do you ever wonder what would have happened if Sara Ramirez hadn't decided to take a break from the show? How would the writers have dealt with Callie being in NY? or maybe she would've never actually gotten on the plane? What's your take on this?
hmmm, i have lots of thoughts tbh
if she wasn't leaving at the end of season 12 and wasn't going to NY in any way:
I think that there are a few ways they might have taken the whole Penny storyline - I do think there would've still been some sort of Callie's in a relationship storyline regardless and I do see the value of Penny as a storytelling device with Meredith, so I could totally see them still including her and not fundamentally changing a lot there
but I think if they were planning for a s13 Callie storyline, I think it would've intersected with Arizona's, so there might have been a similar storyline for Arizona, to you know show that they were both moving on (as much as I find her irritating, Eliza was super important to Arizona getting her confidence back). I (of course) am all for Calzona endgame, so I think that there would probably be some more moments between them to establish that they weren't finished
I do think the other way they could go with Penny in this hypothetical scenario would be to put her and Arizona against each other in some way - to draw a contrast between the two. Not necessarily from a career standpoint bc Penny is at such a different level from Arizona (and Callie tbh). Obviously, there could be like romantic competition or whatever. But for some reason, I think that a more interesting angle would be portraying Penny as someone a bit like Callie (as in impulsive and falls quickly and moves quickly) as more of a George than an Arizona. And how that would affect the dynamic of Sofia-Callie-Arizona. Clearly, they wanted to do something, so we got the custody battle. But there was a lot of room to do something when Callie wanted to introduce Penny to Sofia.
I think they could've really set Arizona and Callie up to have conflict (w/o the custody battle) and to have that carry into the next season and then obviously you can just write Penny off to NY and create a contrast b/w Callie in s7 and s12 - Callie lets Penny go in a more mature way and she has roots in Seattle now
if they were really committed to the whole NY debacle:
so the custody battle I think would have to be very different if Callie was coming back bc quite frankly that was character assassination. i do think that they'd probably have to do some sort of big custody thing bc neither would want to be without Sofia. I just think it might be more balanced/more reasonable. They really wanted to sell this idea of how impulsive Callie is and she is impulsive, but she's not stupid either. There was definitely space to bring Carlos in around there and it seemed like a waste not to tbh.
The way I see it, Arizona was always going to let Callie go, the real question was if Callie would go. Arizona's always let Callie go (metaphorically and physically) if she thinks it's in Callie's best interest. So there'd probably be something similar where Arizona tells Callie to go and be happy (which is a pretty obvious callback to the Africa breakup)
Then I think it would be a question of if Callie actually goes or not. Either there'd be a scene at the end of the season, where Callie tells Arizona she can't go
or they'd have Callie go at the end of s12 and create some tension around her coming back with Arizona.
In a perfect world, and since Grey's is very fond of creating callbacks and running themes esp. with couples, I think that they could very much mirror the scene when Arizona came back from Africa, just minus them trying to get back together
I think they'd draw out the whole will they won't they for at least a season. they made such a fuss over their breakups that it seems like there'd be a lot of obstacles
I also think that it'd be kinda interesting to have Callie be jealous for a change. Arizona was jealous at different points, and often for valid reasons, but she was always belittled for her insecurity. It'd be v interesting to see how Callie would react to Eliza for instance and how Arizona would operate in that space
okay think I got all of my thoughts on this out, but boy oh boy did the writers screw them over
#i particularly hate penny#not bc she's a bad person#but bc she's dull and callie acts dumb#she's in such a different place in life from callie and even the chemistry is weird#and i also will fully defend eliza and carina's relationships with Arizona as very important#bc honestly callie did a total number on Arizona#i think the moral of the story is callie's character got butchered in s12 but there is a lot of ways she could've grown alongside arizona#anon#no post on sundays

Japril The Sims Project - Aprilās Room
[Included in Jacksonās House - s13 (level floor)]
Story
April moved back into Jacksonās house after the Montana/Maggie/Matthew fiasco was all cleared out (read x,Ā x, x etc). Even though they were working things out and were sleeping together at nights, April still spent a lot of time in her old room. Jacksonās bedroom was bigger and far more elegant, but her room always held a special place in her heart. When they had first had Harriet and she had moved in with him, he had allowed her to make any changes to it she wished, and she hadnāt missed a heartbeat. The creative person she was, she changed the entire place completely, making it so her that Jackson couldnāt bring himself to change a single thing about it even after she moved out... even with Maggie around. Aprilās room was left completely untouched and unused, waiting for her to come back; just like Jacksonās heart. He wouldnāt have it any other way... even including those stupid throw pillows.
Series VS Sims Pictures
The idea was to create a copy of the original Greyās Anatomy set in The Sims 3. However most of the time, and this is no exception, we are shown only bits and pieces of a room, and thus the result isnāt 100% accurate. In addition I am obviously not a professional of any short, this is something I do just for fun.
All those aside, here are a couple of comparisons from the original set and the Sims one.
Note: All screenshots from the series are from the opening scene of episode 13x15. I have partially cut the characters out of the images so that the background is clear, but other than that the images havenāt been modified in any way.
Little Details
Nighty, nighty!
April is the cutest when she sleeps, and Jackson can back that up. But she is also thoroughly organized even then. A well-made bed with no wrinkles on the sheets is a must for a goodnightās sleep. And so are many fluffy pillows for cuddling (can be replaced by a certain someone *cough**cough*) and a warm and cozy blanket with floral patterns because itās April we are talking about here. Those noisy slippers have to be neatly placed on the side of the bed, her gray robe waiting on the hanger for the morning, and thereās always a glass of water on her nightstand just in case she wakes up thirsty during the night; waking Harriet is definitely not something she is interested into. Organized as she is even in this department however, she is ridiculously messy once finally asleep. Her hair is all over the place, her limbs fly to all directions, she cuddles everything within reach and yes, she snores. Jackson made the mistake of pointing that out once... letās just say he should have known better.
Fun fact: That painting above her bed was originally in the Japril Apartment back in seasons 10-12. Specifically it was located in Japrilās bedroom, right above their dresser.
Feels like home.
It is common knowledge that April is a nature freak. Being born inside a barn (she is the one she was talking about in 12x24, fight me) and growing up in a farm in Moline, it was sort of inevitable. As a child she used to spend a great amount of time walking in the woods, her favorite sound the rustling of the aspensā leaves as the wind blew through them. It makes you wonder if the tale of the little red riding hood was written for her; she sure owns the color.
Long story short, nature lives inside her, and it sure reflects on the way she decorated her room. As long as actual living creatures are not crawling around inside, Jackson is fine with it.
Organization is the key.
If youāve met April, then you probably already know what her desk looks like. Simple but effective is the motto here, and not a single thing is out of place. She keeps her files in folders in alphabetical order, and she uses markers and post its in such a degree itās ridiculous and adorable all the same. Her Bible is also in reach, always coming handy. And is that a red little notebook over there? You can bet that it is.
Did anyone say throw pillows?
Thereās a little āhideā in one corner of the room, a round loveseat filled with endless throw pillows, in a classic April fashion. Of them, starring is a handmade one she made herself in the shape of an apple; a reference to the one nickname she was once given that she actually liked. The walls behind are wooden, one full of classical works of literature that satisfy her romantic nature, the other proudly displaying a collage of Aprilās most treasured memories. Located right next to the fireplace, itās the ideal corner for cold winter nights of book reading, a hot cocoa, and maybe a couple of fortune cookies just for the shake of it.
