Amity Blight Loves the Night - A Lumity Oneshot
Summary:
“If it’s affecting you like this, it’s not nothing,” Luz replies, still cradling Amity’s face in her hands. Amity looks up and she feels like crying again, because oh, how Luz looks at her. Like Amity’s her entire world. But Amity doesn’t deserve it. She was terrible to Luz when they first met. How in the world can she look at her like that?
~~
In which Amity Blight has a hard time adjusting to the human realm, but her girlfriend is more than ready to listen to her.

Hi sorry this chapter made me insane actually but God now I'm just thinking about what if Odalia actually did try to come down to castle to try and undermine Amity and screw her over. I don't know if she would because Odalia probably trusts her ability to manipulate Amity back into her good graces even after this but
God if she did tho. Imagining her getting an audience with the Empress, telling her that it was all Amity's idea, pinning the blame all on Amity for being such a foolish child seeking to take the easy path to success rather than truly working for it. And Luz just.
Is Not Having It.
Thinking about Luz pulling that All Powerful Imperious God Queen Mask down over her face like it's the easiest thing in the world and calling Odalia out on her bullshit. All ending with the only reason that Luz is letting Blight Industries continue, the only reason she's not banishing Odalia from her Empire and the Titan entirely for trying to use her daughter to worm her way into gaining influence over /Luz's/ Empire is because Amity asked her not to.
"So, say 'thank you' to Amity. And get out of My Sight."
GOD. you're right this is delicious. imagining luz didn't overhear the conversation and amity went into "i can handle this myself" mode instead of being like heyyy, um, luz.... there may be..... A Prawblem.....
OR if amity DID tell her & instead of banishing odalia from the castle, luz was like. heehee. she can come <3
i gotta dig up that old ficlet of luz putting the fear of god into odalia. would love 2 see it again with this. "oh nooo, my daughter is ingratiating herself to you under false pretenses, so sad đŸ„ș" while luz is just giving her the Watching-Belos-Die stare. hunter in full uniform in the background not moving at all and somehow still managing to radiate "can i kill her. can i do just ONE murder without due process. just one. so quick. so quick so fast luz pls. luz i'll even clean it up pls luz luz luuuuuz-"

