Help, I got pulled into dark crystal by two certain people. (YOU KNOW WHO YOU ARE SKEKLA AND @devilbinx) *Cough* Anyways. Meet Skeksyn or "the Monarch". 

He will appear only in the movie.  After the Emperor died, SkekTek took a bit of his ashes in the hope to cheat Thra and death itself. He tried to find a way to be reborn again by an untested cloning technique. The experiment went well and soon out of the ashes and young Skeksis emerged. The doctor soon realized that he did not look like SkekSo or even remember anything, which means he created a new Skeksis out of the ashes. 

SkekTek proclaimed that this experiment was futile and wanted to destroy the youngling. But SkekZok believed that this was the emperor in some way and refused to let the scientist kill him. 

SkekTek couldn't refuse the Ritual-master and gave the newborn the name SkekSyn (Skeksis +Synthetic). Pleased with the name, the Ritual-Master gave SkekSyn the title "Monarch".

He immediately replaced SkekSo's place as the ruler, which SkekSil and SkekUng immediately displeases. Another issue is that SkekSyn has no counterpart, meaning that he has both sides. Good and evil. 

It will cause conflict under the Skeksis, but also they cannot do anything, because he is under the protection of SkekZok.

What a mess! He is also only the size of a Gelfling. 

I also need to headcanon that Jen takes WAY longer to get to the place. Because in the original movie he popped up within 24 hours  after SkekSo's death in that place.

(Love)Storytime: Part 5

Up next for my little love story is SkekZok the Ritual Master. This is the one-year anniversary of me realizing I was in love with him, and I’d like to start off by saying that I blame Wendell for me falling in love with SkekZok. Scratch that. I blame he and SkekZok’s voice actor for this! Why did he have to make this creepy vulture-crocodile sound so sexy?

Anyway, let’s get down to cases. As mentioned in my Dark Crystal story time post, I had to have been about ten years old when I first watched the movie after renting it from a library. That’s around the age where I should’ve been scared or creeped out by the movie, especially the Skeksis, but I wasn’t. I was fascinated by it (I was a strange child when it came to creepy movies? Okay? I wasn’t even creeped out by Coraline), and the Skeksis especially fascinated me. But the thing is, I think for the longest time I didn’t even remember what SkekZok even looked like before rewatching it ten years later (I only remember the Emperor, the Chamberlain, the Garthim Master/General/Emperor, and the Scientist). 

But what I did remember was that SkekZok held such a proud and almost elegant persona, and he was so willing to make sure that he and his fellow brethren became immortal and didn’t meet a fate as bad as the ten Skeksis who died before them. So much so that he took matters into his own talons when Kira gave Jen the shard when no one else did. He was methodical, calculated, and always kept a close watch on his enemies to find weak spots to use for his advantage. In all honesty, SkekZok should’ve been Emperor after SkekSo died, not SkekUng. He was the only Skeksis with some sense and brain cells in him.

When Age of Resistance first came out, I decided that I did not need to watch it because I knew how it ended (please don’t kill me for this). The movie was how things ended for the Gelfling in the show. And so, I didn’t watch it for four years after it was released (and then cancelled. Screw you with a rusty, disease-ridden knife, Netflix, you assholes!). But one day, I was casually looking up my adored Wendell Belzer on a Villains Wiki, and what popped up next to his name? Oh, just a little list involving how his voice actor also voiced SkekZok in AoR! 

Now, remember how I said that I didn’t remember what SkekZok looked like? Well, at the time, I didn’t even know that the Skeksis had actual names! I didn’t know which Skeksis was which! It took me two weeks to realize that one of the loves of my life shared a voice with the Skeksis version of a high priest. And a very, very concerning one at that. The guy went from being calculated and elegant to the whole fandom treating him like the stereotypical Catholic priest because he got hungry for essence when looking at a paladin (the guy wasn’t being a pervert, he was just thinking with his stomach, and I will die on this hill). 

I, too, thought he was creepy for a while, but then I saw the headcanons regarding how he treats his mates in a respectful manner, saw (naked 🤭) drawings of him that didn’t make me feel uncomfortable like other drawings of humans would, kept listening to that sexy voice of his, and admired his beautiful hypnotic icy-blue eyes. I tried resisting him so much, I tried convincing myself that I wouldn’t fall in love with him. And then I made the mistake of listening to "I Won't Say (I'm in Love)", and SkekZok was all I could think of. He had done it. He had successfully won me over. I fell in love with SkekZok months after he became the reason I rejoined the Dark Crystal fandom in the first place. Thank you, my love.

