harry potter is NOT james potter.
I love parallels. I love people reminding others of those they've lost along the way.
But Harry Potter is not James . And that is so vital to his entire character.
When people see Harry, they see James. They see a James who sees the world through Lily's eyes. When they see Harry, they don't see Harry.
And that is so vital to his entire being. It's vital to how people see Harry. The people that didn't know James, see the Boy-Who-Lived.
The people who did, who were close to Harry, to James, to Lily. They see James and Lily Potter. They see the people who died, people they were close to, people they miss every day but will never see again.
Remus, Sirius, Snape, McGonagall.
At first, they see James and Lily. And then when they meet him - apart from Snape- they quickly realise he is anything but.
Harry is not arrogant, rich, spoilt. He doesn't have an ego, he doesn't play pranks, he isn't a chaser, he doesn't pick fights.
Harry isn't exceptionally bright at everything he does, he isn't inconceivably forgiving for those who don't deserve it.
He is not Lily and James.
When peole write Harry as a golden retriever, as effortlessly good at everything, they aren't writing about Harry.
Harry who grew up not wanted. Harry who grew up believing something was wrong with him. Harry who was forced into the wizarding world with no knowledge. Harry who is as stubborn as a mule,. Harry who is loyal to a fault, who forgives those he loves, Harry who isn't his parents.
He has traits of them, their anger, their ability to love, and much much more.
BUT Harry Potter isn't them. He isn't the 'best of them both' he isn't James or Lily or Sirius or Regulus.
Harry Potter is Harry. Just Harry.
And that is why he doesn't get along ith Snape. That's why McGonagall believes Harry dragged Neville out for a joke in first year.
When people see Harry, they don't see Harry. And by writing Harry as somebody else, or as 'so-and-so's child' you're not doing the character justice.
'I want a complex character with complex relationships'
'i want an angry character'
'i want to read a book that makes me think'
you couldn't even handle Harry Potter.

a touch that never hurts | fred g. weasley

summary: you seem to have fallen for your best friend, which you could handle if only he didnât constantly touch you word count: 3.2k masterlist
It was official: you were stupid.
Only a complete idiot would fall for their best mate and here youâve gone and done it. Because there was no other explanation for this feeling in your stomach as you looked across the Great Hall and watched Fred Weasley tell some stupid joke to his friends and wishing nothing more than to be the one he told the joke to.
He wasnât even supposed to be here; just earlier today, Snape had given him detention.
While working on the assigned potion, he decided to mix things up to make you laugh after your bad day.
Before class started Snape decided to ruin the day and give everyoneâs essays back. You flunked. Hard. After a big explosion and an awful lecture from Snape, any of Fredâs afternoon plans were ruined. For you.
You stood there, frozen in shock, trying to figure out how to go on with your life from here.
But how could you? This realization felt like the worst thing thatâs ever happened to youâright after becoming friends with Fred Weasley himself.
You mustâve stood frozen in place for too long because he caught your eye and was now waving you over with his typical charming smile while the people around him were continuing their conversation, oblivious to the turmoil inside you. You briefly considered turning around and running away, but you decided against it. That would make this situation even more awkward than it already was.
Taking a deep breath and mustering a wobbly smile, you made your way over to the Gryffindor table. You exchanged greetings with your friends and headed toward a seat, hoping to get as far away from Fred as you could. But, of course, Fred had other plans. With a grin, he shoved Lee aside and proudly declared the seat next to him as free.
Bloody hell, he was making it hard for you. Itâs as if he knew and wanted to torture you now that you had finally realized your true feelings. Feelings that didnât actually exist; denial was your new best friend.
With no other choice, other than making this one hell of an uncomfortable situation for everyone, you reluctantly sat down next to him, trying to put as much distance between you two as possible.
But to no avail. As soon as you sat down Fred swung his arm around your shoulder and pulled you closer to him. âThank Merlin youâre here. Could you be a darling and tell our idiotic friends that Snape does in fact secretly love me and that is the only reason he so often chooses to see me after class?â
âDarlingâ and âsecretly loves meâ, seemed to be the only thing your brain registered, not to mention that arm still wrapped around you. Has he always been this physically affectionate with you? It was hard to remember because Fred was looking at you expectantly as if he were waiting for something andâŚ
Finally, your brain catches up, âOh, that my dear Fred, is what we call detention. And wouldn't you know it, you're supposed to be there... like right now!" You playfully glanced at your imaginary wristwatch.
You could practically see the second he realized you were right. In a hurry, he jumped up from his seat and snatched the last food from his plate. But there was something important he seemed to have forgotten.
With a grin, you asked him, "Aren't you forgetting something?" Confusion washed over his face as he turned back to the table, searching for what he had missed, not finding anything. After a brief moment, he leaned down and surprised you with a kiss on your cheek. Speechless and mouth agape, you watched as the rest of the table erupted in snickers.
"You git!" you exclaimed, feeling your cheeks burn. "I meant your wand!"
Instead of being flustered like you, Fred found the whole situation hilarious. He joined in laughter with his friends and sent you a playful wink. With a glint in his eye, he swiftly retrieved his wand and innocently exclaimed, "Oops!" before making a speedy exit from the Great Hall.
Still trying to process what just happened, you turned to your friends, hoping they could provide the distraction and peace of mind you desperately needed.
Just when you thought it couldn't get any worse, George decided to torture you. With a grin, he leaned in and asked if you've figured it out yet. Your whole body tensed up, and you found yourself desperately wishing for an escape.
In your horrified state, you managed to stammer out a weak, "W-What?" The anticipation of his response hung heavy in the air, and you braced yourself for the worst.
George burst into laughter, which echoed through the Great Hall, making everything feel ten times worse. You couldnât help but feel exposed, as if your deepest secrets were on display for everyone to see.
Through his laughter, George managed to squeeze out, "Bloody hell. Looks like someone forgot the essay for McGonagall that's due tomorrow."
You breathed a sigh of relief, realizing that he had no idea. How could he? You yourself just figured it out. And youâd do anything to keep it that way. You wonât tell a soul about any of it and just pretend that things were normal.
â§
How naive could you be? How in your right mind could you ever think that keeping this from Fred was a possibility?
He knew you better than you knew yourself.
No matter how hard you tried to keep things like always it just wouldnât go your way. First everything was completely normal, nothing out of the ordinary. You two would banter and share jokes. But as soon as he touched you in any way you panicked and run away from him.
You hadnât realized how often he reached for you. It apparently had become like second nature for him.
At first you noticed the small touches, like accidentally bumping shoulders while walking together or him gently tapping your arm to get your attention.
But it was the larger gestures that pushed you to your breaking point, stirring up your traitorous heart even more. Like when he reached out and grabbed your hand in the bustling crowd of students during a visit to Hogsmead.
But the absolute worst was when he would slide in next to you, casually drape his arm around your shoulder and pull you close, all while effortlessly engaging in conversation with someone else. And what made it even more unbearable was that no one seemed to bat an eye. It was as if this physical closeness was an unspoken agreement between the two of you, that no one remembered to inform you about.
But as much as you tried to subtly keep your distance you could tell that Fred knew something was wrong. He saw it in the way you would purposefully choose to sit the furthest away from him even when the seat next to him was unoccupied.
You saw the confusion in his eyes when you started to avoid going to Hogsmead with the excuse of finishing your school work. He knew that this was never something that stopped you from spending time with him or your friends.
Since that first year you met Fred on the train, heâd been a constant presence in your life. You stumbled upon Fred and George pulling a prank on their older brother Percy. Instead of telling on them, you decided to join in on the mischief. As a result, Percy ended up with boils all over his face. From that moment on, you and Fred became inseparable. So, when you suddenly started pulling away without any explanation, it felt like the most awful thing you could do to him.
And you could tell that it was hurting Fred too. He wasn't the type to wear his heart on his sleeve; in fact, quite the opposite. But after all the years you've known him, you were priding yourself on understanding him better than most people in his life. He would never outright admit it, but your actions were causing him pain.
He would extend his hand, reach out, but as soon as he noticed that you turned away from him, he would pull back. In that fleeting moment, you could see the hurt and confusion reflected in his eyes, mirroring the hurt you were experiencing.
He even attempted to talk about it once. Normally, he would rely on laughter to uplift your spirits rather than delve into the realm of emotions. So when he approached you before your class, specifically to ask if you were okay, it created an awkward conversation for the both of you. All you could do was promise him, that if anything was wrong, youâd tell him.
What a lie.
His genuine concern shattered your heart. But it wasn't just him who could sense that something was off. You noticed how your friends would exchange worried glances every time you came up with a new excuse to avoid spending time with Fred.
Being around him became an unbearable risk, fearing that he might somehow discover your true feelings for him. It wasnât just a simple crush; your feelings ran deeper, more intense.
Every time you witnessed his infectious laughter or his ability to light up the entire room with his jokes, a swarm of butterflies erupted in your stomach, consuming you from within. The guilt of keeping such a significant secret from him and the rest of your friends gnawed at you. But the thought of confessing your feelings and potentially jeopardizing everything held you back.
It has gotten to the point where you chose to spend your free time in the library. You knew that he would never step foot inside of it. So this place became your sanctuary.
But you shouldâve known better. Fred Weasley may not be an overly emotional person but he was stubborn to no end.
One night after dinner, that ended with you leaving the table as soon as possible and an excuse, truthful this time, to do your unfinished homework you returned to the only place that felt safe from Fred.
There were only a few students left in the library. You grabbed your Charms Book and settled into a quiet corner, hoping to review your homework for Professor Flitwick.
But your silence was soon disturbed by the one person you wanted to avoid. Which was not entirely true.
The situation hurt, but you couldnât help wanting to see him â even if only from afar.
Fred appeared to be searching for you because the moment your eyes met, he marched over to where you were sitting.
"Back to doing homework, huh?" he asked, glancing at your table.
"Actually, yes," you replied honestly.
âOi, sod off. I know you mostly just sit here doing nothing â Lee saw you, you know?â he said.
âI donât know what Lee thinks he saw but thatâs not the truth. This is a library. I study,â you argued.
âListen, I know youâve been avoiding me. And I have no idea what I couldâve done. Youâve been blowing me off left and right. Youâre being pretty obvious and I think itâs time we had this discussion.â
You stared at him, eyes wide open. âI donât know what youâre talking about. I already told you, everything is fine.â
âCome off it! Weâve been friends for years and I know when somethingâs off. Youâve been avoiding me and you have been for weeks. Iâm done pretending like I donât know that. And things arenât fine since you wonât tell me what it is. Whatâs this really about?â his voice was low, but you could feel his anger seeping through.
But you couldnât tell him; too much was at stake. Youâd lose your best friend. Even the thought alone was too much to bear.
âFred, please. I just⌠I canât explain it to you,â you pleaded.
âWhy the hell not? Iâm your friend!â You appreciated his concern, but his persistence was becoming overwhelming. âIf everything truly was fine you wouldnât be hiding here all the time! Whatâs going on?â he demanded, clearly just wanting answers, answers you couldnât give him.
âI really canât tell you. Please, Iâm begging you, let it go.â Keeping this from him was killing you. You felt awful holding this secret from him. Deep inside you entertained the notion that he felt the same, but doubts held you back. It was pain-filled hiding something so important from a person that meant so much to you. You wished that he felt the same way, but fear gripped you tight.
Fred's anger was palpable, evident from the fury etched on his face. Madam Pince was shooting both of you disapproving glances. You secretly hoped that she would kick you out, giving you an excuse to escape this conversation.
âNo, Iâm not giving up. I deserve answers and Iâm not leaving until I get them, understood?â He defiantly took a seat right in front of you.
You remained silent, refusing to speak another word. The more he pushed, the harder it became to keep this from him.
âIâve got all night. Nowhere else to be,â he stated, arms crossed, his gaze fixed on you. Still refusing to speak, you turned your attention back to your essay, hoping he would eventually relent.
After a few minutes, he broke the silence. His voice now calm and his expression blank. No trace of anger or irritation. It almost seemed like he had come to accept the situation.
âMaybe this is for the best. You clearly donât want to talk to me, so Iâll guess I wonât bother you anymore,â he said in a monotone voice, before he abruptly stood up and started to walk away, not looking back once.
Hot panic was surging through your veins and in an instant you jumped up, to go after him. Realizing that you were about to lose him either way, you took a chance.
âI like you!â The words echoed through the quiet library, their volume seemingly too loud for the stillness around you. He paused in his tracks, but didn't turn around. Unable to see his reaction, you continued, thinking maybe it was better this way, shielded from the potential disgust his face might reveal.
"I like you, and I'm really sorry, okay? I just need some time to sort things out and get over these feelings. I promise, but right now, I can't be around you. Not right now. That's why I've been avoiding you. Please, please don't hate me," with every word, your desperation spilled out, raw and unfiltered, while your eyes began to burn.
As Fred slowly turned around, his expression was unreadable, and it felt like everything was falling apart. Immediate regret was filling you up. Maybe, if you wouldâve stayed silent and kept on ignoring what was going on inside of you, there would have been a chance to mend the friendship later on. But now, it felt like it might be too late.
âYou like me?â he asked, his voice filled with bewilderment.
âPlease, donât make me say it again,â you pleaded, feeling overwhelmed by the situation.
His expression slowly transformed into a wide smile, "You're not kidding. You actually like me?"
Confused and feeling a sense of panic, you asked, "Why are you smiling at me like that?"
Fred's grin widened, making him look like a complete idiot, "I can't control it. You've just made me the happiest person in the world. Do you have any idea how long Iâve been hoping to hear those words?"
Silence filled the air. Your heart skipped a beat. "What?"
âI like you too, I was just waiting for you to catch up,â he confessed with a soft grin, his hand nervously rubbing the back of his neck.
"So, that's why you were always touching me?" you asked, trying to make sense of it all.
He let out a loud laugh, quickly quieted by a stern look from Madam Pince. He sent her an apologetic smile before refocusing on you and speaking in a hushed tone.
"And here I thought I was being smooth about it. I've been trying to let you know for a while now, actually."
âBloody hell. You mean you felt the same all this time? Why on earth didn't you say anything?" You were in disbelief, feeling like you were in a dream. Maybe you had dozed off while reading about The History and Evolution of Enchantments and Charms Throughout the Ages.
"Well, why didn't you?" he asked.
"You've got me there," you said with a quiet laugh, looking down at the ground. After a moment of silence, you glanced up and saw him smiling softly at you.
"So... what's the plan now?" you asked, seeking some clarity.
"You like me, I like you. It's pretty clear, isn't it?" he responded.
You squinted your eyes at him, still not fully convinced.
"Now I can touch you as much as I want, and you can't escape anymore," he said with a mischievous grin, taking a step closer until he stood right in front of you.
"Oh, Merlin. You're a git," you exclaimed, unable to hold back a laugh. "Why on earth do I like you again?"
âBecause Iâm just that irresistible, obviously,â he laughed, joining in with you.
You placed your hand on his chest and playfully gave him a nudge. But before you could pull away, he surprised you by grabbing your hand. As you looked down at his hand enveloping yours, he posed a question. "So, about you admitting you like me... do you wanna back that up with a kiss?"
"Mhm, I'll have to think about that," you teased, raising an eyebrow. "I'm not sure if you deserve it, to be honest."
He grinned cheekily and retorted, "Oh, I definitely deserve it. What have I ever done to not deserve it?"
âLetâs try and remember. Just last week you-â
As you were about to list all the things he had done, he surprised you again by silencing your words with a passionate kiss. In that moment, your thoughts faded into insignificance, consumed by the intensity of the kiss. His hand gently caressed your cheek, deepening the connection between you. Your emotions were running wild, and it felt as if your body was ablaze.
After a moment or an hour, he pulled back, and you took a deep breath, trying to regain your composure. Opening your eyes, you gazed up at him.
"Sorry, I interrupted you. What were you saying?" he asked, his playful tone laced with a hint of mischief.
âI canât remember,â you murmured, connecting your lips with his once more.
Youâd been wrong all alongâfalling for your best friend might have been the best idea of all.

