Michael Yew is one of my favourite minor characters in pjo because the Apollo cabin is portrayed as all smiles and easygoing campers, and then you have this ratty faced, scrappy little 4’6 guy, with a temper to rival Clarisse La Rue, a devil may care attitude towards the titan war, he laughs in the face of death, and he just got put in charge as head councillor of cabin 7

OMG I FORGOT ABOUT THIS TROPE. no bc it is SO clarisse it’s insane and i must elaborate

while she’s not necessarily a bully she’s just insecure and her first instinct is violence!

she is just kind of an asshole tho

she standoffish and her reputation at camp is not very positive!

people are just really shocked and all your siblings are SO concerned that she’s like going to punch you in the face or smth???? it’s really funny tbh

clarisse is just SO hard and tough and that’s just her persona and who she is

but you just bring out a side of her that no one else gets to see

well they get to see it from afar

you’ll be like standing next to her table at lunch trying to talk to her about something and she’s like

or sometimes she’ll just push one of her siblings food away and tell you to sit right on the table

her love language is touch and acts of service so she’s always touching you, any part of your body, always kissing you, and it’s just so SHOCKING

like just pure whiplash she’ll call one of her friends a dumbass for tripping but if you were to trip over something she would catch you and be like “you gotta be more careful, dummy” and smile at you

one of her siblings would jokingly point out how unfair it was and she was just like deadpan

“yeah? she’s the most amazing woman at camp. what are you? you’re not beautiful like her. you’re not smart like her. you’re just….. you…. which is not a good thing”

she’s always just doing things for you

like if you ask her to grab something for you trust it’s getting grabbed

but also like ares kids notice EVERYTHING

you won’t even realize you’re cold or hungry or something and all of a sudden she’s placing a jacket over you or shoving food into your mouth

she loves to feed you but not in a weird way

she just likes to provide for you???? do i make sense???? she just wants you and everyone to see that she’s capable and strong and confident and she can take care of you AND herself

and you’re obviously always so nice to her

ok, but, the series so far is doing a phenomenal job at showcasing just how prideful and unjust the gods are towards their children, how it's making the viewers look at the gods with contempt and asking 'how could you ever think to do this to your own child?' Percy's anger at Poseidon's abandonment (even if Percy is his favorite son, he grew up without his father and only 'earned' his attention when fighting Clarisse, like Percy said. Then, it's only when he's falling to his death in Athena's temple that he finally intervenes, but only sending a nereid in his place.) Annabeth blatantly stating that she knows her mother will protect them - not only in a sacred temple, but a temple to her mother nonetheless - only to boldly accept that she's willing to die as punishment for her mother's wounded pride (yet here she is, a girl with no family besides Luke, who still had faith in her mother to guide and protect her. especially after the entire encounter with Medusa, Annabeth still stood by her mother's side and how 'just' she is) Clarisse desperate for some form of recognition from her father, desperately fighting the new kid so that she can get some speck of glory because this unclaimed child killed the Minotaur while she's done nothing but try to live up to her father and be a 'proper' daughter of Ares (only to have her only gift from him broken, lose the fight to the new kid, and not even considered for the quest despite being one of camp's most skilled and proficient fighters) All of this just... building and building on how unjust the gods are to their own children, how those demigods suffer as they try to earn their parent's attention - not love, attention. We are only halfway through the first season and it is so deliciously setting up the precedent for why Luke will betray Camp and the gods, why others are drawn to his beliefs even when he's less Luke and more Kronos.

Because, really, with the way the gods have treated them so far, could you really blame any of them for turning their backs in the hope of a better future?

It doesn't matter how much time passes, I am always in awe over the way that drosselmeyer is written in princess tutu. He is omnipresent from the word go, his meddling eyes watching the show with us and giggling about this wonderful tragedy that is set to unfold. Every time his eyes appear on the screen it feels not just like a god staring down the characters and making them dance to his whim, but like he is looking you, the viewer, dead in the eye and taunting you. A playwright who wants nothing but beautiful terrible tragedy for all involved inviting you to attend his latest theatrical debut.

I feel to the core of my being every time the characters lament their lot in life, doomed by the narrative, because that fate is not something ordained by uncaring gods. Drosselmeyer wants to see his characters grasp at any chance of hope or happiness only so he can watch the look on their faces as it slips from their hands and out of reach. He cares very deeply about their strife because he has hand crafted it just for them. As every episode passes I feel the desperation of the characters as if it is my own

The thought of undermining Drosselmeyer becomes insurmountably daunting, too, the longer the story goes on. The closer his work is to completion the more power he seems to hold, and the knot tightens its grip around every character in the story to a painful degree by the end. To become such an overwhelming threat as the final villain of the story is truly a work of art, and by the end of my watchthroughs I am always booing and yelling at the guy every time he comes on screen. Even though I know how the story goes I am wracked with the desire for Drosselmeyer to get his comeuppance and the cast of princess tutu to wrench their fates out of his grasp, and the catharsis of the end is as true and harrowing as any tragedy that man could hope to write.

For me the funniest and also the stupidest thing a god in pjo has ever said is definitely Mars’s bit in SoN when he told Frank “Time you stepped up to a real man’s weapon.” and then handed him a spear, a weapon no man in pjo, up to that point, has ever used in a fight.

I’m also like 99,9% sure the reason for that was that some time before that kids of Ares started ignoring him and Clarrise didn’t do anything and even told him to go and find some son of his that would do a quest for him ‘cause they’re done with him and his bullshit. So he went to claim Frank and in a godly and slightly sexist fit called Clarrise’s weapon of choice a ‘weapon of a man’

It’s also fun if you think about it bc there actually is no named characters who would fight with a spear of any kind who would also happen to be a man, all of the characters that are said to have spears prior to that are girls, Clarrise, Thalia, Reyna, Athena. Even Ares doesn’t use a spear, his weapon of choice is a sword. The closest any guy came to using a spear was Kronos!Luke and his scythe, but even he doesn’t really use it for battle and mostly falls back to Luke’s sword.