Since you write for TOH and write for Character!readers too, can I request Luz, Amity and Hunter with an Angel dust reader? I saw the one you wrote for a Stolas reader and I was hoping if you could do this too.
Hello! Yes that's right! Thanks for the Request
(I JUST KEEP SOME TRAITS FORM ANGEL OF THE PULOT BC LETS BEING HONEST, THE CANON ANGEL SHOULDN'T BE LET NEAR CHILDREN)
Luz Noceda, Amity Blight and Hunter with a Angel Dust Reader
Genre: Headcanons
Reader: male
Warnings: Reader has a horrible family life so acts like a jerk to cope, it's not a excuse thoug. References to toxic relationships on both sides, fluff-comfort.
Luz Noceda
Luz was probably the second to interact with the reader. just sharing a table in the beast handling class.
reader specializes in controlling small animals and insects, mainly arachnids.
so OBVIOUSLY Luz was VERY interested in it right away.
However, it was quite difficult to interact with the reader.
not because he distanced himself from people, at all, but rather that he used extreme...methods to get attention.
like using a giant spider creature to tie someone to the ceiling for example (and refusing to let them go for the rest of the week) or stealing things from other people's cabinets with small spiders.
and of course, there was the reader himself.
He acted extravagantly and exaggeratedly, but Luz could tell that he really just wanted attention, no matter if it was positive or negative. It made her sad.
so she decided to be his friend!
They're like Angel and Charlie fanon basically.
The reader goes to the owl house when he wants to get away from his own family, to the pleasure of Luz and the concern of Eda.
He is partly a bad influence friend, but more than anything because he doesn't know better (or rather his own family doesn't want him to improve no matter how screwed up he is).
Luz teaches him more about empathy and respect, so he tries to apply it to certain situations that he finds favorable. and to a certain extent it works, he no longer messes with the students like before.
READER.LOVES.A.KING. She tickles him, she holds him like a baby, she makes him spider-themed clothes, she finds him so adorable!
Luz sees this and KNOWS that there is something good with reader, it is a fact.
Luz is also very protective of the reader when it comes to her family or certain relationships that put her in trouble, she won't think twice before getting in front of the reader and taking out the glyphs.
and Luz also defends him from those who still hate him for his bad jokes or previous attitude. He is learning and improving, but really appreciates the extra help.
although he still needs help to know that it is not just a project for Luz and that they are still friends:'(
Imagine the reader speaking in Italian (context: Angel from the pilot is from the Italian mafia) and Luz speaking in Spanish togetherđŸ„șsome words are similar, so it would be fun if they spoke a strange mixture to tell inside jokes without anyone understanding(Eda is very proud).
Luz and reader have definitely pulled a few pranks on Hootie in retaliation for eating some of reader's pet spiders (may they rest in peace) and have a good time.
Hootie no but that's another story lol
reader is definitely the guy who makes Luz THIS FACE 😏 when he notices her crush on Amity and collects information about her as if he were the fucking CIA and the FBI TOGHETER.
he's a surprisingly good wingman lol.
Overall, it is a very healthy and sweet pair.
Amity Blight
oh boy...
probably the one who first met the reader.
and even A LOT OF POTENTIAL as he could.
since the reader's family is full of gangsters - I mean, BUSINESS MEN, so it wouldn't be strange to think that Odalia would be interested in their... services.
and thanks to this Amity has interacted with the reader since they were both children. both with their different demons to deal with.
On the one hand, Amity had her toxic mother and absent father, but at least she had her brothers as allies...sometimes.
That was the first thing she noticed as a reader.
He doesn't have ANYONE.
His brothers reject him, his father hates him and his mother does not even figure, he is alone against them, against the world.
He and Amity identify with each other and become "allies" from a young age.
not friends, just allies.
allies for when the other needs something, whether socially or...in other things.
I would say that while Amity is a bully, reader is a mean Girl. and who Amity genuinely likes, since they understand each other in more personal ways.
Thanks to this, the reader has more immunity to his practical jokes and even Amity finds some of them funny when they are directed at the right person.
but eventually Amity matures, and so does the reader, and they begin to see each other more closely, because if there is anyone who knows what they go through, it is the other.
Amity fears being rejected, yes, but it is something that the reader also feels, they both demonstrate it in different ways. one seeking approval, one seeking attention.
so Amity tries to make it clear to the reader that you don't have to be special or fall into a category to get attention, you just have to be genuine with it.
They both definitely go to the library to relax, I don't think the reader reads Azura but he listens to Amity rave about her.
Amity will also probably suggest that the reader get a job there so they can be away from their family. like her.
The reader, even with all her flaws, makes it clear to Amity that she doesn't have to be outstanding either, in fact he likes her more when she's a book nerd or when they're out of school, when it's THEM.
Amity definitely goes straight to violence when the reader's family tries to hurt him :)
They are definitely both divas when they are together.
I can see the reader being that friend who helps you choose an outfit, and does that with Amity constantly (or helps her dye her hair)
They both match lol.
The reader likes Amity's palisman, constantly putting it in a bag and walking it (much to Amity's concern).
When Amity goes through the situation with her family, you can bet that reader has an army of spiders after him as he breaks into Blight Industries😅
and he is also the one who cheers the loudest for Amity in the fighting tournament.
in general, two children from dysfunctional homes being functional with each other💜
Hunter
definitely the one who met the reader last.
and probably by the time he had already settled into the Hex squad group.
or else..
Let's say they met when the Flyer Derby happened. reader decided that he would give Willow a hand because he couldn't find Luz or Amity (and thanks to his familiarity with spiders, he can imitate several of their movements IN THE AIR very well).
and Hunter knows him like that, like a teammate.
Similar to Vainy, Reader relies primarily on defense, but uses something...peculiar.
"SPIDER SHOTS LOSERS HAHAHAHAHAH"
Yep, he can basically launch spiders like they were projectiles.
Hunter must have been like "look at that potential"
although in general everything was half ruined when he wanted to make them have the secret of the emperor's coven and all that...
The next time the reader saw Hunter was in Hollow Mind, because he was at Luz's house.
He definitely laughed at how Hunter was talking to FlipjackđŸ€Ł
but when Luz and Hunter returned from Belos' mind, reader could SEE the trauma in Hunter's eyes, the PURE FEAR.
and he felt...bad for him...
Let's say that thanks to this he is one of the quickest to accept Hunter into the Hexquad, not only because of his genuine repentance, but because he reflects a little of himself in him.
and Hunter is no stranger to this.
When Hunter asks the reader why, he is honest, telling him how he used to do exactly the same thing as a defense mechanism, hurting others to feel better, to satisfy others...
...and they still hurt you and leave you behind...they make you feel worse about yourself...
Hunter can relate this to Belos, but realizes that the reader goes through this with his own family and also empathizes.
Both are a strange duo, Hunter alternates between being the most intimidating to being the one who protects the reader tooth and nail (for a change)
Hunter definitely has trouble understanding reader humor, but he thinks her spider-themed outfits are incredible.
low key, he envies her ability to sew, but eventually they both embroider things to pass the time and do bonding.
Without realizing it, Hunter begins to adopt some humor to joke with his reader😅 everyone fears for their lives.
The reader definitely teaches Hunter certain mechanisms that help him in a healthy way to manage trauma and panic attacks, whether it is mind fullness, breathing, physical exercises, lists, etc.
reader LOVES Flipjack and you can bet he makes him clothes (and he also makes clothes to honor him when what happens happens :')).
FOR GOD, READER HAS TO TEACH HUNTER FASHION SENSE.
I think they could even both do sparring or play flyer derby when they're very bored, or the old cabar un oyo, boy stuff.
In general, Hunter empathizes with the reader on another level, and both work based on that. a good pair of friends without a doubt :3

