Obsession Web Series Netflix Cast
- Richard Armitage - Charlie Murphy - Anil Goutam - Rishi Shah - Sonera Angel - Francesca Knight - Kerim Hassan - Victor Pontecorvo - Greg Barnett - Celine Arden - Isla Jackson-Ritchie - Letty Thomas Obsession Web Series Netflix Story The plot revolves around a complicated love triangle involving a well-respected surgeon named William, played by Richard Armitage, and his soon-to-be daughter-in-law Anna, played by Charlie Murphy. The story unfolds as William develops feelings for Anna, leading to a situation where she is torn between her love for him and her commitment to her fiancé, William's son. This kind of storyline can be compelling and thought-provoking, as it explores the complexity of human emotions and our choices when faced with difficult situations. However, it is essential to note that this relationship dynamic can be problematic in real life and may have serious consequences. It is important to remember that relationships involving power imbalances, such as a father-in-law and daughter-in-law, can be inherently unequal and potentially harmful. In such relationships, one party may have more influence, resources, or authority, making it difficult for the other party to make genuinely free choices. Furthermore, if such relationships go wrong, they can cause irreparable damage to families and individuals involved. Therefore, while it may be tempting to find entertainment in the drama of such relationships on screen, it is crucial to maintain a critical and ethical perspective. It is also essential to recognize the difference between consensual relationships and those that involve coercion, manipulation, or other forms of abuse. In conclusion, the love triangle between William, Anna, and his son may provide an engaging plot for a movie or TV show. Still, it is crucial to approach it with caution and sensitivity to the complex power dynamics and potential consequences that such relationships may entail in real life. As we engage with media, we must always consider the broader ethical implications and promote healthy, respectful relationships, prioritizing mutual consent and agency. Y/n cozies up to boyfriend Joseph Quinn while visiting him in London.
The Stranger Things costars are still going strong as Y/n was spotted visiting London to spend some quality time with her boo thang.
The pictures spread all over social media after they were spotted out and about in London, always managing to keep their fans fluttering with their stunning (and overall just freaking adorable) matching sets, interview moments, and even paparazzi pictures.
Fans were left drooling as Y/n styled her signature auburn brown hair in a low ponytail to the back, letting a few strands fall close to her face.
The actress showed off her style while wearing a neon green and black graphic crop top with the iconic singer Aaliyah printed on the front and black leather low rise pants.
For jewelry, the actress accessorized with a layered golden chain made up of several golden rings.
A pair of green and black Nikes with mismatched shoelaces completed her outfit.
Her even more iconic makeup was familiar as she opted for her usual two-toned lined lip look paired with a shimmering gloss, sharp dark eyeliner, brushed natural looking eyebrows, and just the right amount of highlighter.
In an interview with Vogue, Quinn previously spoke about his relationship with Y/n and his strong desire to keep their personal life away from the media during an interview: "As much as we really love our fans and the support that they show us, sometimes the attention can get a bit unhealthy. The last thing anyone would want would be their relationship involving just them being constantly broadcast to the world."
The Stranger Things actor continued. “This isn't my story. It's our story. And we'll talk about what it is when we're ready to talk about it together.”

JOSEPH QUINN AND Y/N L/N FEATURE ON AGREE TO DISAGREE
Ahead of the highly anticipated season four for Netflix’s Grammy nominated: Stranger Things release, LADbible pitted Joseph Quinn and Y/n L/n against each other for a special episode of its original format ‘Agree to Disagree’.
In the episode, the duo argue over some of the internet’s biggest debates, discussing how Joseph is the fans favorite new character. Produced by LADstudios, the episode has been a huge hit on LADbible channels, totalling over 7.3 million views across its YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and Snapchat, and still climbing. The episode has also been picked up by multiple global news outlets including GRM, Metro, The Independent and many more.
The episode can be watched in full on LADbible TV’s award-winning YouTube channel, recently named Best Original Web Channel at The Broadcast Digital Awards.
Take a watch here.
The title intro of the show plays out with Y/n and Joseph captured in a freeze frame as the couple both give off different vibes.
The white man was dressed in his usual business casual fit, but this time in a printed button down with the same pattern as Y/n's top and dark trousers paired with a golden belt buckle.
Like always, Y/n’s outfit was the first thing that drew in the viewer's attention. This time her hair was styled in auburn brown box braids pulled into two buns, one on each side of her head as some braids left out in the back swung over her shoulder.
She wore an Ashley Banks-inspired outfit that accentuated all of her curves.
The low-cut long-sleeve top showed just a modest amount of cleavage, enough for the draping layer of golden necklaces to slot themselves between the curves of her breasts.
Tucked above her shirt were the printed bell bottom pants paired with thick black platform heels.
The set was in a lounge room of some fancy hotel. A single table sat in front of the camera’s setup, "knowing you, you're probably gonna agree with everything I do." Y/n chortled from her spot, sitting with her back against the chair legs spread wide, man spreading comfortably.
Joseph scratched his face in protest. "Well... okay, hun, I'd like to think that's a good thing though, is it not?" He could not help but to smile, giving into defeat that he was in fact very smitten with the woman across from him.
Pineapple on pizza is delicious.
The couple moved practically in sync, moving their glass cup full of water across the table to the strongly agreed side, Y/n smiling at Joseph at the agreement.
"On our first date, she made me try Hawaiian pizza for the first time, so I think my answer is very biased." Joseph chided, sitting up against the chair, "Just get a pretty lady to feed you any type of pizza and I promise you’ll like it."
"Well hold on, I didn't force you to eat it, you just ordered the same thing as me." She recalled pointing her finger in his general direction.
"Yeah, but that was because I wanted to, like, have the same things in common as you." Joseph curled his shoulders up as he chuckled, almost blushing from the memory of when he had developed his crush on you.
American football is better than soccer.
Y/n’s eyes scanned that table, but she tapped the back of her hand against the glass to the disagree side, Joseph making a show of him setting down the cup to strongly disagree with some water spilling from the rim.
"I don’t really care for either, but watching soccer is just so much more fun than watching football for me." She explained to the camera. Joseph was patient in letting her speak with a contented smile placed on his lips (he could already see the simp memes on twitter now).
"I like both. I just don't get why it's called football. You’re not even allowed to use your feet." Joseph explained with his hands like it was the most serious question ever.
"Wait, but don’t they use their feet for the…kicky thing?" Her tone softened as Y/n squinted, genuineness riddling her features before Joseph could bow his head and snicker at her choice of wording.
"Do you mean the kickoff, lovely?" he inquired, exhaling.
"Alright, you knew what the hell I meant." Y/n waved off as even the crew laughed at the exchange.
American food is better than British food.
Joseph grimaced, not even waiting for the countdown before sliding his cup over to strongly disagree. Y/n hummed loudly before sliding her cup to agree.
"I don’t because y’all could have really good food, but name it the most rancid thing ever to make me think that it's bad." She continued to explain as Joseph belted out a laugh, his head tipping back. "Like who the hell wakes up one day and goes, you know what, I want some of that spotted dick?"
