"You're a mess, huh?" Sirius smirked.

"And you're an arsehole," James mumbled back, but there was no fire in his tone.

He was a mess. Clothes were strewn across his bed, over the floor, even on hanging on the other boys' four-posters. He was dressed in a stuffy, horribly proper jumper that had been stuffed in the bottom of his wardrobe since he'd received it from his Great-Aunt Prudence two Christmases ago. And his hair was practically glued to his head, both magic and potions used to make it so it would probably never move again.

"Properly nervous?" Sirius said casually, sitting on top of a pile of clothes on James's bed, crossing his arms. "Why?"

Sighing, James turned around. "Because I like him, Pads. I- I know it's hard to believe, but I really fucking like him."

But Sirius did seem to believe him, because after a moment, he sighed. "Then ditch the outfit. You look like Moony in first year, and only I found Moony attractive in first year. Somehow, you got through to Reg's microscopic heart, and he's not going to want to see you dressing up like...well...not you."

Relaxing, James turned to his best friend, a smile spreading across his face. "Help me?"

"'Course, you wanker."