Among the Hidden/The Shadow Children was one of my favorite book series as a kid
The country experienced a mass famine and is still recovering from it years later. To reduce demand a law is made that forbids any family to have more than 2 children. Adults found to have broken this law will be severely punished as will the "shadow child(ren)" be via imprisonment or death
While remembering the plot of the book I thought of The Owl House and the Noceda family.
Camila and Manny had wanted a child yet it seemed like that wouldn't be case until one day they stumble upon a box by the side of a busy road. Inside was a baby boy with copper-like eyes. A third born child surely.
A horrible occurrence that was becoming more and more common ever since the Population Police formed. And yet it was a blessing to the Noceda family for that was how they got their son Hunter.
15 months later Camila is pregnant. She's going to have twins.
She gives birth in her friend Eda Clawthorne's home, a cabin in the woods. She has girls. Luz and Vee.
Now comes the dilemma. She could give up one twin and keep her adopted son or she could give up her adopted son to keep her two biological children. Those are the options the Population Police will give her. Well screw that. She's keeping her babies, all her babies.
On the other side of the country two teary eye-d blonde toddlers huddle together in the corner of the room. Though afraid they hold fast onto the 2 month baby held between them. Despite their young age they glare through tears at the source of their anger and tears. Their mother.
She moves closer to their sister and they scream. She raises her arms the boy roars. She touches the baby the girl bites her mother's hand.
Shuffling and mumbled apologies can be heard from behind the woman.
Odalia Blight looks at her baby daughter in her arms. 2 months old and she had costed her 2 million dollars. Forced to hang up with yet another client when Alador couldn't stop her crying.
Why hadn't she stopped her pregnancy when she could have? Or put her in an orphanage yet? Well first of all she did have love for the child. When she learned she was pregnant she felt excitement and eagerness. She was happy as was Alador.
Also the child proved to be an incredible motivator for the twins. Why Emira's first sentence was her wanting to play with her. And Edric was seen teaching the babe how to take of pants. Withholding Amity was also a great punishment for the twins. Biting Daddy? No bath time with Amity. Not staying by Mommy's side while at the store? You don't get to wake Amity from her nap.
They were also fiercely protective of her.
"Emira, Edric, do you remember what Mommy told you about if anyone finds out about Amity?" they nod their heads.
"Bad"
"Yes, very bad Edric. And why is that?"
"...Amity goes bye bye."
"Exactly Emira. If anyone finds out about Amity she will go away. Forever. That's why Mommy's upset because someone almost heard her crying."
"NO!" they get to their feet and hold onto their Mommy's legs as if to protect her and Amity from the bad people who would take away their Amity.
"Don't worry my darlings Amity is safe. But do you think you could help me and Daddy with something?" two pair of hazel eyes peer up at her. Tears gone eyes now curious.
"Can you try to keep your sister calm when someone is in the house? Or when Mommy is talking to the screen?"
"Yes yes yes!"
"Yes Mommy!"
Odalia Blight is a very pragmatic woman but the pros of keeping her forbidden child far outweigh the cons. Motivated children who will now do their part to help keep Amity a secret. A happy husband. Another heir to the Blight company. And another child she can love and cherish.

Hiya, Smokey. I was slightly miffed by COTH and had a small change that I wanted to hear your thoughts on. So, minty bitch Odalia, instead of knowingly helping Belos with genocide, she didn't know, and when her family tell her, she's shocked. But instead of joining the heroes to stop it, she's now focused solely on making sure the Blights survive, making her still a horrible person, but slightly less. What say you?
Yeah, I'd easily prefer that.
Odalia's character was amplified in COTH (as was Alador's in a different way), and while I understand why they did it that way, oooh boy does it bug me. It's really the only plot point off the top of my head that I'd willingly change, and I get why--I get that the cancellation screwed everything and someone's character would have to suffer for it---but both Odalia and Alador irritate me in that episode, and I think your idea for it could've been better.

time to rank muse sizes!
Bow (aka blob) weighs in tonnage instead of pounds , swimming in fat the walls to his room are gone as his sea of gluttony has soread to the teo rooms adjacent to him
Kikimora , lighter than bow by a decent margin but she’s short af that weight S P R E A D S to the point where just like blob she spills into other rooms but doesn’t fill them like bow
Double trouble at full size when they’re blobbed out they weigh more than kiki by a small margins and are able to fill a room now!
Zeena another case of shortstack width , she’s been bound to her room for ages , only member of the palace to have an onlyfans just to boost her ego
Cala maria , sure she takes up a fuckload of space but if she was shrunk to normal size she’d be one of the smaller blobs
Odalia blight another full embrace of the feedee lifestyle , she demands to be hand fed and as such actually has robot attendants made by entrapta , odalia is a major roomfiller with heavy tits and those pixar mom hips actually begining to crack the walls of her room .
Tracer , her ass alone counts as a bed her pear shape is one of the most visible in the whole palace given her torso does give the impression she’d be pretty thin . Only cartoonishly pear shaped girl in the palace
Grusha , after he got stuck in doors he just submitted to blobdom , he’s bed breaking but still fits in his room properly
Cosma , she can grow and shrink at will , which is sorta cheating but she can be a micro blob so it’s a win .
Lord domminator the last of the roomfullers , she’s fully given into this blob lifestyle , it’s impossible to tell where the gut ends and the ass begins with a yoga ball sized rack and chuns a plenty to use as pillows
Android 17 another mega pear , his gut and ass take up 50% of his bedroom and provide quite the view when he flies or is by a window he’s one of three muses still mobile as blobs
Polly! Technically weightless but her tits alone are about the size of android 17 she’s only this low because she’s technically weightless
Looma , still restrained in her room with chains that she’s totally into , her heft is suspended two feet in the air yet her gut still touches the ground , pancake stacks of folds covering her arms and rocking the quadboob look looma if allowed to fully spread on the floor would cover about a quarter of the room .
Scorpia still mobile but leaning into heavy blob , her thickened hips destroy normal couches snd make the reinforced ones creak , her musclegut has no rival , the only strongfat left in brightmoon
Shadow weaver , bedbound and spoiled rotten she’s fully embraced blobdom and it shows with her slobby tendancies and bed filling gut
Sombra , her spying mission quickly got screwed by entrapta , she’s been bedbound for a while now but is one of the smallest overall
Kiriko , orginally tracer’s feeder who quickly got addicted to snacks , she’s become blobby and horny as hell about it , very gut heavy with chins to match , her chest is still mostly flat .
Coral @bigfatglimmer the queen is one of the smallest blobs but with her weight changing on a whim from magic anons or her own spells she can fit near the too of the list if she desires .
Angella , her royal titty queen is borderline blob still mobile and still very active her bust covers counters entirely but the rest of her heft while impressive is nowhere near that size .
Entrapta , the only non blob remaining she’s still as thin as she was in canon!

