Barty and Evan are extremely codependent (and I love that for them, honestly). But basically, this means that you don’t see one without the other, with two exceptions. One is that Barty’s at a party or some type of social gathering, because it’s a fifty fifty chance that Evan will join him. The other is when Evan and Pandora are having a “twin day” in which Panda drags Evan off to go make flower crowns and gossip with her. It’s in these sessions that she hears about Evan’s horribly pathetic crush on Barty, and that she is the first to be told that they’re dating.

I hc that Dorcas was the first to know that Barty was dating Evan (she was confused by his taste in men but supported it) + that he was gay

And Barty was the first to know that Dorcas was dating Marlene (which at first he did not approve of but grown to love her) + that she was gay

And like siblings no matter what the other did they would always make up

Pandora and Evan usually get along but sometimes they’ll have a batshit crazy sibling fight and Drocas and Regulus don’t blink an eye but Barty (chronic only child) gets so concerned

So, I’ve been thinking a lot about the marauders and potential siblings. Someone else on here pointed out how weird it is most of them are only children, and I agree. So here’s my suggestions.

James Potter: An older sister or only child. He just has the energy of someone with an loving older sister!

Sirius Black: No notes! Younger brother is PERFECT!

Remus Lupin: Younger brother, but a bigger age difference. Like 10 years, maybe. Only child works too.

Peter Pettigrew: Older sisters. Multiple. I’d say 3. 3 feels right.

Lily Evans: No notes! Older sister works perfectly!

Marlene Mckinnon: A couple of siblings. Big family, like 6 kids in total or something. Marlene being somewhere in the middle, but on the younger side. Like second to last? Maybe twins as the youngest, then Marlene, then 3 older siblings?

Mary Macdonald: Only child really works, but I’d love her with a sister. I also really liked her with a younger brother, like in CR.

Dorcas Meadows: Needs a sister! I’m thinking older. Bc it feels right!

Regulus Black: no notes! Perfect! (Your honour, this is my child. I will fight anyone for him)

Barty Crouch: only child works really well! Or like a sibling who passed away and used to be their dad’s favourite?

Evan Rosier: I really like the headcanon of him and Pandora being twins.

Pandora Lovegood: still pushing the twins with Evan agenda. Though I also enjoy her being the youngest sister of Rodolphus and Rabastan Lestrange.

What if! The Black Brothers and Rosier Twins were friends growing up. Regulus and Pandora have always been close, but Evan and Sirius use to be close, cause they were the older of the siblings (I headcanon Evan to be the older twin, and that their birthday is before Regulus's), and other reasons, but mostly that. What if a few days before Sirius left for Hogwarts, the Rosiers spent the night, and while Reg and Dora were asleep, Sirius made Evan promise to watch over Reggie while he was gone. What if Sirius told Evan that it was his responsibility to watch over Dora and Reg now that he was gone at school, just like how Bellatrix told Andromeda, who told Narcissa, who told Sirius. What if that's why Evan and Reggie, initially, became best friends? They were obviously friends before, but they weren't super close until Sirius left. What if Evan was just as devastated as Reg when Sirius came back for Christmas holiday and realized he had changed? What if that made him resent Sirius a little, what if seeing Regulus be hurt by it as well made him resent him even more? What if, despite Evan resenting Sirius a bit, he still tried to be his friend (cause I believe they were each others first best friend that weren't their siblings)? What if Evan convinced Regulus and Pandora to find Sirius on their first train ride to Hogwarts, because he wanted to sit with him? What if when they found him, he was already sitting with his Gryffindor friends and was mad that they had come to find him so he took them out of the compartment and told them, in French, that they weren't kids anymore and they don't have to follow him everywhere he goes, that he has his own friends now and doesn't need them pestering him, what if that's the first time Evan thought he hated Sirius? But what if, despite hating Sirius, he still followed his orders of taking care of Reg and Dora? What if that's (part of) the reason why he joined the Death Eaters in the first place, so he could take care of Regulus? What if Regulus saw Evan more like a big brother than Sirius after Sirius left him? What if that made Sirius hate Evan? What if they both died hating their first friend?

the thing is, canon does matter

I'm not saying everything has to be canon compliant. And I am not saying we shouldn't do Death of the Author.

But there are still things that people usually expect to see unless there's an AU tag: Hogwarts houses, family dynamics, animagus forms, physical features like Lily's green eyes and the Black brothers' dark hair. Sometimes really tiny details from canon like James being a Chaser or Evan Rosier being someone who exists. Voldemort unless it's a No Voldemort AU, magic unless it's a Muggle AU.