Rewatching AOR again, and I realized something about the exchange between SkekSo and SkekZok when they think SkekMal is dead and deserves a funeral rite, with SkekZok being embarrassed admitting there is no rite since none of them died since the beginning

Originally I saw it as "strange", SkekYi and SkekHak did die, it was as if they ignored them. So I interpreted it as them not counting them or even having forgotten about them (after all the movie shows they did forget about Aughra too)

Then we all saw the tableboard with all the Skeksis titles on which was "Spy Master" we all suspected to be SkekUng, and there were 2 other ones, the Merchant and the Steward. 18 in total. So we supposed those were SkekYi and SkekHak. Especially since apparently in the new canon from the novels SkekHak IS still alive so who knows, AOR being even different it wouldn't be far fetched they both would be. Unless those were for flashbacks or storytelling

But upon listening to it again, SkekZok says "no Skeksis has died since-" then pauses as if self censoring or scared, and finishes more nervously and vague "the beginning...". Now sounding like it's not that no one died from the start, but no one died SINCE the start but they had at this very moment. Which is making me think that Skeksis (so SkekYi and/or SkekHak) DID die at the beginning, but it was not talked to again out of fear of death, out of censorship, and that it was so early there was no rite and they just got rid of the bodies. Making more sense why SkekSo would ask for a rite supposing perhaps SkekZok had actually done some sort of rite instead of none, rather than assuming there was one planned in case one would die which is weird from a species who refuses to see Death as a possibility

Making me also think. Everybody at this moment thought comatose SkekMal was dead. "None" of them having died, it was logical they would not know an actual dead Skeksis fall into ashes since it was not the case of other species. But if indeed SkekYi and/or SkekHak died at the beginning they should know. Meaning either they forgot/self-censored and self-convinced to forget as a denial of their mortality, OR they did not fall into ashes. Meaning my headcanon that the Skeksis originally wouldn't fall into ashes when dying but do so now only because they are very ancient and years catch up all of sudden may be true after all !

And if TDC AOR Tactics' comment that SkekMal's mask looks like a Skeksis skull is to take seriously and canon, it could truly belong to obe of them like I HC it is

If you don’t mind, I’d like to present some voice headcanons I had stashed away?

For some reason, I hear Breg sounding like Satoru Gojo from the Jujutsu Kaisen dub. He’s got a real pretty voice that’s somewhere between teenage boy and grown man.

Morell feels like he sounds very similar to Killer Croc in The Batman. I know you said that he has a Rexas drawl, but Ron Perlman with a Cajun accent just hits different.

And for Krulu, I hear skekSo from The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance. Both are insanely-paranoid control freaks that have similarly-alien aesthetics.

These are just a couple, but I don’t wanna make this ask too long

Breg's voice is a conundrum for me, I can't settle on anything yet, so I guess people are free to interpret it as they wish. :] Satoru definitely isn't a bad guess though, he fits the general description! He's a contender so far, if I don't find anything better, then he'll be the voice claim.

Morell is a frustrating case for me, because I'm picturing something extremely specific, and yet I just can't find it!! It's a stereotypical southern drawl, but I just- Can't find the perfect one. It drives me nuts. I don't think Killer Croc fits, but it is a nice voice.

As for Krulu, I have to go with The Nowhere King from Centaurworld. He has an insane amount of range and can often mimic the voices of others if he feels the need to.

Eternal Love: A Dark Crystal AU: Extra Scene

This is a scene from my AO3 fanfic that I wanted to make extra for you guys. I’m also using it as a @dark-crystal-week entry for Headcanon/AU day. I was originally also going to draw this scene however since I’m rather busy today since I will be working I figured that I’d do this little teaser instead. Hope you all like it. In this excerpt I bring out a taste of the benevolent character SkekSo used to have and for those of you who don’t know or haven’t read my other posts it also features my main Skeksis Oc (who is also where my username comes from btw) Empress SkekZieZu.

The sun had just set on the planet of Thra and the Empress of the Skeksis, SkekZieZu, Emperor SkekSo’s mate was standing on one of the many balconies of the Castle of The Crystal as she gazed at the starry night sky above her. Being busy with the politics of the Castle, SkekZieZu found stargazing after a long day to be rather relaxing so she tended to do it before she retired for the evening. As she was looking at the beautiful stars above Thra she heard someone clear their throat as a voice stated “I wondered where you got to my darling Empress.” She knew right away who it was. Her beloved Emperor and her mate so she said in reply “Stargazing relaxes me after such a stressful day.” Making SkekSo chuckle as he walked up and stood next to her and placed his left hand on her’s before he said in agreement as he too sometimes found the everyday politics of the Castle boring “Tell me about it. All I deal with is complaint after complaint from other Skeksis or listen to their problems. Today the Scientist wanted me to take a look at some new experiment he was working on which didn’t interest me in the slightest. Then the Chamberlain and the General got into an argument as they’ve been at each other’s throats all the time recently so I had to break that up. Thank you for helping me with that by the way my love. Sometimes I’m still lucky to have you as my mate and ruling at my side.” Causing SkekZieZu to answer back as she turned her attention to look into his icy blue eyes “SkekSo you’re my Emperor. You know I’ll do anything to please you and help you out.” SkekSo knew that SkekZieZu meant every word that she said. Even during her days as the Peacemaker she would always speak on his behalf when he initially took power and not everyone listened. Her loyalty to him was steadfast from the very moment SkekZok the Ritual Master named him Emperor and he cherished it even if he hadn’t always shown it in court as he said with a smile “I know you would sweetheart. Your loyalty to me has never been shaken. Never once plotting against me even though you had the support of so many members of the court with your beautiful speaking talent. Sometimes I think you rival even the Chamberlain’s silver tongue when you speak your mind on matters.” Then he wrapped an arm around her and pulled her close as they both looked into the night sky, SkekSo resting his head on top of SkekZieZu’s as they did so before SkekZieZu stated this time “I’m honored to be your mate SkekSo and a compliment about how to court listens when I speak just as good as they listen to you really means a lot to me. Getting a compliment and approval from the Emperor himself is any Skeksis dream.” SkekSo then stated as he spoke in reply “When subordinates show their loyalty to me as much as you have they deserve such a compliment my sweet.” Making SkekZieZu blush slightly as she answered back “SkekSo you’re being so sweet.” Again making the Emperor chuckle as the two continued to stare at the night sky.

