~Much Obliged- Everyone deals with grief differently. Some take to drinking, others devote themselves to charity. Adrien Agreste? Well, he became a cowboy. Marinette Dupain-Cheng is a witch, one of very few in the world. She knows what it’s like to be doubted, and assumed delusional. Maybe that’s why they got along so well. Or maybe it’s just because they both like big hats. AU where everything is the same, except instead of superheroes, Adrien is a Cowboy and Marinette is a witch. (Unfinished) (Based on a AU by @bugaboo-n-bananoir)
*I’ll Handle This- “I’ll solve all your problems,” Plagg had said. “You just have to agree to it.” A fixed relationship with his father, Lila to stop bothering him, and Ladybug to fall in love with him? Who wouldn’t agree to that? Except Plagg was the God of Destruction and Chaos and had a more…hands-on approach. Adrien just wants his body back. (Body swap fic)
The Ghost of Smokey Joe- Adrien Agreste was acting bizarre. Stilted body language, plastic smile, and he seemed to have forgotten how close they were. Before she can get the truth out of him, Marinette finds herself as the sole heir to the Gabriel brand and the mansion, following the murder-suicide of both Adrien and Gabriel Agreste. The mystery continues as Tikki explains that Adrien was Chat Noir...but if Adrien is six feet under, why is Chat Noir still running around?

Queering KH: Part 2
How to Queer this Anime Game? By me, an American nerd lol
Pictured: Dream. Drop. Distance. Sequel. 8)))
What is Queering
I’m so excited to talk about this okay this is literally the only fun thing I get to do as an English major anymore lmao.
“Queering a text” is the academic term for taking a given text and extracting the queer subtext of it, or applying a queer reading to it. It is taking a piece of literature, film, or art and reading into it for the gay coding. It is an especially important tool for reading old literature written during periods of extreme homosexual oppression, wherein the author would be forced to hide hints of homosexuality under layers and layers of superficial text.
Pictured: Sora and Riku battling Ursula as she means to wreck their ship, mirroring the disaster that Sora’s friends Eric and Ariel (lovers) faced at sea.
As a post-structuralist, I am also here to inform you that every text is made up of intertextual influence. This means whether the JK Rowlings of the world intended it or not, their characters may well be queer coded because of the unconscious influence of homoerotic customs in our culture that have permeated the text. It’s why people speculated that Newt Scamander was gay, because he showed little interest in Tina and preferred to focus on his beasts, which is not normative for a male protagonist in straight media. People likewise considered that Merida from Pixar’s Brave might be gay, because she had no interest in dating men and wanted to live a wild lifestyle traditionally associated with masuculinity, things that are pretty in line with lesbian coding. And let me tell you, lgbt claimed Queen Elsa IMMEDIATELY for very good reason. Pretty much everything about her journey, purposefully or not, makes for an strikingly overt gay metaphor. Let it Go is a coming out song for a woman suffocating under normativity all her life, deal with it.
Same, Elsa.
Oh whoops I accidentally pasted this picture of Riku here.
Keep Cultural Distinctions in Mind
Something else important I want to point out is that different cultures are- different lol. They are going to vary. What is queer coding here is not necessarily queer coding in Japan. A man presenting femininely in American media would certainly get him coded as gay. A bishonen in an anime though? Not so much. Men bathing together in Japan is common practice so that would mean nothing gay over there. In America however, you have things like this vine.
In which 2 dudes are chilling as far away as possible from each other in a hot tub to prove they are not gay lol.
So when I say the male members of Organization XIII bathe together, it means literally nothing in a Japanese context.
But let me tell you this: homosexual mlm tend to enjoy bathing with other dudes. Sexual attraction is sexual attraction no matter where you go. So how would you queer code a Japanese character as gay in a hot tub context?
By American logic, if the straight thing to do is sit 5 feet apart in a hot tub, then the inverse, the gay thing to do, would be 2 men sitting very close together in a hot tub. So if I were to code 2 American male characters as gay in a hot tub context, that is what I would do. But if I really wanted to hammer it home, I would ALSO have them blushing so there is no straight explanation for their closeness.
And for a Japanese character, for whom bathing with men might well mean nothing, I’d definitely have them physically blush, so that you know it does NOT just “mean nothing” to him...
Oh look at that. Amano went out of her way to draw Roxas blushing at the concept of bathing with men. So when I say “the members of Orginization XIII bathe together”, you know that means something to Roxas, cuz the coding tells us so. There are indeed certain ways you can depict a shonen being either interested in or at least affected by that idea. You just have to mind those codes telling you what the character really feels, especially when they can’t really say it.
Speaking of blushes, Amano uses them a lot.
They’re a pretty effective tool for hiding gay coding into your characters cuz an anime character might blush for any number of reasons, from being flustered by their crush,
to being flustered because they don’t have a crush.
If you’ve ever translated Japanese media, (I haven’t, but I have friends who do), you know that Japanese is very vague which means you need the whole context to properly understand a scene. It’s a similar situation with queer coding. Consider this scene of Roxas blushing.
If Roxas felt positively about the insinuation that he and Xion are holding hands, how might one code this? Well, if he’s feeling really excited about it in a positive way, you might draw him smiling or expressing flattery on his blushing face. However, Roxas reacts negatively, with a frown on his blushing face. This insinuates he does not like this idea at all, especially since he also shuts it down right away in his dialogue.
But you might say “Well how do we know he isn’t just shy?” to which I say- well we can’t know. That’s the whole point of queer coding in literature. It is to say a character is queer but without actually saying it, to give plausible deniability for safety. It is to suggest a character is queer but without any confirmation. It does not mean that the character isn’t queer, however. It just means it cannot be confirmed by the text alone. However, a bold text that is very determined to have hidden queer characters without any straight explanations, will provide coding that has very little or no straight explanation.
Back to the Roxas and Xion dialogue^. This scene alone cannot confirm or deny anything. As I explained however, the suggestion that Roxas is not straight IS there. Considering the whole context, also, this scene is another piece of “evidence” to add to the pile of suggestions that Roxas isn’t straight. This coupled with the bathing panel, and this panel of him admiring Axel, his male mentor, with deep flattery during his first day of adventuring, all exist.
Roxas does not express negative sentiments in his blushing at men, nor does he say anything dismissive to them. When he blushes at Xion’s comment, however, it is with a negative reaction. Consider also that if the author wanted Roxas to appear straight, she would present them in ways that allude to straightness and NOT in ways that allude to queerness. Roxas would not do suggestively queer things like blush in flattery at Axel calling him special and then dismiss Xion’s suggestion that they are holding hands if he were simply coded as straight. Queering a text sometimes requires a lot of critical thought like this. This is because again, these things are hidden, and sometimes hidden really well so that unsuspecting straight people will not even consider the queer suggestions. This is one of the advantages Nomura has in his favor with Kingdom Hearts: by making it so convoluted, the gay text can be forward, strong, and blatant but remain undetected by straight powers. This keeps the series safe from oppressive scrutiny. Characters like Namine and Xion can exist as literal illustrations of compulsory-heterosexuality. And people will still think Sora and Riku are straight.
Even if I don’t know all the queer codes Japanese culture might specifically have, (and I do not, I do not live in Japan nor have any semblance of what that is like beyond what my friends who have lived there can tell me, and what I can research while sitting in my pajamas in Kentucky lol), there are certain things that are rather universal. Blushing, physical contact, lingering gazes, etc etc. Attraction is attraction and certain body language and other physical symbols will translate and will travel. So that’s the majority of what I will have to focus on.
But I do want you to know that rainbows are still gay in Japan.
Finally I also want to express that cultural intermingling is a thing. We do not live in bubbles, especially with the internet. Our cultures affect each other ALL the time. Although Kingdom Hearts is primarily a Japanese series, it is consciously tailored to appeal to both America and Japan. This is by design given the idea was to marry a Japanese hit like Final Fantasy with an American phenomenon like Disney’s media. This is why they take special care in minding the English translations and dubbing of the KH games (when they are able to do so, mistakes are still very often made and i hate it cuz they’re usually heterosexual-agenda-pushing “mistakes” =~=). The games are so intimately tied to both the Japanese and American cultures they are derived from which is part of why accurate translations are so important. And given what they would mean for queer audiences, what they represent for queer people makes accurate translations even MORE important. Some things get quite lost in translation, and some things are grossly added in translation. We will discuss that down the line...
A brief aside that I implore you to ignore:
On the subject of Roxas not being straight, I have heard of one really fun queer motif in Japanese media which is ”ryoutoutsukai (両刀使い)”, “the two sword fencer”: the dual wielding bisexual. Now- I do not necessarily think this is a means of coding Roxas as bisexual, and beyond that, from what I’ve heard in my research on bisexuality in Japan, certain age groups don’t even believe in bisexuality there. However, a love of more than one gender exists no matter who is willing to acknowledge it or not, and this motif is there. And Promisekeeper and Oblivion do rather fit the bill of representing homosexuality (Oblivion/Soriku) and heteronormativity (Promisekeeper/Sora and his childhood friend Kairi). So- while i don’t think it means anything, this fun idea is there~ I will say, however, that as far as I can tell, Nomura and his staff know exactly what they’re doing with their queer coding and are well connected to it in both cultures. So I mean- if any anime team would know bisexuality exists and how to code it, I firmly believe the KH team would, so. There is some food for thought for you~
Get ready for part 3, I hope you like TWEWY~ B)

The Lost Princess Chapter 40
Warnings: do I even have to tell you?
Rating: SFW
Yui and Roxy had arrived at Hollow Bastion and began searching for you. They looked all over town but could not find you. But they weren’t about to give up. As they were scanning the town, a Dark Corridor opened up.
“I thought that you were searching for the Spirit,” their father said.
“We are. We know that she’s here, we just don’t know where,” Yui said.
“Heh, she’s probably with that boy toy of her’s,” Roxy said.
“Whatever. If she is with the Keyblade wielder, then I’ll take care of it.” Their father walked back into the Dark Corridor and disappeared.
“Tch, does he always have to ruin our fun?” Roxy asked.
“You know that he has good reason to do so,” Yui said. Roxy grumbled something under her breath and the two of them disappeared.
You and the trio had arrived in Hollow Bastion, where the town was bustling with activity. Moogles were flying through the air selling items, and people were at work trying to rebuild the town. You, Sora, Donald, and Goofy ran in and gazed at the castle in the midst of rebuilding.
“It's Hollow Bastion!” Sora said.
“Gawrsh, it looks kinda different now,” Goofy said.
“I hope Leon and the gang are doing okay,” Donald said. Goofy saw some Soldier Heartless on the roof of a nearby building.
“Uh-oh. Looks like we're gonna have to do some fightin',” he said. You and the trio ran over to the building and took care of the Heartless. You, Sora and company walked through the Marketplace and spotted an elderly duck holding some ice cream near a freezer.
“Uncle Scrooge!?” Donald asked.
“Er, who?” you asked.
“He's Donald's uncle---a business typhoon! Before the Heartless showed up, he traveled the worlds on a Gummi Ship with the King. He was helpin' to set up a traffic system,” Goofy said.
“Transit system!” Donald corrected.
“What's all the racket?” Scrooge asked. He turned around and spotted you four.
“Why, if it isn't Donald! And Goofy! Hello, lads! Aye, you all look hale and hearty!” he said.
“So do you, Uncle Scrooge,” Donald said.
“Ah, if only I were... I canna seem to recreate my favorite old-time ice cream. I'd make millions if I just got it right...” Scrooge looked at the ice cream bar in his hand, licked it, and looked disgusted.
“Terrible...!” he said. You, Sora, Donald, and Goofy made your way to the Borough, where some odd light pedestals appeared and disappeared, as if scanning for something.
“Hey, what's going on?” Donald asked.
“That's the town's defense mechanism.” The four of you turned around and saw Yuffie on top of a building.
“Yuffie!” you and Sora said. Yuffie waved slightly, and saw something behind you four.
“Look out!” she said. Sora's Keyblade flashed into his hands as a Dusk swooped in to hit him. The four of you were quickly surrounded by Nobodies. The four of you disposed of them, and the defense mechanism also helped.
“Hey, you guys!” Yuffie said as she hopped down to the four of you.
“I see you're still in top form,” she said.
“What'd you expect?” you smiled.
“Looks like you're doing okay,” Sora said.
“Well, what did YOU expect?”
“How are the others?” Donald asked.
“Great!”
“Hey, Yuffie! Have you seen the King and Riku?” you asked.
“Nope.” She started to walk off toward Merlin's House.
“But I had a feeling I'd see you guys again,” she said.
“‘We may never meet again, but we'll never forget each other,’” Sora said as he imitated Leon.
“Is that supposed to be Leon?” You, Donald, and Goofy laughed.
“Everybody's working on stuff over at Merlin's house. C'mon!” Yuffie said. Yuffie ran around the corner. You and the trio followed her and entered Merlin's House. Cid was typing at a computer, while Aerith and Leon watched.
“Meet the Hollow Bastion Restoration Committee!” Yuffie said.
“We missed you!” Aerith said.
“Well, if you ain't in top shape,” Cid said.
“I knew it,” Leon said.
“Knew what?” you asked.
“A while back, everyone suddenly remembered you guys, all at the same time.”
“You...remembered? Wait! Does that mean you forgot about us!?” Sora said.
“Thanks!” Donald said, annoyed.
“So where've you guys been all this time?” Yuffie asked.
“We were sleepin',’ Goofy said.
“Where? In cold storage?” Cid asked. You and the trio acted nervously.
“It doesn't matter. This is great. Everyone's together again!” Aerith said.
“So, um...we're trying to find Riku and the King. Have you seen 'em?” you said. Leon, Aerith, and Cid shook their heads.
“Right. Um, do you know anything about Spirits and where they come from?” you said. They shook their heads again.
“Sorry. But let us know if there's anything we can do to help. Okay?” Aerith said.
“Okay. Thanks,” Sora said. Cid got up in you and Sora's face.
“Don't go thankin' us just yet,” he said.
“Hollow Bastion's got a problem. A big problem,” Leon said.
“You mean, like Nobodies? And Heartless?” you asked.
“That's right!” Yuffie said.
“Sounds like you could use our help,” Sora said.
“Then let's cut to the chase. (Y/N), Sora, Donald, Goofy. We were hoping the four of you might give us a hand around here,” Leon said. Sora patted his chest proudly.
“Like we're gonna say, no?” he asked.
“...I forgot who I'm dealing with,” Leon said.
“Hey...what do you mean by that?” Donald asked.
“Just think of it as a sort of ‘Leon compliment,’” Aerith said. Leon opened the door.
“Follow me to the bailey---there's something you need to see,” he said as he left and Merlin appeared.
“Oh! I thought it was you. Right on time!” Merlin said.
“It's Merlin!” Donald said.
“Sora and the gang said they're gonna help out!” Yuffie said.
“Splendid! We'll count on you!” Merlin said.
“Right!” you and the trio said.
“Ah, yes. Did you give them the cards, dear?”
“Oh!” Aerith said. She took out four cards from her dress.
“Here...they're presents for you. Leon thought you might like to have them,” she said. You took one of the cards and flipped it so you could read it.
“Hollow Bastion Restoration Committee Honorary Member!” you said.
“Membership cards!” Donald said.
“Sweet!” Sora said.
“Kinda cool, huh?” Goofy asked. You, Donald, and Sora nodded.
“Hey, thanks, Leahhh...huh?” Sora said. He turned around to the door and saw that Leon was gone.
“Oh no! We're supposed to be at the bailey!” you said.
“Just a moment, you two. What about your magic?” Merlin said.
“Huh? Oh, that's right...” Sora said as he crossed his arms.
“Maybe you forgot it while you were asleep!” Yuffie said.
“Now, what am I to do with you? I suppose I'll have to lend you a few spells. But be careful with them!” Merlin said.
“Thanks, Merlin!” Sora said.
“What about you, (Y/N)? Do you need some spells too?”
“Actually, I can summon a guardian when I want to!” you said.
“Oh! Well, it seems that you’re in good hands then.”
“To the bailey, and fast!” Donald said. you, Sora, and company reached the bailey, and saw Leon looking over the edge at the dark castle far in the distance.
“Look at that,” he said. You and Sora gasped.
“We want to restore Hollow Bastion to what it used to be. Who knows---maybe even something better. There's still a lot to do, but I'm sure we can handle everything--- Except...for that...” Leon said as he pointed to the castle, then pointed to two Dusks walking in the direction of the castle.
“...and that,” he said.
“We'll handle 'em!” Sora said.
“Well, that's good to hear. So Sora, (Y/N)---do you know what's going on, then?”
“There's this guy, Pete, who's been going around plotting with the Heartless. But he's not smart enough to tie his own shoes. The ones we need to worry about are the Nobodies. And there’s two Spirits that I need to take care of,” you said.
“Two Spirits? Interesting.”
“And don’t forget about those Organization XIII guys in charge, too!” Goofy said.
“You called?” someone said. All five of you looked around and saw no one. You and Sora ran out into an open area.
“You're doing well,” the person said.
“Who's that!?” Sora asked as he unsheathed his Keyblade.
“See dad? I told you the Spirit will be with the Keyblade wielder,” a girl said.
“This calls for a celebration...” Several Dusks had appeared. Leon readied his Gunblade. You and Sora chased the Dusks through the bailey. The gate to the inside closed. You, Sora, and Leon helped keep the Nobodies away from the gate.