Speaking of memories...
April is always thankful for everything she is given, but there is nothing she feels more blessed for than the people closest to her. Collages are her thing too, so whatās more natural than a wall collage of her most treasured memories taking up an entire wall? Itās mostly consisted of her friends and family... who arenāt all necessary human. April didnāt think she overdid it with this project. Jackson kind of did, but he had an enormous smile on his face for the entire day when he first saw it, so he never said anything. He secretly loves it, but donāt let anyone know. Also donāt let them know the name of that pig.
Thereās a pic of April and her father on her dresser as well. Her almost-wedding to Matthew once upon a time wasnāt such a fun story to tell, but it was the only time her father got to walk her down the aisle. She hoped she would get the chance to update the photo though, if and when she and Jackson got married once again.
Note that she loves music boxes. There are three here, one with a ballerina, one with a unicorn and one with a fluffy bunny; the latter being her favorite.
And last but not least, that trip to Montana -even though for a while it had unfortunately been given a meaning completely different than it was supposed to- was a real turning point for Japrilās relationship. No blood no fool however, and since everything had been cleared out they could only look back at it as a time of real bonding, deep connection, and brilliant make-up sex.
So thatās about it for Aprilās room! Thank you guys for sticking around through this narration, I definitely enjoyed creating this room and I hope the results are satisfying to your eyes as well. Let me know what you think!
See ya <3

Thoughts onĀ āDestiel is Real.ā
So, Iāve been relatively scarce of late (except for when I went bonkers with reblogging deadly Cockles content...which I think I blacked out from b/c it was like being waaayyyy too high and itās all their fault) because, if yāall donāt know, I have stage 4 breast cancer and am in chemo. Iām tolerating it really well but it takes a surprising amount of time, actually, especially since Iām still working 80% time and also living alone so doing house stuff etc.Ā
This is all to say that Iām weighing in on things belatedly a lot. Like, I do still want to analyze the Cockles JIB panel as a whole b/c, oh my, was there a lot there. But today I will settle for this piece of it. I apologize if this is reduplicating what smart folks said elsewhere right when it happened. I was also off Twitter to avoid having it bring me down so I might just be really unaware. But as soon as this moment happened I was like,Ā āoh man weāre gonna argue about this for like 84 years.ā So hereās my small contribution on what this reminded me of.
To me, listening to Jensen and watching him engage the crowd, inspired a lot of anxiety b/c it did definitely seem like he was pissed off. I just couldnāt tell with what or who, especially given firsthand context from some folks in the room like @bluestar86ā who wrote this account:Ā https://twitter.com/bluestar861/status/1130255687290937344?s=21Ā about the general positivity Jensen and Misha had shown earlier (which is why Misha mentioned the shirt) and how the energy in the room was almost entirely positive. I totally believe that. But it didnāt reconcile easily with what I felt I saw from Jensen.
Until I remembered SDCC 2011. The one where Misha had been fired and all of them knew but none of the fans do. I wrote a long meta on that panel that Iām actually super happy with so maybe check it out? Anyway, this is how I described some of the dynamics:
The way everyone is sitting at this table isolates Sera and the body language from Jared and Jensen is openly hostile. Jensen especially pushes himself as far away as possible, defensively crosses his arms, leans away, doesnāt make any eye contact. Jared is also pissed and is functionally shielding Misha with his body while he does the first Cas question. Both of them are very protective and Jensen is more than a little hostile. They also both keep egging the audience on in their love for Cas/Misha, as when Jensen shouts āYEAH!ā in affirmation of audience shrieks about the character. They want to show Sera what a piss poor decision it was to take Misha away from the fansā¦and from them. Whatever else you see happening these are some amazing friends. Ā
So, we had a remarkably angry Jensen at this panel and he was angry specifically because the network had made what he considered--both professionally and personally--to be a fucking terrible decision. But he couldnāt say that. Heās got NDAs and stuff to worry about. So instead he settled, among other things, from egging the audience on to show how much they loved and wanted more Castiel.Ā
Now Iām not saying the correlation is 1-1 with Destiel. But I am suggesting a thought experiment where something similar could be going on. And byĀ āsomething similarā I meanĀ āJensen has inside knowledge about a thing the network has decided that he thinks is fucking stupid and that will hurt the fandom.āĀ Like, oh for example, theyāre not moving Destiel out of the subtext.
Additional fuel for this fire. Many have speculated that itās network president Mark Pedowitz whoās the blocker. Jensen, earlier in the panel, asks the audience to applaud Pedowitz. Thatās weird and heās never done it before. True, Jared was talking about how Pedowitz says that they set examples for other shows and that Pedowitz is complimenting them on it so it was at least that in part. But Jensen is MASTERFUL at throwing shade while appearing to be doing the correct, professional thing. Witness his comments about Bob Singer and last yearās S13 finale. Heās done it with Eugenie and Sera too and probably others I donāt know about. Having the audience applaud Pedowitz if he knows something negative about Pedowitz--something the audience wonāt like and that will actively hurt many of them--has a major bite of irony that I feel Jensen is perfectly capable of trying to engineer.Ā (Or maybe there hasnāt been a final decision but he knows it doesnāt look good and why. Donāt lose hope! This is just speculation and a thought experiment.)
Iām going to put the JIB analysis under a cut, since itās long and has lots of images. It ends withĀ āThe most similar behavior I saw was Jensen angrily getting the audience to cheer for something, even doing the same hand-raising gesture. In 2011 it was Castiel (āGo on! Show Sera how much you love the character she killled!ā) and this time it was Destiel (āGo on! Show the network how much you love the ship they wonāt textualize!ā). Thatās what made me think, initially, that he may know something about plans for Destiel that a) makes him mad, b) that he considers a bad decision by the network, c) that he thinks that audience will be hurt by.ā
Anyway,
If you watch the JIB panelĀ (starting about 12 mins in) you see, first, that Jensen wants Misha not to bring it up. He raises his hand at Misha which I first thought was him being likeĀ āshhhhhh donāt bring that up!ā but which on repeat viewing I think was him actually just trying to get Misha to shut up so he could literally try to understand what she was saying. Once the audience reacts to Mishaās comment these are their faces:
Jared is absolutely looking at Misha like,Ā ādude, why did you have to go and do that? You just threw a live grenade onstage.ā Jensen is hamming it up gesturing at the audience to scream louder.Ā
Jared changes his face toĀ āwell, when youāre right, youāre right! What are you gonna do.ā
Hereās Jensen. Heās looking grumpy. Now, is it fake grumpy, a recognized and favored persona that he has. Or is it actually grumpy? Or is it bothā
I think itās both. But I also think he looks sad. And concerned. Like, on behalf of the audience not for him. Now you can say Iām projecting if you want--this is all total rampant speculation--but look at his eyes. I think heās upset that he has to talk about this at all (since he knows a little about the fandom conflict it sets off) but thereās something else.Ā
He pauses for a good, long time looking at the audience responding. And according to Saz and others the response was HUGELY POSITIVE! So why does he then announce into the mic with a grumpy fake laugh and what I honestly have to call sarcasm,Ā āDestiel is real!āĀ
Note that Misha is not worried by this. If Jensen were actually legitimately furious I think Misha would look a little worried. But instead he looks amused and curious about where this is going.