How would SkekSo react to recieving body worship? My favorite thing about him is his cheekbones so id focus on that

At first, he’d bristle up, acting offended and ordering you to stop, that he isn’t some...being to be coddled on.

It’s not that he hates it, though. He just does not want to be seen as weak, he has a reputation after all.

The only way he allows you to even begin to worship his body(Sexually or not), is where he tells your where to go, and you remain there, focusing on that one spot until he tells you.

He has to be in control of it, he will not allow you to simply do as you please. He is the Emperor, and you will obey him.

skekSo is incredibly vain and prefers that his partner is too. There is no place for modesty with the Emperor, and a humble lover will be encouraged to lean into their pride through constant encouragement in the form of eloquent compliments. After all, the Emperor will not be seen with someone who does not equal his level.

You will be adorned with the most luxurious clothing, the best that Ekt can make from the finest materials, the rarest jewels and metals, from the deepest and most dangerous mines in Thra.

Oh boy a triple feature! :D Here we go, folks!

Under a read more cause its going to get long but each listed character will be split apart evenly!

First up is Baron Dark!

Why I like them: He is just bombastic in personality! He lives loud in his actions and words, participating in most of the action himself while also showing he is a threat and menacing altogether! I also like that he is one of the few villains that shows he cares for his crew as a “family” (at least for most part of the series before being overtaken with obsession to have power more on his own). Given the dynamic we are given from the show, its obvious he cares and treats them all on a level of respect as well, something so rare to see nowadays! And I also enjoyed that his reasons to take over and do the shit he did in the series, “Because I can!” is just as refreshing and fun to see in a villain too!  And again, his design is a top tier design I love overall! Its menacing, powerful, and outright amazing! Definitely adds to the character and how well he works in effect to keeping my attention! Like just look at that design! And his VA did a wonderful job of adding to that charm that is just delightful to see in his personality! Overall, he is totally a villain I would love to see more of in the future!

Why I don’t: I say my dislikes often fall on the usual tropes of a kid’s show of the 90s. He talks too much when he could be doing things himself and falls victim to the typical “I am too powerful” but doesn’t think of the obvious steps ahead that will be his downfall. But honestly, its so small I don’t find it jarring or that bad to be in the way! It was the 90s and aimed at kids at the time, so we can’t expect TOO much out of that xD

Favorite episode (scene if movie): Oh man, that’s a tough one cause every scene/episode Baron is in he totally slays it! Its either a tie from the first episode to the very last one cause the stakes of start and finish are so well done, I love it all! 

Favorite season/movie: Obviously, the TV series is the best version of him! The comics sucked and turned him too OOC from what was initially given! Like how does one go from point A to be Z so freaking fast? xD

Favorite line: “Because I can.” Yeah, not gonna lie this was indeed my favorite line of his xD

Favorite outfit: Honestly, the outfit he gains near the end of the series is by far my favorite! Its like a mix of the Bejeweled Catacomb Saints and Mictlantechutli put in one and its befitting of the Baron given his gain in power! 

OTP: Baron and Cyborn are my OTP and are married, fight me. 

Brotp: Definitely Brotps with the rest of his henchmen though I see them more being like his adoptive children! 

Head Canon: Baron is of indigenous background! I also like to headcanon that the white tuft/strands in his hair are truly his and have been there since birth!  (I have so many more HCs for him but I will keep it short cause it can go all day x’) )

Unpopular opinion: Don’t think I have one, at the moment at least. 

A wish: To have gotten more information/lore on him and the entire cast, honestly! I would have loved to see more of his character explored and what more he could have had to offer as a series main villain! Hell, the whole damn series had so much to offer! And just the relationships he has with the others and what more he could have done post season and before! So much potential there to be explored! I honestly would not be objecting to a reboot/revival or continuation of the series! 

An oh-god-please-dont-ever-happen: Though with that said, if a reboot does come around, don’t turn it into the mess of current cartoons we have. Not that they are all bad but most of them have been very disappointing in keeping my attention and liking. Keep the same type of messages it had before! It worked beautifully as it did then and still does work now! I’d love to see the same formulas used while also updating it to be more gritty and mature like they did for Castlevania! Just... Don’t turn it into a cringe worthy mess that will ruin Baron and all the characters in the series! Don’t do what the comics did! 

5 words to best describe them: Charmingly evil, badass, fun, conniving bastard, and menacing.

Next is Ariandel!

