youtube
Anora (Cinema - 7 Novembre)
youtube
Small Things Like These (Cinema - 28 Novembre)
SERIE TV
youtube
The Day of the Jackal (Peacock - 7 Novembre [USA], Now - 8 Novembre [Italia])
youtube
Yellowstone 5B (Paramount Network - 10 Novembre)
youtube
Cross (Prime Video - 14 Novembre)
youtube
Dune: Prophecy (HBO - 17 Novembre [USA], Now - 18 Novembre [Italia])

Braves Bats Shine In Win.
Twins 4 Braves 9 W-Fried (4-0) L-Sanchez (0-4)
The Minnesota Twins played their last split-squad of the spring. Half of the Twins and Braves played in games in North Port and Fort Myers. The Twins were ready from the start at Cool Today Park. Donovan Solano reached on a pop up to second base that Hoy Park couldn’t catch. With two outs, Kyle Garlick smoked a Max Fried offering out to left for a two-run blast. The Twins had a two-run lead before the Braves grabbed a bat. The Braves bounced back in the second as Michael Harris looped a single to center. Ryan LaMarre inexplicably threw behind him as he went to second. Ozzie Albies lined a single to right and Forrest Wall hit a run-scoring single to left to put Atlanta on the board. The Braves got back to work in the third when Ronald Acuna led-off with a triple to left-center. Matt Olson hit an RBI groundout to even the game at two all. Austin Riley kept the chain moving with a walk and Sean Murphy singled to right. Michael Harris lined a run-scoring single to right to put the Braves on top. Forrest Wall plated a pair with a double to right-center as the Braves led 5-2 after three frames. The Twins would jump ahead in the fourth wihen Tony Wolters and Ryan LaMarre walked. Mark Contreras hit an RBI groundout to inch the Twins within two. Hoy Park led-off the fourth with a walk and Ronald Acuna smoked an Aaron Sanchez fastball out to left for a two-run homer. The Twins loaded the bases quickly in the sixth and Mark Contreras hit a sac fly to left. The Braves kept adding on in the seventh as Joe Hudson led-off with a single and Ozzie Albies tripled him home. Forrest Wall hit an RBI groundout to put Atlanta up 9-4. Ty Tice threw up a zero in the eighth and Matt Swarmer struck out two in the ninth as the Braves picked up two wins against the Twins today.
-Final Thoughts- Aaron Sanchez had another horrible outing this spring. He gave up seven runs on eight hits with two strikeouts over three innings. Matt Mullenbach had a 1-2-3 fourth, Danny Coulombe fanned two over two scoreless innings, and Brock Stewart gave up two runs in the seventh. Derek Molina put up a zero in the eighth. Kyle Garlick homered off Max Fried and had two hits. Mark Contreras had two hits as well. The Twins hit 1-for-9 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base. The Twins will head over to JetBlue Park tomorrow to play the Red Sox. Sonny Gray will face Chris Sale tomorrow afternoon.

Just a thought, no particular character in mind. Car sex can be very awkward, what if, after several knocked elbows and banged heads they fuck on the hood of the car
Rebel Yell (Sean Falco x Reader)
Word Count: 1370
Warnings: funny smut. Yes funny.
A/N: Some nights Sean can really take you for a ride
You and Sean stood side by side at the valet stand. There were nights the wait staff had to fill in when either Derek or Sean couldn't show. Most of those times, you practically threw yourself at Nino when Falco was alone.
Now the two of you danced around each other. You would find any excuse to touch him. To brush those unwieldy curls from his forehead. Laughing awkwardly at his ridiculous jokes, mostly puns. The way his very existence reduced you to a giggling school girl.
Sean was a bit more blunt when it came to flirting. Boldly asking you out, which you deflected every single time. Openly staring down your shirt. Which you ALSO deflected. Never really understanding why you played hard to get when all you wanted to do was drown in those green eyes.
Then one night..