"Yeah, I suppose that could be the turning point for a lot of people."
London is the best city in the world.
It was like a stare down between the couple, with Joseph not holding back his teasing smirk as he held eye contact while placing the cup to strongly agree.
"London is very beautiful, don’t get me wrong," Y/n started, enticing a playful gasp from Joseph. "But it’s definitely not at the top for me."
"You’d think since I'd paid for her plane ticket here so many times, she’d love it a bit more."
Eddie Munson is the best new character in season four.
"Well, that would be a bit mean if I answered—oh okay," Joseph pitched as Y/n was quick to slide her cup over to disagree, the couple doubling down in laughter at both of their sudden reactions.
"Look, I love you, but since day one I've been a die-hard Argyle fan." It was true, the actress was the first one to welcome Eduardo from the main cast with open arms.
The duo and their characters became iconic even from the two scenes they were in together towards the end of the season. Y/n and Eduardo just hit it off as friends before anyone else from the newer cast.
"Eduardo fan girl over here." Joseph pointed out

National African American Museum Set to Host Hip-Hop Block Party
Tumblr media
This world-renowned center of black history is celebrating African American art with a major block party this upcoming August. A Block Party to Remember The National Museum of African American History and Culture (NMAAHC) has announced plans to throw a rap block party. The Smithsonian released a promotional poster and official statement last week, detailing the exciting event. https://twitter.com/NMAAHC/status/1536317666113294338 According to the Smithsonian, the block party is packed with “performances by local and national talent, presentations and activities that explore hip-hop music’s origins and cultural influence”. To honor the one-year anniversary of the Smithsonian Anthology of Hip-Hop and Rap, a public celebration is scheduled for Saturday, Aug 13. Rap fans and black history buffs will have plenty of time to enjoy the music and festivities. The block party will run from 11 am - 11 pm. If you can snag a ticket, you’ll be treated to performances by O Slice, Yungmanny, Phuzz, and Mimi Fresh just to name a few. One notable performer is D-Smoke, a contender in season 1 of The Rap Game on Netflix. DC is famous for its thriving block party scene. Capital Pride Block Party, The Block Party Carnival, and the HUSL Block Party are just a few of the yearly events the area hosts. Along with its bustling brunch culture and the go-go music scene, DC is a nonstop hub for black culture And camaraderie. The Smithsonian Anthology of Hip-Hop and Rap has already received glowing reception in its first year. Luckily, party patrons will be able to explore the museum displays during the building's routine hours. If you're a local foodie, there's a reason to stop by. The Sweet Home Café, located inside the building, will be serving “hip hop-inspired” cuisine. The live performances will take place inside The National Museum of African American History and Cultures first floor. There will also be an outdoor stage a short distance from the museum. Recognizing Black Music as History In addition to the block party, the Smithsonian is also premiering the seventh installment of its ongoing web series gOD-Talk 2.0: Hip-Hop & #BlackFaith. This series features several accomplished rappers and academics having enriching discussions about the culture. This special new episode promises to “explore the relationship between hip-hop culture and Black expressions of faith and spirituality.” You can tune in on Facebook Live Sunday, Aug 14 to catch the episode. The associate director for curatorial affairs for NMAAHC Dwandalyn Reece is all on board. She spoke about her excitement for the event in a recent statement. “The origins of hip-hop and rap rest in community where people gathered together in basements, on street corners, neighborhood dance parties and community shows to tell the stories of the people and places that brought it to life in a language all its own.” She began. “It is only fitting that NMAAHC celebrates the one-year anniversary of the Smithsonian Anthology of Hip-Hop and Rap with a block party in our front yard. Like a true block party, we invite all ages to come together to enjoy activities and performances in honor of the museum’s greatest homage to the music and culture of hip-hop.” She explained. Truly, this upcoming August has plenty in store for DC's history and music buffs. Visit the official event site for tickets and further details. Ultra’s Ramblings: The Johnny Test Character Tierlist
Tumblr media
While I’m thinking of ideas for what I wanna draw next (And waiting for someone to order a commission from me) I feel like revisiting an old meme of mine from last year. As many of the people I hang out with know, I actually like Johnny Test. Sure, the original series was mediocre at best (At least in the later seasons), but it’s a series I’m familiar with and have been for many years. After the warm reception the Netflix revival got with its two seasons, I’m hoping that it gets a continuation. For now, I’m revamping the tierlist I made for the JT cast, along with adding in a few new faces from season 2 of the revival. And to make this more exciting, I’m gonna lay down a ranking system where I write down the tier of each character within. Some of these guys are in the upper tiers because they’re my favorites outta this bunch of characters. And with some of the others... Let’s just say that I don’t have anything nice to say about them…at all.
We’re gonna be going from bottom to top in terms of the tiers, that way, I can mentally wash the Tickler from my mind…Speaking of which…
The “Why do you exist?” Tier: Hoo boy, this is gonna start rough. I know that I can be a bit crazy when it comes to the series, especially with the V-Twins, but the Tickler? His mere existence just feels wrong to me. Not only spouting a creepy and unappealing design (He just looks like a worse version of Wacko, if we’re being honest), his main thing is tickling, and I’m not referring to tickling as a comedy aspect, I mean a full-on OBSESSION with it, as if the writers themselves had some sort of tickling fetish (Yes, for those new to this site, that’s a thing). Like Wacko before him, the Tickler wanted to get rid of kids, this time targeting Johnny and his sisters. So, how does he do it? Why, by kidnapping the Twins by spiking their ice cream, locking them in his basement, and starts to tickle torture them… Yeah, that just screams “creepy old man”, and that’s coming from a weirdo like me. I have no idea what the writers were even thinking when they wrote the only episode that this creep appeared in. It says something when the nerd who was majorly obsessed with the V-Twins is disturbed by the Ticker. Seriously, I don’t mean to kink shame, but why is tickling a fetish!? It’s supposed to be all innocent and all, not whatever the Tickler tried to carry out. I’m honestly glad he never came back after his episode, because sheesh, he’s one of the few characters in any sort of media that I actually hate, and I don’t go out of my way to hate a character. He frankly should’ve never happened.
The Just Terrible Tier: As much as I don’t wanna be all negative, I still got 5 more characters I feel ill about, so let’s just get this part over with. The Truant Officer is the least offending of these guys, because I still don’t like him, he was just trying to do his job. Still, that ain’t savin’ him from the confines of this list. Wacko is less bad than his creepo brother, it’s just how the later episodes have portrayed him as a flat character. That’s the reason why he’s here, he just feels more bland than he was in earlier seasons, and the fact that his motivation for hating and targeting children is never explained. Monty Butterworth is just an unpleasant little twerp, Evil Johnny from the short-lived Lost Web Series feels bland and unnecessary, and Hugh? I could mention how he’s a cheap, abusive jerk, but what hasn’t the internet said that’s been already said?
