ok now that my joke post about how kabru looks like an evil advisor but is actually just a guy helping out his friend by providing an accessibility need has over 10k notes, are we ready to talk about orientalism and the evil vizier trope and how the whole meta joke of kabru as a character is that he triggers all of these red flags associated with brown antagonists but he's actually a really upstanding guy? and how that panel is a continuation of that joke?

Hi guys, this is sort of my official "please, for the love of god, listen to Skyjacks with meā€ post because Iā€™m losing my mind and all the content I can find is from the latest stuff right now, and I donā€™t want to spoil myself. I want to be able to talk about this with people!!!! I will make a watch (listen) party discord if there is enough interest. Just give it a chance; you wonā€™t regret it. Also, some information may be wrong or outdated. Iā€™m on episode 11 out of over 200.
Skyjacks is a ttrpg podcast about sky pirates in a world where there was a catastrophe about 200 years ago that left the sea unsafe to sail and maybe even damaged the entire world to the point where civilization is scattered and in small groups. There is very casual queer rep, and itā€™s casual to the point where it really just fits into the world perfectly.
A brief summary of the premise of the first episode will hopefully get you hooked. Iā€™m really bad at summaries, but I promise itā€™s a billion times better than how I talked about it here:
Captain Orimar Vale is dead, and a mutiny will be on Gable, Jonnit, Travis, and Drefā€™s hands if they are unable to keep up the ruse of him being alive. To do this, necromancy (deeply forbidden magic) is performed by the Dref, the ship's doctor, to turn him into a semi-functional zombie. Captain Orimar is famous for his abilities as a captain; to replicate this will take great skill.
As they run out of supplies, they make a desperate decision: port on the land of one of Orimarā€™s scorned lovers or deal with the growing uneasiness of the rest of the crew. They havenā€™t seen their captain healthy in months, and whispers about his health are starting. However, greater danger will await them when they take to the skies again, lurking just beyond the cloudsā€¦
And more propaganda as to why I think you guys will like it:
There are unique and interesting gameplay mechanics they use to tell a really cool story, and if you like Hermitcraft or any other sorta storytelling-based SMP, I promise youā€™ll like it. Like. If you liked Boatem from Hermitcraft 8, youā€™ll love the characters in Skyjacks. The players are exceptionally good at playing their characters, their humour is unmatched by anything similar Iā€™ve had the pleasure of seeing, and the story is prioritized, which I think is an amazing choice.
Best part? Itā€™s still ongoing after, like, 5 years. Some people have left, but a good chunk of the OG cast has stayed. Not that leaving is bad, because holy crap, 5 years is a long time, and stories have to end at some point! Itā€™s a good way of getting into something and knowing there is still a shit ton of content to be explored.
The music is good. The story is good. The characters and humour are amazing. The lore of the world is sprinkled throughout, and as you learn more about the world, the more excited you get. Itā€™s incredible so far, and if you decide to listen to it, I will actually love you forever and ever. My boyfriend is on episode 190, and he finds it so funny every time I go. Oh my god, this is so cool.
Link to the podcast, but in a playlist (up to 180). So itā€™s in order and easy to find, since itā€™s a part of something else from the oneshot network:

