Currently thinking about the symbolism of orange with Sasha’s character. How it’s a metaphor present both in Sasha’s mind and lab/office of having a very cold exterior(black/white or greys and blues) and having the smallest pop of color in the interior specifically with the color orange.

The first obvious appearance of this is in his level. When he pops out of the trapdoor/hatch in his mind there’s orange light streaming out from wherever that portal leads to deer within. This is then mirrored in the sequel seen in his office, which has the same cube design with geometric framing. The general feel of the lab is cold and almost inhuman in a way. There’s no windows and all the light is artificial. But the small corner of his office is brightly lit and warm on the inside. And the couch and pillows on top are orange along with bits of the rug on the floor.

It’s also in his outfit. The dark pants, shoes, gloves, glasses and coat cover up the sweater he’s wearing that striped with tans and browns, earthy colors and a less saturated orange. Three places, that’s a pattern.

Then there’s the detail of where the orange is, in comfortable things. It’s the surrounding light for wherever Sasha’s hanging out when chaos is absolutely rocking his entire world. It’s in his turtleneck sweater, something you usually wear to combat cold. It’s in the couch cushions and pillows, something you usually interact with to talk a break or rest in.

It’s such an obvious metaphor. Sasha is such an intimidating figure initially, cold and detached from the world and others. But then you actually spend a little time with him and he’s actually a dork who cares a lot about the people he’s close with. The most glaring time is when he calls Lili ‘darling’ that one time in RoR, completely unprompted. For most the jet ride he’s barely acknowledging that she’s crying her eyes out and mostly has the air of “don’t make me turn this car around.” But then just out of nowhere when he gets good news about Truman’s location he just pulls out the “I think we might know where he is, darling” while clearly putting on the softest tone he can most definitely but imitating Milla. And it just shows that he’s been aware the entire time and just saying something now while trying so hard to be comforting is so much. Fantastic characterization.

I love all the small details in this series, even with something like color and where it appears and how that links up with the character themselves. Just wow. I love the writing here.

What is my tea even going to taste like?

Ok, so I can't plant like...actual tea, or ginger, or cinnamon, or anise, or cloves. And I don't like chamomile, echinecia or lavender.

So what kind of tea can I garden?

My main ingredient is gonna be New Jersey Tea. Fresh, this tastes like wintergreen which...no thanks. BUT dried, which is the main way I would use it, it's supposed to taste like black tea, but kind of smokey with hints of cinnamon and orange. So far so good.

Anise Hysop is meant to taste like mint with anise (licorice) notes.

Geum tastes like cloves and a little bit like cinnamon.

Rugosa roses have the most flavor of all the rose hips, supposedly, and taste lightly floral and also like citrus.

Lemongrass tastes like mild citrus with a hint of ginger.

Safflower: mellow, slightly nutty taste, but makes your tea pretty and adds a bit of base-note flavor.

Bee Balm: like a particularly refreshing mix of mint, basil and oregano.

Honeysuckle: Ok, so they say Japanese honeysuckle is the kind you ought to make tea out of for the best flavor. But it's wildly invasive, and we have highly scented native varieties that work with my color scheme, so we'll be going with those. I've read that it actually tastes like a floral-leaning green tea with sweet aftertaste, and some people say there's hints of vanilla in there, to.

I'm also hoping to put some Canadian wild ginger into the garden once it establishes- but it's a very sunny spot, so I have to wait for the other plants to establish well enough to bring this plant the shade it needs. This is supposed to taste a lot like tropical ginger, but without the spicy notes. (Note that this plant shouldn't be straight up eaten. It does contain toxins if you're gonna nosh it instead of briefly soaking it in water. Don't forage something and then get mad at me.)

All in all, I feel like it's going to be a fun experiment to play with the recipe combining these elements into a delicious tea. But the flavors are all there to make this super tasty.

I’ve noticed that decent amount of Sasha fanart has this polarity to it.

Most of the art of him is either distinguished, bold and/or intimidating. He’s here, he has presence, and he’s going to be your greatest ally or your greatest adversary. And then there’s the other type of fanart that kinda looks like someone just dumped a bucket of water on him. The best term I can come up with is patheticness? Where you just want to just pat him on the shoulder with a “you’ll be alright.” It’s hard to describe but I see it all the time.

I like both honestly, all power to you artists!

This polarity also reflects how is actually is in the games, being introduced as this badass, possibly evil scientist character and then you spend some time with him and look at RoR and he’s actually just a massive dork with a committed aesthetic who’s willing to get into debates with children over geometry and the conviction of scientific discovery.