“The Keyblade...a truly marvelous weapon. Were it only in more...capable hands...” the person said. A group of six people laughed including two girls.
“Show yourselves!” you said. Six cloaked figures appeared and the central one raised his arms while two girls sat in front of them, smirking.
“Organization XIII!” Goofy said.
“Good! Now we can settle this!” Sora said.
“What a shame... And here I thought we could be friends. Yui, Roxy. You know what to do,” the central figure said.
“You got it!” Roxy said. The two girls disappeared and reappeared behind you.
“Surprise!” Yui said. You felt them grab your arms, giving you no way to grab your dagger.
“(Y/N)!” Sora yelled.
“Sora, help!” you said. The two girls took you through a Dark Corridor and disappeared. The figures disappeared with a laugh.
“Stop!” Donald said. He ran to a set of stairs and a single cloaked man appeared before them.
“What's the big idea!?” Donald asked.
“Oopsy-daisy!” the man said.
“Move!” Sora said.
“Now, do you think that's polite, shutting me down like that?”
“I said get outta the way!”
“As if! You can talk all you want, but that won't change a thing.”
“Then we're gonna MAKE you move!” Donald said.
“See, that would work---if I were just any old dude. 'Cept I'm not. I'm with the Organization. Nothing ‘any old’ about me.” (really?! how do explain the whole luxu thing then?!)
“Ha! Tough talk for someone who stood on the sidelines while his Nobody flunkeys did the fighting!” Sora said.
“Oh, dear. I think you got the wrong impression.” The hooded man wagged a finger at Sora.
“You gonna cry?” Sora asked.
“As if! Why don't I remind you how tough the crowd you're dealing with really is?”
“Remind me?” Sora snapped out of it, causing the man to laugh.
“That's RIGHT, he used to give me that same exact look,” the man said.
“I guess you think you can psych me out by saying really random stuff!” Sora said.
“Gee... I just don't know.” The man spread his arms open as if challenging them to strike him. He soon gave up.
“Ugh, you guys are boring,” he said.
“What did you do to (Y/N)?” Sora asked.
“Me? Oh, you’re accusing the wrong person here. That was all Yui and Roxy. The Superior’s daughters. They have the power of a spirit as well. So, they needed (Y/N) to help complete their powers.”
“What do you mean by that?” Sora asked.
“Can’t say. But I do know that those girls will take good care of your precious (Y/N). They’re not that mean, you know.” He looked at them and waved.
“Be a good boy now!” he said.
“Wait!” Donald said. The man disappeared as Donald tried to jump on him.
“Nuts! He got away!” Donald said.
“That was weird. WHO gave him the same look? And what did he mean by taking care of (Y/N)’s powers?” Sora said.
“Y'know, I think he was just tryin' to confuse ya,” Goofy said.
“Yeah, you're right. Only one me!” Sora took out his membership card and read it.
“The Hollow Bastion Restoration Committee Honorary Member---” he said. The card began to glow. Sora gasped and let go of it. It floated in the air to everyone's amazement. The Keyblade started to glow as well.
“Huh?” Sora asked.
“What's this?” Leon asked.
“Gawrsh, ya think...?” Goofy asked. Light flashed from the Keyblade and the card. Wind blew through Sora's clothes and hair as a crown symbol appeared on the ground beneath him. The card revealed a Keyhole and Sora locked it, opening a gateway.
“Ohh...now I get it. That must've been the gate Yen Sid talked about,” he said.
“Oh boy!” Donald said.
“Sorry to run, Leon, but other worlds are calling. And I have to save (Y/N) from the Organization,” Sora said. Leon nodded.
“Organization XIII... They look tough. Be careful out there,” he said.
“See ya soon.” Leon saluted them. Sora's group reboarded the Gummi Ship and noticed that their map had changed.
“Hey! What happened to Twilight Town?” Chip said.
“It's gone!” Dale said. Sora piloted the Gummi Ship through the Asteroid Sweep to the Land of Dragons.
“Don’t worry, (Y/N). I’ll save you,” he said.
To be continued...

The Adventures of Squall
Squall's observations. Hmm. I don't know what Rinoa wants me to do. I guess I'll ask Eli for his notes and just give them to her. *knock knock* "Cheerio good boy, may I help you with anything?" "Do you have notes on that thing Christian was talking about?" "Ahh you've came to the right residence, just let me....hold on just a moment..." He began digging through piles of loose paper, flipping through notebooks, all whilst mumbling to himself. "Alas! Here is one of my more rudimentary charts, but it shall accomplish what you're intial questions preface." It was hard to concentrate, he was talking very fast and using a lot of words that I didn't know. Akio says because of my ASD I sometimes get what he calls "verbal dyslexia" and it's hard for me to comprehend what other people are saying, especially if they talk different from me. I'll have to concentrate very hard if I don't want Rinoa mad at me again. "But see this is where it gets confusing, we have many great forces here, coincidence? Doubtfully so, but these overlapping characteristics I believe have come here for a reason. Many of our members, including myself, have had interactions with Christos, Christian you call him, and I can't imagine why he would let so many familar faces corner him in the same scenario, unless of course he had a plan for each individual. See, I believe..." He pulled out a chair for me that I sat in. I took out my notebook so I could remember what to tell Rinoa. "If you look here on this chart.." he pulled out a large beige canvas with several pictures pinned to it, threads of twine connecting different ones. "First you see here that Christos comes to my noble world and plants himself as Cyrus, the destroyer of worlds. He taints Noah and I am his right hand man. He tells me a great many things, we can go into later. Do realize this isn't in chronilogical order, I have no way of telling yet the timeline of all our respective worlds. "Next he plants himself as an alien, "Jenova" he calls it on Gaia and and infects the whole planet. The only one to save it was Aerith who possesses extrodainary spiritual powers. She was the last chance tho and aside from her sacrifice Geostigma went on beyond her time..." "His next target, alas, Thomas. A young, troubled boy whom Christian fictionalized a companion for. An alter ego of sorts and made thomas believe it was himself. I believe he might have been weak and needed a human body to recover on. At some point Christian went to Aiden and found him by the Sanguis River, which is the border between our world and ubi requiescit dolor or "where sorrow rests. I haven't been able to spot where he showed up in Harry's world, but I do know he was there at some point. He likely was only a death eater of no great importance. Same with Roxas, Christian probably took the form of a nobody, which of course begs the question...." It was really hard for me to take notes as fast as he talked. I was really tryign to spell words better to get in the habit of it. Reading was easy for me, but writing made me nervous. I'll just get the names and maybe i'll remember. "can one become a nobody without having a form first? Perhaps that's it. He was a formed human on one planet and when he was almost destroyed at some theroetical part, he latched onto Thomas but only came back as a nobody which of course is an allusion. Details, details, but where were we? Oh yes, next on his infamous walk through time was of course Aangs world where he brought the powers of darkness to a seemingly balanced world, probably dating back to around...." I needed to yawn, but it seemed rude. I wonder how he knew all of this. He seemed confused himself. Maybe I should talk to some other people. Rinoa will be mad if I only talk to him. I should have gotten more information earlier.
“And of course Akio’s unfortunate fate with him, presenting himself as illusions to drive the man mad I’m sure. I do believe he could do that, his evil seems endless.” He paused and looked around at all his charts and papers. this will be a good time to excuse myself. "I have to use the restroom, excuse me" He didn't seem to notice me leave, he kept talking and looking at his papers. While I was walking I saw Harry with a plastic cup pressed up to a door. As I walked closer to him he dropped the cup and ran. I went to the kitchen. "Hey Zack" He was drinking really fast out of a big water bottle. Some of it was spilling on his black shirt. "Heya buddy, I broke 20 in 80, my new personal best. Gotta love the summer time." "What?" "Oh 20 miles in an hour and 20, a 4 minute average." "...." "So do you know anything about why we had to go to Camp A and Camp B?" "Ulquiorra seemed pretty on edge, everyone getting riled up like that. Maybe it's time for the old man to retire!" "What about the dark world place?" "I don't know much about that, but I tell you I sure don't know want to get to know it better if you know what I mean. Anyways bud, lactic acid builds on stiff muscles, gotta do my cool down." He then clapped me a little hard on the back, it was sort of uncomfortable, then left the room. I continued walking around looking for someone else to talk to. Rikku is on the couch watching a cartoon called the Powerpuff Girls. She is flossing on the couch? Why isn't she in the bathroom. I'll wait until she's done. I'll wait around the corner so she doesn't know I saw her doing it. After about 70 second she dropped the floss on the ground. There was a garbage can right on the table, but I guess she didn't see it.
"Hey" "Uhhh hey..." Her eyes never left the screen. "Do you know anything about the dark spirit place Christian was talking about?" "Hmmm, there was this one story Buddy used to tell us to scare us, it seems like the same thing and i don't know with all this world collide bs i wouldn't surprised if it's the same. "Do you know the story?" "I don't know ask Buddy, i'm busy." "..." Okay I wonder where Buddy is. I heard a basketball hit the basket outside. Sometimes we play basketball together. "Yo, yo, yo man 3 on 3, pussy slayers vs bitch playas." "AW SHIT" "wooof woof woof" "Which ones which?" asked Aang. "My brutha you knows yous a slaya!" on that they bumped their fists together. "I guess that means i'm with you guys" Tifa said and smiled. That means I'm on Adam's and Riku's team. I played basketball up to 21 points. My team lost. I'm good at making baskets, but not as much at passing and working with my team. "Aight, aight, how bout a smoke break and then maybe we'll give ya'll a rematch." As they all began to disperse, I walked up to Buddy. "Rikku said you could tell me a story about the dark place." "Rikku tol you that?" "Yes. The one you use to tell her." He looked both ways and then straight at me. "I don know nuthin about no story." "Okay, sorry." I guess I better ask someone else. I was getting tired. I should have done this earlier, but I see Rinoa tomorrow. I think it would be a good idea to ask Thomas. I'll see if he's in his room. *knock knock* He opened the door slow, but wide and stared at me. "Can you tell me anything about the dark place." He looked surprised and happy. Akio tells me sometimes people's facial expressions don't always show what they mean, but it's a good indicator if I'm confused. I think he wants me to come in. He was sitting in his computer chair and he had clothes folded on his bed so I don't want to sit there and get them dirty. "I find it rather odd you're the one asking me this question. Eli wasn't surprising one bit, but it's not like he'd listen if I did tell him anything." "So you don't know anything?" "Don't know anything? Yeah right. I know everything that I need to. And ultimately however this goes, there's nothing left for me to lose." "...." "I must admit it does get rather boring having to hold back such genius in my mind. Feigning ignorance on all matters that go on here just to be able to thrive. This truly is the best case scenario for me and I know i'm not alone." He was frowning now. I didn't say anything so I know he probably isn't mad at me. I've learned that most people just keep talking if you say nothing. It helps a lot because I usually have nothing to say. "Are you looking for the nitty gritty, the gory details, or simple how're you're involved?" "Rinoa wanted to me to ask people about it. She thinks we're being lied to." "HAH. Just now she thinks she's been lied to?? Foolish girl." "Rinoa is smart." "Perhaps she is, all the same it's all clouded by her ego." "....." "So rinoa wants to know about the dark world they've after all this time brought up. You have to know though, Simon wouldn't have brought it up if there wasn't some gain to him, some strategic reason for his timing. He's a puppet master, he probably knew you would be here talking to me. It's all going just to his plan.....or perhaps he thought I would kick you out and that would keep him advantageous. But he knew that i'd knew that he was planning that." I was getting pretty confused. "Who's Simon?"
He frowned at me. "He's Christian." "Okay." "That's right "Christian" has had many names, many forms. He's wormed his way into many of lives and took everything they had with them. A leech. Of course a leech needs to eat too." I had been in his room almost 15 minutes. It was probably time to talk to someone else. "The dark world, purgatory, the eternal space, the fog, every world has a different name for it. Some are ignorant, but most know that not everyone gets the "good death". It's origin is beyond me, but I know what it is now. And I know he wants to go there. He's looking for something. Or maybe he's helping someone else." "I have to go now." "Then go, i'm not keeping you if that's what you thought" Thomas sneered at me. "..." *door shuts* As I left Thomas's room, Zidane came in really quickly from the front door. He looked really skinny these days. He pulled off his knapsack and begin looking for something deep within it. I don't know why he still uses his old knapsack, a good messenger bag would look a lot nicer and be a lot less stressful on his shoulders. "OKAY DADDY'S HOME, who wants to party???" As people began pouring into the dining room, they gathered around as he poured a large bag of cocaine out onto the clean glass table top. I remembered when I went fishing the other day how when I dropped bread crumbs in little fish would swarm to all try and get the food at once. It reminded me of that. I used to do cocaine sometimes with Irvine and his friends, but Akio says that it might make my OCD and ASD worse. I didn't want to mess with it, I had already had a stressful day. That's good enough for now. I'll just go to bed and maybe in the morning someone will talk about it and I won't have to ask. I did my bedtime rituals in the normal order, brush teeth, clean face, comb hair, change out of all clothes into two pairs of fresh underwear, socks, and pajamas. It was nice tonight I could turn off the air conditioner. I rested my head on the pillow. The cocaine was making everyone rowdy and I could hear it. Great I could hear Aiden yelling from his room that was right next to mine, on the side my bed was pushed against. I've asked Garnet multiple times if he could switch rooms, but she says no one wants his room cause it smells like blood and has a bunch of holes in the walls. And I was definitely not going to switch my room, everyone was right in it, it didn't need to change. I don't want to spy on people, but last time I said I wouldn't do what Rinoa wanted she threatened to not talk to me for a month. Instead, she talked, or more so bitched, the entire month at me, never letting me have some peace and quiet. I don't want that again.
I took out my nightly form to see how I’’m doing and filled it out.
Anxiety: 8/10
Mood: 6/10
Insomnia: 2/10
OCD: 7/10
Triggers: Talking to people, missing lunch because no one would leave the kitchen, having to ask questions, shoe lace breaking and not having a replacement.
Medication issues: None
Overall: 6/10
He kept yelling, but I could hear another voice too. He often talked to himself so at least when someone else was there, it was only half yelling. I really didn’t want to do it, but I felt Rinoa demanding me why I didn’t. I didn’t like lying to her.
I remembered Harry earlier. I poured my water cup out and pressed my ear against the bottom of it. "Denny if that's the case, what do you have to lose?" "EVERYTHING. DON'T YOU GET IT!!! I've been waiting too long for you to FUCK things up." "Well I do admire your dilligence Denny, you truly never give up." "I will never give up, I will never stop until things are right." "Being when you have Jenn back?" "NO SHIT. All you are is a pawn. There is no other reason you're here." "The life of a king or the life of a pawn, really only is affected by perspective. I take my place with pride and am grateful for whatever else life I get to cherish." "I've waited long enough, i'll wait forever, but I sure as fuck don't want to." "Aside from your said goals, I am curious, did J really return from there?" "Fuck if I know. It has nothing to do with me." "There feels as if there is things you aren't telling me Denny." "WELL HOW THE FUCK DID IT GO LAST TIME I DID." "Please.....I want to help." "As long as Christian holds up his end of the deal, I won't need to use you. And he has the same goal." "I get the feeling you two are not alone in your quest. Are there others?" "Yeah but they're not important really. Just gotta an eye on them." "Even more useless than I?" "No one could be more useless than you." "Ahh how appropriate I and Lana are spending our time in this waiting room together, both readily discardable part of the larger schemes of the world. I've never felt quite so zen before." "haha maybe they should bring Liza around and see how well you two get along." "I believe they would get along splendidly. they like the same music, both androgenous yet stunningly feminine, thrill seeking." "Ur forgetting one thing, cock makes bitches crazy, look at Jenn and Yuna. They'd be the best friends in the world if Yuna hadn't sucked my dick." "And by Jenn, you mean that girl masaqurading as your girlfriend?" "Watch it fucker." "I'm only stating your sentiment seems strangely misplaced seeing Yuna is in real danger whereas "Jenn" is only what you make her to be" "I don't think anything has to happen to her, but if it does she knew what she was getting into." "Yes, but that was a long time ago. A long time before now I would have sacrificed myself for your well being, do you think things are the same now?" ".......what do you mean..? but you....just said...WHAT THE FUCK DO YOU MEAN??????!!!!!!!" "I was only teasing Denny, of course I'm here at your service, seeing of course you are the sole reason I am here. I don't think it's wise to betray our gods." "Heh yeah right, I'm your fucking god." "Indeed I am in religious awe." "heh yeah sure. So fucker whatchu got in the briefcase." "Zidane went and filled my reservoirs, I'm back in business" "Hook it up bitch." "I wouldn't have it any other way." After that they started talking quieter in a way that didn't bother me, Finally I can go to sleep.

Welcome back to the SI/OC series, where I introduce my various brainchildren. This time around, though, we’re gonna do something a little different. Apart from giving you a couple of pics, I’ll also give you snippets that I’ve written out. This is mostly because I have nothing near resembling an actual fic and have literally just written segments.
It’s kinda long, so click the expand to read on.
So...this SI/OC is one that I’ve had in my head for a while. I mentioned her in one of Klonoadreams’s streams and figured I should probably mention her in this SI/OC series too. She is one of two for the Kingdom Hearts fandom, and when the mood strikes, I try to flesh out her story a little more. Maybe one day I’ll have something publishable. For now, here’s Ignis, a fellow student of Master Eraqus, along with Terra, Aqua, and Ventus:
This is her before everything goes to pot, however. The thing with this SI is that, despite her knowledge of the games, and despite all of her efforts to prevent the events of Birth by Sleep, she still fails. Master Xehanort is not a man easily defeated, after all. So, it is a weary, heartbroken Ignis that finds herself on Destiny Islands after she loses everything yet again...