Pretty much everyone cares about canon to some degree. Some a lot more than others, sure. But it just doesn't make sense to get upset at other fans for preferring a canon compliant ship or characterization, or bringing up canon to explain their headcanons, or whatever.

Can James be a kangaroo animagus who hates Quidditch, has five siblings, and was sorted into Hufflepuff without needing an AU tag?

Actually, no, can he be an American coffee shop barista who's never heard of Hogwarts without needing an AU tag?

No? Then canon does matter to some extent and it's just a matter of how much.

alternative idea inspired by the rosier twins headcanon: rosier step-siblings

Evan’s father, Rosier sr., is a french wizard and the younger brother of Druella Rosier. After they graduate from beauxbatons, Druella marries an english aristocrat, Cygnus Black, and moves to England where she has three daughters. Rosier sr., on the other hand, falls in love with a beautiful witch he went to school with, marries her and stays in France where they have a son named Evan. Four years later, Evan’s mother dies in childbirth, and the baby also dies (I don’t think wizards, especially traditional pureblood types, would be open-minded about muggle medical practices, which means no c-sections. if there’s a complication, it’s common for the mother and/or child to die. very victorian) leaving Evan alone with his father, who responds to his grief over the death of his wife by shutting himself away, either at work or in his office drinking. Evan is raised by nannies and housekeepers, having no other family nearby and not allowed to play with other children. Evan’s father, who wasn’t that great before his wife died, only interacts with Evan to scrutinize and control all of his actions and choices, partly protective over his remaining child and partly just an abusive control freak. And Evan’s a lonely child, and learns how to be alone young.

During those years, Druella, Evan’s aunt, is constantly trying to get her brother to move to England where she is—their parents are long dead and they are each other’s remaining blood family. Also, she kind of sucks to me but is also concerned for her brother. Eventually, when Evan is eight, Rosier Sr. gives in and they move to England, where he meets one Penelope Lovegood, an aristocratic pureblood witch, wealthy and recently widowed, with a young daughter (yes Lovegood is Pandora's maiden name to me. let Xenophilius take her name. I think he'd do it). Cue a fast and whirlwind romance that ends in a quick marriage a few months later, making Evan and Pandora, both eight years old, step siblings (!).

And Evan is really shy and kind of odd because he’s never really been around children or many people and hasn’t been socialized. And Pandora is supposed to be the Lovegood Angel, mostly because her mother is generally well-liked and Pandora is a little adorable blonde girl who knows how to smile and stay quiet at gatherings. BUT Pandora is Pandora: at eight years old, she spends most of her time either reading/writing wild stories and plays based off weird/gruesome myths and trying to summon demons or raise the dead in her backyard. So obviously Evan and Pandora are fast friends and quickly become inseparable <3

-up until 1975, if you asked Sirius, Andy, Bella, and Cissa who their favourite member of the family was, they'd all say Reg. Bella thought he was polite and impressionable enough to follow the rules, Sirius loved him deeply until he realised he couldn't be saved, Cissa had a really strong bond with him and they were always super close, and Andy saw a sweet shy boy stuck in a vile home and hoped he'd be able to get out one day. Andy and Sirius eventually started choosing each other as their favourites but their love for Reg never really went away.

-trans Andy. That's it. Andromeda is a trans girl.

-When they were young, Walburga and Alphard were really close and she always protected him even if there was no need to. As he grew into his own person and began to distance himself from the family values, she was the first to notice and chose to alienate him from the family. She erased any sign of ever loving her little brother and swore to never bother wasting time on a stupid child again

-in first year, the sorting hat was deciding whether to put Reg in Ravenclaw or gryffindor, it only placed him in Slytherin because he threatened it

-as kids, Andy and Cissa couldn't sleep until Bella had read them a bedtime story

-Druella was theorised to be part Veela, which sparked tension between the black and rosier families because her birth was heavily debated upon. She completely ignored the rumours and strived on angering other purebloods because she knew that despite their hatred, she was untouchable

-Alphard left money to Reg too but it was sneakily withheld to keep him from having enough power to get out. Cissa got some too but it all went to Lucius, there was no fear of her getting away because she was deemed 'secure' enough due to her marriage.

-Orion and Walburga allowed Reg to transition after Sirius left as they thought that if they made it look like he had enough 'freedom' within the family, he wouldn't try a similar thing

-Narcissa really liked Ted but couldn't admit it out loud. She thought he was cool and wished they could be friends

-Cygnus would blame all his mistakes on his siblings.

