¦ And youāre in love with me.ā Youād begun to drum your knuckles against the wooden bench. āAndā¦ And I donāt know why neither of us said anything sooner.ā
Jisung stared at you, face growing warmer. His gut instinct was to deny it, to push his feelings away. But Hyunjinās words rang out in his head: he was tired of seeing his friends hurt. Everyone was now.
āI really wanna be honest with you, soā¦ā You took a deep breath, shutting your eyes for just a moment to center yourself. āHyunjin thought I was using Felix to get over you, andā¦ I just wanted to say that I promise I wasnāt. I really did like Felix, butā¦ā
āI didnāt think you were,ā Jisungās voice was soft, and he reached for your hands. His fingertips grazed your knuckles before he pulled his hands away. Was touching you, even in such a tiny way, too much? āI knew you liked him.ā
You nodded slowly. āGood. Becauseā¦ā Youād grown flustered, averting your gaze. āI.. didnāt know that itād always be you until I kissed him.ā
That time, the world seemed to stop around him. Itādā¦ always be him? āWhat?ā His fingers curled around the edge of the bench. āI donāt understand. What do youāāĀ
A moment later, your eyes met his own. āI think Iāve been looking for you in every person Iāve tried dating, and thatās why itās never worked out.ā Heād already begun to melt, but you continued on, āIf you didnāt love me back, then I think maybe one day I would have moved on. Butā¦ If you donāt, then tell me, and we can pretend this conversation never happened.ā
He shook his head. The last thing he wanted was to pretend he didnāt love you. Yet something ached in his chest. Felix. Even now, all he could think about was how Felix would hurt once he knew the two of you were something. āIā¦ I want to,ā he said, voice softer now. āBut what about Felix?ā
āWould you hesitate if Felix didnāt like me?ā
He shook his head. Never. He swallowed hard, his emotions building in his chest. Heād dreamed of a day like this for so long, always pining over you night after night. He dreamed of kissing you, warm and tender, and saying all the pretty things that came to mind. And now that you were in front of him, he couldnāt help but glance at your lips again. Not yet. āIā¦ā He paused, just to gather himself together. āI didnāt think youād love me, you know.ā
You frowned at him. āWhy not?ā
āYouāre you,ā he said. āAndā¦ And I wasnāt sure if youād ever like me like that. Iāve always known you liked me, but love isā¦ different.ā The paint chips from the bench were flaking onto his fingers now, the same shade of red as your sweater. As his, too. āI know Felix is hurting now, but it doesnāt change how I feel about you. I thought it would, butā¦ā
āI get it.ā You nodded slowly. āIā¦ I also kinda thought things would change. But if everyone wants us to be happy, then I think weāre the only people standing in our way.āĀ
He didnāt want to. Not anymore. Jisung reached forward, this time keeping his hands over your own. āI think we should stop that,ā he said, voice growing quieter. His eyes had grown wetter, tears brimming the edges, and reached up to wipe them away. āSorryāIām getting emotional.ā
āItās okay.ā You scooted forward a little, and Jisung felt his heart begin to race. You were so close he could kiss you. He wanted to kiss you. You reached up, caressing Jisungās face. He already leaned into your touch, eyes fluttering shut for a moment as he savored the feeling. Your hands were so warm, even now. āI think Iāll always love Felix the way I love the rest of our friends. Butā¦ I love you more, Jisung. I know itās early to say it, butā¦ I really think itās you.ā
He opened his eyes, taking in the way the golden rays of the sun were kissing your face. Was it wrong to be a little jealous? Again, his eyes flickered down to your lips for just a second. āCan I kiss you?ā
You said the only word he needed, and he leaned in to close the space between the two of you. His nose had brushed against yours for a moment, already smiling before his lips met your own. Your lips were so soft, and his hands found a home at your waist after a moment. Heād always wondered what kissing you would be like, and now it felt as though heād finally woken up from the longest dream in his life. His eyes fluttered shut as he lost himself in this moment with you.
