I just watched The Love Witch for the first time and would love to know your opinion (if you have seen it)?

i have mixed feelings about the love witch tbh. on one hand, it’s visually stunning and i would love to see more movies embrace the style and production value of older cinema, especially these older horror movies that i love that are so atmospheric. it’s so whimsical and dreamlike

i also like MY interpretation of the movie, which is about elaine’s desire for agency and power to protect herself from men, but she tries to do so by appealing to male desires thinking that if she gives them what they want, they’ll give her what she wants, which is a fundamental misunderstanding of the exploitation of women under the patriarchy — you can’t gain your freedom from the patriarchy by submitting to it. she wants love because she wants control, and she conflates her hatred and bitterness with an excess of love because that’s the narrative that makes sense to her. but if you watch her interactions with any man in the movie, she really does fucking hate them. at the end, after her appeal to the male gaze fails to protect her from sexual violence, she realizes that manipulating male desire isn’t enough — her repressed desire to hurt the people who hurt her is finally expressed by direct violence. i find that to be a tentatively hopeful ending for her

however. i don’t necessarily think that is the “correct” interpretation lol (in terms of author’s intent) and the fact that i’m not sure if the filmmakers intended this story to be like a tradwife manifesto or if it’s being critical of that rhetoric is already a problem because that means the messaging is extremely muddled. i see people quote this movie completely uncritically, i think a lot of elaine’s idea that she can achieve agency by being the perfect traditional woman appeals to a lot of young women, it certainly is in line with the popular 2010s trope of female characters who can be feminine AND strong, she has eyeliner so sharp she can cut you with it and she’ll kill you with her high heels on and she’ll make men underestimate her by seducing them or acting dumb. which of course is a way to repackage the sexy male gaze token female character into an acceptably “feminist” character so we don’t question it anymore. that was peak Strong Female Character -ism and i think that’s widely regarded as a regressive trope now but this movie speaks to that logic, and now it speaks to the “coquette” trend as well which doesn’t even purport to be interested in female agency (not even “feminism,” just basic agency lol). anyway my least favorite criticism of satire is that it’s not clear enough that it’s satire because sometimes people are just being dumb when they say that, but in this case i really can’t tell which perspective the audience is intended to agree with and that’s a problem to me. idk if it’s even intended to be satirical at all lmao

the part of the movie that illustrates the tradwife-esque narrative for me is the character trish. she voices the perspective of female equality with men especially within a romantic relationship as a partnership, and not only is she shut down by elaine, but she’s framed as this naggy, jealous character who turns on elaine and is just as much a participant in elaine’s victimization as the men in her life. her relationship with her husband is actually insecure despite her insistence that they have mutual respect and her repressed desire to be the same type of woman as elaine is manifested as rage and violence towards her. they model two types of womanhood and we are not supposed to side with the model where women demand mutual respect, because the movie doesn’t believe that men are capable of that or that women actually desire that. it’s such a standard tradwife perspective that feminism is for ugly women who can’t be women the “right” way so they can’t be successful within the patriarchal status quo

and it’s such a bummer because i think the movie taps into such a real experience of rejection and powerlessness and being at the whims of shitty, deeply pathetic men. the movie has a sharp, derisive, sarcastic humor that i think goes under-appreciated, because it’s hard to tell what’s being said genuinely and what’s being said with a wink at the audience

all that is to say, i’ve watched the movie a couple times and i really enjoy what i got out of it but i don’t know if that says more about ME or the movie itself. upon first viewing i thought it was absolutely genius, i kind of wish i had preserved that experience by not reading what other people have said about it lol but i think it’s kind of a product of its time — we’re continuing to navigate gendered power dynamics and trying to figure out the best way to approach being a woman interacting with a male dominated world. i’m not convinced that this movie has it figured out but i want to be able to enjoy it for its merits and take what i want from the story

tl;dr: the way i interpret it, it’s one of my favorite movies. but idk if i’m interpreting it “right”

also: it reminds me of the haunting of hill house because of the main character’s sublimated loneliness, anger, and jealousy, the narrative doubling (elaine + trish are so theo + eleanor coded to me lol), and the 1960s aesthetic sensibilities

Boromir for the character ask?

First impression

First, first impression when I was like 11 and in theatres seeing LOTR for the first time? I couldn't tell him apart from Aragorn lol - it was two white dudes with the same hair cut and facial hair!

More serious note, like most, when I was young, I found him a bit unnerving and even frightening. Then it shifted to no strong opinion either way and now, obviously, that's vastly different.

Impression now

Love him so much. The older I get the more I sympathise with him and what he was going through. All he had on his shoulders and the stresses of his position and the expectations his people had of him to be their stalwart defender against Sauron. Let alone the whole Family Dynamic.

He is a complex, wholly imperfect person and I really appreciate that about him.

Favorite moment

In the movies I'm torn between the bit where he's teaching Merry and Pippin how to sword fight and every Fraught Conversation He Ever Had With Aragorn (there were so many).

In the books I love his response to the Balrog being: I'm Gonna Fight it.

Gandalf: We're not fighting it.

Aragorn: No, he's right, we should fight it.

Boromir: drawing my sword! it's gonna happen!

Idea for a story

Not sure I have one off hand - obviously every iteration of Boromir Lives is a godsend to us poor mortals.

ahufflepuffhobbit will know where this came from lol - but I am enamoured with a story idea of Boromir and Aragorn and Eowyn being a power couple.

Boromir lives, somehow. Schematics aren't important. Comes to Rohan, so Eowyn is like: Oh Wow Yes. Both of these men are A+

And obviously Boromir would be like "yeah girl you kill that orc. I'll hold your mead." Aragorn would be like, "the two people I love are MANIACS who enable each other."

Anyway, let Eowyn be queen of Gondor!! She deserves it and two hot husbands!!

Unpopular opinion

Not an evil or bad man? He has nothing to atone for?

idk - I'm not sure I have one when it comes to Boromir. There are people who don't like him, but my general opinions and read of the man aren't super out of the ballpark.

Is my opinion that Tolkien undermined his own narrative purpose about love etc. by killing Boromir unpopular?

(My one like, "yeah I get it and think it's important to the story," is that Boromir's death shows the reality of the great danger they are all in and that no one is coming out of this unscathed and he represents those who went to war and didn't come home. All those sons and brothers for whom people buried empty coffins. It's an important role that is needed in the story. But Tolkien, stop killing off only people who have "done wrong".)

Favorite relationship

Merry and Pippin, obviously. The three of them have a fantastic dynamic and clearly they need to hang out together more often.