“You know one of these days, Sean Falco, your constant cell phone use is going to get you in trouble,” you teased him while trying to look over his shoulder.
Sean shrugged you off but kept tapping away at a rapid pace. A smirk played across his lips. You held your chin in your hands as the boredom took over. A buzzing from the stand took you by surprise.
Next car that comes around that corner, we're taking for a joy ride. Then we're gonna park it on some busy street and hash out this obvious chemistry we've got.
Your face flushed as your heart began to race. Then a second buzz.
Only if you want.
You looked up and out towards the busy high street, “Or it can get you in trouble tonight.”
The next half an hour was quite possibly the longest of your life. Not one single car even attempted to pull up to the curb. People came and went, having parked on their own. You stood together in awkward silence for the first time since the two of you met.
“T’ere’s always my car,” Sean’s Irish accent filled the night air.
You snorted without meaning to, “I've seen your gaudy Texas State orange car. It is one violent sneeze away from falling apart.”
Sean rolled his eyes before scratching his forehead. “Fine. My flat or yours?”
“Me go home with a handsome Irish stranger? What kind of woman do you take me for?!” You feigned shock.
“COME ON!” he clasped his hands together like he was praying. “I'm not above getting on my knees and begging ye.”
“While you’re down there, my shoe needs to be tied.”
Without a second thought, Sean knelt down in front of you and began tying your shoe.
“Sean! What are you doing?”
“You said ye needed your trainer tied.”
“I was being sarcastic, you bloody potato.”
“Ooo Ethnic slur. I love it. Do another!” He gazed up through the curly bangs. “Honestly I’m just having a bit of a cheek. I don't want anyone t’ever t’ink I'm pressuring them te have sex.”
“I'm not pressured. I'd love to come over to your place after work.”
Sean with his fingers stroking yours behind the pedestal. You linked them together as the breath exhaled heavily from your lungs. You bit your lip as he let his hand linger on your thigh. He traced slow circles down to your knee and back up. You simply stared at it, feeling a bit wanton already.
It took ten more minutes before a car came. A stunning. 1976. Cherry. Red. Corvette pulled up to the curb. A couple you certainly recognized tossed Sean the keys without a second thought. Billy Idol still blasting from the speakers.
“Don't worry dude. I've got three more at home.”
Your mouths dropped in unison. “Sorry darling, I'm gonna have sex with this car.”
“Only if I can watch,” you simply whispered.
From here on you felt somehow outside of your body as Sean made sure the coast was clear. He opened the door for you before bending over to stretch his arms on the hood of the Corvette.
“YOU FUCKING BEAUTY, YOU!” he shouted gleefully sliding in the drivers side.
As you left the restaurant, on for a bit of a joy ride, Sean started to sing along with the music. You couldn't help yourself as you raised your shirt over your head. Then lifted your hips to slide out of your work pants.
Sean glanced over and nearly wrecked. Righting the wheel instead of going up over the curb.
“Steady on, love. Let me catch up.”
“I don't know if we’ll have much time for foreplay before you finally decide to park. Just making it a bit easier,” you shrugged and covered his hand on the gear shift. Then tugged it towards your bare thighs.
“Fuck,” Sean muttered.
Still he allowed you to push his hand between your thighs. His fingers teasing the thin fabric of your panties to elicit a wetness. You opened your legs a bit wider so he could dip them inside of you. They slipped easily inside and out before he had to use both hands to park the car just past one of the busiest intersections.
He left the car on while frantically undoing his jeans. He bungled the job of taking them down over his legs and knees as you climbed to yours in the passenger seat. You reached under the seat and released the latch so that Sean was suddenly flat on his back.
“Right t’en,” his voice sounded like bells. “On top.”
In your eagerness to relieve yourself of your panties and straddle Sean, you knocked into the dome light. You covered your face with one hand as you freed your body with the other. Sean laughed. Asked if you were ok. You were fine the words came out. Then you were on him.
