feeling hopeless aboot the anim industry?

I posted this on the cesspool that is linked in. I dont want to tell you that things are going to magically return to what it was like during the height of the streaming bubble - but I do want to toss this out there, because for me these are the things that will lead to a stronger industry. (hint, it all has to do with grassroots community stuff hurhrhhr)

-------------------------------------------------------------- 1) Know what you feel is 100% valid We shouldn't be normalizing the choices and broken systems that lead to times like this, and while there are always ups and downs in industry's and things out of our control, we should also be aware of what causes it. While its ok to say "Down times will happen and we need to learn and prepare for them.", it can also lead to us ignoring patterns and being apathetic towards change. Who wouldn't feel lost or hopeless ? You're only human ! But you're not alone. 2) Find Community ! Start Community ! I love being an animator, because I don't need a job to be one. The 'Industry' is one thing, but the art of animation, of film making, of storytelling is still out there. This career wasn't given to us, we CREATED it ! And while it does take time, we can still do that. There are so many people, paths and stories that you can learn in a community, and show that there are so many different ways to find happiness and success in a tumultuous industry. I see more jobs passed around in my community group then navigating on this bonkers site.(<-- referring to linked in where i posted this originally. ITS SUCH A MESS ITS FASINATING) 3) Give your time to others This is kind of part of the above, but if you're able - Give some of your time to others through volunteering. It could be a cause you support in your city, it could be mentoring a student, it could be assisting in a local festival, it could even be supporting others in their talks or presentations by showing up. (ya'll don't know how much it helps just to have audience members to help boost events) long story short is, we have so much in us to bring joy and support to others. If you're able that will pay you back ten fold, and it does bring some serotonins in these times. (please note this does not mean illustrating someone's novel for free, I'm talking about supporting causes 'n communities ) 4) Information combats fear When we don't know what's going on, when we're not sure what caused the state of things we're in or when it will change, its easy to get sucked into a spiral. This is why its so good to have community around us, to keep us in the loop. We don't want to hand away our power and just listen to the refrain of "Well this is just how it is", because that's what frogs in water that are slowly being boiled say. We cant always tell when the temperature is being turned up. This leads back to community - because this is who make up the animation industry. If the community is empowered with information, then they have the ability to make changes. Know your labor rights, know the history of your industry, know your community and you will gain so many new defenses against people who want to suck this industry dry. Its tough out there - but there is hope. If anything, times like this put us side by side with the artists that were the backbone of this career from the very beginning. They rebuilt so we can too.

I do not support the Israeli government's current actions in Palestine. I think they are appalling. I think they're akin to responding to a murderer using a child as a shield by shooting the child point-blank, and that's unacceptable. This must stop. Palestinian people are being killed indiscriminately and the international community must stand up and say "no." The only thing with the word "Zion" in it that I understand well enough to have an opinion on it is Cotton Mather's "Ornaments of the Daughters of Zion" (1692, unrelated to the Levant or Judaism), but I know that killing innocents on this scale is wrong. I'm not sure I'd agree with every view expressed by every person linked in this post, buyt that's no excuse for some of the treatment they're getting. Most of what I've seen in my orbit has been people expressing support for the Houthis- perhaps without realizing (gods, I hope so) that the Houthis are a violently antisemitic terrorist group with the slogan "a curse upon the Jews," and are currently attacking ships unrelated to Israel. I feel like some bigoted people are taking advantage of the compassion and outrage of others to lead them down really horrible ideological paths. There are some online activist types who are led more by Vibes than research, and that's a problem when a lot of misinformation seems to confirm what they're already feeling.

The Palestinian activist whose words you linked used a phrase that stands out to me: "resistance porn." That seems an apt term for people who want to assign Good Guys and Bad Guys in this conflict wholesale, rather than recognizing it as two pretty horrible leading groups- the Israeli government and Hamas -catching innocent civilians on both sides in the crossfire. This is not a YA dystopia novel. You cannot just hate every single person on or associated with one side here, or laud every single person on the other side as a bold freedom fighter.

It's just. Like. How the hell does this go so awry from the very noble, correct, and necessary goal of Stopping The Slaughter Of Innocent People? How do the monsters using people's compassion to advance hateful agendas sleep at night?