you know, we never actually learned how an everlasting oath manages to keep the person to hold up their end of the deal seeing as neither amity or luz really won their duel and then amity undid the oath. so like, wouldn’t it be interesting if it just like, didn’t work on humans.
and wouldn’t it be real fun if when luz goes to strike this dangerous deal with the blight parents that they make her take an everlasting oath as well, only for her to eventually realize she literally doesn’t have to keep up her end of the bargain, but because they’re witches they absolutely still do have to do their part so she just runs outta there before they can undo it.

I like how this episode explored Edric’s feelings about being a screw-up. It was so easy for Amity to just assume that her siblings had everything effortless, that it all came naturally and that they didn’t have to suffer nor work for things; And for Amity to believe the twins were completely self-assured in who they are.
But even Edric, who has done better on exams than Amity, feels like the incompetent one here. And it just goes to show that the twins and Amity were never that different, if at all; They all had their own equally valid and meaningful lives and struggles that they had to deal with. After all, this same episode Amity really starts to realize just how hard and painful it is for Luz, whom she inevitably admires as another effortless person, who never has to worry about what others think of her; How else is she so confident?
Tumblr media
But just as Luz is hiding things, so are the twins. Amity doesn’t really have to spruce up her appearance, but the twins aren’t naturally photogenic like she is. And maybe it’s only because Amity has another wave of hormones coming her way when she turns sixteen, but the point is that these ‘superior’ older siblings have to work for things that Amity doesn’t. So even her brother thinks he’s the child who doesn’t do as well as the others.
And I’ve already speculated on Emira feeling like she’s the loser of her siblings, as the one who has to play support and take care of them, getting left behind while Amity and Edric have their dedicated development. Eldest child syndrome is a burden after all... So when the twins have THEIR valid issues, it’s easy to see how they grew to resent Amity as the child their parents focus on, and/or for making things harder by tattling, just because the twins seemingly have it easy as a double standard and she doesn’t!
Tumblr media
Like... The grass (or rather, hair that Odalia doesn’t need to dye) really is always greener on the other side. And obviously I’m not saying this to invalidate struggles (the opposite, actually) nor deny the existence of privilege. But all three kids are part of the same family and social standing here. We can always take it for granted that people have their own issues, that their lives and accomplishments aren’t as perfect nor easy to them as one may think; Especially when the twins are all about illusions and thus very conscious about cultivating a carefully-curated image. Especially when Odalia is concerned when it comes to her children.
It’s just really neat to see the Blight kids have their solidarity recognized; They’re not enemies and shouldn’t be. They’ve been pitted against one another by their parents into thinking the other has it better, has better treatment; But you really can’t compare and that’s not fair. These siblings are in this together, and I love this development from Lost in Language, which introduced the idea of Amity having siblings, and continued on her thread of blaming peers for the fickle recognition of older authorities.
Tumblr media
And on a final note/epiphany I had while writing this... Wow I didn’t realize that additional similarity between Luz and the twins; Appearing to be effortlessly themselves but actually having much more self-image issues than one would believe. Amity’s initial dislike of Luz was paralleled by her dislike of her siblings after all; I guess Luz really reminded her of them!
But just as she turns around to and becomes fond of Luz, Amity rekindles her relationship with her siblings and comes to appreciate their support and respect their side of the story, too... Even as this same episode, we get a glimpse of how the twins struggle (Amity sees firsthand their concealment stones they give to her in support and solidarity), all while Amity and the audience see just how hard it is for Luz!