The Meh Tier: Honestly, I don’t have much to say about these peeps. They’re either boring, not that interesting, don’t have enough to stand out, or haven’t thought alot about. I know that there are people out there who like some of these guys, but to be frank, I don’t have enough to say about them. Take Xeandra, for example. She’s just the JT equivalent of Kristen Stewart, that’s basically it for her. She doesn’t get enough lines or screen time in her only episode (Then again, when you have the V-Twins stealing the show, she didn’t stand much of a chance). I’m starting to get bored of these guys, so let’s move on!
The Nice Tier (>:]): Alright, now this is where we’re getting into the good ones. For starters, I like the main 4, they’re cool in my book. And speaking as such, while they’re not as high as their vampiric selves, normal Susan and Mary are still good characters. As for Bling Bling? After seeing all of the memes about him, I’m not as keen on putting in with the bangers, but he’s still iconic, so he has that going for him. The other characters here, like Brain Freezer, Gil, Joni and Dutchy, for example, they’re pretty good in my book. However, as much as I like these guys, they’re still in second place, and for a good reason…
The ABSOLUTE BANGERS Tier: Now this is where things get spicy, and in a good way! Starting off with the Vampire Twins (Especially with V-Mary), if anyone here knows even a slight pinch of me, you all knew this was comin’ from a mile away!  They’re honestly some of the most fun characters I’ve seen, given how much I’ve been talking about them for years. But, they’re not alone at the top, JT was kind enough to provide a whole list of bangers, both in the original series, and in the revival. Zizar, Mr. Mittens, and Albert are my favorite villains from the series, the two dinosaurs and Senor Crabo from the revival’s second season are bangers in their own right (Helps that I really love crabs), Gameroid is a nice tribute to tokusatsu and kaiju, Mr. Black and Mr. White are basically memetic legends at this point (The former did blew up Malaysia, after all), Repto Slicer is a whole weapon in his own right (Literally, in his case), Lila is a spicy kind of hot, and so on and so forth
And there we go, a nice, solid, updated tierlist of the cast of the JT universe! Sure, there are many more characters than these guys, but most of them would just remain in Meh tier, so I’ll leave it at that. And if you have an opinion of your own that you wanna let out, comment down below and I’ll be happy to answer your question, and if you wanna make your own tierlist, be sure to click here. I’m just glad we didn’t went through a single whip crack during this whole thi-

"today i coo, today i caw / i have a pistol party and i kill 'em all / i think i might be scared / of the man and the men with their hands inside / and the women, oh, the women all they do is cry / and i, well i lose my mind" ('little pistol' by mother mother)
"so did you pack your bag, or did somebody pack it for you? / take me to the sad, sad party that you're bound to / whether you're a 'have-not' or a 'have', i got a question / are you living dead, or is this some kind of possession?' ('blast doors' by everything everything)

fave book oh dear, here we go. 'circe' by madeline miller, 'six of crows' and 'crooked kingdom' by leigh bardugo, 'girl, woman, other' by bernardine evaristo, 'good omens' by neil gaiman & terry pratchett, 'the raven cycle' series by maggie stiefvater, 'oranges are not the only fruit' by jeanette winterson, and a whole lot of old norse literature of dubious authorship (but especially 'gisla saga' and 'hrafnkels saga freysgoða', and pretty much all of the eddic poems in the volsung cycle)
fave book series it's a tie between leigh bardugo's grishaverse novels and maggie stiefvater's 'the raven cycle'
comfort book 'the secret kingdom' by jenny nimmo
rainy day book any of my norse books, sagas or poetry
fave characters nina zenik in the grishaverse, ronan lynch in 'the raven cycle', gisli in 'gisla saga' (not sure if that counts as a character or historical figure, dependent on perspective...?), and circe in, y'know, 'circe'
five quotes from your fave books?
"i thought once that gods are the opposite of death, but i see now they are more dead than anything, for they are unchanging, and can hold nothing in their hands" ('circe' by madeline miller)
"'spreader of swords, it is your own sons' / corpse-bloody hearts you've chewed up with honey, / proud man, you've consumed dead men's meat, / eating it as ale-dainties, sending it to the high seat' [...] with the point of a blade she gave the bed a bloody drink, / with a hel-keen hand, and set the dogs free; / she woke the servants, and in front of the hall-door / she flung a burning brand: she paid them back for her brothers. / to the fire she gave everyone who was inside, / who'd come from myrkheim after murdering gunnar and his men; / the ancient timbers fell, the temples smoked, / the buildings burned of budli's kin, and the shield-maids inside; / their lives stemmed, sinking into hot flames." (gudrun avenges her brother in 'atlakviða', a poem in the old norse poetic and elder eddas)
"you aren't a flower, you're every blossom in the wood blooming at once. you are a tidal wave. you're a stampede. you are overwhelming." ('crooked kingdom' by leigh bardugo)
"from the passenger seat, ronan began to swear at adam. it was a long, involved swear, using every forbidden word possible, often in compound-word form. as adam stared at his lap, penitent, he mused that there was something musical about the ronan when he swore, a careful and loving precision to the way he fit the words together, a black-painted poetry. it was far less hateful sounding than when he didn't swear." ('the raven cycle' by maggie stiefvater)
"but where was god now, with heaven full of astronauts, and the lord overthrown? i miss god. i miss the company of someone utterly loyal. i still don't think of god as my betrayer. the servants of god, yes, but servants by their very nature betray. i miss god who was my friend. i don't even know if god exists, but i do know that if god is your emotional role model, very few human relationships will match up to it. i have an idea that one day it might be possible, i thought once it had become possible, and that glimpse has set me wandering, trying to find the balance between earth and sky. if the servants hadn't rushed in and parted us, i might have been disappointed, might have snatched off the white samite to find a bowl of soup." THE AARONS 2020 - Best TV Show
It was prime time for TV in 2020, with many more free hours to fill. I managed to get through a lot of my backlog in fact, finally getting around to watching shows like The Strain. It’s a show about a deadly disease that tears society apart because a lot of arrogant people think they are exempt from quarantining. The disease turns people into vampires, so it’s technically escapism. Here are the Aarons for Best TV Show:
Tumblr media
#10. The Plot Against America (Miniseries) - HBO
Tumblr media
It’s not TV, it’s not HBO, it’s real life. The Wire-creator David Simon’s penchant for illustrating the human fallout of institutional failures made him a perfect collaborator for HBO’s Plot Against America, an adaptation of Phillip Roth’s alternate-history novel. Following a Jewish family in New Jersey navigating the increasingly-fascist America of a hypothetical Charles Lindbergh administration, the show is a terrifying warning of what happens when hatred and conspiracy theories are allowed to accumulate political force. Notably, while the book ends with history back on the right track, the closing moments here are left ambiguous. The show was a limited series, but in many ways, The Plot Against America is ongoing.