Why I like them: Oh boy, there is a lot to say in terms of why I like him but I will try to keep it short and simple for time purposes!  His design is top tier for me! Like a rotting skull like face? Check! A monstrous body much like a bird’s? Check! And to add he is a giant Corvian, which are one of my favorite enemies in Dark Souls III!  His personality also differs from the usual loud, bombastic, and proud characters I tend to gravitate for. Instead, he’s withdrawn and rather sad to look at and hear. You know he’s going through a lot but don’t know exactly what it is. In game, one can sort of get hints as to what has gone on behind the scenes but at the same time, its still vague and hard to really pinpoint what really did happen. So he has that air of mystery to him that I honestly adore in many characters as it leaves room to explore deeper into their lore! But I also find his personality relatable as well as sympathetic.  But that’s just me, I can gush about him all day but I will cut it short here x’)

Why I don’t: To be honest I don't have any reason not to like Ariandel other then the small fact that he followed Friede and let the Painted World rot in such a terrible state. But that is so minor of an issue to me to really make a difference, lol. I adore this giant bird man!

Favorite episode (scene if movie): I have to say the scene where he ultimately snaps and breaks out of binds after seeing Friede's lifeless body before him is my favorite scene of his. The amount of pain and anguish heard in his scream and the way he moves prior and after; I can very much relate to that feeling. Sometimes, actions truly convey the emotions better in the most powerful means necessary. And this scene alone truly nailed it.

Favorite season/movie: He's only ever seen in the Dark Souls III DLC, so obvious answer points to the DLC!

Favorite line: "When the Ashes are two, a flame alighteth. Thou'rt Ash, and fire befits thee, of course..."

Favorite outfit: Uhh, he doesn't really wear any clothes save for his cape? So I guess the cape does him well as he is, though I always draw him without it xD

OTP: To be honest, I don't ship him with any canon characters within Dark Souls. Friede does not deserve him..

Brotp: Ariandel being best friends with the Ashen One is my ultimate Brotp! Just think of how much of a valuable ally he could have been!

Head Canon: I know his origins are debatable, as either theory I have for him can be plausible but I often lean more towards the idea of him being half Giant and half Corvian! IDK why but I just like it a lot more x’)

Unpopular opinion: While Ariandel is partly responsible for what happened to the Painted World, I still feel he was manipulated overall and probably at one point did have a change of heart before being forced into complete isolation. He plays more the role of the willing/unwilling accomplice then the actual perpetrator of the crime.  

A wish: He could have had a happier ending without having to die for Friede. I know, its Dark Souls. Such a thing is expected to happen in the Soulsborne series but its a wish, right? 

An oh-god-please-dont-ever-happen: That anything beyond the infatuation he had for Friede took place. Just.. No. He loved her but never could ever have her in that sense and never did. Just no, she is horrible to him. 

5 words to best describe them: Sad, lonely, birdman, withdrawn, and tragic

My nickname for them: Papa bird

And lastly for skekSo!

Why I like them: I think its as obvious as the case for Baron Dark. I like evil, smug bastards that shine through their wickedness and don't usually hold back. In the case of skekSo, I actually didn't care for him at first but then after my second viewing of the show, I started to like him more and enjoy his villainy! He's selfish, arrogant, vain, and conniving and I love it! Added that his design is really appealing to the eye and how he carries himself out, I gotta say he's one of the few villain characters from a show that makes the turn around for me to like them instead of hate them more. Also, his voice. Can NOT go wrong with that voice cause DAMN, its good and shows just how powerful a villain can be with a voice like his. And those eyes. Oh man, those eyes!

Why I don’t: Despite his villainy being the main point that caught my attention, its also a part of his downfall too. His constant greed and arrogance pushed him too far into doing what he did and ultimately cost him everything in the end; including loyal allies that end up dying for him in the long run. I hate how easily and quickly he changes his mind when actual logic is put into perspective of his plans and how quick he is to dismiss someone else when they don't please him anymore or things don't go his way for the smallest things. And yes, that is part of his character, I know that. That is what makes him as scummy as he is and why I love how trashy he is. But I also can't ignore just how easily he pushed skekVar away and believed skekSil despite knowing just what a lying bastard he is. IDK, it just feels too obvious but at the same time, it is what it is and I am not upset about it in the least x)

Favorite episode (scene if movie): Honestly, I enjoyed all the scenes with him in the show but mostly in particular with his interactions with skekVar, especially towards the end of the series. It showed a peak part of his vulnerability in his character that honestly I doubt he ever shows to anyone else. He spends most of his time pushing others around and making them fear him but with skekVar there is a sort of mutual respect going that really speaks out in a different way. Maybe I am just reading too much into it, but I always did enjoy how they interacted with one another!

Favorite season/movie: Well, skekSo didn't get much screen time in the movie other then him dying and turning to dust so.... Definitely enjoyed him more in the show then the film xD

Favorite line: "NOOOOO!" (Yes, this scene is still very infamous to me for personal reasons but the way he carried out his "no's" cracked me up each time xD)

Favorite outfit: Honestly, the main outfit he wore throughout the show. It's just so regal and goth, I love it! And as a goth and fashion enthusiast myself, I am all up for the style he has! The battle armor he wore near the end made it a tad more laughable to be honest.

OTP: I started shipping him with skekVar but ended up with an OT3 of skekVar and skekZok. So now all three of them live in a happy relationship with each other in my noodle~

Brotp: I see him being on neutral terms with skekMal! 

Head Canon: I feel that even in the show it wasn’t seen or given, but he did feel a lot of remorse and regret after the loss of skekVar. He seemed very close with him and spoke with skekVar with more trust then he did the others. Perhaps in secret he did mourn the General’s loss. 