This is Jensen askingĀ āIs it?ā for the first time. He looks intentionally confused - thatās the bit heās doing.Ā
Hereās Jensen after the audience starts to audibly yellĀ āNooooo!!ā His face saysĀ āWHAAAAAAT!?ā
People then yellĀ āyesā to drown them out and he asks,Ā āWhere?ā
SecondĀ āwhere?ā. Maybe heās trying to get them to sayĀ āsubtextā - a word the cast has great familiarity with and which was used inĀ āFan Fictionā and which they can joke around a lot about. Thatās my guess. Maybe he has a subtext joke set up he wants to do with Misha. (Remember his tweet to Misha duringĀ āFan Fiction: āyou keep your subtext to yourself. Iām not that kind of girl. Wait...ā)
They donāt - at least not clearly. Someone in the front row says,Ā āNowhere.ā Misha says,Ā āHelpā (after mouthing something at someone in the audience that is probablyĀ āIām sorry about this.ā Jensen checks on Misha BUT disregards the fact that heās looking over at the question-asker (who didnāt even ASK a Destiel question, just wear a shirt she liked) and asksĀ āWhere?ā AGAIN.
Misha then takes things in hand and reaches out to tell Jensen,Ā ādonāt get into a fight with these people.ā Jared is making aĀ āYikes!ā face at the person in the first row who is continually yellingĀ āNowhere!ā.Ā
Jensen does sit down, but heās mad. Heās really tense and it takes him a while to shake it off.Ā
Whoās he tense with? The most obvious answer is the audience but letās consider a couple things. 1) The audience was giving a mixed answer, including and sometimes more loudly theĀ āNowhere!ā that you would think Jensen would want to hear IF he were angry/tense about theĀ āDestiel is realā shirt or the audienceās support of it. 2) He was demanding consensus and an answer to where it was real EITHER to have them sayĀ ānowhereā--which they did so why not just stop?--OR to get them to say something likeĀ āsubtextā to lead them into either a question or a bit about it.
So why keep pushing? Hoping to change the answer? Hoping to find consensus? Or maybe just hoping to get them to make a lot of noise about it for a long time (at which he succeeded). Now, Jensen is famously inconsistent about Destiel and also famously different onstage, especially for J2 audiences...though this, the most Holy Gay panel of all the panels, isnāt a place heād shy away from, e.g.Ā āWhat would Dean and Cas do on a trip to Rome? Everything I think of right now is inappropriate.āĀ
Which brings us back toĀ āwhoās he tense withā? Could it be only part of the audience? Which part? The part yellingĀ ānowhereā or the part yelling whatever positive things they were yelling? Iām going to hypothesize, based on a LOT of other stuff that Iāve written about, that heās annoyed with the negative folks spoiling it for everyone with theirĀ ānowheresā and is trying to get the positive folks to drown them out and give him a good answer he can run with.Ā
The fact that nothing coherent emerges is actually what gets him annoyed. And, by extension, the volume and persistence of that small part of the audience, which lets people like Pedowitz shoot down the idea of textual Destiel as something the viewersĀ ādonāt want,ā annoys the living shit out of him because he sees the viewers all the time and knows that a majority of them either are ok with or actively want textual Destiel.Ā Ā I imagine him thinking something along the lines of, āWhy canāt these nice people just have what they want? Itās b/c of assholes like you.ā
He definitely lets his emotions get the better of him. He was already not in the best place, thanks to circumstances I hope to write about later but which boil down to having his special panel with Misha (that he was visibly psyched for from the moment he got onstage,Ā āI always have so much fun with you!ā) taken away because he got some awkward wood from being choked and straddled. So with that grumpiness he was primed not to make the best decisions. He gets aggressive and confrontational when heās pissed, which is a thing I donāt love about him, even though itās very easy to see why, and maybe this was just his battleground of choice.Ā
To get back to the thought experiment about whether this is like SDCC 2011, though, I think it could be. I think itās far more complex, given all the discourse surrounding Destiel and Jensenās own sexuality. (Hereās a post I wrote in response to a question about Jensen and Destiel and bi!Dean that asked whether I thought he experienced them as about himself and Misha.) Itās tough, b/c each piece of evidence could go both ways (ha). Either mentioning Pedowitz for applause is excellent shade or total sincerity. Either Jensen is mad at the pro-Destiel audience and trying to get them to admit that theyāre wrong, or heās mad at the antis and trying to get them drowned out.Ā
The most similar behavior I saw was Jensen angrily getting the audience to cheer for something, even doing the same hand-raising gesture. In 2011 it was Castiel (āGo on! Show Sera how much you love the character she killled!ā) and this time it was Destiel (āGo on! Show the network how much you love the ship they wonāt textualize!ā). Thatās what made me think, initially, that he may know something about plans for Destiel that a) makes him mad, b) that he considers a bad decision by the network, c) that he thinks that audience will be hurt by.
Given his shift in attitude overall and the mood of the room as described by attendees, it seems plausible to me that his engagement was a performance, using the audience, of what it is the viewers ACTUALLY want. But it could also just have been a grouchy Jensen taking it out on an old, familiar punching bag - the topic he never wants to discuss onstage - Destiel.

I've noticed you're watching/blogging about spn again and I was just wondering- is it worth it to pick up the show again? I stopped after season 12, but it looks like it might be idk not shit right now? Should I start again?
oh my god ok ok ok SHORT ANSWER: YES IT IS
LONG ANSWER (ur not obligated to read this, u can skip to the end, i just like talking about s13):
alright so with the two disclaimers that
ALL tv INCLUDING spn is better when binged bc you dont have a week or more to mull over what the episodes did wrong/what you would have preferred & you can get past bad episodes more quickly
season 13 is DIFFERENT
then i would say that yes season 13 is as good as or almost as good as the āoriginalā 1-5 (i did binge watch all of 12-14 to be fair and i have REALLY mixed feelings about 12 so)
i got a big long post here gushing about the thing in s13 i loved although it does contain some pretty big if vague/nonspecific spoilers (cause like we all already knew that dean ____ ___ __ _______ at the end, right? and damn, that was good.)
but the nonspoilery tl;dr of it is: higher production values (at least to my untrained eyes - the score is notably better, thereās better backdrops/scenery that is actually pretty a lot of the time, the fight scenes are less boring), a multi-seasonal villain/arc, actual emotional repercussions for shit that get talked about and last for more than 1-2 eps, dean lowkey learned to talk about his feelings, they unfridged several of my favorite ladies (spoilers but: billie, rowena, and kinda charlie) & gave them development & thereās a lot more women-who-dont-die-focused content overall (the wayward sister pilot was actually pretty good??)
the Big Difference is that they ditched crowley at the end of 12 (which didnt bother me much bc i didnt rly care for him) and now they got jack? and jack is different, itās weird seeing sam dean & cas be dads, but amazingly enough after the initial bumps in the road they are GOOD dads, and itās really gratifying to watch them get to have that covetedĀ āfamily lifeā theyāve been after for so long, even if it isnāt exactly how any of them would have pictured it. i get the feeling that jack is really divisive for most people but honestly even though i tried to hate him i really like him - heās very refreshing, we gets nice callbacks to the arcs sam & dean & cas have had in seasons past and itās a nice way to nod to how far theyāve come and itās also really neat to get to watch them talk about each other TO other people - it feels so much less isolated and insular than spn of seasons past, and yeah, thatās different, but after over a decade they kinda needed change to keep it from getting stale
so far, season 14 (currently airing) has been almost as good as 13 - the last few episodes were a littleā¦??? wrt: the big plot, but iām gonna wait on the whole season before i pass judgment, bc usually the weakest episodes of a season are in the dips between the start and the middle or the middle and the end (which is where we are now)
[LONG ANSWER OVER]
if it would help you, i madeĀ
a big hecking spreadsheet of every spn episode ever made and whether itās worth watching or not
and you can check that out and maybe use it as a guide if you want!! it is Uh extremely detailed. honestly, iād definitely try going into 13 with an opening mind and low expectations - youāll probably be pleasantly surprised
#plsdontfightme#spn#spn spoilers#kinda#liz watches spn#liz answers asks#sorry this answer is so long#i just wanna talk about spn all the time like it's 2010 again

Re: your tags on that jack/amara post. Now the show totally got me to like Jack rather instantly as well but I cant help but feel like it was too easy, his actions during s12 werent realy adressed imo, he didnt really earn the "family" TFW status to the degree the show is framing it for me and there wasnt the dubious moral complexity early in s13 like s12 was setting up. Idk does that make sense?
