Friendly reminder that Izuku didn’t go charging into the fight with the slime monster until after he saw it had Katsuki
He was literally at his lowest point right then. Not one person in his life thought he could be a hero, and that day both Katsuki and All Might had made it clear to him that they thought it was impossible.
Izuku was horrified at his role in setting the slime monster free, that his own actions could cause harm to someone else, but he still didn’t go running into the fight until he saw it had Katsuki.
He knew his role. He knew it was the heroes job to save, not his. He stayed in his lane, observed, took notes, prepared himself to act, but he still never actually acted until he saw Katsuki in danger.
Only Katsuki’s safety would have driven him to do what he did. Yes, Izuku is heroic. Yes, he is hardwired to save others. But at his lowest point, no encouragement or validation or support from any corner, it was Katsuki being in danger that pushed Izuku to act when no one else would.
It had to be Kacchan.
#bkdk#bakudeku#it had to be Katsuki#Izuku wouldn’t have run in if he hadn’t recognized him#he was too firmly put in his Quirkless place#but when kacchan was in danger that became the only thing that mattered#he watched the scene for a while#saw the pros doing nothing#then saw Katsuki’s eyes and lost it#which I have to say is very on brand for Izuku

I don't see the issue in believing that your alters are multiple people or not, but saying that it's "anti recovery" to believe that they are is genuinely one of the most idiotic things i've heard. i don't see why it's a problem? i know so many systems who consider themselves multiple people, who are doing perfectly fine in healing, without needing to see themselves as just "multiple parts of one person". Alters can be so completely complex, they can be so different that you'd genuinely see them as completely different people, because they are different people to that system. This is coming from a plural who sees their parts more as just different parts of themself, by the way. Believing your alters are just multiple parts of one identity is completely fine, but claiming that it's "anti recovery" for others to believe that they're multiple people is one of the shittest things you could do. Just let people do what they want, there isn't anything wrong with that? I definitely see that systems can quite literally have what is basically multiple fully formed identities, fully formed people.
.
#our system despises the “parts of one person” bullshit antis like to spew to invalidate other systems#how another system views its headmates has nothing to do with them#i wish someone would tell us we're encouraging dissociation by seeing ourselves as separated individuals#like we will go off#mind your own damn system and not everyone else's for fuck's sake#hhm i usually see those “parts of one person” people talking about how miserable being a system is#maybe if they treated their headmates like people instead of pieces of people they wouldn't be so damn miserable just saying#i mean if saw myself as a person and some other headmate in my system kept trying to push that#im a broken piece of one person i would raise literal hell and make them hate life until they respect me#again antis need to quit saying what is recovery and what isn't#like shut up you're not the police of how systems work#pluralgang#pluralpunk#endo friendly#plural community#plurality#pro endo#mixed origin system#traumaendo#endogenic safe

oh my fucking god i can't believe this has to be said again but
DO NOT FUCKING POST ABOUT PROTESTS ON SOCIAL MEDIA
you could get people KILLED. posting about protests on social media HAS gotten people killed. people posting about the george floyd protests was the MAIN WAY PEOPLE GOT ARRESTED, HARMED, AND KILLED DURING PROTESTS.
don't tell people you are going to a protest. do NOT post about your protesting activities on social media. don't even TAKE your phone to a protest. you put people in REAL DANGER by doing that.
#p#protest#anti zionisim#free palestine#free gaza#palestinian genocide#i saw a post floating around about the times and dates and locations of pro palestine protests and i.#did we learn nothing from summer 2020.#do not talk about protests online

Pardon me but you clam that alicent tried her best yo protect the kingdom her children and rhaenyra by starting a war is ridiculous. You point her being a childbride to excuse every behavior of her, even the most stupid
she didn't want a war. she didn't want to be married off to a king, she didn't want to be queen, she didn't ask for any of it. when that life was forced upon her as a childbride, she tried her best, but it wasn't a life she was prepared for. over the years she tried so hard to balance being queen, being a mother, pleasing her husband, her father, her children, rhaenyra, her house, the court, the kingdom. she was doing it all the very best she could have.
if you believe she started the war, I'm not gonna sway you, but I think that that take is absolutely wild. Alicent was thrown into a family that was already on a collision course, and then was horribly mistreated, which only set the family further on said collision course.
