i am not a woman, i'm a god - redux
I'd already been working on tweaking my old Areelu sim for a few days, but then @strangegrapefruit posted these ritual horns, and I instantly knew they were perfect for her. So behold the new and improved Architect of the Worldwound.

As you can tell, these horns are much more accurate than the other ones I had on her. Still not perfect, but better. And I also added arm tattoos (not exact, but the best I had), rings (recolored just for her), bracelet, bracer, and belt accessories. I also added her wound (purple "scar"). I know it's on the wrong side, it's fine. Oh, and I recolored this dress for her.

Update on my Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous obsession: I have fallen head over heels in love with Areelu. I'm OBSESSED with this woman. She may be responsible for causing the apocalypse, but I don't care. I love her. I'm kind of tempted to angle for the secret ending, but we'll see what happens.
Also, I've been torn between romancing Lann and Galfrey, but I just did Lann's personal quest in Chapter 4, and I think that sold me on him. I love that man to the ends of the earth, and we all know I love some whump-adjacent things. (though I do wish that being near Samankelev actually gave him negative buffs.... Would it make the fight more miserable? Yes. Do I want it anyways? Also yes.)
Also, Woljif and Arushalae are my best friends. Woljif's personal quest in Chapter 4 and him calling my character "the best thing that ever happened to [him]" broke me a little bit. And I just adore Arushalae so fucking much. Her learning to dream???? So fucking pure and adorable, I love it.
(If I had a nickle for every time I'd fallen in love with a fictional chaotic purple tiefling with curled horns who convinced a group of people that he was someone important, I'd have two nickles. Which isn't a lot, but it's weird that it's happened twice.)
And Ember... my dear Ember. Where I'm at pretty soon we'll be going to talk to Nocticula, and you'd better believe I'm taking her with me. Do I know this will probably have interesting consequences? Yes. Am I going to let her say whatever she wants anyways? Also yes. I think Reda (my ranger PC) is both vaguely amused by and also inspired by Ember. Like, Reda doesn't seen how someone who's gone through so much horror can be so kind, even to the people who hurt her. But at the same time, she finds it endearing, and Ember helps her see the good in the world, and helps keep her from losing hope during the Crusade and all that.

Areelu could have taken the sword when offered as Yaniel
Didn't get screenshots of this because I didn't realize the significance when it happened, but when you offer the sword to Yaniel, she can't grab it due to being weak and says you keep it.
But. Why would Areelu do that? HM. I am excited to learn more about such an interesting character....

god I am just so obsessed with Wrath of the Righteous as a story.
Like "x genre story turns out to be y genre" *always* gets me but something about the hard flip from "epic crusade against evil" to "very dangerous whodunit/conspiracy mystery thriller" is just so well done.
Owlcat's ground up rewrite of Areelu as a Machiavellian puppeteer reshaping the world and pitting gods against each other not for mustache twirling Evil™ but out of love and grief.
the constant sinking feeling of "something else is going on here" you get throughout the whole second and third act as you push deeper into the Worldwound and things just don't add up.
every time I hear Searching for Answers play I just feel my skin start to crawl as I wonder if the thread I've chosen to pull will unravel the knot or tighten the noose.
tl;dr if anyone has any other CRPGs or games in general or shows or books or anything that encapsulate the almost paranoid vibe of WotR please lmk

Polaroid pictures with pathfinder characters, if wotr and km were films and they were actors, that our gang from Pathfinder Ask made! 1) me and @boggubozakatochnihmashinok (Ramien) "I wanted a prop like that too!" (Varn) "This is a blessing of Cayden Cailean!" 2) @ronavorona16 (Lann) "You thought I was always so handsome? But that's a makeup!" 3) @laurelinlote (Tristian and, behind him, Kalikke) 4) Ilrand (Commander and Excess) "Am I real? Is he real? Haha, in fact we are both real." 5) RadSilv (Commander) "This is me auditioning for the role of the сount Arendae. But playing the lead role was also good!" 6) @doctorpasta and @kutkhart (Commander and Irabeth) "Will Deskari become a butterfly after a kiss?" 7) kutkhart and @alittlecrazy23 (Regill and Nenio) "We need coffee. At any cost." 8) kutkhart and Lina (Stitch, Areelu and Regill) "Discussing villainous monologues." Thanks to Kutkh for organizing this!

I have a lot of thoughts about the Secret ending and Endgame but the one that's got me in a spiral [affectionate] right now is
how when you go back to Areelu's lab and you find her memories. You play through this whole situation with her kid summoning monsters and doing stupidass shit right. You see it all and then at the end there's this very odd bit of dialog where the kid is like 'oh mom you'd never actually let me be hurt and you're only letting me explore on my own and someday I'll be big and strong thank you mom!' or some shit like that.
That moment and the kid's horrible death are the only memories you see of him, and then you get to speak to Areelu herself. And what she has to say is so interesting right, she talks about how absorbed she was in her work and how desperately focused she was on essentially saving mankind from themselves that she didn't even realize Inquisitors were at her door until it was too late to stop them from murdering her child.
And of course seeing her kid die like that broke her, of course not being able to resurrect him because Pharasma had already passed judgement made things worse.
But what gets me is that her grief, her regret, is something she's never actually processed. When she talks to you in the secret ending, and you spell out all you've done to understand her, she breaks because she can't see you as anything but her child anymore... which is so heartbreaking to me because she never even knew who her child was.
All she has are her memories, which themselves have literally become projections of her own regrets. The kid we see summoning up Balors at age ten, who fully understood and accepted his mother's motivations, who only ever acted out because of curiosity and never because of a harsh sentiment between them... I'm pretty sure that kid never existed. Areelu, so caught up in breaking the world to avenge and reclaim her child, forgot who that child ever actually was.
The implications of the Knight Commander's time in her Lab suggest that (if you're playing a shorter-lived race anyway) she takes them from some point in childhood to begin her experiments; periodically snatching up and then re-releasing them to assure her long-term study is successful. She's manipulative if not outright coercive, resorting to abusive experimentation, ruining the life of a living child to have perfect dominion over a dead one.
Her tragedy is so delicious to me, I must say.
