“Why is the situation with the explosion of the dam of the Kakhovskaya hydroelectric station so beautiful? I explain. In this war, we will always have one main trump card that can be used against the Ukrainian (“khokhol” slur was used). And it's not even about nuclear weapons. This is the dam of the Kyiv reservoir. A small thin bridge that is held back by millions of tons of water that will instantly rush into Kyiv and wash these Augean stables down the drain. The dam is old, rotten, rusty. You don't need many missiles. Hundreds of thousands of Kyivans, especially those who live on the lower left bank, are likely to die instantly. Kyiv will never recover from this catastrophe. I'm sure this dam is a ticking time bomb whose timer has already started ticking. Thanks to the USSR for this trump card up its sleeve.”
and that’s on “not all russians”. they are bloodthirsty monsters who are ready to fully destroy something they can’t have.

It's not certain whether there will be any war crimes trials after the war, so Ukraine is going after war criminals on its own.
A senior Russian naval officer was killed in a car bombing in Crimea on Wednesday, the latest in a series of targeted attacks on Russian military personnel and pro-Kremlin figures in occupied Ukrainian territories as well as inside Russia. An official in Ukraine’s security services told the Ukrainian Pravda outlet that the agency had orchestrated the car bomb attack in the Russian-controlled port city of Sevastopol that killed Valery Trankovsky, the chief of staff of the 41st Missile Brigade of the Russian navy’s Black Sea fleet. The official said Trankovsky was a war criminal” who had ordered missile strikes from the Black Sea at civilian targets in Ukraine. Russia has used warships from its Black Sea fleet, as well as strategic bombers, to conduct missile strikes on targets across Ukraine that have led to hundreds of civilian casualties.
Nice of Russia to keep its war criminals nearby so Ukraine can find them. 🙂 But the reach of Ukraine goes well beyond Russian-occupied parts of the country.
Ukraine has targeted dozens of Russian military officers and Russian-installed officials whom Kyiv has accused of committing war crimes in the country. Little is known about the clandestine Ukrainian resistance cells involved in assassinations and attacks on military infrastructure in Russian-controlled areas. In October, a high-ranking officer in the GRU military intelligence service who had recently returned from fighting in Ukraine was assassinated outside his house in a village in the Moscow region. The same month, Ukraine claimed responsibility for a car bomb attack that killed an official at the Russian-occupied Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant. Kyiv is also believed to have been behind the killing of a former Russian submarine captain who was shot dead while jogging in the southern Russian city of Krasnodar and may have been tracked through his profile on the fitness app Strava.

¡Me monté en la montaña rusa tres veces!
Hello, Moscow Times readers! This is your weekly newsletter, which will shed light on: a time of rapid price growth in Russia how Africa feels about free Russian cheese grain why Vladimir Putin remained standing. But first we will discuss a seemingly not too high-profile event—the arrest of the Soviet dissident and prominent Russian leftist Boris Kagarlitsky. Boris Kagarlitsky was jailed by…

Ukraine Displays Recovered Artifacts Stolen by Russians
Ukraine has recovered 14 archaeological items stolen by a Russian man who was stopped at a U.S. airport on suspicion of illegally importing artifacts, Ukrainian officials said Friday.
Ukraine’s acting Minister of Culture Rostyslav Karandieiev said the man stole the artifacts from Russian-occupied Ukrainian territory and then tried to transport them into the U.S. At a news conference in Kyiv Friday, Karandieiev showed some of the artifacts to journalists, along with the documentation that Ukraine received.
The recovered items include various types of weaponry, such as axes of different sizes, and date back to periods ranging from the Neolithic to the Middle Ages. One of the oldest is a polished Neolithic axe, dating from approximately 5,000-3,000 years BCE, said Karandieiev.
“It’s safe to say that Ukraine has received a new shipment of weaponry. The only catch is that this weaponry is incredibly ancient,” Karandieiev said with a smile during the public handover of artifacts at the historic Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra, a sacred Orthodox monastic complex.

The Russian invasion of Ukraine, now in its second year, is being accompanied by the destruction and pillaging of historical sites and treasures on an industrial scale, causing losses estimated in the hundreds of millions of euros (dollars), Ukrainian authorities say.
Most of the artifacts returned were handed over to Ukraine during the visit of President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to the United States in September.
The accompanying document disclosed the identity of the individual responsible for the unlawful importation of artifacts, revealing that he hails from Krasnodar, Russia.
The acting director general of Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra, Maksym Ostapenko, estimated the value of the repatriated items to be around $20,000. But he emphasized that each artifact, given its age, is a significant cultural treasure.
Karandieiev also highlighted a case where 16,000 items were found to be missing from the art museum in Kherson after Ukrainian forces liberated the city following a nine-month Russian occupation.
“How long it will take to return our treasures, our artifacts, is hard to say,” he concluded.

Over the past year, we have identified evidence of a surge in systematic and coordinated genocidal tactics against Ukrainians. Our legal analysis found reasonable grounds to believe that Russia is responsible for the commission of genocide. This position is supported both by actions prohibited in the Genocide Convention and an underlying pattern of atrocities indicating that Russia aims to destroy the Ukrainian national group in part(..)
P.S. What USA and Germany say: Sending to Ukraine long-range missiles and jets to defend their people might escalate the war. What Russia hears: The US & Germany will let us escalate our genocide by hindering the supply of modern long-range weapons to Ukraine.
What Eastern Europeans are hearing and watching: The fact that the West is ready to conclude "peace and business deals with the Kremlin at the expense of Eastern Europeans!" Ukrainian experience shows that the West is too slow and lazy in security matters and still avoids by all possible means effective resistance to Russian aggression.
Yes, the West is helping Ukraine, but is it being done to a sufficient extent. Unfortunately, no! The Kremlin's economic and military sparing tactics chosen by the West allow the Kremlin to adapt and continue the escalation of the war. Strange as it may be, the Russian military industry receives components for the production of missiles and other armaments from the West, Russian "tourists" and businessmen still enter Europe and the United States, Russian business is still not completely isolated...Russian spies, agents of influence and cronies of the Kremlin are still operating unhindered in the West…

P.S. Russian "official" art workers diligently participate in the propaganda of Russian imperialism and campaigns to justify war crimes. They are the same accomplices of war crimes as Russophiles - "useful fools" and businessmen who make deals with the Kremlin according to the principle - "money doesn't stink"...

Sorry to beat a dead horse here, but all of this is utterly sickening, even though I knew it was only a matter of time before it happened. I wish I was younger (can't help that) and in better shape (working on that), I'd go there and fight (also I'm a middling shot at best, and at 6'5" I'm a big target). As it is I've got a fucked up knee and a bit of a limp if the weather is 'wrong.' I'm both tactically and professionally useless to any overseas military effort. Also I don't speak Ukrainian. Excuses, excuses. I've got family in Ukraine (they're dual citizen Irish-Americans but they've been there for twelve years), and every bit of news in this new American regime has me wanting to vomit.