You sank down on Sean’s erection, one knee on the arm of the door. The other crushed into the center console as you started to rock back and forth on him. Your hips colliding equally with the steering wheel and Sean's body.
Sean's movements were frenzied. He squeezed your ass and rolled with you. Using his hands to find a rhythmic pattern of pulling and pushing. He was so lost in you riding him, that the hard thud of his elbow into the gear shift caused him to jerk forward. It was just Murphy’s law from there.
Sean jolted upwards from reflex. You slammed back into the steering wheel. The curve of your back laid on the horn, scaring the two of you a second time. A mass of arms and legs and various stages of two naked bodies crashed into one another. Your knee painfully wedged between the seats; you contorted with Sean still inside of you. Your twisted body twisting his cock as well.
“Holy fuck! Sweetheart, that's attached,” he reminded you gently.
You whined momentarily. “I know. Sean this isn't fun. I mean it is, but it isn't?” You struggled to free your leg from its prison. You came undone and nearly managed to knee him in the ribs. “I have a fat ass.”
“You have a lovely arse,” Sean informed. His face buried in your cleavage.
“SEA NNN STOP!”
“What? I'm sorry. We’ll stop.” He made to help you off of him. He slammed his other elbow into the driver’s side window.
“I meant being so fucking.. YOU,” you whimpered.
“I'm not ALWAYS nice.”
You settled back in the passenger seat and pulled your shirt on. Sean leaned sideways and kissed you sweeter than he had the right to. Then he noticed one of those fake Mexican blankets in the back seat. He held it up with a clear thought on his face.
“Wrap this around waist and get out of th’car.”
Sean wasn't suggesting. He was telling. So you did, sitting just on the hood of the Chevy. The blanket was like a mock skirt as Sean spread your legs this time. He hooked your foot around his hip, your other anchored on the front bumper. You didn't remember holding your breath, but you felt the air rush from your lungs when Sean buried himself up to the hilt inside of you.
Sean growled in your ear as he began to plow into you. That good pain as his pelvis crashed with yours. The hood of the car bending and popping under the weight of your bodies coming together and apart repeatedly. The way Sean cut into you; made his hips rut in a circular motion with breakneck speed. Your body somehow relaxed before you both, shockingly, came together.
"How's that for gettin’ in t’trouble?”

SENSES AND OTHER ODDLY SPECIFIC HEADCANONS TAGGED BY: @youhavemyrespect TAGGING: free for all :))))
1. WHAT DOES YOUR MUSE SMELL LIKE:
Chalk, sage, cigarette smoke, lime and juniper (when he’s been drinking, mostly), but also something deeper and more primal to those who can sense it. Ozone and old temples, dragon’s blood and freshly turned earth. Generally considered his magic reek, becomes heightened during certain times of the year but especially around Halloween. Many that can smell it have called it utterly intoxicating.
2. WHAT DOES YOUR MUSE’S HANDS FEEL LIKE:
Soft and warm, slightly calloused at the fingers tips and sides of knuckles from drawing for hours at a time some days. Overall, they’re very nice. He hasn’t worked a conventional job in his life so he avoided wear and tear from compulsory handwashing and general labor.
3. WHAT DOES YOUR MUSE USUALLY EAT IN A DAY:
It depends, honestly. John can’t cook and usually eats out or orders in. He has a preference toward Indian and other Asian cuisines. John doesn’t eat much meat, but it’s not a hard or first rule. If he has the luxury not to, you know? I truly can’t go into any specifics or regularities because he doesn’t take care of himself and doesn’t have any regular eating patterns from day to day. Sometime he’ll wake up get breakfast, maybe swing by the store and buy hummus and pita for lunch, and treat himself to some vindaloo in the evening, and spend the night at a local pub. Other days he’ll barely eat if at all. Realize two days late that he’s famished. He’s a mess, honestly.