Retired!Severus Snape is a menace. To have you as his young little wife? Pfff! Sign him up! He'd come home from doing backyard work without magic because with magic is too easy. And he hates easy things. It makes everyone want to do it and it loses it's sense of uniqueness, you know? That's one of the reasons of why he married you. Saw you with your friends in a bar and he knew you weren't easy. But as we mentioned before, he loves hard things. That man can handle a challenge, and after being a teacher since the beginning of his thirtys...God knows. God knows.
His stamina is truly mesmerizing. His words. The way he carries himself and carries you when you can't...hot. BURNING HOT. We love a man that can be his own and yours fully, if you know what I mean.
And in bed? You know things will get NASTY when the lights turn red. You could be sitting in bed with a book, in your pj's after a long day of house cleaning, sitting with a cup of ice cold water in your night table and the AC on after a shower; but when that man does nothing but lay an eye on you...Sorry, Odysseus. He's going to be the one to make Troy burn and put off the fire in the same night.
Retired!Severus Snape would eat anything you make. And I mean anything. So when he started to gain some weight, he started to hit the gym. You tremble everytime it comes to mind. And he was slowly...developping...a dad bod.
A DAD BOD.
Retired!Severus Snape loves cuddles. Triply adores smex. â¨ď¸smexâ¨ď¸
Loves to have your attention and will do anything to get it. And in that spicy time, he doesn't let you look away from his two obsidian eyes as he makes you slowly tremble and break with every thrust he makes you take.
Retired!Severus Snape holds your face in his hands as his thrusts become handy, making you look up at him as his lips form a pout and he speaks dirty things to you, knowing you can't handle it for too long.
He loves when you read new things and want to try them out. When you told him to try the leaning thing on the doorframe...?
...
..
.
A moment of silence, please.
Hardcore. All night long. Like animals.
Next question.
Or when you told him the "Think fast, I'm a random girl." And tried to kiss him? He pushed you outside the house and locked you out. That night he had to make it up to you even tho it was your idea, because he knows how girl math works, and even if it was YOUR IDEA, HE locked YOU, OUTSIDE! He didn't use his wand. It was too easy to push you outside. What would you do? Push him? And he also made sure you didn't have your wand with you, so that way, it was easy for him to lock you out, but not easy for you to come in. He does some easy things, but when he does, he'll make sure you won't have it easy to have your way around. Sorry, baby.
Retired!Severus Snape who LOVES sundresses. Not on anyone. But on you. They're too easy to just simply raise up the skirt and pum. Let's go. He doesn't argue with this type of easy. He's a weak man in this element. Don't tempt him, he'll fall. Without thinking twice. And he gets drunk on you easily too.
When your father found out you had married an older man...he didn't take it very well, and after he came to your house, your husband's rest place, to bother the person who is his peace. That will certainly not end well. The next day your father texted you saying he was dissapointed. Saying Severus was probably just a pervert who was taking advantage of you and he would be soon tired of you and you'd return back to your parents home. That morning, Severus had woken up early, and when your phone dinged he saw the message first.
Suffice to say he spent the whole morning between your legs. Just because of that message. "Only weak men give up. Quitting is easy, pumpkin." He muttered and looked you straight in the eye, taking your hand and burrying it in his hair, eating you out like a starved man. "And I," he a long, lewd lick in between your folds "Don't like," another one, pushing a little deeper this time "Easy things."