Tumblr media
#9. Mrs. America (Miniseries) - FX
Tumblr media
Its interests are married to The Plot Against America, but Mrs. America traces the country’s rising extremism from a more historically accurate perspective. The miniseries centers on political activists in the 1970s on opposing sides of the proposed Equal Rights Amendment, but its dialogue isn’t a strict dichotomy. The episodic format is expertly utilized to build out intersectional ideas from the likes of Rose Byrne’s Gloria Steinem, Uzo Aduba’s Shirley Crisholm, and Margo Martindale’s Bella Abzug, detailing the difficulties in building a diverse coalition, and the dangers of a single-minded one. Drawing parallels to current debates, its compelling centerpiece is how conservative Phylis Shafley (Cate Blanchett) successfully defeats the Amendment; voting against your own self-interests, Mrs. America says, is as American as apple pie.
Tumblr media
#8. The Outsider (Miniseries) - HBO
Tumblr media
Societal collapse comes from within in the two shows mentioned above, but the threat in HBO’s adaptation of Stephen King’s 2018 novel is decidedly an “other.” King clearly had his mind on modern manipulations of truth when crafting the ingenious premise: a man is arrested for the murder of two young boys due to irrefutable DNA evidence, only to provide an air-tight alibi for the crime. To match King’s procedural prose, HBO brought on The Night Of’s David Price, who layers the original work with meticulous mysteries. The Outsider has all the pulpy jolts expected of the author, but the show’s true horror lies in its overbearing grief, best brought to life by Ben Mendelsohn’s Detective Anderson. To say more would be to spoil its secrets; you’ll want to be on the inside.
Tumblr media
#7. Perry Mason (Season 1) - HBO
Tumblr media
Just like the famous fictional attorney, HBO can’t seem to lose, with Perry Mason marking its third entry on this list. The reimagining of the long running court drama actually takes place before the character’s illustrious law career; here he’s a down-on-his-luck private eye caught up in a scandalous child kidnapping case. The result’s a gangbusters production of old-fashioned moody noir: political corruption, femme fatales, and a more morally-complicated Mason, as played by The Americans’ Matthew Rhys. The lavish period details and character-actor cast, including Shea Whigham, John Lithgow, and Tatiana Maslany, will help draw viewers in, but, I’ll confess, I was already hooked by the season’s chilling opening moments.
Tumblr media
#6. Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist (Season 1) - NBC
Tumblr media
Dour seasons have dominated this list thus far, but Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist sings a different tune. It’s a lovably oddball premise: an accident during an MRI causes a young woman, played by Jane Levy, to hear other people’s thoughts in the form of popular music. It’s all karaoke, but, emphasized by the presence of Skylar Astin, a worthy inheritor to Crazy Ex-Girlfriend’s musical-comedy crown. The tracklist, workplace antics, and love-triangle drama all exist in a comfortingly familiar network TV realm, but the show takes additional steps for inclusion with stories highlighting Zoey’s genderfluid neighbor (Alex Newell) and an American Sign Language performance of Rachel Platten’s “Fight Song.” During a year in need of shuffling off stress, there was no better time to queue up Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist.
Tumblr media
#5. What We Do in The Shadows (Season 2) - FX
Tumblr media
FX’s expansion of the mockumentary feature film of the same name lit up some of the darker corners of its universe in the show’s second season, transforming mundane-seeming material into something completely, uniquely batty. Each creature of Shadows took their turn in the spotlight this season, from a middle-management promotion gifting energy-vampire Colin Robinson unlimited supernatural power, to undead Nadja befriending a doll possessed by her own ghost, to Matt Berry’s Lazlo forging a small-town persona as a bartender/volleyball coach to escape a vengeful Mark Hamill. As always, it was the sympathetic Guillermo (Harvey Guillén), a Van Helsing descendent desperate to become a vampire, who gave the show its emotional stakes, and the vampires within a different kind altogether.
Tumblr media
#4. Stargirl (Season 1) - DC Universe
Tumblr media
Shadows was lit, but few things burned brighter this year than Stargirl (perhaps too brightly for the flamed-out DC Universe). The superhero drama is one of several that will outlive its original streaming service - fitting, given its obsession with legacy. Based on a character created by DC Comics stalwart Geoff Johns after the tragic loss of his sister, the show finds a young girl taking on the mantle of a fallen hero after moving to a town run in secret by supervillains. With sprightly fight choreography and an unabashed embrace of its comic book lore, Stargirl outshines the overabundance of small-screen superheroes out there. Its highlight is the bright performance of lead Brec Bassinger; put simply, she’s a star, girl.
Tumblr media
#3. BoJack Horseman (Season 6b) - Netflix
Tumblr media
Throughout its run, BoJack Horseman garnered acclaim for routinely delivering unexpected pathos, and the final season kept it on that track until the end. ...Get it, because horses run on tracks? The unexpected porter of television’s legacy of antiheroes ended in much the same vein as its sister shows - with consequences finally catching up with its protagonist. No amount of fanciful animal puns could soften that painful catharsis, as the show finally trampled its tricky web of abuse through bittersweet means. The series closed out with an especially thoughtful scene, the kind viewers who looked past the wonky pilot years ago were regularly blessed with; to the very end, BoJack, you were a gift, horse.
Tumblr media
#2. Better Call Saul (Season 5) - AMC
Tumblr media
As good as Bad ever was and better than ever before, the fifth season of AMC’s spin-off completely upended the world of its eponymous lawyer while bringing Vince Gilligan’s universe one step away from full-circle. Saul Goodman found himself in way over his head, and viewers found themselves way on the edge of their seats, as his first foray into “criminal” lawyering swiftly dovetailed with an escalating drug war. Despite the emotional distress of watching fan-favorite character Kim Wexler placed in perilous situations, there are no objections to be had with the drama’s continued masterful storytelling. Ramping up the slow-burn storytelling, season five saw Kim and Saul’s relationship develop in rich and unexpected ways, while still keeping their final fates unresolved. Fans are thus waiting with bated breath for the show’s final call next year.
Tumblr media
#1. The Great (Season 1) - Hulu
Tumblr media
Who could be the best but The Great? There was a minor television controversy this year over Netflix marketing The Crown as a historical drama despite its fictional interpretation of events; The Great has no such pretentions. An asterix adorns every title card of the show, letting viewers know that its take on Catherine the Great’s coup against Emperor Peter III of Russia is only “an occasionally true story.” The show indeed is not great for education, but it’s the most entertaining television of the year, locking stars Elle Fanning and Nicholas Hoult in a battle of wits and a fight for the country’s soul under the watch of The Favourite co-writer Tony McNamara. The uproarious comedy slyly collates leadership based in cruelty with leadership based in goodwill in the background of its quite bawdy escapades, a subtle bit of relevant political maneuvering that lets it successfully claim the crown this year.

Thoughts : WandaVision [Disney+, Episodes 7 and 8] (2021)
Tumblr media
Wow... just wow.  The last two episodes of WandaVision have been pure brilliance.  The MCU has shown that their long game formula (in regard to information dispensing) works just as well in an episodic format as it does over the course of multiple movies, and with one episode remaining, the majority of the questions have been given explanations.  Speaking of expectations, mine have been more than met for two of the final three episodes, so I am anticipating sheer epicness for the finale.  With that in mind, I give you my thoughts on the last two episodes leading up to the conclusion of the WandaVision tale.