OoOoOoOoOoOoOo
'This is...'
I smiled, knowing it was a bit wry in nature. After all, whenever I'd given the thought to being here, I'd never quite pictured it...like this.
"Whoa, you were right! There is another weird person here today!"
I found myself laughing at the comment without meaning to, the reaction startling me and filling me with sorrow all at once. It had felt like ages since I'd laughed so freely...
"Hey...are you okay?"
I looked at the two boys before me, ready to assure them that everything was fine but...the words just didn't want to come out.
"You're crying..."
Fingers touched my cheeks, only to come away wet. How did I not realize...?
I gave a start when I suddenly felt small arms wrap around me, the warmth of the action seeping into the chill that had seemed to settle in me these past days.
"Don't cry," Sora pleaded, his own eyes staring earnestly into my own. "Is there anything I can do to make you feel better?"
If my next laugh was mixed with a sob, I didn't think any of us would tell.
"You already have," I told him once I'd calmed down, making sure my smile was gentle.
"Really?"
"Yes. I think a hug was just what I needed. Thank you."
"Oh! I'm glad! I don't like seeing people sad."
I smiled, the warmth continuing to spread as I studied him. I'd thought...it would be strange to see them as children while not being the same age, but...this felt right.
Suddenly, I knew what I had to do.
"My name is Ignis," I began softly, "and I come from somewhere far from these shores."
"I knew it," Riku piped up. "You're from the outside world! Just like-...uhh..."
I chuckled a bit at his attempts to back up, clearly not wanting to break his promise.
"Going by your comment earlier, I'll have to assume you've met Terra or Aqua?"
"Yeah! Miss Aqua was nice!"
"Terra was too," Riku added.
"And he left you with something special," I finished.
"Err...yeah."
"What?! He gave you a present!? No fair!"
"Hey now, don't get upset. What's your name?"
"Sora!"
"Sora..." I put my hand out, smiling at his gasp when my Keyblade appeared. "Terra entrusted your friend with something very special because he must have seen something in him...just like I see it in you."
It wasn't just because I knew what was to come. Riku's light was...amazing- there was no doubt about that. But Sora-...Sora gave off his own light too. A light so warm, and loving, and kind that it chased away the darkness and made me feel safe. I know the games had always made Sora's light out to be something special, but...Being able to feel it, and knowing that both Aqua and Terra had passed him up for one reason or another made me want to cry all over again at the injustice of it all.
Sora would not be the backup plan. Not if I had anything to say about it.
"In your hand, take this key..."
OoOoOoOoOoOoOo
"Master!/Master Ignis!"
I groaned, turning over in my cot and doing my best to block out their yells and subsequent pounding at my door.
"Master!"
I yelped when a large weight practically threw itself upon me, sighing at the sound of Sora's giggles and Riku's snickers. Still, it wasn't quite enough to stop the smile that tugged on the edge of my lips.
"Alright, alright, I'm up. What are you two doing here so early anyway?"
Sora propped his chin up on his hands from his position on top of me and grinned. "It's not early. You just slept in!"
"Yeah...I thought adults were supposed to be responsible and stuff."
Riku laughed when I threw a pillow in his direction.
"You're lucky I like you," I said without any real heat.
OoOoOoOoOoOoOo
"This form was a particular favorite of Master Eraqus," I began, smiling slightly when I saw how much Sora and Riku were struggling to remain in position. "Not so much one of ours."
"I-...I can't feel my legs!"
"Don't tell me you-...you can't handle it, Sora!"
"Your legs are shaking too!"
I felt a laugh bubble up. God, those two really were like-
A sharp pang shot through me, and despite my best efforts, it left me feeling desolate all over again.
'I'll see them again. I know I will...but...twelve years is a long time.'
And I would be the only one to actually age.
OoOoOoOoOoOoOo
"Kairi, I understand that you don't like fighting like Sora and Riku do. Really. But...Keyblades don't just go to anyone- you have to be chosen. The fact that you have one...will you at least learn the basics? You don't have to use them, but you'll know them. Just in case."
She mulled it over for a while, before nodding.
"Thank you," I sighed out with a relieved smile.
"It...means a lot to you...doesn't it."
Despite my efforts to the contrary, the question made me freeze. By this point, the boys had given up any pretenses of being busy and were watching in unabashed curiosity. With a welling sadness that hadn't really dulled these past years and an ache in my heart, I nodded.
"It does," I confirmed quietly. "But more than that, I just want you three to be safe. To know how to take care of yourselves if-...Anyway, this is the best I can do."
OoOoOoOoOoOoOo
"Master Ignis, when-...when is Master Terra coming back?"
The question, sudden and unexpected as it was (though I really should have seen it coming), hit hard. All of a sudden, it felt like there was a vice-like grip around my heart, and I flinched so violently that there was no way I could have hidden the reaction.
And Riku- who was so clever and so observant that I was constantly reminded of Aqua -didn't fail to catch on.
"...He's not coming back. And...Master Aqua isn't either."
There was a deep hurt in his eyes, and hints of betrayal. All three of them were aware of how the relationship between Masters and students worked by now, which meant that they knew that despite the fact I was teaching all of them, only Sora was my true apprentice. The rightful heir of my teachings, so to speak.
"Oh, Riku," I breathed out, feeling that all too familiar twist of my heart, though this time, it was accompanied by the sharp sting of tears. "They-...They can't."
Riku blinked, the hurt look being replaced by a questioning one. A few feet back, Sora and Kairi watched on, too hesitant to get closer, but not enough to leave their friend completely.
I sighed, and if there was a breath of a sob mixed in, well, no one would know but me.
"Come on...I think it's time I told you."
They were young yet, but if I didn't tell them now, I didn't think I'd ever work up the strength to do it.
OoOoOoOoOoOoOo
"...When I finally managed to get back to Radiant Garden, there was no sign of Terra or Aqua- the only hint of their fate being the lingering chill in that courtyard. I-...I can only assume they were dragged into the Realm of Darkness. I spent the next few months searching for a way to get to them, as well as keeping an eye out for Ventus, but..."
"...You didn't find either," Riku finished sadly.
"No. Eventually, I found myself here, on these islands. When I saw you, I-...I knew that I couldn't leave. It would have been the height of negligence and cruelty to move on- to leave you ignorant of the legacy you bear. I knew Terra well enough to say that he had every intention of coming back for you, but since he can't, I will do my best to train you in his stead."
He was silent for a while, mulling it over. Finally, he nodded.
"Thank you for telling me, Master Ignis."
"What about Kairi?" Sora asked, his head tilted. "If Mister Terra chose Riku, and you chose me, who chose Kairi?"
"That would be Aqua," I told them. "Just like I could feel Terra's claim on Riku, I can feel Aqua's on Kairi."
"...I don't remember," Kairi said.
"Perhaps it's one of the things you've forgotten," I told her gently, even though I knew that even if she had remembered her meeting with Aqua, she still wouldn't have known when she was given the power. "But even if the mind forgets, the heart remembers."
OoOoOoOoOoOoOo
The stars were disappearing.
I looked up at the night sky, unease settling in my stomach as I watched another one blink out of existence. It was the third one this week, and while I now knew that some stars actually were just stars in this universe, I also knew that those weren't what was going out.
Xehanort was on the move again.
I'd been wondering about it for a while- mostly since the finer details of the games had slipped from my memory as the years passed -whether or not his plan had some sort of deadline he needed to meet. It seemed I'd gotten my answer. The question now, however, was how were things going to play out.
I was under no delusions that I hadn't derailed things. I had not only trained Sora, Riku, and Kairi, but I had actively done my best to keep them hidden. My unease mostly stemmed from worry over whether it had been enough. If it hadn't, then odds were that Xehanort was going to be paying a visit to the islands soon.
Just the thought of it made my blood run cold.
Ten years, and it still didn't feel like I'd had enough time. I had known what was going to happen, and I hadn't been able to stop it. It had taken everything Terra, Aqua, Ventus and I had had to fight him, and we'd still lost. This time, I was alone. If he came-...
If he came, I probably wasn't going to make it out alive.
I swallowed, feeling my eyes burn as I continued to stare up at the sky. Years ago, that was all I could have hoped for. Anything to escape the agony brought about by losing everything yet again. Now, however...
"Miss Ignis!"
"Master Ignis!"
"Master!"
I found that...I didn't want to go.
"Master...?"
I sighed, a small, wry smile making its way onto my face at the voice. He would be the one to run into me tonight, wouldn't he?
"You should be asleep, Sora," I scolded, though anyone could tell it was halfhearted at best.
"I can't," he said, settling down next to me.
"You should at least try," I told him. "You've got a big day tomorrow."
His grin was just as bright now as it was when I'd first met him.
"That's exactly why!" he exclaimed, turning his gaze up to the night sky. "We've always heard the stories, but to know that we'll actually get to go out there! To see other worlds! It's amazing!"
I couldn't help the fond smile that slipped onto my face at that. He was so much like them, and yet, the warmth he always seemed to instill was unique to him alone.
I hoped that by nurturing it in him, I'd thrown Xehanort's, and even the mysterious Master of Master's, plans awry.
"But," Sora continued, his much more subdued and hesitant tone instantly drawing my attention, "there's...something I've been meaning to ask."
"What is it?"
"If-...If Riku hadn't been chosen when you first got here...or if Kairi had already been with us and not chosen by Master Aqua...would you have still chosen me?"
I blinked, honestly taken aback at the question. "What?"
He seemed a bit more embarrassed now, but the question still seemed to be weighing him down. "It's just- since you've started teaching us how to sense light and darkness in others, me an' Kairi noticed that Riku's...bright. Like, really bright. Then I noticed later that I couldn't sense any darkness in Kairi, and I just-...I couldn't help but think that-...that I-..."
"That you were chosen only because they were first."
He winced and I felt my heart twist painfully at his small nod.
"Sora, no," I told him, perhaps a bit too vehemently, but maybe that would make him listen more. "No, that's not it at all."
I placed a gentle hand on his shoulder and waited until he was looking back at me to continue. "Sora, even if I'd had the option, I still would have chosen you. Precisely because you are you."
"Because...I'm me?"
I smiled. "Maybe Riku's a bit brighter, and maybe Kairi's a bit purer, but you...You want to know what I see when I look at you?"
He hesitated for a moment, probably afraid of what I might say, but nodded in the end.
"I see a warm light. Soft and gentle, like a sunset on the beach. It was that very light that reached out to me ten years ago, and pulled me back from the abyss I could feel myself starting to slip into. Sora, I wasn't kidding when I said your hug was just what I needed. That warmth- your warmth -kept me from ending up just like the others."
He blinked rapidly, his eyes becoming glassy with tears, and I sighed softly before throwing an arm around his shoulders and pulling him close. Even after all I'd done, Sora had still ended up doubting himself and his place as a Keyblade wielder. Still, at least this had happened now, when I could set him straight, as opposed to later, when I...might not be around.
"...Do you really mean that?" he asked quietly.
"I do," I reassured him. "Never doubt yourself, Sora. If you ever find yourself feeling low just remember this:
I chose, and would always choose, you. Not Riku. Not Kairi. You. Because you are kind, and cheerful, and strong- even if you may not believe it at times. You also have something special that they don't: a warm light that welcomes all. A light that shelters and heals. I know, without a doubt, that you will do great things. Amazing things." I smiled down at him, my heart lightening at the small smile on his face as he looked back. "And you trust your master, don't you? So trust in me now."
"...Okay."
OoOoOoOoOoOoOo
Sora watched with growing concern as his master paled. His gaze fell onto the figure behind her, his eyes widening when he realized it was the man in the cloak he'd spoken with just yesterday.
"I must admit to some surprise," the man continued, seemingly unaffected by the storm that raged around them. "I thought I'd gotten rid of all of Eraqus's pupils, yet here you are- with students of your own, no less..."
She stiffened, finally whirling around to face him with a glare. "You will get nowhere near them, Xehanort!"
Suddenly the gravity of the danger was clear, and going by how Riku and Kairi seemed to freeze right next to him, they realized it too.
Xehanort. The man who was responsible for all of the bad things that had happened to Master Ignis and her friends. Because of him, Mister Terra couldn't be here to teach Riku, and Miss Aqua and Ventus were lost somewhere.
It was because of him that his master was so sad and lonely.
Even his laugh was sending chills down his spine. "Is that so? You may have ten more years under your belt, girl, but you're still nowhere close to my level."
OoOoOoOoOoOoOo
...To be continued?
Anyway, I hope you enjoyed this! Maybe I’ll post snippets of my other, as of yet, unpublished SI/OC fics if you all like this well enough. I leave you with a picture of how Ignis looks at the end of these snippets, or rather, at the beginning of the events of KH1:

This is the Good Life
I read a ton of manga. I find the content coming out of Japan to be far more genuine and creative than the sh*tshow comic industry we have here in the states. I’m not saying there isn’t good content to be found in the massive annals of Marvel and DC, i am in particular love with whatever the f*ck is going on with the X-titles right now, but that is the exception, not the rule. Japan is different. Even the most blatant shill of a cash-in has a unique spin to it. When the moe boom happened and we were inundated with slice of life fodder for a decades, shows like Higurashi, Toradora, Haruhi, Lucky Star, and basically anything out of Kyoto animation, were absolute masterpieces. Each tells a distinct story, adapting that cutesy art style to their respective strengths, and it worked beautifully. The homogeneity of formulaic content here in the US, isn’t really a concern overseas and that is a wonderful thing. It makes for amazing storytelling and a creativity freedom, even when awash in trend or fad. I say all of this to preface the fact that Kajiya De Hajimeru Isekai Slow Life is chef kiss levels of shine, even if it is a manga staunchly entrenched in the grating isekai fad.
Now, i say “grating” in the glib sense because i genuinely love the isekai genre. I have for decades, going back to Escaflowne, El Hazard, .Hack, and Rayearth. What i think most people are frustrated with, is the OP protagonist in these stories. You can only identify with some, overwhelming, power fantasy, so many times going into these tales. How do you frame that narrative? how do you keep it compelling? You don’t. Entries like Overlord and Tensei Shitara Suraimu Datta Ken do a great job avoiding that stagnation by building out the world around their ridiculously plot-armored mains but that doesn’t work all of the time. If you want a character driven narrative, you have to build great characters. You have to make your principal cast affable, flawed, and fun. I think that’s the strength in Kajiya De Hajimeru Isekai Slow Life. You almost immediately fall in love with the cast you’re going to sped all of your time with and that’s absolutely necessary because this story is as much about the world building as it is about the main cast, themselves.
Slow Life follows Eizo Tanya, who is hit by a truck in the process of saving a cat, who turned out to be an inter-dimensional god or something. Since the Kitty deity f*cked up and was almost “killed’, causing Eizo’s death in turn, it offers to reincarnate him into a brand new world with a mad overpowered cheat skill. Eizo gives it a thought and chooses - blacksmithing! You see, Eizo was a salaryman, bitterly unhappy with his life in the old times. He wanted, more than anything, to be able to work with his hands in the new world so, instead of asking for he power to be a Hero or some vicious Demon Lord, he just wanted the ability to make dope sh*t in the woods. Kitty Deity is a little surprised but grants Eizo his wish and, boom! We have the foundation for a pretty delightful romp. Stuff happens, Eizo gets a tiger wife and a dwarf apprentice. His craftsmanship is the best in the world and his tale toward legendary status begins.
The simplicity of this narrative is one that has a level of accessibility not found in most isekai. The simple desire of a man, overworked and looking to be fulfilled, to find value, in what he does with his life, really resonates with cats like me who have been in the workforce for decades. I left my job a year ago to pursue my dream of crating so i identify with Eizo’s passion to be more than just a cg in a machine. More than that, i love the way he is written. Eizo feels real, like a proper person lost in a world of fantasy and magic. The supporting cast is also amazing and decently developed. I immediately fell in love with tiger waifu, Samia. She is capable, tenacious, curious, and f*cking adorable. There isn’t a ton of groundwork about her past being laid but i have a feeling we’ll definitely get into that as the narrative develops and i can’t wait to see where that leads. Newcomer to the story is the dwarf apprentice, Riku Moritz. We haven’t had a great deal of time with her so far, but she comes across as a studious, knowledgeable, junior who yearns to be the best at her craft. She reminds me of Miles Morales from Into the Spider-Verse, to Eizo’s Peter B. Parker and i adore that type of dynamic. We are only a handful of chapters in, but this story seems like it has legs and i look forward to where it goes in the future. I’d say it’s a slow burn, but it really isn’t.