You live with Hyunjin, and to be honest, he’s a pain in the ass. He's always teasing you and annoying you, like a persistent fly buzzing next to your ear. But despite your feelings, you have to suck it up and live with him because you both share an apartment. You don't really know what he does, and you don't really care. Your focus is mainly on your college workload. All you know is that he trains at some entertainment company or something. Whatever.

"I'ma head out," you say, preparing to take Kkami, the dog you both love equally, to the vet. Kkami has been feeling sick recently, so you both decided it would be best to get him a check-up. You walk out of the apartment, with Kkami happily wagging his tail by your side.

"Sure, keep me posted," is all you hear as you exit through the door. You're determined to take care of Kkami, even if it means putting up with Hyunjin's irritating presence for a while longer.

You drive your way over to the vet, gripping the steering wheel tightly, trying to convince yourself that everything is going to be okay. But deep down, you can't shake off the nervousness that is pulsing through your veins. As you park the car and step out, you take a deep breath, hoping it will steady your racing heart.

Entering the vet's office, you take a seat, your leg bouncing up and down rapidly, betraying your anxiety. The minutes seem to stretch into eternity as you anxiously wait for the vet to emerge from her office, carrying the weight of the verdict you so desperately need to hear.

Finally, you hear the click of the lock on the office door, and there she is, the vet, her blank expression a stark contrast to the warm smile she wore when you first met her. You try to maintain your composure, mustering some confidence even though your heart feels like it's about to burst.

As she speaks, her words hit you like a tidal wave. "He only has a week left, and he is in deep pain right now," she says, her voice filled with empathy. "You can either choose to put him down or wait. Take your time in making this decision."

The weight of her words crashes down upon you, threatening to break the fragile composure you've managed to hold onto. You can feel tears welling up in your eyes, threatening to stream down your face, but you fight to keep them at bay. This is not the time to break down. This is the time to be strong for your beloved companion.

Nodding your head in acknowledgment, you thank the vet for her honesty and advice. You rise from the chair, your legs feeling weak, but you steady yourself as you make your way back to the car. As soon as you close the door behind you, the floodgates burst open, and tears cascade down your cheeks.

Sitting there in the driver's seat, memories of all the moments you've shared with Kkami come rushing back. The joyful walks in the park, the endless cuddles on the couch, the mischievous games of chase. Each memory tugs at your heart, reminding you of the irreplaceable bond you've formed.

Through the tears, you reminisce about the times when Kkami's playful spirit brought laughter into your life, the times when his comforting presence helped you through your darkest days. It feels as though time is slipping away, and the weight of the decision hangs heavy on your shoulders.

Eventually, as the tears begin to subside, you wipe your cheeks and take a deep, shaky breath. You know that you will cherish the remaining moments with Kkami. With a heavy heart, you turn the key in the ignition and drive away from the vet's office. 

You somehow manage to drive back to your apartment, adrenaline coursing through your veins, and you burst through the door, slamming it shut behind you. The loud slam echoes through the apartment, startling Hyunjin, who was lying in his room at the time. He instantly jumps up and walks out of his room, following the sound to find you crying in a mess on the floor.

Hyunjin wasn’t exactly sure how he felt about you, he liked you but he also didn’t want to lose you as a “friend” he wasn’t sure why he teased you. Maybe it was because he loved the cute faces you made while rolling your eyes, or while scrunching your nose every time you sighed. But as soon as Hyunjin saw you in such a fragile state on the floor his brain immediately stopped working and his heart gained control over his body.

Kneeling down beside you, he sees your hands covering your face, your hair a tangled mess in front of your tear-stained cheeks. The sight of you like this is something he has never witnessed before, and it breaks his heart. As the realization dawns on him that Kkami, his beloved dog, is not with you, the pieces of the puzzle fall into place. His eyes well up with tears, but they come spilling out no matter how hard he fights them back. You look up to see that Hyunjin is also crying. What was once an annoying happy face now turned into a confused teary one makes you wail even louder. 