Viserys caused the war when he had more children after Rhaenyra and did nothing to strengthen her claim or support any sort of unity between her and her siblings. he just neglected his kids, ignored them, and let Rhaenyra do whatever she wanted, ruining her image, which encouraged people to not want her to rule (mainly by looking like a threat to Alicent, who strived to protect her children).
Rhaenyra caused a war when she could not look past her own self interest and put everyone around her, even her own children, in danger (having bastards put innocent kids in a life that would be nothing but danger, judgment, whispers, and speculation. having both legitimate and illegitimate children put both in danger whether they fought among themselves or the masses preferred legitimate sons over bastards. she stole her stepdaughters claims to Driftmark then betrothed them to bastards which put them in danger). she destroyed her image and would do anything to keep up her house of lies.
Alicent didn't cause the war, she was just a player thrown in to it, and screw her for trying to keep her kids alive. the people around her created the war, it had been nipping at their heals, they made Alicent into a catalyst when Viserys forced her hand and forced kids upon her.
Stop. Blaming. The. Victim.
#I will say she was the catalyst for the war#but she didn't ask for that#she didn't make herself one either#she wanted her kids to be safe#she wouldn't have pushed for Aegon to be king had she though they could've been safe when Rhaenyra ascended#but she couldn't#Viserys failed Rhaenyra#Rhaenyra ruined her image and showed little ability to actually rule#Alicent saw doom coming to swallow her children whole in Rhaenyra's wake and did what she thought was necessary to protect them#but the war was inevitable#ever since Viserys The Do Nothing was made king#the Targaryens were doomed to fall. their house was weak they had made many less than friends and viserys did nothing to fix it#war was upon them#the way it played out put alicent at the center of it#but it could have been anyone had things been different#hotd#pro team green#alicent hightower#pro alicent hightower#anti team black#anti viserys i targaryen#anti rhaenyra targaryen#anti rhaenyra stans#anti team black stans

If I had a nickel every time of people saying Sasuke left Sakura during their child's birth and I had two nickels which isn't a lot but weird it happened twice (endlessly)
I'm getting really fed up with how people can be still so naive on SS mainly people of course 🙄 saying that Sasuke abandoned Sakura he f did not do you all not understand that he was a rogue ninja that he couldn't go back into his home town cause of his crimes he never stopped to care about Sakura or their unborn soon to be child if he wasn't an war criminal he would be right there by her side every minute
Plus hello Sakura did travel during Sasuke's exile so of course he does care about her and was there for Sadara's birth so he isn't an dead-beat dad to know the difference those types of dads never show care for the mother no was around at all during their time or child birth but Sasuke was
I get it that you don't want to enjoy SS but to ignore the very core of how and why Sadara existed in the first place it doesn't work that at all
#probably saw old comments#but this is majorly my thoughts lately#how im still seeing people bashing ss family#its like people nothing better to do#naruto#pro sasusaku#sasusaku#sadara uchiha#uchiha family#naruto fandom

glad to see that d3 vid made it to you as well because ohmigosh... i've watched it like 6 times already and it's still just as wild and good as the first time. like the way they all had an answer?? imagining them sitting around having conversations about who they'd like to marry on the team - not to mention the way babies were mentioned more than once. these kids are/have been on tumblr and ao3, they know what's up lol
(also side note one of the guys who said mason, he said it was bc mason was a good cuddler which sent me too - so you guys have cuddled. regularly. like WOW.) not even gonna talk about the one who picked his brother though wanting someone to do your taxes is so real
rotating "hopeless romantic + old school" in my mind, like what does that even mean?? flowers and chocolates and kissing you goodnight at your dorm room? does he pull out a chair for you before you sit down? idk, it was such a sweet and genuine answer
tldr i love them all and can we get more teams doing this please? i've never paid attention to d3 in my life but suddenly i need to know more
- @bondedpairs
every time i watch the video i just start laughing so hard, it brings me so much joy and i cannot thank kasper moregraceful enough for bringing it into all of our lives 🥺 *
AND now i get to pitch that i think everybody should watch more college/local hockey to have that type of joy all the time!!! tickets are usually pretty decently priced, you get your narratives right in front of you (my notes app has some. thoughts) and you get the same emotional attachment and watch your guys develop throughout their careers!!! a lot of the time you can find really fun social media for college teams in particularly because of student media programs but if you are not already an ahl watcher: may i recommend stalking their youtube channels. lehigh valley phantoms spelling bee videos are one of my favorite things in the entire world and the milwaukee ads have a lot of fun content too!!
