I also have to say, I don’t know why people who sell their writing get so mad when people guess their plots! Like when you hear about the Game of Thrones/ Star Wars etc guys changing their plots because people were guessing plots and having theories based on the FORESHADOWING THEY PUT IN.

I am completely surprised and excited by how people’s guesses for Bee have gotten closer and closer and how many have landed on the mark. Genuinely very exciting and satisfying and not what I was expecting. The feeling is very good, and it feels collaborative and motivational.

I don’t know what the point I’m trying to make here is, but I think it’s that foreshadowing is fun to set up and also fun to pay off, and that I like it when people guess what’s going on! We are all playing a game involving lying with words and it is collaborative! I think paid media would be more fun if people had more fun making it!

Vengeance Saga spoilers!

For Six Hundred Strike, I don't imagine Odysseus using Poseidon's trident against him, actually. Mostly because my idea of Poseidon is that he is much larger than Odysseus— a giant, terrifying vision of the sea, no, he is the sea.

There is no clear differentiation between the sea and Poseidon— the waves his spilling hair, the sea foam his skin, the mist his robes.

Imagine this:

Odysseus using the trident to wash Poseidon and himself to the rocky coast of Ithaca, his homeland, rugged and worn as he himself is. Birthplace to six hundred men gone to Poseidon's cruelty, he doesn't use Poseidon's own weapon against him, no, that would be too simple.

He wants his Ithacan brothers to drink their fill of revenge as well. He raises the trident and commands the water to his will, fighting the brutality of the storm whose winds force against his arm, as if warning him not to do anything rash.

His gaze finds the sharp, jagged edges of shore— large rocks like spikes that jut out of the sand like a palisade of swords.

That will do.

The god of the sea smashes against the rocks as Odysseus strikes the trident down onto the sand. Poseidon ebbs away before forming back, like how broken waves regenerate. Odysseus strikes.

Again. Again. Again.

He watches Poseidon splinter against stone before immortality melts him back together again. The golden blood that sprays in his face as Poseidon smashes against the bank leaves him with a greater satisfaction than any gleam of treasure ever would.

The storm's wind whips and howls in his face like a shrieking banshee— he uses it to pretend not to hear the god.

Odysseus' screams for venegeance, for retribution and for the god to call off the storm, drowns the other's pleas for him to stop. This was payback for his crew; does Charon accept gods' blood as payment? It was gold, after all. As it seeps into the waters, Odysseus hoped that it would reach his crew— so that they could finally cross the river Styx. So that they can finally, finally stop their aimless wandering.

Poseidon gurgles out that Odysseus is a monster. Like Charydbis— Odysseus spews back the gods' teachings in his face: Ruthlessness was mercy, was it not?

Poseidon... relents. The trident slips from Odysseus' hand and clatters on the ground. The storm subsides, and the mist lifts.

Odysseus' eyes set upon rocky Ithaca once again. He doesn't look back at Poseidon— there is no need to turn back to the sea now that he's home again.

The King of Ithaca has returned.

Yes, I replaced treasure Odysseus brought home in the book with Poseidon's blood LMFAO! I really thought the treasure part was important in the book, so I wanted to give Epic!Odysseus something of the sort as well.

I also used Charydbis as a likening of sorts because... well. Wasn't it the book— so I just had to incorporate her somehow! How'd I do?

This is how Ithaca's shore look like in my mind while I was writing. Probably not accurate. I just wanted there to be a connection between the place of birth of the crew VS poseidon being their cause of death.

I always have nightmares of smashing against there, because they look so sharp:

But facing outwards, so it makes more sense, haha. I'm just thinking about how Epic!Odysseus is a certified religion betrayer now. Whoops!