I just had an insane idea.
So, one day, just a little after Luz and Amity have started dating, Odalia strangely asks Amity to invite Luz over for tea.
Of course the two are extremely suspicious but decide not to comment on it and see what exactly Odalia's game is. So, they go.
"Your mom wouldn't actually try to poison me!.....would she?"
"......I'd take very smalls sips from your cup."
For a few minutes Amity, Luz and Odalia just sit in silence, tentatively sipping from their teacups. Then Odalia suddenly asks
"So, human, what exactly are your intentions with my daughter?"
Amity is immediately annoyed.
"Mother!"
But Luz suddenly starts talking
"Well, I'm thinking we date through high school and college-Do you guys have college here?-then I'm thinking we get married with an Azura themed wedding and invite all our friends and family- except you and Mr Blight, your both kind of awful- although I'd have to figure out how to explain to my family the whole "marrying a witch thing" and-."
"Luz!"
Luz suddenly seems to realize what she's saying and slaps her hands over mouth.
Amity glares at her mother.
"What did you do?!"
"Oh Mittens, it was just a simple truth potion. I figured that you seem to find this human so fascinating that I'd have to see what you saw in her. Of course, I couldn't have her lying to me, that just wouldn't do."
Smiling smugly Odalia walks over until her face is inches away from Luz's.
"So human, tell me....what exactly makes you think your good enough for my daughter."
Amity stands up.
"Mother that's enough!"
"What? I'm curious. This girl comes here and puts all these little rebellious ideas in your head, causes so much chaos, and even seems to think herself good enough to date a Blight. So I'd like to know what makes her so smug to think she can."
Odalia slaps Luz's hands away from her mouth.
"So tell me human. What's exactly makes you so special that you think your good enough to even consider dating a member of my family?"
Luz tries hard not to speak but eventually she finally chokes out "Nothing. "
Both Amity and Odalia's eyes widened.
"Wha- Luz what do you mean?
Tears begin to fill Luz's eyes.
"I don't think I'm good enough for Amity. I don't get why she wants to date me. I barely understood why she wanted to be friends with me. I've screwed so much with her, that when I found out she actually liked me back I..I thought it was nuts. Why would she? I honestly don't think I'd ever really be good enough for her."
Amity is completely shocked and looks at Luz sympathetically. Odalia gets over her own surprise and meanly chuckles.
"Well, at least you know your beneath us."
However, Luz then says "But...."
Odalia raises an eyebrow at her. "But what?"
"But she seems to think I'm good enough. Despite all the trouble I caused her, she saw something in me. So I figure maybe if I'm with her, maybe I might start to see that in me too."
Amity can't help but smile hearing this. Of course, Odalia scoffs.
"Ridiculous. "
"No mother, what's ridiculous is you dragging us into this stunt. Come on Luz."
Amity takes Luz away despite Odalia's cry for them to come back.
"I'm sorry I said all of that. We shouldn't have done this."
"It's okay. Most of my talks with my parents have ended with me walking away from them lately. And you were wrong you know."
"About what?"
"You've always been good enough for me."
"Aww. Thanks."
"But just for the record, we're not having an Azura themed wedding."
"Fair enough."

On the topic of Luz trying to find every ethical legal non-murdery way she can of messing with Amity's parents.
I'm just imagining her staying up at night, trying to think of *evil plans tm* to mess with them (she's being very serious about it, note book on the bed like she's a normal teenager doing normal homework and all) but when she gets Hunter to double check her ideas he is grossly disappointed in the most loving and positive way because he knows how Luz is.
Hunter was hoping for burning down the factory or throwing them in prison on trumped up charges. But he looks through it and it's all relatively reasonable legal reforms.
Stuff like workplace health and safety laws (with inspectors instructed to place Blight Industries under constant scrutiny), shifting the tax burden to wealthy over the poor (with perhaps slightly obsessive auditing from the BI version tax office) ending the contract to buy murder robots from them to cut off one of their key sources of income. Raising the minimum wage and granting workers significantly more rights. Passing a law singling them out by name giving Darius the power to shut them down at any point for inspections if he deems their products to be of poor quality.
Odalia and Alador (mostly the former) only really care about prestige, power and wealth, and Luz wants to hurt them by taking all of that away in a way only a wise and beloved ruler can. Just pulling out all the stops a reasonable-ish government can to screw over a business empire and erode its reputation in the eyes of the public. Whilst avoiding all of the dictatorial associations of just having them disappeared.
Imagining what might happen if Amity finds this notebook, she doesn't say anything, she just adds more notes on other laws and ideas that would burn their fortune to the ground.
(sorry if this is too long and rambly)
this is hilarious. hunter is like "i can't believe you aren't even Blackmailing them" and luz is like "it hurts more to strip their power in broad daylight." hunter's like "these are all legitimately good reforms. but if you wanted to be evil you could just arrange an 'accident,' you don't have to be moral about it" and luz is like "why would i kill them. if they're dead then they don't get to see their empire crumble"
hunter, raising an eyebrow: i see you're feeling Really Normal about belos today.
luz, swatting at him: MY DESIRE FOR SUFFERING HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH HIMMM >:( LET!! ME!! BE!!! EVIL!!!!!

