“ ... Rufo, 38, is interesting and important in his own right. Not even three years ago, he was known, if he was known at all, as a short-lived Seattle city council candidate and a more or less middling maker of documentary films. Now he is, he says, a policy scholar and a political combatant, an activist and a polemicist — a journalist. He’s “a right-wing propagandist,” in the words of Rep. Jamie Raskin, the Democrat from Maryland. He’s “a hired gun for the information wars,” in the estimation of rhetoric expert Jen Mercieca. .... “

Y’all I just gotta say, if you’re gonna whine over lady custodes let me just say…. I’m actually thinking of buying them now just to make the neckbeards cranky. I’ve been in this hobby for 2 decades and have heard so much whiney bs from grown men who don’t think women belong in the hobby PERIOD!
If you really are so easily offended then let me just say… you wouldn’t last if you were a minority. We have actual shit to deal with. You go ahead and keep pretending like you’re not the snowflake though I guess.

currently all i want in my life is to have a reference librarian job at a library where nobody is doing weirdo power grab stuff/acting like sixth graders who don't want me at their lunch table. this desire feels pathetic to me & also probably wouldn't work anyway because i am incapable of showing up to a library but i immediately am like "i am CONCERNED! about the STATE of the FIELD!" and am constantly brimming with painfully earnest & deeply felt opinions. which is cringe, obviously, and also annoying to others. but in my defense the state of the field is fuckin bad. anyway. one simply should not dream of labor. etc.
#irredeemable whining#talked to my friend who's a youth librarian in fl*rida on the phone & her library director's whole strategy is to hope#that the right-wing elected officials who are doing evil culture wars bullshit & cutting services#will simply forget about the library. like if they just keep their heads down no one will get mad at them#so they're making all kinds of quiet concessions & really encouraging staff to be like. timid. no pride displays no juneteenth#& the problem here is that the right-wing project is to destroy social infrastructure; to privatize public goods#so they must inevitably encounter the library! the pride stuff for some is an excuse; for the rest no appeasement is possible#short of completely removing queer perspectives from the stacks. which would be difficult because they employ queer librarians!#the library is an inevitable target or it wasn't doing anything worthwhile. they're either going to wreck it or it was already nothing.#& we are not organized to respond we do not have a powerful counternarrative we do not have a plan. it's fucked#so you know. grounds 4 concern etc.

I see my 'You can blame the school system for the rise of ignorance and lack of critical thinking, actually, because the Republicans have spent at least 80 year gutting school curriculums and budgets and inserting right wing Christian shit into schools specifically to create a voter base that is easily manipulated' post addition is doing numbers.

Everytime I read some news about social democrats trying to out right-wing right-wing parties when it comes to migration I am so glad Doskozil did not win that election to be the leader of the SPÖ
#obviously the labour party in the UK is the absolute worst when it comes to this as far as I have seen#I just know Doskozil would be so annoying#Babler's strategy right now seems to be to just not talk about migration#which personally i prefer to just copy paste right wing talking points#Austrian politics

Their strategy of change is based on psychological warfare, as Supreme Commander Nikolai Alexander explains:
You cannot get rid of everyone that gets into your way, and even if you could, that wouldn't be smart. No, it's best to beat your enemy without firing a single shot. This means you have to beat him with legal or at least semi-legal means. [. . .] Through demoralisation, subversion and infiltration. This means you need to undermine the morale of your opponent by spreading defeatism. For example, by saying this doesn't make any sense, this doesn't lead anywhere, just leave it. Ideally, in combination with smear, for instance by claiming that you work for the enemy. Then of course denigration, so that everything will be questioned, picked to pieces and decried. You sow discontent, impatience and doubt about the leadership. The word for this assault tactic is 'constructive criticism', a concept of the Frankfurt School. Then you try to pit members against one another, stir up disputes, create coteries, promote traitors and expel loyalists. Install levers to influence everything in your interest, outsource relevant structures, etc. And of course, spying, disinformation, lies, smear – the entire set of approaches. These are the tactics and mechanisms to sabotage and destroy a movement.

