Extremely intelligent james and sirius is my everything
I can just imagine them being so nonchalantly smart and it's one of the reasons people want to hate them. They both come from insanely powerful magic families and they will research anything to achieve the prank they want.
Sirius never studies for anything, never does any homework and never passes tests and quizzes. But when it comes to the end of year assessments and the OWLs and NEWTs he gets the top marks without even blinking.
James however will study with remus. It's not because he has to but because he enjoys it. Remus calms his adhd brain and even if he's doing prank research whilst remus revises he is at the library with the books. He only takes notes around the time of the moon cuz he knows remus isn't up to it. (Especially in early years before lily was aware and closer).
I feel like both remus and Peter were always slightly jealous of sirius and james. Remus because he worked his ass off for the same grades as these idiots who did nothing. And Peter because he always felt inadequate intellectually next to them (although he probably could of done the same as remus and worked but his self asteem was so low that he never thought he could match up to them)
Even for jily/jegulus it was one of the things that drew them to james. The fact that he wasn't an outright idiot jock. The private intellectual convos they had in the middle of the night. James could always match their thought process and the random theories or late night debates were always interesting.
Everyone always assumed sirius was dumb. He was the griffindor outcast of his family that could not match up to their ambition or cunning. The first thought was that he was a man whore, over dramatic slut who wanted attention to make up for his lack of brains. He just never liked showing off academically because it reminded him of his family. When people got to know him they realised why sirius and remus work. And that he is beauty AND brains and he does have substance and potential and a future of success without following the path of every other Black.
These are the boys that created the marauders map and carried out the most elaborate pranks in hogwarts history. They became animagi at such a young age. Their names are down in history and I just think it makes sense that they are one of the smartest duos to see hogwats.

Starchaser where James is the snobby popular guy who could date anyone he wanted bc everyone trails after him all the time
People are expecting him to go for someone like Emmeline (most popular girl in the school) or Lily (an actual genius obviously) or maybe just mess around with as many people as possible just because he can and there would be nearly no repercussions
So when Sirius finds out that he is dating Regulus- who'd always had trouble with social cues, especially when so many people expected him to be a perfect pureblodo son, and was always a bit mean and proud when he was talking to people because he was never taught otherwise, and didn't really stick out at school because he was a bit more of a recluse than many other Slytherin purebloods and was 'very good' at school but not a Barty, Severus, or Lily level genius- he can't help but be so happy
Because despite James having so many people he could date, he fell for the one person everybody else would be disappointed about when they heard. And Sirius KNOWS it was NEVER a matter of James pulling out the name of an adoring fan from a hat. He knew he'd have had to connect to Regulus, see past the bitter cruelty of his mask, break down his walls, and earn his trust unwaveringly before he was able to ask him out
He knew that his best friend had settled for who he wanted instead of who everybody else wanted him to want, and he knew that his brother got to know what true care and understanding felt like from somebody who had so much to give

everyone is so fed up and jealous and angry because sirius never studies but he still has all Os on his transcript, james has spent more evenings with detentions than without and yet he's the first candidate selected for head boy, the two of them spend all class fucking around yet the second a teacher dares to ask them a question they're going to answer it perfectly + throw in 4 random facts about the topic that aren't even taught in school, they have every tranfiguration and charm perfected on their first attempt and then they laze and nap while their friends struggle to get it right even by the end of the class, they push off an essay then sit and finish it within 15 mins at breakfast the day it's due and end up getting a perfect score, they're brilliant and intelligent and bright and they know it

lily is smart in the sense that it’s a competition and she’s winning because she’s got something to prove.
remus is smart in the sense that he genuinely enjoys studying and spending the afternoon in the library.
james is smart in the sense that he gets good marks so his parents are proud of him/he doesn’t get in trouble.
sirius is smart in the sense that he’s just naturally brilliant and needs to be the smartest person in every room.