The Owl House, Season 2, Episode 20, "Clouds on the Horizon," First Impressions!
In this season’s penultimate episode, I have two things to lead off with.
First of all, “Crikey!”
Second of all, kinda pissed off right now.
Well, with that click-bait lead-in out of the way (I’ll explain later), in our second to last “normal” episode (thank you, that one unnamed Disney exec. Thank you so much for gutting one of your best shows. Really appreciate it, bud!), here we have something that serves more to accelerate things toward our big climax rather than to sit alone as its own story, but there is still a lot to dissect and talk about.
So let’s start with the main focus here today: the Blights.
Odalia
Ah, the snobby narcissistic parent, a tried and true character type. I mean, every show directed toward kids needs a hate-sink, right? And as awful as he is, Big Bads like Belos are often too cool and too unrealistic to properly hate. So we add in a side-villain that is more just infuriating.
Odalia is that. I always pegged her as a Mr. Northwest type, and this only hammers it home, from her valuing the family name over the actual members of her family to her abusive control over her children (that necklace has a lot of parallels to that bell Mr. Northwest used to control Pacifica, just sayin’) to her treating her marriage to Alador like a business deal rather than a relationship. Like, what is going on? They were childhood friends! Surely there had to have been an actual relationship at some point. But here we have Odalia straight up threatening to change their “deal” and firing Alador instead of divorcing him!
And oh yeah, she knew the truth about the Day of Unity. She was fully prepared to aid in genocide in exchange for her family. No, wait, it wasn’t to spare her family, it was to give them power and station in Belos’s promised new world. It was completely out of greed.
Well, you know what they say!
That having been said, if I do have one criticism for this episode, I would have appreciate just a short moment of pain and regret from her family after she split on them instead of them seemingly not caring. I know she’s a terrible person that they’re better off without, but she was still their wife and mother, and those sorts of feelings are complicated. Like, I criticized the She-Ra finale a bit for how Shadow Weaver’s exit was handled, and I stand by a lot of what I said, but I did like how upset and confused Adora and Catra were because of it. It’s just an extra layer of emotional realism that could have made the moment feel more impactful.
Anyway

Alador
There’s been a lot of talk about Alador and how he fits in as a Bad Parent. His initial introduction as being someone who is clearly fed up with Odalia’s bullshit and would rather be pursuing his interests endeared him to a lot of people, but that doesn’t change the fact that he was neglectful and dismissive to his kids’ needs, and he was complicit in Odalia’s abuse. Yes, the reveal that she was threatening them to keep him in line adds a new layer, but that doesn’t automatically give him a pass.
But while he has screwed up, he at least is now trying, and he definitely isn’t as bad as Odalia. Finally realizing how much he has failed (in part thanks to a cute little pep talk with King), Alador is now doing the right thing, even if it costs him everything. And, hey, might be quite a bit overdue, but I’m getting the feeling that he was Odalia’s first abuse victim, so him standing up to her for his children’s sake is a huge step toward his personal redemption. And also toward everyone not dying.
So hey, good on you, buddy!
Now you gotta just deal with the fact that you’re now on the side same as Darius. Oh please, let them interact! I want to see this pettiness play out!
Amity
Our little Mittens is all grown up!
For years she’s had to mold herself to meet her parents’ expectations. For years she’s put her own wants, own needs, and even own identity aside just to be Odalia’s perfect little daughter. For years she’s allowed herself to continue the toxic cycle, becoming an arrogant bully to squelch her insecurities, and never allowing herself to just be the good person she wanted to be.
Luz changed all of that. Luz showed her compassion, acceptance, and love. Luz held her accountable for her mistakes, but also didn’t reject her for them. Luz showed her that she was someone worth loving, and that she could be a better person.
We’ve seen her steadily work on that, seen her turn away from her toxic behaviors and relationships, seen her work to make amends for her poor treatment of others, seen her confront her own insecurities, and come out the better for it. Her relationship with Luz has lifted her up and helped them both, well, help each other change for the better.
And now she finally confronts the source of all that toxicity, the source of all those insecurities, the source of all of that unhappiness.
Her own mother, Odalia.
In a way it was a coming out moment for her. Perhaps not in the traditional sense, as not even Odalia fucks with homophobia, but for her to finally stand up for herself and say no more. And in doing so, she finally got the full support of her father, whom she takes after the most.
Again, I would’ve liked to have seen more inner turmoil. I know they were in a rather harrowing situation and didn’t have time to really process things, but I do hope that Amity, Alador, and even the twins are given the space to process being betrayed by Odalia.
Eda
I’ve wanted to give Eda a hug many times these last few episodes.
Eda’s only weakness has ever been those that she loves. Nothing else has ever gotten her down. Even with her own impending petrification, her only thought was taking care of her kids. And now she is willing to make yet another massive sacrifice: her own ability to use wild magic.
Or will she?
I mean, she obviously believes that to be the case. But I’m willing to bet that she gets an out, whether it be because defeating Belos renders the sigils powerless, or maybe she’ll just detach that arm completely, breaking the sigil’s hold over her. I mean, her detachable body parts have kind of been forgotten lately only to suddenly come back. I wonder if that is the case

