skekSo is incredibly vain and prefers that his partner is too. There is no place for modesty with the Emperor, and a humble lover will be encouraged to lean into their pride through constant encouragement in the form of eloquent compliments. After all, the Emperor will not be seen with someone who does not equal his level.

Even though I do agree with some of the critiques regarding the Mayrin arc, I have my own opinions

- I don't think the intent was to make Mayrin redeemable, but to give her more depth. Honestly, what I am seeing here is a toxic familial cycle of abuse. Mayrin was abused by her mother, Mayrin abused Seladon and Seladon abused Brea. Honestly it makes her all the more despicable, but so much more interesting. The reason Mayrin named her first born after her abusive mother was out of spite, she wanted her child to overshadow her grandmother, making people forget Grandma!Seladon never existed. Is it vindictive? Toxic? Gross? Yes, just as the story intended (I will say, however, it should have been made more clear in the story, even though it was subtext). I love her. But I HATE her.

- Though it was a problem, MariLu wasn't any more rushed than most other Gelfling romances. The wedding was cute and I ship it hard, but I hated the "Fill in the blanks" open ending. I love to make headcanons and stuff but a writer shouldn't give us a 'fill in the blanks' ending like that. In my mind Lu died at some point and Mayrin went all Queen Victoria, but still, show don't tell.

- (Copy pasting from previous post) I did not hate the way Sa was depicted in the comics, I actually enjoyed seeing this devious side to her, I only had a problem with the one moment in the last issue, but I never saw her as flawless good guy, nor as a villain, but as a complex anti hero. Though she loves the Sifa, but sees them as we see puppies and kittens, as our children who are not as sentient as us. As dogs hunt for us and guard us, the Sifa work for Sa and she cares for them in return. Wanting to seize power for both them and herself makes sense for her character.

Still, Sa was severely failed. :(. She would never 'Old Yeller' one of her pets like that. F in the chat for Fenth. The Skeksis and Urru can be interpreted as much more than good and evil, left and right brain, yin and yang, vise and virtue, ect. They are characters who are meant to be studied and people can decide what they represent but boiling then down to good and evil is...not right. Also skekGra is a thing :| so yeah.

Dark Crystal Headcanons

Skeksis usually are protective of their mates. However their protectiveness gets heightened whenever their mate is in heat or pregnant. They become very clingy and will hiss or even attack at anyone they feel is threatening (basically they turn into Canadian geese). Scenting is very important to them. The skeksis will nuzzle their mates to death to make sure their scent is on them during heat and pregnancy.

Mating rituals for the skeksis are materialistic in nature. They send their mates gifts they might like. Both parties participate in the gift giving.

When being affectionate, they typically nuzzle, lick, bite, and embrace their mate. However due to romance between the lords or anyone else in the Skeksis Empire being forbidden, they are very secretive about it (some more than others).

 The mystics are relatively peaceful, even when their mates are in heat or pregnant. They act like any normal person would around this time, protective but not to the point of ridiculousness. However if their mate is threatened, may God have mercy on the poor souls for angering these powerful natural wizards. They do scent their mates but it’s more of a friendly reminder than a threat.

Mating rituals for the mystics involve less materialistic things and focuses more on the physical. However if their mate isn’t ok with physical contact, they will respect their wishes and stop. They will also use their beautiful singing voices to attract a mate. The mystics do give gifts but it’s more along the lines of useful things like charms, tools, and the like.

Mystics, as mentioned before, are keen on physical affection. They will hug, nuzzle, and cuddle. They don’t lick or bite until later on in the relationship. They like to take things slow, much like everything else in their lives.

 Gelfings and podlings basically do the same thing humans do when their mates are pregnant. Heat is slightly a different story for them; mainly due to the fact gelflings and podlings are much more human in nature.

Gelflings and podlings are very romantic when it comes to their mating rituals. Some take things slow while others take things very fast. They will do anything under the three suns to attract a mate: gift giving, writing songs/poems, preforming great acts of heroism, and the like.

The gelflings and podings show affection by kissing, hugging, and cuddling. When they’re feeling spicy they’ll lick and bite too.

Gelflings and podlings do practice marriage, making it a very social event open to all. This openness does become less prevalent the higher you go up the gelfling social ladder (C’mon Vapra why do you got to be like that to the podlings?).

 BONUS: If the skeksis WERE able to openly engage in relationships, you bet your sweet molasses their weddings would be extravagant AF. And they better get good wedding presents or they’ll kick your sorry butt to the curb.

The mystics aren’t so keen on marriage ceremonies but they do mate for life. That’s not to say they would be opposed to a wedding ceremony though. They’d more than likely want to have a small one instead of a huge wedding.
