This will be my one and only post on the subject of post-s3 canon-compliant Hannigram...
...unless ofc the show gets renewed, which, at this point--it won't, lbr. Martha de Laurentiis was the show's champion and navigator of the rights issues, and she has literally died. If anyone else is championing it, I don't know about it. Maybe something can come through eventually as the new company leadership gets shit figured out, idk. But I'm not holding my breath.
That's the key point here which most of these asks don't seem to recognize: they want me to give an opinion on the state of the relationship, and whether or not Hannibal and Will can be together for a long term and maintain contentment in their relationship with each other: the Happy Ever After Question. But what these asks are most notably NOT doing--even though the askers always frame it as if they are--is asking me about the kind of storytelling would be likely in a continuation of the show: the Plot? What Plot? question. They want to have their plot cake and happily eat it ever after too. And it just doesn't work that way.
These are really very, very different questions. And what would happen if the show actually did come back has as much to do with what would have to happen to resurrect the show out of rights oblivion and then negotiate endless contracts AND how the creatives own lives and circumstances may have changed them and their points of view over the years, as well as the years themselves.
And because the show is very likely never coming back it's really a moot point now. Fantasize however you want. Write fic however you want. It's your damn story now, not the creatives. So in answer to the first, Happy Ever After Question, yeah, sure, why the fuck not. Let Hannigram have forever. But wait--you like plot with your porn? Then by all means give them some conflict. Tear them from the seams, their skin, their bones. Does that make you happy now?
But stop pulling down other people who are doing it in a different way than you're doing it, even if you can't understand it. Yeah, you know who you are....
As for the ~cANoN~ question, let's also be real for a second. If the show were renewed TODAY, it will have been more than a decade between seasons three and four, and Bryan Fuller has been pretty clear that Hannibal and Will are together during that time. So CAN they stay together for a period of years? Yeah, sure, why the fuck not. Obviously they HAVE.
But also--if the show were to come back, would they be destined for angsty shit and conflict and, yanno, PLOT? Again, obviously. It's a ridiculous notion that the show would continue without it. Flip side of that, though, is the equally ridiculous notion that seems to be floating around that if they can't be Disney princesses in their happily-ever-after together, then they can't be together at all, or at least, not for long. That's also absurd.
So let's touch base with what we know, and not what we each individually prefer.
Let's pretend--perhaps ambitiously--for a minute that if the show did ever come back it would be following the plan that we were left off with. It would stretch into 3 more seasons, with Cuban, Korean, and Cajun dishes iirc for episode titles. Bryan Fuller was pretty clear that season four would dive into an untapped portion of the books, revisit season one in a "really interesting way," and be pitched as Angel Heart meets Inception. Will might achieve happiness but not till the ending of the whole thing. That's what we know. Sorry I can't cite any of this; I haven't looked up a Hannibal article in half a decade.
So, leaving aside specifics and just getting to the question at hand, what we do know from season 1 is that Hannibal and Will were together. So, logically, they're probably together in any theoretical season 4. And OF COURSE they would be--they just spent all of S3 apart. You gotta vary this shit up. And they have to have internal and external conflicts, because writing 101. And the internal conflicts are meaningless--as would be all the rest of the preceding show--unless they're deeply and passionately invested in and love each other. That was the whole frickin' point of S3.
I don't honestly even understand how any of this is a question or a debate. Why are y'all even arguing in this the year of our lord almost 2024, and making me grumpy by sending me endless asks about stuff that's been answered for years and years. Why did I have to read with my OWN TWO EYES that someone who joined the fandom in 2016 (!!!) is so #FandomOld that people are afraid to argue with them????
...
So, y'all, this is all I'm willing to say about a potential continuation and ending of the show:
In a simple sense, the pattern the show was setting up is S1 & S4 Hannigram is together and solving crimes (at least in some weird Angel Heart way), S2 & S5 is semi-together, semi-apart Baltimore State Hospital for the Criminally Insane thing (with other stuff), and S3 & S6 on-the-run culminating in Something Big (probably at least partially apart). That doesn't mean this is the way the show would go, but it'd be very easy to write Clarice or an expy coming into the story to chase them down and end up mentored by them (either one or both) with this format.
As for the very final ending of the whole thing, the ending *I* would write may not be the same as what Bryan Fuller would write, but to me it seems both obvious where the show should go and that it would be completely and utterly satisfying to shippers and non-shippers alike. And I have run my theoretical ending by devout Hannigram shippers, and it met their approval. So if I can come up with something that both works for them and works for my sense of completionism in storytelling, then I'm sure Bryan Fuller could. He's way more practiced than me.
I have consistently said that I do not relate to the notion that it'd be better to have them together in one's imagination than it would be to actually see Mads and Hugh acting together in the ACTUAL SHOW, regardless of how that ends. Because here's the thing: my imagination is boundless and endless, and I can get an unlimited amount of Hannigram doing whatever the fuck I please whenever the fuck I please. More show, on the other hand, is rare as hen's teeth. I would take that miracle if I could get it.
The End.