Could you do an imagine in which reader is some popular kid in Hogwarts, maybe she stands up to the marauders and later Snape snaps at her that he doesnât need help and she calls him silly boy and happy ending with them as a couple?
SILLY BOY
pairing : severus snape x reader
genre : fluff
summary : as in the request
youâve always noticed snape. most people donât pay much attention to him, especially the marauders, who make it their mission to torment him every chance they get. today, though, itâs particularly bad. theyâre cornering him in the hallway, mocking his clothes, his hair, and making cruel comments that you canât ignore. theyâre relentless, and itâs almost like theyâre having fun with it.
you watch from a distance, anger bubbling inside you. youâve always hated how the marauders treated snape, and today, something in you snaps. youâve had enough.
âoi!â you call out, marching over to the group, your voice firm. âleave him alone.â
james, looking amused at first, glances at you with a raised eyebrow. âwhatâs this? got a soft spot for snivellus now?â
âshut up, james,â you snap. âheâs not the one who deserves to be made fun of.â
âoh, really?â sirius says with a sly grin, his eyes narrowing. âand whyâs that?â
âbecause he hasnât done anything to deserve this. youâre bullying him for no reason,â you argue, standing your ground. âif anyoneâs got something to prove here, itâs you four.â
snapeâs eyes flicker to you for a moment, but he doesnât say anything. he looks surprised, but thereâs something in his expression you canât quite place. youâve never seen him look so⌠vulnerable.
remus steps forward, looking uncomfortable, as always when the marauders go too far. âmaybe we should just go,â he says quietly, tugging on siriusâs sleeve.
after a few tense seconds, the marauders reluctantly back off, though their scowls are still directed at you.
as the group disperses, you turn to snape, whoâs still standing there, looking a bit shaken. you want to say something, but youâre not sure how to approach him. before you can speak, snape turns to leave, his usual scowl back in place.
âwait,â you call, stepping forward. âare you okay?â
he freezes, then slowly turns back to face you, his expression unreadable. âi donât need your help,â he says, his tone harsh but lacking the usual venom. âi can handle them.â
âsilly boy,â you reply with a teasing smile. âyou donât have to handle everything on your own. no one does.â
his eyes narrow, but you can see the faintest hint of something softer behind his glare. âi donât need anyoneâs pity,â he mutters, looking away.
âitâs not pity,â you insist, taking a step closer. âitâs just.. being a decent person. something they clearly donât understand.â
heâs silent for a long moment, his gaze flickering back to you. âyou think you know everything, donât you?â he finally says, his voice a little quieter than before.
you shrug, feeling bold. âi think i just know you better than they do.â
snape looks away, his jaw tightening. thereâs something about the way you stand there, so confident and unwavering, that makes him pause. for the first time in a long time, he feels like someoneâs actually seeing him, not just as the quiet, brooding boy with a chip on his shoulder, but as a person. someone worth caring about.
âdonât make me owe you anything,â he says, but thereâs no malice in his words, just a quiet vulnerability.
you smile, âyou donât owe me anything, silly boy."
over the next few weeks, you find that your encounters with snape become more frequent. itâs subtle at first, just small exchanges during class or passing glances in the hallways. but slowly, the tension between you two starts to shift.
there are moments where he seems less like the bitter boy he used to be and more like someone who might actually want to be around you. his usual scowl softens when you catch his eye, and the sarcastic comments he makes toward you hold a hint of teasing rather than malice.
the sun was beginning to set, casting a soft golden glow over the grounds of hogwarts. the air was warm, the sound of laughter and chatter from students drifting from the castle. but you and snape had found a quiet spot away from everyone else, sprawled out on the grass near the edge of the forbidden forest. the tension of exams and school life felt far away, the only thing between you and snape being the peaceful silence that had settled over the two of you.
you lay on your back, staring up at the sky, the clouds moving slowly above. snape was lying beside you, his arms folded across his chest.
the silence stretched between you two, but it wasnât uncomfortable. it was the kind of silence that felt natural, like there were no words left to be said. still, you couldnât help but turn your head to look at him, a soft smile playing on your lips.
âyou know, i never thought iâd be out here with you like this,â you said quietly, your voice almost lost in the breeze.
snape glanced at you, his dark eyes locking with yours. âand whyâs that?â he asked, his tone still laced with that familiar sarcasm.
you chuckled. âbecause of everything⌠everything weâve been through, and how we started.â
he was quiet for a moment, his gaze flickering to the sky as well. âit seems strange, doesnât it?â he murmured. âthe way things change.â
you nodded, your smile softening. âi guess some things just take time.â
snape exhaled slowly, then turned his head to look at you again. there was a vulnerability in his gaze that you hadnât seen before. he shifted closer, his voice low but steady. âiâve never been good with⌠people. with this,â he said, the words coming out almost like a confession.
you turned to face him, propping yourself up on your elbow. âyou donât have to be perfect, severus. you never did.â
he glanced down at the grass for a moment, the weight of his thoughts pressing on him. âi donât know if i can ever be what you deserve,â he said, his voice barely above a whisper.
you reached out, gently touching his hand, your heart softening at the rawness in his voice. âyou already are,â you said, meaning it with everything you had.
snape seemed to pause at your words, his eyes searching yours, as if trying to understand the depth of your sincerity. then, without warning, he spoke again, his voice quieter than ever.
âi love you, y/n,â he said, the words heavy and genuine, more than just a fleeting confession.
your heart skipped a beat. for a moment, time seemed to freeze around you, the world feeling as though it had narrowed down to just the two of you, lying on the grass beneath the vast, open sky. you smiled, your eyes softening as you leaned in slightly.
âi love you too, severus,â you whispered back, your voice just as quiet, but filled with warmth.
there was no need for anything more. no grand gestures or dramatic proclamations. the moment felt perfect in its simplicity. you both just lay there for a while, the world moving around you, but in that space between you two, everything felt still, calm, and right.

a humiliatingly long character analysis of lily evans
Someone sent me an ask that briefly mentioned how misunderstood Lily is, and before I knew it I was typing out this monster. I am. sorry. This is literally just me rambling about her, what I find compelling about her character, and why her character is so often misunderstood.
This is long as hell so I'm putting it under a read more lolol
Part of the reason I like Lily so much (other than my being ginger and projecting onto any redheaded female character I see) is that even though she isnât explored as much as her other Marauders Era counterparts, we know enough about her to start building the framework for her character. And what I see is a girl who was incredibly interesting, kind, and flawed.
One thing I always think about in regards to Lily is that she was dealt with a pretty unfair hand. As soon as she receives her letter, sheâs basically torn between two worlds, both of which have been less than welcome to her. On one hand, we have the muggle world that sheâs known all her life, but once she starts integrating into the wizarding world, she likely feels a bit of a disconnect with that world. To twist the knife further, her sister- whom she loved dearly and grew up so close with- starts outwardly resenting her with such unbridled hostility that they likely couldnât even be in a room alone together without major conflict.Â
On the other hand, we have the wizarding worldâ a world sheâs not as familiar with and one she soon learns holds a demographic of people who hate everything she is and would rather see her excommunicated or even dead. And even though finding out youâre a witch/wizard is probably such an exciting and life-changing moment, I canât help but also take note of the difficulties, especially if youâre the only one in your family with magic. Youâre essentially uprooted from the only way of life youâve known at an already complicated age, and now you have to quickly become acclimated to this new world that you only just found out existed. Not only that, but now youâre suddenly attending a school with classes that are primarily focused on this world of magic (which is still brand new to you), and you have to work extra hard to play catch up in order to do well. Like, that all seems like⌠a lot for a kid to handle.
And then I remember how young she was when she was thrown into that mess. She was only 11, and kids that age desperately crave any sense of belonging. I mean, thatâs something that still holds true for adults, but itâs especially critical for a developing child. So imagine Lily, ages 11-15, struggling to stay afloat in this weird purgatory between these two parts of herself, both of which have been the cause for major and traumatic experiences relating to rejection in her life.
(I say it was the âcauseâ even though itâs obvious that those things were never her fault at all, but when youâre a young kid navigating the world, the only thing youâre able to process is that the common denominator is you, therefore youâre the one who must shoulder the blame.)
So now we have this tween-teenaged girl who has a dysfunctional relationship with two major parts of identity and probably feels absolutely lost.Â
This is why her hesitancy to end her friendship with Snape makes sense to me. Even though by fifth year heâs already well past toeing the line with the dark arts, Lily was willing to overlook some pretty egregious and troubling things in order to maintain the relationship. I kind of interpret that as her way of desperately clinging on to any sense of belonging she has left; her relationship with Petunia has already been poisoned, and now there are people who resent her existence as a witch; if she loses Severus too, what and who else does she have? And what tone does that set for her, if everyone and everything sheâs come to hold close to her ends up turning her away?
Itâs also important to note that not only is Severus one of her few remaining connections to the muggle world, but heâs also a wizard who grew up in the muggle world; he understands her, and I donât doubt that he gave her some stability at times when she needed it (her finding out about her being a witch, her having trouble acclimating to the wizarding world, etc).
I see this as being one of her flaws and I can actually appreciate how relatable and realistic it feels. Lily is not a bad person; on the contrary, youâd be hard pressed to find anyone to describe her as such. Not to get all clinical and boring, but the interesting thing about (unhealthy) coping mechanisms is that it can actually be really hard to identify them in your own behavior. Unless youâre in therapy and/or are actively psychoanalyzing yourself, you likely donât even realize how many of your common behaviors are born from self defense mechanisms put in place by your brain after past events.
To me, it makes sense why she avoided actually confronting the idea that Snape was too far gone. We know that she was aware of the path Severus was taking, but it almost seems like she was still convinced that she could save him, and could possibly steer him back in the right direction. Itâs only when she becomes the target of his bigotry that she realizes that the Snape who called her a âmudbloodâ was not the same Severus who was the one who held her hand and introduced her to this new, exciting world.

In a general sense, yes, it is selfish, to only take a stand when something starts affecting you personally. But I also think itâs important to note that itâs unlikely that this was a conscious decision on Lilyâs part. In my eyes, it was easier to delude herself into thinking she still had a chance to save him before it was too late when she was able to separate him from his actions (considering, a lot of the time, she was only hearing about them after the fact, rather than seeing them firsthand). But the elusion is shattered once she sees that the Snape she grew up withâ her friend, Severusâ is, in fact, the same person whoâs out there calling other students slurs, dismissing the malicious use of Dark Magic on others as just âa laughâ. There we see a Lily who is actually revealed to have been somewhat aware of Snapeâs involvement with the darker side of magic, and genuinely feels pretty ashamed about her inaction.

That moment in SWM is probably somewhat of an epiphany to her. Itâs like a dam thatâs been broken, and now sheâs overwhelmed with the realization of exactly how much she overlooked in order to keep their friendship afloat. And for someone like Lily Evans, someone whom we know is opinionated and unafraid to call others out on their bullshit, that can be hard to swallow and feel pretty mortifying and shameful. And I think this was a huge turning point for her- at that point, she doesnât have the luxury of avoiding uncomfortable truths anymore and now that sheâs getting closer to graduating and being thrown out into the world on the brink of war, this was probably a really sobering discovery.
This is where we donât have as much info to go off of, and a lot of it is up to interpretation. But we actually have little crumbs to go off of following her graduation and leading up to her death.
One of my favorite little tidbits isnât in the books, and @seriousbrat's post reminded me about it. Here's the actual entry on Pottermore for anyone who's interested, but I'll summarize: after James and Lily began dating, Lily brings James to meet newly engaged Petunia and Vernon. Everything goes downhill, because Vernon is a smarmy asshole, and James is still pretty immature and canât help but mess with him (which⌠fair, I guess). Petunia and Vernon storm out after Petunia letting Lily know that she had no intentions of having her as a bridesmaid, which causes Lily to break down into tears. I mention this because I also think itâs a pretty important aspect of her character; like weâve seen in her past friendship with Snape, Lily seems more than willing to forgive others most of the time. Petunia is a bit of a complicated character herself, but she was objectively very cruel and unfair to Lily once it became obvious that she was a witch and Petunia was not.
Something that always stands out to me is just how desperate Lily is to earn Petuniaâs trust and approval again. Even up until her death, she was more than willing to mend the relationship, were Petunia ever to consider.Â
This is a detail about Lily that I feel is misunderstood quite a bit. Iâve seen a lot of instances of her character being reduced to a one-dimensional archetype with little to no complexity. And often, that archetype is âknow-it-all, prudish, self righteous bookworm who is also a goody two-shoes with a stick up her assâ. What annoys me is that the reason for this is most definitely the scene in which she blows up at James in SWM for bullying Snape, and hurls quite a few insults at him directly after an extremely devastating and overwhelming situation for her. This frustrates me because we know for a fact that sheâs the polar opposite of this archetype Iâve seen her reduced to.Â
In actuality, sheâs referred to as popular, charming, witty, bright and kind. From flashbacks we also are shown that sheâs opinionated, bold, and not afraid to challenge others. With other context, like her interpersonal relationships, we can also see that sheâs pretty emotionally driven and wears her heart on her sleeve.Â
(I know Remus didnât mention Lily much in the books, but I really love how he described her in the movies. He tells Harry that the first thing he noticed about him was not his striking resemblance to his father, but his eyes, the same eyes Lily had. He also calls her a âsingularly gifted witchâ and an âuncommonly kind womanâ.
âShe had a way of seeing the beauty in others, even and perhaps most especially, when that person could not see it in themselves.â
I know there are mixed feelings on whether or not the films count as canon source material, so take it with a grain of salt, but I personally cannot see a world in which Lily and Remus didnât become close friends.)
Here we have a direct description of what she was like and who she was, corroborated by recounting of memories of her, and yet for some reason, this feels like the thing that is most commonly lost in translation.
I donât think I can say why I think that is without mentioning the dreaded M word (misogyny- itâs misogyny), but I also donât want to get too off topic so Iâll be brief: female characters are typically not given the same grace as male characters. When we have an undeveloped male character, heâs awarded the assumption that despite his lack of depth, there still exists a complex and multifaceted characterâ itâs merely just potential that hasnât been tapped into. Whereas when we have underdeveloped female characters, they are taken at face value, meaning that not much exists beyond the little information we have of them. They are not presumed to have a life or a story that exists beyond the surface of what we know like male characters are. Thatâs why I think characters like Regulus, Evan, or Barty (just to name a few) are more popular than Lily, despite being less developed than she is.
(Before anyone gets defensive, no, I donât think itâs an individual problem that you alone need to be shamed for. I think itâs the result of a deeper issue regarding misogyny in media as a concept; these are things that weâve all unknowingly internalized and while itâs not our fault, we still have to do the work to deconstruct those learned prejudices.)
What I find really cool about her character is that despite how much sheâs been hurt, sheâs also still known as one of the most loving, kind, and considerate characters. There were so many times in her life where the love she received was conditional and ripped away from herâ and I think thatâs what makes her sacrifice even more poignant. She was able to protect her infant son from an extremely powerful dark wizard, wand-less, knowing that her husband was just murdered in cold blood, just from how much love she felt for Harry. Her love was a force of nature on its own, and I just think thatâs such an amazing thing about her.Â
I know Iâm biased, given that sheâs one of my favorite characters, but even upon delving into this, I still just find it so incredibly hard to understand how anyone can actively hate her (not indifference, but actual dislike). In my opinion (again, no one is unbiased, and she is a favorite character of mine, but trust me when I say that Iâm trying to be objective as possible when I say this), sheâs probably one of the most likable characters of the Marauders Era. I think perhaps a lot of people havenât given her a chance or really taken the time to learn about her character, but it could be a myriad of other reasons that Iâll never understand.Â
There's so much more I could say but this is long enough and I will stop myself
Lily Evans, u will always be famous to me
#lily evans#character analysis#harry potter#i am a little embarrassed that i got so invested in this. i hope at least one person enjoys this insane essay that no one asked for