I was hooked from chapter one and a lot of that, aside from the great writing and developing character work, stems from the artwork. My, goodness, is Slow Life gorgeous! There is a purposeful elegance to how these lines and strokes come together. The line work is clean and precise, granting each panel thjust the right amount of detail hile staying true to the artist's personal vision. It's actually very refreshing to see. The style is very distinct and carries it's own, unique hallmarks, similar to Toriyama or Oda, but slightly more relaistic than those. I am absolutely in love with it. Like, i follow a few trash rags because the art is dope and immediately hooked me. Isekai Meikyuu de Dorei Harem Wo, Gunbured X Sisters, or Kouya Ni Kemono Doukokusu immediately come to mind, all decent in their own right, but it’s very obvious the strength of these entries lies in the art. True to form, it took a while for me to get into their respective narratives and, in all honesty, they’ve gotten pretty good but those first few chapters were a bit rocky. The art kept me coming back and now, these three are some of my favorite titles to read. Slow Life did not have that issue. The art immediately took my breath away. It felt like cracking open Tsugumomo, BLEACH, Lv2 kara Cheat datta Moto Yuusha Kouho no Mattari Isekai Life, Gleipnir, Meikyuu Black Company, or Isekai De Skill Wo Kaitai Shitara Cheat Na Yome Ga Zoushoku Shimashita: Gainen Kousa No Structure. That’s a lot of titles but i am a slut for great, unique, artwork and these entries hit my sweet spot immediately. I’m just lucky that the narrative accompanying them was enough to do the linework justice because it would have been a shame to abandon these titles over sheer ugliness. Slow life definitely dodged that bullet. It is, without hyperbole, some of the best looking manga I've seen in years.
Kajiya De Hajimeru Isekai Slow Life is absolutely amazing. It’s an easy read filled with exceptional art, deft character work, and a world that is both compelling and growing steadily. Eizo is a great protagonist, easily to identify with and none of the edgelord OP, baggage most Isekai protags tend to have. Samia is a delightful love interests who carries a quiet strength and enjoyable naivety, which immediately endears and Riku is just plain hilarious. This laid back narrative of a smith who just wants to make dope sh*t, while being dope to his tiger wife and faithful apprentice is an distinct palate cleanser in a world of power fantasy saturated, isekai, trash. I love this book and feel like more people should have eyes on it so, you know, got put your eyes on it. You won’t be disappointed. Also, all the other titles i specifically mentioned. They’re worth a gander, too, especially Isekai De Skill Wo Kaitai Shitara Cheat Na Yome Ga Zoushoku Shimashita: Gainen Kousa No Structure and Lv2 kara Cheat datta Moto Yuusha Kouho no Mattari Isekai Life. Them sh*ts is just plain lovable and have two more of these objectively bias essays forthcoming. But that’s for later, for now, go read all of Kajiya De Hajimeru Isekai Slow Life, right now! Is totally worth! Plus, Samia is f*cking adorable, man. Seriously, tiger waifu is best girl!

Okay, first off, I know I said we would start where I left off in Corona, but I need to take a second to recognize something I forgot in Toy Box when rewriting the last post. Yozora.
Sora's "I never looked this good"
And Donald and Goofy like, "He looks kinda like Riku. Must be him."
And the Kingstagram post: "Yozora looks so much like Riku! I have GOT to play this game someday!"
Soriku bro😔👌
Okay, now back to Corona😂
So, where we left off, Gothel took Rapunzel back to the tower, and I'm skipping to Gothel's Rapunzel trap working on Flynn, and Flynn slowly dying
So, starting with Rapunzel, she starts off pretty confident, talking about how she'll run and run and run from Gothel forever, but in one moment, she becomes more submissive
If only she could just use her hair to save him.
Though obviously these are two different feelings going on, we're gonna start with this loose parallel of Rapunzel to Sora, who also in a single moment or from a single event, goes from confident to crying on his knees
If only Sora had his friends to give him the power to drive back the demon hurricane.
And of course, neither Flynn nor Riku will let it be this way. Flynn can't let her give up her dreams and her freedom to save him, and Riku just can't let Sora give up and believe he can't do anything.
["Sora, I believe in you. You won't give up."]
So, what do they do?
Flynn cuts off Rapunzel's hair, condemning himself to death, but saving Rapunzel's life (or at least, right to truly live)
Riku takes a shot at the demon tide, sacrificing himself in hopes of saving Sora's life.
In other words, they do a true love's sacrifice/act of true love
Quick intermission since here is where Gothel becomes the heartless and final boss. I still suck at this boss. It took me an hour or two to beat her. However, this is also when I started abusing shotlocks for the first time, so there's that. Abuse ultima shotlocks, cast magic, time your dodges, and hope whenever you attack you don't get attacked 😂
So, by the time Sora, Donald, and Goofy get up to the tower, I think we're supposed to presume Eugene is nearly dead, but Rapunzel is holding on, not wanting him to die
And of course, Sora desperately reaches for the light, calling for Riku. I guess you could say he's holding onto Riku.
["Riku! Riku, answer me!"]
Rapunzel sings her healing song that talks about reversing time, bringing back "what once was mine", changing "the fates' design, ect, and then her tear drops onto Eugene's face. And so, after both of them risked their own lives in acts of true love, both of them cheat the different deaths which would have been thrust upon them, changing fate's design
In similar fashion, due to what I believe to have been Kairi holding Sora's form together and Riku's act of true love saving Sora's heart, Sora too has cheated death (at least for now), and after reaching for the light, calling for Riku, and flying into it, he goes for Riku's heart first, saves all of his friends (minus Kairi till the light tunnel, though Sora doesn't save her) and not only reverses, but rewrites the destined events to happen in the timeline. I'd say it parallels Rapunzel's healing song, and even though he does save everyone and not just one person, there definitely is something to the fact that he specifically goes for Riku, specifically calls his name, and ends up wresting him from his fate first.
(Don't worry, bro, his heart'll be okay now)
Also, side note: During Rapunzel singing her healing song, she and Eugene confess that the other was their new dream and that just my heart
Bro, Eugene like, "Did I ever tell you... I've got a thing for brunettes?"
He really be the Riku parallel in this scene, don't he😏
Now of course, being me, I can't pass up the next parallel in this world
Sora: Well, if he comes back and tries to bother Rapunzel again, then Flynn will keep her safe.
Donald: Come on. Rapunzel's the tough one, if you ask me.
Flynn: True. But nevertheless, I won't let her out of my sight.
I mean, maybe it's just me, but it seems this parallels Riku wanting to have the strength to protect Sora, attaining that strength, but also being aware that Sora can take care of himself and has his own strength
And of course, this world is ended with a funny sex joke and Flynn getting stared down by Maximus and wet willied by pascal
Since here we're done with the worlds in the first area of gummi space and launched into the next, I'm gonna add that after every world I spend forever in gummi space farming meteorites and occasionally fighting the heartless and some boss battles, and every time I get launched into the next area of gummi space, I get all the treasure planets and the warp zone things too (apparently actual words evade me for both those things today). Legit though, farming meteorites is so helpful in getting synthesis materials you can use for upgrading your keyblades
So next was on to Monstropolis. I don't have much to talk about here.
Sora, Donald, and Goody freaking out over each other's monster forms? Hilarious.
Monster Sora? He will never not be adorable. Same with Boo
The big blue turtletoad unversed are annoying, and ngl, I had to dodge around a lot and play safe so I wouldn't die in like 2 hits.
Both the keyblade forms for Oathkeeper amd the form for Ultima on monster Sora are just so epic!!!
I still hate light rails with a passion.
Poor Sora so tired of dealing with computers thst when Goofy suggests smashing it, he's completely ready
Monstropolis: Randal nearly becomes leather wear before Vanitas saves him
The fact that Sora, Donald, and Goofy talked about Sora's weird kh1 smile and afterwards actually came up with a name for it. "Do the silly face special!" Also, when Monster Sora does it, it's definitely cute compared to the kh1 scene
The final boss unversed still sucked and took me plenty of tries, but I think I did better than my proud run.
YEETUS VANITAS
Ngl, I chanted YEETUS VANITAS cause I knew when it was coming
Poor Vanitas. He just need some love. From what I can tell in kh3, he's probably not hurting like he was in bbs and is less angry, and because there was a hole in his heart, he believed he had to join with Ventus to fill it even though their hearts have grown apart. Vanitas probably needs love to fill that hole
Poor Sora hurting and falling to the ground while Vanitas tells him that Ventus is in his heart
And last but definitely not least! Sora's Kingstagram post on the Vanitas scene where he learns that Ven is in his heart. And at the end of it, after talking about how apparently Ven is in his heart and stuff (I think) he's just like, "Would Riku know?" And the fact that Sora's included Riku in the Kingstagram posts means he was probably thinking about him and the fact he thinks Riku might know these things just... aaaaaaaa brooooo
And now onto Arendelle, home of many a Soriku parallel and where I did a lot of backtracking to save points

I just finished Fruits Basket Another and I have some Feelings, okay? Under the cut, because spoilers.
THE CHARACTERS
Hoooo boy let’s unpack here. Furubana is about Sawa Mitoma, a nervous first year in high school. She firmly believes that she’s basically human trash, and resolves to take up as little space in the world as possible, and that’s not even me paraphrasing. She says within the first few pages she wants to take up as little space as humanly possible. We find out that she’s the daughter of an extremely abusive mother - emotionally abusive. Sawa’s mother never hits her, but she’s also never once nice to her in any of her appearances. She isolates Sawa from any and all friends, she constantly drags Sawa down, and she’s rarely even at home, even back when Sawa was a little girl. How long has Sawa been looking after herself? Sawa is what Tohru could have become if Kyoko had been involved with a gang member rather than Katsuya.
The main trio of characters is rounded out by essentially the same trio as before: Mutsuki Sohma as the son of Yuki and Machi and Hajime Sohma as the son of Tohru and Kyo. Visually, they look nearly identical, which is why I chose that ^ picture. But they could not be more different. Sawa is every Sohma insecurity rolled into one, and the Sohmas are what their parents could have been without the curse and the constant abuse. Hajime is one of the oldest of the cousins, smothered with love and affection by his entire family, and is lovingly referred to as Dad and Papa (which annoys him), being one of the few in the family who cooks, cleans, or is, y’know, responsible. (Good job, Kyoru! Teach your boy right!) He is unwillingly elected student council president, and manages it easily. Unlike his father’s life, things come easily to Hajime, but he doesn’t let that make him conceited. He’s a down to earth character who trades biting remarks with Mutsuki. Mutsuki, on the other hand, I love. I adore. I want to erect a shrine to this boy. Poor Yuki, his wife hath birthed him a miniature Ayame. Mutsuki is trouble under a beautiful exterior, subtle snark and gentle teasing, but over the top in other aspects (like his thing that was once a desk and complete inability to do the most basic of tasks like buy laundry detergent, his utter willingness to let other people do things for him). He is also a deeply caring individual, and has an extremely close relationship with his cousin Shiki which is the complete opposite of his father’s relationship with Shiki’s mother that I nearly cried right there while reading volume three.
Kinu Sohma is the daughter of Hatori and Mayuko (a pairing of which I am not fond), and I actually was not fond of her until volume three, at which point she became a treat. A college student, Kinu seems to have no real ambitions or life goals (much like many college freshmen), spends much of her time sleeping, and only really sweeps in at the last chapter to comfort a very distressed Sawa in the way only a fellow woman can, delivering a wonderful speech right up with Kyoko’s Words Of Wisdom about how no one has the right to treat you badly, even your own family. No one has the right to abuse you, demean you, hurt you. That is a curse. She actually uses the word curse, and it makes me wonder what her parents told her of the Sohma curse, if Hatori ever mentioned how Akito used to be, or how Shigure was such a piece of shit about the seahorse, and it made me love Hatori all over again, for teaching his daughter such a powerful thing. Volume three also gave wonderful interaction between Kinu and the entirely deranged (but perfectly appropriate) Hibika Sohma, the daughter of Ayame and Mine. Just like Hatori is the only one who has any sort of control over Ayame, Kinu is the only one who can reign in Hibika. I believe these two are the oldest, out of all of the cousins, because in volume two, Hibika just fucking jets off to Paris with no warning, at the top of one of her tiny tophats instead of setting up her parents’ second store, because she needed inspiration to create new dresses. I don’t think a high school student could do that. Hibika may possibly be the oldest (Kinu is still a minor at 19 [Japan’s age of adulthood is 20]), because I don’t think a minor could do that either. She’s obsessed with Sawa and playing dress up with her, something Kinu is able to reign her away from doing with ease. She’s only the tiniest bit toned down from Ayame. I love her.
Michi Manabe is the daughter of Kakeru and Komaki and is sometimes at odds with Hajime. My biggest complaint with Furubana is that she is not in it enough!! Despite not being a Sohma proper, Michi is included in nearly all Sohma activities and all the Sohma cousins know her. She and Mutsuki were raised as siblings and address each other as such, which is precious because awww, but also because Kakeru has a deep sibling bond with his half sister as an adult, Komaki (who I view as another Tohru in a way, from how she was introduced) made an effort to keep Yuki and Machi in their lives and comfortable, and Yuki and Machi both created a family unit with the one family member who wanted Machi around, a bond so strong that their children saw each other so much growing up that they refer to each other as siblings. How precious is that?? Poor Hajime is probably the only voice of reason Mutsuki ever had in his life because you know Michi is to Mutsuki what Kakeru would be to Ayame. God I need a Kakeru-meets-Ayame-centric episode right now. Yuki would DIE. Riku Sohma is one half of the twin siblings born to Haru and Rin, and while he looks like Haru, this boy is a lot like his mother. He doesn’t have the anger issues his parents have, not really (except for instance of punching out Hibika’s brother), but he can be a bit spacey, he’s very serious and literal, and he likes to sleep. Everywhere. This family and their sleep. It kills me. He also gets himself a cute little girlfriend, and because of his crush on this girl and his watching of her, he notices her wanting to reach out to Sawa, and Sawa makes her first friend (mostly) on her own in nearly her entire life! On the other hand, Sora Sohma, his twin sister, is cute and spacey, a bit ditzy, and looks like their mother but is 100% Haru. She has nicknames for everyone in the family, and never calls anyone by their actual name. She’s my second favorite character after Hibika. Sora reminds me very much of Usagi Tsukino: instead of seeing a person, Sora sees a friend.
Poor Chizuru Sohma should’ve been Yuki’s kid. Honestly I’m surprised Ayame and Mine don’t have more kids, given how passionate I’m sure they are. And while Chizuru loves his father, he does declare the man crazy (as does every other character, minus Mutsuki, who says he’s “the most terrific of all uncles”) on more than one occasion. Chizuru is the more responsible of the Ayame/Mine Sohma children, setting up the Ayame II shop essentially on his own until Mutsuki offers Sawa’s help as a part timer (because remember, Hibika decided to go to Paris for the week). He hates that others view his family as eccentric and him as normal and especially hates when they comment on it, and he tends to be a bit foul-mouthed and outspoken. A bit like Hiro. Poor kid. Rio Mosca is Saki Hanajima’s boy and he is NOT KAZUMA’S SON AND THIS MAKES ME SO SAD. His parents’ love story is rather cute, however. His father is a foreigner (Italian, given that his surname is Mosca), and the two met on a plane, making this a cute little callback to when young Megumi prayed for a someone for Saki to “get on a plane and meet her.” Mina Sohma is the most precious baby and is the daughter of our boy Momiji! Although, look at her - could she be anyone else’s child? She is sweet and cute and seems to be without Momiji a lot - Momiji inherited his father’s business (which seems to be international?), and he travels all the time. Mina has a great talent for batting and rather than be privately tutored and follow her father all over the world, she stays behind in Japan to play baseball for her school. Her dream is to take over the family business from her father like he did from his. It seems Momiji’s terribly tragic story ended happily, as it seems he reconciled with his father enough to inherit his business... (more on this later). And then we have Shiki Sohma, who is surprisingly the son of Shigure and Akito! :O Shiki seems to inhabit two worlds, much like the Sohmas of Furuba. On the one hand, he is part of a generation who was raised by those healed by Tohru Honda. Loving, caring parents who love and adore their children. He has friends who care deeply for him - his best friends, despite all being in different grades, are Chizuru and Rio, and they all play Go together in the school club. His family are all deeply committed to him - Mutsuki especially is close to him, as seen in the first volume where Shiki was teased at but not seen, as Mutsuki called him to come to the house where he, Hajime, Kinu, and Sawa were having a hot pot with Michi, Riku, and Sora. His parents both are and aren’t the Shigure and Akito we know from Furuba - Shigure is still the immature jokester and Akito is still the serious head of the family, but they both love their son immensely, totally and completely in a way that Akito remembers being loved as a child by her father, in a way that Shigure’s parents probably loved him. On the other hand, in volume three, it is shown that, being the son of the head of the family, and living in the Sohma compound, with the old servants, the “old timers,” and Ren, subjects Shiki to some truly horrific abuse the likes of which no other second gen Sohma child has had to go through. Shiki would greet guests who would give him gifts, only to find that within those gifts were notes badmouthing his mother. Ren attempted to stab him as a small child, something the old Akito would and has attempted on the first gen Sohmas, and it’s implied the only reason was because Shiki was Akito’s child. Akito threw herself in front of Ren’s knife and took the blow for her boy. Shiki is a quiet and withdrawn child, one foot in each of these worlds, and seemingly paralyzed over how to act. Much like Sawa, especially once she meets the Sohmas.
