The identity of the model whose likeness graced the cover of Duran Duran’s album “Rio” has finally been revealed.

Marcie Hunt-Dinkel, the co-owner of a small winery in Napa, is the woman with the “cherry ice cream smile” who inspired Patrick Nagel’s artwork for the classic 1982 album, experts confirmed.

The band’s fans spent decades searching for the original image used by the Playboy illustrator. Over the weekend, Mark Walker, a Nagel expert, and art broker Monica Moynihan, a fan of the artist, announced their discovery on Instagram.

If Rio’s true identity really is death, how long was it until they met? When Agatha absorbed the magic of her coven, killing them, she immediately fled. When death surveyed the scene, did she wonder who could be powerful enough to do this? Was it a game of unintentional cat and mouse, with Agatha leaving behind a trail of drained witches and rio, death, followed, reaping souls and curious as to who was responsible? Curious and enamored. And if Agatha wasn’t in control of her powers, repeatedly absorbing magic and pilling up bodies, did she think herself a monster?

Agatha teetering on dying, expressing: “I don’t deserve to live, not after what I’ve done. I lied, I tried, but it was all a lie! I told them I can be good, but I can’t! I just- everyone I touch! My being, my magic! There is no good in me.”

And Rio, perhaps appearing in a physical form in the space between the living and dead, telling her: “You are extraordinary, witch. You control what I cannot, conducting energy. The movement of life itself. I can only reap what others sow.”

Rio, enamoured that a mortal being could control what she, whose job as death, was to claim the remnants of, but wasn’t allowed to interfere with. And Agatha, shocked that someone so divine, so powerful, would find beauty in her and her darkness.

But why is Rio, as emphasized by her surname “Vidal” so full of vitality? “They always think me so dark, a shriveled, dying thing. But I can make the flowers bloom, where do you think they rise from?”

Agatha knows. “The decay of others. The transference of energy is natures song. If anything, like my magic, I am the shriveled, decaying thing, not you. You are natural, promised. I am not.”

But Rio can feel Agatha’s pulse, has witnessed her chaotic explosions of magic that elapse time and fuses other witches vitality to her own. She is alive, disruptive to the cycle, but that isn’t what makes her so intriguing? “Whoever said that a wilted flower is any less fragrant, any less beautiful?”

Maybe this dance took centuries, maybe years. But they were never far apart.

I am aching at this parallel. She gave this beautiful speech about how scared she is because she sees how willing Miles is to embrace the world and all she wants is for him to be loved and accepted wherever he goes. Shes scared that if shes not with him, he wont have that.

The same cruelty she was so afraid of the universe giving him is exactly what he got. I'm so fucked right now. He started out so eager to be a part of something bigger and it ended with him running home terrified and the first thing he tried to do was confide in her again. I cant do this.

I don’t know why people think we’re going to get more backstory about Agatha, Rio, or their relationship. They couldn’t even focus on Agatha in her own show, you think she’s going to get more than a cameo in the future? Come on now. They did exactly what they wanted, what they always do. They took really interesting female characters, played by incredible actresses, and they sidelined all of them to prop up the real main character. The guy. 🤷‍♀️ But hey, we should be grateful for what they gave us right? Or else we won’t get any other disjointed, weirdly characterized, doomed to die lesbians. What a shame that would be.