i like your viewpoint on draco, i really do think his age matters a lot when it comes to the gravity of his actions. specifically in 6th year, people forget draco is literally only a month older than harry and theres was a scene specifically showing how they were the youngest in their year. meaning, before his 6th year he probably was only 15 when a lot of the shit went down and then freshly 16 when handling the task. like, that is YOUNG and i know his actions do have consequences but i really dont know how people can compare him to the lengths of other grown adult characters?
Thank you! I think Draco is easily one of the most relatable characters in the series and the reason probably why some people resent him is that they keep focusing on specific actions he did rather than looking at the whole picture, his whole ass arc from the first book to the last one.
(like wow 6th year and 7th year Draco's characterisations are so delicious and yet... less brought up)
...
I think it's not just about age, my friend. If it were, Iâd probably be more forgiving toward James. But thatâs not the case for me.
Thereâs a whole ensemble of reasons why sympathizing with Draco is easierâif you just try, or even want to try. At least for me.
First, His Background:
From the very beginning, weâre introduced to an arrogant child with bigoted views. Views that are, without a doubt, shaped by his parents. You could even argue that lil bro doesnât fully understand what heâs spoutingŘ that heâs just parroting what heâs been taught.
Then this indoctrinated child gets placed in Slytherin, a house that reinforces the same prejudices he was raised with. His âfriendsâ (Crabbe and Goyle) are the children of his fatherâs friends. His whole entourage is one echo chamber that the school system does nothing to break. This is a 101 textbook example of how a child becomes easily radicalized.
People overlook this, but growing up in an ideologically homogeneous environment is incredibly radicalizing. When everyone around you, especially the people who matter most, shares the same beliefs, it reinforces the idea that they must be right. I mean, why would they be wrong?
Which brings me to my next point.
Draco Was Never Ideologically Challenged.
Throughout the books, we never see anyone truly confront Dracoâs views. Sure, he gets insulted, hexed, or beaten up every time he opens his mouth, but we don't ever see anyone (old or young) who actually sits him down and tells him why heâs wrong. No debates, no real pushbackâjust dismissal or violence.
And that doesnât change people. If anything, it deepens their resentment. It makes them double down.
(This is not me saying the trio or whoever should have been uwu with Draco.. No. This is me trying to see how Draco came to be the person he is)
(ofc Doylistly speaking I'm asking too much from this series, but this whole rant is from a Watsonian perspective. Bear that in mind please).
I think this is why fifth year Draco is also interesting because, by the end of OoTP, youâd expect Draco to go full-blown Death Eater, to be about that life. The pieces are all in place. Heâs angry, humiliated, and has every reason to lean into that path. The dominoes are stacked neatly to be pushed.
Then Half Blood Prince happens.
The entire book revolves around Dracoâs struggle with the idea of killing. He hesitates. He breaks down. He panics. And thatâs what makes him so compelling.
Thereâs a quote from a video I love that sums it up perfectly: "Draco is the least equipped character, yet heâs put through the most difficult ethical situations"
Second, Draco as a Person :
His reluctance to kill in HBP isnât just about him being young, itâs about who he is. Narcissa says, âHeâs just a boy,â but itâs more than that. Draco, for all his big talk, is repulsed by real violence. Heâs a shit-talker, not a fighter. (at least not in the traditional way?)
Compare him to James. When the Marauders cornered Snape in Snape's worst memory, Snapeâs first instinct was to attackâbecause he knew an attack was coming. But when Draco, Greg, and Goyle cornered Ron in Hogsmeade? Ron just stood there, enduring the insults. The difference in their reactions says a lot about the difference between their bullies.
Draco, compared to James, is non-threatening.
So non-threatening that when Harry saw Snapeâs worst memory, he didnât compare James to Dracoâhe compared Draco to a possible victim of the twins paralleling the marauders, (although in a negative way)
So non-threatening that Ron and Hermione, who supposedly suffered under Dracoâs bullying, laughed at the idea of him being a Death Eater.
So non-threatening that Moaning Myrtle, the ghost who literally cries all the time, pitied him.
Now, donât get me wrong, Draco can be cruel. But his cruelty is immature, performative, childish. The moment heâs faced with a situation that requires actual, meaningful true to the word cruelty, he hesitates. He fumbles.
Heâs naĂŻve, and not just because heâs young but also because he was sheltered. He was loved, protected, raised in comfort.
While most characters were fighting in OoTP, Draco was sulking over missing out on a fake secret weapon/jk
Maybe thatâs why heâs non-violent? Maybe itâs because, unlike so many others, he was cared for as a child??
And in the end, thatâs what stops the dominoes from falling as expected.
His so-called cowardice? In his case, you could even call it a virtue.
I could go on longer and longer about 7th year Draco but what sums it for me is again a quote from the same video: "Draco is the only character who we're shown self-reflected."
The summary of his arc is basically: immature kid is racist, when confronted by what could be heavily serious consequences of his racism he gets so shooketh he stops being racist. and imo this is so realistic and that why it's easy to sympthize with and relate to.
I mean who from us didn't have problematic views and grows out of it? Are the people harping over 12-year-old Draco being âevilâ really trying to say theyâve never been wrong about anything in their lives? or they've neved did anything wrong to anyone and then changed? Especially as children who are known to react more on emotion rather than logic.
Finally, I want to just conclude that for me Draco is sympthetic because he embodied all these points at the same time.
(Age + personality + background)
Take one out and yeah no, I'm not interested anymore.
There are other points but I feel I'm making this longer than necessary.
#I also relate to these points in a very vague sense#mind you I was bullied#Yes No one owes Draco forgiveness#but Draco also doesn't owe them his right to change and move on#which he *did*#change that is. with or without Harry#I also wanted to talk about his very good qualities#he's loyal#and he loves strongly#but he also is shown to not fall under pressure#âfollow your heartâ type shit

Show You How Much I Care
Lorenzo Berkshire x fem reader
Summary: Little things Lorenzo does to show y/n how much he cares
w/c: 1069
Lorenzo Berkshire, the charming and enigmatic member of the Slytherin crew, had always had a knack for reading people. Yet, when it came to Y/N, a girl who seemed to shine with an inner light, he found himself captivated. Unlike many others at Hogwarts, Y/N was genuine and kind, navigating the social landscape with refreshing authenticity. Lorenzo admired her from afar and, over time, felt a growing desire to show her how much he cared.
The Care Package
One day, after overhearing Y/N mention her struggles with schoolwork, Lorenzo decided to help. He discreetly gathered a selection of books and notes that could aid her studies. Alongside these, he added a few of her favorite snacksâa small detail he had picked up from observing her during meals.
That evening, Y/N returned to her dormitory to find a basket waiting for her. Inside was a note written in Lorenzo's neat handwriting:
"For the times when things get tough. Take care, Y/N. - Enzo"
Y/N felt a warm flush spread across her cheeks as she read the note. She had always seen Lorenzo as the laid-back, cool member of his group, but this thoughtful gesture revealed a depth she hadn't expected. It was a small act, but it showed that he had been paying attention and cared about her well-being.
The Potions Class Incident
During a challenging Potions class, Professor Snape assigned the students a complex potion requiring precise timing and careful handling. Y/N, who generally enjoyed Potions, found herself unusually nervous, fumbling with the ingredients. She glanced at her notes, trying to recall the exact sequence, but her anxiety clouded her memory.
Lorenzo, at the next table, noticed her distress. He watched as she hesitated, holding a vial of powdered unicorn horn uncertainly. Understanding the importance of timing, Lorenzo quietly tapped his quill on the edge of her table, a subtle signal they had developed for moments like this.
Y/N looked over, catching his eye. Lorenzo gave a slight nod, glancing at the clock. She understood and added the powder just as the potion turned the right shade of blue. Lorenzo continued to help subtly, passing her a vial of powdered moonstone when she realized she was running low and mouthing a reminder about the temperature adjustment.
As the class ended, Professor Snape evaluated their potions. He paused at Y/N's cauldron, inspecting the brew with his usual critical eye. "Adequate," he muttered, a rare compliment from him.
Relieved, Y/N turned to Lorenzo as they packed up. "Thank you," she whispered, her eyes filled with gratitude. "I was so nervous."
Lorenzo smiled, a warm, reassuring look in his eyes. "You had it. Just needed a bit of confidence."
Y/N couldn't help but smile back. His quiet support had been comforting, making her feel seen and valued.
The Herbology Lesson
Later, during a particularly tricky Herbology lesson, Y/N struggled with a difficult plant. Lorenzo, who had a surprising knack for Herbology, noticed her frustration and stayed behind after class.
"Need a hand?" he asked, offering a friendly smile.
Surprised, Y/N nodded. Lorenzo patiently guided her through the process, showing her the correct technique. Under his calm guidance, the plant responded, and Y/N felt a wave of relief and accomplishment.
"Thanks, Lorenzo," she said, grateful for his help.
He shrugged modestly. "Anytime. Can't let you struggle alone."
As the days passed, Y/N couldn't help but notice all the little things Lorenzo did for her. He'd save her a seat in the library, offer to carry her books when they were headed in the same direction, and even conjured a small bouquet of flowers during a particularly rough day. These small acts of kindness were so thoughtful and consistent that she found herself wondering why he was doing them. Was it just his nature, or was there something more?
The Astronomy Night
Knowing Y/N's love for the stars, Lorenzo planned a special surprise. One clear night, he invited her for a walk. They ended up at the Astronomy Tower, where he had set up a blanket and a small telescope.
As they lay under the stars, Lorenzo pointed out constellations and shared stories. His effort to create this moment touched Y/N deeply, revealing a thoughtful and caring side she had come to cherish.
"Lorenzo, this is wonderful," Y/N said, moved by his gesture. "Thank you."
He smiled, his eyes reflecting the starlight. "I wanted to do something special for you. You deserve it."
Y/N felt warmth spread through her. She hesitated, then asked the question that had been on her mind. "Why do you do all these things for me, Lorenzo?" she asked softly, turning to look at him directly. "You've been so kind and attentive... it's more than anyone's ever done for me."
Lorenzo paused, his expression thoughtful. He met her gaze, his eyes sincere. "Because you matter to me, Y/N," he began, his voice gentle but firm. "I've seen how kind and genuine you are, and I admire that. I wanted to show you that someone appreciates you for who you are, not just for what you do or what house you're in. And... because I care about you. A lot."
He paused, gathering his thoughts. "I know I'm not the best with words or grand gestures, but I believe in showing my feelings through actions. That's why I wanted to show you how much I care, in my own way. Whether it's helping you in Potions, making sure you have what you need, or just spending time together like this. It's all because I want you to know you're special to me."
Y/N's heart fluttered at his words. There was a sincerity in his voice that made her believe every word. She felt a mix of emotionsâsurprise, joy, and a deep warmth she couldn't quite describe.
She reached out, taking his hand. "I had no idea," she admitted, her voice soft. "But... I'm glad. I appreciate everything you've done. It means more than you know."
They sat there, hand in hand, under the vast night sky. Lorenzo's quiet, thoughtful actions had finally come to light, revealing the depth of his feelings. It wasn't about grand declarations or dramatic actions; it was about the little things that showed he genuinely cared. And in that moment, under the stars, Y/N realized just how much Lorenzo meant to her, too.

