dec 28 2024 new age doom show at grey lab in vancouver bc. Got to scream sing the for the last song which was fun :)! the drummer is eric, my producer whos helping me record my album., hes great at the bottom you can see the patches i made of him that were for sale at the show.
i danced the night away to them as well as doing a life drawing study just like the night before. my practice from the night before helped me get an understanding of the composition and shapes so it was easier :)
and thank you to sasha, yvrpunks from instagram for the videos and photos of me that nite :D

i don’t know who needs to hear this, but disabled punks, you don’t have to go into the pit to have a good time. don’t put yourself in an uncomfortable situation if you don’t think you’d enjoy it.
at the same time, let’s not judge disabled people who do want be in the pit! some people will actively choose to mosh knowing it might cause pain/a flare-up and, in the politest way possible, it’s really not your business. it’s their body and only they should get to make those decisions. i will always encourage being in tune with your own needs and not pushing yourself too far, but like everyone else, it’s a risk many take and accept when getting into the pit. a lot of us are gonna be disabled our whole lives. we should be allowed to do fun things too

Sappy appreciation post for local punk shows
Even though I have to be acutely aware of my surroundings as to not get hurt, when I’m at local punk shows I feel more safe and more accepted than anywhere else in the world. When you’re at a big stadium concert, everyone’s there for different reasons. Some people really love the artist, some people are just going bc they have nothing better to do. There’s always someone that’s singing too loud, or talking too much, or getting way too into your personal space. But punk shows are different. Everyone is there for the love of the game, for the energy. Friendly violence is encouraged, everyone knows what the deal is. And no one cares how you’re dancing, because everyone looks kinda ridiculous. No one is weird when everyone’s a weirdo. There’s a sense of camaraderie that I don’t think you can find anywhere else. There’s no separation between the band and crowd most of the time, ppl are encouraged to sing into the mic. It’s really like nothing I’ve ever seen before.
The scene as a whole, but my local scene especially, is full of trans people. I know as a trans person that I don’t have to be afraid when I’m in the bathroom during a show bc, chances are, the person next to me is also of the transgender variety. There’s a number of transgender women in the scene who sing in deep screaming voices, and they’re still respected as women no questions asked. Punks accept you as you are.
Going into shows, I expect that I’ll probably get hit when I’m near the pit. And often times I do. But when people who are moshing are able to see me, a physically disabled person with my walker, they almost always make a concerted effort to avoid ramming into me. I’ve had a number of complete strangers step in front of me to shield me from people ramming into me, complete strangers protecting me so that I could enjoy the show.
I’m not saying that punk shows are always perfectly harmonious, careless people and people with bad intentions are definitely out there. But I’ve found that the social barriers that so often rule our lives are completely torn down at shows. I love this scene and I feel lucky to be a part of it.

i need to go to a show so bad. i need to sit out in the grass and listen to the bands play from inside the house venue , i need to dance like i'm having a tantrum and catch flying elbows w my eye socket. i need the shawarma from next door, pizza from the guitar players day job, the rotisserie chicken from the kitchen of the house venue itself. i need the community, need to say hi to homies of the past and meet new ones every night,, need to watch the people express and enjoy themselves. i need it so bad .

Okay this is maybe not talked about as much. But a lot of local venues for the good music just aren't fucking accessible.
Like I have a favorite bar that often has punk, hardcore, and metal bands playing and it's a great bar!
It's also above a fucking restaurant the stairs are testing me and it's narrow as fuck as I maneuver with my cane or crutches, and if it's a day I need my walker fucking forget about it, there's no fucking elevator
There's like one local show a month that's at an actually accessible place and I try to hit up as many of those as possible! But I'm still constantly wanting more and since I love the local scene I just wish it loved me back even though I know that's not normal to expect

After the events of last night I've concluded that my new pocket needs snaps. Unfortunately I only have two backs and no fronts. Such is the life god has cursed me to.