4. DOES YOUR MUSE HAVE A GOOD SINGING VOICE:
Depends on who you ask. John doesn’t have much of an opinion on it, and generally thinks it sucks. Personally, I feel it’s more knee-jerk sefl-deprecation. ‘Nah, mate, I was shite.’ Peronally in my head he tends to sound like Dave Vanien and maybe later in life closer to Nick Cave. Because I love my deep voiced spooky boys with the sonorous voices singing from the depths of their graves.
5. DOES YOUR MUSE HAVE ANY BAD HABITS OR NERVOUS TICKS:
He smokes like a chimney but aside from that, I feel like there’s a certain eeriness to his composure and stillness. Years of dealing with creatures that are painfully powerful, terrible monsters, cruel, bitter gods, has made him highly accustomed to schooling his body language and features to convey both neutrality and a kind of cocksure confidence as though to say ‘I fucking dare you’ as he banks on a reputation both earned and built upon hyperbolic rumours.
6: WHAT DOES YOUR MUSE USUALLY LOOK LIKE / WEAR:
Dark suit (either black or dark blue), tie (properly cinched, ta so very much), usually solid colours, though occasionally red and white striped, white button down or some other pale colour like blue or pink, dark oxfords flats, usually a bit worse for wear, tan trench coat/raincoat, sometimes a black, shorter coat that might be vinyl? (Idek Sean Murphy draws him in this coat and the colouring has the visual coding of a shiny fabric, and it kiiiiinda fits with my vegetarian head canon so idek). Messy hair, frequently stubbled jaw, but I don’t think he’s...slovenly. It’s very trendy now to portray John with a perpetual five o’ clock shadow, but if you refer to the art in the Vertigo series, he’s predominately drawn clean shaven so. I mean. *gestures* Although, I’ll also freely imagine him to one of those guys that has a fast growing beard like he should probably shave a couple times a day.
7. IS YOUR MUSE AFFECTIONATE? HOW MUCH? HOW SO:
Yeah, but it’s a thing that he’s had to struggle with over the years. He grew up with very little affection. Like, yes, Cheryl did what she could, but I think as he grew older, and started acting out more, not to mention her leaving home first being considerably older than John, I think he could be hard to love and frankly still is. So he’s terribly affection hungry and I do believe his promiscuity is part of it. Like, listen, he’s a handsome, charming man, and for him it’s easier to connect with his sexuality more than vulnerable sincerity. Not to say he isn’t ever able to emotionally connect. I think that comes part and parcel just as well. Hey, have I mentioned he’s a mess. He’s just the mess of contradictions in so many ways. He’s guarded, he’s vulnerable, he’s lonely, he’s a loner, he’s hard, but deeply empathetic and kind (I said what I said). All that being said when he is close to someone, when they are intimate, and it’s deep and loving, then oh yes, he is extremely affectionate.
8. WHAT POSITION DOES YOUR MUSE SLEEP IN:
Side or back, when with someone, he usually sleeps tucked up against them as some kinda spoon.
9: COULD YOU HEAR YOUR MUSE IN THE HALLWAY FROM ANOTHER ROOM:
Depends on if he wants to be heard.

BRUISED KNUCKLES (.6k, bryn)
bryn picks fights and looses. AKA a first look at bryn’s life before aelwynne and even before the incident that had her accepted to the academy in the first place.
Bryn tried not to wince as her mother pressed a liquor-soaked cloth to the cut on her cheek. The smell of alcohol was acerbic and the split skin hissed and seethed. Each time she blinked, a pulse of pain shot rippled from the already-bruising skin around her eye.
Mum looked angry. Or disappointed. Probably both. Her features remained relatively impassive, but the subtle twitch to her pursed lips, darting eyes, and creased forehead gave her away. Bryn struggled to keep eye contact, rubbing her thumb across her red, aching knuckles.
Finally, her mum spoke. "First Sean Murphy and now the Donelly boys?"
Bryn shifted again. The Donelly brothers weren't boys anymore. A year and a half older than her and leering after her and Eva, who was four years younger than them. It made Bryn's stomach turn.
