Side effect or bonus? Because the primary heating is wood, I basically smell like a combination of my aftershave (bay rum) and wood smoke all the time. Gotta get the fire going or build it back up, and a bit of smoke gets out. The cabin smells like sandalwood and wood smoke as well.

So I have a metric fuckton of cooking apples in my fridge even after giving away a lot of them, and @petermorwood posting about honey-fried apples gave me just the idea of what to do with some of them. I stretched them with potatoes and topped them with bacon (and bacon grease…) and this was an excellent decision. This is absolutely worth a repeat next year - might want to make it in batches to avoid crowding the pan, this is where the carbon steel really can shine but you only really see it on a few of the apples and potatoes.