Yep, it makes total sense and I agree. When the first few episodes aired and Jack was obviously framed as a lovable innocent, I expected them to pull the rug under our feet at some point- not necessarily to make JackĀ āevilā (that was clearly not going to happen) but to question assumptions and, well, make both the viewers, the characters, Jack himself question his actions and his goals and everything. Itās sort of like season 12 was likeĀ āis this thing evil....?ā and the twist wasĀ ālol no!ā but the twist came in like 2 minutes into the premiere or so. In Kaiaās episode, the twist was again that he did not kill Derek the dreamwalker...
JackāsĀ ādarknessā were mistakes. He accidentally killed the security guard when trying to stop a robber. He accidentally got soldiers killed when he made the wrong tactical choice in the war against Michael (it was revealed as wrong because of the Kevin trap, and a trap by definition... is hard to spot before you fall in it). Other things were naivety, which is not exactly darkness (naivety/innocence are potential for darkness, but the show didnāt really go ultra deep in that).
Every other main character has been through actualĀ ādarknessā. The Carver era in a nutshell was that - Deanās, Samās and Casā darkness explored. Casā self-loathing and depression stemmed from his inability to belong, Samās unhealthy attitudes towards himself (the trials) and his brother (*waves around*), Deanās lack of self-worth that turn him into a tool-weapon/the lock to the literal Darkness (insert billions of words of meta here).
The Carver era was about them messing things up royally to the point that we were supposed to think, are these people righteous? are they right? At times we were supposed to be horrified by their choices. Some people grew actually uncomfortable with the show because the main characters were... unlikeable. Not heroes.
But that was supposed to be the foundation for a new journey upwards - the release of the Darkness (Iām not going into the topic of when exactly they decided to make the MoC the lock-and-key for the Darkness) was supposed to symbolize the externalization of their own darknesses to deal with them.
I think Carverās mistake was primarily one: making the Darkness solely about Dean. Sam remained in a weird limbo for most of the season, and for Cas they had to bring Lucifer into the picture as the narrative tool to represent Casā issues (corollary mistake: Lucifer). I think they should have managed to make the Darkness about all of them, in a way or another (they almost did so by having Dean carry the Mark and Sam and Cas undo it, but that second part got dropped). Of course, I understand why theyād do that - having the Darkness as the dark, irrational, feminine, destructive principle of the cosmos inevitably means she is aligned to Dean. But then they should have developed things so that Dean-Darkness and Sam-God, but God was finally introduced when the season was almost over and things needed to happen and it was late.
Oh jeez, talk about digressing...
I think I never let go of my post-season 10 finale expectations, because boy, I was excited. The season only partly met my expectations. *screams into the showrunnersā direction* Iām still waiting for my big witchcraft storyline, guys!
So, Carver era, inner darkness, outer Darkness. Main characters who SCREW UP BIG TIME. I mean... it was a bad decision for extra-diegetical reasons, and executed poorly, but Charlieās death did make sense in that perspective. Whatās more rock bottom than getting Charlie killed? It was supposed to be the horrifying,Ā āoh shitā version of Bennyās sacrifice. Benny had reasons to die, they got a beautiful goodbye, all made sense. But it was a slippery slope- and now Charlie dies, and itās bad, itās ugly, it makes no sense.
If Dante had written me into the Divine Comedy he wouldāve put me in the circle of hell for digressers.
Anyway. Carver era, darkness.
And then seasons 12 and 13. Theyāre growing, so their mistakes are not as big and destructive as before. In fact, other people mess up more.Ā Sam goes along with the BMoL because Mary made the mistake, and he just wants to connect with his Mom. Cas is trying to make up for letting Lucifer free and fails, because Crowley makes the mistake of keeping Lucifer around. Dean is there doing his best and getting slaps in the face, because his life sucks. His prayer to God in 13x01 is GOOD STUFF. Anyway. They still struggle with themselves and their traumas that prevent them from having healthy relationships (Iām not saying the Dabb era is bad, I am really enjoying things). Insert more meta here.
Now enters Jack, who is supposed to be a mirror of Dean, Sam and Cas. Whereās the darkness? WHEREāS THE FUNDAMENTAL POINT OF HORROR ABOUT HIS EXISTENCE aka his ambiguous and scary relationship with free will? Dean, Sam and Casā struggle is with FREE WILL. Always has been. Genuine choice against the determination caused by their traumas even before by external forces. Dean telling Amara and Chuck to reconcile represented that - refusing to go along with the determinism of their essences (creation and destruction) and choose their own path.
Jack... weāre technically told that he refuses to go along the determinism of his Satanic heritage, but thatās... not really true. He is much more framed as a blank slate than a creature with an evil essence in him. Thatās what he fears, others fear (or hope in Luciferās case), but heās never tempted by his own inner darkness. Lucifer almost tricks him eventually for a moment, but itās a trick, something he achieves with lies and manipulation, not really reaching to Jackās inner evil potential.
There was potential to make his story a horror story without making him evil or bad. Look at season 12 and the way he ambiguously uses people for, well, good purposes - saving Kelly, saving Cas. There was potential there! He has good intentions, and does things with good outcomes, but at the cost of messing up with peopleās free will in an ambiguous, eerie way.
Thatās it, he could have been EERIE. Sinister and terrifying because heās lovable and has the best intentions... but also does disturbing things. Technically it sort of happened, but wasnāt really explored properly - see the analyses we made after 13x09 but that were never proved right or wrong. In fact, there was an element that rang bells at the end of the season - when he forces the truth about Maggieās murder out of Lucifer. That was the final proof that Jack is perfectly able to annul someoneās free will completely. But what about the entire season prior, and even the time as a fetus? It just stays something in the mouth of a Dean whose grief is used to make him unreliable.
I guess the mistake here is not making Jack a new Amara, instead. As @awed-frog eloquently said, the two had a lot in common in their narratives, but then a lot completely divergent. Jack should have been about free will like Amara was, and how season 12 almost hinted at - like Amara made Deanās free will compass go haywire, it seemed that proximity to Jack made Casā free will compass go haywire. But then Cas was dead and even when he came back, Jackās story had been written in a complete different direction. They could have structured season 13 so that Jack was Samās Amara instead (it would have made sense to have Sam not deal with sexually-coded manipulation from a woman, since he already has that with Ruby in the past, and instead be something new and fresh for his character), if they wanted to make Jack and Samās narratives close, but at some point theyāve just made the decision to have Sam be the Real Dad in contrast to Luciferās biological fatherhood.