Aventurine would like to say that stepping out of the IPC building for the last time is like a breath of fresh air, but instead it just feels like a slap in the chest. It makes him breathless and his chest tight. His shirt wraps around his waist too tightly; he can feel the way his pants hang on his hips, digging into the side of them. The world around him is blurry, and the sounds all too loud.Ā
ā€œWell now, dear Gambler, what are you going to do now?ā€ Ratioā€™s voice cuts through the world like a sharp, static-y knife. The rest of the world withers away as Ratio steps in front of Aventurine, his head slightly tilted. ā€œWhatā€™s your plan now that you have been freed from the IPC?ā€Ā
Aventurine brings in a shaky breath ā€” one that Ratio hopefully doesnā€™t notice but knowing him he does. ā€œI suppose I'll have to find my way in the world without them. A place to live is probably a good start, wouldnā€™t you agree, Doctor?ā€ The IPC had owned everything that had ever ā€œbelongedā€ to Aventurine after all ā€” the only thing he had left to his name was a bank account with a hefty sum left in it. Itā€™ll last him for a while, thankfully, but it wonā€™t last forever.
Ratioā€™s eyes furrow. ā€œDo you mean to tell me you donā€™t have lodgings anymore?ā€Ā
ā€œI lived in the IPC building, Ratio. Canā€™t exactly live there anymore if Iā€™m no longer working for them,ā€ Aventurine explains with a shrug. So heā€™ll have to find a place to live, that surely canā€™t be too hard. Heā€™ll just have to hang out in hotels until then. With how impulsive this break away had been, Aventurine certainly hadnā€™t gone out looking for places beforehand.Ā
ā€œLive with me,ā€ Ratio all but blurts out suddenly ā€” it sounds nearly more like a demand than a suggestion. The usually stoic doctor covers his mouth with his hand as he clears his throat. ā€œI have a spare room in my apartment that I do not use. You are welcome to use it if you wish until you are able to find your own place.ā€Ā
ā€œOh?ā€ Aventurine laughs with a shake of his head. ā€œAnd here I would have thought you would never want to see me again after this. Are you saying you want to live with little old me, Doctor?ā€ Ratio only scowls at him in answer ā€” and Aventurine knows that it's used to tell him that heā€™s wrong in that regard. ā€œThank you,ā€ Aventurine breathes out, and he knows that itā€™s more than just for the offer to stay at his place. ā€œI think Iā€™ll take you up on that offer, if you donā€™t mind.ā€Ā
ā€œI would not have offered if I had minded, Aventurine. If you are free now, Iā€™ll show you the way and grab you a spare key.ā€ Ratio begins to walk, only getting a few steps before he stops and turns back around to Aventurine. ā€œYou do not mind cats, do you? Or, cat adjacent creatures, at the very least.ā€Ā
Aventurine lets out a true laugh ā€” not a forced one that he feels he needs to continue his act, and he finds that it feels good to laugh like that. He decides that heā€™ll try to do it more often. ā€œAnimals love me, Doctor, you should know that by now.ā€ They tend to flock to him ā€” he thinks it's because he usually runs warm and they treat him like a heater.Ā
Ratio lets out his own rare laugh. ā€œI suppose they do, donā€™t they?ā€ He shakes his head. ā€œCome along then, Gambler. We best be going.ā€Ā
Aventurine smiles. ā€œLead the way, Doctor.ā€Ā
here, have the first 600 words of my latest wip. it's totally not a present to you guys because i got 2k into it and then scrapped it all since i thought it worked better another way lmao

the common fanon is that they met over the eight dead bodies of agatha's original coven. and it makes as much sense as anything else
I know this wasn't a prompt but. I'm feeling fic-ish after all the unfinished questions. I'm not fact checking anything against canon, buckle up and come along for the ride if you please. How did they meet.
Agatha is reeling. She's sobbing. She feels like she can't pull enough fresh air into her chest. She's on her knees, surrounded by the mummified corpses of her coven. Of her mother. Of the only family she has ever known. The only thing she can see through her tears is purple light. It's cracking around her, popping and sparking and warm against the cool New England night.
And when she lifts her head, there's a soft green glow in the distance. She blinks once, twice, and her vision goes from purple to green, with a face alarmingly close, wide eyes peering at her curiously. Surrounded by calm green light, she can finally pull in a full breath of the cool night air, and another, and another. And suddenly, she's breathing rather than sobbing. And the dark eyes are still on her, brow furrowed in concern.
Moments pass, maybe seconds, maybe hours, with both of them breathing in unison. Just... breathing. Remembering how to breathe. Learning, perhaps. For a moment, she thought she might have forgotten how. But it's coming back to her. She's coming back to herself.
The purple has calmed too. It's dancing quietly along her fingertips now. Her vision is clearing. The woman's eyes are still on her.
Agatha knows all the women in town. This one is different. Unfamiliar. Clothes of moss and bark that almost appear to be growing from soft flesh. The woman tilts her head curiously, and Agatha mirrors the gesture. "Who are you," falls, unbidden, from her lips.
The woman startles, as if crashing back to reality, the soft calm in her eyes giving way to something else, something, for a moment, almost skittish, as her gaze flicks to the bodies. But Agatha shivers, and sways, exhaustion catching up to her. How long have they been here?
All at once, the ground seems to be rushing up to meet her, but not as quick as the woman. Her landing is soft.