I also love the complexity and manifold layers of his relationship with Aragorn and we were robbed by Tolkien in not having a chance to see how that would have unfolded over the course of the books.

Because there is Boromir before some of the dire, insane shit the Fellowship went through together and Boromir after - and I wish we got to see that and how it impacted/informed/changed his relationships with people.

Favorite headcanon

He and Gimli are Bros! The only reason I didn't have this as "favourite relationship" (because it is), is because it's not strictly speaking canon.

But yeah, I headcanon that they bonded super quickly during the Fellowship and are just absolute besties. Boromir is best man at Gimli's wedding to Legolas. It's all great for everyone

Gathering of the Greatest Gumshoes - Number 14

Welcome to A Gathering of the Greatest Gumshoes! During this month-long event, I’ll be counting my Top 31 Favorite Fictional Detectives, from movies, television, literature, video games, and more!

SLEUTH-OF-THE-DAY’S QUOTE: “You attacked reason. It’s bad theology.”

Number 14 is…Father Brown.

Originally created by author G.K. Chesterton, Father Brown is one of the most famous detectives in English literature. Having said that, I must immediately make a confession: I’m not THAT well-versed (perhaps surprisingly) with the original “Father Brown” short stories Chesterton wrote. I’ve read some of them; specifically, I’ve now read all the ones collected in the book “The Innocence of Father Brown.” (My favorite is “The Invisible Man,” which, for the record, has absolutely nothing to do with anyone named Griffin). However, beyond that, I’m not especially familiar with the original writing. I also have not seen either of the two English-language film versions I know about (one played by Walter Connolly, another by Alec Guinness), both of which were based on the story “The Blue Cross.” And I should also immediately state that I have seen only one episode of the TV series starring Kenneth More from the 1970s, which I know has been highly lauded in years since.

So…since it seems like I am unfamiliar with nearly EVERYTHING that has brought this character into popular culture…how DO I know Father Brown, and why is he so high on the list? Well, because there is one version of the character and his universe that I am VERY familiar with: the most recent TV series adaptation of the stories, which began in 2013 and is still going strong today (with a new season coming this year). This show, simply and appropriately titled “Father Brown,” stars Mark Williams (whom many may recognize for playing Mr. Weasley in the Harry Potter films). While it frequently changes a LOT from the original Chesterton stories, the show is still EXTREMELY good. In my opinion, it modernizes the stories in a way that is pretty decently handled, so that even if you haven’t read the originals, you can still get a lot out of what’s being given to you. The spirit of Chesterton’s work is still intact. Much of what I say here will be informed by Williams’ portrayal of the character, which is why I wanted to make all this clear right off the bat.

Father Brown is an example of what might be called “the busybody detective,” or even more appropriately “the accidental detective.” What I mean by this is that he’s not in any way officially tied to the police; in fact, the police frequently see him as a nuisance, who gets in the way of their work and often makes them look like fools. He also never makes a career or a proper hobby out of his detective work. Being a detective just…kind of happens to him. Father Brown, on the surface, is a simple and humble local priest; a God-fearing, God-loving man of the cloth who is charitable, good-hearted, and at times seems sort of fumbling and shambolic. He’s not someone, therefore, you’d expect would make a great sleuth.

A great sleuth, of course, is exactly what this mild-mannered Catholic priest is. Father Brown’s rather simple demeanor belies a steely will, an even more steely faith, and a very cunning and alert mind. He typically ends up playing detective not so much out of a desire to one-up the police or some obsessive desire, but simply because he notices something amiss and begins to question why that is. His greatest assets as a sleuth can be summed up as two simple attributes: common sense, and, above all, human empathy. Father Brown doesn’t necessarily look for fingerprints or psychoanalyze criminals like a forensic profiler, but simply notices things that don’t make sense and then tries to make sense of them. He uses his understanding of people’s personalities, looks at their character traits and ideals, and uses them to his advantage; if he feels it isn’t in someone’s nature to shoot in cold blood, he follows his instinct, and he’s usually proven correct. If he sees someone showing some weakness or vulnerability, he latches onto that to try and sway them. He tries to redeem his enemies more often than he tries to ruin them. Contrariwise, this man also knows when NOT to trust people. While he’s noble and forgiving, Father Brown isn’t a pushover. In fact, the Williams version is revealed to be a war veteran; he’s seen some action (and horror) in his lifetime. This, combined with his devotion to the confessional booth, means that he knows very well that people are not perfect. With that said, despite being a religious soul, he isn’t superstitious, and tries to be tolerant of others with different beliefs. In short, Father Brown seems to understand that good people are good people, and tries to find the good in everyone, even those he seeks to defeat. Whether you’re spiritual or not, he’s not only a good detective, but arguably a good role model: I think a lot of us wish we had a Father Brown in our lives.

What made you ship it?

You know, I actually can't remember when I first started shipping them? It just seemed so obvious they were meant to be, I guess XD Maybe it was in the Barry the Chopper episode in the first anime, when Ed goes to rescue Winry. But I love friends-to-lovers, so I would probably ship them even if it wasn't explicit in canon <3

2. What are your favorite things about the ship?

I love how they're completely on the same wavelength in terms of "I will demonstrate how much I love you by yelling at you and beating you over the head" XD I love all those soft moments when they comfort and encourage each other, when they're there for each other. The way Winry doesn't have to pick up a gun and fight to support Ed and Al - and, in fact, she shouldn't! The way Ed looks to Winry as motivation to keep trying, to survive, to make sure he makes it back more or less in one piece. The promise about tears of joy, and the promise about apple pie. They're just so perfect for each other T^T

3. Is there an unpopular opinion you have on your ship?

Okay, I don't know if this is unpopular or not, but I have this little headcanon that Ed actually does settle down once he and Winry get married, despite how restless he usually is. Depending on what sort of job he gets after the main story, he might travel for work or research purposes or just to visit old friends, but he never stays away for very long. When it's just him and Winry, he might take her with him on his travels, and then after they have kids, maybe he takes them with him sometimes and sometimes leaves them at home. But the point is that, especially once he has his first child, he determines that he is going to make sure he's a constant presence in his children's lives, so they'll never have to experience what he and Al did.

Aragorn/Arwen

What made you ship it?

Mostly because it's canon. I don't have many strong opinions about the relationship, sorry.

2. What are your favorite things about the ship?

There is a certain legendary quality to their relationship, hearkening back to the whole Beren and Luthien thing. I also really appreciate Aragorn's tenacity in pursuing Arwen, despite all the obstacles in their way, and how willing Arwen is to love him back, despite what it means for her mortality.

