[INSCRYPTION SPOILERS FOR THOSE WHO HAVE NOT PLAYED IT AND READ UP ON THE ARG'S CONCLUSION]
-
i think you might like aspects of my reading of the game given your post on Inscryption so i hope you don't mind this message.
my reading of the game is that you really Are the one playing the game, not Luke, because Luke is now long since dead. You're playing the game that P03 managed to upload to the internet, along with stray files that perhaps it or the old_data mashed in there. You are the one interacting with the characters and playing the game, just also seeing and hearing Luke's last moments like a lingering digital ghost. The character's memories and sense of time may also be scrambled a bit due to the old_data and the rush job that was p03's "great transcendence", thus mistaking you for Luke at certain times. But thats just my reading! I could be totally wrong lol. I just thought you may find it interesting to chew on so I wanted to share. :3
ooh, that is a super interesting way of looking at it !! thanks for sharing :o

Game Report: Inscryption by Daniel Mullins
I ADORED this game, even though I'm usually not one to enjoy deck builders or rogue-likes, and that's testament to the mastery of atmosphere, character, and storytelling on display here. This one's going to stick with me for a while, I can't recommend it enough!

Game Report: Return of the Obra Dinn
I had a couple of false starts with this game but I'm so happy I got stuck in and finished it this year! One of the coolest ways of balancing detective work in a game I've seen and without letting you completely guess your way to the answers. The awesome dither-punk visuals and stellar sound design gave it a consistent and immersive atmosphere. Highly recommend!

Book Report: Emily Wilde’s Encyclopaedia of Faeries by Heather Fawcett
After loving ‘A Natural History of Dragons’ so much, I knew this book would be up my street. Fictional/fantastical academia is so much fun, especially with a protagonist like Emily Wilde. For once a rivals-to-lovers plotline won my heart, and I can’t wait to get my hands on the sequel.

- J.R.R Tolkien, The Fellowship of the Ring
Outer Wilds is a story that's very special to me, and I thought this Gandalf quote fitted it beautifully

Game Report: Crypt Custodian
I really enjoyed this cute, cosy little metroidvania. It was much 'kinder' than brutal games like Hollow Knight, so I'd recommend giving it a go if you've bounced off other metroidvanias because of the intense difficulty! The characters are sweet and funny and the combat and puzzles were all really fun and well-balanced. Have fun!

Game Report: Laika: Aged Through Blood
Overall this game was a great time and I really enjoyed the unique biking mechanic. Super cool art, atmosphere and music, it just ended up a bit weirdly paced towards the end and I completed it partly due to sunk cost fallacy. Honestly I should've done a whole page for the map character though they were my favourite person to run into :D

Book Report: The Sin Eater by Megan Campisi
I haven't read much historical fiction, but I really enjoyed this twist on it - all the clearly well thought-out worldbuilding. The setting was so vivid and the imagery so visceral... sometimes too visceral, I'm squeamish haha. I loved watching the intrigue unravel...

Book Report: A Natural History of Dragons by Marie Brennan
I adored this book! I'm always such a sucker for an in-fiction non-fiction book, and this fictional memoir is just wonderful in how it handles its voice. The dragon naturalism is so well-realised, and there are just enough references to the fictional present day that it kept me in that reality without it being intrusive. I loved the unfolding mystery and the characters. Can't wait to read the next volumes!

A lot of media lately about birds as symbols of death... I've enjoyed the overlapping themes! Herons specifically have been featuring as witnesses of guilt, curses and duty. I wonder if there's a mythological precedent for birds to be used this way? Perhaps flight and the realm of the sky inspires us to think about things beyond...

Book Report: Unraveller by Frances Hardinge
I really enjoyed this book - I always love Hardinge's rich worldbuilding and character relationships, and I was pleasantly surprised by how deep the book decided to go on its premise! It was a great place to jump back into reading for pleasure after uni sucked some of the joy out for me :,)
Note - I adore this cover (the version with the heron) and I can't seem to find a straight answer on who illustrated it. If anyone knows, please tell me!