King
Poor dude. My guy just learned that he’s basically a god, and people are still treating him like a little guy, even the other kids. I mean, they’re not wrong, but it can’t be great for his self-esteem.
However, he still has his own part to play. I’m better that he’s going to start talking to the Collector through that bond they now have, maybe even convince him to turn away from Belos. The Collector seems to be pure chaotic neutral rather than actively malicious. I mean, he gets a kick out of evil, don’t get me wrong, and he certainly has no reservations about participating in what amounts to mass genocide for funsies (and as a way to escape whatever prison he’s in), but he strikes me as being more amoral rather than “evil,” if you get my meaning.
So what I’m saying is that he strikes me as someone who can be convinced to make a turn. Let’s see if our little Titan is the one to do it.
Luz
An egg.
Well, I didn’t see that coming. It’s a nice sentiment, though we still have to wait to see what it ultimately ends up being. Bat, cat, otter, or snake are still the popular choices.
Also, while I did catch “Luz” suddenly using Hunter’s flash step and wondered where she had learned that from, and while I was confused about Hunter blowing a raspberry at Kikimora, I somehow didn’t put it together that they had switched places until it got revealed. I wonder why they specifically made that switch, though. Or rather, I wonder why Luz wanted it to happen. She wanted to be captured and taken to Belos. But what can she do? What’s her game?
A couple of minor notes before we move on to the main event. Firstly, you know those rather strikingly designed wild witches that got captured for a couple frames?
Tumblr media
Yeah, those guys. I’ve heard it speculated that this might be a cameo of the creative crew, but as it turns out, they’re actually K-Pop artists that one particular storyboard artist is a fan of and wanted to include, which is really sweet and dorky. So hey, K-Pop is canon to the Boiling Isles!
They're everywhere...
Second, Kikimora mentioned Belos having eyes everywhere. People have taken this to mean that there’s a traitor in the CATS’ ranks, which very well could be, but may I offer up an alternative theory?
Tumblr media
Maybe when one of your enemies controls plants, don’t take one of her plants as a trophy? Just sayin’.
Well, okay, now that we’ve gotten all of that out of the way, let’s talk about the real reason people are talking about this episode.
Tumblr media
Guys, gals, and nonbinary pals. We got ‘em.
Yeah. This was quite lovely.
So why am I pissed off about it?
Well, the reason is quite simple. See, I planned to watch this episode during my dinner break on Saturday evening, and made sure to unfollow the Owl House subreddit to avoid spoilers. And yet someone still saw fit to post the screenshot with no spoiler tag to a completely unrelated subreddit that I also follow, and someone else uploaded the clip to youtube almost immediately, and since I watch a lot of Owl House videos the almighty algorithm saw fit to throw it up on my feed! So I got spoiled twice.
Damn it! Like, when I got spoiled for the Catradora kiss, at least I couldn’t be mad because the season got dumped all at once so when I finally got around to it the episode had been around for several days! But the same day? Guys, please, don’t do that!
Well, whatever. The kiss itself was still wonderful, and you can tell that they put most of the animation budget into this moment (as they should have). I needn’t tell you what a huge moment this is for kids’ television, to have this plainly depicted and be seen. I’ve watched adult lesbian women start crying because of this moment, because they didn’t have something like this growing up, but kids who are like them will. They’ll be able to see themselves on screen, to realize that what they feel is okay and normal, and that they don’t have to hide from themselves.
There’s been a lot of speculation of whether or not Lumity is the reason that the show got gutted, like what happened to Steven Universe. If so, then there still is clearly a lot of work to do. But Korra finally cracked the door open and many shows since have been steadily pushing it wider and wider. Things are getting better. Voices are being heard. And while there continues to be resistance, the momentum is against them, and I for one am so eager to see what new shows come walking in through that door.

I'm glad the twins being jerk faded away and now they're playful but supportive of their baby sister
Okay this is a point and I’m very happy about this too but like
I also sincerely hope Amity stopped tattling on her siblings because Emira said “please don’t tell mom” twice after helping Amity out (in both Escaping Expulsion and Looking Glass Ruins). And like “don’t throw us under the bus after we helped you” should really go without saying, but it does not because Amity screwing the twins over in hopes of getting equal treatment has shaped their relationship for a while.
I’m not saying the twins didn’t go too far in Lost In Language, they absolutely did, but I think it’s important to keep in mind that they weren’t just jerks to Amity for the sake of being jerks. They were jerks to her because Amity constantly threw them under the bus. The prank in LIL was them attempting to get her to stop tattling on them. They say that in the episode.
And I rarely see this part of the relationship addressed by the fandom. It’s always “oh the twins are such jerks” and “oh thank god the twins stopped being jerks”, which yeah, but
 this thing wasn’t one-sided.
To be fully clear, all of their behavior was all caused by their parents’ abuse, and Alador and Odalia are the ones who should be held accountable. But the point stands that there’s a huge discrepancy here. The fandom has a tendency to point fingers at the twins for being awful siblings, while completely glossing over the fact that Amity kept tattling on the twins to their abusive parents.
I’m glad the Blight siblings are working on their relationship and learning to move past at least some parts of their respective toxic mindsets. I really hope they can get to a point where Ed and Em can trust Amity and not be scared that she might use whatever they say and do, including occasions where they help her, against them.