"You can't get into a row with the boys in the middle of the street just because they said foul words to you. You're not young anymore." She continued chiding.
"It was Eva, Mum. They were saying it to Eva." Bryn insisted.
Mum paused and Bryn met her eyes. She could handle being scolded, but she wasn't ashamed of her actions. Even if she only got a few good punches in before they ganged up on her, it was well worth it and hopefully, it would dissuade them in the future.
Mum's lips tightened, pressing together before she spoke sharply. "Well, Eva knows what to do. Hold her head up and ignore them. She knows better than you and you're her sister. You're supposed to be a role model, love. What am I supposed to do if Mannix goes into town and starts throwing rocks at whatever git found him playing hide-and-seek?"
She leaned in closer, brushing the cloth over Bryn's eye to her forehead. She scrubbed at another wound. "You're lucky those boys didn't take out a knife and cut you."
Bryn's shoulders sagged. Her younger brother was a good kid. He wouldn't do anything like that. But if he did, it would be because she wasn't watching him close enough. Bryn watched the coals in the hearth glow a few meters behind them. Finley Donelly's words ran through her mind again. Much rather spent a romp with Eva than you Bryn, least she has good-. She had reared a fist back and clocked him in the temple before he got another word out. She wished she could've raked his face with hearth-hot coals.
"Are you listening to me, Bryn?"
"Sorry, Mum," Bryn mumbled.
Her mum leaned back, laying the cloth on her lap. Seemingly, she was satisfied with her assault on Bryn's injuries for now. Her arms crossed and her hazel eyes seemed to stare Bryn through. "Right you should be. If you keep going like this the families of those boys won't buy from us."
Bryn grimaced, feeling guilty. She shouldn't be a burden on her family. Her mum leaned forward, clasping her shoulder. The gesture caused Bryn's body to sway. Mum's expression softened and she rubbed Bryn's shoulder in assurance.
"Help your father with the eggs in the morning and tell me if any of your cuts start getting pus in them. I don't want you getting an infection just because you think you're tough and don't like getting your cuts cleaned up." Her voice was tender now, less ire, and more worry.
"Yeah, I will."
She seemed satisfied. "Good. Now off you go." Bryn nodded and rose, her sore muscles flaring with pain. She trudged forward through their home, back to the door. Maybe she'd find her brothers and sister behind the henhouse playing. "Oh-" Mum called after her, "Apologize to those boys tomorrow, won't you?"
Bryn paused, her hand tightening on the door's handle. She bit her lip a bit to keep the indignant shame subdued in her chest before she opened the door. "Yes, Mum."
#ch: bryn#aes: bryn#mine: writing#here u go gang come get ur bryn lore#also this is the first time ive written any prose in like..#Long Time. Very Long time.#i don't hate it but it's kinda rocky and i gotta get back into practicing writing more lmao

the ultimate list of comic book recommendations
Hello and welcome everyone! So if you don’t know, my name is Meg, and I happen to be an avid comic book/graphic novel reader and collector (even though I often write in a more fanon universe). So I thought for this post I would compile some of my favorite books for y’all.
I’ll categorize these, but don’t be afraid to try something completely different that what you’ve read before! And for new readers, this list can be a great way to find out where to start. So with that in mind, here’s the list!
DC COMICS
“So I like Batman but I don’t know where to start!”
Batman: Year One by Frank Miller - A classic detective Batman Story; a great starting off point for the character and comic books as a whole.
Batman: The Dark Knight Returns by Frank Miller - Another classic, highly rated comic. Features an older Batman and introduces Carrie as Robin.
Batman: The Long Halloween by Jeph Loeb - My brother’s favorite. Gripping from start to end. More detective Bats.
For fans of darker/more artistic/”different” Batman stories
Batman: White Knight by Sean Murphy - Batman “bad”. Joker “good”.
Batman: The Black Mirror by Scott Snyder - Bats and Joker in an unlikely, drug-induced team up. Some of the best art in Batman.