Heād heard stories before of what it was like to kiss someone after so much pining, after so many trials in the way. People talked of having their breath stolen from them, or being unable to breathe from how surreal it all seemed to be. Yet when he kissed you, it was as though he could finally breathe again. He had resurfaced after drowning in so much self doubt and fear for far too long, and kissing you was living. Yet he knew that if he was given the choice to drown in you, he would have done it without a second thought. As much as youād given him life with only a kiss, filling his lungs with air, heād follow your siren song to the depths of the ocean all too eagerly if it meant he could taste this feeling once more. You ran a hand through his hair, and he was already intoxicated by you, his body yearning for your touch more than ever before. Yet when he pulled away, something had plucked his heartstrings one by one. He let out that broken, stuttered breath that always served as a precursor for him crying. Tears rolled down his cheeks as he gazed at you, trying to commit every part of this moment to memory.Ā
āJisung?ā You were concerned for him even after kissing him, and he wanted to laugh. To cry. To kiss you again. āAre you okay?ā
He nodded, his hands finding your own all too easily. āI love you, too.ā Heād always love you. Whatever part of his heart you had, it was yours to keep regardless of where this went. āI think itās you for me, too.āĀ
By the time the two of you had made it back inside, the sun had set, and Jisung had held onto your hand tightly the entire way to his apartment. Heād given up his bed for you in the past already, heād happily do it again to make sure you had a proper night of sleep. Maybe one day he would fall asleep next to you and memorize every line and blemish on your face, but not tonight. Kissing you and saying those three little words heād always wanted to hear you say was plenty for one day. Yet heād kissed you one last time as he left you at his bedroom door, just to kiss you goodnight.
āJisung?ā Youād called to him as he made his way to the couch, and heād turned to face you one more time. āDream of me.ā
Oh. Oh. His heart had skipped a beat yet again at you. This was his new reality, wasnāt it? He found himself smiling at you, that same shy, pretty smile youād later tell him you always wanted to kiss. Heād dream of you every night if it meant he could wake up to you, too. Tonight would be the end of strife and stress and strain from not telling you how he felt. Now he had to make up for so much lost time.
And if that meant that, starting tomorrow, he would tell you exactly what you meant to him, then heād do it. That was what you deserved, after all, and what he did, too.

Arthur Morgan's Depression
(Warning: Spoilers for RDR2 and mental health issues)
Arthur Morgan is depressed. Yes, I know the writers haven't exactly come out and said that he is depressed, but it does not take a genius to see that Arthur Morgan is a man who deals with many demons and monsters. Arthur Morgan has some sort of functional depression, and it is shown in many ways. In many missions, he seems downtrodden and sad, but he goes along with it anyway because what else can you do? He talks about himself in such a degrading manner in the mirror, and not just in a way that we all do sometimes, but in a way that invokes actual hatred of himself.
He thinks he's ugly when he's a conventionally attractive man. He thinks he's dumb when he's very witty and smart. He gets knocked down for his intelligence a lot by both Dutch and Hosea (we, as a fandom, need to stop pretending that Hosea is perfect because he really isn't). I know that dudes generally joke like that a lot, but those two aren't his āfriendsā; they are quite literally his father figures. It's different. His journal is filled with self-doubt, pain, and a general apathetic outlook on life.
But as I was playing āA Quiet Time,ā one interaction between Lenny and Arthur stood out to me.
āWhy ain't you never married?ā
ā'Cause no one will have me.ā
In the context of this mission, I think this was written as an āoh damnā kinda joke, something out of left field to make the player laugh. But after thinking about it more, I realized something.
If you guys follow my posts, then you probably know that I love to interpret things from a sociocultural perspectiveāso let's do that.
Now, this is an obvious reference to Mary and how she rejected him in the end for Barry Linton to keep her family satisfied. It might also allude to Eliza or other female love interests that Arthur might've had at some point.