#it’s called having an emotional support ahl fourth liner for a REASON#and the reasons are a multitude#how are you cole bardreau. i love you baby we can get hors d’oeuvres with dinner#hi bestieeeee 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰#anyway lol you caught me after going to said local hockey team and watching them smash god’s favorites 8-3 so i am evangelizing#did i watch them trip and slip slip around the ice yes was it so much fun also yes.#i love my wingies to death and my big teams but there’s also something super nice about being able to go to a game in person (and also saw#a post from the grizzlies [ten out of ten team you should follow them!!! they did a video like this asking who people’s valentines would be#it’s on my blog tagged with the utah grizzlies i think] with one of my guys who just signed there and i was like 🥺🥺 so. in the same vein as#me checking out a book abt minor league baseball that’s gonna break my heart i get really romantic abt semi-pro/pro/college hockey leagues#liv in the replies#ok now to what you actually asked which was like. RPF and to that i say: agreed and i was gonna look up Bryson and the team roster because#i am here for the goalie romanticism plot. i at all times think you should romance your goalie your goalies should be wined and dined#*UPDATE FOR EVERYONE I JUST GOOGLED THE ROSTER AND DO YOU REMEMBER HOW I WASN’T SURE HOW TO SPELL S(H)(E)A(W)N??? YEAH GUESS. G U E S S#I JUST LAUGHED SO HARD TEA CAME OUT OF MY NOSE I CAN’T BREATHE NOTHING COULD HAVE PREPARED ME FOR THIS. TRYING NOT TO WHEEZE &FAILING LIKE#SHJON. HIS NAME IS SPELLED SHJON.#also mason does not in fact have a roster photo. rip they were like actually… that’s our polygamous housewife… also mason already KNOWING#the joey voyles sugar daddy checks out btw. ALSO CANNOT BELIEVE THAT SETH SAID HE WANTED SHJON TO DO HIS FINANCES & SHJON’S THE ONE SAYING#YEAH I’D GET A SUGAR DADDY AND THEN THE GOALIE CALLS HIM A HOPELESS ROMANTIC??? WHERE IS *THAT* FIC WITH THE GOALIE SUGAR DADDY#OK DIJON MUSTARD BOY#anyway i want to daydream in the hopeless romantic + old school world with you… chin in hands kicking my feet giggling… making the goalie#take a magazine quiz with us to see if his crush (shjon) likes him back. mcelroy baby so many other guys would marry you didn’t you hear#AND NOW I NEED TO KNOW THE CORRELATION BETWEEN POSITION AND NAMING UR LINEMATES VS YOUR GOALIEEEE#gonna compile a list of facts about Mason that are just: WAIT ALSO NO ONE ELSE KNOWS THIS THERE ARE TWO (2) MASONS ON THE TEAM!!! i assume#they’re all talking about holler but it should be noted. anyway. Mason: can cuddle good personality would make 7ft babies can color good#colorado mesa university

i actually have not stopped thinkin bout your bb!edit like,,,, its so good and scratches my brain right
how long have you been doin edits for? do have any tips for someone, who hypothetically, wants to start doin edits too? what programs do you use? how did you do the cool animated bits?
im so sorry for all the qustions 😭😭 i just think youre very talented and inspirational and i hope you have a good day ^_^
hi firstly oh my gosh you're literally so sweet i am gently shaking you i love you so much /p. secondly, i apologize for the long answer! (it's all under the cut. this got away from me. i'm so sorry apparently i have a lot to say.) (also you're so good about the questions i would constantly be asking one of my professors questions during class to the point where she said i didn't have to go "i have a question" every time i approached her)
i've been editing since 2016! around march/april, i think? loved it so much i went into film & video production in college as a major so i could do editing for a living. (i have done more motion graphics for my classmates than i have done edits outside of class assignments, BUT!)