Basically, I think, they realized that they had to give Sam a strong narrative that placed him as the antagonist of Lucifer, so they kind of shoved Cas out of Jackās narrative (with awkward results - um weāre supposed to be son and father but err what) and made the fatherhood narrative about Sam. With awkward results. Narratively, Sam And Cas Are A Kidās Dads is... not really a brilliant idea.
Maybe Michael Dean is the result of the showrunners realizing that on paper giving narratives to Sam and Cas and not only to Dean (like Carver tended to do at times) is good, but in reality the show works best when things are about Dean, so now Letās Have A Dean Centric Arc. I guess?
I havenāt really talked about the extradiegetic aspect of the strong pushing of Jack/Alex Calvert, but I donāt think thereās much to say about it. Fan reception was immediately super positive, and 28 year old Misha Collins clone is sort of a safe bet, you know? The network seems to believe that fans want young pretty white boys, and itās not reaaaally like they got that idea out of their hat, you know?

Why do you hate Jack so much?? Like what has he ever done but make s13 interesting unlike the past couple season šāļø
Sighā¦ Do I really want to go into thisā¦ or do I just reply with āI donāt like Jack because I watched season 12 (and 4. and 5)ā and give 0 fucksā¦ Alright, Iām going to answer this as politely and constructively as I can and Iām only going to talk about this once, so read carefully. Some unpopular opinions under the cut, donāt go there if you donāt like rants or donāt want to get your Jack-loving feelings hurt.
Itās not that I donāt like the dude because heās a ābad guyā or a āvillainā or whatever - surprisingly, because everyone thinks this is the main reason. Iāll let you know I actually love villains. I donāt like Jack in general, I donāt like his lack of personality, I donāt like the way the writers built him as a character - he literally gets on my nerves just by saying āCastiel-styleā lines, I cringe every time. He acts and talks like very discount Castiel (I said āveryā because thereās so much more to Castielās character than, you know, a cute, adorably clueless nerd that takes most things literally), he looks like a cheap 90s Leo DiCaprio rip-off lol, thereās literally nothing about him thatās original or new/fresh. To me heās just a poor imitation. Itās like the writers were like āCas isnāt going to be in the first few episodes of season 13 so hey, how about we replace him with a mini-Cas, but like a demo version, minus the badassness and plus the crybabyness (crybabyness is a word, leave me alone)? This way, we wonāt have to waste time creating an entirely new, unique character that could actually be interesting and also, everyone in this fandom loves helpless manbabies so theyāre gonna love it!ā ā¦And forget everything that happened in s12.
Now letās get into the second reason, regarding season 12 itself - the inconsistency. Jack clearly brainwashed both his mother and Castiel. I already talked about it but Iām going to repeat for the sake of this post. The manipulation was so clear and obvious, I canāt comprehend how no one is questioning this anymore. The change in Cas and Kellyās behavior was so sudden, they both unexpectedly started to act like theyād lost their minds! Did you see the look on Castielās face when he said he āsaw paradiseā? The fuck was that? Because it sure as hell wasnāt a genuine Casā smile, last time he smiled like that was when he thought he was God. Also, Dean himself said he ādidnāt recognize the guy staring back at himā and if anyone in the show knows Cas better than anyone else, itās Dean - and Iām not saying this as a shipper, itās a fact that Dean and Castielās relationship is something special, different and āprofoundā so if Dean says somethingās off - somethingās clearly off. Not to mention the change in Castielās behavior is extremely out of character, since heās literally rebelled against the idea of paradise on Earth. Heās fallen because he didnāt want paradise. Seriously, does no one remember season 4 anymore? It wasnāt paradise that Castiel fought for, it was freedom. Then, the reason Castiel wanted to get out of The Empty was Sam and Dean, he didnāt even think about Jack, not until Sam mentioned him, even though last season he got away from the bros because Luciferās kid needed him. Now he suddenly feels responsible for him again. Itās soā¦ confusing??? Consistency who?
One of the grossest things about Jack is the fact that he brought Kelly back to life when she tried to kill herself because he needed her alive to be born. However, he didnāt try to bring her back when he Ā was being born. He only kept her alive because she was useful and then just let her die. He treated her like āa containerā, as Lucifer himself said. I canāt even stress how disgusting this is. I feel fucking sick whenever he talks about his mother, making this sad poop face. The mother he brainwashed, used and left to fucking die. āHe didnāt know how to do itā - oh? So his ability to control his powers suddenly regressed or what? Speaking of - in the last episode we find out that apparently Jack hardly remembers anything Ā from when he was in the womb - and yet, when he was still in the womb, somehow he was developed enough to: manipulate Cas and Kelly, convince Cas to protect him by showing him a vision of paradise, bring Kelly back to life, understand that Dagon was evil and know what to do in order to kill her. He knew and understood all of these things, but now somehow he barely knows how to move a fucking pencil? AND turns out he actually can fly but kept it a secret? Thatās sketchy as hell, isnāt that even remotely alarming to you? Thereās something incredibly unsettling and deceitful about Jack and it creeps me the fuck out.
I hate the way the fandom keeps infantilizing him, too. Jesus Christ, Iām so fed up with people calling him a āprecious cinnamon roll too pure for this world uwuwuwuwu" etc. ughhhhā¦ Where do I sign a petition for people to never use this expression to describe a character ever againā¦ Notice how the reason people love Jack so much isnāt that heās a complex, unique character. They love him becauseā¦ sometimesā¦ he talks like Casā¦ Tell me one trait that Jack has that isnāt copied from Cas and isnāt ācomplaining about being a monster all the fucking timeā. Listen, I didnāt even have a strong opinion on Jack at first. I started watching season 13 with a āmehā/neutral attitude. Wasnāt excited about him, didnāt really hate him either. But now I see that theyāre really going with this gross Daddy!Cas thing and Iām just not gonna buy this bullshit. I canāt stand seeing my favourite character on the show being destroyed like that.
I hate the way the fandom gave Dean shit for distrusting Jack. Iāve never seen more Dean hate in my life and itās all because of some whiny dude whoās only been in the show for a few episodes. Gross. Dean had every right to hate the dude. The third paragraph explaines why.
āJackās just a kidā - no, the point is, heās fucking not. He said himself that he literally ācouldnāt be a baby or a childā. Jack is a fully grown person with a fully-developed brain and is fully capable of analizing and comprehending his actions so justifying the things heās done with āheās just a kidā is justā¦ dumb. Ā I hate how everyone justifies the fact that he killed an innocent person just because heās not capable of controlling his powers yet, likeā¦ If youāre not sure you can control your powers, donāt fucking use them? Itās as simple as that. [more on this subject: here] His brain is nothing like a kidās brain, so donāt try to sell me this āheās just a month oldā bullshit.
Did he āmake s13 interesting unlike the past couple seasonāā¦? Um, I think the fuck not? He didnāt bring anything new to the show and Iāve already explained why I think so. I mean, itās kind of a relative thing to say, donāt you think? He probably did for the people who like him. For me - meh, I didnāt give a shit when I first saw 13x01, maybe was a little bit intrigued even, because I thought heād give off a more dangerous/villainous vibe. But then all he really did was whine about how supposedly bad he is??? Ā Personally, I find his constant pity parties tiring and boring as fuck, but to each their own I guess.
