something i adore about nikolai's character is there's still something selfish about his moments of selflesness, and sometimes there's moments of cowardice in his bravery. he puts himself on the front lines of war with fjerda, and races towards the battle during the bombing of os alta because he won't ask his soldiers to take a risk he isn't willing to take, because he needs to do something, because he needs to feel like a privateer instead of a king again, and perhaps because of a desire to die in the place of someone he would otherwise have to send to die. but what happens to ravka if he dies? he's still risking his people because ravka becomes so much more vulnerable without a leader. it's wild that nikolai seems to find staying alive and safe to lead in the aftermath of trauma on a personal and national scale a much more terrifying prospect than dying honorably in a way that hopefully saves at least one other person, because neither he nor zoya can take one more loss. but he's also a ruler of an unstable nation, with no heir, and can't afford the luxury of being brave.

Hear me out, single dad Tommy.
He's dating a woman (not Abby) and maybe they're engaged, maybe they're just dating - but something feels off, feels wrong and Tommy is still figuring himself out. The conclusion he's coming to is terrifying in the way that it doesn't feel wrong.
He thinks he might be gay,
And then she tells him she's pregnant, and it's his. Maybe the condom broke, maybe she was changing birth control, or maybe we just handwave it away as an accident like the show does. They sure as hell weren't trying for it.
And he's terrified and it hits him that he can't do it anymore. Continue to live the lie he didn't quite know he was living. So he tells her he's gay. He breaks her heart, and listens to her cry and he can't help but feel relieved at the weight off his shoulders.
They continue to live together as they figure it out. She starts looking at apartments, they start talking about dividing their stuff, and then they start talking about the baby. And maybe she doesn't know if she wants to keep it or not. There's a lot more crying.
Together, they come to a decision. Tommy keeps his house - it's in his name after all - and she moves out. She pursues her career, goes travelling, finds herself.
He keeps their baby.

Watching House, you just have to accept that sometimes the writers will make him act gross and slightly out of character.
1; because of the times, and 2; likely because the writers have their own weird fetish about it 🙄🙄
#specifically the episodes of him interacting with a teenage girl#house has been shown that he very specifically thinks that teenagers are stupid and he’s not attracted to them#he ALWAYS opts for the older woman; around his age#even with cameron; he didn’t go for her#so WHY are there random af episodes where suddenly this teenager who is flirting with him is soooo hot and tempting#they even use ‘jailbait’ a lot 🙄🙄🤢#almost everything he does is out of a place of sarcasm or not taking anything seriously; or even as a political/social commentary#the intersex episode specifically is less him being weird and more a social commentary and explicitly pointing out how absurd & weird it is#so WHY the FUCK did they suddenly write him like *that*#like; he’s not just flattered. I know that’s a common argument.#they make it clear that house finds her attractive; and I think that’s so gross!#when they make him ironic and sassy and sarcastic about it; that’s great!#I love his sassy personality; that he always has this unserious persona; a lot of what he says is ironic#or trying to make some sort of social statement#don’t take my Dr house away from me 😡 s3 ep 3&4 NOT MY DR HOUSE!#house writers for specifically those episodes when I get you!!!#ITS ALSO THE FACT THE SHOW HAS SO MUCH SOCIAL COMMENTARY about how normal it is in society (at the time) about ‘jailbait’#and casual gross comments about minors; there’s episodes where house specifically makes a point of saying shit just to show how absurd it is#sarcastic commentary; mind you#AND THEN they turn around and do the exact gross shit they were just making a commentary about?#house writers WHEN I FIND YOU… 🫵🫵🫵🫵#sorry I have lots of thoughts about this 😡😡#see; house is an asshole. but he’s a lovable asshole. he’s literally meant to be still likable at the end of the day#house#dr house#Greg house#Gregory house#house md

“I forgot you do that. Whenever we get – what’s the word – close? Anywhere in the neighborhood of emotional vulnerability? You back off, or make some joke, or find any way to shut the door on me.”