But it may also be a nod to the culture of 19th century America and what it entailed for men.
Arthur isn't married at 36 years old. Men were expected to be married generally by their twenties. He has no children or legacyāthe only one he did have died years ago. He doesn't have property or a homeāhe's always on the move with the gang (given how defensive he got with that woman he picks up to go to Lagras, it's probably a point of insecurity). He has no respectable professionāhe should've had an honest career by now.
He hopes that Dutch will get his shit together and have them put their outlaw ways behind them, but Dutch literally cannot, and Arthur is the one feeling the burn for it. He has missed so many milestones that he āshould'veā reached by this point, yet he is still doing the same thing he was doing since he was a young teen.
He can't bring himself to leave Dutch either, as he feels like he has a debt to pay to the man (āI gotta try! I owe him that, at least.ā) that can never be paid.
And that has to fucking hurt. You already hate yourself on the outside by thinking you're hideous. You hate yourself on the inside because you think you're dumb. You feel unaccomplished, like a damn loser. And on top of all of that? You can't bring yourself to let go of all the factors that make you feel that way because āthey're familyā and āthey need you.ā
You're trapped, and everything feels awful. I'd be depressed too.
It might also be another reason why Arthur is jealous and angry at John. He has a wife, he has a child, he doesn't feel particularly obligated to the gang (hence leaving for a year), he has a chance to do better, and he just doesn't care. He's reached so many milestones that Arthur misses not because he wants them, but out of pure luck, and I'm sure Arthur feels bitter about it.
It's just sad, man.

So after obsessing over Arachnis Prime and reading @sonicasura's bat Optimus idea I just was really, really digging it and was inspired to make my own AU similar to it
So basically in this AU both Optimus and Elita fall back into the cavern; Elita's power times out like in canon but Optimus manages to catch her as she's falling. The issue is all that does is put too much sudden weight and tension on his grappling hook causing it to pull out of the rock and send them both tumbling down. The explosion separates the two of them, sending Optimus even deeper in. While Elita becomes Blackarachnia as she does in canon, during and after her change she's looking for Optimus to see if he survived, eventually finding him in a terrible state. He'd run into the cavern's other denizens, massive vampiric and carnivorous bats. He managed to fight off and kill a few but not without serious damage, bordering on death.
In a bid to save him, but also for the selfish reason of not wanting to be a freak alone, she makes him a techno-organic like herself. From there, Optimus lives up to his name for the first little while, practicing with his new alt and eventually managing to fly out of the cavern to watch for any Autobot ships, believing Sentinal will surely come back with or at least send help since he didn't come back for them originally, eventually realizing that Blackarachnia is right, no one is coming.
Well, no Autobots at least. The two get picked up by the Decepticons, Optimus being very much not about the idea but following Blackarachnia almost blindly as he still sees Elita-1 in her and basically owes her his life.
From there it's kind of all over. For a good bit he kinda just follows her around like a puppy and follows her commands; after all initially the idea is for them to return to how they once were, but eventually, Optimus will realize that Blackarachnia is no longer his beloved friend and something will happen to cause him to finally turn on her and split off into his own thing, of what I'm not sure; honestly, it'll more than likely be a build-up of things instead of one big thing.
There's also the debate of how Optimus deals with the Decepticons and basically being one for a while. On the one hand, I like sonicasura's idea of him just being a victim of circumstance. He's not a Decepticon, or in this case, he's only a Decepticon in name, he's just a man who's trying to deal with his current situation the best he can while sticking to his morals and general worldview.
On the other hand, I like the idea of Optimus realizing the flaws and downright failings of Autobot society and becoming a Decepticon for real. He doesn't agree with their morals and what they do a lot of the time, but the ideals Megatron puts forth? He can get behind those, especially since he and Elita were failed by the system they followed so doggedly while Sentinal abandoned them (as far as he's aware) and potentially still gets 'rewarded' (given the rank of Prime and his own team; Optimus would not know he's delegated to bridge repair until later if at all)
More than likely he might fall into a third option of neither, where he abandons the Decepticons like Blackarachnia does but refuses to rejoin the Autobots because of the whole debacle, likely hiding away with the Dinobots on their island.