On a side note, though, I donāt even think season 12 was bad. Not my favourite, but definitely not the worst. I know a lot of people didnāt enjoy it, but Iād say itās actually in my top 6. I mean, Iām not a fan of the MoL plotline but overall, it had some good episodes. Will season 13 be better? Weāll see. If it will, it wonāt be because of Jack - at least to me. I hope youāre satisfied with this response, I know itās a bit messy but I did my best. Have a nice day.
so anyway, fuck Jackās hypocritical overrated ass lmao

s13:
hi okay i kept talking in the tags on my last post so here is more about s13 predictions ig
like i said we all know den literally can't function without mac it's been proven several times in the show
CLEARLY in mac & dennis break up
& my thought is how this will affect s13
so like,,,they're lying if they're gonna try & pretend like dennis can actually cope w/o mac if anything i think he needs him more than ever rn. even if dennis miraculously developed quickly & amazingly enough 2 be a dad that doesn't change how much he depends on mac. boy couldn't live without him in s5, and he was still like, okay then? obviously none of these characters r okay but i've seen only a few ppl mention dennis in the latest seasons. consequently mac seems happier this past season especially now that he's out which is great (i mean then u have DDL & then that kinda shattered but let's not mention that rn) but like we know dennis has been like,,,ragin' a lot more & he was diagnosed in s10 & we haven't really seen him happy in awhile like compared 2 earlier seasons when he seemed more calm & happy. what he thinks he needs is to leave his old life behind but what he actually needs, probably, is the gang rn more than ever but ofc he's not gonna admit that! so he run!
there's a number of reasons why i can't see them letting den be gone for any length of time but the main one being that it just doesn't make sense? like frank said u can't just go be a dad & he was right, & even if i think dennis could be capable of that it's obvious he's getting Worse & to be away from his friends, his family rn is not gonna help that, especially when we know he would be miserable in ND which is literally essentially what he says in 10.01 when he gets off the plane. i'm not a dumbass who thinks he's a sociopath & i know he has big feelings but i still don't see this being a situation where a child is magically the thing 2 crack dennis & fix all his problems
so like, there's my argument based on just the POV of the setting. now let's go back 2 den himself. like i said it definitely seems like he's getting worse, & him admitting that he has feelings was a huge, pivotal thing for him especially to admit that to the entire gang. from there they could use that to finally get den's character to open up a lil more & not try to suppress everything which i think is essentially why he seems worse? he wants to be one way & not feel & it's affecting him as it has over the years. we also know from mac, that he's been distant w him. whether u ship them or not they have a connection that's different from all the rest. so mac senses that den is acting different& like pushing him away, & we know it's not bc he's gay cuz den always knew that. this is where theories come into play, cuz it could have to do w den's feelings & trying to push the gang away so that he can pretend everything is okay which i think is a reasonable guess, or if u wanna add another layer to that there's also been the mention of him being uncomfortable with mac being out because now he's scared of mac's feelings & his own feelings.
it could be bc of the thing b/w them, or just the different connection that they have, but mac is the only one who says anything about dennis being distant. so is he only being distant w mac, or do the others just not notice bc they're not mac? either way mac is the one who notices & he's gonna be the first one to notice things going on w dennis. den has been like on a downward spiral almost & i think the RPG & brian jr just brought that to a head, & he runs, supposedly 2 deal w the latter. (i'm sorry i'm referring 2 a fuckin baby like it's a war crime but i don't evenl like them anyway so it's fine)
like depending on how u wanna interpret it, RPG=dennis realizing how he feels about mac, or how mac feels about him, or just the fact that he was all upset about vday only 2 find out mac got him what he wanted more than anythin & it didn't even matter 2 him that there wasn't a rocket bc it was the gesture so i mean interpret that how u will but FEELINGS
& then brian jr=who he apparently knew about but only becomes a problem bc mandy all of a sudden decides 2 show up & also thinks he's someone else so i really still don't understand some of the logic behind this event but anyhow. he's like noticeably v on edge this ep bc he literally had no idea how 2 get out of it & then all of a sudden he's like wait no i don't want to, but that's not the only thing? pretending to be in a relationship w mac & mac telling him he wanted 2 fake it & raise the kid w him was obviously also adding onto that & still his response was "im not gonna PRETEND to be in a relationship w u for the entirety of my child's life" so again interpret that how u will but...obviously we know he decides 2 go raise brian jr
but he's not gonna be able to do that. not bc he's not capable. i'd like 2 point out he left everyone & everything behind including his RPG & his beloved range rover, so i mean he prob left everything at his apartment too. (i have some theories bout this but it is not the time for those) like his car. is still in philly. his decision is made essentially on a whim after a moment w his kid & like an existential crisis while his friends danced around him bc up until that point he just didn't wanna deal w it
so it could've been like a few hours b/w those scenes but it's still a pretty impulsive decision considering it's a child, a new state you don't even like, a lovely woman ur not interested in, and leaving your friends, family, job, and entire life back in philly. maybe he also thinks it'll help him w his feelings. but he's been repressing shit for at least 12 years that we've seen (we know it's been longer like prob his whole life) & noticeably been getting worse, gives a sudden revelation to his friends about his feelings, & then leaves. that's not...okay. like we know they all have trauma & ridiculously unhealthy coping mechanisms but even if u take everything else away he's not gonna be happy having suppressed all his emotions and problems & then leaving having barely dealt with them w the others at all.
especially mac, who's a huge part of this which u can't deny even if u don't ship them. now i do so like my comments are gonna sway a bit more but i think it'll still work even if u don't agree w me on that aspect. personally i think there could be some sort of parallel there about how mac has gotten happier, while dennis has been more unhappy? like mac comes out & u could even argue dennis being jealous & acting that way bc he wants 2 come out & he's been suppressing that for so long but he's still not at a place rn to do it. or even the fact that mac feels more open & free to be himself while dennis feels the complete opposite & if anything has felt like repressing things even more, while mac mentions being sensitive (12.08 hints he feels more free 2 be sensitive now that he's out & doesn't have 2 worry about being so masculine so that he won't be called gay) & dennis mentions his big feelings but he's still not rlly talking about anything bc i mean u don't really just reveal everything suddenly. so especially in that regard he definitely needs mac.
like not only bc of their connection but bc he depends so much on mac & now mac feels more open & honest & i really think den needs to be around him more, not pushing him away (which could also be why) bc he needs to see how much happier mac is & how he's changed & maybe it'll help him open up more, & if anything mac would probably be the best one for him to do that w anyway.
i'm also gonna mention my sort of views on some ways den could come back: now considering his car was still there i think it could even be possible that mac goes home to their apartment to find that dennis is still there, maybe just waiting or maybe packing, who knows. them blowing up the range rover & using the RPG without him only to find that he hadn't left yet, or at all is definitely something i could see happening (& i know this is a more serious post about den but come on i think we'd all laugh @ that) or the thing i definitely see happening is the gang talking in the bar, who knows how long it's been (maybe a day, maybe a few months) & all of a sudden dennis strolls in and says nothing, walks behind the bar & grabs a beer while the others just stop talking and stare. cue title card "dennis is back" (tbh this is one of the most realistic ones i think & i know glenn mentioned it might be funny if he just didn't come back at all but i think this is vastly more funny & in keeping w the show i mean come ON) or there's like the sad part. this again could depend on how u wanna view things. but if u look at it as dennis going on a downward spiral, only for him to kinda hit rock bottom w the RPG & brian jr. (which isn't even a theory that's literally what happened) then we know this isn't good. it's not a typical situation where they leave on good terms, or they leave happy because we know he wasn't happy. we know he initially didn't want this & isn't ready & we know he hates north dakota, & we also know it's not like he's in love w mandy or anything no matter how nice she seemed, as the person he was closest to was: mac. so it's not like he's really leaving for a better lifestyle either necessarily, because he may have mentioned envisioning himself getting married & having a kid but we saw how it went when he married someone he didn't love, and how he again was unable to function without mac, and it's obviously not how anyone plans on those things happening, & if they did have him settle down w mandy which i do not see ever happening we know he'd literally be settling.