Pretty messed up how some people are fans of a creepy and obsessive guy who didn’t care if a man and a child died just so he could get the girl.
Alright, let's break this down, anon, because there's a lot to unpack here.
I think I've mentioned this in several posts already, but I'll repeat it: Severus owed James Potter NOTHING—no compassion, no empathy, no mercy. Nothing. Absolutely nothing. James Potter was a rich, popular brat who abused his social and economic capital to torment a poor, unsupported boy for seven years just because he didn't like him from the moment they met on the train to Hogwarts, and from that moment on, he had it in for him. He was a terrible bully who used his friends to join in on that nasty bullying. So if Snape didn’t care that he died, well, Snape had every right to feel that way. Do you go to victims of domestic violence and tell them they should feel sorry for their abusers? No, right? Well, this is the same thing. James was an abuser, Severus was his victim. Severus did more than enough by not telling Voldemort to torture him to death with Cruciatus, because I would have. Honestly, I don't understand why Snaters always bring up the whole "James was dead and Snape walked over his body" as if it were some horrible thing when, hello! You're talking about an ABUSER being dead, mate. Of course, he walked right over his body—what surprises me is that he didn’t throw a party.
Harry had to die. I know this sounds terrible, but it’s basically what the prophecy indicated. He was a target that Voldemort wasn’t going to let slip away, his fate was sealed. And yes, it’s unethical. And yes, it’s immoral. But the truth is that wars are unethical and highly immoral, and horrible, monstrous decisions are often made. Harry was not an option—asking for mercy for him was pointless because there wasn’t going to be any.
I don’t think Severus ever believed that if James was out of the picture, Lily would go to him or anything like that. I mean, they hadn’t spoken for five years—about six by that time. Severus NEVER harassed or stalked Lily. The only time he went after her was when the whole SWM incident happened, and he tried to apologise. Once she made it clear she didn’t want anything to do with him anymore, Severus respected her decision, and as far as we know from canon, they never interacted again. So, I don’t think, after six years of not talking, with his supposed former best friend having married and had a child with his personal bully, Severus had many expectations of them ending up in any sort of romantic relationship. I think, quite simply, that Lily always represented the only good part of his childhood—the only happy memories, the only moments of peace amidst the hellish violence he endured at home. I believe this was crucial for someone like him, whose childhood and teenage years were marked by violence, and he wasn’t willing to let the one good thing in his life end up murdered.
I agree that Severus is highly obsessive, but haters tend to frame this in a derogatory way, referring to his "obsession" with Lily, and I think it needs some clarification. Yes, Severus is obsessive, and he’s terribly immature at times, and he overreacts enormously when confronted with something that really triggers him (just look at how quickly he loses his temper with Sirius, for instance). This is obviously because he’s someone who never had the opportunity to grow up normally or develop cognitively as he should have, because his whole life was marked by violence. His home life was violent, and at school, he endured violence, and then at 20 years old, he handed his soul over to Dumbledore’s cause and had to work for nearly two decades at a school that was the epicentre of many of his traumas. He literally had neither the spaces nor the environments needed to heal and grow into a functional adult, and you can clearly see this in his behaviour. I’ve always said Severus is more of a diva than the cold, mysterious character people often make him out to be in fanon. To me, he’s someone who, on a personal level, hasn’t been able to grow emotionally in a healthy way and doesn’t know how to manage certain situations, especially those tied to his emotional issues. That said, I also don’t think he was romantically and/or sexually obsessed with Lily. I do think he loved her or was infatuated with her in his youth—first love, crush, whatever. But I don’t believe his need to avenge her death was due to romantic or obsessive love. I think it’s more about his obsession with repaying his debt to her. Severus always felt partially responsible for Lily’s death, and that’s where his obsession lies: it’s not that he’s obsessed with her, per se, but with the fact that he feels guilty for what happened. He feels, in some way, responsible for the death of the one person who showed him kindness, affection, and care during his childhood, which made her the most important person in his life at one point. And guilt often leads to obsession, much like grief that is not properly processed, and I don’t think that kind of obsession is creepy. I think it’s a very human kind of obsession.
Lastly, I don’t find Severus creepy at all. Why is he creepy? I mean, Harry was running around with his invisibility cloak, spying on everyone. The Marauders had A BLOODY MAP that allowed them to track everyone at Hogwarts 24/7 like some kind of magical GPS. Is Severus really the creepy one here? There are literally Animagi who turn into animals to spy on people—I have to laugh at the whole creepy argument.
That being said, if you’re going to come into my DMs to complain about Severus, at least bring some convincing arguments because it’s a bit tiresome hearing the same nonsense over and over again.

prongsfoot where james gets into a fake argument with sirius about some nuanced subject (like transfiguration theory) just because he finds it funny and hot when sirius goes off on a rant/infodump (and he's always effortlessly right) about said subject