the program i use is after effects - i started learning it when covid first hit the united states because i had nothing better to do with my time (other than music theory but i failed that bc my professor focused more on the history aspects than the actual theory soooo) and my ipad kept giving me the "no more storage" whenever i tried to use videostar lmao. (vs has, apparently, gotten a LOT of good updates, so if you're looking to start editing and have an ios system, i'd look into it! only downside is you have to pay for some of the cool stuff).
also the program i use for masking (i think i explain this later dwdw) is superimpose. i've been using it since 2014 and it's SO nice bc i can use my fingers to erase backgrounds & stuff instead of hoping i can get it to work correctly in ae or photoshop (photoshop my DETESTED i'll use it but i'll complain the entire time).
for people who want to start editing: tutorials on how your program works and how to do specific transitions are gonna be your best friend when you're first figuring things out! i forced a friend to literally walk me through how after effects worked when i was first figuring it out, and when i had swapped to videostar back in 2017/2018(?) i had watched a Lot of tutorials. that and played around a lot and figured things out on my own - which is also always a good way to start!! it's also totally valid to look at other people's edits for inspiration - most editors don't really care, as long as you don't flat-out remake their edit (some people don't like that!). i have a style insp folder on instagram where i save edits that i like so if i need transition ideas or i'm doing a different style, i can look there for inspiration. at the end of the day, as long as you're having fun with it that's all that matters!
also, starting simple is always okay!! my edits for a year were just me slapping gifs & video segments together on a timeline in cute cut pro bc imovie didn't load them lol & it'd crash every time i breathed. ++ it never hurts to ask people for feedback/constructive(!!!) criticism/etc! (also not to sound like everyone else but practice? good. it's so good. if i showed my 14/15y/o self some of the edits i can make now they would've passed out on the spot bc i was still trying to figure out transitions back then. programs can also sometimes make a difference in edits, but usually it's not super noticeable until you start getting to the Complicated Shit.)
a lot of popular programs i've seen are ones like video star (ios only), alight motion (android only), after effects (i recommend 🏴☠️ing it tbh, i only use it legally bc i had to use adobe programs for school), capcut, and i think some people still use sony vegas pro & maybe cute cut pro (i've heard it may have actually gotten better since i last used it in 2018)? i have no idea. programs also depend on whatever device you're using to edit on! since i've been using my laptop, i'm able to use after effects (it's computer-only), but when i used my phone/ipad to edit i used ccp & vs.
for the animation - it's a lot of cutting up the image and masking! more complex animations, like the one i had of leo walking down that red 'hallway' have several different layers that have been masked. (i removed the background & filled in the spot where leo originally was in two different apps - superimpose (taking leo out) & photoshop (filling in the bg)) in after effects, the way i've done this was mask out the specific thing i wanted to move (like an eye) and then put that mask on what i've called a "base" (not animated), and then stick a solid behind the base to match the color of the object. (some of my layers are not named appropriately; base 2 is the left arm & the four "SIX_[...]" layers are the mask/bandana tails)
an example of this would be for any of the eye blink animations i did! this (above) is the same shot, with and without the eye - since it's masked out and i have the background solid behind it, it doesn't look too unnatural/have a black outline/mass where his eye should be.
what it looks like without the solid layer behind it ^ (the red lines are from the null layers - ignore that)
this is what my timeline looks like if it's a more simplistic animation - the only five things being animated here are leo & raph's eyes. (there's only this many layers bc it's two characters in one shot & i was also animating their pupils - typically, an eye-blink animation is about 4-6 layers for me (solid, base, mask, & null to animate with, 6 if i'm animating both eyes & 4 if just one))
in after effects, there's this really cool tool called the puppet pin that one of my friends (lovingly) yelled at me for not knowing about - which. yeah fair she wasn't wrong it's SUPER useful in animating, provided you chop up your image first. if you don't it's a mess.