3. Is there an unpopular opinion you have on your ship?

The kissing scene in the TTT movie is completely unnecessary, too long, and should have been cut. Fight me. Is that an unpopular opinion? I don't know, but it's one I'll be taking to my grave!

What made you ship it?

I can't really remember what I first thought of them, but I think it was probably something like, "Aw, they're cute, lookit them :3" And then in CW, I was like, "Yessss, I like this! They work really well together!"

But you know what tipped me over the edge into a feral Staron shipper? I don't think it was the first time, but one of the other times I went to see CW in the theater (I went to see it every weekend it was showing ^^'), during the credits I was sitting there enjoying my thoughts and waiting for the credits scene, when I heard two girls sitting in front of me talking about the movie. When Emily Van Camp's name came up on the screen, one of the girls said, "Ugh, I hate her, she's so ugly and annoying." Right then and there, I said to myself, "Oh yeah? Well, just to spite you, I have just now decided that I love Sharon Carter to death! >:(" Which was only exacerbated when, later that week, I saw an article somewhere about the whole "give Cap a boyfriend" thing, that said Steve and Sharon had no chemistry. (insert baffled animated Legolas face here - um, are we even watching the same movie, person?! o.0) And the more I thought about Sharon, the more I realized how great she is and how perfect for Steve!

2. What are your favorite things about the ship?

I love how simple and straightforward it is. There's not a ton of drama between them, it's just sweet and understated and cute. The kissing scene is so sweetly simple and beautifully done! (The exact opposite of the TTT AragornXArwen scene!) I love that little interaction in the hallway before Steve discovers who she is. I love their conversation after Peggy's funeral (especially the deleted scene!). I love the way Sharon keeps helping Steve and the others, even though it gets her into trouble. I love how, when Steve points this out, she just says simply, "I know."

Annnnd I have a ton of headcanons about how their relationship goes and stuff in Sharon's past, but that's fanfic territory ^^'

3. Is there an unpopular opinion you have on your ship?

Lol, I think shipping them at all is an unpopular opinion :P Maybe my unpopular opinion is that I do ship Steve with Peggy in the 1940s, but then I ship him with Sharon in the 21st century. Sharon is right for Steve right now because of the ways he's changed. I expect it's unpopular to acknowledge that people don't just have one perfect person for them, but rather a whole host of people they could have a successful relationship with if they commit to it. So yeah, Steve could have married Peggy and lived a full, happy life with her if things had gone differently...but that doesn't mean he can't also have a long, loving, beautiful relationship with Sharon now.

Would you ever want to visit Thailand? Maybe.  It's not near the top of my list of places I'd like to visit.

Do you like Marvel movies? Do you have a favourite? There are a few that I thought were alright, but overall I'm not really into them.

Have you ever planned a wedding? Yep.

How far away from home is the place you work or study? (or spend the most amount of time outside of home) Hard to say where I spend the most time away from home.  It's probably my brother/sister-in-law's house (5 minutes away), my favorite local hiking trail (10 minutes away), or the grocery store I shop at most often (12-ish minutes away).

Do you have any pimples right now? Nope.

What member of your family are you most similar to? In which ways? My husband, he and I have almost identical interests/hobbies/passions.  I'm also a lot like my brother, we're both very calm and analytical and we both have a quirky/goofy sense of humor.

How do you listen to music? Spotify, Apple Music, Youtube, something else? Apple Music, and occasionally Youtube Music.

Do you think everyone should vote, even if it's not mandatory? I don't really have a strong opinion either way.  I see voting as part of being an engaged citizen, but I also understand why people wouldn't be politically-opinionated enough to do it if they don't want to.

Have you ever painted a rock? Yep, when I was around 6 or 7 I painted a rock for my dad for Father's Day for him to use as a paperweight on his desk, and I wrote "#1 Dad" on it.  He actually still has it on his desk to this day haha.

If you could have any animal as a pet, what would you have? Budgies are the only animals I'd want as pets and I already have two.  I love all kinds of parrots but I don't think I could handle having larger birds.

Do you ever shop at Aldi? Do you even have one nearby? There's one in town, but I've only been there a few times.

How old were you at your first concert? I've never been to one.  Well, not like a rock/pop concert.  I've been to see the Cleveland Orchestra multiple times, and the first time was for my 16th birthday.

What are some of your favourite snacks? Hummus with pita chips and veggies, chips and queso, cheese and crackers.

Are you religious or spiritual in any way? I'm an atheist, but I still have a few beliefs that could be vaguely spiritual.  I believe that we have souls and that our consciousness lives on after bodily death, in some other plane of existence.  However I believe that his (along with everything else in existence) can be explained by science - even if it's an area of science that has not been discovered yet.

Do you know how to change the oil in a car? Yep, my husband and I used to do our own oil changes.  We don't bother with doing it ourselves now, though.  We just take the cars to the dealership - way easier.

Has it rained or snowed today? Nope.  There's rain and snow in the forecast for later this week, though.

Did you go to school with anyone named Levi? If so, what were they like? Nope.

What's on your shopping list at the moment? Not much at the moment.  Just cucumbers, spaghetti sauce, and milk.

Hot fandom take: idk if this means like for a specific fandom or just fandom in general, but either way i don't really think i have any? then again i didn't think that that "steve harrington wasn't a bad person/boyfriend he was literally just 17" post i made a little while ago was a hot take either but apparently it was a little more reactive than i expected

Do you wear any jewelry, if so, what’s your favorite piece: i'm literally always wearing jewelry; i've got two hands full of rings that i basically never take off like ever, and it's rare to see me without earrings in and necklaces on. my favorite piece at the moment is probably my little silver bat necklace i got at an antique mall about a year ago

A movie others liked but you didn’t: guys i'm really not a hater. also i tend not to watch movies i just don't have the attention span tbh

A place you hope to visit in the future and why: everywhere, there's so much of the world i haven't seen. more realistically though, i hope to visit my twin in washington sometime this year, probably in the summer

Things you’re excited for in the nearby future? there are a few alternative music club nights (emo, goth, metal) coming up over this next month and i'm very excited to dress up and go to those with friends!