Batman: Hush by Jeph Loeb and Jim Lee - Big fan of both writers. Very popular book in the fandom, but I’ve never personally read it (recommended by my brother).
For fans of Robins
A Death in the Family by Jim Starlin and Under the Red Hood by Judd Winick - pinnacle Jason stories; also for those looking for Tim Drake’s introduction.
Robin: Reborn by Chuck Dixon - Ignore the awful cover art; this is Tim Drake done right.
Red Robin by Christopher Yost - Hard to find this series in a physical copy so just read it online. Defining Tim Drake in one series *chef’s kiss* beautiful.
Super Sons by Peter Tomasi and Patrick Gleason - The best Damian out there in my opinion, plus the addition of the always adorable Jon Kent
Ensemble
Justice League by Geoff Johns - Say what you want about n52, but this is the best JL out there (don’t fight me on this). Great for beginning readers.
Kingdom Come by Mark Waid - Alex Ross is simply the best comic artist out there. This one is a classic, but probably shouldn’t be your first rodeo with DC.
Brightest Day by Geoff Johns - Again, not for beginning readers; requires A LOT of background knowledge. But amazing characterization despite the hoard of characters it features.
Justice League Dark by James Tynion IV - Ugh I just love Zatanna.
DC Bombshells by Marguerite Bennett - The best damn DC AU ever made
MARVEL COMICS
Must Read!!
Vision by Tom King - Quite literally a modern masterpiece. Just, ugh, if you take anything away from this list, it’s go pick up Tom King’s Vision. Don’t like Vision? Doesn’t matter go pick up Tom King’s Vision-
Street-level heroes just trying their best (my favorite kind of comics)
Hawkeye by Matt Fraction - Hands down my favorite comic series of all time. Perfect characterization of Clint and Kate. Pick these up before the Disney+ series comes out :) Cannot recommend this enough.
Ms. Marvel by G. Willow Wilson - Actual ray of sunshine Kamala Khan will take over your life. Follows her coming to grips with her powers as a POC teen who needs to balance school, home, and hero life.
Let’s hear it for the ladies!
Captain Marvel by Kelly Deconnick - Liked the movie? You’ll love this. So much heart and humor.
Dark Phoenix Saga by Chris Claremont - I got my copy signed by Claremont and almost cried. First comic I bought with my own money; has a special place in my heart.
Jean Grey by Dennis Hopeless - What can I say? I’m a Jean stan forever. A nice pick-me-up after DPS. Features a young Jean in the wrong universe.
Spider-Gwen by Jason Latour - Liked Spiderverse? Boy, do I have the comic for you.
Misc and Third Party
Watchmen by Alan Moore - Simply a masterpiece
Space Riders by Fabian Jr. Rangel - A fever dream from start to finish, in space. Amazing artistry.
Umbrella Academy by Gerard Way - Speaks for itself. The show is too damn good.
WHAT I’M READING NOW!
The New Teen Titans by Maru Wolfman and George Perez
Batman: Last Knight on Earth by Scott Snyder
DCEASED
Teen Titans: Raven by Kami Garcia

RWRB Study Guide, Chapter 8
Hi y’all! I’m going through Casey McQuiston’s Red, White & Royal Blue and defining/explaining references! Feel free to follow along, or block the tag #rwrbStudyGuide if you’re not interested!
James I (203): James I/VI (First of England, Sixth of Scotland) is known for both translating the Bible and being just... so, so incredibly gay. The book mentions that he promoted a dumb jock to gentleman of the bedchamber, but it leaves out that 13-year-old James would just make out with dudes in public, and that the dumb jock (George Villers) was James’s third serious adult relationship. His friends introduced him to George because his last boyfriend was bad for the kingdom.
George Eliot (205): Mary Anne Evans wrote under the pen name George Eliot to escape the stereotype that women could only write romances. She wrote seven novels, of which Middlemarch is the most famous, known for their realism and psychological insight.