(separated by layer vs i should've really put the mask tails & leo's head on separate layers and didn't bc that was the 2nd to last animation i had to do and i was losing my mind bc i wanted to be done with the edit lmao)
the way people animate depends all on their style (there's two common ways to do blinking animation - having the anchor point at the bottom of the eye, or the middle of it) and the program they use. it's been a while, but i could probably tell you how to do some basic animations on videostar still even though i've been doing them in after effects for about 2-3years now. ALSO the best way to have an animation be noticeable is to over-exaggerate it/make them Big - which, yes, can mean 'breaking bones' and having the limbs be a little wonky at the start. (if you want it to be realistic though go Just to the point where it looks uncomfortable lmao)
uhm. again i am so sorry that this is so long i THINK this is everything? if not: my inbox/dms are always open if you ever want to ask more questions, wanna follow up on something, etc etc!! (also if you ever start editing please send me your edits!!! i'd love to see them <3)
#this got away from me im SO sorry (just put this in google docs out of curiosity. 1255 words. i am so sorry for the essay.)#uhm. ANYWAY YES like i said if you have any other questions feel free to reach out!!! i am always alway willing to help people out#with stuff like this!!! i can talk your ear off though if this wasn't enough proof of that /j#if nothing makes sense it's bc i'm responding to this at like. 5am my time. so. my bad if there's typos i'm so sorry#like i think i saw this ask at 4:40ish am and i'm still making sure i've got everything covered and its like 5:32am LMAO#me when i dont sleep bc i have no routine now#ask box pals#art creds in the screenshots to trubblegumm !! <- tagging to be safe#still in shock at the amount of positive feedback im getting from my bb!leo edit like oh my god you guys are incredible ilysm /p#sorry i discovered in the middle of typing out my tags that you can edit them now after you've hit enter where am i.#also this is offtopic so its down here but i am Not complaining about doing more motion graphics than actual editing.#a bitch has won two awards for their motion graphics at festivals and i've been doing them for a YEAR#(laughs in the first time i ever did a real one i won a student award. idk how. but i DID and i won the pro category this year <3)#it would be nice tho to do more editing for short films tho :( had a professor tell me i was good at it.#i should rly start using my camera and shoot my own stuff and edit it huh. maybe i will eventually i have a few ideas.#anyway. i need to stop rambling abt my experience as a film student and go to bed i apparently need to be up in the morning but idk WHEN

Saw a post claiming that the Biden memes on here are why Joe Biden is generally not getting as much criticism as he probably should for the bad parts of his agenda, and some offense, but it really seems to me like that doesn't pass the sniff test at all and maybe if you believe this you need to go log off and get some outside air.
#Are we sure it's the memes#Not the same large scale consent manufacturing machine that's been doing that job our entire lives#Well okay my entire life the fall of the Fairness doctrine is where a lot of this stuff gets worse in particular#As well as the post Watergate belief of conservatives that this CANNOT happen to them again#But not the post-watergate belief that they needed to let it not happen by not doing bad shit#At any rate if I were a gambling man I'd put my single crisp US dollar bill down on 'the media' before 'the memes'#For starters 'websites the Biden VP memes circulated on' and 'websites with the best overall impression of him' don't correlate at all#I don't think I can remember any pro-Joe posts in the primaries on this website#But this website is also where I saw the vast majority of my Biden memes#Even still the most love I see for him on here right now is like 'You're gonna have to vote for him again because he'll be the nominee'#I just would like to see a lot more evidence for the memes theory before I believe a much mroe straightforward theory#That the institution of the presidency holds an undue reverence especially in the national press#and as such regularly goes under-questioned and under-critiqued during pretty much every administration of my lifetime#The meme just doesn't seem even remotely powerful enough to move the same amount of belief comparatively#If nothing else it's an absurdly online model of US politics that fails to account for a bunch of other factors#For God's sake they're fawning over GW Bush and his artisitic endeavors and that dude needs to be in the Hague#And I don't remember any pro GWB memes on here to justify that#So something else beyond the memes may be at play here#I really just don't see that the model has any upside whatsoever as an explanation of things#It doesn't explain anything better than more coherent and fleshed out theories of politics#But also does explain several things worse or not at all#Full disclosure there are Biden memes in this blog's history#But the way I feel about him currently is literally entirely unrelated to that#If you wanna look at them and go 'we probably could've and should've known better' I'll give you that#But not 'because of the long term impact it has had'

but the universities did no such things. they allowed the encampments and the hate rallies and the harassment and the assaults. they allowed it for an entire school year.
i don’t have a problem with universities suspending/expelling students for hate speech or incitement to violence when warranted, which could lead to international students losing their student visas. BUT the federal government should not be involved with this, and you should not trust them not to use this as a trojan horse for targeted anti-immigrant policies.
