Russia is an ally of Iran which is the main underwriter to Hamas.

Putin could not be more delighted with a war in the Middle East because he thinks it will distract the world's attention from his illegal invasion of Ukraine.

In cahoots with Putin is the Putin Caucus in the US House of Representatives. These are extremist MAGA Republicans like Matt Gaetz and Marjorie Taylor Greene who are obsequiously doing the bidding of Donald Trump.

If you are represented in the House by a Republican from a swing district, contact your representative and tell him or her to join with Democrats and break the legislative logjam on aid to Ukraine.

I've almost reached my breaking point with this genocide in Ukraine. I'm older than most Tumblr users, so I was being yelled at in university tutorials in the early 00s for talking about the Holodomor, and being told that "If it happened, Ukrainians deserved it for being Nazis".

I was out there in 2007 when we had the worldwide march for the Holodomor to be recognised as a genocide, only for so many countries (the USA being one of them) to tell us that they won't do it because it might upset russia.

I remember when russia invaded in 2014 and Obama said it wasn't his business, and that russia can decide what happens in Ukraine. And then he sent Ukraine fucking helmets and "hygiene kits" instead of the military aid he was supposed to.

My family in Donetsk walked out of their homes with their lives packed in plastic shopping bags nearly eleven years ago. But people prefer to believe the russian lies that Donbas wants to be part of russia.

I remember sitting at home on the 17th of July 2014, hearing about russia shooting down MH17, and feeling my blood run cold because the initial reports said the aeroplane was full of Americans. Being so sure that the USA might finally live up to the Budapest Memorandum and get involved in the war.

Of course they didn't.

And then the Malaysians went and protested at the Ukrainian embassy, as if they were to blame for being invaded by their genocidal neighbour.

I remember being at a protest at the russian embassy in Canberra just after Crimea was annexed, and the only people who turned up for us were other Ukrainians. Soon after there were massive protests for Palestine and BLM from Melbourne to Dublin and beyond. Ukrainians are too white for leftists and too foreign for right-wingers to care about.

More people dumped buckets of ice on their heads than supported us.

I spent Easter 2016 in a hotel in Ukraine. 8.5 years ago I was the only guest who wasn't a soldier on leave from the war.

Now I go on reddit and see that Americans are discussing how Ukraine "has a neo-fascist problem". Um, you guys just voted for Donald fucking Trump?

Then I see an Australian journalist say that the US election result means that America is "becoming like Eastern Europe". No. Eastern Europeans aren't Nazis. They suffered more under the Nazis than anyone.

We're always on our own. Millions upon millions of Ukrainians have been killed in the last ninety years, millions more sold into slavery in Germany (including my grandparents), hundreds of thousands sent to gulags (including the entire population of my grandmother's village), and hundreds and hundreds and hundreds of thousands dead or missing now, but we're still not seen as worthy of caring about.

I have family members whose dead bodies have been lying on battlefields for over a year. One killed in Bakhmut, a city that no longer exists. Another taken hostage from Mariupol, a city russia bombed to the ground. The mass graves there can be seen from space.

We can't get the bodies back because russia has colonised the area. I have a relative who was moved on from fighting in Vovchansk because there was no point fighting for another city that no longer exists. My relative who was taken hostage in Mariupol was starved and tortured for 2.5 years.

And then last week our city's magazine had a three-page interview with the russian ambassador, explaining why his country "has" to commit genocide in Ukraine. The editor laughed at my aunt when she phoned to register a complaint.

But teenaged tankies on sites like this will mock Ukrainians' deaths, stick a fucking hammer and sickle in their profile, and lecture people like me about things they know nothing about.

The world needs to end its ridiculous love affair with the russian federation.

Just watched a documentary mini-series on how Ukraine was regaining its independence in 1991.

The way the US tried so hard to preserve the USSR. That goddamned "Chicken Kiev" speech from George Bush.

And then that ultimatum that the US would only recognise Ukraine's independence if Ukraine gave up its nukes and a significant portion of other weapons, because for some reason they thought only russia had the right to have them.

Ukraine did agree to this ultimatum. It signed that goddamned Budapest memorandum. The US and UK said they, along with russia, would guarantee Ukraine's safety. And then in 2014 Ukraine, having gotten rid of most of its military potential, got invaded by russia. And the UK and US did NOTHING. Then in 2022 russia escalated its war to all out genocide. Entire cities are completely razed to the ground, tens of thousands of people are killed, millions lost their homes, thousands are subject to torture and forced deportations. Only then the US reluctantly started providing help, which is MUCH appreciated, I must stress on that, but Ukraine still has to keep begging. For its very existence. That was "guaranteed".

And in the midst of this, a lot of USAmericans are like, "why would we care about these millions of people (that we gave security guarantees to) that are being subject to genocide when the roads in my town are bad and the streets are filled with garbage? They must all die because there is garbage on my street!"