Daniel Defoe (205): A pioneer of the English novel, Defoe wrote Robinson Crusoe as well as a series of divisive political pamphlets and tracts.
Jonathan Swift (205): Irish political writer most famous for A Modest Proposal, a satirical piece that suggests cannibalism of infants as a more humane response to the British treatment of Ireland than letting them grow to starve in adulthood.
Dickens... “woman who languishes away in a crumbling mansion wearing her wedding gown” (205): Charles Dickens wrote stories concerned with the lower classes. This quote in particular refers to Miss Havisham from Great Expectations, who was left at the altar and refused to take off her wedding dress or even put away the food set out for the wedding.
Sense and Sensibility (205): This is probably Austen’s second most popular novel (after Pride and Prejudice); it follows the four Dashwood women in their move to a new home following the death of Mr. Dashwood. Like most of Austen’s novels, the opinionated narrator follows the women through a series of romantic mishaps, culminating in a happy ending.
Green American Money (206): Fun fact, British money is blue and orange and purple and all sorts of fun colors! It also all looks different, because (at least in Scotland) four banks are allowed to print pound notes, so there are four different designs all in circulation.
Sean Hannity (206): A conservative American political commentator.
Harvard rowing (206): Rowing is like... the bougiest of sports.
Pleiad (206): In Greek mythology, the pleiades were the daughters of the titan Atlas who became stars following his entrapment under the earth. They are remembered for their beauty and loyalty. Myths of the missing pleiad explain why only six of the seven stars are visible to the naked eye. According to some sources, the missing pleiad is Merope, who was shamed out of the sky for her relationship with a mortal.
Minute Maid Park (206): The baseball stadium associated with the Houston Astros baseball team; it seats just over 41,000.
Politico (207): An American political opinion news source.
Drop-kick Murphys (208): An American Celtic punk band. (listen here and here)
The Klan (209): The Ku Klux Klan, an incredibly racist organization that has been responsible for the lynching of thousands of people of color.
Kim Nam-June (210): Kim Nam-Joon, known as RM or Rap Monster, is the leader and rapper of the K-pop group BTS.
Milwaukee (211): The largest city in and main cultural center of Wisconsin, which is a “swing state”, meaning that it could go either way politically in a national election.
Seth Meyers (211): An American talk show host and comedian whose creatively titled show, Late Night with Seth Meyers, is liberal-leaning. He hosts celebrities and often chats about politics or the news.
Clear Crystal Quartz (211): Apparently the most “iconic” crystal, it is believed to be able to help with clarity and the achievement of goals.
Wimbledon (213): The oldest tennis tournament in the world, considered by many to be the most prestigious.
Royal Box (213): The royal box at Wimbledon is a section of the best seats, reserved for royalty and specially invited celebrity/politically powerful guests.
David Beckham (213): A former professional soccer player and current fashion icon known for being hot and wearing nice suits.
McQueen (214): Alexander McQueen was an openly gay British fashion designer who rose from a lower class background to become one of the most famous designers in the world. Though he died in 2010, his brand continues to be known for unconventional fashion shows and theatrical imagery.
Dashikis (215): A colorful, ornate piece of clothing somewhere between a shirt and a tunic originally from West Africa.
Orangery (218): A very large greenhouse or conservatory designed for growing orange trees.
Woman at her Toilet (218): This painting shows a woman in her bedroom putting on her socks with a little dog next to her; you can see it here.
Baroque bed* (218): Baroque art was designed to show off a monarch’s power; it is incredibly extravagant (Versailles is pretty much the iconic Baroque thing; you can see more about it here).
The Killers (219): An American rock band formed in the early 2000s and known for having donated over $1 million to charity (they did “Mr. Brightside”). (listen here and here). According to McQuinston’s twitter, the song Henry plays is “When You Were Young”, which you can listen to here.
Dred Scott (219): In the 1857 Dred Scott v. Sandford case, the US supreme court ruled that the constitution did not extend to or protect Black folks.