Unpopular opinion: Does this count as an unpopular opinion? I know most people see him with just a few strands of hair but I tend to see him with a head full of long flowing white locks he keeps hidden beneath his clothes. It adds to the extra layer of vanity for a proud Emperor such as he! He looses it over time the darkening consumes him and withers down his health. 

A wish: To see what he was like as an urSkek prior to being split up into a Skeksis and urRu. Yeah, I know people don't care or like the urSkeks all that much but honestly, I would LOVE to see more urSkek lore and see what it was that made SoSu so special among his peers. It was said, after all, he had a voice that could move the stars but was conflicted and consumed with darkness. Honestly, I want to know why and who he was prior to all of this mess! When you start to care for him more that’s when he wants to get to know more about you and such

When he starts to catch feelings for you he starts to kind of flirt with you and maybe act more like a gentlemen and whenever he is eating dinner with the rest of the skeksis and your there he’ll eat with some more table manners just to impress you.

If you around other skeksis,gelfling,podlings or anyone for that matter he’ll call you over to his throne so your next to him at all times it doesn’t matter if your busy or not he wants you next to him at all times.

He's the sort you really don't want to anger- he'll plan horrible vindictive things for you in a long, drawn out, multi-step plan that gets worse and worse the longer his grudge against you goes on.

Being on his good side isn't much better, mind you.

All of that stately, agust manner he exudes is little more than a facade, only a way for him to have some sort of pious position over the others.

When he does forgive you for a slight, he'll make it a grand gesture meant to attract the most attention possible- yet another way to both remind everyone of his graciousness and humiliate the sufferer.

Takes the most pains to make every little gesture a well-articulated message.

Has alot of deeply buried emotions and anxiety as a result.

The only time he can actually express these less-stately feelings is during his personal "purges" which involve alot of instruments of torture, dead podlings, and a rather messy, incredibly gorey scene afterwards. Of course, no other skeksis is allowed to see these little "temper tantrums" but everyone knows about them. It's said that this is how he comes up with new rituals.

Rituals and punishments are another source of catharsis for him.

Alot of his less painful rituals are usually just glib. Fancy mirror and smoke tricks meant to make the other skeksis fear him- not that mystical arts are above his understanding, he just sees them as beneath him. He won't bother touching anything his other might dabble in, for fear of dipping into the taboo, blasphemy or unification

Most uptight about laws. Helped write a good deal of them and so has the most interest in their enforcement.

SkekSo:

Knows his positon of authority is the only thing keeping what's essentially a pack of wild animals in fancy clothes in check.

Only made the murdering of another skeksis taboo because he's well aware that if no law stood between skeksis and murder he'd be dust within a heartbeat.

Very aware of his own mortality. His youth could afford him a deep sense of denial upon this one fact, but no longer.

Was actually something of an adrenaline junkie in his youth, wanting to seek out adventure and danger actively just so he could have a chance to laugh in death's face and prove that fear could not hold sway over him- but age had something to say on the matter, and as regulations regarding the running of his ever growing empire began to eat away his time, he found himself more and more confined in his castle.

Very impatient when it comes to gratification. When he wants something, he wants it now.

He has no true sense of endearment for the Skeksis under his thrall- by no means does he really care for them, as he won't hesitate to get rid of any of them should they prove a threat, real or imagined- but they are, in a sense, all he truly has. They are his people, the only ones like to him on this alien world.

Once, he loved the adoration the gelfling bestowed upon him, but over the eons grew bored of it. They no longer served him, and could not fulfill his newest desires and needs...well, until recently.

SkekSo's favorite court game is making the rest believe he's favored one of them, only to watch them scrabble and fight with one another over it.

He craves power, lusts over control- if he can have neither he will dive into self-destructive tendencies, because at least if he destroys himself nothing can get him first- he'll have some control in how he goes, at the very least. He is Emperor, after all.

Highly narcissistic, but that's obvious.

SkekAyuk:

As far as skeksis go, he's actually the most decent.

Quite friendly, extroverted, easy to please.

His cooking skills are second to none. Or...well, he likes to think so. He's not above destroying any competition, if it should arise.

His idea of a friend is someone he can share drinks and new creations of his with.

SkekEkt has almost always been his BFF. You can often find them together.

The Gourmand will chase SkekEkt down just so they can try some new dish he just made- he always values their opinion, because the Ornamentalist is the only skeksis who would be completely and utterly honest in this regard.

Can take criticism well, as long as its constructive.

Doesn't actively mistreat his staff, but doesn't go out of his way to be kind to them, either.

Actually has participated in a little battle. Surprisingly, he's able to display great physical prowess- the only reason he didn't continue his career on the battlefield is because his heart belonged to the kitchens.

Adores gossip. Give. Him. The. TEA!!!

Out of all the skeksis, he's probably the most honest as well.

Actually rather squemish- prefers someone else to do the butchering for him, he just cooks the stuff.

In his youth, he adored traveling Thra to search for new ingredients- no animal was spared from becoming a part of the recipe book.

skeksis fucker this, skeksis fucker that... how about skeksis smoocher.

SkekSo: A kiss without breaking contact- foreheads pressed together, hands clasped, cheeks touching until lips meet. SkekSil: A kiss on the back of the hand that evolves to one on the lips. Its quick and gentle, barely there, maybe you imagined it.

