Went to a ren faire yesterday. Wore my fae themed ear cuffs n some elf ears. Also brought my deer mask.
I saw a group of children wearing masks and doing quads.
It made me very happy to see them.
Even though I'm not therian myself it's just lovely to see them have the courage to be publicly non-human.
The moment I looked away from them they were right next to me and they were talking about how cool my mask is and how deer are hard to make.
I have received the approval of the therian children. My life is complete.
Gosh I love therians.
I love nonhumanity.
Me at the ren faire btw :3

My greatest piece of advice to anyone who’s newly awakened to being otherkin, therian, alterhuman, nonhuman, etc. is to research.
I’m not talking about looking up definitions on fandom wikis or whatever. You need to really get to know your community before even considering conversations about who “can” and “cannot” be something.
Learn about the histories of our kind.
Read essays on your peers’ experiences.
Familiarize yourself with different labels and identities outside of your own.
Open your mind to experiences not only similar to yours, but also aren’t like your experiences at all.
I’m saying this in the kindest way possible, especially to younger members of our community. I get it. I know what it’s like to come up in a space and see how discourse is given a lot of focus. There’s pressure to take a hard stance on something.
But, you just realized this part of yourself.
Please understand that zeroing in on discourse, let alone becoming a gatekeeper, isn’t the way to engage with community.
Most of all, it’s not good to dive headfirst into it without educating yourself.
Edit: Check out this thread for websites and other resources added by @monsterqueers and I, if you want places to start!

Hi! I really like the food kits you put together but I just gotta ask like. How long does it take you to put these together? There’s so many recipes and they look insanely good- don’t you get hungry just. Doing the research for these?
It depends how much research goes into them, how much i try to keep everything different/ not repeat stuff, etc. Some take 15-20 minutes, some take over 2 hours. But I love doing them! Recipes are my special interest — I have SO MANY recipe books and saved web pages. I wanna share that with everyone!
Plus, I've got a lot of food/texture sensitivities and grew up with a TON of allergies. So finding a diverse diet that I liked *and* wouldn't make me sick was a challenge... that I've since gotten very good at overcoming. If I can give people a taste of home, a new safe food, species euphoria, or a more varied diet? I will happily do all I can do help.
And sometimes they make me wanna eat, yeah. I actually often keep little snacks nearby, or a favorite drink, while I write. So I can scratch the "want to munch" urge without like... messing up my diet xD
(Not like a weight loss or fad diet. I mean like. I try to have dietary habits like eating mindfully, eating on a set schedule so I don't forget to eat entirely, etc. If I fill up on mindless munchies at the wrong hours, I'll wind up eating things i like less at really weird hours. I just have a complicated relationship with food ^^;)

Let's have some love for the angels that weren't holy.
Let's have some love for the angels that fell.
Let's have some love for the angels that questioned things.
Let's have some love for angels that don't fall into the human definition of "good".
Let's have some love for the angels that hated their jobs.
Let's have some love for the angels that didn't look like a stereotypical angel.
Let's have some love for the angels that longed to be human.
Let's have some love for the angels that felt like they should be damned instead.
Let's have some love for the angels that broke rules.
Let's have some love for the angels that don't fit with the "be not afraid" and scared the shit out of people on purpose.
Let's have some love for the angels that were friends with demons.
Let's have some love for the angels.