Remember I said we’d come back to Momiji’s happy ending? See that woman in the top left? That’s Momo Sohma, Momiji’s sister. In Furubana, Momiji has reconciled not only with his father, but with his sister as well! Momo appears to pick up Momo from the Sohma house; she is Momiji’s assistant and Mina seems to stay with her sometimes when Momiji is out of the country. Momiji has his family back!!! Speaking of families, Hinata Sohma, Hiro’s little sister, is all grown up and makes her own appearance in the third volume (and is a slight alcoholic, lol). She also mentions brothers - did Hiro did another sibling after his curse broke?? Megumi Hanajima makes an appearance as a teacher at Kaibara High School, and this is my second complaint about Furubana - there is not enough Megumi!! He grew up sexy! Second best glow up in the series after Momiji! It’s Megumi who tells the romantic story of how Saki met her husband on the plane. Also making an appearance is Makoto Takei, former student council president, unwilling witness to Haru’s natural hair color explanation. He is now a teacher as well, and Sawa and Riku’s homeroom teacher. He’s also still in love with Yuki, and lets Mutsuki get away with anything. He is often at odds with Ruriko Kageyama, the daughter of Motoko Minagawa of the Prince Yuki Fan Club. Ruriko has inherited her mother’s obsession, though unlike Motoko and Makoto (god those two would’ve made a great obsessed couple), Ruriko loves ALL Sohmas. I don’t understand how the worship of an entire family to stalker levels is an official school club but whatever. Ruriko is actually pretty cool, and while she’s pretty strict, she’s also on somewhat friendly (like, “person I talk to at school but nowhere else” type friend) terms with Sawa.
THE STORY
I feel this can best be summed up in five sentences and in reverse: When Sawa was little, she fell down the stairs. She was found by Shiki, who simultaneously called an ambulance and fell in love with her. Her piece of shit mother sued Shiki because he was rich as shit. Ten years later, no Sohmas harbor any grudges against Sawa, her mother is still a piece of shit, the Sohma children are full of Tohru-and-Kyoko wisdom passed down from their parents, and try to help Sawa. And also they all hardcore ship Shiki/Sawa. The end.
No seriously, that’s the story. It’s beautiful. I wish there was one or two more volumes, a cameo featuring the adults, it would be perfect. Could you imagine the terrible awkward jokes Shigure would make? “Honey look, Shiki’s in love with the girl he pushed down the stairs as a kid. Was marrying her one of the terms of the lawsuit? Hahaha.” And Akito would just be like “....baby, you and Sawa go outside while I smack your father, you don’t need to see this.” And the two go outside and we then see Shigure fucking fly through the paper door and a loud “YOU FUCKING MORON” follow him out with the classic -_- “did I say something wrong?” Shigure face. And Shiki is just a fascinating color of ruby fire about the cheeks and mumbles, “so yeah... that’s my father....” and Sawa is a similar color and staring at her shoes like “he seems nice...” and Akito opens the ruined door as though she didn’t just beat the shit out of her husband and calls out to them, “come and have tea, your father had to step out for a bit. Sawa, dear, I’d love to hear more about you. would you prefer jasmine tea or green,” because Akito has done a complete 180 and become a decent human being since becoming a mother and Shiki is EVERYTHING to her and if her son loves this girl then GODDAMNIT SO DOES SHE.

Give/Take, a Kingdom Hearts fanfic, chapter 10
Ienzo has been too busy since the war to be overwhelmed by the past. But with little progress to be made in his work with Kairi, old nightmares start to invade.
Riku is a glorified housesitter. Lonely and faced with no choice but to wait for a way to find his friends, he eagerly accepts when Ienzo asks him to help do repairs around the castle. Before long, the two strike up an unlikely friendship, united by their dark pasts and their attempts to be better people.
But just as they begin to consider something more... Kairi wakes up.
Ienzoku (Ienzo/Riku), post-Melody of Memory, slow burn. Updates Thursdays until it's done.
Chapter summary: Ienzo arrives in Destiny Islands, and experiences quite a bit of culture shock.
Read it on FF.net/on AO3
---
It was raining in Radiant Garden when Riku arrived. He very nearly had trouble with visibility and the ship skidded a little when he touched down. He swore.
He'd offered his friends the opportunity to come along, on the one hand trying to get Sora interested in something, but he just said to "enjoy time with your boyfriend" with an eyebrow waggle.
He and Kairi had both been merciless, teasing him about it. Neither seemed that concerned he was dating someone who used to be Zexion. They both said Ienzo was a great guy. "Dating." They hadn't been on a date; he could fix that. They hadn't also called it that in so many words. Ienzo had, in his letter.
Riku's heart was racing. He checked himself one last time, making sure his hair looked alright in its ponytail.
Ienzo was waiting under an outcropping, a small duffle next to him. Riku dashed out of the rain as quickly as he could. “Beautiful day, isn’t it,” he said to Riku, and Riku noted that the subtleties of his tone had not carried over to the letters.
“Just perfect,” he said, feeling at a bit of loss for words. He was here, he could touch him.
There was a beat, a moment. Ienzo cleared his throat a little. “I’m not a mirage,” he said.
Riku chuckled. “Right.”
A bit awkwardly, Ienzo pulled him close. Riku got the notion that he didn’t hug much, and it probably didn’t feel natural to initiate. But it felt good, too good, to hold him, to breathe in his smell. He didn’t want to pull away, not yet. “It feels like ages, and yet an instant,” Ienzo said. “Let me look at you.” He pulled away and brushed his fingers across Riku’s cheek. “Your hair grows preternaturally fast.”
“Tell me about it,” he said. Riku realized for the first time that he was, in fact, now slightly taller than Ienzo.
Ienzo just stared at him as though he might disappear. Riku wondered if this time had been lonely, or difficult, for him. Ienzo cleared his throat a little. “Enough of the longing gazes for now, I think.”
“Right. Ah. But first.” He kissed him, and for a second they melted against each other. It felt exactly like Riku remembered. “Not sure I could’ve flown straight if I didn’t do that.”
“Well if it’s all in the guise of safety,” Ienzo said. “Do you need anything before we leave? Are you hungry?”
“I brought snacks,” he said. “Let me get your--” He picked up the bag.
“What a gentleman.”
They walked quickly through the rain back into the ship. “As many times as I’ve seen the inside of this on a video, I’ve never actually seen it,” Ienzo said. “It’s quite a lot smaller than I thought.”
“Yeah, no idea how the three of them managed,” Riku said. “You should see the size of the bunk rooms. But Sora’s a half-pint. You want to nose around a moment, go for it.”
“...I think I shall.”
Riku watched him poke around, looking into the tiny rooms, almost hitting his head on the door frames. His eyes were alight with curiosity. “These are so small,” he said.
“Sora always said they tried to avoid sleeping in it if they could.”
“I don’t blame them.” He turned back. “Well. Thanks for that. Should I just--”
“Sit wherever,” he said. “You only really need the straps for takeoff. It’s really safe.”
“...Quite.” He sat to Riku’s right and did up his harness. “Here we go, then.”
He smirked. “You nervous?”
“No,” he said. “But consider I’ve never much been off the ground.”
“It’s okay. I won’t kill us.”
“How reassuring.”
The takeoffs and the landings were always Riku’s favorite part, partially because it required the most input from him. Seeing the worlds disappear beneath him, and feeling the g-forces, was always a bit of a thrill. He tried to do so as gently as possible, keenly aware that as a first time flyer part of Ienzo’s calm was staged. He had his hands clenched very tightly in his lap. But once they were actually in the quiet of space, this seemed to disappear. “Is that really it?” Ienzo asked softly, gazing down at the world.
“Cool, isn’t it?”
“This is bizarre. It’s so… small.” He pressed his hand gently against the windshield. “Huh.”
Riku let him have the moment. “You’ll see more as we go along,” he said. “But it’s mostly a lot of rubble.”
“From the Fracture, I’m sure.”
“Could be.” He turned away and set the course. “We’ve got a good few hours before we get there.”
Ienzo undid the straps and settled more comfortably. “Is it very hard, to fly?”
Riku laughed. “No,” he said, and to demonstrate he lifted his hands from the controls, seeing Ienzo pale. “Aside from takeoffs and landings it pretty much flies itself. All of the positioning gummies. You wanna try?”
Riku could see him debating it. “Maybe on the way back.”
“All I have to do is keep an eye on the radar. If we’re lucky we might see some Heartless ships, but they’re generally getting rarer and rarer.”
“Do you fight them?”
“Yeah. There’s lasers, and a shield, the whole nine. Sora has it tricked out pretty good. Most of them are weak, anyway.”
Ienzo leaned over a little more to see the dash.
“There are other ways to travel around, but this is the most comfortable,” Riku said. “Using the lanes between… it’s like a motorcycle versus a car.”
“I’m going to pretend I’ve experienced either of those things.”
Riku chuckled. “Right. Well, you’ll see some of that on DI.”
He was quiet for a moment. “This is one of the first times I’ve physically travelled anywhere,” he said. “Whenever I… went to other worlds, I just… used a dark corridor. All it took was a few steps.”
“Do you miss it?”
“Travelling? Yes. Darkness? No. Always a stink that’s hard to get rid of.” He wrinkled his nose. “I haven’t been anywhere since I’m human again. ...And that’s nearly two years.”
“...I can’t exactly say the same.”
They chatted for a while longer, about nothing much, mostly about Riku’s new life back home. He was more excited than he thought to show Ienzo around, to give him a taste of normalcy as well. “Though it’s going to be a whole lot hotter than you’re used to,” he said. “Like, don’t be shy to tell me it’s too much. We can go back into the AC.”
Ienzo laughed. “It’s a good thing I like you.”
Riku felt his face flush. He tried to come up with something witty to say quickly. “...You said you had to tell your friends something to leave.”
“Yes. Well.” Ienzo leaned back and crossed his legs. “In their minds, one must always have a reason to go somewhere. Leisure isn’t exactly in their codebook. I said I wanted to check in with Sora and Kairi, make sure everything was alright, learn what I could about your journey. Ansem already knew, and asked if I would be visiting you, too. It was only a hop-skip-and-jump before the others figured it out. It… shocked them that I’d even wanted to pursue a relationship of any kind.”
“Why? You’re grown up.”
“To a degree they’re used to who I was , not who I am.”
Riku frowned and checked the radar. “I know how that is.”
Ienzo smiled. “I know you do. Does it bother you that I said something?”
“No. Not at all. Sora and Kairi have been teasing me about it. They think it’s hilarious. I’ve never really… shown that I had a crush on someone.”
“You have a crush on me? How sweet.”
“I’ve literally kissed you.”
The rest of the flight went smoothly, and Riku saw the familiar blue sphere emerge. “Ah, there it is,” he said. “Look.”
“How pretty.” He was already strapping himself in.
“We’re landing down on the play island. It’s basically the only inconspicuous place I can keep this thing. But it’s not far from there. And we’re a good few hours ahead of you for time, I think.”
“I see.”
His friends had helped him build the makeshift landing pad. The earth of it was different than the rest of the island, and they were on the far side where the ship couldn’t easily be seen from the mainland. The touchdown was easy. “Here we are.”
“I guess so,” Ienzo murmured.
“Ready?”
“Quite.”
He took Ienzo’s bag, and they started walking.
“You said this was a play island?”
“Oh, yeah. When we were kids we spent hours and hours here. Now we hang out here.” He pointed out the main landmarks; the shack, the waterfall, the treehouses. “It’s… a good place to come if you need to be alone. Lots of nooks and crannies.”
“I’ll keep that in mind.”
“We’ll take my boat back to the mainland. From there it’s about half a mile walk.”
“A mile?”
“Right… uh…” He struggled to remember metrics. “Almost a kilometer. About ten minutes, fifteen if people stop us. Which they might. Sorry in advance.” He helped Ienzo down into the rowboat.
“Stop us?”
“Well, it’s a small island,” he said. “Everyone knows everyone, and everyone’s been chatting me up since I got back. A new face is gonna be interesting to them.” He started rowing. The surf was nice and gentle today, making it easy. He noticed Ienzo’s eyes flick to his arms and felt a flush of pride. “We’ll be staying with my parents.”
“Oh, I don’t mean to impose, I brought money for an inn--”
“Ienzo, no,” Riku said, with a small laugh. “You even bringing that up is gonna seem rude to my mom.”
“Oh… is that cultural?”
“I guess so?” He shrugged. “She loves entertaining, too. Besides, you might decide you want to stay longer than the amount of money you have.”
“I see--I didn’t even bring a hostess gift--”
“It’s alright,” Riku said. “That doesn’t matter here either. People like to host. They don’t expect you to do anything other than have a good time.”
He looked a bit embarrassed.
“Relax,” Riku said. “It’s going to be fine.” They were at the dock at last. He docked and helped Ienzo back out, taking his bag from him. The sun was starting to set now, casting the shore in pinks and reds.
“Oh…” Ienzo said. “That is lovely.”
“It kinda is,” Riku said. He rested a hand on Ienzo’s waist, and though he jerked a little at the touch, he leaned into it. “You know, I’ve seen a lot of sunsets here. But they’re always something.”
Ienzo nodded. After a few minutes, they headed up the shore to the road. They were standing close enough that their shoulders nearly touched, and Riku’s heart was beating hard. He wanted to touch him. He needed to. He reached out, groping for Ienzo’s hand, found it at last. Again, he jumped a little.
“I’m sorry--”
“No, I’m just not… used to it,” Ienzo said, squeezing his hand gently.
It was nice , walking up the road hand-in-hand like this. With my boyfriend, Riku thought. The streets were emptier at this hour than he thought, but then he remembered. “Oh, right, there’s a game going on.”
“A game?”
“Blitzball. On TV. I think it’s the playoffs. Well, better for us.”
“What is blitzball and what is TV,” Ienzo asked, not humorlessly.
Riku sighed and explained.
“Oh, almost like volleyball,” Ienzo said, with no explanation of what this was. “Though this TV intrigues me.”
“Well, I have one in my room, so we can watch later if you feel up to it.” If his parents didn’t chat them up until dawn.
They turned onto his street. The houses were fairly close together, with small patches of lawn. Ienzo looked around at it all, his eyes wide, curious. His eyebrows shot up when a car drove past them.
“That’s a car,” Riku said. “We use them to get around on land.”
“Fascinating. I’ve seen them on other worlds, but this looks different. How does it work?”
“Um…” He struggled to remember. “Well, they’re solar powered, so the sun charges the batteries, and the batteries… help make the engine go.” He laughed a little. “I don’t know anything about engines.”
“Do you know how to drive?”
“No. I don’t really need to. Almost everything is within walking distance, and if it isn’t, you can take the bus. Er. It’s a car that has room for lots of people, and takes them along a route.”
“Like a streetcar,” Ienzo said. “Radiant Garden used to have those.” He sighed. “I knew our worlds were different, but I didn’t realize… how much. I’m already sweating.”
“And this is night,” Riku said. “Wait til tomorrow.” He took his house keys out of his pocket. He could use the Keyblade, but that seemed weird, and extra. “This one.” The house looked like any on the street; a simple two-storey, three bedroom, with a small offshoot over the garage. The siding was a bright teal, and his mother’s well-groomed strelitzias were in full bloom.
“It’s cute,” Ienzo said. “Cozy.”
“I’ll give you “cozy.”” He laughed. “Alright. Prepare yourself.”
Ienzo sighed.
He put his key in the lock. Predictably, the door flew open before he could even twitch them. “Welcome home!” His mother said. “So glad you made it back in one piece.” She gave Riku a painfully tight hug. “You must be Ienzo. Oh, hello, dear, welcome to the islands.” Before Riku could stop her she’d swept him into a hug, too, and Riku saw the brief spasm of panic. “Sorry, I’m a hugger.”
Ienzo coughed a little. “Ah. Hello. Pleasure to meet you.”
“We’re so happy to have any friend of Riku’s.” She’d finally let go of him but was holding his hands tightly. “Dinner’s almost ready. You two must be starving after your long trip.”
“Sounds lovely,” Ienzo said dazedly. “Thanks so much.”
She waved her hand dismissively. “ Matsu! Your son’s back!”
“Watching the game?” Riku asked.
“ Glued. All afternoon.” She rolled her eyes. “Why don’t you two get settled and I’ll call you when it’s ready?”
A tall, slender man--Riku’s father--came out of the room. He had a well-groomed mustache, his hair close cropped to his scalp. “Smooth ride?” he asked.
“Went off without a hitch,” Riku said. “Dad, this is Ienzo. Ienzo, this is my dad, Matsuda.”
“Nice to meet you, sir,” Ienzo said, offering his hand. Riku saw how hard and how firm his father took it and winced.
“You know when Riku said you were from another world I was imagining a little green guy, but you look pretty normal,” he said.
“Dad,” Riku said. “I told you about the One Sky thing.”
Ienzo laughed politely, a little stiffly. “I’m very much human.”
“Well I think that’s good. Can I get you something to drink? We have it all.”
“...Drink?”
“He means alcohol,” Riku said, rolling his eyes. “Dad, don’t make Ienzo drink if he doesn’t want to.”
“Er…” Ienzo clearly wasn’t sure what the right answer was.
“You know what, I’ll get you two a cassis.” He disappeared into the den, where the liquor was.
“You okay?” Riku asked. “I’m sorry they both grabbed you like that. We’re… feelers, here.”
Ienzo shook his head. “I’m sorry, this is all new to me.”
“It’s okay. I think they both understand. They’re just trying to be friendly.” Riku kicked himself both for not preparing Ienzo better and for not telling his parents to chill.
Matsuda came back a minute later with two highballs of cassis orange. “Be careful with these,” he said, with a wink.
“Dad,” Riku said.
“Alright, alright, I’ll let you two get settled.”
Riku bobbed his head towards the garage door. “We’re up through here.”
“Does this have something to do with that long story?”