Also as you've likely noticed I haven't quite come up with Optimus' new name? I'm partial to Chiropteras, as Chiroptera is the order bats are from. I considered going with Optimus Primal since Blackarachnia is also from Beast Wars and a lot of people used/use Tarantulas for spider Optimus before Arachnus Prime was revealed, but my biggest thing is in TFA Prime isn't technically anything special, it's just a rank, so why would he still be Prime or even make it Primal? Unless he's giving himself the rank because he feels he deserves it/is bastardizing it for his own use. I could also potentially use the name of another bat transformer in the way that Tarantulas is the name of a Predacon from Beast Wars but none of them really fit? Cause there's Nightscream, Sonar, and Nyx (and technically Noctorro but he's a bat and a bull). I could use Nocturne or Nocturnus, too.
Lemme know what y'all think?

it's been so long since i did a sith obi-wan au so like - how about an au where the sith are almost as established as the jedi (a temple, an order, followers numbering in the hundreds/thousands) but things are a bit more diplomatic in the galaxy (it's definitely tense but not all out war just yet)
so both the sith and jedi orders are alerted to a new rising power in the outer rim.....on tatooine of all places. a slave rebellion, led by shmi skywalker, has toppled the hutts. it's said that this new leader, queen of tatooine, has the Force's favor....but more importantly than that, shmi skywalker is a new galactic player, with a lot of money and a lot of support.....and a son of marriageable age.
cue both the jedi and the sith sending a delegation to tatooine - ostensibly to nurture galactic relations between their orders and the new power, but also to lowkey seduce shmi skywalker's son into marriage/a relationship because everyone knows that a parent's heart follows their children's happiness.
sith!obi-wan aka darth solence is selected to lead the sith seduction attempt. he's pretty confident - after all, he's led hundreds of seduction missions at this point, and he'd suffer a thousand different humiliations for the sake of the order of the sith who took him in after the jedi sent him to the agricorps.
the only problem is that he arrives on tatooine and shmi skywalker's son, anakin, is the most bland, boring, two-dimensional boy to ever breathe. he's completely uninterested in politics, in history, in the Force---he'd rather talk about pod-racing and--and Coruscanti daytime holo shows than anything of actual interest!
good thing the prince's manservant, kitster, is almost always hanging around. he's wrong about many things, obi-wan finds, but he's passionate. passionate and beautiful. oh, he loves pod-racing just as much as the prince, but he's fascinated by the Force and ready to tear obi-wan's eyes out over a passing negative observation on a droid. and did obi-wan mention that he's beautiful? with his golden curls and sky blue eyes and fierce scowl and broad shoulders and prominent eyebrows and even more prominent lips? the sith, as a general rule, appreciate passion, anger. beauty. obi-wan adores them as well.
but kitster the man servant isn't the person obi-wan has been flown to tatooine to seduce--he's duty-bound to seduce prince anakin. even if being around him feels like pulling his teeth out with rusty pliers.
if only obi-wan knew that shmi skywalker is more suspicious about the galaxy than she lets on. more protective of her son, too. if only he knew that her son, anakin, had a best friend growing up named kitster, who owed them both just enough life-debts to convince him to trade places with shmi's son for the length of the delegations' visit.
it's an easy sell after all -- who doesn't want to be a prince for a few weeks, no harm done?