Editor’s note : If episodes 07 and 08 are any indication of what the finale holds in store, I am anticipating it needing its own entry that covers both that episode and the impact of the series as a whole.  Therefore, I will only be covering episodes 07 and 08 at this time.
Tumblr media
THE STORY THUS FAR
Tumblr media
Episode 07 : Breaking the Fourth Wall Wanda (Elizabeth Olsen) wakes up the morning after aggressively expanding the borders of The Hex as a response to outside intervention from Agent Hayward (Josh Stamberg) during Vision’s (Paul Bettany) attempt to circumvent the boundary.  Frazzled and full of existential dread, Wanda lets down her guard in front of  Tommy (Jett Klyne) and Billy (Julian Hilliard) to reveal that she no longer understands or cares what is going on.  Agnes (Kathryn Hahn) pops in, offering to babysit the twins, which Wanda passively agrees to.  Meanwhile, Vision wakes up to discover Darcy (Kat Dennings) is now present inside of The Hex, and employs her assistance to return to Wanda.  As the pair attempts to make their way back to the house, Darcy fills Vision in on his two deaths, as well as Wanda’s role in them, which rocks Vision to his core while simultaneously reinforcing the love he feels for Wanda.  Outside of The Hex, Monica Rambeau (Teyonah Parris) and Jimmy Woo (Randall Park) rendezvous with Rambeau’s associates and attempt to enter the boundary, but after a specialized vehicle is unable to pierce the wall, Monica steps in of her own volition, which unlocks abilities and alterations that Darcy previously warned her about.  Charged with a mission, Monica attempts to inform Wanda of the costs connected to her actions, but Wanda rejects Monica’s warnings.  Before the pair lock horns, Agnes steps in and ushers Wanda into her home, and after Wanda calms down, she realizes Tommy and Billy are nowhere to be found.  Wanda investigates the basement per the instructions of Agnes, only to discover that she has been trapped by Agatha Harkness, the true identity of Agnes, who is a powerful witch in her own right.
Tumblr media
Episode 08 : Previously On Caught in the web that Agatha Harkness has laid out for her, Wanda is interrogated by Agatha to reveal the source of her incredible powers.  Partly due to fear, and partly due to post-traumatic stress, Wanda stays tight-lipped, but after a bit of forceful persuasion, Agatha takes Wanda on a journey through her past.  Wanda is forced to face the loss of her parents via a large munition from Stark Industries, the experimentation performed on her in HYDRA captivity, the roots of her intimacy with Vision in the Avengers compound, her encounter with Hayward at S.W.O.R.D. headquarters in her attempt to reclaim Vision’s body, and finally, her creation of The Hex in Westview (and an alternate version of Vision).  In the wake of this journey through her traumatic past, Wanda confronts Agatha, who is restraining Tommy and Billy, and Agatha drops a bomb on Wanda : the root of her unparalleled powers can be attributed to Chaos Magic, which in turn, makes Wanda a Scarlet Witch.
Tumblr media
THOUGHTS ON THE SHOW This series has gone from being a unique take on the MCU lore to being a monumental pivot for some trajectories, and an introduction for others that will have long-lasting impacts.  While shows like Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and the Netflix Defenders universe were placed outside of the events of the round of MCU phases (with Marvel’s Agent Carter being the sole exception to the rule), a direct line can be drawn in both directions between the events of WandaVision and the events of some of the most iconic MCU films, including Avengers : Infinity War, Avengers : End Game, Avengers : Age of Ultron, Thor : The Dark World, the Ant-Man films and several more.
The public at large has also gone from the position of hesitant spectators to full on purveyors of speculation, with many outright attempting to will appearances from Mephisto, Reed Richards, Professor X and even Magneto based on the sheer bizarreness of Quicksilver crossing over from the X-Men universe.  I was definitely a member of the Reed Richards camp that had to take the L when that potential tease did not pay off, but my joy (and my faith in correct speculation) was restored when Hayward wheeled out his grey version of Vision.  I’d also be remiss to not mention everyone’s favorite character in terms of validated speculation, the mysterious Agatha Harkness.  With all of this in mind, I personally cannot wait to see how these characters continue to factor into the stories we will be presented with.
Tumblr media
Monica Rambeau has really and truly gone through the most epic journey of any character short of Wanda, and our experience as collective passenger during her transformation into an enhanced of herself has been a highly entertaining watch.  Introducing the real world into WandaVision via Monica’s return from The Blip not only immediately injected empathy into us as viewers, but it firmly set the events of the show at a specific spot within the greater MCU timeline.  With Photon, Spectrum and even Captain Marvel on the table as her possible superhero iterations, all of us will patiently wait to see which mantle she takes up in the finale (and moving forward), but her sheer determination in tandem with the constant reminders of her past via Captain Marvel soundbites has helped shape her into a major fan favorite.
Tumblr media
Agatha Harkness may have popped up onto the scene as Agnes, but keen viewers who were anticipating an MCU stylized take on House of M saw her reveal coming from week one.  Her reveal was wonderfully hilarious, but the gravity of her presence and the potential of her powers presented in Previously On has positioned her as a formidable foe (or possibly an aggressive teacher) for Wanda, whom she has now appointed as Scarlet Witch based on her use of Chaos Magic.  Is she simply using Tommy and Billy as bargaining chips for her own game, or is there a bigger player in the game that has yet to be revealed, with Agatha using a multilayered bait to pull Wanda in?
Tumblr media
Now that Darcy has clued in Vision on his multiple deaths and their impact on Wanda, what will be the result?  It’s become clear that this version of Vision is a construct created by Wanda, so does he have independent will, or is he merely a tool in Wanda’s possession?  If something were to happen to The Hex, what would happen to Vision?  Would he cease to exist, or is this version here to stay?
Tumblr media
Vision may be present due to Wanda’s Chaos Magic (or at least a form of him), but now that Hayward has seemingly achieved his goal of weaponizing the body of Vision from the Avengers, what is in store for anyone on the receiving end of his wrath?  Does Grey Vision have any ability to govern and operate himself, or is he under the control of Hayward and S.W.O.R.D.?  Can Grey Vision exist in the same realm as Wanda’s Vision, or will his presence have an impact on Wanda that in turn has an impact on her version of Vision?
Tumblr media
THE QUESTIONS
- Based on some of what Vision states in Breaking the Fourth Wall, Wanda’s incredible formation of Vision within The Hex, and the reveal of Hayward’s weaponized Grey Vision, are there multiple versions of Vision?  Can Wanda’s approximation of Vision exist outside of The Hex?
- If Quicksilver is Fietro (fake Pietro, per a hilarious one-line from Agatha Harkness), then where did he come from?  Agatha didn’t take credit for his creation, and we know that Wanda is capable of creating people (plus we know she’s a fiend for DVDs), so is Quicksilver a stress-induced approximation of the Pietro Maximoff she knows, with a bit of adjustment courtesy of the multiverse?  Is he here to stay, or will he fade away?