The Wrath of Odalia
Hey everyone, So this is gonna be the first of a few theories I have off the back of “Through The Looking Glass Ruins”. They will likely be uploaded every so often across the course of this week but one of my immediate reactions to yesterday’s episode, is how will Odalia react to Amity’s new hair?
While this may seem like a small detail, Amity’s hair is one of the things in her life that Odalia has actively controlled. She makes Amity dye her hair as she like her children to be colour-coordinated. I mean even Edric points out that Amity is gonna get into a lot of trouble with Odalia. Also despite all the help the twins have given Amity recently, it is evident even they fear Odalia as in “Escaping Expulsion”, Emira tells Amity to not tell Odalia they helped her. And once again, Emira asks that Amity not mention her involvement.
And here is something, I think Amity is a very important piece of Odalia’s future plans. Blight Industries specialises in abomination magic and if they want to keep the business in the family, once Alador can no longer do his job one of the Blight children will have to takeover. Amity is the only Blight child who specialises in abomination magic. If she rebels against her family, Blight Industries will be screwed.
This ties further into my fears about Odalia. Amity is now taking on these acts of rebellion against her parents, she is becoming a happier person and she is not willing to hurt others to get ahead. Something Odalia has no qualms about when she literally tried to kill a child in “Escaping Expulsion”. Amity’s acts of rebellion represent Odalia losing further control over her all important daughter who will keep Blight Industries at the top of it’s game.
For awhile now I have had a suspicion Amity would be disowned, but after “Escaping Expulsion” I don’t think that will happen as Amity seems far too important. I see things between Amity and Odalia blowing up big time, but I feel like this will be Odalia trying to reassert her grasp over her daughter which could have potentially awful consequences. I mean Odalia in order to control Amity, has a tendency not to go for Amity herself, but for the people Amity cares about. Willow and Gus and especially Luz. So I feel like that is coming.
And the Blights are such an influential family and bare in mind the contract Blight Industries now has with the Emperor’s Coven, it feels like no matter where Amity is in the Boiling Isles she will not be able to escape her parents. When Luz mentions showing Amity around Earth, Amity seems to get a new resolve into helping Luz find that diary and as much as part of it maybe so she can spend time with Luz, I think another thing going through her head was, “On Earth, I could escape my parents.”
I rarely make end of show predictions this early on, but regardless of the future of Lumity I feel very confident in saying I think the show will end with Amity running away to spend the rest of her life on Earth. Even if Emperor Belos is deposed, I don’t think Odalia will ever give up on trying to control Amity and her life. Where better to go to escape her parents than a strange new world full of 7.6 billion people, one where her parents are nobodies with no influence.
I hope you enjoyed this theory and feel free to like, comment and reblog 😊

Just a random thing that comes from rereading too many of @sepublic’s analyses on the blight family dynamics.
But Amity is put under immense pressure. Like totally soul crushing should not be put on a child pressure. No one should expect their child to be so perfect and Amity is clearly feeling the effects of this as she never thinks she's good enough and needs external validation by people like the system that would never care for her as an individual.
But I was thinking of the twins and the pressure they may be under too. Like we are told in Adventures in the Elements that they are naturally gifted. They can skip class and still get the top scores so they probably don't have to study too hard. And of course, Alador and Odalia would like that because it's representative of how powerful the Blights are, and so it would make them the golden kids to Amity's "screw up."
Besides, we know Edric and Emira aren't exactly ideal Blight children. They dislike authority, they're troublemakers yet their natural talent probably allows them to keep golden child status. But  I imagine, a bit angstily, that they know that. That without their natural talent, their parents wouldn't love them. Well maybe it wouldn't be that bad. But the Blights strike me as people that act love as conditional and that mistakes would make someone unworthy of being loved or some sort of horrible crap like that.
Imagine what would happen if they weren't able to do something so naturally. Like after the third try, they still can't get the spell right. It ruins the one thing they pride themselves for, natural talents. Have to study? Have to work and practice their skills.. why that makes them normal, makes them like Amity. And we know how their parents treat Amity.
So the twins live knowing that if they lose their natural talent in things or temporarily lapse, that praise would disappear since unlike Amity, they aren't obedient and pliant enough to make up for their loss of talent.
I imagine that's also why they were so unnecessarily harsh with Amity for telling on them. They mostly get away with their "golden children" image because their parents don't know about their pranks. Then Amity tells on them, reminding their parents of how their personalities clash with Odalia's control freak tendencies. That thin line that only their natural talent protects them from being cast aside.
Another sort of angsty thing is that I think the twins also want validation. They're golden children to be sure. But Alador and Odalia have high expectations, they probably always set the finish line farther, that even if one completes one accomplishment, now you have to go after the bigger, better goal. It's never enough.
So while I think Odalia and Alador encourage maladaptive and unhealthy competitiveness between the siblings with Amity comparing herself to them and wanting to beat their high scores, and them...I'm not sure how they'd be jealous of her. Maybe dislike how Odalia and Alador praise Amity for being so good and obedient.
But that while Odalia and Alador may mention the twin's achievements to Amity to rile her up. I don't think they actually praise the twins when they do achieve something significant to them. That it would be met with a "It's to be expected. You better continue to get As."
There's no pride. There's no celebration. Just expectations for them to continue their streak. Thus continuing the pressure to remain naturally gifted.
And they're jealous that when Amity gets something like top student at least there's some surprise, praise for her to keep going. They don't get the same praise. At least not from their parents.
Because honestly I think as much as they pretend not to care, they do. If they really didn't care why not be obvious about their troublemaking. Why bother with their grades and retaliating on Amity for ruining their golden child image. Why not embrace all the way and disgrace the Blight name because screw the rules and their parents.
But they don't go that far. They show off their natural talent, they keep the golden child image, because they're still kids. They don't want to be cast out of their parents' favor entirely. They still want their love. Or at least the closest they can get to it.