What’s the most toxic fandom you’ve been in? all fandoms are toxic if you venture far enough or have the misfortune of landing in the wrong corners of the internet, but i think my worst experiences have been in areas of the percy jackson fandom (in the mid 2010s especially; ik it's probably kicking up again now with a new wave of toxic fans but i am living in blissful ignorance of that discourse) and, in more recent years, the stranger things fandom (i've had to narrow my involvement down to basically only one specific ship fandom within it and even then only seek it out on tumblr; tiktok is rancid)

List three things you find beautiful about life: human connection, the art of words and stories, the joy of flowers in the spring after a particularly desolate winter

Any dreams for the future? just the typical stuff really: graduate university (i have one semester left that's insane), move out (for realsies, not just for school), and find myself a solid job and make myself a solid home and be able to be self-sufficient and successful and happy in this world. ideally i also dream of actually finishing and publishing a novel one day

How are you really feeling today? i have not had even three consecutive hours of sleep a night for the past week and it's making me feel just a little bit insane, and i'm a bit anxious about school and about meeting up with a newish friend tomorrow, but overall i actually feel pretty good. i finally feel like i've got real proper friends here in this city and i've been seeing them a lot lately, so that's been buoying an overarching sense of positivity despite my sleep deprivation and anxiety

4. Say you’re recommending the show right now, how would you pitch it?

it REALLY depends who i'm recommending it to but the main points i would hit is that it's good, it's short and it's about vampires in the worst relationship ever. i do make sure to specifically say the relationship is abusive especially if i'm talking to someone i think would be into it for the romance, and i usually also say that it's pretty trigger-heavy. for some people it's a deterrent but for others it's a plus, so. i also sometimes describe the vampire element as 'what if you lived forever but also had a mental illness' which i think is fun.

7. If you read the book, what are your favorite changes from page to screen? 

Ohh i have many. the obvious ones like louis and claudia (but louis especially) being black, the time period change, making the domestic abuse textual, daniel being old and the original interview having taken part in the past, etc. but in terms of smaller changes, i think it has to be the baby-trapping switch; giving claudia and louis the ability to speak telepathically was a stroke of absolute genius it's so so good and interesting and creepy

11. Has your favorite episode remained the same since you first finished the season? 

yup, it's the pilot! tho eps 4 and 5 were strong contenders.

13. What was your favorite piece of music from the first season’s OST?

it's vicious. so fucking good inject those violins right into my veins

16. Do you have a favorite piece of art (book, movie, painting) that’s referenced or featured in the show?

very interesting question. i think it's probably the francis bacon triptych (three studies for figures at the base of a crucifixion)

22. Who's your favorite character? Why?

it's louis!!!!!!!! ldpdl forever and ever <3 i'll keep it simple and say i love a character full of nothing but contradictions, i love a delusional man, i love a man who suffers, and i think jacob anderson might be the epitome of human beauty

31. What’s your most anticipated season two storyline?

the storyline i'm most excited about is the souring of claudia and louis' relationship because i think it's such an interesting part of the book and i love it when characters act horribly. and i want claudia specifically to be so so horrible <3 and other than that, not a storyline exactly but i'm so so psyched to see the vampire theatre like. i'm a big theatre enjoyer. throw in any sort of puppetry and you'll win me forever

36. What’s an unpopular opinion you have?

oh man. i'll be honest i don't really know what's considered unpopular these days, i only follow a handful of people from the fandom and they tend to be the ones i share opinions with, but that doesn't mean those opinions are popular. i guess a truly unpopular opinion of mine is that i don't care about lestat/armand as a ship and i don't want the vampires to be poly or anything like that. insane drama jealousy and divorce forever <3 i guess another opinion that might be unpopular with hardcore book fans is that i don't care if lestat is redeemed or not, i have faith in the writers and i think either way could be interesting and that's ultimately what i care about. in general i guess i just don't care about book accuracy at all.

First of all I wanted to tell you that your fics are my comfort stories and thank you so much for your writing! Brumous has been absolutely perfect so far. I especially love the relationship between Harry and Sirius. These two deserve the world. And I love love love how Ron is supportive of Harry’s and Ginny’s relationship and also realizes that there is something going on between them instead of being an oblivious idiot. It’s so refreshing. I hated the way that was handled in the books and in many other fics. Maybe you elaborated on this before, but I wanted to ask why you hate Hermione ? I never cared for her much in the books and don‘t really have strong opinions on her so idc that she doesn‘t play a big role in your stories, I‘m simply curious.

Harry and Sirius’ relationship is so sad and tragic. I have a love/hate relationship with OOTP because of Sirius’ death. While I simply love the story, I hate how Sirius was done so dirty. I get why JKR did it and the purpose it served, but I don’t give a shit about that. My poor cabbage and artichoke deserve the world. I love them so much and I’m so excited to tell their story as a family unit and not just kill Sirius off like canon. Fuck canon.

I’m glad you are enjoying Ron. He’s one of my favorite characters and deserves the world. He is so kind and funny and an amazing friend. I hate how a majority of fandom treats him because the movies just made him a weird comic relief and gave all his best lines to Hermione.

I mean, I have answered the Hermione question a lot but that’s all right. An opportunity to show how problematic and awful Hermione is makes my day.

Hermione first off is an awful friend. She doesn’t listen to Harry or Ron and often dismisses them. In fact, she’s downright insensitive to Harry and his plights. She’s downright rude to Ron. She thinks she’s the most clever, smartest, best person in the entire world. She has all the answers and Ron and Harry are just along for the ride in her opinion. The brawn to her brain.

She’s bossy. She’s a know-it-all. She’s never apologetic. She’s insensitive.

I can’t think of one thing I even like about her character. Nor can I even think of one positive thing to say about her without it being a backhanded compliment because of her awful personality.

There was a reason she had no friends before Hogwarts (that’s canon, right? Is that fanon? I get confused sometimes) and there’s a reason she’s only friends with Ron and Harry. There’s also a reason why Harry doesn’t give two shits if they’re fighting. Meanwhile, Harry acts like it’s the end of the fucking world when he’s fighting with Ron. Harry could literally take her or leave her. It probably wouldn’t even bother him if he never spoke to her again.

Now, I don’t need my inbox spammed with pro-Hermione shit or to tell me I’m wrong. I don’t care. This is my opinion and I was asked for my opinion. Go praise Hermione to someone else. I don’t care to read it.

I watched a lot of the movies listed here when I was a kid. I didn't see the way women were being belittled or treated like token pieces when I was young. I only took away the best parts of those characters.

Rhonda from Tremors? A young female scientist working on her own!

Gwen DiMarco? Funny, tough, scared out of her mind but still there!

*There is a scene in The Mummy when the two groups reach Hamunaptra. A man says, "They are led by a woman. What does a woman know?" It was not until I was well into my adulthood that I realized this was meant to be a dig at her. Growing up, I always thought it was a genuine question. A question uttered with reverence and awe. What does a woman know? We know so many things! Women are able to do so much without ever having to look it up or ask. I took this as a sign of "Yes! Women are mysterious. We hold so much knowledge. We are powerful!"