He sighed. “Yes.”
---
Ienzo followed Riku up a set of stairs to another door, which Riku unlocked. The drink was cold in his hand, and felt awkward to carry up. “Here we go,” he said.
It looked to be more of a studio apartment than a bedroom. There was an alcove opposite the door, which was just wide enough for a double bed. The alcove had a large window which faced the sea. Next to it was a tall dresser with a lamp. To Ienzo’s right was a small kitchenette, with a minifridge, a hot plate, a coffee maker, and a toaster oven. On the left was a sofa, which had been made up neatly with sheets and a few pillows. Near it was what looked to be a computer screen on a small stand, powered off, but with no accompanying console. The walls were a plain gray, and unadorned, and there were a few boxes labeled “RIKU--SAVE” shoved in one corner. The dark hardwood floors were clearly beautiful, but needed a good refinish. Everything smelled very clean, though there wasn’t anything that said anything about Riku as a person. “You have your own apartment,” Ienzo said.
“Ah--yeah, sort of.” Riku set down the duffle next to the couch. “I… used to have a bedroom in the main house, but then I disappeared, and my parents… went to grief counseling.” He turned red and couldn’t meet Ienzo’s eyes. “They were told it would help if they packed away my things, and they sold my furniture. They would’ve remade my room downstairs, but dad works from home now, so he kind of needs it as an office.” He cleared his throat. “This used to be my grandma’s apartment before she passed. They didn’t have the heart to rent it out, or anything.”
“Oh,” Ienzo said, very quietly.
“I like it, though,” he said. “Being close to them, but not too close. Having a sliver of independence.”
“I can see that.”
“We used to have an air mattress, but mice got to it. I hope the couch will be okay until we can get a new one.”
“I’m sure it’ll be fine.” It was cooler in here, but not cool enough. Ienzo didn’t anticipate sleeping well anyway. He was still a bit shaky. He took a sip of the drink, found it went down easily.
“You don’t have to drink that,” Riku said.
“It’s tasty.”
He smiled a little. “He meant what he said when he said to be careful. He makes drinks strong.”
“Your parents. Do they know about us?”
“Yeah, I’m out,” Riku said. “Mom probably just didn’t want to push it.”
“And they’re okay with… us staying in the same room?” It made him blush just thinking about it, even if this was in the most innocent sense of the word.
Riku blushed too. “I know I said they’re suffocating me, but when I’m up here they try to give me privacy,” he said. “I don’t think they, uh, care what I do so long as I’m happy. And here. I’m an adult, after all.”
“Right. Understood.” Ienzo drank down more of the cocktail, partially because he was thirsty.
“...I hope you’re hungry. Mom cooks a lot , and I’m sure she’ll use you as an excuse to pull out all the stops. Show you islander cuisine and all that.”
He smiled a little. “Sounds lovely.”
A few moments later they were summoned. Riku’s house was similarly styled in bright colors, with a full living room. There was a shelf full of photos of Riku, and Ienzo couldn’t help his curiosity. “Oh, god, don’t,” Riku said quickly.
Ienzo smirked. “Look at you. Was this when you were a baby ? Look how fat your cheeks were.”
He turned redder than the drink in his hand. “I think she put these out specifically because you were coming.”
“I think it’s sweet.” He reached out and touched the frame in question. He felt a sudden stab of melancholy and wondered if there were any photos of him when he were little, if he’d have had this type of life if his parents hadn’t passed--
“Boys? Dinner’s ready.” Riku’s mother was slender and very beautiful; he looked more like her than his father. She brushed her hands off on her apron. Riku brought him through to the dining room.
The table was low to the ground, and there were no chairs, just small cushions. Most of the table was cluttered with lots and lots of small bowls of all sorts of things, some of which Ienzo could identify, some he couldn’t. He saw kimchi and poi, meats in some kind of sweet sauce, something that looked like dim sum. The mixture was eclectic but somehow it seemed to work, to make sense. And it all smelled delicious. He realized that, between the travel and being afraid to meet Riku’s parents, he was actually ravenous. “Oh no, you didn’t have to go to all this trouble for me,” Ienzo said.
“It was no trouble at all, dear,” she said.
“Mariko loves to cook,” his father said. “Besides, we’ll eat on it for the week.”
“Go ahead. Sit down.”
Ienzo did. It felt a little odd to be so low to the ground. “So you sort of take a little of what you want and use the same plate,” Riku told him.
There was also a pitcher of something pink that was passed around that he was also told was mildly alcoholic. Ienzo waited for the others to serve themselves before quickly taking at least a bite of everything onto his plate. But nobody ate. Instead, Riku’s mother and father both offered him one of their hands.
“They like to say a prayer first,” Riku said, a little embarrassed.
“Oh,” Ienzo said. “Sorry.”
Joined in an odd little circle, Matsuda bowed his head and the others followed, so Ienzo did too. “We’d like to give thanks to the gods for the meal we’re about to receive, and to give thanks for welcoming our son back safely home along with his new friend.” He said something in a language Ienzo could not understand, and Riku and Mariko both repeated it. “Alright, let’s eat.”
Everything was delicious and so interesting , not quite like anything he’d had before. He tried to remember the manners he’d been taught when he was young, but he noticed that all of them were even eating some of the dishes with their hands. “Everything is just wonderful,” he said. “I can’t thank you enough.”
“Aren’t you sweet,” Mariko said.
“...I like to pretend I’m something of a cook myself. Will you tell me a little bit about this?”
“Oh, don’t get her started,” Matsuda said.
Mariko told him all about islander cuisine and how it was prepared, down to the use of marinades, where their things were sourced, and on and on. Ienzo found it fascinating and wished he could write it down. “I’d be happy to share some of the recipes with you. Not all of it, though. Some of it’s secret.” She winked.
Ienzo wanted to keep eating, but he was already getting full and he’d been warned there was dessert. “I see.”
“What is it like where you’re from?” Matsuda asked.
“Riku’s kept it very hush-hush. Very mysterious,” Mariko said, approvingly.
“Oh… well, Radiant Garden isn’t all that special,” he said, thinking of how overwhelmed he’d felt on the island streets. Perhaps they would feel the same if they ever came to visit.
“Must be special enough if our boy’s going out of his way to see you,” his father said, though his tone was teasing.
“Matsu,” Mariko said. “Don’t embarrass the boy.”
Riku rolled his eyes a little. “Well,” Ienzo said. “For one, it’s quite a lot cooler there.” He told them a little bit about what the weather was like, about how the town was. He tried to not mention that Ansem had once been king, just that he was a scientist in the castle and that Ienzo had grown up there.
“A castle ,” Matsuda said, whistling. “Fancy.”
“Ah--not quite. Our world fell to darkness, quite like yours. So bits of it are in disrepair.” He didn’t mention Riku’s assistance there, not sure of the situation with his parents. “Coming here and seeing all these family homes has been quite refreshing.”
“So what is it you do?” Matsuda asked. “Do you go to school? Or work?”
Ienzo swallowed and took a sip of the pink drink. He drank so rarely that he feared he was a bit tipsy. “I’m a scientist, and a researcher,” he said slowly. “My main project lately has been restoration of the library’s collections.” A glamorous phrase for what he was actually doing.
“What is it you study?”
He blinked. “Well, historically, hearts. The metaphysical hearts in us all. But I’ve studied a fair share of lots of fields along the way.”
“Hearts. How romantic,” Mariko said.
“Ienzo’s work was actually instrumental in helping Kairi and I find Sora,” Riku said.
“I wouldn’t go that far,” he murmured.
“Oh, don’t be modest, you helped bring him back to us. For that, you’ll always be welcome here,” his mother said.
Ienzo blushed and looked back down at his plate.
“Are you boys ready for dessert?”
Hours later, more stuffed with food than Ienzo could comprehend, Riku gently pried them from the table. Both of his parents kept asking all sorts of questions about Radiant Garden, about Ienzo, about how they’d met (this caused quite an awkward moment). Riku just said they’d met when he was looking for Sora and only got to know each other later. Ienzo was a bit drunk and a bit dehydrated and definitely tired.
“Mari, we should let the poor boys sleep before you keep them up all night,” Riku’s father said at last.
“Please at least let me help with the dishes,” Ienzo said. He could only imagine what it must look like in the kitchen with all this food.
“I absolutely will not,” Mariko said. “You’re a guest, and you’re exhausted. Go on, get settled. Get. ”
“Thank you,” he said softly, and followed Riku back to the apartment.
The room was mostly dark; Riku flicked on the lamp. “How are you holding up?”
“So full I could burst,” Ienzo said. “But that was… lovely.”
“I’m sorry if they made you uncomfortable.”
“No, they didn’t. Not really. I’m…” How to put this without sounding pathetic. “I’ve never really… seen or taken part in such normal life.”
“No?”
“I was raised by five scientists in a lab. Sitting and having such an extensive home cooked meal was not a common occurrence.” He offered a smile. “Nor were either of the castles so homey.”
“Oh…”
“Don’t pity me,” Ienzo said gently. “That is just to say this all feels a bit foreign. You must be exhausted. You had a much longer day than I did.”
“The carbs don’t help,” he said.
“Is there… perhaps… some place I can shower?”
“Right--oh, of course, the bathroom’s through there. Do you need anything?”
“...Just a towel.” He dug into his duffle for his toiletries and pajamas.
Riku handed him one from a cabinet. “You can hang it on the door when you’re done.”
“...Thanks.”
After a cold, cold shower Ienzo felt a bit better. Riku had already changed and was sitting on his bed, braiding his hair. “If I don’t sleep with it like this it ends up a mess of knots.”
“...I see.” He identified the strangeness he was feeling--the odd intimacy of sleeping in someone else’s house, seeing them getting ready for something as mundane as bed.
“You wanna watch some TV?”
“I really am exhausted,” he said. “Maybe tomorrow?” Perhaps by then he’d feel curious.
He smiled. “Sure. Of course. Let me… let me know if you need any more pillows or blankets.”
“I sincerely think I won’t need more blankets,” Ienzo said. He sat down on the made-up soda. It was actually quite comfortable.
“Good night, Ienzo.”
“Good night, Riku.”
The light clicked off.

*Integrity- Overwhelmed with her responsibilities, guilt, and drama, Marinette has an emotional breakdown in front of everyone, and even hands over her earrings in a moment of weakness. Only for a few seconds, but the damage was done. Adrien’s pretty quick on the uptake like that.
~Much Obliged- Everyone deals with grief differently. Some take to drinking, others devote themselves to charity. Adrien Agreste? Well, he became a cowboy. Marinette Dupain-Cheng is a witch, one of very few in the world. She knows what it's like to be doubted, and assumed delusional. Maybe that's why they got along so well. Or maybe it's just because they both like big hats. AU where everything is the same, except instead of superheroes, Adrien is a Cowboy and Marinette is a witch. (Unfinished) (Based on a AU by @bugaboo-n-bananoir)
I'll Handle This- “I’ll solve all your problems,” Plagg had said. “You just have to agree to it.” A fixed relationship with his father, Lila to stop bothering him, and Ladybug to fall in love with him? I've noticed there are at least 15 main installments of Final Fantasy, but the only ones I see people mention are Final Fantasy 7, 8, 10, and 15. Is there a reason the other game aren't as popular?
Buckle in, honey. Because I’m probably going to go overboard with this. I’m sorry. But it’s the best I can think of to explain it all.
So… full disclosure. I have not played I-VI. All I know about them is from the Dissidia games–where the main characters of those games show up and talk about their games some–and what I’ve read on Wikipedia. I also know a bit more about VI because of cultural osmosis, as that’s one of the more popular Final Fantasy games (and I have watched a teeny bit of VI online). And one day, I do hope to go back and play them all. But any information I get wrong about those ones–though I hopefully won’t–is because of this. And I apologize for it in advance.
Also, you should know that the Final Fantasy fandom is very vocal. And since every game pretty much reinvents the wheel–and everyone has a different game where they started and that is their favorite–everyone has their own idea about what a Final Fantasy “is” and “should be”. And if they get a Final Fantasy game that doesn’t meet that criteria for them, they usually hate it–and will tell anyone and everyone–and think that it “doesn’t feel like a true Final Fantasy”… Like, for years now… pretty much with any new game since X, or maybe even back as far as IX, people hate on it for years… only to years later realize that maybe it wasn’t “so bad, after all, because really the new thing is that bad”. Rinse and repeat.
Okay, so a little history here: Sakaguchi is the father of Final Fantasy, and was involved with I-X (though not as much on X, because I believe he was also working on the “Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within” movie at the time. More on that in a minute), back when the company was “Squaresoft” and not “Square Enix”. Around the time they were making X, Sakaguchi decided to try and make a fully 3D Final Fantasy movie–and to release it in theaters (The Spirits Within)–and that movie bombed hard. It’s actually one of the biggest financial failures in cinema history, sadly. And Squaresoft would have gone under because of it, if rival company Enix–mainly known for the Dragon Quest series–hadn’t agreed to merge with Squaresoft, thus turning the company into “Square Enix” as we know it today. And even though it wasn’t all his fault (if any of it? Because surely there were bigger studio heads who okayed everything and maybe even pushed for it themselves), Sakaguchi ended up having to take the wrap for the whole Spirits Within disaster and left the company, if I recall correctly, but really he had to leave, I think. I’m sure he was really fired, under the corporate niceties and stage show.
But you definitely have your purists, who only like I-X (or sometimes only I-IX) and think that Final Fantasy died when Squaresoft became Square Enix and when Sakaguchi left the company.
Speaking of which, I-VI, Final Fantasy VI is an extremely popular game. And that might actually be most people’s favorite after VII (some even like it more than VII). And people are clamoring for a remake for it, too. Like, the heroine Terra is an amazing character who goes through more than any other Final Fantasy heroine, apparently (as she was used as a weapon–as she’s super powerful–by the games’ villain for most of her life until she finally rises up against him). And she’s also the first technical female lead in a Final Fantasy game. People also love the villain, Kefka (and if you go on “What Final Fantasy Bosses do You Want in Kingdom Hearts?” threads, he’s always the one who gets the most votes), who’s this pure evil clown, who loves being bad and just wants to watch the world burn. The Joker, essentially. And he’s the only Final Fantasy villain to succeed: he actually does destroy the world, and you’re then playing in a post-apocalyptic place for half of the game. The character Celes even tries to kill herself over this… I think people like this game because it’s super dark (though not without light moments and humorous things, of course) like VII is.
Final Fantasy IV is also well-loved, but I don’t know enough to rank it in people’s eyes. I through III were pretty bare bones, it seems like (maybe moreso I and II) and with black and white morality. IV was the first game to go away from that, somewhat. As your main character, Cecil, who starts the game as a paladin turns into a dark knight(?). And while at first he’s despairing about this, he then realizes he can still be a hero and use his powers for good? And people adore the Cecil/Rosa ship, that perhaps started there being Final Fantasy romances. This is also a tragic tale about two brothers pitted against each other… There’s also the character Kain, that Riku’s character is probably based on and ideas from this game in general? Or maybe it’s Cecil that Riku’s based on. I forget.
VII is probably, hands-down, the most popular Final Fantasy game (though sometimes the people who love VI–and even IX–can really debate with the VII people. So they’re probably close to being tied). And I think this is because VII was the first to do a lot of things: The first to use 3D graphics (that were something to behold at the time), the first to be on Playstation, the first one that really got people in America interested in Final Fantasy and RPGs in general (largely because of the commercial for it, I’m told? That made people go “What?! There can be an actual story in a video game?! Let’s check this out!”), and certainly because of the Aerith thing. Aerith was not the first character to die in Final Fantasy. But since VII was a lot of people’s first FF–and you couldn’t bring her back; and the developers made a conscious decision to keep it that way for many reasons–this really hit gamers. And is why Aerith’s death is probably the most iconic thing in video game history. The game also did a good job of making her mean everything to you and then feel her absence, since she was your best healer and no one could really take her place after that. This game meant a lot to Sakaguchi, because he wrote it after his mother died–as he was trying to understand life and death… and why it all happens the way it does, and to find some closure there–and I think that you can feel that in the game, which is why it’s so special to so many other people, too. If you’re interested, Super Eyepatch Wolf does a great job of explaining why Final Fantasy VII is such a big deal in this video. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9V68GCZ61Rc
I actually don’t hear that much about VIII anymore? I’m not sure it’s as big as a fan-favorite as it used to be, but I could be wrong.VIII is starting to turn into a black sheep of the franchise in some people’s eyes, it would seem. Mainly because the Junction battle system… is broken (though this was really no one’s fault. As I understand it, the designer behind it fell ill before the game came out and never got to finish it properly). And since some don’t like that this game is a romance between Squall and Rinoa more than anything else (some also don’t like Rinoa and think she’s a major damsel in distress in their opinion), and that Ultimecia is evil and wants time compression… for reasons? But to be fair, a lot of early Final Fantasy villains were evil just to be evil. And apparently this game is the anti-VII in some ways? As Sakaguchi or Kitase (I forget which one) said they got a lot of criticism about FFVII when it first released (which is weird to think of now, since now everyone sees FFVII as the greatest thing ever), so they decided to address those criticisms in VIII and made it the opposite of VII in many ways. But there are definitely many who are still all about VIII. Don’t get me wrong. And a lot of Kingdom Hearts fans, trying out FF for the first time, probably go to the ones with characters they know first (I know I did). So VIII is still probably touched for that reason, if not for many others as well. People still wonder if Cloud or Squall is stronger, etc. And for a while, VIII was my favorite. It’s not anymore, but it once was.
