hello, i'm equinox! happy pride month! i'm a disabled intersex trans lesbian who is stabilizing after 6 months of homelessness! i sell jewelry in my ko-fi shop as well as zines and paintings, this is my primary form of income as i am too disabled to work a 'formal' job. i deal with psoriatic arthritis, fibromyalgia, hypermobile ehlers danlos, schizophrenia, bipolar disorder and other health conditions. i am struggling right now due to the very high temperatures in my area. if you can help, it would mean the world

Cool concept this bottle cap jean chain! Love new diy concepts though this one definitely seems like a challenging one with all the drill holes and jump ring connections but still possible :3

are you worried about being perceived as a poser in your local punk scene? My biggest tip is to not shove yourself into the little box of what you think a punk should be. The culture of punk should be diverse, that’s what makes it beautiful. You want to go to a show wearing all pink and cute dresses? fucking go for it!!! rock it! if anyone says anything to you about “not being punk enough” they are full of bullshit and are definitely projecting their insecurities onto you.

“Run and catch, run and catch, the lamb is caught in the blackberry patch” 🪦
Custom repaint on a 2001 Drusilla figure from BtVS, with a little scene from a garden from the end of season 2 out of cardboard and paint. Featuring far too many individually glued tiny leaves & flowers, and a couple digital drawings decoupaged on the outside.

I think the commercialization of alternative fashion and watering down of subcultures is so sad.
No, you don't need doc martens or tripp or London fog to be "legitimate" these pieces can be really cool looking but imo are best tret as inspiration.
No you aren't too poor to dress alternative I'm sorry you were made to believe that. These communities were built by the outcasted and impoverished. Any clothes can fit the subculture. Its about intent, wearing what you like. Following the morals and ideals associated with the subculture. Being passionate about the art, design themes and/or history. Imo the floral bedsheets turned dress are far more in line with these subcultures than the extremely expensive designer brand name dark and studded clothes.
Diy, modify, innovate, don't be afraid to have something turn out bad. Don't let anyone enforce their weird standards on you while participating in a movement meant to be a place for those rejecting standards placed upon them. Don't fall victim to consumerism, or attitudes designed to make communities rip themselves apart.
*if this is phrased weird or overly rambly, I'm not the most awake rn tbh

“grunge shein codes” “goth shein codes” “punk shein codes” i rly hope you know all of those subcultures will laugh in ur face. they’re literally anti-establishment, anti-capitalism, anti-consumerism, anti-corporate greed, & sm more. punk is literally based off DIY ethics 😭. anyway. thrift, shop second hand, estate sales or yard sales is the way to go. fuck your shein codes.

so you’re finally going to your first punk show. it can be a little intimating for sure! here is what i tell my newbie friends when i take them to their first show:
1. take it at your own pace. start the show at the back of the crowd, if you’re vibing and feel the need to jump around get closer to the mosh
2. the mosh is a lot less scary than it looks. it really is a bunch of people just wanting to move around. There are times where it can get violent. if you feel overwhelmed at all just push (don’t feel bad, you might even need to shove a little, nobody will care) your way through the crowd that is encircling the mosh.
3. if you see someone on the ground in a mosh, PICK THEM UP!!!! not only to keep them safe but for your own safety as well, moshing can get a little disorienting (especially if you are drinking or smoking) so you might not even see them. along with this if you see someone’s personal item, try your best to pick it up and hold it in the air. Essentially, if something or someone could get damaged, help them out.
4. a lot of the people there look really intimidating and cool. yes they are cool as fuck, but they are some of the nicest people on this earth right now. Talk to a stranger. some of the kindest people i’ve met and become friends with i met at shows.
5. don’t be afraid to be yourself. don’t feel like you match the “punk aesthetic” you see on tumblr tiktok and pinterest? who give a fuck!! the most punk think you can do is be yourself. if you fake who you are people will notice.
reblog with more tips!!!!

Behold, The Meme Jacket
Tumblr media
This jacket arrangement position is called "LOOK AT MY ARMPITS."
Here's a close-up of the collar and lapels with the jacket laying normally:
Tumblr media
The snaps on the lapels hold them open, but can also be snapped closed, which is nice on windy days.
Here's the front of the jacket as it's intended to be seen:
Tumblr media
I was very particular about how I designed and arranged these: much like how the back only has color in the middle, I wanted to keep the bright colors to the center. The two brightly colored patches are meant to read like a two-panel comic, or some sort of call-response thing, whatever. The patches along the bottom are meant to read left to right, almost like a four-panel comic. (The Awesome Face patch is just there because it fit.)
What's not obvious from these pictures is that there are inside pockets, which connect to the zippered side pockets! I don't tend to actually use this feature very much, but it does make the pocket space hugely tall in there.
Another feature I don't tend to use very much is the zip-off sleeves. I think I've only ever taken the sleeves off once (plus a few times when sewing patches on, to make it easier to reach where I was working).
The googly eye buttons are holding up moderately well - I might need to replace one of the eyes by next year. If you're gonna do this yourself, you gotta put a metal keyring of the same size behind the googly eye! Wrap the keyring in a piece of fabric (I used the tubular bit from the bottom edge of a t-shirt), and sew it to the button band. Then, glue the googly eye onto the fabric with enough glue to also glue the fabric to the keyring. (I used superglue for this.)
All in all, it's been an incredibly fun project, and one that I get lots and lots of use out of! I'm sure I'll add to it at some point, but I'm calling its current state "done (v1.0)".