**Hedda Gabler is a play that stole my breath away. I love every bit of this work. A woman trapped in a marriage she had no desire for. Not because there was another man, but she truly did not want to be married! The self-sabotage, the destructive and toxic qualities that she takes on throughout the play is heart wrenchingly beautiful. I love Hedda's flaws.

If you want to chat about these women, I will talk for days.

i dont really know how to articulate this but its crazy just how many people dont even realize they dont care about female characters. all their faves are men. they never talk about girls without being led into it. and when you try to point this out to them they try to defend themselves that their faves are just the archetypes they like, despite clearly not caring when that same archetype is a woman. like i feel like at a certain point it is your problem with the common denominator if you cant find a single female character to enjoy

The easiest way for me. Besides celebrities.. If we're only mentioning characters. That depends on the fandom. Shows, movies, games and anything else you can think of. So if you're curious about characters I like, just ask me based on fandoms I enjoy. So types varies for me.

Really? You don't like Peaky Blinders? You're probably the only person I know who doesn't like the show.. I know everyone has their opinions, though part if me is slightly judging you for this. Slightly. So hopefully the Peaky movie comes out soon. I'm being impatient about that.

Oh! If you do end up enjoying Vincenzo. There is a a queer character, and a himbo character. Both canonically their respective characters.

Like I said.. If I ever watch war shows or movies, then it's because one of my favorite celebrities is starring in it. And only because of them. If it wasn't for that celebrity, then I probably wouldn't watch war genres.

Sci-fi depends for me. I've always hated Star Wars, Star Trek, and any other scifi genre like those franchises. I think the only scifi show that I have ever truly enjoyed was Orphan Black, interesting plot starring so many strong female characters (another show I can see Rocky maybe enjoying with his girlfriend). So I'm only sometimes in the scifi genre.

That doesn't surprise me. Anything title with, "Once Upon A..." Would usually be retelling fairytale stories in some way or another, or even a whole new fairytale. But that's usually what I have noticed though.

For the shows I can't find on the app channels, I'll try sites before I do try paying for more. If you really do have to pay for the hiTV channel.

Same here. I'm curious about his sexual preferences.. Because we did figure out Rocky, Hyuga and Murayama really easily. Possibly Smoky, maybe Takeshi and whoever else. Except for Cobra. He's the only one. I could imagine him as a switch? Even if he's dominant, I can ever see him as overly dominant. But no submissive either. More equal. So I'm saying he's a switch (like Rocky) who treats his partner equally in sex. But that's all I got for him so far. Why is he so difficult to figure out?!

Like I said.. I'm not completely sure if I'll create yet another character, at least for the High&Low franchise. Since I have a lot of characters in general for other fandoms. But that's besides the point I'm right now.

She would be the fifth character. And based on some pictures that I'd already sent.. If she's a color coded character too, it's either the White Rascals and Rude Boys. Unless I have her be apart of other gangs.

The image of her with blonde hair, black and white clothes. That does make me think of the Rascals. Especially Rocky and Aizawa since the both of the have platinum blond hair all the time. If she is a Rascals, it would be obvious that Rocky would never allow her to be a fighter like the other Rascals (excluding Kizzy). But I do not think I could imagine her as a fighter though. If she was associated with Rascals, either she might be working at one of Rocky's businesses - like Club Heaven. So she could either be a dancer, bartender, waitress, or something like it. I don't know yet. But she is only involved with the Rascals platonically though, no romantic ships with any of them. At least not with Rocky.

If she's a part of the Rude Boys. I'm not sure about that yet. Because I just can't think of her being abandoned but I don't know what I might do for her family yet. Obviously I thought Rude because of the earthly toned clothes which is usually Rude's signature colors. I don't know.

But, regardless of the group, I imagine her involved with food. Maybe not as a foodie like Blue and Orange. But someone who's involved in a culinary arts way. Someone who enjoys cooking and baking. With any baking she does, her specialty is bread and desserts. I have thought... Maybe she works at Itokan with Naomi. Or even a bakery. Something. Because I originally thought if she was associated to Rude in any way, I imagined her living near Nameless City but not in it. And that she's a charitable person always helping looking after whoever she can in the city. I don't know how Rude Boys like it since they always take strong pride in being mostly self reliant. But since she can cook and bake so much food, I would imagine her occasionally being the Nameless and Rude people proper homecooked meals that could feed a lot of them. Especially the children. And sometimes, I would imagine her buying a lot of things for them. Especially the children. Like the clothes, health and hygiene products, sometimes books and toys. I don't know. So I'll say she isn't the typical Rude Boy. But that's what I originally thought.

Blue, Orange and Yamato are foodies. Orange, Cobra and Rocky have been known to enjoy sweet foods - Rocky's snack is mainly the candy though. But still. I imagined her being skilled with culinary food work.

So various shades of pinks and purples. Which is fine if you use any of the pink colors, just avoid the strawberry pinks for Strawberry Girls in my opinion. But yeah. Oya's primary color is dark blue mixed in with a medium and lighter blues too. Like cobalt blue, navy blue, indigo blue and even shades of azure blues from what I've noticed as their colors.

I know how that is. People judge me based on my appearance so I will understand how that is for Yui.. Because as a grown woman, I'm really a short woman with baby faced features since I am chubby. Like chibi characters. So people assume I'm younger than my actual age even if I'm usually older than them. People never take me seriously either. So I know the feeling all too well by now. Though if the person who really does harass me is a guy, just him in the groin until they stop anything they're doing. Them being in pain makes me feel so much better then it actually should though. So I might be a sadist in those situations.

So I can get automatically defensive because I always assume that all these people can't take me seriously because of my appearance even if that's not always the case though. Because I'm always coddled by a lot of people all the time, since the day I was born. And I really hate it.

So I know the feeling.

Yes! Orange and Yui are the dualistic traits to the fire element. Orange is the positive aspects of fire, Yui's the negative aspects of fire in a lot of ways. Orange's the warmth of fire, Yui's the destruction of fire. And everything else like that. But Orange is definitely that type of person.. The only time you would ever see a completely different side to her is if you have done something to push her in that direction. Like Kuryu. So it usually takes a while to ever get her angry about anything is how I see it. She's rarely ever pushed in that direction though. So it's fine.

Fire sustains and consumes. Warmth or destruction. Enough fire may keep you warm on a cold day, but too much fire would just burn you.

Apparently Cobra has an attraction to fire type women then.

Obviously. I think there isn't an original character who I could see ever hating Naomi in any way. She's the only tolerable female character, at least besides Kizzy (sometimes). Kizzy's a completely different story.