IX is the dark horse in this series that might actually win a lot of things. Most people who have played it seem to love IX–I know I do–though not everyone played it, because many were turned off by the cutesy art style at first (IX was sort of a return to basics, as it was a celebration of all the Final Fantasy games that came before it since this was the last Playstation 1 game). But this story’s a lot darker than some give it credit for… One of the darker ones, maybe. Most people who played IX actually list it as their favorite–in fact, IX was voted as the most popular FF game to Japan’s players recently–and many want this game remade, too. This is also Sakaguchi’s favorite in the series, and what he thinks Final Fantasy should be. And there’s just so much heart, fun, and love in this story (Zidane and Garnet might even be my favorite FF couple for how well they’re written). If Sakaghuchi had to leave the company, it’s probably at least nice that he left it on this note (because he was involved in X, but not as much as with this).
I think X is so popular, because this was also a “first” for many people. It was my first Final Fantasy game, in fact (and a lot of people’s in that generation). But it was the first for Playstation 2… the first with voice acting, the first where you could switch party members in battle, the first that had a direct sequel to it, etc. And many believe Tidus and Yuna is the best written romance in all of Final Fantasy, and there’s a good chance that it is. It also has one of the most tragic endings ever, that makes everyone sob when they get to it. Hey. But Final Fantasy X is just a great game, all-around (story, theme, and gameplay-wise. X, like VII, revolves around life and death and cycles). It really is. Though you still have people who hate it (as there are those who hate every single game), usually because they despise Tidus or just look at things like the laughing scene out of context. X might be my favorite Final Fantasy. A lot of the time, the first FF you played ends up being your favorite, though not always (I like it, IX, VII… and XIII and XV, God help me). Edit: And Yuna is everything good in this world. She’s always a favorite Final Fantasy heroine to everyone, for sure. And I think she actually is Japan’s favorite Final Fantasy heroine.
I can’t really talk about XI or XIV, as they’re MMOs and I don’t play those… so these are actually the FFs I know the least about, probably? But I know some think think they’re the best. Well, Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn, that is. The first version of XIV was a fucking disaster and had to be completely reworked.
Final Fantasy XII is dismissed a lot of the time (though there are those who think it’s the best example of transitioning FF to modern times, doing things that XIII and XV just didn’t think to do or even seem to think to do). Final Fantasy XII is very political, and I think that’s why it’s not talked about much: as there’s a good chance it just went over your head when you played it. I know it did for me, originally. There also really isn’t romance in it (at least not much, and you definitely see the slight romance that is there moreso in the sequel). But they definitely tried something new with this one, and if that paid off or not is up to you. But if you can understand it, the writing in this game is actually pretty genius. Final Fantasy XII was plagued with the issue that VIII had, though, where one of the key people behind it got sick at the time, so all of their ideas didn’t come to fruition. Like, originally Vaan and Penelo were supposed to be much more fleshed out than they were… that didn’t happen in FFXII itself, but did in its sequel “Revenant Wings” (which is so underrated, and the best sequel in all of FF, imo).
XIII… XIII is the black sheep of the franchise, for some reason. And I have no idea why. I loved this game and thought it was fine. More than fine, really. I swear this game wouldn’t be as hated as it is, if the Internet didn’t exist, tbh. But people despise it because it’s linear… when every Final Fantasy game before it was also linear? You were just tricked into thinking they weren’t. And sure XIII could have hidden its linearity better, but meh. People also aren’t big on there being no towns and side quests, even though story-wise it makes sense: you’re the enemy of the goddamn world, so of course you’re avoiding towns and people. People also think the game’s convoluted, but I think most FFs are. Look at FFVII, for goodness sake! And people just don’t like the characters, because they base it on how they are at the start of the game. And they’re all awful and hate each other at first, but that’s the point: because they all develop and grow into better characters, and are a family at the end of it. There are also those who despise the battle system… I’ve heard many say that if you look at this game as its own thing, it’s fantastic. But that if you look at it as a Final Fantasy game, it’s terrible… which I guess could make sense? But I also, personally, don’t see it that way? I guess I’ve just never been one of those “A Final Fantasy game has to be this way, and if it’s not then it’s not a Final Fantasy game to me and I hate it” kind of people. Because I know FF is always about reinventing itself, but whatever. But like with any Final Fantasy, there are also those who adore this one. There are always those who love one, and those who hate it. XIII was also littered with a lot of problems across development–like XV–and probably would have been even better than it was, if that hadn’t happened. Like, I think Nojima wrote the script for part of this game–or at least helped with it–but not all of it. And he’s credited for writing the scripts of most fan-favorite FF games. He also wrote the script for the end of KHI, all of KHII, and part of KHIII, apparently (many think that if Nojima came back for KH, that would fix things there, too–which I could see and maybe mostly agree with, but even he’s not perfect... He also wrote the script for Versus XIII, but not XV, which probably explains a lot. And he came back and wrote the script for FFVII again with the Remake, which is probably why it’s so great).
XV is the game that started its life as Final Fantasy Versus XIII–originally directed by Tetsuya Nomura–but soon after it became FFXV, Nomura was kicked off the project and Hajime Tabata became its new director. And Tabata, it would seem, made a lot of changes to the story (which is why Nomura’s so pissed off about it, and now trying to put his Versus XIII ideas into Kingdom Hearts). But it wasn’t really his fault. The company was breathing down his neck that this had to be the game that “saved Final Fantasy and console gaming in Japan”. And Versus XII was, apparently, the darkest game in the entire Final Fantasy franchise (and it was going to be rated “M”, as opposed to FF games usually being rated “T”), which is why it wasn’t a numbered title originally. So I can get why Tabata probably thought he had to change it to make it moreso appeal to the masses, or was probably even told to do so. I think FFXV is a good game. I do (as do many. XV was actually a lot of Nomura lovers’ first FF game, for obvious reasons). It’s still one of my favorites… for some reason. But the main issue with this game–especially at launch; it’s somewhat better now–is that it was not a complete story, and there were so many holes in it. And you can just tell that this story was rewritten again and again and again. And important plot things are just not told to the player… probably because the developers thought the player knew, because they surely had told them in earlier drafts. But I can still feel what this game was going for, and the heart of it, which is why I like it, I guess. It’s actually a pretty hot debate–of which game is better in people’s eyes: this one or XIII–and I can get both sides of the argument. I like both. And as I’ve said above… as there’s always a camp that loves and hates every Final Fantasy game, there are those who despise XV: for they see how messy its story was… or don’t like the gameplay (as it probably is the most removed from how FF games usually play) or the setting… and some even weren’t big on how dark this game still was, and didn’t think it felt like a FF to them for that reason.
Yep.
And if you actually got to this point, I thank you… and I’m also sorry for all of this.
Edit: I should also probably mention that originally, most Final Fantasy games had medieval settings (and for this reason, there are those who think all FF games should be this). But they sort of moved away from that with VII and VIII. And since VII is the majority’s favorite, there are those who are more than okay with FF not being medieval. So to keep both camps happy, these days you usually have a few games that are medieval (back to basics) and then a few that aren’t. Rinse and repeat. Since XIII and XV weren’t medieval, that probably means XVI will be. And if the “Agni’s Philosophy” trailers are secretly FFXVI, like some think, that definitely looks medieval. And there was maybe some FFXVI artwork leaked recently, that looks medieval. And many are thinking the director of Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn will be directing XVI–he’s said he’d be willing to do it–and I know he’s said he’d want to turn Final Fantasy to medieval, if he were to do a XVI. So, yeah…
Edit 2: And back to the “FF died when Squaresoft became Square Enix and Sakaguchi left the company” camp, another reason some feel this way is Uematsu. If I recall correctly, he composed all the music for I-IX–and I think did the “To Zanarkand” track for X–but I think he also left the company after IX. So his departure is another reason some think the series truly died then. -shrugs-
#and I think most people are just meh about I ii iii and iv. at least that I've seen#I mean I'm sure you'll find SOME who think they're the best ones. but most people don't seem to feel that way

The Lost Chapter 35
Warnings: same as the other ones
Rating: SFW
(A/N: this was my favorite scene from COM)
You and the trio left the Eleventh Floor entrance and entered the world of Twilight Town.
“Gawrsh... Where are we, guys?” Goofy asked.
“Hmm... I dunno... I've never been here,” you said.
“Same here,” Sora said.
“Me neither,” Donald said. Jiminy jumps down from Sora’s shoulder.
“That can't be right! Up 'til now, the only places we've been are from Sora's and (Y/N)’s memory,” he said.
“Maybe so, but I definitely don't remember this,” Sora said.
“You might have forgotten this town just like the other stuff,” you said.
“This is terrible. Our memories are practically gone,” Jiminy said. Donald and Goofy looked down in despair. You and Sora took out Naminé's good luck charm.
“We'll be okay. See, look at this...” you said.
“Naminé's good luck charm!” Goofy said.
“There's a special memory that goes with this. One night, when Naminé, (Y/N), and I were little, there was this meteor shower. Naminé started crying. She said, ‘What if a shooting star hits the islands?’ So I said, ‘If a shooting star comes this way, I'll hit it right back into outer space!’ I was swinging this toy sword around the whole time while (Y/N) was hugging Naminé. Naminé just smiled and said, ‘Thanks.’ And then she gave us this,” Sora said. An image of Naminé entered you and Sora's head. She began to talk.
“Sora, (Y/N), I'm so sorry. All this, because of me...” she said. The image faded away. You and Sora kept talking about the charm.
“Naminé said she had these ever since she was a baby,” you said.
“And she gave them to you two? Aww...” Donald said.
“Yeah. So we promised her... From now on, we'll bring you good luck. we'll keep you safe. But then one day, Naminé left the islands...and we forgot about her all this time. We really let her down...” Sora said.
~~~~
You, Sora, Donald, and Goofy came to the entrance to a mansion inside the town. Sora stopped and looked around.
“What's wrong?” Goofy asked.
“Something...feels really strange. I'm sure I don't know this place, but it's starting to feel like it's familiar to me...” Sora said.
“You must have come here sometime before,” you said.
“No, and that's what's strange...” Sora said.
“It could be like with Naminé. You forgot lots of other stuff---and that's why you remember this place now,” Goofy said.
“No... It's different. With Naminé---my memories...sort of came drifting back to me, a little piece at a time. But not now. It's not memories---just this idea that I must have been here before.”
“So, feeling nostalgic?” Vexen appeared and you all tensed up.
“Sora, (Y/N)...a question, then, for you... Your memories of Naminé or your feelings here---which of the two of these is more real, I wonder,” Vexen said.
“Naminé, of course! Whatever it is that we're feeling, I bet it's just another one of your mean little tricks!” you said. Vexen laughed.
“The memory's wiles can be cruel. In its silence, we forget. In its obsession, it binds our hearts,” he said.
“Cut the riddles!” Sora said.
“I told you--- This place was created solely from another side of your memory. It is on the other side of your heart that the memory of this place exists. It is your heart that remembers.”
“You're wrong! I don't know this place!” Sora said.
“If you remain bound by the chain of memories and refuse to believe what is truly found inside your heart... ...then throw it away. You are not a Keyblade master---just a slave to twisted memories. Yes... Exactly like my Riku.” Vexen summoned his shield.
“Your existences is worth nothing!” he said.
“Like YOUR Riku? Worth nothing?” you asked. You and Sora was overcome with anger.
“That's enough! YOU'RE the one who changed Riku! Every word you've said is a lie! I'd never throw away my heart!” Sora said.
“Neither will I!” you said. Sora summoned his keyblade and you grabbed your dagger.
“I'm gonna take you down and save Riku and Naminé. THAT'S what's in my heart!” Sora said. You and Sora fought Vexen. After the fight Vexen laid on the ground and panted in pain.
“Urrgh... You have such strength, even at the mercy of your memory---” Vexen groaned.
“None of that matters! Just put Riku back!” you said. Vexen laughed.
“Just put him back?” he asked as he got up.
“The Riku you speak of...has but one fate, to sink into the darkness--- and you will share that fate, Sora and (Y/N)! If you continue to seek the girl, Naminé, the shackles will tighten, you'll lose your hearts...and end up becoming Marluxia's pawn!” he said.
“Marluxia? What does Naminé have to do with---” Sora asked. Axel's chakram flew past you and Sora and struck Vexen. Axel was behind you and Sora. You and Sora turned around and gasped.
(Here comes the best part!)
“Axel!” you and Sora said.
“Yo, Sora, (Y/N). Did I catch you at a bad time?” Axel said. Vexen started to get up.
“Axel, why...?” he asked.
“I came to stop you from talking too much...by eliminating your existence,” Axel said.
“No... Don't do it!”
“We are just Nobodies who have no one to be, yet we still ‘are.’ But now you can be nothing instead of just being a Nobody. You're off the hook.”
“No... Please don't!” Vexen cowered.
“I don't want to---”
“Goodbye.” (I laugh at this every time! It’s so funny!) Axel snapped his fingers and Vexen was engulfed in flames. He then faded away into darkness. You and Sora watched in horror.
“What are you--- What ARE you people?!” Sora asked.
“Hm... Don't know. I wonder about that myself,” Axel said as he disappeared. You, Sora, and the gang left Twilight Town. Meanwhile, Larxene and Marluxia were in the Organization's meeting room. Axel appeared in the room.
“Nice work. I say good riddance to that blabbermouth,” Larxene said.
“Marluxia... You used Vexen to test Sora and (Y/N)'s strength, didn't you?” Axel asked.
“Not just Sora's. It was yours, too. We weren't sure if you actually had it in your bones to take out a fellow member.” Larxene walked over to Axel.
“Well, I guess that you did. It's time to join up. Taking over the Organization will be like child's play with the three of us,” she said.
“So that's where Sora and (Y/N) comes in,” Axel said.
“Of course. They want to see Naminé, so why don't we just give them what they want?” While Larxene was talking with Axel, Marluxia started talking with Naminé.
“Rejoice, Naminé. The time is near for you to meet the heroes that you've been longing for,” Marluxia said.
“I'm...glad,” Naminé said.
“But I'm warning you. You'd better not do anything to betray Sora and (Y/N)'s feelings. Do you understand me, little one?” Larxene said.
“I understand.”
“All you need do is layer Sora and (Y/N)'s memories, and bring their hearts closer to you. And remember, (Y/N) is a spirit who may have ties to our superior. She’s strong. Make her feel weak,” Marluxia said. Him and Larxene disappeared.
“Sora, (Y/N)... Even if you come for me---what then?” Naminé asked. You and Sora entered the Eleventh Floor Exit Hall. The two of you were greeted by Riku.
“Riku!” you and Sora said.
“You'll hurt Naminé if you go further,” Riku said.
“You still want to fight? But Vexen's gone, so now you're free!” you said.
“It doesn't matter what happens to him. I'm protecting Naminé from you two. That's what's in my heart. Sora, (Y/N), I made a promise to Naminé. I promised to... keep her safe.”
“You did?” Sora asked.
“There was a meteor shower...this one night when she and I were little... Naminé got scared and said, ‘What if a shooting star hits the islands?’ So I told her: ‘If a shooting star comes this way, I will protect you!’”
“You made a promise! With a toy sword! And hugged her!” you said.
“What... How do you know about that?”
“Because...that was the promise we made to her that night! We would protect her! We said it! And (Y/N) hugged her!” Sora said.
“Don't lie! You weren't the one there that night!”
“YOU're the one who wasn't there! That was when she gave her good luck charm to US!” you said.
“Her what?!” You and Sora took out the charms.
“See?” Sora asked. Riku gasped.
“Tell me... Where did you get that?” he asked. There was a small flash, and Riku held his head in pain.
“Sora, (Y/N)...good try,” he said.
“Huh?” you and Sora asked.
“That must be a fake. I've got the real one right here!” He took out a similar charm.
“Wha--- THREE of them?!” Sora asked.
“Fakes should be destroyed!” Riku said. You, Sora, and Riku broke out into a fight. After the battle, Riku panted.
“Riku...” you said. Riku ran away, leaving his good luck charm behind.
“Huh?” Sora asked. He picked up the charm and Donald and Goofy appeared.
“Isn't that Naminé's good luck charm?” Donald asked.
“It's just like ours,” you said.
“How'd he get this?” Sora asked. The charm glowed and gave off a strong light.
“Woah!” you all said. The charm turned into two cards of Destiny Islands.
“It turned into a card!” Goofy said. You and Sora walked toward the entrance to the next floor. Donald and Goofy stayed back, thinking about what's happened.
“Aww...I don't understand what's going on...” Donald said.
“Let's just keep moving, okay? It doesn't matter,” you said.
“It DOES matter. How can two of you have the same memory? You can't both be right.”
“I'm wrong? Fine, then don't believe me!” You felt your eye twitch in pain and held onto it.
“That's not what he meant. We're just kinda worried,” Goofy said.
“Then let's ask Naminé! That should clear it up. Look, we don't have time to sit around. So let's GO,” Sora said. Donald and Goofy exchanged looks.
“Sora, (Y/N), what happened to ya?” Goofy asked.
“What's THAT mean?” you and Sora asked.
“Well, ya always get real touchy when it comes to stuff about Naminé... But before we came to this castle, you two didn't even remember what her name was.”
“Now Naminé is the only thing you two talk about,” Donald said.