Hello!
Fistly, I love your content <3
Secondly, do you think there were other reasons besides the difference in wealth, class and power as to why James and Sirius treated Severus the way they did?
They mock and humiliate him and reduce him to a toy, a doll to have fun with. But if that's all there is, they should torment him and leave, right? However, that does not happen. And this is the part I find odd. The way they watch him during the exam in the flashback (what business do they have watching someone write their paper?), the way Sirius' eyes follow him like a preditor to a rabbit when he spots Snape under the tree. James promises Lily to stop pranking people, but goes behind her back to get to Severus anyway. He dies for the tiniest chance that this woman may leave, but he betrays her trust that easily just to torment Snape more? It seems a bit obsessive to me, not just the typycal bullying, worse, something a bit off. Obsessive from James' side and then Sirius would follow his lead in any case. Ofc, I could be wrong about all of this.
What do you think?
<3
Oh, this is such a juicy question, and thanks for the kind words! â¤ď¸
Buckle up, because we're diving deep into the murky waters of school bullying dynamics and why James and Siriusâs treatment of Severus isnât your average schoolyard torment. (I love to made these type of meta because analyze violence is my cardio lol) This is gonna be looooooong:
At its core, bullying thrives on power imbalances. James and Sirius had every advantage: wealth, status, looks, charisma, magical talentâyou name it. Severus, on the other hand, was everything they werenât: poor, socially awkward, a loner, and unkempt. People like James and Sirius often prey on someone like Severus because he represents a threat to their sense of superiority. Heâs smart, talented, and doesnât bow to them, which means they canât control or dominate him the way they can others. For people like James, thatâs an itch they have to scratch.
But with James and Sirius, this goes beyond garden-variety bullying. It has this weird intensity to it thatâs worth unpacking and as you said before, thereâs something almost compulsive about the way James and Sirius target Severus. This isnât just "letâs embarrass the nerd for laughs and move on." Itâs fixated. Watching him during an exam? Catching sight of him under a tree and zoning in like a predator? Going out of his way to break his promise to Lily just to torment him again? Thatâs next-level, and hereâs why that might be:
Severus was different: Beyond class, wealth, and upbringing, Severus was a challenge. He didnât back down, didnât beg, and he didnât play the role of the "grateful victim" who might humor them to escape more torment. Instead, he fought back (verbally or with magic), which probably pissed James off even more. Bullies hate it when their victim refuses to crumble.
Insecurity masked as dominance: James, despite his wealth and privilege, could still be deeply insecure. Think about it: someone like Severus, who came from nothing, could rival him in magical skill and intelligence. Thatâs a big bruise to Jamesâs ego. Bullying might have been his way of proving to himselfâand everyone watchingâthat he was "better."
Additionally, letâs not forget that canonically, Jamesâs animosity toward Severus began because of his relationship with Lily. Itâs likely that, until he managed to date her and ensure any bond she had with Severus was completely severed, James experienced jealousy, anger, and even the insecurity of thinking they might have something more.
For someone like Jamesâaccustomed to being handed everything by his doting parents, who gets what he wants with the snap of a finger, and whoâs probably never been told ânoââinsecurity wasnât something heâd know how to handle. The idea that someone like Severus, from a rival house, who held beliefs James had been taught were âwrong,â who was poor, scruffy, unattractive, could possibly achieve what James wanted, or spend endless time with the girl he liked, must have been inconceivable. Unthinkable.
Once again, class and status come into play: the wealthy kid whoâs had everything can present himself as a fighter for social justice, but deep down, in certain situations, that intrinsic sense of superiority and entitlement always surfaces. After winning Lily over, James probably thought he had every right to treat Severus however he wanted. By that point, heâd dehumanized him to such an extent that he no longer saw him as a person.
On top of that, if you consider that James likely justified his bullying by convincing himself it was legitimate because Severus was hanging around with dark wizards, it all makes sense. Itâs the classic psychological mechanism of rationalizing harmful behavior: âIâm not doing anything wrong; he deserves it.â Itâs actually a pretty logical progression when you think about it.
Siriusâs role: Sirius is a complicated mess of a character. Growing up in a family where dominance, control, and punishment were the norm, Sirius might have channeled that energy into his dynamic with Severus. If James was leading the charge, Sirius probably saw joining in as a way to solidify their bond while also exercising some of his own unresolved issues. But the predatory way you describe Sirius observing Severus? Thatâs chilling, and it checks out.
Iâve mentioned this in another post, but Sirius is a Black, and his rebellious persona and attempts to distance himself from his family rested on two fundamental pillars: being a Gryffindor and defending Muggle-borns. However, at the end of the day, Sirius was still a boy raised in an aristocratic family that believed they were superior to others for absurd reasons. This superiority complex led them to treat an entire group of people as âthe other,â dehumanizing them to justify their marginalization and even their extermination.
These are the values Sirius grew up with, and like many rich kids who rebel without bothering to deconstruct the behavioral patterns theyâve inherited, he thought that simply rejecting blood purity and getting Sorted into another house was enough to absolve him.
But Snapeâs presence challenges that belief. Siriusâs relationship with Severus reveals that, deep down, Sirius isnât so different from his mother or his cousin Bellatrix. Sirius sees Snape as âthe other.â He dehumanizes Severus in the same way his family dehumanizes Muggle-bornsâbut for being a Slytherin and for desiring the things Sirius himself has chosen to reject. This cognitive dissonance makes Sirius feel justified in tormenting Severus, much like his family feels justified in their bigotry.
In the end, Sirius is just another hypocrite with a different spinâlike so many others.
Iâve also pointed out several times that Sirius has a sadistic streak. Maybe not to the same degree as Bellatrix, because sheâs clearly far more unhinged, but Sirius does have that violent, bloodthirsty impulse typical of the Blacks. Since he canât channel it the way his family does, he chose an easy targetâsomeone disliked by many, someone who didnât fit in, who was isolated, and, most tragically, someone who no one cared about, not even his own parents. Sirius used Severus as a means to vent his anger and sadistic tendencies, fully aware that no one would step in to defend him.
Furthermore, as a wealthy boy from an aristocratic family with progressive ideas, itâs no surprise that Sirius relied on James as his moral compass when he struggled to discern right from wrong. If James believed it was entirely justified to bully and torment Severus, why would Sirius think otherwise?
James embodied everything Sirius wished he could be: a boy with the same privilege as him, but from a family without extremist beliefs. Jamesâs parents treated Sirius like a son. They believed in âgoodâ things. They were the âgoodâ ones. If James was convinced that bullying Severus was the right thing to do, then Sirius had no reason to question it.
It became a way for Sirius to justify and validate his own awful behaviorâa pattern thatâs sadly all too common among bullies.
When we look at how James and Sirius treated Severus, itâs clear they didnât just see him as someone to mock and forget; they actively sought to dehumanize him. This process of dehumanization is deeply rooted in power dynamics. Severus wasnât just the ânerdâ they bulliedâhe was someone who challenged their place in the social order. He dared to stand up to James over Lily and, as a highly capable student, constantly reminded them that they werenât untouchable. Even if they had reached the top of the social and academic hierarchy, Severus was proof that someone outside their circle could match or even surpass them. In their eyes, Severus became the "other," someone who had to be eliminated to keep their world intact.
Dehumanization in bullying has devastating effects on the victim. Itâs not just about causing temporary physical or emotional harmâitâs about erasing the personâs identity, reducing them to nothing more than an object for entertainment or a pawn in a game of power.
In Severusâs case, James and Sirius didnât just want to make him miserableâthey wanted to strip away his dignity, his individuality, and his sense of self-worth. They needed to prove, not only to Severus but also to themselves and their peers, that he didnât belong. This is why their actions go beyond mere pranks or teasingâthey were asserting their dominance and ensuring that Severus could never challenge the status quo they benefited from.
The relationship between James, Sirius, and Severus is a reflection of how power dynamics, insecurity, and the struggle for control can lead to psychological abuse far more complex than simple schoolyard rivalry. Throughout the story, James and Sirius donât just try to humiliate Severusâthey do it to prove something about themselves, about their place in the world, and about the relationships they maintain with those around them. This isnât just bullying; itâs a demonstration of how children raised in a dysfunctional value system, with a limited understanding of others, can wield destructive power over the more vulnerable.
Thatâs why, when we look at Severus and understand what he endured, itâs not just a matter of âhe joined the Death Eaters because he was bad.â Thereâs a context of pain, abuse, and a desperate search to belong to something or someone. What James and Sirius did wasnât just cruelâit was one of the cornerstones that pushed Severus down the path he later followed.