Gently, Hyunjin tries to calm himself down and takes hold of your trembling form. He guides you towards the couch. You shift your entire body weight into him, your tears creating small dots on his shirt. He sits you down on the couch taking a seat next to you. You hiccup through your sobs, looking up at him with red, puffy eyes. His eyes stare deep into yours, even though no words are being spoken it seems like with a simple look a whole conversation was exchanged.  He reaches out his fingers and tenderly wipes away your tears, only for more to flow freely down your cheeks. His hands cradle your face, providing a comforting warmth and a sense of security.

Between the pain of kkami and this current situation, life feels like an ongoing torment. You've reached a point where even the simplest acts seem daunting, and the weidght brings forth more tears. It's overwhelming. You try to focus on Hyunjin, to discard all the thoughts that disrupt the peace you once had.

Now, as you stare a fleeting glance at him, you can’t deny the undeniable attractiveness that emanated from his features. His eyes, perfectly placed on his face, drew you in like magnets, while his nose complimented them in a way that seemed almost too perfect to be real. And those plump lips, oh, how they captured your attention. They were so tempting, so inviting.

 Hyunjin pulls you closer, enveloping you in his warmth, and you welcome it, desperate for solace. Breaking away from the embrace, you meet his gaze. His expression carries a mix of concern, worry, and tenderness, all wrapped in his gentle warmth. Your attention drifts to his lips, slightly bitten in nervous anticipation. The sight makes them appear even more enticing, fuller, and more inviting. And in that moment, you decide to act on your impulse. You lean in and kiss him.

I paid for the show irl and I paid to watch it online. Seeing it free on YouTube did kinda make me wish I’d waited but I’m glad I saw the pre show and after show.

I know lots of people did streaming things and lots of links. But tbf to people, maybe they felt embarrassed or icky about watching it ‘illegally’ idk. I’m trying to see it from all points of view.

One point is though like, they are kinda very rich. Not like omg Bezos stupid amount but still, a hell of a lot of money. Double shared income. Multiple channels, books, tours, sponsorship, tv and film cameos. So being able to even produce what Dan did even on a smaller scale takes the privilege of having money in the first place. And notoriety. Not something the average person could pull off. 

£20 is a fair bit for people who can not necessarily afford it but really want to see the show/support Dan. But yeah, the money part really probably wasn’t up to him, charge wise.

so i think it was misunderstood and/or i might have worded it wrong. of course jimin is being treated unfairly im not disagreeing on that i think after today is even more obvious, i had hope that at least after the success of like crazy they would actually do their jobs but it looks like they rlly dont care. by official i meant it wont be released in streaming platforms to listen to, only the video on youtube, thats why theres no pre order or pre save link bcs theres no song to order or save and why would they do that? i have no idea but the way its worded on the schedule and the way theres no teaser or preview makes me think that bcs with smf pt2 it had all that and it wasnt written as official track video i think

Even if what you say is true, it makes no sense. Why release a video for a song almost a month before the album if it will only be available on YouTube, I guess? And even if what you say is true, it still demonstrates the incompetence of the companies when it comes to Jimin, as they failed to explain everything properly so that fans were adequately informed. If what you say were true, someone should definitely have explained it to the other artist involved in the song, who made a post on their Instagram with the release date and time, because I don't know if it's a case of "Verbum sapienti satis est" but that does look like song promotion. And if what you say were true, someone should have informed the design team that created the poster with Jimin's songs and labelled it as a pre-release single.

So let's hope you're not right because the anger would be even greater.

hi! i just saw an old post of yours regarding a very indepth s4 youtube playlist and i'm intrigued! i know the basic stuff since i watched some streams around that time but i've been meaning to finally sit and watch s4 from beginning to end. would you be so kind as to drop a link? thank you :]

gonna assume you mean lifesteal (i also have a dsmp s4 playlist haha. i love Making Playlists. love to Curate) and i've actually got a few lifesteal playlists! well. sort of. i have like One in-depth playlist and then i've got Other People's Playlists

so the first thing i recommend which has every* lifesteal s4 edited video (no** VODs) is this playlist by @aroaceacacia -- it's how i got into lifesteal to begin with and i cannot recommend it highly enough. when you finish, keep an eye on zam's youtube channel, i believe he is the only one still editing his s4 & his finale should be coming out soon (a year late) lmaoooo * it is actually missing one video, but it's near the end + it DOES the behind the scenes for that video so it's easy to add in ** technically it's got one (1) 2-hour cut from a Subz VOD which is more VOD-like and less of a Highly Edited Short Video but p much all the rest of the 285 videos are more highly-edited official-yt-channel VideosTM, and even the Subz VOD is a cut from a 24-hour stream rather than the full thing.