Anyone notice how many times Ladybug talked about herself in third person in the London Special?
As soon as she told that lie about Gabriel and Tomoe, she began separating herself from what she'd done. She's coping through dissociation.
Throughout S1-5, she and Adrien were on paths towards integration. They were learning to see that he already was Cat Noir and she already was Ladybug. The strength lay within all along.
But by being untrue, she's gone backwards, splitting her two selves rather than unifying them. She's attempting to compartmentalise Marinette's relationship with Adrien from Ladybug's...which is unworkable.
In a word...our girl is a mess. She's supposedly doing all this to protect Adrien - but who's protecting her?

Footsteps - A TDP Theory
Claudia has long followed in her father's footsteps. Viren taught her everything, and she became his shadow.
This was ultimately her downfall. he led her down a dark and terrible path. But maybe... it will be her redemption as well.
Because what did Viren do in his final moments? He found himself, he opened his eyes, and he did the right thing. (Hopefully Claudia's story doesn't end as tragically).
So I think that come Season Seven Claudia will once again follow in her father's footsteps and do the right thing.

AHH OK thank you so so so much to @konmaao3 for the answer (the linked post was unavailable to me so idk if i'm retreading here but)
i didn't even remember it but callum's spellbook says this ^ . no matter where in the world, when the cube is dropped on the ground it leaves marks all pointing in the same direction, like how sunflowers grow facing the sun (heliotropism hello vocab word).
i wanted a visual sooo
shocker, it all points to the sea of the castout!
considering we now know the sea's significance, the fact that this is so emphasized after we've already gotten the prison, and that it's confirmed that the key unlocks the book, my guess is that the book is back there, but who knows
this was such a cool little detail i am now obsessed with it

Some of yall are really annoying.
If I see one more person talk about, one runaan being a hater towards rayllum I'm gonna fight somebody, and two some idiot saying that Ezran is gonna hate or try to kill runaan for revenge or whatever I'm also gonna lose it.
First of all runaan didn't even react to seeing callum, let alone react negatively towards him. He basically just got out of a like two year comma, and yall fools are trying to say he's gonna make them breakup?? Where's the deductive reasoning skills I know yall kids were taught in school.
Just this episode we did a whole scene about love, and forgiveness. All about how runaan felt he betrayed himself by not trusting rayla, and how he also broke his promise by not coming back to ethari. And you still think he's gonna be some bigot hater after all that?
Next point is ezrans possible reaction to seeing runaan.
I'm sorry but it you think or want ezran to hate runaan or want him dead, then you lack media literacy, and you've never understood ezrans character.
Ezran forgave rayla season two, and more importantly he moved on from the ideas of revenge, and broke the cycle of hate created by king Harrow and viren season 3, remember? So did callum for that matter.
Ezrans whole story is about not being like Harrow admitting that the path he took was wrong, and choosing to be better.
Also Ez just learned that his entire kingdom was burned down, and lots of his people died and you think he's got time to focus on something like that he's KING.
It's sad that ezran is like ten, and more mature than most people in this Fandom.

I know a lot of people think that Aaravos did something bad previously to Leola dying and his imprisonment, maybe he invented dark magic or is just an unreliable narrator to the story of Leola. Maybe he took out parts of the story that would make him more at fault. Maybe he didn't lie, just hid the truth. That what happened to cause his eyes to be dark unlike the other Startouch elves is what he's hiding from the story, maybe it's the real reason Leola died.
And, I'm fully aware that's absolutely going to be the canon explanation, but I think a fun idea would be that he's just built like that.
Given Startouch elves can reproduce without sex, and even if they did, it makes sense that a Startouch elf who gave life to another would share similar traits, right? Well, Leola is quirky, she has one horn, she's completely different from the others. Where could she have got that from? The physical differences? The way her mind is different from those around her? Perhaps, she got these from the one who created her.
Aaravos is a Startouch elf who lives among humans, who treats them with kindness and even when he knows his daughter is about to face the consequences of unknowingly disrupting the cosmic order, he doesn't snap at the human child who witnessed her being taken away, instead he comforts the child. I don't think any other Startouch elf is like him. Especially not like Leola.
They were doomed from the start. Startouch elves don't have time for those who view things in an emotional rather than subjective lens, they don't have time for those who grieve over lost family, or who try to fight against the rules in place. They don't have time for mercy. They don't have time for Aaravos or Leola.
This brings me to my question. Why let Aaravos live? Why not get rid of him like they did Leola? Perhaps they can't, or maybe, they knew of the way his story would play out. Whether they knew Leola dying would be the trigger or not, or only realised when it was too late, I think they were fully aware of Aaravos' plan at least some point before his imprisonment.