Nina Simone (219): An American singer/songwriter/political activist whose music spanned a variety of genres and whose activism focused largely on the civil rights movement and was largely influenced by her “friend” Lorraine Hansberry, a Black lesbian playwright. (You know Hozier’s “Nina Cried Power”? She’s Nina) (listen here and here)
Otis Redding (219): Considered one of the greatest singers in American pop music and was one of the foundational soul artists in the US. (listen here and here)
Brahms (219): A German composer known for sticking to more classical forms of music while his contemporaries often leaned toward more dramatic or opulent styles. (listen here and here)
Wagner** (219): A German composer who wrote both the music and the librettos for his operas; his works tend to be very complex, and he has been credited with beginning modern music. (listen here and here)
Romantic (219): Artistically, the Romantic movement was a direct response to industrialization that called for a return to and celebration of nature. Queerness was very much a part of this movement, as it was seen as a return to or celebration of one’s natural state (think Byron).
War of the Romantics (219): A music history term used to describe the split between conservative composers like Brahms who wanted to stick with the Baroque, opulent styles of the past century and radical progressive composers like Liszt, who favored newer styles that blended music with narrative and morals.
Liszt (219): A Hungarian composer known for a diverse body of work and his position as the leader of the radical progressive group in the War of the Romantics. (listen here and here)
Alexander Scriabin (219): Russian composer known for his atonal or dissonant music. (listen to the piece Henry mentions here)
Elton John’s “Your Song” (219): A song written before Elton John came out, but with his queerness in mind. In a 2013 interview, John referred to it as “a perfect song”, and that the lyrics (written by Bernie Taupin) got even better as he got older and sang it more. (listen here)
Consecrated (220): made holy.
DNC (221): The Democratic national conference, when members of the Democratic (liberal) party get together to prepare for a presidential race.
College Republicans of Vanderbilt University (221): Vanderbilt University is a private (and therefore more expensive) school in Nashville, Tennessee. Its location in the South and its price tag would both mark it as being more conservative.
Cage match (221): A type of wrestling match that takes place inside a steel cage; the most common way of winning is by escaping the cage, usually by climbing over the top.
Paul Ryan (222): A conservative retired politician and former Speaker of the House.
The Second Amendment (222): The second amendment grants Americans the right to bear arms (have guns).
Salon (222): An American news and opinion website with a politically liberal editorial stance.
Air Force One (222): the president’s plane
“My Canadian girlfriend” (223): A running joke that someone (often a high schooler) whose partner goes to another school or lives somewhere else is made up.
Five Guys (225): Five Guys Burger and Fries is a popular fast food burger chain across the US.
Vampire Weekend (225): An American indie rock band.
The general (226): the general election in November, when Americans would vote for their president
Plainclothes (226): out of uniform
The Beekman (226): A very fancy hotel in Lower Manhattan, near the Brooklyn Bridge.
NATO (233): the North Atlantic Treaty Organization; an intergovernmental military alliance between 29 North American and European countries.
----
*every time I read this, I flinch just a little bit. Baroque architecture is just... so much, and the concept of a Baroque bed when beds/bedrooms are supposed to be simple to help you rest... It’s just so much and I hate it with all of my being. I’m sorry if you like Baroque furniture, but especially for Henry, who dreams of a simple life where he can just write and be anonymous... It’s a big yikes.
** Literally no one asked, but his stuff is just... it’s so boring? Like I’m sure it’s great to fall asleep to or calm down to, but I tried to listen to it while I wrote this and I just couldn’t. Liszt is better, but he’s no Mozart. Also? Mozart wrote BOPS. ONLY. “The Birdcatcher’s Song” slaps and no one can change my mind on that.
----
If there’s anything I missed or that you’d like more on, please let me know! And if you’d like to/are able, please consider buying me a ko-fi? I know not everyone can, and that’s fine, but these things take a lot of time/work and I’d really appreciate it!
