Hawker culture is so central to Singapore life that we have led a successful campaign to have the practice inscribed on the 2020 UNESCO Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. Now, McDonald’s Singapore has come out with three uniquely hawker-inspired burgers. Two Satay Burgers (沙爹汉堡) which are available now and Ha Cheong Gai Chicken Burger to arrive from 8th August 2024 onward.

So on the way back home, I detoured to the McDonald’s nearest home and bought the Satay Chicken Burger Special (S$9.90) set meal with Crisscut Fries and upgraded (top up S$1.65) my drink to the Thai Milk Tea Frappé.

The Satay Chicken Burger (沙爹鸡肉汉堡) is not the tall handsome burger projected in the advertisement, more on the flat side. And the grilled chicken is skinny and overcooked on one side so that it is tough for my burger but I will give it the benefit of doubt since today is their first launch day. There are also slices of crisp cucumber and onions with satay sauce between the two toasted sesame seeds buns. The peanut sauce is mildly spicy with a sweet and nutty flavour. I do wish the peanut profile is stronger, however.

The very next day, I bought the S$8.90 Satay Beef Burger Meal (沙爹牛肉汉堡) with medium French Fries and topped up S$0.75 to change my gassy drink to a small Ice Green Tea. I also ordered an ala carte Satay Chicken Burger (S$7.95) for mum which she enjoyed. After having eaten both, my preference goes to the grilled chicken version as it is more succulent and juicier. The beef burger is a tad dry due to the thinner patty, maybe more of the peanut sauce would do the trick.

Went to Kachai Thai for dinner. Shared their chicken satay, had their Thai fried rice with beef, and had their mango sticky rice for dessert. It was all good. I had half of the fried rice, so I get to have more for lunch today. Yay!

i think i actually know when im full or not... but because of chronic overeating, i almost always go past the 1st feeling of fullness. like today i ate some fried tofu, meatball, chicken, ice cream coated in marshmallow, and i KNEW it was time to stop but i didn't and now im beyond full and I STILL WANT TO EAT
it's like a switch to binge just turns on once i overeat

Green Peppers Day
Green peppers, known as green bell peppers or green sweet peppers, have their day today. There are other colors of bell peppers, like red, yellow, and orange, but just the green are celebrated today. Although considered vegetables in the culinary world, they actually are fruit. They are part of the Grossum cultivar group of the Capsicum annuum species, which are part of the Solanaceae family, or nightshades. Native to the tropics of the Americas, they were introduced to Europe and Asia by Spanish and Portoguese explorers in the late fifteenth century. They spread from there and are now grown around the world.
Green peppers have dark, glossy skin that is smooth and firm. They are juicy and crisp to the bite, and mildly bitter, not as sweet in flavor as other bell peppers. But, along with other bell peppers, they are not hot like other peppers: they don't have capsaicin and are the lowest pepper on the Scoville scale. Their flesh is thick, and besides the membrane and seeds, their interior is hollow. Green peppers are high in vitamin C. They contain carotenoids, a colorful antioxidant, and are a very good source of vitamin A, vitamin K, vitamin B6, potassium, manganese, folic acid, and fiber. They have no fat and are low in calories.
Green peppers have a mild flavor and are versatile in the kitchen. They can be eaten raw or cooked. When raw, they can be cut up and eaten with a veggie dip or hummus, top a salad or sandwich, or be used to make pico de gallo or salsa. When cooked, the possibilities of their use are almost endless. They can be baked, roasted, grilled, and prepared in other ways and used in many dishes. Stuffed peppers and pepper steak are common pepper dishes. They are used in casseroles, put on pizzas, sautéed with sausage, to make stir fry, or roasted and put over pasta. Along with celery and onions, green peppers are part of the holy trinity, a variation of the French mirepoix that is used in Cajun and Creole cooking. It is used as a base for gumbos, soups, stews, jambalaya and crawfish étouffée. Mmm, Green Peppers Day sounds tasty!
How to Observe Green Peppers Day
Celebrate by eating green peppers! There are many ways you could do so:
Cut them up and have them raw, perhaps with veggie dip or hummus.
Put them on top of a salad or sandwich.
Have some tortilla chips and pico de gallo.
Make pepper steak, sautée green peppers with sausage, or make another stir fry with green peppers.
Make a homemade pizza and cover it with green peppers.
Make a roasted pepper pasta dish.
Make stuffed peppers, stuffed pepper soup, or stuffed pepper casserole.
You could also grow your own green peppers so you'll have more to eat in the future!

Went to Kachai Thai last night for dinner. I had chicken satay. Had half of it. It made for a good breakfast. I got their Thai fried rice with beef and no onions. It was pretty good. Had half of it, and the other half for lunch today. They only had one type of dessert left: rice pudding. It’s with purple rice. I’m usually not into rice pudding, and this was only the 2nd time having it. It was better than last time. No weird aftertaste. Just sweetened coconut milk (I think) and a chewy rice.