“James. I think i’m homophobic.”
There was rustling on the phone on the other side as James laughed. “What makes you say that?”
“Whenever Remus brings home guys I feel really weird about it.” Sirius cried over the phone.
James was silent for a moment as he whispered to someone. Sirius presumed it was Regulus. “Me and Regulus are going to come over. Be there in 5”
When they arrived, Regulus looked positively delighted. “Hey Siri. Heard you’re homophobic.”
Sirius tensed and looked around, not remembering if Remus was home or not. “Shhh! I don’t want Rem to know!”
James walked in after, holding a plate of cookies. He sat them down on the couch next to Sirius, and then sat on the other side. “Listen to me very carefully.” James said.
Sirius looked into his eyes and nodded. “Okay?”
“You’re in love with Remus.”
“What?”
“You’re in love with Remus. That’s why it makes you uncomfortable. You’re jealous.” James said. Sirius looked over to see Regulus nodding along, nibbling on a cookie.
“That’s not- oh. Oh yeah I can see that.” Sirius nods. “But Remus doesn’t like me back!”
“God save us all,” Regulus mumbled.
“Do you remember how you called me after talking with Remus? You said that he told you he would stop if you were uncomfortable with it? And how you continuously told him that it was fine? And how he got more mad?” James asks gently.
Sirius thinks for a minute before telling him, “Well yeah? What does that have to do with anything?”
“So you think that Remus wanted you to be jealous?”
Sirius gasps and jumps up. “You’re right! Where is he?”
Remus steps in through the door, carrying a few bags of groceries. “Where’s who?”
Sirius steps towards him as James ushers Regulus out the door, waving goodbyes and closing the door softly behind them. Remus and Sirius were left alone.
“Sirius, you know that guy Greg? I was think of inviting him over tonight,” Remus told him absentmindedly. “Would that be okay with you?” He asked, putting away groceries.
Sirius cleared his throat. “No.”
Remus snapped back to reality and furrowed his eyebrows. “No? Why?”
“I don’t like you with all these men.” Sirius said, crossing his arms.
Remus sighed. “Sirius why? You’ve never had a problem with it before. Is it because of that new girl I saw you with last week? I told you she was homophobic. I’m not changing who I like just because of her and her changing your point of view-“
Sirius grabbed his face and kissed him harshly. “That’s why,” He grumbled as he let go.
“Oh.” Remus said dumbly. “Oh okay. Um. I thought you were straight?”
“Me too. Until you I guess.”

Sirius always insists he has a terrible memory. "Really terrible," he'll laugh. "Actually, what was your name again?"
Remus doesn't see it though. Not when Sirius always knows exactly where James left his socks, or what obscure extracurricular Pete's packed into his schedule now. Especially not when he learnt the dates for every full moon in the next fifty years when researching lycanthropy.
"You know, I don't think your memory is as bad as you say Padfoot," he mentions while they're alone in the dorm. Remus doesn't have a clue where James and Pete are but Sirius wouldn't even have to check the map.
"What're you on about? It's literally rubbish."
Remus raises a brow. "You had every single possible quidditch infraction stuck in your brain - before James did!"
"Yeah well," Sirius shrugs. "That's quidditch. It's just for stuff I care about."
Reaching over and grabbing the nearest textbook, History of Magic: Year 3, Remus flips to a random chapter. "Really? You cannot convince be you care about, hmm," he clears his throat and in his poshest, most snooty voice, says "Changes in potion composition during the French occupation of England." No one could care about that. Not even he did and he actually liked History of Magic.
At least the voice made Sirius giggle. "Shut up. History is easy, it's just dates."
"Then what isn't?"
"Uhh, I don't know," Sirius goes quiet more a moment, then laughs again. Though this time it doesn't quite reach his eyes. "See, this is what I mean."
Remus waits while Sirius works his tongue into words.
"I can't really remember much from my childhood. Sometimes my mum will say something, like 'you were such a difficult child, remember when you did so-and-so' and I pull up a complete blank. Merlin that's bad of me, huh? Forgetting how I hurt people."
Sirius' fists ball up in his lap and Remus wants nothing more than to take them between his hands and smooth them out. He settles for shuffling closer and pressing their sides together.
"And I make things up. That feels like a memory thing too. It's not out of thin air but in my head I'll make something my mum said seem a lot worse than it was. Or I'll forget what prompted it so she seems like the bad guy. Usually I'd call her a lying cunt y'know, but even my dad and Reg agree that it's something I do a lot. Making myself the victim."
He's shaking now, Remus can feel his tremors ripping through him as well. "Sorry," Sirius sniffs. "I'm doing it right now-" he tries to say but Remus cuts him off.
"I think," he whispers, taking hold of Sirius' hand in his palm and tracing the heart line with his finger, "that you're a far better person than you give yourself credit for. And maybe your mum is a bit of a lying cunt."

Regulus: James and Sirius share a braincell, that is a fact.
James, appalled: What! No, I’m smart!
Regulus, staring him in the eyes: Okay, what’s 1,356-735?
James, staring back at Regulus: ….
James, starts smiling like a fool: …You’re so beautiful.
Regulus, smiles but then flicks him on the forehead: Idiot.
James, falls and grips his forehead while flailing his feet: NO PLEASE! I ONLY HAVE HALF A BRAINCELL!