#the thing is... IF the universities had bothered doing ANYTHING about all that pro-terrorism circus on their campuses all year...#probably a not-insignificant number of moderates may have been less inclined to vote republican in 2024.#normal people saw those encampments and were disgusted. and they saw the universities doing nothing about it. and then they saw#various democrats (the usual suspects-- i mean-- the squad) show up and LOUDLY support those pro-terror students. they saw the#only people calling this out being republicans and conservative media. Repubs got to be the ''good guys'' by merely saying#''hey this looks like discrimination! and Discrimination Is Bad!'' and ''this rally looks really anti-American! they're burning the flag!''#and you know what? ''normies'' saw them and saw that they were the only fucking voice of reason. and they voted accordingly.#especially parents of high school students going to college soon and parents of college students.#a shitload of college students didn't speak up at the schools/didn't stand up against the pro-terror encampments... but you can bet#they cried to their parents how scary it was and how much they wanted those assholes off campus#a lot of people ARE single-issue voters and i bet for a couple million parents/college students... their single issue was ''Republicans#said they were gonna stop this shit and clean up college campuses. for this much tuition i better be able to use my campus''#i'm not blaming the results of the election on the Democrats here. but in this specific arena? they dropped the ball & refused to pick it u

I think the funniest kind of chinese nationalists ever are the one who blame everything bad that China has done during the Cold War on the USSR, truly the classic move for everything that went wrong during the 50s to 80s
#just saw a Take that was like#'the ussr forced kim to invade south korea bc they wanted to weak america's military! then they did nothing to support north korea!#and we chinese people had to do all the job! the disintegration of the soviet union was retribution'#like. that's sure an interpretation#and the same person tried to argue that ussr didn't helped china that much bc they used chinese labor which... i guess it's not a wrong tak#like that's just stalin's MO you aint getting preferential treatment if you want that railroad srry#same for chinese people during the russian revolution like you are really overblowing the thing due to your bias#another very strange that is that person is very pro-unification with taiwan and argues with a chinese that#'they think thiefing n.koreans are comrades. stoners grass-eating yemenis are comrades and USA-lickbooters sanctioned persians are comrades#(btw very respectful way to describe just poor people from sanctioned countries lol)#but taiwaneses that 'want to reunite with us' aren't comrades' what is even your point lmao#my post#oh and they say that 'the developing world wants china to lead the new world order but usa and russi are too annoying' like WHO????#africans want hospitals not chinese influences lol

Today's books-in-the-wild story comes to you from Goodwill, where an elderly man tried to recommend Vince Flynn to me because "those books are great, and he's local! He lived in the Twin Cities, and then he got famous nationwide because Rush Limbaugh liked him and recommended his books on his show."
I appreciate the enthusiasm, sir, but that did not help your case.
#IDK if he thought I specifically would be into them so much as that he saw one on the shelf#and I was the only other person around to whom he could share his Favorite Author love.#I politely indulged him because I do like book talk and I am pro-people-having-favorite-authors but I am sorry#almost nothing could interest or thrill me less than war/spy thrillers#(i will happily watch MOVIES in that line if they feature a hot man I like but in print they are insufferably dull)#a day in the life of televinita

I want to make something really clear that I think Anti-Choice people have failed to understand that Pro Choicers definitely saw coming.
An exception for Rape, Life of the Mother, and Incest mean nothing when you have to prove it in a court of law, or get a team of lawyers and judges to sign off on it which can take weeks or even months.
Weeks a person dying hasn't got. Women are now dying. Actually dying. Because hospitals legally could not save their lives until they could wake up a judge and get their lawyers, and another sides lawyers awake and up and figured out if it was actually necessary or not. All people with no understanding of medicine, and no attatchment to the person suffering who simply doesn't want to die.
There's a lot more I could cover, like the increase in illegal abortion, abortion tourism, the massive increase in infant abandonment... but I'm going to leave it here.