I just saw a fanart of Sirius and Snape. What was that? Why was that hot? How the fuck was that hot??? TELL ME ABOUT THEM! I'M NOT GETTING THEM OUT OF MY BRAIN. What is the deal here??!?!?!?
Is the fanart from intotheswollenriver...bc yeah, god they are hot.
It's hot because they absolutely hate each other but they would also wholeheartedly trust each other when it comes to achieving their number one goal, which is protecting Harry. Like their vibes are enemies, so a divorced couple with phenomenal co parenting skills?? Best friend of Lily, best friend of James??
Besides that, I'm pretty sure they have a lot of parellels. Which is why I reallyy love shipping them.
Sirius hated his home life but he was forced to live back there again though it was for a short while, Severus also lived back in his childhood home, though he spent most of his time Hogwarts for his career.
Sirius and Severus had a huge part in the deaths of the Potters, and therefore felt responsible/guilty. "I as good as killed them." (Can't remember the quote) and Severus's...well you know.
Other DEs suspecting Severus to be a traitor and other Order allies actually convicting Sirius as the traitor?? Also the literal ex death eater believes Sirius was a DE and the wrongfully convicted one doesn't even know Severus had a dark mark?? Like??
There's more but I can't remember lol.
Snupin is sad angst but snirius is like...angry angst. Snupin is recovering from their teenage bs and the war but snirius is making it worse. Like... reverting? Relapsing??
Because Sirius says shit like he wasn't proud of his teenage treatment towards Severus, and drops quotes like oh the world isn't black and white harry or whatever and then turns around and says Severus deserved the Prank happening (although I think this happened first) and speaks to Severus like he's the worst scum on earth, even before he finds out Severus was a DE. Like despite how impulsive he is, Sirius does understand, he has logic and everything but literally all of that goes out the window the moment he talks to Severus?? Like, heed your own words bro, why can't you??
Severus gets to be an asshole to Sirius for obv reasons, PTSD and all. I forgive him.
Anyways, they literally get under each other's skin like no other. The only marauders era characters to be written this way. Like it's been more than a decade since their childhood "feud" (/sarc) and they still revert back to their teenage self whenever they fight. It's so fascinating because we know Severus is the rationally composed one. Even Sirius has his moments.
And yet, even though every one of their canon interactions were bitter and heated, Severus handles the unconscious body of Sirius carefully, he doesn't knock his head around on purpose (unlike Sirius with Severus's body) and Severus genuinely did not want Sirius to die. Before they even properly had a conversation, Severus seems to have uh moved on? He was ready to forget the whole "getting back" at Sirius thing, he's over it but all that past resentment, anger and bitterness comes back immediately the moment he talks to Sirius. Which, I don't blame him for. Human response honestly.
At his core, he understands that no matter how horrible Sirius was to him, this is Lily's friend, this is someone Harry cares about. So kind of like Harry to Draco, this guy is a piece of shit but he doesn't deserve death
And this is somewhat similar to Sirius's oh Snape? Hated that Slytherin guy, sucking up to all those horrible slytherins, I wouldn't mind if he died back then lol... what do you mean he was a death eater? Are you sure?
Hence, they are enemies and lovers. I don't think they'll ever move past the enemy phase. So they are both. Their conversations are 100% full of witty quick comebacks and sarcasm. They've lived through experiences literally no one else shares. Like who else would know what it's like to unintentionally play a key part in orchestrating the Potter's death??
Even besides that, how they're written too. Severus is poor, working class, bullied, ugly, greasy hair, goes from the lowest of the barrel and works his way up, rational, and introverted, inherits almost nothing valuable from his pureblood mother. Sirius is rich, highest of the highest elite, peaked in highschool, handsome, gorgeous hair, falls from disgraceâa young man with a huge inheritance to an escaped convict, irrational and extroverted, inherits like?? Everything?? From his family???
Also, there's Severus who hates his name from his father because abusive guy and Sirius who hated what his family represented. Hmm, they're not exactly the same but the vibes....
Like it's so...ugh compelling?? It SPEAKS to me.

How voldmort treats Snape also makes me think of how voldmort when he found out about the two children the prophecy was about, hpw he chose the half blood child like him. I don't know what it means but it gives me something to think about. đ¤
Yep. Except even more-so. Harry's mother is muggleborn, not actually a muggle, and if his parents had lived Harry would have grown up very integrated into the magical community and with a lot of wealth and basically lived a live comparable to that of any well-off pureblood child, even if his blood status would be looked down on by some traditionalists.
Snape on the other hand is the child of a muggle father and a witch mother who appears to be the victim of abuse just as Merope was (tho Merope's abuse was at the hands of her father and brother, not Tom Sr.). His parents have a deeply troubled relationship. He didn't have an involved parental figure, grew up in poverty, and experienced social ostracization. He understands the muggle world but is an outsider there, and also isn't part of the pureblood elite. He's extremely talented at and interested in magic. They are VERY similar.
And Voldemort definitely favors Snape in a way he doesn't favor any of his other Death Eaters. He seems to enjoy interacting with him to some extent (and Snape is smart enough to follow what Riddle is saying and not fall for his sometimes cruel verbal traps the way Bellatrix does) and he never tries to degrade or humiliate him as he does with his other followers - even Bellatrix. He seems to genuinely admire Snape and never shows signs of contempt towards him. Snape also knows how to handle him - he understands that Tom doesn't tend to appreciate or respect too much groveling - and Snape is able to manipulate him into believing he can be trusted.
Tom also gives Snape a chance to come back late and explain himself, rather than killing him on sight. He actually apologizes for killing him and expresses regret - the only time he ever does so - and seems unwilling/unable to use the killing curse on him. He also goes to great lengths to seek an alternative to killing Snape - and seems eager for Snape to know this fact, and to understand. Additionally, the whole book series happens because Snape asks Voldemort to spare Lily's life...and he listens. And goes to great lengths to try to honor the request - even arguing with her. Yes, he ultimately kills her, but the fact that he truly would have let her go if she took him up on his offer is extraordinary. We don't see him interacting with or treating any of his other Death Eaters in this way. Snape is different.
#asks#Harry Potter#Snape#Tom Riddle#Severus Snape#Voldemort#This isn't a snapemort meta#but i will tag it for that in case anyone wants to read it that way.#snapemort

for your consideration part 2;
Sirius sleeping with random people to get james' reaction before they were together. see how long it took for James to snap. james' final straw WAS Remus. that was the breaking point and when he sent Snape out, he went up to their dorms.
Peter was busy doing whatever the hell,
Remus was in the shack, turning
snape was on his way to the willow/shack
James was pinning Sirius to remus' bed to prove a point. the point being "you're my best friend and I love you. you're my life line and I need you and if you pull this shit again someone is dying"
-đŞ
(i reallyyyyy like borderline yandere James okay?)
I love you brain. I want to keep it in my cabinet and poke it sometimes. (affectionate)
Sirius is always in his slut era(sub genre: depression) and we love that but not a single one of his friends do, much less the one two in love with him.
James and Sirius tell each other EVERYTHING naturally so Sirius has an excuse to tell James allllllllllllll about it and he knows it pisses James off but itâs like a game to him. Who will break first? Sirius is a pro at mind games so heâll always win and he knows that. James has no idea how to handle the situation because his parents were all about open communication so when Sirius rolls up with this shit James canât wrap his head around it.
Poor Remus is dealing with the other side of the same situation. James gets all the filthy details and Remus? He has nothing but his imagination running wild. Now while James CANNOT possibly live without Sirius or risk their relationship, Remus at some point would rather try his luck than continue to suffer. So he does and go him! But James overhears and Sirius? Yeah, he knows that so he flirts back. Hard. Drops hints to James he might like Remus back and that he might be the âoneâ. How he loves a besties to lovers story. So James sends Snape to the willow because thatâs the only rational thing to do obviously?? I love it. And on Remusâ bed while itâs going down is crazy but definitely fits the Prongsfoot dramaticđ
(Yandere is a perfect description tbh, I think it goes both ways but despite popular opinion Sirius is better at holding it in)

do u think harry will name his son as harry? if say they had 4 kids 3 boys and a girl
More info about what I think Harry and Ginny would *actually* name their epilogue kids (and why) in this post.
If Harry and Ginny had a third son, and wanted to continue their theme of 'names to honor the dead'... there are a couple of options. Obviously Remus - although Harry is honestly a bit conflicted about Remus Lupin, so I don't know if he'd immediately go there for a name. He also wasn't really a father finger like Dumbledore + Sirius, or as heavily involved in Harry's life as Snape. It's also possible that Harry doesn't feel l like he has a claim to the name Remus, like it "belongs" to Remus' son Teddy.
Alastor is a good option - he's also a beloved mentor, and as far as we know he didn't have any kids. So same general category as Albus. However, it does sound a lot like 'Albus,' and would have a lot of similar nicknames. Harry also miiight still associate it with Barty Jr.
Which is why I actually think... Harry goes with Cedric if he has a third son. Cedric's death hit him incredibly hard, and enough time has passed that he might find that choice healing. It does *rhyme* with Fredrick though... which makes it a better choice in a universe where his eldest son is Sirius.
THREE SONS:
Fredrick Harry Potter or Sirius Harry Potter
Albus James Potter
Cedric Arthur Potter or Alastor Arthur Potter
If Harry has girls I think he goes with Ariana instead of Albus, when following up on that instinct to honor/process Albus Dumbledore. The third name is harder. Nymphadora / Dora is an option, especially because Ginny knew Tonks (better than Harry did.) It runs into that Remus problem though, of Harry not feeling like it's "his" name. If anything, I think this depends a lot on how close Harry is with Andromeda post-war, because she would definitely feel *some* sort of way about this choice.
(also Tonks didn't actually *like* the name Nymphadora, which might possibly taint it for Ginny and Harry.)
The two of them are also very close with Neville, so I really think it's possible they might ask his permission to use Alice. (I don't think Neville would be able psychologically handle a daughter named Alice Longbottom, and I don't blame him. Alice Potter might okay though.) Also 'Euphemia' is the name of Harry's paternal grandmother, so it's the next one up in terms of middle names, and 'Alice Euphemia' is pretty.
THREE DAUGHTERS:
Lily Ginevra Potter
Ariana Molly Potter
Alice Euphemia Potter or Dora Euphemia Potter