so for him to have been going through a rough patch, to hit an extremely low point & then walk away from his friends, is not going to end well. he hit that low point & is now leaving without dealing with any of his problems because his focus is on fixing one of them: the kid, but also how he was affected by frank because he doesn't want the kid to grow up in that same way. so he thinks that's the most important issue, because he also likes to pretend he doesn't have any other ones, & thinks this is the thing he needs to deal with and everything will be fine. but he didn't deal with anything else, he's only bringing those problems with him, to north dakota, to mandy, to the kid, to his "new life." so if anything he's only gonna be more miserable and he won't even have mac there w him, who he literally depends on to function & considering he's only getting worse being w/o mac is the last thing he needs even if he thinks, or wants to believe that that's exactly what will help. idk how they're gonna deal w him being gone, if he's gone for any length of time or anything, but my point is if he's stated to be gone for months or something like that i'm pretty sure he's gonna come back at the worst we've ever seen him because he was only without mac for hours before he realized he had no idea what to do & they were only, what, a few miles away? part of all this is that he's codependent but that is most heavily dealing with mac. s5 dennis was still doing pretty okay, considering. so him not functioning without mac was just pathetic. s12 dennis has been a mess & him being without mac at arguably his lowest point is kind of scary to think about.
#im sorry this is SO LONG#but...yeah basically#some of y'all thought den was dark#but if hes gone for any length of time...#like hes gonna be sad as shit#& this isnt me being like omg he cant function w/o mac!#cuz like.#he literally cant.#theyve said this.#it isnt a joke#its not me saying it bc theyre so in love#its like..a direct result of dennis' bpd#mac happens to be the one he really relies on#that would be where id say the love comes in but#yeah#i really hope they dont do that#because ive thought before 'oh he should be gone awhile'#like maybe he'll develop more w the kid & everything#or that it'd be interesting to see the gang respond to life without him#but then i think about this#i hope they bring him back like right away like i said#cuz otherwise the only logical response from den being gone for awhile is for him to be like...Bad#ive seen fics mentioning like self harm & suicide (TW) & i've thought well i dont see that happening or thats too dark...#but honestly when i've written this all out i'm thinking it's more likely than not#& im not a psychologist im not claiming to be but i do get his character a lot bc we're very similar in that aspect like how we deal w thing#basically den needs to come back & ASAP bc its not gonna be good for him if he doesnt#dennis reynolds#macdennis#dennis needs him like now more than ever

13 Wishes for Season 13
So, I did this last year when I made a wishlist for Maryās character in season 12 (find it here), and I thought itād be fun to do the same for this season and see what I come up with!
P.S. There arenāt really any spoilers, so I didnāt tag it, but if you want to wait and read this after youāve gotten the chance to watch 13x01, you can do so!
1. Jody to finally see the bunker and finally meet Castiel.Ā
Yāall, I have been waiting so long for this to happen, you donāt realize. From the chatter Iāve been hearing, the Wayward Daughters backdoor pilot is coming after Castiel returns from The Empty. I figured that the backdoor pilot would focus mainly on the ladies with Sam and Dean there mostly as background pieces to sort of pass the torch. But since Castiel is apparently counted as a lead character now, maybe he could be there too? How awesome would it be for Cas to meet Jody and the rest of that cast, huh? They already have a connection through Claire, so why not?Ā Ā
2. A season-long arc between Sam and Jack
Itās about damn time we got a new dynamic on the show. Iām confident that this will come to pass, but I really would like to see Sam acting as a sort of mentor and friend to Jack. After all, both of these two were/are object of Luciferās desire, they both have powers they canāt always control, and they seem to be innately good. Sam could definitely offer advice or even comfort to Jack since he can easily empathize with his situation.
3. An Evil!Jack arc
(This is another one that Iām sure will happen in some form.) Of course I prefer the cinnamon roll of a character that we were introduced to in 13x01, but I feel like his character development would be severely lacking if he didnāt go dark side at some point. I donāt really care how it happens: he feels betrayed by Cas and/or the Winchesters, Lucifer somehow influences him to his side, he thinks heās doing the right thing when really heās not (just like his daddy). I donāt care. But I think seeing an evil Jack would be really awesome.Ā
4. Bobby, Bobby, Bobby
I mean, right? You cannot give us a glimpse of Earth 2 Bobby Singer in 12x23 and not give us more in S13. I know he isnāt the same Bobby that weāve known this whole time, but honestly, Iām just jazzed to have some of him back. Iām just a little fearful that heāll be in maybe three episodes tops? And that doesnāt suit me at all. Bring me all the Bobby, please.
5. Returning characters
Weāve all been talking about the possibilities that this other Earth could bring up. A parallel world thatās basically the same as the one we know but without Sam and Dean. So, that means you could bring back... well, anybody. I heard a rumor that Osric was set to come back this season, so maybe weāll get to see Kevin? Or Charlie? Benny? All Iām saying is if they donāt bring somebody back, Iām gonna be mad. Earth 2 is a total loophole to revisit some fan favorites. And listen, it doesnāt all have to be the good guys. Bring back fuckinā Abaddon or Azazel or Ruby. Take full advantage of the situation youāve written yourselves into, writers. Donāt let me down.
6. A real, lasting solution to Castielās burdened soul
For the past six fucking seasons Castiel has been on a fucking journey of self-loathing and self-hatred. Itās been exceptionally highlighted in the past two seasons, and not enough has been done to fix it. Iām not trying to downsize all the goodness that came from the Winchesters in S12, but there was also a fair amount of belittling, especially from Dean. Shit, thatās all Casās arc has been for the past two seasons. This season, Iād like to see a change. Iād like to see a real, extended conversation with Castiel and Dean (because, letās be honest, Deanās opinion means the most to Cas) where Dean sits him down and says something to the effect ofĀ āYouāve got to stop trying to prove yourself, Cas. You donāt need to. You have always been the strongest player on the bench, and I need you to believe that. I do.ā You know? I just need for someone to put their damn foot down and make Cas see how amazing he is so he stops getting stabbed in the damn chest trying to prove himself.
7. A Sam-centric storyline
Iām gathering that this season is going to be Cas-centric at its forefront, which is beautiful. He deserves that, heās never had that, itās his time to shine. However, Sam has been sidelined for too long. I donāt care if itās a subplot, but I need for Sam to be a part of the actual plot for the first time in forever beyond him fighting alongside Dean. I get it; Samās the one whoās got his shit together, so why would he get into the kind of trouble that would warrant a solo story arc? Maybe he doesnāt have to get into any kind of trouble. Maybe he could just become a leader of some sort (like we saw in 12x22). Maybe something with his psychic abilities could be touched on again (which I heard might actually happen). Maybe you could stop painting him as a character to be sidelined and actually give him his own stories again. HowĀ ābout that, SPN?Ā Ā
8. Explosions
I donāt really know why, maybe because of the grenade launcher last season, but I really wanna see something blow up. I mean, Jack can do so much, right? So, letās blow some shit up!
