If the TSATS sequel isn’t a well-written, well-structured, well-developed Will Solace-centric where Will finally gets a real identity instead of just being Nico’s boyfriend, I will officially give up on the Solangelo ship and anything related to them.

Solangelo has had 4 books to sell me on their relationship, both as a couple and as individuals, but I am so sorry, Will Solace is not a convincing or compelling character. Most of the intrigue going for him predicates himself on the whole ‘Happy Sunshine + Grumpy Darkness” dynamic, and it’s too shallow of a foundation. Cool for him being a form of representation, but as an avid and passionate story consumer, I am well past the point of being so easily impressed by mere representation. If you’re going to do DEI and representation, you need to fucking do it well. It’s not enough to just throw surface-level discussions race/ethnicity/sexual orientation/gender identity into a story and then act like your work is done. You actually have to design a story that’s worthy enough to carry that diversity. If your representation doesn’t come with quality writing, I don’t fucking want that shit!

So for Rick/Mark, it’s time for them to step up their game. Give Will a real personality, and a real identity. Make him an interesting person worth giving a shit about. Tell me what else has happened in his life other than just Nico. Tell me about his family, his friends, his siblings, his view on the gods/his dad, what it was like to participate in three wars and/or watch his counselors die. Tell me about the kind of people he was crushing on before he met Nico. Tell me what his thoughts about romance were BEFORE he met Nico. Add some real fucking substance to this character, I am literally begging you!

actually one of the details that frustrates me the most from TSATS, relating to how much the book completely erases or absolutely bastardizes neurodivergence, is how Percy's cameo is characterized.

One of the consistent things aspects of Percy's relationship with the education system throughout the series is that Percy is smart, and he does try in school, but he has a learning disability. The only reason he gets bad grades is because he has a learning disability and the way the modern american education system is built is inherently at odds with that. In the first series we actually have explicit references to Percy doing better in school when he's in environments that actually accommodate for his disabilities! It's not that he's not trying, he's disabled.

So it is so disheartening and horrible to see Percy characterized in TSATS as just being disinterested in school, and his failing grades being made a joke about implying him ditching classes because he just doesn't care. That's the number one ableist thing ADHD/dyslexic students hear! Implying that they "just don't care" and dismissing their disabilities. It is so horrible to see that joke being made in the Percy Jackson series of all franchises. Especially when you add that on to the rest of the quite frankly ableist characterizations in TSATS and how much the book erases Nico and Will's disabilities/neurodivergence.

I hate what Rick did to tartarus

Tartarus is meant to be this big and scary place and by describing it through the eyes and Percy and Annabeth in HoH and later Nico and Will in TSatS just kind of ruined the element of fear around the place. I as a reader see the Feilds of Punishment a worse than Tartarus because Tartarus has been shown to me. It's been described in a way that the reader can go "oh that isn't so bad". We watched Percy and Annabeth's journey. It would've been better if we got nothing from Tartarus and we only got to see them after they got out all injured and traumatized without any description of what they went through. It would have readers craving the knowledge of what happened without peeling away the mystery or Tartarus's horrors.