I didn’t go looking for this, I wasn’t purveying tags or anything. Just scrolling through my dashboard on Tumblr, and bam! Here’s a zero note post comparing Zionism to Neo-Nazism. Which, even if someone full heartedly believed Zionism is racism and all that…that still wouldn’t make it neo-Nazism. Sorry, actually they said “Zionism is Neo-Nazism but for Jewish people” (the sentence is so stupid). The bullshit never makes sense even if you apply their own logic (which, I suppose is a feature not a bug). This incessant need to compare Israel to Nazi Germany is straight up antisemitic, it’s “the Jews are just as bad as the Nazis now” which proves they have a concerning lack of knowledge regarding the Holocaust because no, there’s no similarities between the Third Reich and Modern-day Israel. The situations are entirely different, but of course they (idiots, antisemitic idiots, and those using the Holocaust as some kind of gotcha against Israelis and Jewish people) don’t really care about that do they?

Disclaimer: Islamophobia is bad, undeniable so and if/when it shows up in UK media it ought to be denounced (I don’t really read UK news so not entirely familiar with the typical racist rhetoric that is used over there). But to say, “why doesn’t the world care about Palestine?” Is just a baffling question. The world does care (arguably), I mean why else are charities giving out aid and distributing food over there? Why is Anera and the WCF over there if the world doesn’t care? I mean, didn’t countries start declaring Palestine a state recently as well? I mean, the countless protests in Israel against their own government, grassroots organizations and interfaith organizations all trying for peace in the region, etc etc. the protests here as well (even though I feel the U.S. protests tend to be mostly for-show, not actually effective, and concerningly antisemitic).

You could say “I feel like people don’t care enough” or “people might care but there’s no action being done to help Palestine” or “there isn’t enough being done to help Palestine / Palestinians”. One could argue that various governments could be doing more, that Israel could be doing more, and so on! Whether their arguments stand up or not is another matter, but that would be an understandable statement to make! Why the fuck is so hard for people to make valid criticisms of a country and its military operations without veering straight into conspiracy theories and antisemitism and Nazi comparisons?

Just realized, I think OP is using the revised Wikipedia version of the definition of Zionism, which you covered sometime ago. The section of “Hitler’s goals” explicitly says European Jews, which I don’t disagree with necessarily BUT that feels like it misses the whole fact that there were also camps in North African countries like Tunisia, Algeria, Morocco and so on?

Being Ukrainian means fitting your whole life into one backpack.

Kherson. Nova Kakhovka dam. Destroyed by russians. Ecocide, terrorism... Call it whatever you want. I know that right now, there are thousands of Ukrainians that are drowning and hoping for help. But, the part of the Kherson region is still under occupation. And russians don't let them evacuate. The other part, where volunteers, soldiers and civilians are trying to evacuate other people and animals is sheiling by russians.

More than 85 villages will go underwater. Would you happen to know what else it means? People under occupation, people whom the russian occupation authorities imprisoned and tortured in specially designated premises, and dungeons, as was the case in Bucha, Irpin, Izyum and many other cities of Ukraine, are now underwater. Their bodies will be there now until the water goes.

Numbers of endangered species of animals and plants in the South of Ukraine will disappear. And you know what the UN and Red Cross doing? One is celebrating the day of the russian language the other is writing an article about how hard moscow works on the development of humanitarian law. Have any eco-activist, organisations written a word about it? Nothing. No one is helping. No one cares.

Yesterday, I received a letter from an eco-community. About saving bees. Funny things? Ukraine is one of the largest honey-exporting countries. But no one cares what's going on here. Because you all tried to be so good at words, but never at actions. It's easier to close your eyes and tolerate russia. Read their books, listen to their music, learn and celebrate the day of their language. It's easier to block a publication from Ukrainian because they said something bad about big and dear russia, but it's hard to share and speak about all the horrible things they are doing here. So hypocrisy.

I won't be easy in my words, while people here are drowning, being killed and tortured and the whole world is silent because they are scared. I won't ever share a post about plastic, straws and other shit, while there is russia, that can destroy a dam, cause a flood, destroy thousands of lives, kill animals and plants, and get away with it.

I don't believe in this world and in this society. You all have already forgiven russia.

I’ve lost track of the number of times I’ve had to do a quick double take to see if it was a tankie or a rightwing Republican talking. If you examine it and listen closely, it’s really amazing how much their rhetoric overlaps. Sometimes the Venn diagram is just a big ole circle, which isn’t surprising because both parties care about the suffering of others ONLY if they like the people being harmed. Otherwise it’s cool indifference or worse, because they’re good with authoritarianism, imperialism and colonialism, because “communism” ☭ or some such bullshit. Completely morally and intellectually inconsistent with the beliefs they espouse.

Indistinguishable from conservative rhetoric.