#kit's silly lil aus#obikin#one day darth solence will catch on#its the only thing i want someone to like enough to use in their fic#come on!! darth sidious...insidious....darth vader....invader....darth solence...insolence...it fits bitchy obi-wan so well#anyway it was an embarrassing few minutes i spent rummaging through my brain trying to find the masculine word for handmaiden#i was like kit come on you read so many fucking merthur fanfictions in 2012#i remembered its manservant#but anyway to get to the actual tags for this au#she's so dramatic omg i love her (the au)#it's basically some sort of prince and the pauper situation??#yeah i did originally type princess and the pauper because my exposure to that story was the barbie computer game no regrets#only overshare

this is going to sound slightly stupid iām begging you to bear with me
you know those fanfics from like 2013, the rpfās that (usually) were about musicians like harry styles or brenden urie?
theyād go something along the lines of, ānot-like-other-girlsā sitting in the crowd of a concert her friend dragged her out to, but she just doesnāt care about the music itās so not her thing so she reads a book during the concert (cue the groans). then the lead singer sees her and is totally taken by her uniqueness and calls her out from the stage or asks to see her after the show yada yada.
anyway, i saw some fan art of rockstar!crowley and normie!aziraphale, and i thought itād be fun to see if thereās anything similar to those kinds of rpfās but instead for crowley and aziraphale!
We have a #famous crowley tag you can check out. Here are some fics in which Crowley is famous and Aziraphale is not...
A rockstar's love by The_boxhead (G)
Crowley had a lot of problems finding someone to have a relationship with as the famous rockstar that he is. But that day when he entered that coffee shop and saw that blond haired man behind the counter, he didnāt want more than to get to know that beautiful angel with that cute smile.
Star Crossed by AppleSeeds (T)
When Crowley, the lead singer of wildly successful rock band The Sixth Circle, agrees to take part in a radio show discussion feature, the last thing he expects is to come away from it completely smitten with a man who must be the world's most adorable magician. Crowley's uncharacteristic behaviour towards Aziraphale during the show doesn't go unnoticed by the listeners, with speculation soon running rife online. Only one thing for it - Crowley just needs to engineer an opportunity to see Aziraphale again. All in the name of generating publicity, of course.
Never Too Late by AppleSeeds (T)
It's been thirty-five years since the height of Aziraphale's enormous crush on rockstar Anthony Crowley, but when he sees that Anthony is still performing, Aziraphale feels he owes it to his younger self not to pass up the opportunity to finally hear him sing live. The last thing he expects is for Anthony to actually approach him once the concert is over, extending an invitation that surpasses every fantasy Aziraphale harboured about him as a young man and resulting in the most memorable night of his life.
The Only One I Still Know How to See by Furuba_Fangirl (E)
Aziraphale has been an admirer of Anthony J. Crowley for years. However, the gap between audience member and stage actor begins to thin when they are given the chance to officially meet.
Soho by Lurlur (E)
Aziraphale lives a quiet kind of life, running a quiet specialist bookshop in one of the liveliest districts of London. He's content with his lot, happy with his friends, tolerant of his probably-human housemate, living vicariously through the gossip pages. One day, a chance encounter with Anthony Crowley, lead singer of wildly successful rock bandĀ The Demons, threatens to turn his whole world upside down.
Find the Light by klikandtuna (E)
I saw a collection of gifs on tumblr combining David Tennant as a rock star and Michael Sheen as a school headmaster (see the notes of Chapter 1 for a link to the post!) and someone said that it ought to be a fic, sooooo I've made it a fic. Here's a heapin' helping of rock-star Crowley and headmaster Aziraphale! Now with shiny new cover art, also by me!
Win a Date With Anthony J. Crowley! by Caedmon (E)
Crowley is a world-famous rock star who sells out arenas. His name is synonymous with 'rock-n-roll', and he thrives on the spotlight. When he agrees to raffle off a date with himself for charity, he's expecting to meet an overzealous fan that wants to wear his skin and very well might try to roofie him. What he'sĀ notĀ expecting is to be instantly attracted to the quiet man with the unusual name who shows up for the date at the Ritz... and he'sĀ certainlyĀ not expecting for Aziraphale to have no clue who he is...