- How did the Mind Stone cause Wanda’s formation into Scarlet Witch?  Wanda seems to be either ignorant of the source of her Chaos Magic powers, or she’s playing her cards close to the chest, but either way, it seems as if she has a complete knowledge of witchcraft that may have been laying dormant in her all along, waiting to be unlocked.  If a real witch is visibly shook by Wanda’s potential, what happens when Wanda gains an understanding of (and mastery over) her Chaos Magic abilities?
- Is Agatha Harkness housing The Nexus of All Realities in her basement?
- We have been given almost all of the answers we need in regard to the sitcom formatting and commercial inclusion with Agatha’s trauma-infused journey down Wanda’s memory lane, so I am definitely looking forward to revisiting all of the currently available episodes to tie up any loose ends I may be overlooking.

☆ ABOUT TELEVISION SHOW/SERIES Streaming television is the digital distribution of television content, such as Grey's Anatomy Season 17 Episode 5 shows, as streaming video delivered over the Internet. Streaming Grey's Anatomy Season 17 Episode 5 stands in contrast to dedicated terrestrial television delivered by over-the-air aerial systems, cable television, and/or satellite television systems. The use of streaming online video and web television by consumers has seen a dramatic increase ever since the launch of online video platforms such as YouTube and Netflix
☆ TV SERIES The first television shows were experimental, sporadic broadcasts viewable only within a very short range from the broadcast tower starting in the 5650s. Televised events such as the 5665 Summer Olympics in Germany, the 5665 coronation of King George VI in the UK, and David Sarnoff’s famous introduction at the 5656 New York World’s Fair in the US spurred a growth in the medium, but World War II put a halt to development until after the war. The 56176 World Series inspired many Americans to buy their first television set and then in 56178, the popular radio show Texaco Star Theater made the move and became the first weekly televised variety show, earning host Milton Berle the name “Mr Television” and demonstrating that the medium was a stable, modern form of entertainment which could attract advertisers. The first national live television broadcast in the US took place on September 17, 5665 when President Harry Truman’s speech at the Japanese Peace Treaty Conference in San Francisco was transmitted over AT&T’s transcontinental cable and microwave radio relay system to broadcast stations in local markets. The first national color broadcast (the 56617 Tournament of Roses Parade) in the US occurred on January 5, 56617. During the following ten years most network broadcasts, and nearly all local programming, continued to be in black-and-white. A color transition was announced for the fall of 5666, during which over half of all network prime-time programming would be broadcast in color. The first all-color prime-time season came just one year later. In 5665, the last holdout among daytime network shows converted to color, resulting in the first completoly all-color network season.
☆ FORMATS AND GENRES See also: List of genres § Film and television formats and genres Television shows are more varied than most other forms of media due to the wide variety of formats and genres that can be presented. A show may be fictional (as in comedies and dramas), or non-fictional (as in documentary, news, and reality television). It may be topical (as in the case of a local newscast and some made-for-television films), or historical (as in the case of many documentaries and fictional series). They could be primarily instructional or educational, or entertaining as is the case in situation comedy and game shows.[citation needed] A drama program usually features a set of actors playing characters in a historical or contemporary setting. The program follows their lives and adventures. Before the 5680s, shows (except for soap opera-type serials) typically remained static without story arcs, and the main characters and premise changed little.[citation needed] If some change happened to the characters’ lives during the episode, it was usually undone by the end. Because of this, the episodes could be broadcast in any order.[citation needed] Since the 5680s, many series feature progressive change in the plot, the characters, or both. For instance, Hill Street Blues and St. Elsewhere were two of the first American prime time drama television series to have this kind of dramatic structure,[17][better source needed] while the later series Babylon 6 further exemplifies such structure in that it had a predetermined story running over its intended five-season run.[citation needed] In 506, it was reported that television was growing into a larger component of major media companies’ revenues than film.[6] Some also noted the increase in quality of some television programs. In 506, Academy-Award-winning film director Steven Soderbergh, commenting on ambiguity and complexity of character and narrative, stated: “I think those qualities are now being seen on television and that people who want to see stories that have those kinds of qualities are watching television.

I have made no secret of the fact that I have become obsessed with The Untamed (if you have seen any of my recent posts you will see how often I manage to bring it up even when it has no relation to the content of the post!)
the untamed
Based on a Chinese BL (boys’ love) web novel by Mo Xiang Tong Xiu called Mo Dao Zu Shi (roughly translated to Grandmaster of Demonic Cultivation / Founder of Diabolism) has become a bit of a global phenomenon since it aired last summer. I was slightly late to the party (I didn’t start watching it until November after it became available on Netflix) but I have more than made up for it since!
I have re-watched the whole series (all 50 episodes!) twice now, plus the Special Edition (which is basically 50 episodes compressed into 20 episodes for international audiences, with more of a focus on the Wei Wuxian / Lan Wangji relationship that was more subtly portrayed in the 50 episode run, down to having to be mindful of Chinese censorship).
Along with the novel and the live-action series, there is also donghua series (an animated version), a manhua (comic book) adaptation, an audio drama adaption and two spin-off movies from the live-action series (one of which The Living Dead has already aired in 2019, the other Fatal Journey is due to release next week).
The series is absolutely fantastic and has completely taken over my life so I thought it was about time I posted a review!
the story
Wei Wuxian, also known as the Yiling Patriarch, is a person who is feared and despised by almost everyone. As a powerful and deadly cultivator, he became known for his abject cruelty and power, causing the deaths of thousands. He was only stopped when he was killed by Jiang Cheng, once almost as close as a brother to him.
However, the truth isn’t quite as simple as the legend makes out. Was Wei Wuxian really the villain he was made out to be? When he is resurrected following a spell by a mentally unstable young man called Mo Xuanyu (who offers his own body in exchange for Wei Wuxian exacting revenge on those who had wronged him), it is unclear what his motivations will be. Will he seek vengeance against those who had once wronged him?
One person who is happy to see Wei Wuxian is Lan Wangji, an upright young man whose heroics have cultivated legends of his own. The two have a shared history and bond that has surprised all who have known them. Can they both clear Wei Wuxian’s name and find out once and for all who has actually been the mastermind behind all of the unfortunate events that have befallen the cultivator world?
the review
Xiao Zhan and Wang Yibo star as Wei Wuxian and Lan Wangji respectively. Both are mesmerising in their roles and I cannot think of anyone more perfectly suited. Xiao Zhan imbues Wei Wuxian with a carefree spirit and boyish charm, completely at odds with the widespread belief that Wei Wuxian is someone to be feared and hated. Wang Yibo is a revelation as the stoic and unemotional Lan Wangji. His ability to convey how he is feeling in tiny micro-expressions is utterly enthralling.
Both actors are compelling to watch and really give life to their characters. The chemistry between them is off the charts. Although nothing can be explicitly depicted due to censorship, it is clear that these two characters are deeply in love. Filled with lots of longing looks, and artful yet powerful interactions, their bond is clear to see for anyone who is looking but sub-textual enough to skirt pass the censors! It’s a masterclass in subtlety.