unfortunately i don't know of any curated VOD playlists or overviews that cover the beginning of the season, by me or by anyone else--I might work on this at some point but rn unfortunately i haven't actually watched much early s4 :( although if you want, send me a follow-up ask and i'll do my best at a "major events" playlist, mixing edited videos (esp early-season where i havent Watched the VODs) with particularly important VODs for the stuff i Have seen? this would b p easy for me to make i just havent bc i didn't know if there would b interest. ive also been working on a timeline google doc covering all of s4 that includes both VODs and edited videos so, again, lmk if you're interested in that!

the second thing i recommend is this google doc by @myrmica , which starts covering things in detail in december 2022 and has super detailed notes for a BUNCH of VODs. absolutely invaluable resource. my primary recommendation if you want to watch vods from mid to late s4 is to just read this doc and add all the vods that look interesting to your personal playlist.

in terms of in-depth playlists i have, the main one i have is an eclipse federation playlist! it's got a couple vods or cut-down videos of pre-eclipse-fed for some context but mostly it covers eclipse federation's journeys from their formation to the end of the server. i skipped some streams that were just grinding or destroying end portals or similar but if you want those also you can go through the myrmica google doc. NOTE: this ONLY covers eclipse federation!!! and it covers them in pretty close detail!!!! things that get left out of this include stuff like most of the preparations for pangi & zam's god-off, 3ht's trap war, a lot of poopies shenanigans, the team awesome breakup, and of course everything that happened in the Several Months before eclipse federation formed.... basically anything that wasn't relevant to eclipse federation's journey. meanwhile there are multiple 4-hour VODs that are just zam thinking about his relationship problems and nothing rly happens. i honestly would not recommend this unless you are specifically looking for more detail on eclipse federation specifically lol. also i wasn't sure how to handle "there are 2-3 streams of the same events with different povs that have some nonoverlap and some overlap" so...sometimes i include both povs and sometimes i dont. it's a judgement call & i highly recommend going thru the myrmica google doc and making your own playlist--all the vods in this playlist are also on there, eclipse federation didn't Form until mid season 4 so all eclipse-federation-relevant streams are covered

also i've linked this before but ive got a more medium-length eclipse fed playlist that mixes VODs & edited videos so check that out if you want

and of course where would any of us be without the archivist VOD spreadsheet. not super useful if youre looking for Curated Playlists but i need to shout out archivists forever & ever

she admitted all of this. and then a few minutes later in this very same video, goes "this isn't inappropriate behavior with minors nor can it be called grooming. the argument just comes down to 'you didnt try to keep minors out hard enough, therefore you're in the wrong' when there wasnt anything else i could do to gatekeep it. what, did you want me to demand ID verification? if it says 18+ that means 18+ plus and if its good enough for the platform its good enough for me"

you didn't try to keep minors out at all. you didn't say "this is an 18+ stream because there might be nsfw content in it, if you're a minor don't want it". you didn't follow the platform's guidelines either, so no it's not "good enough for the platform" and no one could use youtube's guidelines as a measure of what they should or should not be watching. many times an 18+ stream on youtube only really features dirty jokes, violence, and a lot of swearing because sexual nudity or nudity in general IS NOT ALLOWED!!!!!