Okay okay, just two more things I want to point out before I head off to bed.
Firstly, Iāve seen people point out how Soren was shown bleeding or that he had blood on him, but why?
And why does he suddenly shift moods in the same clip?
Also, it looks like heās looking up more in the first image and with concern.
I mean, with the background and all, this looks like it might take place at Katolis. But why would he have blood on him there? Was he in a fight with someone? Is the person heās fighting the one heās looking at here?? I need answers!
Secondly,
Oh my gosh. Did anyone hear that insane screaming from Claudia??
Even with the sound of the music overlapping it, her screaming was so clear and loud in the background.
It sounds gut wrenching.
Racquel was not kidding when she said she was really pushed to her limits when it came to her voice acting this season. I hope her vocal cords arenāt totally fried now.

Here's a whole bunch of initial thoughts I have after watching the London Special.
Time Travel
Speaking as someone who writes way too many stories involving time travel...there were a lot of holes in this special. Also, I appreciate that it's been 15 months since the S5 finale aired, and they probably wanted to remind us (and especially children) of the key moments...but some scene repetition felt like it was just there to pad out the episode length. But I'm gonna shrug all that off because of everything else this special did.
Lies, Lies and More Lies
I've not been quiet about how angry I was over Ladybug lying to Adrien and keeping vital secrets, in that S5 finale. I'm so glad to see that this special addressed that stuff. By the end, we see that both heroes are keeping secrets. Cat's identity has become more pertinent than never, and she has no idea.
Going Too Far
In their final conversation, Ladybug told Cat she worried she might have gone 'too far' this time. Throughout S5, we were repeatedly told no one has ever been able to handle unifying the miraculous like Marinette can. We also watched her change dramatically over that season. By the S5 finale, I felt like she'd become overpowered. In this special, I think she acknowledged that. Maybe she handed out the other miraculous because she realised she was in danger of becoming another Gabriel, e.g. making decisions about what's right for Adrien, etc.
Did She Make the Right Decision?
With no one else to turn to, Marinette asks Plagg and Tikki if she made the right decision. They don't tell her she's wrong, but they also seem very undecided. She also asks Bunnyx, who tells her that both paths - telling or not telling Adrien the truth - will lead to both happy and sad moments. This warns us that hard times are on their way. She wants to 'protect Adrien', but she can't. She can't keep him from pain. seems to suggest that Marinette's choice to keep the truth from him is going to lead to some hard times.
Kagami
Kagami intimated that she disagreed with Marinette's decision. When she comforted Adrien in the white room and told Bug Noire to go...that really hit me. There is so much going on there. Transformed, Marinette can't comfort Adrien. In fact, she's just hurt him, and Kagami is the only one in that scene able to help him pick up the pieces. Not just that, but Kagami can relate. Remember her name means 'mirror'. She's now in the position Adrien could be in, if he knew the truth. She's the one trying to come to terms with the truth about her parent. She's the one dealing with the knowledge that she's a sentibeing. She is an example of Adrien's alternate path. When she tells Bug Noire that she's letting her love for Adrien blind her...Kagami is speaking personally - as someone who can put herself in Adrien's shoes in a way Marinette just can't.
If I Could Turn Back Time
When Chrono Bug got that black cat calendar as a lucky charm, she must have known it meant Cat Noir was somehow the solution. But she ignored it. I think her emotions regarding Adrien blinded her from understanding what the universe was trying to tell her.
She and Bunnyx spent much of the episode trying to determine the crucial moment when things started spinning out of control - the moment they needed to change. Marinette focused on the revelation of her identity, which I'm sure was vital. BUT...the elephant in the room was the moment she chose to lie to Adrien. Standing in that time burrow, she had a chance to change the story she told him and undo everything that's on its way. Surely that cat calendar was hinting at this.
Kitten
I think it's telling that the cat on the calendar was a kitten. It felt like the universe was telling her there's something she isn't seeing in Cat - that he's more fragile and in need of nurturing than she acknowledges. When she sees him at the end, and he tells her he has his own awful secret - when he cries over it - she should be questioning why he's that eaten up about missing that final battle. What's his secret? Why's he so devastated? But she's too wrapped up in her own conundrum. Like in Cat Blanc, she's not 'listening'. For me, the most painful moment was when he tried to reassure her that things would be okay - now it'll be 'you and me again, just like old times'. She hasn't yet told him there's actually a huge team now. But they both must understand that the old times are well and truly gone.
The Truth Is Out There
We're now waiting for yet another reveal. Adrien and Marinette still have to find out they're Cat and Ladybug - but Adrien also has to find out the truth about his father. This special hammered it all in so hard that it's Chekhov's gun waiting to go off. What I wonder is if the writers had this angle in mind all along, or if they did this after they saw the fan reaction to that S5 finale. I suspect it's a bit of the latter, particularly because they also had Bunnyx explain that Marinette's reaction to Gabriel in the S5 finale was her getting the 'proof' that he was Monarch. Her reaction was one of many things we all questioned after that episode first aired, so I think the writers were trying to 'fix' things with this special. And I'm fine with that. I'm pleased that they're listening and not just moving on from this stuff / trying to sell it to us that lying to someone is 'the right thing to do'.
The Wild Card
At the end of S5, I thought it was clear that Lila had worked out Ladybug's identity. I assumed S6 would involve some vendetta against Marinette. This special demonstrated that would make things too easy, so they levelled the playing field. Lila doesn't know Ladybug's identity. But she does know Monarch was Gabriel. I think it's inevitable that at some point (probably not for ages, because the writers will want to string us along in suspense), she'll tell Adrien the truth about his father.
Cat Blanc
I think 'Cat Blanc', and Adrien's vision in the white room, were foreshadowing. In this special, we saw how angry Adrien was at Bug Noire when she told her story. He demanded to know why she couldn't save Gabriel. He seemed to have forgiven her by the end, but when he learns the truth, he's going to feel so betrayed. And when he breaks down...watch out, moon.
The Inevitable Break-Up
I think it's inevitable that Adrinette will break up...but only temporarily. When it all blows up, it could be the necessary turning point we've been waiting for, where they finally get on equal footing - where their relationship is based on honesty and total mutual respect.
Conclusion
Buckle up, guys. We're in for a bumpy ride - but I remain optimistic. After 15 crazy months, I'm finally no longer angry about the S5 finale.