-this is dark but Cygnus and Orion killed Alphard. They didn't tell Walburga bc they were scared of her and couldn't predict her reaction but she knew from the moment it was announced

-Sirius and Bella used to be pretty close but the relationship deteriorated even faster the older they got

I haven’t been on here in forever, but i realized i never shared my rosier twins headcanon. SO, here it goes:

basically, they’re not twins… but they kinda are. HEAR ME OUT. So when i was in primary school I had a teacher who was a twin and married a twin. my teacher, twin A, married a man, twin 1. BUT, her sister, twin B, married twin 1’s twin brother, twin 2. So basically, two sets of twins married each other. AND to make it weirder, both couples had a kid, (couple A1 had a boy, and couple B2 had a girl) THE SAME YEAR. I might be getting this wrong, but their kids are like a month apart. The girl was my little cousin’s best friend and i grew up around them, so it was never weird to me, but now that i look back on it, it was quite a peculiar situation.

The hc goes as follows: Druella Black, née Rosier, married Cygnus Black (brother of Walburga and Alphard Black). They had 3 daughters; Bellatrix, Andromeda, and Narcissa. Druella had 2 younger identical twin brothers. For the sake of the story, let’s name them Pierrick and Emelien Rosier. Since Druella was a woman and was married off the ancient and most noble house of incest, the house of Black, Pierrick and Emelien shared the responsibilities of being the Rosier heir. The Rosier boys were married off to a set of identical twins girls (again, just humour me) of the Nott family, (I’m choosing names by throwing darts on a wall here), Pascaline and Esther Nott.

So these 2 sets of twins were married off, and were eventually made to have kids. Now, whether this be by accident or on purpose, both couples got pregnant and were expecting their first (and only) child on September 22nd, 1960. Pierrick and Pascaline Rosier were to have a little girl, while Emelien and Esther Rosier were to have a little boy.

On September 7th 1960, Evan Rosier was born 15 days before his due date. On October 7th 1960, Pandora Rosier was born 15 days after her due date (I know 15 is a lot, but I do know someone born 2 weeks late so let me have this.) Making Evan and Pandora cousins, but also genetic siblings, who, for all intents and purposes, could be mistaken as fraternal twins. Since their fathers shared the duties of heirs and their mothers were quite close, being sisters and all, they lived on 1 vast property, containing 2 mansions. They were raised as close as siblings, being much closer to each other than their other cousins, the Black daughters.

This also means that Sirius and Regulus (sons of Walburga and Orion Black) shared cousins with the Rosier not-twins, Evan and Pandora. Those cousins being Bellatrix, Andromeda, and Narcissa. Which is a whole ass other post.

evan rosier headcanons?!

I have seen some fascinating characterizations of Evan Rosier from others, which is brilliant because he’s close to a blank slate in canon! It may be helpful to see how I build my characters based on canon.

Here’s what we know about Evan:

From a pureblood family. Possibly related to the Black sisters through their mother, Druella (Rosier) Black.

In Slytherin, and part of a gang of future Death Eaters that Snape hung out with, including Wilkes, Mulciber, and Avery.

Was a fierce duelist who took out a chunk of Moody’s nose (Moody was an experienced Auror and considered a powerful fighter)

Chose to fight to the death rather than be captured or surrender. Was killed by Mad-Eye Moody.

Here’s what is logical for us to assume:

Brave, fearless, and violent

Dedicated to Voldemort’s cause and believed in pureblood supremacy

Killed Aurors and/or muggleborns (one of the few Death Eaters that we know was actively fighting in the First Wizarding War)

Close to Barty Crouch Jr. (based on Barty’s reaction to the mention of Evan’s name during Igor’s trial and his targeting Mad-Eye Moody well before he teaches at Hogwarts)

Knowledgeable of Dark Arts

Raised in a household that espoused pureblood supremacist ideals (multi-generational Death Eaters)

Pureblood supremacy reinforced at Hogwarts (by other Slytherin students and his friends)

Here are my personal head canons about Evan (based on the above and my imagination)

Close to his family and has at least one sibling (I like to write Pandora Lovegood as his sister, but I’ve seen others add Felix as a younger brother). He gives me protective older brother vibes.

Intelligent, but not particularly interested in school. Favorite class is Care of Magical Creatures because it’s outdoors and potentially dangerous. Definitely in dueling club.

Generally keeps to himself when he’s not around his friends. (I do find it interesting that Snape’s “gang” are not referred to as friends).

Friends with Barty and Regulus

In a modern muggle AU:

Shaggy blonde hair, average height and build, physically unremarkable.

Bisexual or Demisexual

Ambivert

Prefers a few close friends to several acquaintances. Is codependent with his close friends, but not in a clingy way.