Naomi always knows that Orange cheers up Cobra whenever they are together, romantically or platonically. They just don't seem to admit a lot of their feelings to each other (if they're not dating yet) in this very situation as Yamato and Naomi. But a lot less bickering than them.

But here's the question. Which one of those boys, Yamato or Noboru, is willing to be attacked by a girl they are trying to carrying away from Cobra and Murayama. Well.. Murayama. Because this is Murayama.

"yui’s a lil argumentative with rocky and the rascals because their whole deal leans on her personal sensitivity about people assuming she’s weak. shizuka sees it for what it is though: protecting the people you care about because you care about them, not because you think they’re weak." That is my complete dualistic mindset of the White Rascals, especially when they were first introduced as being so protective of the women and girls (along with any weaker people too).

I've known my fair share of superstitious person who hated the more supernatural horror and thriller genres because they were afraid that those creatures would be brought into their lives. It's so funny to me. Maybe because I'm not some superstitious person at all, I have never been a superstitious about anything in my life before. That's just me.

Yui and Shizuka are basically Mikey and Draken. Kinda.

i don’t think oshiage’s crush was as serious as junko’s. i think she liked murayama, but it was probably very aesthetic, since she couldn’t even get him a gift he would like. (still so mad about the weapons). so i think she would move on, respect murayama choosing someone else. but junko’s going to be a bitch about it. judge the girl’s clothes and looks, and criticise them, and probably try to drag the other strawberries into it. the other girls aren’t as serious about it, but junko is their leader. naomi’s gonna whap her on the head with a newspaper for all the shit-talking.

i was originally planning on naming yui ‘sakura’, but then decided against it. so it became her surname instead.

i also can’t see cobra as overly dominant, but still kind of. more guiding, as opposed to bossy. where murayama is high energy, i could see cobra as more lax, slower but still passionate. idk, i’m still trying to figure him out too.

that first image with the blonde hair and the black and white clothing was definitely giving rascals vibes. and i think her as the bartender would be an interesting twist. and would give more insight to the going’s on in club heaven that we didn’t really get to see. like when miho was staying there, rocky vs jesse, club heaven’s destruction. plus, more koo and kizzykaito. she could be another sister figure to rocky, or one of the other rascals.

her 3rd and last pics definitely fit the rude boys aesthetic. the grunginess is very nameless city chic. i think it’d be cool for her to be situated in sannoh more, but favourable to nameless and the rude boys. if she runs a bakery in sannoh, i could maybe see her being close with other shop owners and asking for the food stuff they’d usually throw out (even though it’s still good), so she could give it to the nameless citizens.

funnily enough, i’ve found pictures of yui and hinami’s faceclaims repping the strawberries colours. i’ll have to message them to you.

orange is the hearth, yui is the housefire; the warmth and the destruction. cobra helping yui out with her defensive issues is like taming a bonfire into a candle flame, still has the risk of getting burned or starting a bigger fire, but for now a warm light. also small.

i’m curious to how the all the sannoh guys would react to seeing orange finally snap, because they’re so used to her warm personality, so the whitehot anger is … very different.

you can’t hate naomi! she’s great! yui and kizzy is something i want to put some thought into. because kizzy is a rascal and upholds their ideals, but she’s also a girl. and girls protecting girls is different than when guys do it (in yui’s mind at least). i do think they’d have an interesting dynamic. meanwhile shizuka and kaito would just be chilling out.

they’re playing rock-paper-scissors. or noboru is jumping in first like ‘i’ll get murayama’ and yamato’s like ‘gdi!’ because grabbing a pissed off yui is like grabbing a feral cat. but also yamato has like a full foot of height difference on yui. just scoop her.

cobra (and shizuka) eventually gets through to yui that when he steps in to protect her, it’s because he cares about her, not that he thinks she can’t handle herself. it just takes a while because she’s got her walls all built up.

shizuka is very superstitious. she’s like ‘you can’t think or talk about semons because then they’ll show up and mess with your life’ and yui is like ‘… that’s so stupid’. shizuka absolutely knows all the scary urban legends so she can avoid any scary situations.

yui and shizuka are very mikey and draken coded. yui’s not as extreme as mikey though, albeit she would probably easily fit into the sano family. short, fiery, strong-willed, into blondes (i see u emma). shizuka is probably more chill than draken.

singing your heart out in karaoke. it's this rare sense of comfort when you are not afraid of acting silly and receiving weird looks; it's about never being called 'too much' or 'over the top', it's about knowing that you are perfectly fine the way you are, knowing that you are enough, knowing that any form of you will be accepted and loved.

('why i can't be somewhere in the middle?!' you lash out in frustration. 'i'm either too much or i'm not enough why can't i be just-just..' you trail off, unsure of the ending. 'ugh.'

'just what?' seungkwan asks. he was silent during your rant, listening closely but not scheming in. 'no more self-doubt, dear, only confidence in your capabilities. and you are perfectly capable.')

seungkwan is someone who joins you in any of your antics; when you suddenly start acting like you're in the movie - he instantly plays along, when you want to dance under the rain - he's spinning you in circles and hums some tune, when you feel like screaming - he takes you somewhere far and lets out all frustrations with you.

('my fort is better,' you proclaim proudly, giggling when seungkwan huffs dramatically. 'don't be a sore loser!'

'we need an opinion of a third person or else it's not fair.' he quickly takes pictures of both of your forts and sends it into the group chat, asking which one is better. 'loser cleans the bathroom whole month and i'm definitely not doing it!')

he is the soft hum of your favorite song, he is a bubbly laughter that lights up your mood, he is a steady hand to hold on to when you need support; seungkwan is many things but above them all he is loud. Loud in the way he proclaims his love to you ('i will go to the roof right now and shout 'i love you' from there if you don't believe me!'), loud in the way he shows that he cares ('where is your hat? and scarf? don't make me go all mother hen on you, you know i will!'), loud in the way he is not ashamed to let everyone know that you two are together and that he is so, so proud to have you.

('you look very..proud,' you comment, sliding to the seat next to your boyfriend. seungkwan's hand wraps around your shoulders and he quickly kisses your temple, ignoring whistling from the boys. 'wanna share why?'