People are dying. People who should be alive. Who would be alive if abortion was legal and the hospital could have simply treated their patient without waiting for a dozen men with no medical experience in another building to decide if their patient actually needs treatment or not. And yes they do have to wait. Because if they don't they get charged with murder for trying to save a life.
Your policies are killing people. Not theoretical people. Not fetuses with no conscious thought or pain. Adults with lives. Teenagers with a whole life ahead of them. Mothers with children who need them. Real people with conscious thought, with fear, with pain. People who meet every definition of personhood.

A pro-Palestine Jew on tiktok asked those of us who were raised pro-Israel, what got us to change our minds on Palestine. I made a video to answer (with my voice, not my face), and a few people watched it and found some value in it. I'm putting this here too. I communicate through text better than voice.
So I feel repetitive for saying this at this point, but I grew up in the West Bank settlements. I wrote this post to give an example of the extent to which Palestinians are dehumanized there.
Where I live now, I meet Palestinians in day to day life. Israeli Arab citizens living their lives. In the West Bank, it was nothing like that. Over there, I only saw them through the electric fence, and the hostility between us and Palestinians was tangible.
When you're a child being brought into the situation, you don't experience the context, you don't experience the history, you don't know why they're hostile to you. You just feel "these people hate me, they don't want me to exist." And that bubble was my reality. So when I was taught in school that everything we did was in self defense, that our military is special and uniquely ethical because it's the only defensive military in the world - that made sense to me. It slotted neatly into the reality I knew.
One of the first things to burst the bubble for me was when I spoke to an old Israeli man and he was talking about his trauma from battle. I don't remember what he said, but it hit me wrong. It conflicted with the history as I understood it. So I was a bit desperate to make it make sense again, and I said, "But everything we did was in self defense, right?"
He kinda looked at me, couldn't understand at all why I was upset, and he went, "We destroyed whole villages. Of course we did. It was war, that's what you do."
And that casual "of course" stuck with me. I had to look into it more.
I couldn't look at more accurate history, and not at accounts by Palestinians, I was too primed against these sources to trust them. The community I grew up in had an anti-intellectual element to it where scholars weren't trusted about things like this.
So what really solidified this for me, was seeing Palestinian culture.
Because part of the story that Israel tells us to justify everything, is that Palestinians are not a distinct group of people, they're just Arabs. They belong to the nations around us. They insist on being here because they want to deny us a homeland. The Palestinian identity exists to hurt us. This, because the idea of displacing them and taking over their lands doesn't sound like stealing, if this was never theirs and they're only pretending because they want to deprive us.
But then foods, dances, clothing, embroidery, the Palestinian dialect. These things are history. They don't pop into existence just because you hate Jews and they're trying to move here. How gorgeous is the Palestinian thobe? How stunning is tatreez in general? And when I saw specific patterns belonging to different regions of Palestine?
All of these painted for me a rich shared life of a group of people, and countered the narrative that the Palestininian identity was fabricated to hurt us. It taught me that, whatever we call them, whatever they call themselves, they have a history in this land, they have a right to it, they have a connection to it that we can't override with our own.
I started having conversations with leftist friends. Confronting the fact that the borders of the occupied territories are arbitrary and every Israeli city was taken from them. In one of those conversations, I was encouraged to rethink how I imagine peace.
This also goes back to schooling. Because they drilled into us, we're the ones who want peace, they're the ones who keep fighting, they're just so dedicated to death and killing and they won't leave us alone.
In high school, we had a stadium event with a speaker who was telling us about a person who defected from Hamas, converted to Christianity and became a Shin Bet agent. Pretty sure you can read this in the book "Son of Hamas." A lot of my friends read the book, I didn't read it, I only know what I was told in that lecture. I guess they couldn't risk us missing out on the indoctrination if we chose not to read it.
One of the things they told us was how he thought, we've been fighting with them for so long, Israelis must have a culture around the glorification of violence. And he looked for that in music. He looked for songs about war. And for a while he just couldn't find any, but when he did, he translated it more fully, and he found out the song was about an end to wars. And this, according to the story as I was told it, was one of the things that convinced him. If you know know the current trending Israeli "war anthem," you know this flimsy reasoning doesn't work.
Back then, my friend encouraged me to think more critically about how we as Israelis envision peace, as the absence of resistance. And how self-centered it is. They can be suffering under our occupation, but as long as it doesn't reach us, that's called peace. So of course we want it and they don't.