It gets buried along the way because there's more going onāensuring that Runaan won't be executed tonight rather than tomorrow morning at the top of the listāand because the Callum she came back to is definitely better at hiding his hurt than the boy she left, but he can't fool her. Not when she saw the hurt happen.
I know you're upset, but Ezran, he was my father tooā
Was he? You never even called him Dad!
The way Callum's expression had cracked, crumbled, for just a moment, the glassy quality to his bright green eyes. He'd stormed off in a huff with the last wordāYou are not executing him, not till morning, if you care about Rayla at allāand when Ezran hadn't been able to look at her, Rayla had followed.
She finds Callum on the bridge outside, the sun beginning to set and bathing everything in a warm yellow.
"Hey." He's resting his elbows on the side of the bridge as she approaches, his shoulders haunched. She places a hand between his shoulder blades. "Are you..." Obviously not okay. None of them are.
And how could he be, when Ezran had thrown that in his face? They both know how much Callum regretted not calling Harrow what he was; they both know how much he sat in years of uncomfortable security over how much Harrow loved him, and Harrow loved him deeply.
"I'm fine," Callum says shortly. "Ezran is just... we'll have to break Runaan out tonight, somehow, and leave before sunrise."
"Callumā"
"You can use your lockpick skills to get his cuffs undone or to cut whatever rope is binding him, andā"
"Callum." She takes him by the shoulders and forces him to face her. Immediately his head droops, his eyes glassy all over again. "Ezran shouldn't have said that. Harrow knew you loved him. Knew that he was your dad. I promise."
This time Callum crumbles into her, arms tight around her waist while he lets out a few sobs against her shoulder. Rayla holds him steady and runs her fingers through his hair.
She can't imagine how unmoored he feelsāhis home gone, Ezran acting like the opposite of himself, his own grief about Harrow ripped open all over again. His anchor, his little brother, acting like they aren't brothers at all. Aren't family. Just a king and a high mage who's overstepped his bounds, as Ezran had so cruelly reminded him.
Afterwards, Callum takes her hand when she tries to dissuade him from helping herāyou've done enoughāboth his palms warm in the early autumn chill as her own eyes sting, because she just got Runaan back and without Callum's help her chances of losing him all over again is much higherāI would do anything for youāand she lets him, because that's what you do for family, and she could never hate him for his choices. Not when they're so clearly done out of love, always.
Ezran will see that someday. Ezran will forgive them, and before that, Runaan will continue to live.