Also I just learned that Palisade is an ancient greek thing? I thought it was a Biology thing LOL. I keep running into these coincidences!

cause oftentimes I find myself thinking about how, just in general, I love the way bodies look, you know? I think they're just... pretty. but not in the sense that I'm attracted to them, you know? they're just very interesting, I guess. I don't really have the right words to describe it.

and I know a lot of people will probably be like, 'oh but that's what romantic/sexual/other kind of attraction is!' but I don't think it is, really? because the more I think on it, the more I realize I just... like the way people look, and the more it affects how I look at myself.

for example, a while back I realized that like, hips? and thighs? are just really... GAH I don't have the right words for this, every way I put it sounds sexual, but I swear it isnt. its just they... like, from an artistic perspective, are so... lovely. I don't know. jesus. but anyway! um, after noticing this for a bit, I realized... yeah. I like how my hips looks too! I like my legs!!

and this happens with pretty much... everything else I like about people, I guess? I'll notice how someones jawline is really cool and then I look in the mirror and I think, hm, yeah, my face shape isn't so bad, maybe. I look at eyes, eyebrows, noses, mouths, the creases in between, and I see mine, and I wonder how I never noticed the way they look before, because they're not as bad as I thought.

anyways, I guess I was just wondering if aesthetic admiration for anyone else (whether or not you're asexual, really) ever kind of made you admire yourself more? love the way you look more? it may just be me, but... I don't know. I don't think I've loved myself like this in a long time, though.

So not interested in other people’s reviews of my favorite things 90% of the time. I made the mistake of glancing in at some YJ reviews and they were like “Gosh, the weird unhinged show is doing some weird unhinged shit this season, huh?” “Damn, it sucks when stories about how trauma warps people and their abilities to connect with one another results in unlikeable behavior, isn’t it? 😕” Like, good goddamn, you write these for a living?? Must be hard being the smartest viewer in the room, I don’t know how you ever cope.

Finished reading and rewatching THE CURSE OF THE NINTH.

There's two big reasons to love this episode:

The first being, its distinction as the third(!) period piece of the entire show - even down to having its own typeface for the titlecard:

The second and more obvious one being, the ~*meta commentary*~ (henry paker: is it a jeu de miroir~) of a composer being terrified of finishing their 9th symphony vs r&s finishing the 9th series of their show. I loved all the quotes alluding to this - probably the most subtle one being, "After all, there's many a good tune can be played on an old piano." Which I feel is quite a hopeful outlook in terms of what they'll have in store post-S/F? :)

It's really interesting that in the foreword, they explain that this episode had almost been written as part of s8, but they held off due to its similarities to PARASKEVIDEKATRIAPHOBIA!

The main difference between the script and the ep - apart from a few lines being cut out (and the ending, ofc) - were changes to the wording in the dialogue, presumably to make it more "era appropriate". Little things like: "I'm one of his biggest admirers" to "I'm one of his greatest admirers", or "I'm pretty much done now, actually" to "I'm finished now, in fact".

Six more points that stood out on read & rewatch:

Stage directions for an establishing shot of the house is written in multiple times (I don't immediately recall r&s being this explicit about establishers in the other scripts)! It's quite clear they meant to go big in this episode and I'm very glad they got that opportunity.

I definitely giggled a lot during the scene where Jonah first meets Lillian (how can you not?), but I laughed out loud at finally learning how Dicky's surname is actually spelt! I never watched the ep with subtitles lol

This comment from the sub came to my mind during the grave-digging scene. The sound effects when Jonah snaps the fingers off and the fact that this was specifically scripted!! When they were thinking, "What else haven't we done?" did R just go, "I'd like to bury someone alive"??

This is easily my favourite scene. I love that the initial fake-out of looking like the bust is talking to Jonah was scripted. The reveal of Nathaniel ended up being such a slow burn as well - so well done! "You're not at the beginning, boy, you're at the end. It's the final movement, remember." Another subtle meta quote! Actually quite apt from a viewer's perspective as well, as someone who got into the show in s9.

Also, it took a third watch (today was my fourth lol) to really notice the exchange: "I've been assured by your wife that the curse isn't real." / "Then why didn't she complete it herself?" If this is Jonah talking to himself (that's my read on it, anyway), then it's a very telling moment just before the ending. It explains why he looks so damned smug when he hands the missing piece of the symphony to Lillian!!

I sometimes think whether the curse is "real" or not is a bit open-ended - the script even made this a bit vague? But at the same time, I appreciate how full on they made it in the ep (I mean ofc, it's Guillem lol). The fall over the balcony is also very THE OMEN-esque! Speaking of Guillem, I'm so glad they got him back to direct this ep!! I couldn't appreciate this on first watch but I definitely did by the time I had completed the show and rewatched s9!

Reece tweeting about this episode having a different ending was definitely what prompted me to look into getting the scriptbooks. And what an ending?? (Another stage direction for an establisher as well!) Jonah's really not so innocent, is he...