Unless we're willing to work to change the situation entirely, our calls for peace are just "please stop fighting back against the harm we cause you."
In this video, Shlomo Yitzchak shares how he changed his mind. His story is much more interesting than mine, and he's much more eloquent telling it. He mentions how he was taught to fear Palestinians. An automatic thought, "If I go with you, you'll kill me." I was taught this too. I was taught that, if I'm in a taxi, I should be looking at the driver's name. And if that name is Arab, I should watch the road and the route he's taking, to be prepared in case he wants to take me somewhere to kill me. Just a random person trying to work. For years it stayed a habit, I'd automatically look at the driver's name. Even after knowing that I want to align myself with liberation, justice, and equality. It was a process of unlearning.
On October, not long after the current escalation of violence, I had to take a taxi again. A Jewish driver stopped and told me he'll take me, "so an Arab doesn't get you." Israeli Jews are so comfortable saying things like this to each other. My neighbors discussed a Palestinian employee, with one saying "We should tell him not to come anymore, that we want to hire a Jew." The second answered, "No, he'll say it's discrimination," like it would be so ridiculous of him. And the first just shrugged, "So we don't have to tell him why." They didn't go through with it, but they were so casual about this conversation.
In the Torah, we're told to treat those who are foreign to us well, because we know what it's like to be the foreigner. Fighting back against oppression is the natural human thing to do. We know it because we lived it. And as soon as I looked at things from this angle, it wasn't really a choice of what to support.
#riki babbles#I had this in my drafts for ages and I was like 'not the time' but a friend encouraged me to share so here it is#palestine

i love love LOVE reading the hcs where pro hero, husband! katsuki is just so in love with his dear wife.
you sat on the couch, a warm blanket wrapped around you, as you watched katsuki's live interview on tv. the interviewer, a well-known journalist, smiled at him, clearly eager to delve into his life as a top pro hero.
“so, mr. dynamight, what would you say is your greatest achievement?” the interviewer asked, leaning in with interest.
without missing a beat, katsuki didn't even hesitate. “marrying my wife.”
your eyes widened, your heart skipping a beat. a big, silly smile spreads across your face as you listened, touched by his words.
the interviewer chuckled, clearly caught off guard. “that’s very sweet, but i meant in your pro hero career.”
katsuki frowns at him, as if offended by the idea of something else being greater than marrying you. “nothing else matters.”
the room fell silent for a moment, the sincerity of his words hanging in the air. yhe interviewer, taken aback by his straightforwardness, smiled warmly. “that’s quite the statement. it’s clear how much she means to you.”
katsuki simply nodded, his expression unwavering. “she’s my everything.”
you felt your heart swelled with love and pride, tears prickling at the corners of your eyes. you knew he loved her, but hearing him say it so openly and proudly made you feel like the luckiest girl in the world.
his girl. his one and only. the love of his life.
long after his interview, the front door creaked open, and your husband stepped inside, loosening his tie as he kicked off his shoes. before he could even set his bag down, you appeared, practically bouncing with excitement.
before he could even say a word, you launched yourself at him, throwing your arms around his neck and pulling him down into a huge, sloppy kiss. katsuki barely had time to react before you were kissing him with such enthusiasm that it left him momentarily stunned.
when you finally pulled back, a big grin plastered on your face, he blinked, wiping at his lips with a bemused expression.
“what the hell was that for, sweets?” he asked, though his tone held no real annoyance.
you giggled, wrapping your arms tighter around him. “for being the sweetest husband ever,” you smiled, eyes shining with affection. “i saw the interview.”
katsuki’s face softened, a small smirk tugging at the corners of his mouth. “tch, you’re acting like i don’t mean it.”
“i know you do,” you replied, leaning up to peck his lips again, this time softer. “but hearing you say it like that... it means the world to me.”
he sighed, pulling you into a tighter embrace. “you’re such a sap,” he muttered, though his tone was fond.
“says the guy who just declared i’m his greatest achievement on national television,” you teased, nuzzling into his chest.
katsuki scoffs, pressing a kiss to the top of your head.
“yeah, yeah. just don’t get used to it.”