SkekTek: A quick goodbye kiss while rushing out the door, the reality of it not sinking in until moments later. SkekVar: A shy kiss encouraged into a bolder one, a dip and arms flung around shoulders.

SkekZok: A hand tilting the chin up, slow and steady and with all the motions of the kiss simply falling into place one after the other. SkekEkt: Sweeping off the feet, dipping low, and sharing a passionate, lighthearted kiss and many quick kisses broken by laughter.

SkekAyuk: A nose nuzzle with pecks interspersed between.  SkekOk: Sitting facing each other, one in the others lap, hands on cheeks and shoulders hiked up. 

SkekLach: A tender nuzzle at the neck and cheek that travels leisurely up to the lips and back down again.  SkekMal: Strong hands on the back of heads, eyes closed, brows furrowed, much slower and precise than expected.

SkekLi: A kiss broken with laughter, having to try again and again until you get it right; wrists in hand and smiling. SkekSa: Fingers in hair, heads tilted- this kiss is dynamic and has lots of power behind it.

SkekUng: Playful and strong, some teeth involved. Its less than graceful but full of passion. SkekShod: Hands on waists and shoulders, one travelling over the back and the other staying stationary. Soft, continuous kisses that seem to last ages.

SkekOm's Relationships with the Other Skeksis

When it comes to being raised by the Lords of the Crystal, SkekOm had developed specific relationships with each of the other Skeksis lords. These relationships are strictly familial. Anyone who thinks otherwise is disgusting.

SkekOm looked up to SkekSo. All she ever wanted to do from a young age was prove herself worthy to him in hopes that he would see her as a member of the court. And while she never really understood why he valued life and fears death, she still respected the Emperor and wanted to make him proud.

SkekZok, obviously, was the one who raised SkekOm, and the Artisan sees him as her father while the Ritual Master sees her as his daughter (though he refuses to show it to obtain his regal composure)

SkekVar was the one who taught the Artisan how to fight, but there were times when he felt like another father to her.

SkekOk was her teacher. He taught her how to read, write, and all about Thra's history. However, SkekOm saw both him and SkekLach as her grandparents.

SkekEkt and SkekAyuk acted like uncles to her. Whenever her father would be too busy, he'd let the Gourmand and Ornamentalist look after her. SkekAyuk taught SkekOm how to cook and SkekEkt would make dresses and share gossip with her. When she was young, SkekOm absolutely loved hearing about how the Gourmand and Ornamentalist met and fell in love.

SkekTek was SkekOm's closest friend. And would make sure he was looked after if he was kept up in his lab for a long period of time. Sneaking him some food, making sure he was getting sleep, and offering assistance when he needed it. SkekTek even taught her about Thra's biology (in a way that didn't require eviscerating animals).

SkekOm absolutely HATES SkekSil. Whenever they’re in the same room, the Chamberlain would remind her that she doesn't belong in the Castle of the Crystal or Thra and doesn't deserve to be a Lord of the Crystal since she wasn't born a Skeksis. The Artisan woud retaliate by throwing insults and give snarky comments to the Chamberlain, ensuring their hatred for each other. In fact, she once bit SkekSil's hand at the dinner table just because she was forced to sit next to him. Which was why she had to move to sit next to SkekOk.

SkekOm once looked up to SkekUng. She respected his tactics as Spy-Master (which was his title before Garthim Master in my headcanon), and loved hearing stories about his glory days as a fighter. But that respect was short-lived the day he bested her in Trial by Stone and got her banished from the castle for a short time.

SkekOm's relationship with SkekShod is a bitter jealous rivalry to the Treasurer. He believes that his ability to get SkekZok into buying his loyalty is more useful than a false Skeksis being loyal to the Ritual Master. And when he found out that SkekOm was to be SkekZok's second-in-command if he were to be Emperor, SkekShod was not happy to say the least. SkekOm, remained unaware of this and just saw the Treasurer as someone who did not want to be confronted after and kept her distance in order to make him feel comfortable.

Whenever SkekNa would make visitations to the Castle of the Crystal, SkekOm was strictly told to keep a safe distance from him. The former Sawyer (which was his former title in my headcanon) turned Slave-Master was known for his dislike of small creatures he deemed worthless and how he'd kill them on the spot if they failed even the simplest task from him. A little human girl was no exception to this. But over time, and after she was turned into a Skeksis, SkekNa saw her as a useful warrior. That is, after she earned her status back after getting bested by his mate in Trial by Stone.

SkekOm and SkekSa had almost like an aunt and niece bond with each other, and when the Artisan was younger, she always loved hearing about the Mariner’s adventures on the seas of Thra and wanted to join her on an expedition when she was old enough. The Artisan never had the opportunity to go on any expedition, unfortunately.

SkekMal was SkekOm's hunting master. When she was 13, the Hunter was tasked to train the girl how to track and hunt. He made her a challenge that if she were to complete said challenge, he'd let her return to the Castle unharmed. Fail the challenge, and his prize would've been one of her arms. The Artisan obviously succeeded, but she remained fearful of the Hunter ever since.

SkekOm barely remembers SkekLi. He only showed up to the castle for her christening, and she can remember the Satirist being there because of his voice and the way it sounded when he teased SkekZok. SkekLi never saw any reason to return to the castle after that day.