Half of this fic is just me looking for more excuses to put in all the cool women that the show wrote out
Still working on the next chapter for the GOT rewrite from hell, but I had to write a little about how the fuck menstruation works in Westeros (other than "oh you can get married now!" which I refuse to believe is the norm) and also to introduce the Sphinx:
The next morning, Shireen woke up to find blood on her shift and a sharp sort of twist in her stomach, as though she'd swallowed a molten pin. The blood came out easily enough, with frantic scrubbing in the basin, but the pain grew over the course of the morning.
"It's your flowering," said Maester Alleras briskly, when she went to him in a tightly-controlled panic. "How old are you?"
"Fourteen," said Shireen, realizing the date. Her nameday had passed two weeks ago.
"And what do you know of flowering?" he asked, smiling slightly at her blush. "Forgive me, but Northerners have queer ideas of teaching their children about these matters. I do not wish to presume your level of education."
"I know it can last for a week or more," Shireen said, thinking of Mother's cycles, how she would confine herself to her rooms to endure the pain in solitude and prayer. "It's very painful and disgusting, but it allows me to bear my future husband's children and therefore is a gift from the gods."
"Hmm. Well, that is what you were taught, at least," grunted the maester. He got up from his desk, rummaging through the cupboard behind him. He was a tall, skinny young man with the deep brown skin and tightly-coiled hair of a Summer Islander, and shared their fondness for brightly-colored nails: they seemed to dance along the shelves until he plucked out a jar and presented it to her with a flourish. "This will help with the pain, and stop the bleeding after this cycle. People of the North use it a great deal."
"Is it moon tea?" Shireen asked, taking it gingerly and wondering at Maester Alleras's use of the term Northerners, which sounded different from People of the North. Perhaps in the Summer Isles, everyone on Westeros was a Northerner. "Why do they use it so much here?"
"It is," he confirmed, "and as for why..." He shrugged. "I've only just arrived in Winterfell, you understand, and as you may have guessed—" this said with another smile— "I was born elsewhere. But from what I've gathered, they must be careful when they have children. The North can only feed so many."
Shireen thought of Fire & Blood, which Father had read to her as a child. The Winter Wolves had been a company of Northerners, who had answered Lord Cregan's call to fulfill the Pact of Ice and Fire with Rhaenyra Targaryen. They'd been greybeards who had knowingly marched to their deaths, for such was the custom of the North back then: at the start of each winter, the old men of each keep and castle and holdfast would choose amongst themselves who would go out into the snows. Some would return home in the spring, having endured the cold or escaped it to find their fortunes in southron lands; most would not.
"Put a thimbleful of this into whatever tea you like best," Maester Alleras continued, gesturing at the jar, his fingernails catching the light as it streamed into the rookery. "Once a day, and come back when you need more."
"Shouldn't I ask—" Shireen bit her lip.
But the maester caught her meaning; his eyes narrowed. "Shouldn't you ask your parents? Yes, I suppose you should. But they should be here to be asked, and they should have told you the truth."
"What's the truth?" Shireen asked, instead of admitting that Mother and Father had never told her anything about it. She couldn't imagine either of them even mentioning the subject. All her information had come from books, or from Mother's complaints.
"The truth is that if a cycle is painful and lasts for a week or more, that is the sign of an illness, not the will of a god. The truth is that you may well find it disgusting, but it is merely something our bodies do and should never be a source of disgust or shame to you or anyone else." He glared, though it did not seem directed at her. "And as for 'bearing your future husband's children,' the truth is that they are your children, just as much as his — indeed more so, unless he carries them about for the first nine months after their birth. But you will not be a woman grown for at least another two years, and any man who wishes you to bear children until at least that time is unworthy of your hand or your love." He sat back down, his half-dozen maester's links chiming musically. "Now run along, little princess."
Lady Sansa was just outside the door, with her brother beside her. "See, I told you she smelled funny," Rickon said triumphantly.
Shireen scowled at him. "Shut up." It was kind of him, she supposed, to have worked out that something was wrong and to wait for her outside the maester's chambers. But Rickon Stark was the sort of friend who was difficult to be grateful for.
"Yes, please do, Rickon," Lady Sansa said, pressing a businesslike kiss on the crown of Rickon's head before turning him round by the shoulders and pushing him down the corridor. Rickon protested, but went all the same, and Lady Sansa turned back to Shireen. "Moon tea?" she asked, nodding at the jar.
Shireen resisted the impulse to hide it somehow. It is merely something our bodies do and should never be a source of disgust or shame. "Yes, my lady," she said.
"Come along, then," said Lady Sansa. "I have some excellent tea from the Arbor. How does that sound?"
"Could I have a hot water-skin, too?" Shireen asked, as Lady Sansa looped her arm through hers.
"Of course. And the lemon trees in the greenhouse have given up their first fruits — we'll have lemon cakes for lunch instead of venison." She smiled and Shireen thought that even if Sansa Stark never took another husband or had children of her own, she was still all the mother that the North ever would need.