'i'm just so proud that you are with me,' he answers honestly, grinning. 'everyone here loved you, boys came up to me to say how nice you are and i'm just- really happy. and proud.' he smiles and squeezes your shoulder: 'i knew they would love you.' but then his face changes and he adds: 'but they can't love you too much cause competing with my friend for you is not ideal-'

seungkwan goes into relationships all in, treats them like his most important solo project on which succeeding is the only option. he is serious, diligent and although he usually tries to laugh his efforts off, he does try to be the best for you. he's doing it all, he searches on google the best gift ideas, checks reviews of new places, asks his friends for an advice, reads forums - all to be able to give you the best experience. he is shy inside but tries to come off as confident as possible and with you he grows, matures into someone he's really proud of.

dating seungkwan feels like a car ride with windows down: sometimes wind gets too strong but that doesn't deter the happiness and freedom you feel in your chest. you know that we are just tiny humans but seungkwan makes you feel like you are so much more, like you are moon and sun and all of the stars; he makes you feel like living is best when it's done loudly.

For missions 😔 and I wondered since Rouge is the only friendly one of the team Dark that actually is seem attending parties and stuff with who she would spend free fun time as girl time quality and the only one who crosses my mind is Amy also talking about Amy i know Cream might look like her best friend (sonic and tails style) but given she is even younger than Tails, she actually has a mom and lives with that mom and probably that mom wouldn't want her little girl to be in unnecessary danger and also spend more time with her... And then Blaze is a kick ass girl but she is a princess from other dimension with a lot of responsibilities... I don't know, to me it makes more sense that Rouge and Amy would spend more girl time together than with the other 2 🤷

Things i saw in the last games that increase this mindset: in Sonic forces the only female characters we see are Rouge and Amy and in that last racing game i heard voice clips of Amy calling rouge Girlfriend and saying : "where's the Rouge i know and I love" OMG Rouge! How many people told you that they love you! Amy is first 🥺🤭

Another thing they are the principal girls that are shipped with Shadow, this not a coincidence 😂😂 there's a reason Shadow is rival of both knuckles and Sonic I'm just saying 🙂

Also they kind of remind me of some Anime girl friendships, the one i recall right now is Lucy and Cana from fairy tail don't you think?

And I want to praise the evolution they had in the comics, in other posts i showed examples of they antagonizing each other but finally they saw their wrong ways and compensate us with this kind of interaction at their best if their personalities

Rouge all physical friendly with Amy hooking arms and fighting alongside her and Rouge appreciating her and telling shadow she had to rely in other hedgehog this time 👌👌👌

The two queens calming down their brothers and preventing them to fight their respective boyfriend 😏😏😏😏😏😏 👌👌👌👌 interpret that as you wish fellas 🤭🤭🤭

And this!!👆👆👆 THEY WORK GREAT TOGETHER, fighting together i love it as much as I love when Rouge teams up with Knuckles!😭👌

But like... Seriously they deserve to have quality girlfriend time together, i love them both so much 🥰🥰🥰, if they both appear in the third movie I'm sure they will want to hang out as the only furry alien residents in earth 😁😁

And a curious information i found... Turns out that at the beginning of Sonic Heroes development Rouge was going to be originally part of the team Rose 😱😱😱 but well, it turned out just fine anyway.

Ariel for the character ask

I assume this means Ariel in Disney's The Little Mermaid, not Ariel in The Tempest. I hope I'm right.

Favorite thing about them: She's just an all-around likable heroine. Lively, warm, fun-loving, strong-willed, passionate, flawed in relatable ways, and sympathetic in her longing to explore a new world (which can be viewed through several different layers of applicability – from a teenager longing to enter the adult world, to a young woman seeking freedom from patriarchal oppression, to a young LGBT+ person seeking a life where they can be their authentic self, to an open-minded person defying their family's prejudice against another culture, and probably more), as well as her complex relationship with her loving yet controlling father. And of course her singing voice, courtesy of Jodi Benson, is outstanding.

Least favorite thing about them: Her deal with Ursula, not only because it's foolish and nearly results in Ursula taking over the sea kingdom (although I don't blame Ariel for not predicting that Ursula would use her to bait Triton into sacrificing himself), but because it's selfish – choosing to leave her father and her sisters forever without even saying goodbye. Now I don't hold it against her. She's an impulsive teen, she's in love, she's deeply hurt by her father destroying all her human treasures, and this is the only way she sees to be her true self and live a life of her own choosing. Nor do I find fault with her choice to become human, just the circumstances. But it's still a mistake, and while she does apologize to her father when he comes to save her from Ursula, it's brief and quickly overshadowed by Triton's self-sacrifice for her.

Random headcanon: She was the only single birth of Triton and Athena's daughters. Her sisters are all sets of twins or triplets. This explains why none of them are married yet or seem much older than she is, even though she's the youngest of seven.

Unpopular opinion: While I understand all the popular feminist criticism aimed at her, I can't bring myself to agree with it. I wish people would learn about Howard Ashman, and how much of himself he put into Ariel, before they label her a "whiny brat" who "sells her soul for a man" and who "should have died like Andersen's mermaid to show what happens when you sacrifice everything for lust." Knowing that the movie's lyricist was a gay man living in the middle of the AIDS crisis, which would claim his life two years later, and that he infused Ariel's character with his own feelings of alienation and longing for freedom to live and love as he chose (even her voice actress Jodi Benson has confirmed that Ariel is Ashman in many ways), really makes you view her in a new light. So does knowing that Andersen's original story has much the same subtext: Andersen was bisexual, and the tale was evidently inspired by his own "fish out of water" feelings and his unrequited love for another man. And just because Andersen, writing in the 19th century, viewed a self-sacrificial death and heavenly reward as the only possible "happy" ending for someone like him his mermaid, why shouldn't a modern adaptation offer more hope and give Ariel an earthly happy ending? Now of course Ariel isn't a gay man, she's a straight girl, and it is fair to question the message her story sends to girls, since any other message is only subtext. But it's still worthwhile to know the story's entire context, and question whether your critiques of her character seem to say "Misfits should suck it up and stay in their place" or not.

His life took turns Aaron never expected. It’s not the “Oh, mh, well that was unexpected”-type of turns, I talk about the “God played Cards Against Humanity with angels and decided to make it happen for someone”-type. But looking back he would not want to change a thing.

After Haley and Beth he was convinced that God, the Universe, something out there shared the opinion that romantic love isn’t the right thing for him and Aaron accepted that fact. Even more when he and Jack went into witness protection. I mean, when you are worried about the life of your family being in danger because of a stalker, you don’t think about the beautiful neighbor, who lives next door, right? Right?

Well, without going into too much detail, Hotch did think about her and she about him and vice versa. Everything went good until Aaron received the message that the team found the stalker and that it was safe to come back. He decided to come clean to his girlfriend. They talked about the possibility of moving back to Quantico.