ngl it makes me want to die a little bit that it's so often trans people who feel that sex is mutable but oppression is always-forever based on asab in ways that allow them to demand that information from other trans people. like it feels fucking bad. it feels bad when it's people holding up someone who posts a lot of selfies as transition goals to a degree they have to clarify what they have or haven't done or what "direction" they're going in, it feels worse when people are out there like "caster semenya is not tma" or whatever the fuck. i am, as always, not a trans woman, but here's a sentiment echoed by many of the trans women around me who log the fuck off, quoted directly from one: "people who draw a clear line where they say that semenya or khelif are tme and then call me tma are just calling me male at this point".
like i get it. i really do. we seek community and shared experiences, and we feel betrayed when people have less in common with us than we thought they did. [*more on this later.] but that's not those people's faults and my god in the case i'm seeing play out on twitter rn this poor person did absolutely nothing to intentionally mislead people, just posted pictures of their actual kid self. who looks a lot like i did, because shockingly enough "we can always tell" doesn't fucking work for trans people either!
on the one hand i move in intersex circles which are unapologetically welcoming in cis "dyadic" people with pcos, because it serves nobody to draw a clear line where mutilation or genetics or some ineffable childhood suffering are what make somebody intersex, especially when most of us (esp in places like nz) have never been karyotyped and are being treated for symptoms without a pinned-down cause anyway. the more of us there are the stronger we are, the more pressure we can exert on a medical profession which doesn't like to consider how common outliers are, how uneasy sex is at all. and then on the other hand there's dyadic trans people on the internet who've yelled me out of spaces because a couple of traumatised incarcerated trans women i worked with as a prison abolitionist assumed i was also a trans woman and i didn't immediately tell them my entire csa-involved history of being sexed in varying ways as an infant and child and/or exactly how big my phallus was at birth or where in my junk config my urethra lives so they could decide i was tme or whatever.
returning to the * for a related but not identical thought: i think presuming shared experiences leads to some fucked shit in general! "oh we all had a radfem phase" or "oh we all were channers" no we fucking weren't and it's particularly obnoxious when me & mine are trying to build trans community locally to organise and resist the growing wave of far-right backlash against our existence, and there's just white people in there on a spectrum from "straight up being antisemitic and trying to get the n-word pass" through "handwringing about how they need to make space for people who aren't politically correct" to "handwringing about how brown people are right to be mad at them but doing shit fuckall". and then the other fucking brown people in the space are on some identity politics shit where they're like "trans joy inherently excludes those of us who could get deported" or "big city white queers are killing us by being visible instead of going stealth bc it stirs up the discourse" or whatever the fuck i've heard pulled out this year. there's a bunch of reasons i primarily organise outside of trans spaces and that's one of them. i've never felt more alone in spaces where people claim we're all the same than being left as the brownest moderator or organiser in a space full of people to whom "this is a safe trans space" apparently means they get to abdicate all other responsibilities not to lapse into presumed shared patterns that are fucking racist or otherwise alienating. i've never felt more alone than surrounded by exclusively trans people who sort people into boxes and assume everyone in those boxes has the transition goals they have. like i was on cypro until it disagreed with me to the point of endocrine crisis and now i'm on t and at both those points people were so fucking presumptive or entitled to my reasons or journey or personal relationship w my body
literally just submitted on (and was invited to consult on) the nz law commission's review of the human rights act and like. it's straight up fucked how many nz trans people fully do not comprehend that any "sex assigned at birth" type definitions fundamentally exclude migrants who have no way of proving it and many intersex people who happen to have been reassigned later or many times or never assigned at all as a baby. we can't make law with this shit and that's why we have to have symmetrical protections for all genders/sexes/expressions/presentations, bc naming and defining a protected class here often leaves the people who already are left out from those shared experiences of marginalisation out in the cold when they face violence
#reblogs turned off because obviously i'm already bracing to be pilloried for saying one thing not quite correctly or whatever#and also bc i have zero interest in having this be boosted by trans dudes on their own transandrophobia agenda either#i'm just venting#but frankly the first time i got yelled at for saying that as an intersex person some of the immense violence i experienced as a child#was motivated by transmisogyny#i was a teenager and it was someone a fair bit older than me with more local clout so like. it's been a decade. how is it worse now.#intersex spaces have made SO much progress and yet#also yes i'm femme! i'm femme in a trans way! many dykes who aren't women are!#many of us got more comfortable w it as adults who had gender agency!#in literally the same way it took my wife ages after transitioning to work out she's also butch and doesn't actually want to do femme thing#bc that's a shared experience in how we've navigated the expectations of womanhood before opting out of the parts we don't want!#anyway the lawcomm shit was fucked bc honestl i don't give a shit if someone lost their gonads as an adult in an accident#they should be protected even if they don't consider themselves intersex#and we know that gender as an axis of oppression comes back to the reproduction of the nuclear family#and that cis women who can't have kids sometimes become the political football though ofc not as much by far and like#idk. y'all ever heard about solidarity? sometimes i feel like i'm back in the place where the loudest traumatised person at the party#is yelling at another young woman like ā€œyou'll never understand what it's like to be a victimā€#when said young woman was assaulted the week before.#a politics that starts by defending and defining oneself w oppression kinda fucking sucks actually#and intersex people stopped policing intersexness by who got mutilated a long time ago#bc actually we want the generations ahead to not get that treatment#and when i see ā€œtrans eldersā€ going on about how ā€œif you pass and got on hrt before 18 you're not trans like i amā€ i'm like. why! what!#anyway. tired.#may regret this. we shall see#tony muses

Did you see the Pratchett humble bundle?
https://www.tumblr.com/kadharonon/739254452885798912
Yes! I've been meaning to make a post about it, I just haven't had the time, so let this ask be that post!
Humble Bundle currently has a bundle for 38 Discworld ebooks for 18$. The deal, however is only for US residents. The only books not included in this bundle are The Last Hero, Raising Steam and The Shepherd's Crown.
If you love Discworld and would like to get a bunch of ebooks for a great price, or know of anyone that might be interested, make sure to tell them about this!
