this is in a hypothetical scenario of what if Shen survived the ending in kfp2. its also semi inspired off of this fic I’m reading: “The Future Was Yesterday” on ao3 by dropout_ninja (as in the idea of Shen surviving first came to me when I read that fic)

I love how mqf's oficial description is something like: a good heart who wants to help others but then you read the novel and his reaction to lqg trapping ten infected men who are crying in panic is "great now I can start to work in my experiments with decomposed people to find a cure" and gets out a lot of needles, which makes the man cry even harder.

Even if we only get bits of the other Cang Qiong sect leader's we can reach the conclusion that no one there is normal, sqq is just biased.

Luo Binghe is waiting at the base of the mountain for the entry exam to start when he meets and befriends a rich noble boy who's also planning to enter.

His new friend A-Yuan insists that Binghe eat with him and stay with him at the inn and the boy's servants just kind of nod and go "of course young master."

And like, Luo Binghe might be biased, but A-Yuan is like... Really Pretty? He didn't know boys could be that pretty...

They even walk up the mountain together and settle in to dig their holes side by side.

Meanwhile Shen Qingqiu is pretending to pointedly ignore the other Peak Lords at the selection while instead eavesdropping so hard because apparently Liu Qingge's youngest brother is an applicant this year, but the brute isn't planning on picking him because "A-Yuan doesn't like fighting" he says, strangely fond. Shen Qingqiu was not aware Liu Qingge was capable of being fond of anything.

When Liu Qingge singles out Luo Binghe Shen Qingqiu jumps on it- and then the boy sitting nearly shoulder to shoulder with the urchin looks up and my, isn't the family resemblance remarkable? The boy even has a beauty mark, though his is on his chin.

"That one too," he tells Ming Fan. He can feel Liu Qingge's eyes boring into his back as he approaches the two boys. He still gets the urge to dump his tea on Luo Binghe, but before he can Liu Yuan hugs the other boy and tells him "my mama is dead too." And that mollifies him. The boys are sent away dry.

Liu Qingge is furious and suspicious of course- that was the whole point. And Shen Qingqiu decides he'll just let the boy sink or swim on his own. No doubt the brute will be butting in to make sure his precious baby brother isn't mistreated.

Liu Yuan swims of course- that boy loves learning- and drags Binghe along in his protective wake. And maybe after his thirty-something stop in to check on A-Yuan Liu Qingge and Shen Qingqiu start like, maybe respecting each other a little bit more. They definitely don't like each other. No. Never.

I keep brainrotting on the idea of Shen Jiu and Shen Yuan being twins and Shen Yuan’s physical body dying as a child when they were at the Qiu estate, but Shen Jiu, in distress, did something that locked Shen Yuan’s soul to his own body. And Shen Yuan has been body sharing with his brother in the background without control for decades until the qi deviation flipped them.

finally rereading the shen jiu and yue qi extra and fucking choking on tears mere paragraphs in, the howling and hissing and foul language from shen jiu the desperation from such a young age the ready violence from all the children but especially shen jiu because he’s already learned the lesson that it’s kill or be killed too many time, and then qi-ge placating shen jiu, saving him from himself for the who even knows how many time, the aching fondness for the other boy - not for who he thinks he is, not for some imagined sweet kid, but for the violent and hissing street rat. yue qi smiles at the thought that if left to his own devices shen jiu would claw another kid’s eyes out, like. he really loves him. and from the way shen jiu lets himself be dragged away i think it’s clear he loves him too. they’re just. so young. so fucking young.

Realising that Shen Jiu and Liu Qingge's personalities are what people would usually assume for the other person's birth status (eg. Streetrat and Noble Born)

Like Liu Qingge is implied to be born to a noble background yet is the PeakLord at a peak where fighting is the common language, and Shen Jiu (A slave from the streets) is the PeakLord of the peak of NOBLE SCHOLARLY ARTS.

Liu Qingge is blunt, doesn't think to try and hide his intentions, and has little to no interest in politics, while Shen Jiu is calculating and scheming, always ready for any conspiracy against him or others.

Imagining Shen Jiu being born into a noble family and immediately knowing he would be like a fish to water. Liu Qingge however... 🤔 Would he be able to rise above Shen Jiu's childhood?
