Text
Aventurine would like to say that stepping out of the IPC building for the last time is like a breath of fresh air, but instead it just feels like a slap in the chest. It makes him breathless and his chest tight. His shirt wraps around his waist too tightly; he can feel the way his pants hang on his hips, digging into the side of them. The world around him is blurry, and the sounds all too loud.
“Well now, dear Gambler, what are you going to do now?” Ratio’s voice cuts through the world like a sharp, static-y knife. The rest of the world withers away as Ratio steps in front of Aventurine, his head slightly tilted. “What’s your plan now that you have been freed from the IPC?”
Aventurine brings in a shaky breath — one that Ratio hopefully doesn’t notice but knowing him he does. “I suppose I'll have to find my way in the world without them. A place to live is probably a good start, wouldn’t you agree, Doctor?” The IPC had owned everything that had ever “belonged” to Aventurine after all — the only thing he had left to his name was a bank account with a hefty sum left in it. It’ll last him for a while, thankfully, but it won’t last forever.
Ratio’s eyes furrow. “Do you mean to tell me you don’t have lodgings anymore?”
“I lived in the IPC building, Ratio. Can’t exactly live there anymore if I’m no longer working for them,” Aventurine explains with a shrug. So he’ll have to find a place to live, that surely can’t be too hard. He’ll just have to hang out in hotels until then. With how impulsive this break away had been, Aventurine certainly hadn’t gone out looking for places beforehand.
“Live with me,” Ratio all but blurts out suddenly — it sounds nearly more like a demand than a suggestion. The usually stoic doctor covers his mouth with his hand as he clears his throat. “I have a spare room in my apartment that I do not use. You are welcome to use it if you wish until you are able to find your own place.”
“Oh?” Aventurine laughs with a shake of his head. “And here I would have thought you would never want to see me again after this. Are you saying you want to live with little old me, Doctor?” Ratio only scowls at him in answer — and Aventurine knows that it's used to tell him that he’s wrong in that regard. “Thank you,” Aventurine breathes out, and he knows that it’s more than just for the offer to stay at his place. “I think I’ll take you up on that offer, if you don’t mind.”
“I would not have offered if I had minded, Aventurine. If you are free now, I’ll show you the way and grab you a spare key.” Ratio begins to walk, only getting a few steps before he stops and turns back around to Aventurine. “You do not mind cats, do you? Or, cat adjacent creatures, at the very least.”
Aventurine lets out a true laugh — not a forced one that he feels he needs to continue his act, and he finds that it feels good to laugh like that. He decides that he’ll try to do it more often. “Animals love me, Doctor, you should know that by now.” They tend to flock to him — he thinks it's because he usually runs warm and they treat him like a heater.
Ratio lets out his own rare laugh. “I suppose they do, don’t they?” He shakes his head. “Come along then, Gambler. We best be going.”
Aventurine smiles. “Lead the way, Doctor.”

Heeeeyyy 9, 16 and 43 for the writing asks?
I have the object permanency of an infant, I totally forgot about this ask meme two seconds after I reblogged it LMAO
9. What are your favorite fanfics?
...REMEMBER WHAT I SAID ABOUT OBJECT PERMENANCE? I don't uh, I don't remember if I actually do have any favorite fanfics LMAO. I'm terrible like that. Buttt, after looking through my bookmarks, I do have a few that I think about often enough! I'm suuper into Friday Night Funkin' currently, but I'll try to mix it up a bit for variety!
bop beep means: i'm sorry by aifizao
A hanahaki Friday Night Funkin' fanfic about Pico's "one-sided" affection for Boyfriend. I really enjoyed the emotional turmoil and descriptions throughout the fic, and the writing style and format is something I can bump with. Does it end well? No. But I'm a sucker for well-executed tragedy and I can't get those final scenes outta my head no matter what, and honestly, they are allowed to live rent free in my head :)
Countdown to April 30th by pankocrumbs (candidcacotechny)
A Pico's School fanfic (with a bit of Friday Night Funkin' mixed in, but it's mostly Pico's School) that takes a very realistic and respectful retelling of the events of the titular game. Pankocrumbs does an amazing job with taking the base game and expanding on the characters and relationships throughout the fic, focusing more on character study and respectful, careful attention to detail that blows me away every time I think about their fic. I especially enjoy and LOVE their depiction of Nene and how her role functions in the overall fic. This one also lives rent free in my head, and I will never evict for as long as I'm into this fandom.
Rewind & Remix by TIM
A Little Nightmares 2 fic where Mono saves a Nome instead of Six in the Hunter's hut. The Nome, who is actually RK, ends up following Mono around on his adventures, and the two develop a fun friendship of protectiveness and care as they traverse the Pale City. It's a retelling that I love dearly, solely because it's a well-written take that explores a "what-if" situation in curious ways. It's still on-going, and I'm DREADFULLY behind, BUT, I'd still recommend this one to any Little Nightmares fans out there!
static by grumpyhedgehogs
A Little Nightmares 2 fic where Mono struggles through his endless loops and tries to break out of it. Focuses a lot of his struggles, but also shows off how Six also struggles to help him through Mono's POV (what's this?? UNRELIABLE NARRATOR MY BELOVED??) Mono is actually a very reliable narrator, but his thoughts and observations on Six's actions lend a lot to helping, but not outwardly stating, Six's true intentions, and just how much she knows about the situation. One of my favorites out of all the fics out there exploring the loops and how the dynamic duo breaks out of them.
Destiny's Kinda Overrated by Forestwater
An oldie but a goodie! Soulmate aus are my guilty pleasure, and Forestwater did an excellent take on how one can have not just one, but two soulmates while ALSO exploring what could happen IF you lost your soulmate. You might've read this one already, but I figured I'd drop this one on here as one of the few Camp Camp fics I recall fondly.
Memory Lane by Cloudbustings
I had to really search for this one, but it's an incomplete Camp Camp fic that has the Camp Trio stumbling across boxes of recordings and photos that belong to David, showcasing a mysterious boy named Jasper. I think it was going in the direction of: Who is Jasper and why doesn't David talk about him if he's so important to David? The fic is incomplete, but I loved the concept of it, and I think about it every once in a while since fics about discovering photographs and the mysteries and histories behind them always makes my heart go HUAAGHH-
16. Do you use sentence starters, writing prompts and/or fandom headcanons for your fanfics?
Hilariously enough, I rely on pretty much none of those! Most of my inspiration comes from music I stumble across, The Current Amount of Stress I Am Under, and dialogue ideas I come up with on the spot or with friends. On occasion, I do maybe sometimes use fandom headcanons for my fics, but it's usually in ways meant to subvert or change up a bit to my liking. Music is my LIFE however, so really my idea spawning tends to happen when I'm going through old playlists or rediscovering songs, and me going, "Hey, this fits this character really well. How do I make it work?" and then going off of that.
But if I'm super stressed out, I just write character death LMAO WHOOSP
43. Guilty pleasure tropes and scenarios?
hhuturhghushfaahh, hanahaki, cafe/bakery/flower shop meet-cutes, and flsdfklds winged folks. I've written at least one fic for each of those, but hahahfsdhfkjalsd boy do I love. All of those. OH I'm also suCH a sucker for reincarnation and Groundhog Day like scenarios, just the idea of trying hard to break out of the monotony of tragedy really gets me going.