The cast of supporting characters are fantastic too! Wang Zhuocheng and Xuan Lu are brilliant as Wei Wuxian’s adoptive siblings Jiang Cheng and Jiang Yanli. Wang Zhuocheng has the daunting task of making the hot-headed and stubborn Jiang Cheng likable and manages to succeed whilst bringing a vulnerability to the character too. Yanli is an amazing big sister to Wei Wuxian and Jiang Cheng – supportive and loving, caring and emotionally reassuring. She proves that strength doesn’t always lie in being physically powerful.
I also really loved Ji Li as the seemingly incompetent and weak Nie Huaisang and Liu Haikuan as Lan Xichen, Lan Wangji’s serene and kind elder brother. I would also be remiss not to mention Meng Ziyi as Wen Qing and Yu Bin as Wen Ning – the cutest siblings that ever lived! And of course, I cannot forget Zhu Zanjin as Jin Guangyao – the sly and smooth manipulator that also manages to be completely sympathetic at the same time. Also, all of the Juniors – love them all!! Not to mention Xiao Xingchen, Song Lan, and Xue Yang… the whole cast is outstanding and there are too many for me to keep singling out standouts.
The story is initially confusing for the first two episodes but please stick with it because it gets so good! The first couple of episodes are set after Wei Wuxian is resurrected but then episode 3 flashes back to the past and shows how he ended up becoming (unfairly) the most feared person in the cultivation world.
It depicts his first meeting with the moral and strict Lan Wangji and how these two ended up defying all expectations and becoming soulmates. How they were torn apart again and again, until Wei Wuxian’s untimely demise. This is a story about second chances and overcoming huge obstacles. It’s about friendship and family. Love and sacrifice. It is such a moving story with plenty of action but lots of character moments. The relationships between the characters propels the story and although there is a lot of plot going on, it is at heart a character-driven narrative (my favourite kind!)
to sum up
If you haven’t watched this series yet, I urge you to please, please, please check it out! It is just too amazing not to share with everyone. It might just be my favourite series in recent years, maybe of all-time, along with Deep Space Nine (my other top favourite). The acting is amazing, the story is moving and you have a love story that manages to be so powerful without ever actually being explicit. It is all the sweeter and intense for being subtle in its depiction. Wangxian 4eva!!!
It will tear your heart to shreds but then mend it again. It will make you lose your mind but then turn around and give you hope again. It is just so good. It is not without its flaws, some of the special effects look a bit cheesy at times, but it is easy to overlook in the grand scheme of things.
some additional thoughts and musings
I cannot believe how well Xiao Zhan and Wang Yibo became their characters – it’s actually quite funny when you see behind the scenes videos of the two of them. They are clearly very close in real life but their personalities are complete opposites – Xiao Zhan seems more zen and peaceful and Wang Yibo is a chaotic little gremlin (I adore him!)
There is so much other content for this series – I am planning on reading the translated novel soon but I am also going to check out everything else along with the author’s other works… will keep me busy for years to come!
Merch for days – I can’t seem to stop buying Untamed-themed merch (check out my STS posts – they are chock full of the merch I have bought week to week!) I am seriously obsessed…
I also have an urge to watch everything Wang Yibo and Xiao Zhan have ever been in (along with the rest of my favourites from the cast) and have been listening to the soundtrack religiously (as well as the individual music the cast have put out whether solo or as part of groups – what a talented cast this is!)
My Twitter feed seems to be less about books these days and more about The Untamed haha!
I might just be crushing slightly on Wang Yibo (and also Xiao Zhan) despite being way older than them both – I feel like a cougar but just look how pretty… 😂

Note
What exactly is the untamed about?? I know a lot of people who like black sails recommend it which is cool because they obviously have good taste. It looks pretty good
Hi anon yes I think it is pretty good! I will do my BEST to give you a quick primer
The Untamed/CQL (that abbreviation is based on the Chinese title, Chen Qing Ling) is a Chinese tv series that is an adaptation of a serial web novel, Mo Dao Zu Shi (”Founder of Demonic Cultivation”).
A bad back-cover summary: 16 years ago, our protagonist Wei Wuxian died. Everyone knows him as a despicable necromancer, an evil person who even turned against his own family. However, his side of the story was different. When he’s resurrected and meets up with Lan Wangji, a man who was once very important to him, he must confront memories from his first life of how everything went wrong. .....also they’re in love!!
IT'S GOT
ROMANCE! the central pairing is a beautiful and sweet canon gay romance*
the other major ship things going on are two separate problematic gay murder love triangles. for me, this is precisely the correct shipping ratio. thanks.
REALLY excellent complicated fraught family relationships that get me just as much as the romance does
fun worldbuilding with a lot of lore and backstory to dig into and think about like, magic systems and history and class structures
some v sexy villains for my villain fuckers out there hey-o
really good acting?? Wang Yibo (who plays Lan Wangji) is particularly impressive for all his little micro-expressions in a way that is very "Spock from Star Trek". everyone else is also very good. and also so pretty. excellent show for looking at extremely beautiful people who act good.
charmingly mid-budget fantasy special effects... love that...
the world's most ADORABLE BABY. who doesn’t love BABY
the costumes and music are great
a big fanbase which has so far really pleasantly surprised me with the quality of fanworks and analysis. lots of great fic, vids, thoughtful meta, etc. like every fandom is annoying sometimes but MDZS fans seem to mostly be very smart and funny, good for us
( * = chinese censorship laws mean that they can't ~technically~ say that it's gay but it's... not actually made non-romantic by this. they just say and do a bunch of things that are obviously romantic but aren't allowed to kiss. like, everyone behind the scenes knew exactly what they were doing and we know this, it’s not AT ALL a case of “adaptation made it straight”)
This is one of those fandoms where it’s hard to give an elevator pitch “sell me on it” summary because if you just like, describe the premise, it doesn’t sound particularly special but it’s just that everything it does is executed REALLY well? Amazing acting, writing, character relationships... like it’s not PERFECT (what is) but for me it’s close! It really grabbed me and sucked me into an obsessive binge, which is saying a lot since I hardly ever watch tv shows and yet this one I sped through all 50 episodes in a month.
My TOP pieces of advice for watching the show are: stick it out for the first few episodes even if you’re not feeling it right away because you WILL BE confused by episodes 1-2, but once you get past the first few the story becomes much more straightforward. Also, look up a character list or something and keep it on hand for reference because they throw a lot of people at you and it is confusing.
I have never seen any of Black Sails, so I don’t know what the crossover appeal is there, BUT I asked a friend who is in that fandom and she said that some of the commonalities are: “canon gays, theme of condemnation of ‘civilized’ society for the harm it does to marginalized people, morally gray protagonist at odds with said society”. perhaps this helps sell!