I think I did a pretty good job bringing her to life in the sims!!! I wanna make a full-on edit with her, but this was plenty for tonight.
#ts4#the sims 4#sims 4 CAS#ts4 CAS#adventures in cas#my sims#cas#areelu#areelu p:wotr#pathfinder wrath of the righteous areelu#p:wotr#pathfinder wrath of the righteous#fandom sims#god I love this woman so fucking much#I finally understand all you people who get attached to non-companion NPCs from bg3.#seriously tho. If you like BG3 go play p:wotr!!!! You won't regret it.#I'm over 70 hours in and not even 2/3rds of the way done with the game. A true completionist run can apparently take 200 hours.#and the characters are amazing the story is incredible#the mythic path system blows my socks off. It's so unique and awesome and I wish more games had something like it#AND it goes all the way to level 20#it's based off the pathfinder rulesystem which is in some ways similar to dnd but different in others.#and this sexy lady is in it!!!!#also: being evil is ***actually*** a viable path in this game.#you don't lose out on any content by being evil. you can choose your alignment and in just about every conversation there's evil options.#also lawful and chaotic ones.#hell you can literally become a lich or a demon and go full-throttle evil.#this game is so fucking amazing and in some ways I think it's actually better than bg3.#but I know a lot of people here like bg3 for the aesthetic elements (mods + character customization + stunning visuals)#so those people probably won't care about p:wotr.#but if you're like me and you like playing RPGs based on tabletop systems and you like interesting stories then you should totally play.

I've talked abt this with friends before, but the complete and utter lack of any romance in TCF is what really makes it special to me. And what greatly amuses me when reading the manhwa, as the artist made Cale so sexy for no reason 😂
But I can't stress enough how impossibly rare it is to find stories with no romance. Not just between the main characters, but between any characters *at all*. Everyone is in a static relationship, a widow, or single. Romance is a concept that is so alien to the plot, it may as well not exist. And I LOVE IT. Consider me mildly bias as an aro/ace, but it allows the plot to focus all of its attention on the story it wants to tell (namely, Cale driving his family insane).
And at this point? Introducing any kind of romance at all would undermine the entire plot in a way that would be irreparable. I've compared it to a simple office romcom having a zombie apocalypse c-plot halfway through the story. It'd change the story *completely*, lmao.
That being said, the vibes between Alberu and Cale are hysterical. I don't think it started out this way, but at this point? The author is absolutely aware of and playing with it. Alberu treats Cale like he's his exasperated elderly wife that's constantly dealing with her stubborn husband, it's fantastic.
And on that note, if there's romance in part 2? Don't tell me 😂
#tcf spoilers#blabbing.txt#I'm so annoying about it but man. I just. I treasure the total lack of romance so much#the trash of the count's family#trash of the count's family#tcf#And I know. It's rude to assume. The author may be happily married. But.#The aro/ace vibes are the most powerful I've ever seen. They jump off the page and directly into my heart#Author isn't just aro/ace coded. She's MY TYPE of aro/ace coded.#(namely being completely and confidently disinterested in the entire concept)#And what's more? Author loves women. Maybe not lesbian- that's way too presumptuous.#But I think the moment that sold that thought to me was when Cale ruthlessly punished a female bad guy without a spare thought to gender#Listen. Listen. I love every single character in this story. They're all so wonderful. Girls and boys alike. All written with so much care.#But the biggest tell of how a writer thinks of women... Is how they write their bad guys. And TCF blows me away every single time.#Bad guy women are ASSHOLES. IT'S AWESOME!!! Seriously#They're pretty rare but when they come up? They're treated with the same level of disregard as anyone else. MWAH.#Of course there's no gruesome gal torture scenes- those are all dudes. And I'm ngl. This is 100% contradictory but... it would feel gross.#However. He does psychologically break at least one woman 😂😂😂 that was very funny. What a king#(spoilers: I'm talking about the gal Choi Han yoinked during the finale at maple castle)#Anyways. Author has her priorities in order. Dumbass protagonist and his fleet of exasperated kids. Women kicking ass. 💯