She never met SkekGra, but has heard from SkekUng about his days as the former Conqueror and how he used to be a fearless and ruthless warrior before he became the Heretic. SkekOm often wondered about what happened to him after he was exiled from the castle.

She never met SkekHak or SkekYi, (since they died 1000 trine before she wasa born) only hearing about them in stories from SkekZok and SkekOk about how they essentially solidified the Skeksis religion.

Living with the Skeksis

(If you would like more headcanons of a particular Skeksis then feel free to send them in! This took very long to make so I do hope you enjoy)

- Lets start things off with the fact that if you are living with the skeksis chances are you’re either their slave or have royal lineage that they can use to their advantage. But I do believe that there could be another more plausible option which is: royal pet.

- Since you’re human you would rightfully be considered an oddity in Thra and what do monarchs do with things no one else has seen before? Own them. You aren’t treated as an animal of course, not when you can speak, read and write, but they do think of you as a sort of source of entertainment and envy.

- You would be a bit like a servant but that’s just in their nature, anything that isn’t a skeksis is meant to be taking orders from them. You won’t be waiting on them hand and foot but if they ask you to do something, they expect you to do it.

** I’m going to stick with the “royal pet” idea for now. **

- You met the skeksis while exploring Thra. Their carriage had come up on the path right beside you and for a brief moment you had met eyes with SkekOk through the small window. You really thought nothing of it until mere moments later the carriage had quickly halted to a stop ahead of you.

- You hesitated but continued on your way, taking nervous glances at the carriage as you passed. The face of SkekOk was easily visible as he watched you through the window and you politely said good afternoon. The door of the carriage swung open causing you to practically jump out of your skin as SkekOks head poked out.

“YOU THERE!”

“...yes?”

“Pray tell, what may you be?”

- And after a brief but slightly uncomfortable few moments of questioning you were invited into the carriage and on your way to the palace to be shown off to the others. For your sake or more realistically to ensure you would come without any trouble SkekOk made it seem as though you were being graciously invited for a warm meal and place to stay for the night, not to be gawked at.

- Skeklach and SkekOk are not exactly the most comfortable traveling companions but the skeksis aren’t really comfortable companions in general so you have to get used to that. Although granted some skeksis are better then others when dealing with you and your presence.

- Regardless of the Skeksis manners and their unnerving luring of you into their carriage you arrived at the palace after about an hour of sitting, being questions, observed, and slightly poked at. 

- There would be quite the commotion when SkekOk and Skeklach lead you into the dining hall to meet the other Skeksis. Undoubtedly there will be some screeches and gasps amongst other shocked and intrigued reactions when they first lay eyes on you. A few “what is that’s” and so on.

- Skekso demanded the meaning of “this” and your companions explained their idea being only slightly discreet about their motives. You remained where you stood, fidgeting as the Skeksis sat staring at you from their seats at the table. You began to regret your decision as you realized this was not an innocent and gracious invitation by the bird-like lords of Thra.

- Regardless of the uncomfortable introduction you were invited to dinner...well sort of. Podlings brought in a mini table and a seat and soon enough you were sat before the Skeksis with a plate of your own being watched like a circus act.

- The food is odd to say the least; slightly disgusting and a bit scarring at times but you do your best to pick at what seems edible and seem thankful for their generosity.

- After your meal you’re told that you can stay for just that night but the following morning you’re invited by the Skeksis to “enjoy a day in castle”. You spend your day being pulled from room to room by the Skeksis who are curious yet repulsed by you.

- After a few more nights spent as a guest you are invited to remain in the castle forever and while it is uncomfortable at times you still enjoy living with the odd creatures.

Skekso

- You’ll most likely spend the most time with him basically being his “pet” and entertaining him when the podlings fail to. You’re often going to be found at his side in the throne room mostly just being there to be gawked at by visitors and residents of the castle alike. It fills him with pride when he sees their awed faces knowing he “has” something they never will or have never seen before.

- From time to time you’ll be tasked with menial things like finding another skeksis and informing them of something or delivering something to them.

- He holds you at a higher regard then the podlings so he trusts you with more important tasks but really his trust isn’t worth a whole lot since he doesn’t believe the podlings capable of doing much besides cooking, cleaning and playing music.

- He gives you a great many gifts in an attempt to keep you pleased and ensure that you wish to stay with the Skeksis. He also believes that the gifts will gain him your favor and your loyalty should an issue arise within the castle. You are far more agile then they after all, you would be a good ally even if you are a mere “human”.

- Theres been times where hes awoke in a cold sweat, shivering as he’s wandered down the palace halls to your chambers. He woke you up quietly and taken you to see the darkness. He doesn’t say much as the two of you stand there he merely wants your company as he sits and watches the swirls of purple before him.

Skektek

- Skektek will undoubtedly experiment on you a little bit. Test pokes and prods, taking samples from here and there, moving your limbs and face around to examine you, etc. He wants to try to classify you/get a basic understanding of your species. He’s very curious as to what you are, where you came from and how you work.

- At times he feels sorry for you or the closest a Skeksis can be to being sorry. He’s not very fond of the other Skeksis himself so he can only imagine how you feel. He pities you, he truly does, so he’ll allow you to stay beside him in his secluded lab if you stay quiet and out of the way.

- He thinks it’s oddly amusing seeing you coo or attempt to play with his creatures. If you act kind and earn his trust he’ll allow you to take them out or help him to feed and take care of them.