9. Weird demonstrations of Jackās powers
Like I said, Jack can do a ton of stuff with his powers, so Iād love to see an episode (which is probably the Scooby-Doo episode) where Jackās powers just fuck something up so badly. He could accidentally turn the Impala pink. He could replace Samās fancy shampoo with toothpaste. He could be the reason Cas has highlights this season (but for real, have you noticed Mishaās hair lately?). I just want some funny shit to happen because thereās a juiced up spawn of Satan living in their house.
10. Chuck
I know heās not going to bring Castiel back. Hell, Iām guessing Cas--and maybe Mary--are gonna save their own damn selves. But, even if itās just for five minutes, itād be cool for Chuck to come in like,Ā āDean, I heard your prayer, but thereās nothing I can do.ā And then Dean would 100% try to kill God himself before ChuckĀ poofs away.
11. Teleportation station
Honestly, if Cas is going to be back at full power, I want him to get lit about it. I just want to see him so damn happy to be back, ya know? Heād say,Ā āIāll driveā before a hunt and then boopĀ Sam, Dean, and Jack to wherever they were going. He could flash his wings at random intervals. Shit, he could break Samās frigginā leg and go,Ā āWait, watch!ā and then heal him. Then Sam would go,Ā āYou could already do that, you marble!ā And Cas wouldnāt even care because heās so happy. Tell me that wouldnāt be cute.Ā Ā
12. Crowley appreciation
Sadly, we all know Mark isnāt coming back to SPN, at least not any time soon. However, we can still give Crowley the respect he deserves this season. I understand that Crowley wasnāt TFW or family or anything, but he was something to Sam and Dean (as we saw in 13x01). Iād just like to see more comments made about wishing Crowley was there to help them with something or absentmindedly saying the kinda miss him. Ya know, just something to show everybody that they havenāt forgotten about him and that he meant something to the Winchesters.Ā
13. A new grieving process for Dean
I just made a post about this today, but I really want to see Dean grieve differently this season. For one, heās lost so much at this point that I think it warrants more than the moody, drink the pain away, ignore the crushing feeling of loss, fight through it response that Dean normally has. For two, he made so many steps last season toward a more open and vulnerable expression of his feelings, and brooding doesnāt line up with that. Also, thereās a big difference this time around: Cas. Heās never lost Cas like this before. Not this completely, not for this long, not this far into their relationship. Say what you want, but Deanās relationships are all different. From Sam to Mary to Crowley to whoever, Dean has a unique relationship with all of them. And losing Cas should result in a different kind of grieving. Especially considering the shit theyāve been through, especially because of all the shit Cas gave up for him. Deanās lost plenty, but this time needs to be different.
Well, thatās all I got! Let me know if you agree or disagree or think some of these will happen. Iām excited for the season, for sure. Hopefully, itās everything Iām wishing for!Ā

I know the running theory is that spn might end by season 14. But television is a business. If they end up extending it a couple seasons more than you predicted, any thoughts (or preferences) for how they would do so? Cool blog btw
Yeah they absolutely might, itās money at the end of the day :)
The reason many of us feel it is winding down is that theyāre tying up the boysā endgames very very quickly in relation to how slow it has been in the past, itās likeā¦11 years of foreplay and in a couple of episodes spread over s12 they just went WAM BAM!
Ofc they set it all up over those 11 years so that it wouldnāt be out of the blue, but the feel is kinda like the big themes and bigĀ āthingsā that need to be addressed were done so in season 12 and if this continues on course a natural ending around season 14 makes sense, due to each of TFW coming to some kind of a climax around the s12 finale and the next part seeming to be a denouement (Sam = self forgiveness/leadership, Dean = self acceptance/facing his past to move forwards, Cas = depression arc/belonging/humanity). Of course some more than others, I expect Sam and Cas both to have a much bigger climax in s13 for example.
So yeah there are still a lot of things for the boys to work on so of course itās not likely to be DONE really quickly, even those who said they felt s13 would be the last are now I believe changing to think probably s14 and hey it could be that s14 isnāt the last, in which case we should see another added loop to the spiral, more regression / reasons why they canāt move forwards like Samās codependency arc in s8, Deanās MoC arc that stagnated his for years, Casā depression arc that stops him moving forwards with the belonging/humanity arcā¦
All those things are basically ways to draw out the story andĀ āput it on holdā because itās I believe relatively clear what their endgames ARE, see above ^^^.
They absolutely could drag it out, in which case fine, as long as it does eventually get to where itās been telling us itās going, Iām down for that :) I would rather they didnāt or if they did they chose a way to make it drag out that wasnāt negative for the boys though, something that is an exterior threat/influence, where they can be moreĀ ātogetherā and much closer to their endgames, dare I say it, not perfectly already at their endgames because that would lead to a plot driven story rather than character driven which is boring, we need them to be finding themselves until the last couple of episodes imo, where, fully āfinishedā they can defeat the last big bad and win together as the best they they are.Ā
Perhaps Sam starts taking leadership of the MoL/Hunter community and comes into trouble trying to lead and meanwhile is learning magic but also hasnāt fully accomplished it yet, maybe Dean does come out as bi and he and Cas are textually a thing that is likely going to happen, making the GA notice and root for it, but it hasnāt happened yet, maybe Cas is with the boys and has his thing going with Dean but theyāre not together and heās not human yet or perhaps heās human but thereās a whole arc around his belonging / fitting in / learning to be human that still has to be played out. Then only at the end is Sam leading and doing a great job, is a good witch, Dean learns to say I love you and to have it said back to him, they have a family all around them, Cas is happy and fulfilled as human, he gets validation for who he is etc etc etc.
I would love it if they didnāt just regress them again basically, butĀ āput it on holdā in a way that enabled them to be better, more developed versions of their characters cos itās kinda getting old now imo, I would like to see more of them doing better, happier if not fullyĀ āfinishedā with their stories. But this is my wishlistā¦ I donāt think itās necessarily likely.
Thatās why my more āsolidā speculation is all meta-based and is ENDGAME.
All the season 13 speculations I make, same as my season 12 speculation, are short term āhey I think this will probably happenā and I see a theme happening aroundĀ āthisā speculation rather than actualĀ āthis is DEFINITELY going to happen in this episode/in this seasonā speculation.
I have thoughts and themes for individual episodes in season 13 however because I did for season 12 and was right about my gut instinct so I am a smug irritating sob who will continue to do this until Iām proved consistently wrong, because I enjoy the speculation and my followers seem to enjoy it too.Ā
I have it all mapped outĀ for where I would take the story now and what I believe they are doing, because I enjoy thinking about this and ticking or crossing things off the list, potentially reassessing and understanding it from a different angle if I am wrong about something (ie. I thought we would see Eileen again in the finale, but now I know it actually makes much more sense if she is back between 13x02-06 if she is back at all and I might be totally wrong and she might be totally dead, in which case I will reassess!).
Part of what I enjoy about it though too is that I will not be upset if Iām wrong, I just enjoy thinking about it and when Iām right itās FUN.Ā
If anyone wants to take my word for gospel, well, they shouldnāt, I definitely donāt. Chuck IĀ couldnāt imagine being so arrogant that Iād think I was so absolutely right andĀ couldnāt be wrongĀ about something as to get upset about it if I was wrong.Ā I donāt work for the show, I just read what I read and I see what I see and so far Iāve enjoyed it so much and been right so Iāll keep going for now :)
In terms of when the show ends, yeah, basically if it goes on for longer then I just see them putting it on hold but the endgame speculation still stands unless they throw spanners in the works that go against 12 years worth of narrative, which they absolutely could do, who knows! :)