you're making shit up to dance around the fact you were inappropriate around children. when you got any backlash towards it you just made your discord server 18+ only but the damage had been DONE AT THIS POINT. you admitted you were doing shit you shouldn't have been doing yet you are bending over backwards to frame yourself as someone who couldn't help but be put in that situation and had no other way of conducting herself. you didn't have to break youtubes TOS. you didn't have to give a vague non-answer to a literal child who asked why a stream was 18+ because they were confused why you would be linking it in the safe for work channels where children were present. you didnt have to do literally any of that and it is not unreasonable to say You Shouldn't Have Fucking Done That. no one is saying you should have ID checked everyone in your discord server and stream, but you should have been clear and upfront about what the stream was going to include, linked it only in nsfw channels, and probably shouldnt have fucking broken youtube's TOS for sexual nudity. there are places to post your tits on the internet with the reasonable expectation children won't see it but you didn't care to do that. you're the fucking problem in this situation

it's not exactly what I wanted and I probably should have thought a little more about how to word things beforehand but whatever I'm tired so I'm not trying a second take.

now a few comments to answer the questions i expect to get if any more than the usual 3 people see this before i get them;

those people that have told me they cant voice train have also once told me its ableism for me to say that that's not true and that they're lying to themselves. And yes, there are some people who for medical reasons may not be able to do vocal training due to problems relating to their larynx or voicebox. This is not about them! That said, being autistic does not stop you from doing vocal training. Having ADHD does not stop you from doing vocal training. Yes, it may be somewhat harder because autistic people and other neurodivergents often have difficulty managing their inflections and tone. It may be somewhat more difficult for these people as they will need to pay more attention to those things but that is not an impassible barrier.

For people that say they tried and it just didn't work; You don't know how to move the muscles you need to to be able to train your voice. That's what the exercises are for. That's the entire point! They teach you how to consciously use the muscles you use to change your voice and they strengthen those muscles so that they'll be eventually be able to stand up to constant use.

The tips i have for vocal training! first and foremost i always always always recommend people to read this guide; https://www.reddit.com/r/transvoice/comments/d3clhe/ls_voice_training_guide_level_1_for_mtf/ The first step to making your voice something you like is to understand what it's made of. There are some great exercises there to help you gain better control of the different components of your voice and from that you can start to build a voice that's yours.

aside from that i dont have any actual tips to give lol aside from explaining how i trained my voice; first by reading the guide i linked front to back multiple times to memorize it's content, then trying each of the exercises included once to get a feel for what those exercises were exercising/developing. From there I had somewhat of an idea of how to proceed and started on my actual training:

that was all I did for my vocal training, and how I incentivized myself to actually do the training.

That said; I do have a couple proper tips to give, the first of which is that pitch doesnt mean shit for making your voice sound feminine. people of all genders that're into women will rave about how deep or gravelly women's voices sound "mature" and "sexy" and that's because low pitch does not read as masculine. What you should pay attention to in your voice is your resonance and your tone, which are explained in the guide I sent above. To sum up from what I remember, you do not want your voice to be resonating in your chest (a lot of people will talk about "headvoice" for getting your voice to resonate in your mouth, my resonance point is actually in my throat so you don't need to try that hard at that). For tone, it's helpful to know that a voice that fluctuates in tone more is read as more feminine, and a voice that has a more flat tone is read as more masculine.

aside from what your voice sounds like, your choice of words and how you pronounce them has a much more significant impact on how a voice is read than most people would think. a voice that speaks bluntly and emphasizes hard sounds and stops in words is read as more masculine, and a voice that uses indirect wording and sort of 'flows' words together (it's been described to me as trying to sound how cursive looks) by softening and sometimes dropping entirely hard sounds like 'g's or 't's from words will be read as more feminine.

finally; START SLOW. WORK IN SMALL INCREMENTS. it is extremely easy to overwork or pull your vocal muscles and permanently damage your voice. if you ever feel fatigue or pain in your neck/throat while vocal training, the time to stop has already passed, and you need to give your body a couple days to recover. I don't like to share my old twitch channel, but I want to for this post as I feel they're a good way to help me explain. So, as an example of where to start, here's one of my first clips from when I started streaming;

The only efforts I was putting into my voice at this time was one, doing a "customer service voice" that one might do when working a customer service position or otherwise pretending to like someone you're talking to by speaking in an overly friendly tone and lifting your voice a little. And two, I was lifting the resonance point of my voice so it didn't rumble in my chest and instead felt closer to my neck.