Remus Lupin was known as the professor of Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher, with some admires from 7th year females, due to his gentlemanly habits and soft looks that seems to stay permanently in his eyes. But of course, he was taken, by you. A sibling of James Potter, best friend of Sirius Black, and teachers aid that travels between classes. You and Remus have been married for a few years now, having been together since their 5th year all that time ago.
At the moment, Remus is teaching a class with you sat all nice on his desk, with your nose in a book. You had some admirers as well, some male and female students that had a small school crush on you. Only because of how parental you could be and how much you related to them in some ways. As the older man teaches, his eyes keep flickering over to you, your legs crossed and thighs looking so nice in your pants. Your teaching Cape short and a nice violet color, a color that looked amazing on you.
Two nights prior was the full moon, so the love-sick werewolf was still on the tired side, luckily the full moons aren't to bad with you nearby. His wolf side loves you and luckily, you are an animagus, a cat to be frank. The fur matches your hair, with the same eyes your human form holds. You also stayed in his classroom before and after the full moon for a week straight, of course the other teachers know, and know of your relationship so no one minds. Except for Snape, but... He's Snape.. so... Anything that has to do with Remus he hates. Moving on!
As the class ends, Remus was done for the day. It was about 2 hours before dinner so this class was his final one for the day. He waits patiently with his usual soft smile, hiding his pain, and watches as his final batch of students leave. You raise your head from your book, your quill between your pointer finger and thumb from underlining important sentences in your book as the children file out of the room quickly. You give them all a smile at they leave and get off of Remus' desk, ready to help him relax.
The tired man turns to you and his smile falters slightly showing how hard he's fighting to stay standing with his perfect posture.
"Come here my love" Remus does as told and goes to you, his hands finding solitude on your hips.
"Let's go to your room, so you can relax a bit before dinner."
"I have to grade papers Dove"
"You can do that tomorrow, it is Friday after all" you speak softly to your love as he nods. You lead him up the creeky stairs up to your shared room. You both move through his office and into a door to the side, your bedroom. A moving photo of Sirius and James sat beside the bed. The room held earthy tones that you both loved, it was slightly messy with the bed undone and some book piles laid through the room. You help Remus get more comfortable, helping him take his shoes off and his belt off. His eyes watch your hands, knowing of the innocent handling you're currently doing to him.
You do the same, getting more comfortable before laying on the bed, him following you. Remus lays his head in his chest but can't seem to get comfortable for a long period of time. He slowly moves down, resting his head on your stomach, with your breathing his head moves up and down. So definitely not.
His head reaches your thighs and he goes between your legs laying on his back with your thighs on either side of the head. He lets out a small sigh, a sigh that sounded similar to a dog after a long day of naps.
"Comfy?"
"Very comfy my dove" you reach down and begin to gently play with his hair.

Asking You to Stay
Chapter 3 of âtreacherousâ
Pairing: Remus Lupin x fem!Reader
Word Count: 3.4k
A month or so passed, and you found yourself once again at Grimmauld Place, giving into Siriusâs requests for you to hang out with him. You couldnât blame him for getting lonely, though, and you were more than happy to oblige him.
You were chatting about how annoyed he was that you insisted on keeping your darling cat, as he didnât necessarily like Dumpling. But you argued back that Dumpling was a perfect angel whenever he wasnât around. Probably could smell the dog on him or something, you were convinced.
A knock at the front door signaled that the next order meeting was officially beginning. You stand up as Sirius does.
âAm I sticking around while you try to convince them to accept me?â
âSorry, darling, but I think itâs best that you let me handle this part, yeah?â
You nodded. âOkay. Just donât let them talk too much crap about me. Especially Snape.â
He snorted a laugh. âNever. You know what?â
âHm?â
âRemus is still recovering from last night. Itâs why heâs not here now. He could probably stand to see a friendly face,â he suggested, though it felt almost more like an instruction.
Regardless, you smiled at him, giving a nod.
âSounds fine to me. Iâm sure heâs not taking care of himself like he should.â
Sirius snorted. âYouâre getting the hang of things, arenât you? Do you know his address?â
âNo.â
Sirius nodded, telling you where to apparate to, and which door to knock on. After a brief goodbye, you headed off. As you stood in front of his door, you started adjusting your clothes before convincing yourself it was a little silly to do so. You were merely showing up for a casual visit. He wouldnât care if your shirt was a little wrinkled or out of place. You let out a breath, raising your hand to knock on the wooden door. He opened it a moment later, his face melting into a softer expression.
âHey,â you said, standing on his doorstep. âSirius told me you could probably use a little company while the order is meeting. Hope Iâm not intruding.â
He smiled gently. âYou could never.â
He welcomed you in, trying to usher you to the kitchen without you noticing his slight limp. He should have known better than to underestimate your observation skills.
âWhoa,â you said, stopping in front of him at the threshold of the kitchen. âWhatâs going on with you?â
âNothing,â he said, way too quickly for that matter.
You raised a brow in his direction, not believing him for a second. He deflated.
âPromise, Iâll be fine. Just donât worry about it.â
You narrowed your eyes, now.
âRemus, telling me not to worry about you is like telling me not to breathe,â you said with an eye-roll. âI know the moon cycles. What happened?â
He let out a breath. âLetâs sit.â
You followed him to the small kitchen table, sitting next to him as he gently lowered himself into his chair.
âI scratched up my leg pretty badly. But Iâve fixed it up well enough. Iâll be fine.â
âCan I see?â
He swallowed, shifting in his seat. âCan you just take my word for it?â
âNot when youâre trying to hide it from me. All that tells me is that itâs worse than youâre letting on,â you stood from your seat. âIâm going to get some things to fix you up properly. Iâd appreciate if you had your leg out for me and elevated someplace when I return.â
You were back to your apartment before he could argue to gather your supplies. Remus let out a slow breath, then stood. He looked down at himself, realizing heâd need shorts if he didnât intend on traumatizing you by sitting around in his underwear. He limped into his bedroom, pulling off his pants and tugging on some shorts that he usually would only wear to bed. Theyâd had to do for the purposes of you inspecting his leg. He glanced down at the half-assed wrappings around the injury, knowing youâd scold him for it. Too late now.
He hobbled back into his living room, sitting on the couch with his leg extended onto the coffee table. It wasnât long before you flashed back into his home with a pop.
âRemus?â your voice called from the kitchen.
âIn here,â he replied.
He came into view as you rounded the corner, and you smirked at the tattered shorts he wore to bare his leg. The smirk faded just as quickly when you saw how his wrappings laid on his leg.
âYou called this well enough?â you said, sitting next to him on the couch.
He huffed. âI knew youâd say that.â
âGood. Youâre learning you canât get away with things,â you said, snorting out a laugh. âDo you mind if I unwrap this?â
You set down all of your things on the coffee table, looking back at his face. He nodded, looking a little nervous. You started unwrapping his leg, grimacing at the severity of it. The scratch started just above his knee and extended halfway down his calf. You wondered how he could possibly walk around like this was nothing. You immediately started cleaning around the wounds, muttering small apologies any time you heard a sound from him.
âIâm going to apply an extract that is⌠I donât want to say experimental,â you began.
âDo you plan to make this worse for me?â he asked, humor lacing his voice.
âNever. But, it wonât feel great as it works itâs magic. Iâve only used it on small cuts for myself, so this is the first time Iâll be trying it on something more severe,â you explained, glancing at him. âIs that okay with you?â
He nodded. âI trust you.â
âOkay, good,â you said with a breath. âJust⌠Hang on, okay? Itâll hurt like hell for a moment, but it should help a great deal.â
He nodded, bracing himself with his hands holding to the couch cushions. You pulled out a small cloth, saturating it in the extracted liquid you kept in a small decanter. You once again gave a short apology, though this time in advance, and pressed the wetted cloth to the wounds on his leg. He groaned in protest of the feeling, and you saw his hands holding to the cushions hard as the extract started working. You let the cloth lay over the wound with some pressure from your hand for about a minute before finally pulling it away.
You glanced up at Remus, whose eyes were still squeezed shut, then back at his leg. Well, your extract had certainly worked, at least. You felt satisfied as you set the cloth down on the table.
âRemus,â you called. âDoes it still hurt?â
âNot right now. Are you finished?â
âJust about. Would you like to see the results before I wrap it again?â
He opened his eyes, one at a time, looking down at the gash in his leg. His eyes widened in surprise upon seeing that there was no longer a gash.
âHow did youââ
âTold you, this extract does miracles.â
âIncredible,â he mumbled, inspecting his leg more closely. âItâs nearly all closed up.â
âWhich is great news for me. I was hoping Iâd be able to test this sometime before it was needed in the field or in an emergency.â
He smiled at you, âWell, Iâm glad my affliction could help your experiment.â
You rolled your eyes playfully, smacking his shoulder.
âSomething really cool about this stuff,â you added, holding up the solution, âis that thereâs no scarring. Not that your scars arenât cool as hell, but I figure you might like that you wonât have any more if you donât want them.â
His eyes widened. âReally?â
âReally.â
He smiled softly, merely nodding as he looked back at his leg. You re-wrapped his leg, this time making sure it was done effectively, being sure to tell him that.
âThank you,â he said, leaning back into the couch.
âOf course. Besides the leg, how are you feeling? You look exhausted.â
He nodded. âI am. It certainly takes its toll mentally, the transformation.â
âCan I make you some tea? Or⌠Well, is there anything that would help you get some rest?â
He shook his head. âNo, but thatâs alright. I should be feeling better tomorrow.â
You hummed, looking around the room. He had a full bookshelf, and plenty of photos around the room. It was when you noticed his record player that your interest was piqued.
âHow about some music?â you asked.
He smiled, his eyes closing as his head lolled back.
âI wouldnât be opposed.â
You stood quickly, pulling out an instrumental album that looked familiar. You put the record in itâs place, dropping the needle. Once it started playing, you adjusted the volume a bit, then wandered to his bookshelf. He watched as you looked at each spine with only one eye open, curious to see what youâd choose, if anything. You scoured the shelf, seeing several titles that looked enticing, but ultimately deciding on a poetry book that looked fairly well-loved. You pulled the book out, inspecting it quickly.
âYou read this often?â you asked, turning to show him the book you held.
He nodded. âI used to. Itâs been a while.â
âDo you mind if Iââ
âNot at all.â
You smiled softly, wandering back to the couch as you flipped through some pages. You settled in next to Remus once again, and he looked over your shoulder as you tried to decide on a good place to start.
âAre these all Muggle works?â
âYes,â he said softly. âI found it in an old shop when I was in my early twenties, and became quite taken with it. Itâs a collection of all different kinds of poems by different authors.â
You hummed, landing on a page with a name that almost sounded familiar.
âAuden,â you read the last name. âI feel like Iâve seen that somewhere before.â
âItâs a wonderful little poem,â Remus said, looking at the page. âIâve always liked that one quite a lot.â
âWould you like me to read it for you?â
He paused, then nodded. âThat would be nice.â
âAlright. Close your eyes again. Might as well get some rest while Iâm talking, yeah?â
He chuckled softly. âRight.â
You leaned back, right next to him as you started reading over the soft sounds of the record playing.
âLooking up at the stars, I know quite well that, for all they care, I can go to hell, but on earth indifference is the least we have to dread from man or beast. How should we like it were stars to burn with a passion for us we could not return? If equal affection cannot be, let the more loving one be me,â you sighed softly, letting the words wash over you. âAdmirer as I think I am of stars that do not give a damn, I cannot, now I see them, say I missed one terribly all day. Were all stars to disappear or die, I should learn to look at an empty sky and feel its total dark sublime, though this might take me a little time.â
You hummed, reading it again silently to yourself.
âThat is a lovely poem.â
âOne of my favorites in the book,â he replied, his eyes still closed. âWould you mind doing another? You have a lovely reading voice.â
You smiled, fighting the warmth rising in your cheeks. âOf course.â
You chose a few more, reading each one with equal awe at the imagery painted in words. You only stopped when you felt a pressure on your shoulder. You looked down in the middle of reading a particularly long poem, seeing Remusâ head against your shoulder. His breathing came in soft and even, signaling that heâd fallen asleep.
You reached up before you could think about it, brushing some of his hair away from his forehead as he dozed off, smiling softly when he nuzzled into your shoulder a little more as you touched him. You shut the book, leaning your head against his and closing your eyes as his soft breathing washed you in a sense of peace. You smiled to yourself, slowly drifting off yourself.
You waited anxiously the next week for news of whether or not you got into the order. You really hoped so, and for more than one reason.
Obviously it would be nice to join something that is all about fighting on the right side. And you were sure youâd do really well in a role like that, helping not only with the fight, but with patching people up afterwards.
But a secret, much more selfish part of you, just wanted an excuse to spend more time with Remus. After you both woke up on his couch, you had definitely been a little more⌠close to one another. Especially after you teased him a little for how pink his cheeks got when he woke up with his head on your chest. You met for tea in your apartment twice that week, under the guise of making sure his leg was healing. Even though you both knew it was practically fully healed after the first twenty four hours.
Suffice to say that you were ecstatic when Sirius came knocking on the door of your apartment with a smile and news of your acceptance into the order.
You stepped into Grimmauld Place, following behind Sirius like a lost puppy. It was strange to hear so many voices in the place. You were quite used to it being fairly quiet, with the only upset coming from either Sirius or Remus saying something that got the other worked up. Which, to be fair, was pretty often. But it was nothing like this.
He led you to the dining room, and it was pretty much full. You noticed some familiar faces: Remus, Dumbledore, Moody, Molly and Arthur, and⌠Snape. You nudged Siriusâ shoulder when you saw him.
âOf course he had to be at my first meeting,â you whispered.
Sirius quirked a brow, a distasteful look on his face as he shrugged. A few heads turned towards you, Snapeâs face immediately showing recognition and quite a bit of surprise.
âEveryone, our newest member,â Sirius began, shoving you in front of him a bit, announcing your name to everyone who didnât know you.
You got some smiles from those you knew, and some questioning looks from those who didnât.
âAh,â Dumbledore said kindly, standing from his seat. âItâs nice to see you again. I didnât expect you to join us, but it was quite the pleasant surprise when we received news from Sirius that youâd shown interest.â
âNice to see you again, too, sir,â you said plainly, giving him a small smile.
He turned to others at the table. âAs some of you may recall, Y/N always had a special affinity for herbology. Sheâs quite talented, and has volunteered not only to join us on missions when they arise, but also to work as a healer of sorts for us. She specializes in medicinal herbs and plants.â
You received a warm smile from both Molly and Arthur, and a little grin of approval from Remus as the others nodded their heads to what Dumbledore had told them.
âCome along, dear,â Sirius said quietly, pulling out a chair for you next to a woman youâd never seen. âTonks! How are you?â
You looked at the woman as Sirius did, and she smiled brightly. âBetter than ever.â
âYouâve met our newest member?â
âNo,â she shook her head, holding out a hand to shake. âNice to meet you. Nameâs Tonks.â
You smiled, shaking her hand and introducing yourself. âItâs nice to meet you. Cool hair.â
She reached up, running a hand through the pink locks with a smirk. âThanks. You know, youâre awfully cuteâŚâ
âCareful,â Sirius started. âDonât want to flirt with Mooneyâs girl too much.â
âOi!â you exclaimed. âCut that out.â
âAh, thatâs a shame,â she said before you could scold Sirius further. âAlways gotta like the straight girls.â
âWell, nobody said she wasâŚâ
âSirius. May I remind you that you are not running a dating service,â you said quickly, quirking a brow.
He rolled his eyes, leaning back in his seat just as Dumbledore started the meeting officially. You smacked him gently on the chest, receiving a playful smile and a more appropriate sitting position as a result.
You listened intently as Dumbledore updated you all on the most recent missions and other pertinent information. Though, as he started assigning missions to people who werenât you, you took the chance to look around the table. You tried to commit a few names and faces to memory, though you knew youâd probably forget them within the hour until you actually spoke to them. You finally caught Remusâ eye as your gaze drifted across from where you and Sirius sat, and he flashed you a small smile in response. One that, unfortunately, didnât go unnoticed. Though this time, the nudging of your arm came from your right side.
âLucky guy,â Tonks said quietly, giving you a cheeky smirk before glancing at Remus, who still had his eyes on you.
You merely rolled your eyes with a smile, tuning back into the meeting. You glanced at him once more, both of you turning away with shy smiles when you made eye contact again. And every other time your gazes met in the middle during the meeting.
As soon as it was over, you stood, determined to get some tea to calm your nerves. It wasnât necessarily that you were terribly anxious about the meeting or the subject matter⌠it was just quite overwhelming to take in all that information at once. Not to mention that it all happened in a house youâd grown accustomed to being fairly quiet.
You stood in the kitchen, waiting for the kettle to whistle, when you heard footsteps approaching. You turned, seeing a familiar pink-haired woman standing in the doorway.
âTea?â You offer.
She nods quickly. âYes. Please.â
You get an extra cup from the cupboard, setting it next to yours before she comes into view again, this time much closer.
âSo⌠Lupin?â
You glanced sideways at her. âHave you been talking with Sirius?â
She laughed softly. âA little. But I also have a fully functional pair of eyes.â
âNothingâs happening between us, I can assure you,â you smile back a little bit.
âSure,â she says sarcastically. âAnd I didnât try flirting with you the second you sat at the table today. You know, I canât blame you. And Iâm not judging. Heâs cute. Itâs a shame Iâm gay or else I might have approached him myself.â
You laughed at that, shaking your head. âCome on.â
âSeriously. I checked him out when I first saw him, I wonât lie,â she holds her hands up in surrender. âAnd for the record, I think you two would be cute. You canât be much younger than me, can you?â
âHow old are you?â
â23.â
âYeah, just about the same age, then. What are the chances?â
She smiled. âYouâre sure youâre really his girl? CauseâŚâ
You sighed with a smile. âIf things donât happen between me and him, Iâll hit you up.â
âGreat. I hope it crashes and burns.â
âRight,â you laugh heartily. âNothing has happened yet, but⌠And donât you dare tell Sirius this, but I do really like him. Heâs just⌠So sweet. Very different from most of the men I know. He likes old records and poetry and heâs so sweet and soft-spoken without being a total doormat. I donât know. I just think heâs wonderful.â
She smiled softly, tilting her head, watching as I poured the tea. âSounds like youâve got it pretty bad.â
âUnfortunately I think you might be right in that.â
She nudged your shoulder. âItâs not so unfortunate, you know? He clearly likes you too.â
âI donât know.â
âI do,â she said proudly. âIâm great at reading people. He definitely likes you.â
You handed her her tea wordlessly, sipping on your own. She shook her head with a small smile.
âYouâre both stubborn as mules, too,â she laughed. âYouâd be perfect together.â
Sirius poked his head in a moment later, giving you both a cheeky smile.
âJust what are you two ladies talking about?â
âBoy troubles,â Tonks said quickly.
Sirius quirked a brow, and you smacked her arm. They both laughed at you for that.
âAnything to do with our Mooney?â Sirius asked.
You laughed, hiding your face behind your mug. âShut up.â