So, I've seen a few people in the notes trying to shrug this off as "these people don't know exactly what they're saying," and while I get the knee-jerk reaction is to assume that people can't be that evil, I cannot stress enough that Donald Trump has appeared on InfoWars before, years ago. This is not NEW for him in any regard.
Alex Jones has also, on his show, claimed that Democrats, Jews, and various other people are inhuman things masquerading as people. Gremlin-wraiths, Renfields, vampires - it sounds like complete lunacy, and IT IS, but you have to recognize that while on the surface it sounds like complete bullshit and like nobody can be stupid enough to believe it, it isn't designed to be necessarily believable. It's designed to sink hooks into people that are already on that fringe line and designed to dehumanize groups of people. You can call Democrats and Jews and Black people and queer people something as emphatically meaningless as "gremlin-wraiths" because that word doesn't have to mean anything. It just has to mean "not human."
Also, on the vaccine thing - the far right wingnuts have been screeching for years that it is a poison shot and that it's killing millions. The people who were told this didn't fact-check it, they just took that news at face value, and were manipulated to believe that the death count they saw from COVID was in part DUE to the vaccine, not because of COVID itself. This also feeds into the dehumanization of (mostly Jews, admittedly) other people, because they believe that this was a concerted effort by their enemies (or, in specifically Alex Jones' alt right nutcase circles, the "New World Order") to kill off their opponents.
I know I'm bringing up specifically Alex Jones-flavored talking points to the discussion of alt-right nuttery, but that's because, despite the financial bashing he (rightfully) took as a result of the Sandy Hook suits, and how even most alt right whackos will talk about him like he's a joke, he and his goddamned show InfoWars hugely helped spearhead this bullshit.
People like those that dedicatedly watch Alex Jones' show have been steadily primed to believe that they are constantly under threat, that their enemies are trying to actively wrench away their freedoms and have been actively trying to kill them either through poisonous vaccine shots or through poisoned waters, that the people who do so are not human, and that it is up to them to instate people they can trust to power and to take matters into their own hands if need be via the second amendment (i.e., shoot and kill people).
These people live on another fucking planet, quite frankly, where they think the world is somehow out to get them and that they have to fucking shoot-em-up style blast their way into keeping their freedom. They have tons of dogwhistles. Even if it sounds insanely weird or over-the-top or bizarre to you, chances are, it probably means something to them, and while it's fun to make jokes about how chemicals in the water are turning the frogs gay, it's good to do research and realize that that is actually still antisemitic as hell and being used to prime people to think they are under attack and that their life is in danger, for profit and for political gain.
this shouldnt be the funniest thing in the world to me but here we are
#I've been listening a lot to a podcast lately about Alex Jones and alt right nutcases#called Knowledge Fight#While I don't always agree with the positions Dan and Jordan take on things#It's more of an ideological difference. They still fundamentally agree that Alex Jones#and all his little joneslings are assholes and an active threat to society#(I just wish Jordan#for example#would stop throwing around the word psycopath so much)#but honestly the issues I have with it are tiny#compared to just how insightful and invaluable it has been#to learning about right-wing dogwhistles and nuttery#I HIGHLY recommend their podcast bc in this day and age#I think it is VERY important to learn about what strategies the right#specifically the alt right#do to gain the upper hand#also ragging on Alex Jones is fun. I highly recommend the deposition episodes :>

tw american politics and i wish i could say i'm still having trouble grasping how the harris campaign failed so catastrophically but i've had no issues thus far just because i expect less than nothing from the democratic party. if there's a way to fumble they'll definitely find it and revel in it gleefully and almost spitefully until they reach an undesired outcome (losing), at which point it's everyone else's fault for not supporting them enough. or something
#currently debating this with a friend and my verdict is that this was a foregone conclusion#the fact that harris couldn't even pay lip service to things like trans rights or palestine (this came up in the 11th hour)#essentially sealed the deal#term 2 bush w was my first election so i've definitely earned the right to be jaded about the dems' whole process#anyway us politics are a roaring trash fire befitting a comically evil country#i don't subscribe to the “everyone is the same” belief system because that's reductive and shortsighted#but the choices this time were right wing and even righter wing lmao#so i can't say i was enthused#in any case i'm irritated by people gloating that harris lost because this is legitimately a frightening situation for many people#like globally#i feel like if you're going for a PhD in Posting and consider yourself progressive#you should maybe be thinking about mitigation strategies#and keeping certain kinds of information circulating#(like how to gain access to abortion care)#because even that is going to become more difficult to do#anyway canada has its own very similar shit to worry about for 2025#so i'll be directing my attention towards everything involved in that