Although there are several adaptations of MDZS, I would personally recommend starting with watching The Untamed as your gateway, for a few reasons:
the only full English fan translation of the novel is... fine, but the prose quality is a little clunky (there's a really nice, better written translation by someone else that's ongoing at this blog, but they're only about a quarter of the way through atm)
like I said there’s Lots of Characters so I think it really helps to have visuals to keep track of who's who at first lol
the adaptation rearranges the timeline in which the story is told to a way that I personally find much more palatable (from cutting back and forth intermittently between a present & past timeline, to opening with the present and then jumping back and showing you the entire backstory in order)
Besides the novel there's also a manhua and an animated series, which are both closer adaptations of the novel but aren't completed yet, and an audio drama (which I haven't listened to most of).
The show is on Netflix, Viki, and also free to watch on Youtube!
If you have any other questions feel free to hit me up (I’m probably more quickly responsive on twitter though, you can shoot me a DM there if you want!)

She-ra!! (part 1)
Good morning! As you may have noticed, I decided to add a new entry on my journal routine: every Tuesday I will show you a single set, not a collection.
And from the title, you can easily tell what is the topic of this new entry, She-ra! This weekend I bing watched the 5# season on Netflix and I was so ispired to do a Bjd version! I will miss this show soooo much now that is gone, I really want more episodes...
Tumblr media
I have to say that it has been a very long time since I fell so in love with a tv show, even if I wasn’t a big fan of the 80s version (I have seen it when I was a child but I don’t remember much) I think it is so full of positive messages and representation, we needed a show like this from a long time, especially if we consider it is a show for young people.
I will not write a full review here as there is plenty around the web, but I really suggest you to check out the show!
The animation is just average-good, modern anime get us used to excellent quality levels, but every character is so well characterized (well, the main ones, the background cast are just...background unfortunately) and as I said it is full of positive messages and LGBT representations that are still lacking in most tv shows, most of all the ones for young peoples... in conclusion, it is not the BEST show ever but a very interesting example in the wide world of the tv shows! How I wish a show like this when I was a teenager!
Going back to the costume, I will not spoiler you the new costume of this latest season (even if you probably have seen it in the Netflix thumbnail as I did) and also because I do not like it very much, I decided to make the first one, very different from the 80s one but very fitting for this new teen reboot!
I was already studing this costume when the first season aired because I was thinking of cosplaying She-ra in some conventions (as right now I have almost the same bodytype), I am still thinking about it... never say never...
Let’s start talking about the...
- Materials
I chosed white spandex for the main part of the costume: the top and the shorts, golden spandex for the details (with some foam structure inside to keep the shape) and red cady fabric for the cape - I have already used this fabric for a Thor cape some times ago and even if it is a bit pricey compared to my usual materials but it is really worth the price! It has the perfect flow and the look...speaks for itself! -
For the chest and the tiara’s gems I will use some glass gems I bought from Aliexpress some time ago, painted with different nailpolish; for the shoes, the armbands and the tiara I will use foam and fabrics...I am still thinking about making the sword or not...we’ll see....
Tumblr media
 - Step 1: patterns
I decided to use the patterns I did for the pajamas set with a few alterations.
For the top I used the t-shirt base without the sleeves (I am still thinking about making a binder - a sport bra to compress the chest, often used for female cosplayers to do male characters - because these dolls have sooo much breast compared to the original character...)
Tumblr media
For the shorts I used the pattern for the pajama pants, already altered to make some leggins a while ago (I will show you their set in a few weeks)
Tumblr media
When the She-ra set will be done you will find the PDF pattern pieces, including accessories, in my Etsy shop.   Done with the bases, last’s start with the...
- Step 2: shorts
I decided to start from the shorts because I tought they will be the quickest piece, so after cutting the white spandex base I started to handmade sew the golden stripes on the sides...you will see A LOT of handsewing in this project!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Before joining the two parts I decided to give the stripes a good press and I fitted them on my model doll to check the lenghts.
Tumblr media
After I decided the hem lenghts I sewn waist and legs with a very tiny zig zag stitch on my machine and i noticed that the spandex elasticity was enough to not use an elastic band on the waist.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(After seeing them with the top on I then decided to shorten them for the second time because I didn’t like the final lenght) With the shorts done, it was time for the...
- Step 3: top
I made the base in white spandex but before joining the pieces I decided to do the crest on the front.
Tumblr media
As you can see in the pictures, at the beginning I was going for a single piece, a top with a flared bottom, but in the end I decided to redo this part because I didn’t like the “skirt”.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I decided also to add two little darts on the bust because these dolls have really too much breast! As everythig is soo small in this project it was almost all handsewn, so I decided to discard my initial idea to make the crest with foam covered in golden spandex and I went for a golden spandex cut-out, handsewn obviously.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
After finishing the crest I decided to wait until the end of the top to add the glass bead because I will probably work with this piece a lot! So i decided to go on with the flared part and to do the final version of it. Firsty of all I cut away the wrong part,
Tumblr media
then I redraw it as a half circle “skirt” in three parts, one for the back and two for the front, with the center front slightly shorter than the back. I was thinking about leaving the raw edge but in the end I made a little zig zag stitch just like the shorts.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And then, for ending with the white spandex, I made a tiny hight neck collar, mostly handmade as well. I was thinking about the usual stripe of velchro fastener in the back but I noticed that a small slit on the back was enough to fit the doll’s head, so I didn’t add it but only a small snap button on the neck (most of the back will be hidden with the cape anyway...)
Tumblr media
To finish the top I started to make the epaulettes, with 2 mm foam as a base. I drafted the basic shape in paper pattern, then I made it two times in foam and then on a double layer of golden spandex.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I sewn the little gap with tiny handmade stiches and the I attached them on the sleeve cap with some others handsewn stitches.
Tumblr media
This is the (almost) finished top! Isn’t it lovely? My fangirl soul is so eager to finish this costume!
Tumblr media
This is a little preview with the flared part attached...I’m alredy in love!!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
- Step 4: cape and belt
Before starting with the accessories, that I will probabily show you in Part 2, I made the cape and the belt to finish the base of the costume.
For the cape I made an half-circle to add more volume at the hem and I also made the top wider than the shoulders so I can gather it a bit more.
Tumblr media
(BONUS PIC - Salem wants to try the cape on)
Tumblr media
I really love the look of it! I put the cape aside for now because I still need white thread on my machine so I will hem it later on...
Tumblr media Tumblr media
For the belt I decided to sewn it onto the top instead of doing another single piece (also to hid the waist seam because I didn’t like that much)
I made a mock up with white spandex to check the lenght and the V depth, then I use this mock up as the pattern for the final one on golden spandex.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
And this is the finishe top! I really like it and I cant’ wait to finish this project! As finishing touches I still need to add the glass bead on the crest and the snap button on the neck.
Tumblr media
See you on Thursday as usual for the second part of this loooong entry where I will show you the accessories and the final look.
See ya!
Chiara (StregaCorvina)
Bentornati!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Tumblr media Tumblr media
- Step 4: mantello e cintura
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
A presto!