Severus Snape Headcanons By SiriusRemusBlack
1) He is someone that values house pride to an almost extreme level. He expels any student in slytherin that has crossed too many boundaries or broke too many rules. Slytherin already has a bad reputation and Severus doesnât want it to get any worse. He wants better representation of his house, not everyone is a villain and he knows that. The kids are good, some just misguided. He doesnât feel like being lenient works, because of how the Marauders kept getting away with tormenting him as a student. He wants his students to learn right away that if they do something thatâll drag their houseâs already bad reputation further into the ground theyâll regret it immediately and immensely.
2) He definitely is more of a coffee person than a tea person. Mainly because his father only drank tea, so it leaves a bad taste in his mouth to even smell because he associates it to his father.
3) Snape has a fear of large dogs and canines because of the âprankâ that the Marauders pulled on him.
4) He is secretly an Animagi. He wouldâve gotten registered if it wasnât for the fact he was a death eater. Only a couple people know he has an Animagus form. Which is Dumbledore and McGonagall. His Animagus form is a black cat. Sometimes he gets compared to a cat because of his personality but people donât know he technically is one.
5) He wears glasses or eye contacts. Mainly for reading small letters. His eye sight isnât the best because heâs almost always in the dungeon away from any light. When heâs not in the dungeon the lights are still usually off and windows closed so itâs always pretty dark causing his eyes to become strained from the overworking just to see properly.
6) He is autistic. He is more on the sensory avoidant side. If a potion requires something that is too much for him to handle because of texture he simply uses his magic to take care of it. He only eats certain foods that he knows he enjoys. All his clothes are made of the same material he is comfortable in so he doesnât have any sensory issues in public or anywhere.
7) He has ARFID. Eating is hard for him. He doesnât have an interest in it, his sensory avoidance also makes it hard for him to try new things. If he does bring himself to eat it will always be the same things he usually eats rarely anything new.
8) He is half vampire. Garlic and the Sun donât affect him except for minor discomfort from Garlic and Headaches from the sun. Nor does he have the blood lust of a full blooded vampire. He does have the âsuperhumanâ abilities. Speed, strength, etc. Which is how he manages to sneak up on people quickly and silently. As well as why he looks similar to that of a bat, itâs just his vampiric traits shining through.

Hii! I hope this isn't strange but why do you describe your relationship with KYD as love-hate? Because kyd was the first Jegulus fic I ever read and I honestly fell in love with it so fucking hard
i feel like i lost control of it a little in the middle, and i also feel like it has some of my weakest writing in it (like some of it is just a little too "after school special" sometimes)
that being said, it also has some things i'm really proud of - Remus, Regulus, Barty, Mary - all have storylines and moments that i go back to every once and a while
I also love the first wolfstar scene when they're on the roof, i think about that one a lot
I love the storyline with Fleamont
I love the hazing chapters like 4-6
I like the way it is bookended, first chapter starts with Regulus in therapy and so does the last chapter, both ending with Under Pressure etc.
I like all the stuff I did with formatting, that was the first fic where I started playing around with how I organized words on the page and that's now something i have adopted into my writing egnerally
but i also just wish i had put more work into like, the framing of the story - regulus's internship doesn't really make sense, i don't LOVE sirius's backstory for not living at home, I don't love Walburga's storyline or her being some kind of CEO that was dumb, I should have handled the NCAA hockey stuff better, why did I make them all go to the same highschool they could have just met in University that would make more sense (like James, Remus, Sirius, Peter, Lily, Marlene and Dorcas??? Snape???? like idk that could have been cleared up), more could have been done with the rivalry between Riddle and James etc etc etc just stuff like that
SO i'm torn because there's a lot that I deeply love
but the story as a whole i just know i could have written better