That was from Sept.1, and the first clip I was able to find where I feel my voice started sounding more feminine was from Dec.8, so just a little over three months later;

I'm not putting these here as a way to say "it should take you about three months to get to the point you can use a feminine voice," my intent is actually the opposite. because, again, I was speaking for five hours a day every day to gradually work myself up to this point and that's very much not something that most people have the time and space available to do.

The last thing I have to say, I think, is that when people have asked before what exercises I did to train my voice, the answer I've given is "Screaming". and, uh. I don't think that that alone gives a good idea of what I mean, so here. have three examples of Screaming.

looking for those I've realized that I didnt start doing the screaming noises really til after I'd settled into a half-decent feminine voice but I do stand by that that and making strange noises was extremely beneficial in my learning to better control my voice and really settle into a voice that I enjoy and am comfortable in.

2024 grammys what to know before masterpost

ok good morning happy grammy day!

so as we all know today is the grammys here is what we know so far:

taylor WILL be attending multiple sources have confirmed this and the seated chart was shown, she will be sitting next to lana and jack

taylor will NOT be preforming she is saving her energy and time for eras in tokyo

travis will most likely not be attending (i dont follow him as closely i assume he is prepping for the super bowl but he said on his podcast he wishes he could go to the grammys but he cant)

taylor currently has 12 grammys, if she wins at least one she will have 13 grammys (im so good at math)

taylor is nominated 6 times: album of the year (midnights), song of the year (anti-hero), record of the year (anti-hero), pop vocal album (midnights),pop duo/group performance(karma feat ice spice) and pop solo performance(anti-hero).

jack is also nominated again for producer of the year! (if he wins again he will be the second artist to ever win this award 3 years in a row!)

I will add a few things as someone who watches almost all of their content. For one, the thing that imo makes them entertaining is that they don’t put on a facade or pr face that they’re not actually spoilt rich kids. Probably because their viewership frankly isn’t great but also bc James works an office job and Clem always knew he wasn’t making it to F1. It kind of reminds me of all the conversations I grew up hearing in my rich hometown full of nepos. I think it’s interesting they’re willing to publicly broadcast it the way the people ik would keep it “private”, but that’s on them (and the fact they are normally pregaming when they record).

I also wholeheartedly agree that they can make crappy comments at times (the one in the Lissie episode about hot drivers and James did immediately throw out his takes to try and salvage it bc he realized it was inappropriate) and that it’s not really appropriate to comment publicly on your friend’s relationships the way they have. However, I will say a lot of it is taken out of context so it sounds worse than it was. Almost reminds me Lando and how his words written out don’t come across the way they would in the middle of a recorder interview. We’re talking about one or two offhand comments (normally under their breath or to each other) in multi hour streams and they never once name her specifically. So much so that 95% of their listeners didn’t put things together for a long time (6 months or more) bc the comments could’ve been about anyone (they don’t always say Marcus specifically either) and are normally very vague. It’s only when you start grouping them that they start to actually look sort of disrespectful or you can realize they were likely discussing Marcus and Lissies relationship

I appreciate the perspective from someone who actually watches the streams, because I don’t. I’ve only seen a couple of clips of them and honestly they didn’t come off as anything other than kind of icky schoolboys. And that’s not me roasting rich kids, I love an on-brand rich boy as much as the next one but those guys just seemed distinctly, idk, not charming enough to get away with that attitude. The vibes were off. But again, I’m not a a regular viewer of their content.

At the end of the day I don’t live a public life so I don’t know how difficult it is to just keep the business of your friends to yourself but if those were my friends, whether or not my girlfriend was awful or otherwise, that wouldn’t fly with me. A stream is not the lads group chat, and if I’m in a relationship with someone you should be respectful of my position and theirs. Again, maybe it’s an out of context slip and fair enough but for me that’s not on. Considering you are all in the public eye to an extent I would just think they should know better. It’s one thing to talk about unnamed “cowgirl” but when you know your friend is a public relationship with someone also in the industry…is that hard to leave it out? As I said, if they slipped, they slipped, but it’s interesting to slip whole also managing to be vague when you’re “in the moment”. It’s just if those were my friends or my boyfriend’s friends, the side eye would be bombastic.