In the end they decided in favor of the move, the final argument was the surprising announcement of her being pregnant. Hotch wants to raise their youngest where his and Jack’s roots are located. But he decides against taking a position at the BAU, instead taking a desk job in order to be more at home. He also has the opportunity to work from home after little (Y/N) was born and continues to do so until she is old enough to go to Kindergarten. Even then he takes two days the week where he stays home. Aaron learned from his decisions and mistakes he made in the past and wants to live up to them and be a better father and husband than before.

And Hotch keeps it to this day, six years later. It’s (Y/N)’s first day of school, while Jack just graduated high school and goes off to college in a few weeks. Even though they have an age gap from twelve and a half years, their parents are sure there are no other siblings with such a strong bond.

Ever since his baby sister’s birth Jack is her biggest supporter, protector and friend. Her first word was his name, though it was more of a “ACK!”, but that’s the best nickname he ever got. As soon as (Y/N) was old enough to comprehend the concept of movies, he introduced her to Star Wars. Since then lightsaber wars out of cardboard pipes are not uncommon. Last Halloween they even dressed up as Chewbakka and Han Solo. You get three guesses on who was who.

“JACK!” (Y/N) runs into her big brother’s room with an excited expression on her face. “Daddy promised to buy me a real lightsaber after I read ten books! With lights and sounds and all! Isn’t that cool?” Jack smiles. Aaron did a similar thing with him. For a certain amount of books he got a reward they discussed beforehand. This way he felt motivated to read and improved writing and reading skills.

“This is awesome. I think that means we have to go book shopping together, what do you think?” (Y/N) is not only the cool kid that has an older brother, she is also the cool kid, whose older brother has a drivers license, a car and a part time job. She nods with big eyes, speechless, because the offer sounds like heaven to her. Getting books and one on one time with Jack after he was really busy with school for weeks? This has to be heaven.

“Ok, then you put your outside clothes on and I’ll tell Dad about our plan.” At that the little girl rushes to her room, not wanting to waste any more time. Jack makes his way down to the kitchen, where Aaron wipes the table from lunch down.

“Dad, I take (Y/N) to this bookstore in DC and we’ll probably go eat ice cream after that. Is that alright?” Hotch looks up at his son. It still feels like yesterday as he told Haley that Gideon is a big no as a baby name. Now he is all grown up and just a few weeks away from the next big chapter in his life.

“Of course, just let me get my wall-” Jack cuts him off. “No need, I want to use this as a kind of goodbye thing. At least until Thanksgiving.” Aaron knows what he means. It’s his last day before he goes off to college and just a couple more until the first classes begin. The family still hasn’t told their youngest exactly what’s going on. Else she would refuse to go to school and go on with her day, insisting on using all the time they have until Jack drives off.

Two hours later the siblings leave the bookstore, both of them having a bag in their hands. Of course Jack's heavier, but both he and the cashier assured (Y/N) that they lift the same amount of weight.

“Uncle Spence will be excited when I tell him that I read Harry Potter, he told me so many good things about it”, the girl gushes. Jack nods, indicating that he is listening. Of course they also picked books that are not that advanced. Still, no sister of his shall grow up without knowing the beauty of the wizarding world. Also, secretly he is hoping for her to turn out as nerdy as he is so they get more things to talk about. His next step is superheroes, especially the Marvel ones.

They converse until they get to an ice cream parlor and order both their usuals. “Do you think you are ready for me to tell you something important?” The older one asks after they sit down at a table. (Y/N) nods, confusion taking over her face.

“Uhm, you know how I graduated from high school? I’m done with school, but I want to get a degree, but for that I have to go to college. It’s pretty far away so I can’t come home for a few months. But I’m back home when Thanksgiving is and also for Christmas.” It doesn’t matter what Jack says, a sad frown has formed on the little one’s face. “Oh. And after Christmas, will you leave again?” He nods and explains when he is off from college and when not.

“We can always skype and write letters. How does that sound? And when you get your first phone, we can even text.” That (Y/N) lights up a bit. For her first year of school she got a stationary set and is eager to use it to this day.

“I’m going to miss you so much”, she says hugging her big brother. Jack pats her back. “I’ll miss you, too.”

The goodbye the next day is a heartfelt matter. Everybody cries, especially (Y/N). She can’t fathom a scenario where her brother isn’t there for her all the time.

The following weeks are also hard for the family. The youngest refuses to sleep alone for the first three days after Jack’s leave. She is more closed off and mainly just does her school work or reads the books he bought for her. By the time Thanksgiving is only away for another two weeks, (Y/N) has read through all of them at least two times.

Her father already ordered the lightsaber he promised her. Unfortunately shipping takes several months, so the little girl still has to wait patiently for her reward to arrive. In the meantime she works on getting the next and she is already pretty close to the comic book collection she wants.

“Sweetheart, can you set the table, please? Your Mom will be here soon from grocery shopping and she will need help getting them from the car into the house”, Hotch calls for his daughter while stirring in a pot.

The little girl nods, putting her stationary set and pens aside to do as her father asked. She is in the middle of answering her brother’s last letter, telling him that she is now the one that usually has to read aloud for the class because of her advanced skill for a first grader.

Just as she sets the last piece of silverware down the doorbell rings. “Sweetie, can you please open it? This should be your mother.” Happily (Y/N) runs up and turns the door knob. Over the last few months she hit a small growing spurt and is finally tall enough to reach it without standing on her tippy toes.

“Mo-” She nearly chokes on her own saliva. The one at the door is definitely not her mother. “JACK!” (Y/N) runs up to him and jumps onto his leg. “Hey Princess. I thought now that you read your books, we need to hold the most amazing lightsaber fight in history.” With a mischievous smile he pulls two from his back, giving one to his baby sister.

It is the most epic fight in history between an elementary schooler and a college boy. They can only be stopped by their parents announcing that it is a tie between both of them and that they have to sit down, else the food gets cold.

The following weeks mostly consist of (Y/N)’s joyous laughs and cuddling with her big brother. She even insists on him sleeping with her in her much smaller bed. On his last night before going back to college, the little girl turns to him in the middle of watching her favorite movie in the living room.

“Do you promise not to forget me when you are away? Because I alway think about you and tell my friends so much about you. I told them you are a hero, my hero, just like Daddy. They wanna meet you because of that.” Jack has to hold back tears at her statement.

“I also think of you so much. All of my friends at college are pretty jealous of me having such a sweet baby sister. Maybe one time you can visit me and I can introduce you to them.” The thought of that makes (Y/N) smile and is a little consolation to the thought of her brother leaving again.

Aaron watches the interaction going down, happy to see the strong bond between his children, despite their age gap. This is nothing like he and Sean were and that is a relief for him and the worries he had in the beginning. It is a sign that he did do some things right as a father.