- He won’t admit it but he enjoys your company and the help you provide when you can/when he asks you. It also makes him happy when you sit and listen to his explanations and watch him with interest while he works.

Skeksil

- Skeksil likes to play tricks on you. He thinks that manipulating you is fun and whenever he manages to scare you he’s overly proud. Although he does feel a slight twinge of guilt when you’re genuinely nice to him with no ulterior motive in sight. But if there isn’t a motive he’ll convince himself that there is one until he no longer feels bad for you.

- He acts sickly sweet at other times in attempts to gain your trust, gifts, sticking up for you or convincing the emperor to let you do something he originally didn’t allow you to do. If you aren’t stupid you’ll be suspicious and hesitant in trusting him.

- He’ll try to coerce you into helping him with his schemes and when you don’t agree he’ll try to persuade the emperor that you’re no good or blackmail you with false allegations. It rarely works but it does succeed in scaring you and making you wary of him.

- He quite likes your company even if he makes it so that you are uncomfortable in his presence. You’ll catch him lurking in the shadows and find that he seems to be everywhere you turn.

Skekvar

- Skekvar likes to poke and prod like Skektek but not in the same way, theres nothing scientific about his methods nor his reasoning. His touching trials don’t last for a very long time especially if he finds what he’s looking for which is just how far he can go until you show visible pain.

- A curious scratch here, nip there, knock on the elbow, grip of the wrist and an additional hard squeeze; he wants to see how strong or rather how fragile you are. I would suggest faking pain a little before his tests begin to actually hurt so that when he’s being cruel he never hurts you too badly.

- He gets very annoyed when he sees Skeksil with you, whether it be because he doesn’t like Skeksil or because he doesn’t like the way his fellow Skeksis tries to manipulate you. He’s not afraid to bellow our threats and tear the two of you apart if he deems the Skeksis behavior “inappropriate”.

- You want to watch him train? He’d be glad to show off and get your applause. Want him to teach you? He’ll give you a few basic lessons, he doesn’t want you being able to hurt any of his people badly if you turn on them.

- He does have a slight soft spot for you which if of course uncharacteristic of Skeksis. He doesn’t like it but he can’t help it.

Skeklach

- First things first. Ew. Here’s to hoping you don’t have a weak stomach. Be sure to keep a tissue around in case you get dribbled on or sprayed with... yuck.

- Skeklach doesn’t try to be rude per say but they just can’t seem to help it. They’re crude and offensive and overall just plain mean. They view you as below them; as most of the Skeksis do, but she can never seem to bite her tongue when it would be wise to.

- Shes the collector so she definitely has quite a few treasures laying around. Perhaps she’d allow you to see them …if you did something for her first of course.

- It’s quite easy to earn her favor especially when you gift her something.

“Pretty~”

SkekOk

- SkekOk is most likely the most fond of you, believing you to “be his” more than any other Skeksis, he found you after all.

- He enjoys teasing you and attempting to joke about his fellow Skeksis more or less insulting them in attempts to make you feel closer to him.

- He enjoys correcting your grammar and using big words to see the impressed look on your face as he explains their meaning to you.

- He enjoys hugs although they make him a bit flustered and uncomfortable. He never quite gets used to them but he appreciates the reward after he’s done something kind for you (most likely in an attempt to get a hug from you).

Skekayuk

- Skekayuk is the gourmand of the Skeksis so hes more often than not found eating or drinking. He’d happily explain to you how you properly eat certain gourmet Skeksis dishes if for no other reason than to have the excuse to eat more in an attempt to “show you how it’s done”. If you like food, you’ll like him and he’ll like you.

- Hes honestly quite jovial, a bit crude but entertaining to be around. If/when you earn a place at the Skeksis table you might wish to sit near him which would make him puff up in pride (and make the others jealous).

- He’ll be the first to notice if somethings upset you, mostly because he’ll notice all the food left on your plate. Upon noticing he will; as nicely and quietly as a Skeksis can, ask what’s the matter while offering you some more ale in an attempt to lighten your spirits.

- Whenever new shipments of food arrive he’ll be the first to know and the first to eagerly tell you as he urges you to come with him to the kitchen.

Skekekt

- Oh, so the Skeksis have a new doll. How nice! You’ll be dressed up in the finest they can find, there’s no way they would allow you to sit around in such drab unskeksis-like clothing.

- He’s a Skeksis of culture: theater, music, art, fashion, whichever you enjoy he would love to speak to you about. You could have hour long conversations and never tire of his company.

Skekzok

- He often enlists your help to prepare and perform his rituals, he believes you’re more capable than the podlings when handling such intricate tasks.

- He enjoys dark jokes, if you have a dark sense of humor you’ll get along well and he’ll welcome you to join him wherever he goes. You’re a great source of entertainment for him.

💚 He will be in absolute denial about having a crush on you, pushes it to the back of his mind because he doesn't want to put you in danger or think of the possibility of you not feeling the same (even though he expects you to deny him anyway).

💚 IF he does get the courage to court you it will be subtle. Small gifts that he's made himself, shy glances in your direction, never raising his voice to you.

💚 Honestly you wouldn't even be able to tell he's into you unless he gets the courage to come out and say it, which frustrates him.