“It doesn't make sense. Maybe you two should just slow down and think ahead about some of these things.”
“Think ahead? What is the matter with you guys? Do you want me to abandon her?!” you asked.
“No, that's not it---” Donald said.
“Then do whatever you want! You can lay back and take a nap for all I care! WE’RE going to find Naminé!” Sora said. You and Sora ran ahead into the next floor, leaving Donald and Goofy behind.
“Sora! (Y/N)!” Donald and Goofy said. They looked at each other, worried. Meanwhile, Axel and Naminé were in the Organization's meeting room.
“You're all that they got left. So then, if you don't stop this, no one will,” Axel said. Naminé gasped.
“But I... It's too late,” she said.
“You shouldn't give up just yet. Say, Naminé. Have you noticed? Marluxia doesn't seem to be around,” Axel said.
“What are you...saying?”
“Just that there's no one here who would want to get in your way.” Naminé ran out of the room.
“Just make it count. Now THIS should be interesting. Try and make it enjoyable, Sora and (Y/N). It's the least you can do for me, you know,” Axel said. He laughed. He then noticed something and clutched his chest.
“Hey, wait. I'm enjoying this. You guys ARE something else!” he said.
~~~~
You and Sora entered the Twelfth Floor. The two of you took out the Destiny Islands card and looked at it. Jiminy popped out from Sora's hood.
“Sora, (Y/N), that was no way to---” he said.
“Keep it to yourself!” Sora said. The two of you were about to walk through the door but another headache hit you. This one was more painful than the others. It was so painful that you ended up screaming in pain.
“(Y/N)! Are you okay?” Sora asked. You didn’t respond but only groaned in pain.
~~~~
You were back where you saw your mom and your dad. This time, your mom was laying in bed, rubbing her tummy which you knew that was you inside.
“We need a name,” she said.
“How about, Odile?” Ira asked.
“Nah. Don’t like it.” (sorry if your name’s actually Odile)
“Okay. How about (Y/N)?”
“(Y/N)...I like that.” You smiled at the scene of your parents deciding your name. The scene faded and you saw Vanitas walk up to you.
“Vani? Vani!” you said. You ran to him and hugged him tight.
“I saw what happened to you and I’m so sorry. Dad’s getting stronger by the minute,” he said.
“What should we do?” you asked.
“I-I don’t know. If you find Ven, tell him that you’re my sister. I’m sure he’ll understand what you’re saying.”
“But what about my eye? It looks like dad’s. What’s happening to me?”
“Remember when I sent you away?”
“Yeah.”
“I did it so that dad wouldn’t use you as a vessel but it seems like your bond with him is what making your eye look like his. And if this continues, he’ll make you his vessel.”
“Vani, I’m scared.”
“I know. Let’s try not to think about it. Tell me about your adventures. I haven’t heard about those.”
“Okay. Um, I found out that my mom is a spirit like me. Her name’s even on my dagger.”
“That’s awesome. I’m so proud of you.”
“And that’s not all. Whenever I get these headaches, I see what my mom actually looks like, and dad’s not actually my dad. It’s someone named Ira.”
“I knew that you weren’t actually his daughter. Not only did you have more light inside you, he told me that you weren’t.” You felt Vani starting to disappear.
“I don’t want you to leave yet,” you said.
“I know. But just know that I’ll always be by your side,” he said. He slipped through your arms and gave you a little unversed.
~~~~
“(Y/N)? Are you okay?” Sora asked as you relaxed from your headache.
“Y-yeah,” you said. You sat up and felt something in your lap. You looked down and saw that it was the unversed that Vanitas gave you.
“What is that?” Jiminy asked.
“Vani...” you said softly. The unversed looked at you and purred.
“I-I’m not sure what it is but she seems to like me,” you said.
“What are you gonna name her?” Sora asked.
“Odile.” Sora smiled and helped you stand up. The unversed climbed up onto your shoulders and found comfort there.
“Ready?” Sora asked. You nodded and the two of you headed into the new world that was waiting for you.
To be continued...

Mitsuki Izumi Twelve Hits! Rabbit Chat Part 3: Request Hits 2
Part 1 | Part 2 | Part 4 | Part 5
Mitsuki: Sorry for making you all wait! I'm fine now!
Tsumugi: Now that everyone has returned, let's resume the questions. There's still some left to go!
Tsumugi: Mitsuki-san, it's your turn!
Mitsuki: My request for myself is to read one extra bit of mail from the listeners!
Tsumugi: Mail?
Mitsuki: I can't do anything about the fact that there's too many messages for me to read, but I wanted to read at least one more than I normally would. I'm sure all the people who send mail put a lot of effort into it.
Tenn: You care just as much for your fans, then.
Mitsuki: They're basically like a treasure to me!
Mitsuki: But I guess I also wanna introduce them to everyone, so they can listen to the kind of mail I get!
Tenn: Your fans must like that, too. Knowing that the things they send make you so happy.
Tsumugi: Kujo-san's right! Thank you for a lovely request.
Tsumugi: Yamato-san, you're next!
Yamato: Tell us about your shady past.
Yamato: How's that?
Mitsuki: Uh... My shady past~!?
Mitsuki: I bet you typed that out with the smuggest look on your face, lol
Yamato: You've got the image of this cheerful and energetic guy, don't you have anything that could change that? (lol)
Iori: Wait. That's enough.
Iori: Our agency can't allow that, right, manager?
Tsumugi: Huh!?
Iori: Nii-san has no shady past, and we're not going to do anything that would mess up his image.
Yamato: Wait, how would you know?
Iori: I don't, either. Since I'm a perfect high schooler.
Tamaki: Huh? You don't? I bet you totally do, though
Iori: Quiet.
Yamato: Don't you wanna find out, Ichi?
Mitsuki: Hey, Iori. Why are you taking so long to reply to this one? lol
Iori: I-I'm sorry, Nii-san.
Tsumugi: As far as our agency goes, I suppose it would depend on what exactly his "shady past" entails! We should discuss this later, Yamato-san and Mitsuki-san!
Tsumugi: Yaotome-san, it's time for your request!
Gaku: Oh, my turn. I guess mine would be to give a message to yourself in 10 years.
Mitsuki: Aaaagh, that one sounds super embarrassing, lololol
Gaku: Why? Don't you have stuff you wanna do or be? Might as well let it all out for this show.
Gaku: I don't care if it's serious or not.
Mitsuki: Stuff I wanna do or be... Yeah, of course I have something like that!
Mitsuki: But it's embarrassing!
Mitsuki: First you ask me about my past, and now it's my future. Though at least you're not asking me to talk about anything shady, lololol
Yamato: Your shady past could involve something really moving, couldn't it?
Gaku: Like what? (lol)
Tsumugi: You're both very eager to know more about Mitsuki-san!
Mitsuki: I don't think I'll be any different by then!
Mitsuki: But I guess I'll think of something. Thanks, Yaotome! And you too, geezer!
Gaku: Yeah. You're welcome.
Yamato: No problem.
Tsumugi: That was a heartwarming request! Thank you, Yaotome-san!
Tsumugi: Tsunashi-san, are you ready?
Ryunosuke: I want some fanservice from Mitsuki-kun!
Mitsuki: Wha...
Mitsuki: I laughed so hard I spilled my coffee!!!
Mitsuki: Fanservice!? From me? To you?
Ryunosuke: When I see you do fanservice during lives, I find myself thinking about how cool you are for responding to each and every fan. And your fans look really happy about it.
Ryunosuke: I want to follow your example!
Mitsuki: No, wait, hold on..! Your fanservice is already so manly and sexy that it nearly makes your fans faint, so wouldn't improving on it any more than that be dangerous..!?
Ryunosuke: So you can't do it? I guess it would be difficult, since this is a radio broadcast we're talking about...
Momo: It's a great idea~! I wanna get some fanservice from Mitsuki, too!
Yuki: It does sound nice. Do something wild for me
Mitsuki: Wild, lololol
Mitsuki: Wait, I need to do it for Momo-san and Yuki-san, too!?
Riku: Me! Me! I want some, too!
Nagi: As do I.
Tamaki: And me.
Iori: You're all in the same group as him!
Riku: Ah... but he could do it for me during his unit song!
Nagi: Not for me, however... :,-(
Mitsuki: I'll do it for you guys at the dorm, lololol
Nagi: Thank you. You are a wonderful, service-oriented idol!
Riku: Yay!
Tamaki:
Sogo: We'll have to build a stage in the living room.
Yamato: This is getting pretty serious (lol)
Ryunosuke: That's great, you three!
Mitsuki: As for Tsunashi-san and the others, can we just agree that I'll do it in case I happen to draw that request on air?
Ryunosuke: Thank you, Mitsuki-kun! I'll be praying that you draw my request.
Momo: (o'3`d)☆
Yuki: (o'3`d)☆
Mitsuki: Aaaah! This is all just so embarrassing... lol
Tsumugi: I'm sure it'll make for a fun corner if Tsunashi-san's request is chosen!
Tsumugi: Momo-san, it's your turn.
Momo: Okay! My request is that Mitsuki takes a crack at breaking my stick-and-ball record!
Momo: The two of us have been pretty into it lately~. It'll be a good change of pace, and it's fun, too!
Mitsuki: You mastered the around-the-world technique the other day, didn't you!
Momo: Yep! The combo! But I still mess it up most of the time~.
Mitsuki: The hole in the ball always ends up somewhere random the more you keep doing moves.
Mitsuki: I guess it's better to just do one move at a
Mitsuki: ...Sorry, lol I got way too into this, lol
Momo: This turned into a stick-and- ball chat, lol
Yuki: You're like a pair of boys
Momo: I am a boy, Darling lololol
Mitsuki: But about your request, I think it'd be difficult to do over radio. They'd only be able to hear me playing...
Momo: Ohoho! That's where your in-depth live commentary comes in!
Mitsuki: Huh!? I have to talk while I play?
Mitsuki: Wouldn't that be really difficult!?
Momo: That's what makes it fun~! We can practice together some more before your show (∩´∀`)∩
Mitsuki: I could definitely use that, lol
Tsumugi: It's an unexpected request, but it sounds fun!
Tsumugi: Yuki-san, we need one final request from you!
Yuki: My request is a cooking song
Mitsuki: A cooking song?
Yuki: Like a cooking version of those songs they use to teach kids how to draw things. You're a great cook, so I want you to sing some recipes I don't know.
Mitsuki: Sing, lololol
Mitsuki: Why do I need to sing, lololol
Momo: Because the parody song from Yamato's show was so funny to him, I guess? After he heard it, he was doubled over and shaking for a pretty long while, lol
Yuki: It was so funny I almost couldn't breathe
Mitsuki: Ah, that song, lolol
Yamato: Aaaaaaaaaahhh
Yamato: Let's not talk about that!!!
Yuki: Thank you for singing such a lovely song for me, Yamato-kun ^^
Yamato: You better watch out once your turn rolls around...
Mitsuki: I've never made a song before, but I'll think about it, lol I've got a few recipes from my grandma that use wild herbs, would that do?
Yuki: Wild herbs sound good. They're perfect for this time of the year, too.
Tsumugi: I'd like to hear Mitsuki-san's cooking song, too!
Tsumugi: I've got all of your requests. Thank you all for the fun ideas!
Mitsuki: Thank you!
Momo: So now it's time for Mitsuki to come up with requests for the rest of us ★
Sogo: Ask anything, Mitsuki-san.
Choices/outcomes:
1. Do you have a request for us?
Mitsuki: That's the thing, I don't have anything in particular. You eat everything I cook without complaints, and I love you guys!
2. Do you have a request for TRIGGER?
Mitsuki: I want to have dinner with all three of them! I get to see Kujo even more rarely than the others, so let me arrange something!
3. Do you have a request for Re:vale?
Mitsuki: Feel free to invite us on your show whenever! I'll think of some project we can do together, lol
Mitsuki: Just being able to keep having fun with you is enough for me, though!
Yuki: It's almost your birthday, so you could at least ask us to rent an entire island for your party.
Momo: Would you even go to a party on an island!?
Yuki: Yeah? But I'd only stay indoors
Iori: If that's what Nii-san wants, I'll look around for an island we could rent.
Mitsuki: I think a room at a karaoke place is more than enough for me, lol
Yuki: It's still a little early, but. Happy birthday
Ryunosuke: Happy birthday! Do your best at the radio show!
Momo: ・:*:・:(*P'v`q)☆ Happy Birthday dear Mitsuki ☆(*P'v`q):・:*:・ I'll message you about our stick-and-ball practice later!
Tenn: Happy birthday.
Gaku: Happy birthday. Talk to you again sometime!
Banri: Happy birthday, Mitsuki-kun! Thank you for being IDOLiSH7's cheerful mood maker. I hope you'll have another great year!
Rinto: Happy birthday!
Kaoru: Happy birthday. I hope you'll continue to treat our boys well.
Tsumugi: And a happy birthday from me, as well!
Mitsuki: Wow! Thank you! It makes me really happy that you're always celebrating with me..!
Mitsuki: I'm gonna keep working on becoming a new me, so I hope you'll support me!
Nagi: Mitsuki, I will not wish you a happy birthday yet. Our special night together has only just begun.
Sogo: A special night... When Nagi-kun says that, it kind of makes your heart race.
Tamaki: We're pretty used to it by now, though
Mitsuki: Thanks to you guys, too! I'll do my best with the broadcast!

It's cool. It happens sometimes. Part one was me totally agreeing with you that I'm most curious about Roxas's response and how that pushes his character onward. In Remind we may not even see Roxas much post Kairi rescue scenario. There are a lot of characters and the focus on in that section. It could be just Riku, Aqua, FF characters in the spotlight and such for times sake while the rest is saved for the future. But I sure hope not. Riku did mention everyone is looking for Sora. I hope-
everyone gets a bit of pov. Roxas particularly since out of all the gotta save people group. Roxas was the one Sora felt most for. It just hit me. Remember when Nomura said Roxas was KH3's biggest secret and how everyone was disappointed when nothing big happened other then he returned. Maybe the thing Nomura was hush about will happen in Remind? Basically I also said how Roxas's life is basically perfect now and he has everything and more then he ever desired. Will he be satisfied though?
-------------------------------
What if he had to abandon an actually idyllic life to bring him back? * Totally agree w/you. There is do much they could do w/Roxas's character. Roxas had one of the most dramatic view changes of Sora. Oblivious. Apathy. Wary curiousity. Resentment. Hatred. Respect. Admiration. Complete trust. Gratitude. Nearly idolizing. Now that Roxas is separate from Sora. Does he want to still be attached to Sora in some way? I'd say if he's willing to race Riku and be ok w/Isa joining okay dates. Then yes-
I have no reason to believe Roxas not only would be ok w/Sora still being apart of his life. But he'd really want it too. It's funny because out of his trio. Roxas showed the least desire to be a hero. He wasn't a bad person (Axel was the worst). But even w/Xion she wasn't just doing it to save Roxas. She was also compelled to do the right thing and atone for her actions. Axel had his kh2 arc of learning to enjoy doing the right. Atone for his actions. Then post ressurection got a Keyblade -
to keep doing the right along with protecting his friends. Roxas is the only one who hasn't really gotten his hero arc yet. He's done heroic things because he has a good heart. But to me it hasn't ever seemed like he's made the resolve to be a Hero hero like other characters by his own choice. He's normally suddenly forced into situations that he can only resign to or aggressively react to against his will. Looking for Sora while another war starts to brew sounds like a good opportunity.
These were technically from two different numbered sets, but since they were formatted the same and on the same topic I’m gonna assume they were all the same anon and answer them together, alright?
I actually completely forgot about that “Roxas being the biggest secret of KH3″ thing. You could totally be right about him having had a bigger role that was then relegated to Re:Mind at some point. It would be very disappointing if that “big secret” was just “Replica bodies are a plot point that we don’t want to spoil at the moment.” And I don’t really take Riku and Aqua being heavily showcased in the trailer as indicative of them being the only ones to get major screentime looking for Sora. They’re two of the most popular characters in a trailer meant to sell the game. That’s just a given in smart marketing
I, too, find it hard to believe that Roxas wouldn’t be okay with Sora being a part of his life, especially after the whole “It really has to be you” moment from DDD. And if Ven can “feel” things in the outside world through Sora, then I’m sure Roxas could “feel” every time Sora wanted to save him. And, like you said, he seems alright with Riku and Isa who both did way worse to him. I think where we’re at now, Roxas and Sora have already come to an understanding between them. All that’s left is what Roxas considers that understanding to be worth to him
And there’s a lot to explore there. Does he feel indebted to Sora? Like he won’t be satisfied until he gives back to Sora what he thinks Sora’s owed for returning his life to him? Is it a bond of loyalty, building off of the brotherly themes in KH3? What if he thinks the best way to pay Sora back, to make the most of the new life Sora worked so hard to give him, is to live that life and let Sora be saved by someone else? (I hope not, but it would be an interesting direction to take it)
Maybe this is just my inner Roxas fan coming out, but I don’t think he’s totally done yet. At the very least, I hope he’s not. Ven and Sora are both going to be major characters coming up for sure, so it would be kinda rude to leave Roxas out. And also to have so much buildup for Sora and Roxas’s relationship in KH3 only for them to get absolutely no closure together beyond like... a single nod at the Keyblade Graveyard
#days was my first kh game so i'm real attached to roxas#i wanna see the boy in re:mind nomura#i need closure#anon asks#liz answers