Preparing for a Trump Comeback: Strategies from a Right-Wing Think Tank
Strategizing for a Trump Comeback Late this summer, a prominent right-wing think tank convened conservatives from across the country, aiming to equip them with the necessary skills to navigate a potential second administration under Donald J. Trump. In a series of intensive training sessions held in Washington, former officials from the Trump administration shared invaluable strategies for…

All the takes are correct and yet they also miss the point. Yes, it was insane for the Democrats to think they could win by running a soulless candidate, without a shred of progressive policy vision, pursuing endorsements from neocon war-hawks everybody hates, while arming and funding a genocide, and belittling and crushing those who have enough morality to protest it. It is enraging that the Democrats are so smug and blind to this. But these are all just symptoms. The deeper reality is that liberalism has failed, liberalism is dead, and people urgently need to wake up to this fact and respond accordingly. It is a defunct ideology that cannot offer any meaningful solutions to our social and ecological crises and it must be abandoned. Democrats have proven over and over again that they cannot accept even basic steps like public healthcare, affordable housing, and a public job guarantee - things that would dramatically improve the material, social and political conditions of the working classes. And they cannot accept a public finance strategy that would steer production away from fossil fuels and toward green transition to give us a shot at a liveable future. Why? Because these things run against the objectives of capital accumulation. And for liberals capital is sacrosanct. They will do whatever it takes to ensure elite accumulation, it is their only consistent commitment. At home, they suppress and demonize progressive and socialist tendencies. Abroad, they engage in endless wars and violence to suppress input prices in the global South and prevent any possibility of sovereign economic development. The Democrats have done all this purposefully and knowingly, for my whole life, not as some kind of "mistake" but in full consciousness that it is in the interests of capital. And because liberalism cannot address our crises, and because it crushes socialist alternatives, it inevitably paves the way for right-wing populism. They know this pattern, and yet they risk it every time - this election being only the most recent example. They did it in 2016, when they actively crushed the Sanders campaign and sent Trump to the White House. They do it because ultimately they (and I mean the liberal ruling class here) don't really mind if fascists take power, so long as the latter too ensure the conditions for capital accumulation. They 100% prefer this to the possibility of a socialist alternative. So, progressives have to face reality. The dream of "converting" the Democratic party is dead. This is now a fact and it must be accepted. The only option is to build a mass-based movement that can reclaim the working classes and mobilize a political vehicle that can integrate disparate progressive struggles into a unified and formidable political force and achieve substantive transformation. This will take real work, actual organizing, but it must be done and that process must begin now.

Ask A Genius 995: A Sense of False Balance
Scott Douglas Jacobsen: What is there in the sense of false balance in the United States? Rosner: We just had a discussion where you said I went on a rant, which I believe to be accurate, about it being a Republican strategy to appeal to less informed voters because they are a capturable demographic. The GOP has been trying to capture them and has been largely successful since the 1970s. Where we…

Isn't it funny how the right has resorted to harrassment, false claims and attacking family members as a modus operandi, to the point where the president is about to resign? Isn't it funny how far they are willing to go into making a joke of democracy in this country? How they have been calling the president a terrorist and dictatorial while they have been blocking the renewal of the justice institutions for five years? How they will make false claims about the president's wife to delegitimize him, but at the same time, the leader of the opposition was a known friend of a drug lord? Isn't it fucking hilarious?
#I kinda suspect sanchez is using this as a strategy to win back support#Which i mean#Wouldn't blame him he's astute#But it still reveals a deep rot within the right wing#But it's all so ridiculous#I sort of don't believe him but at the same time understand him either way
