Sticker Cutter Research
I was looking into getting a sticker cutting machine, and I decided to start by looking into cricut which is a well known brand. I had a look at what models they had than their feature etc, but what I was most concerned about was their software. Printer companies like to lock you into a defacto subscription to support hardware you don't really own, and as I was to discover, cricut are operating in a similar way.
The cricut software is online-only*. To cut your own designs you need to use their software to upload your art to their server. There's no way to cut a new design without a logged-in cricut account and an internet connection. At one point in 2021 they flirted with limiting free accounts to 20 uploads/month but backed down after huge community backlash, as far as I can tell.
The incident spawned several community efforts to write open-source firmware for cricut hardware. Some efforts were successful for specific models/serial numbers, but require cracking open the case and hooking in to the debug contacts to flash the chip; not exactly widely accessible. Another project sought to create a python cricut server you can run locally, and then divert the app's calls to the server to your local one.
I restarted my search, this time beginning with looking for extant open-source software for driving cutters, and found this project, which looks a little awkward to use, but functional. They list a bunch of cutter hardwares and whether they're compatible or not. Of those, I recognised the sihouette brand name from other artists talking about them.
I downloaded the silhouette software to try like I did w the cricut software, and immediately it was notable that it didn't try to connect to the internet at all. It's a bit clunky, in that way printer and scanner software tends to be, but I honestly greatly preferred using it to cricut's sluggish electron app⁺. Their software has a few paid tiers above the free one, adding stuff like sgv import/export/and reading cut settings from a barcode on the input material. They're one-off payments, and seem reasonable to me.
This is not so much a review, as sharing some of the research I've done. I haven't yet used either a cricut or a silhouette, and I haven't researched other brands either. But I wanted to talk about this research because to me, cricut's aggressively online nature is a red flag. Software that must connect to a server to run is software that runs only at the whim of the server owner (and only as long as it's profitable to keep the server up). And if that software is the only thing that will make your several hundred dollars worth of plastic and (cheap, according to a teardown I read) servos run, then you have no guarantee you'll be able to run it in the future.
Do you use a desktop cnc cutter? What has your experience been like with the hardware and software? Do you have any experience from home printers with good print quality and user-refillable ink cartridges?
* Cricut's app tried to connect to more than 14 different addresses, including facebook, youtube, google analytics, datadoghq.com, and launchdarkly.com. Launch Darkly are a service provider that help software companies do a whole bunch of things I'm coming to despise, for example, they offer infrastructure for serving different features to different demographics and comparing results to control groups. You know how at various times you've gotten wildly different numbers of ads than your friends on instagram? They were using techniques like this to work out how many ads they could show without affecting their pickup/engagement rates. Scummy stuff.
⁺ Electron apps are web-pages pretending to be applications. They use heaps of ram, tend to have very poor performance, and encourage frustrating UI design that doesn't follow OS conventions. Discord's app is a notable example of an Electron app

One last store update! After this I will begin sending emails to a subscriber list.
You can input your email of choice for my shop newsletter into this google form here.
A quick summary of some things:
I was unable to finish orders by printing their shipping labels by today, despite what I said last week, because of health issues that had to be addressed instead.
More of my product order was messed up, had enough items to fulfill every order but I’ve been left with ZERO extra stock on a couple items to put into my shop after.
I got enough interest in the Halloween keychains and stickers so I will be making them.
Full explanations below ^^
I have now packed every single order and reviewed all of their contents. However I was unable to send them out today as at some point last week I became very unwell. I’ve been going downhill for a while but it has never gotten to this degree this fast before. I still don’t really know what caused it and so I had been unable to pack over the weekend and couldn’t get all the shipping labels printed for them today.
I will be printing these labels out and taking chunks of the orders to the post office over the next few days.
But the more I’d packed the more I’d realized more of my product order had been messed up. I had ordered extras of everything and yet some of the products that I ordered just BARELY fulfilled every order — I had to use some of the initial samples to fulfill every order but rest assured they are the exact same as the products in size and quality. I have exactly ZERO of some products left over for shop stock when I’d ordered 10-15 extra of every item (as well as TOO MANY of some less popular products that didn’t need all these extras) which sadly means a few items will not be in stock when I open the store back up. I may put discounts on the unwanted extras I received because of this.
While I would expect by default to receive the products in the quantity that I ordered, I also understand that I ordered hundreds of products all in one order, and that is only one order that is being fulfilled out of the many other orders they get daily. I myself did not count out every single product to check because of the sheer amount of everything that was ordered — I had ordered over 500 keychains alone to fulfill the preorders and the entire order has taken up a full room when all spread out. But I still did not count beforehand and would only find out once I’d run out of a certain product, so I accept this is partly my responsibility too. This should not happen again as I never expect to make an order this big again, I had only done this for shop startup, and I will be making another order to restock these products. But it’s still sad it happened.
I apologize for this and I appreciate all of your patience once again. I am explaining all of this as I believe you are owed information about what is going on seeing as you’ve put money into this, and I myself said they would all be sent out by Monday. I just want to be transparent ^^
And one last thing — many of you wanted Halloween merchandise, so I will be moving forward with that! (I’ve decided they will not be glow in the dark though, as I’d have to make every vibrant color instead transparent for the glow to come through, and I believe the designs would suffer too much without these colors)
I have ordered from this manufacturer multiple times before over the years and they’ve always gotten it right with more reasonably-sized orders, so I am confident these will not have the same problems as this preorders period has.
Thank you again very much for your support and understanding up to this point!! <3

so this hasn't happened in like a year
Tumblr media Tumblr media
[ID: a tweet from me saying that my art has been stolen with screenshots of the art they stole badly cropped out and put on a tshirt with text that says 'yes, darling? do you need something?' and another screenshot of the store page. next to it is a screenshot of my original Goostarion artwork I posted to Tumblr and Twitter 6 days ago.]
someone stole my art. again. please never buy from tshirt shops like this on etsy. they are 100% stolen fanart and stolen official art. my own goostarion artwork as a sticker is one of the first results on etsy when you search for baldur's gate (which, thank you guys so much for that) and so perhaps because i put him on etsy you might see the tshirt and also think it's mine without checking the shop name. but it's not. and multiple people have the shirt in their basket. if an artist is selling their own work as a shirt it will be in their own shop, or perhaps in a redbubble/teespring shop under the same name. and it won't be a badly cropped version of their art with their watermark painted over.
Tumblr media
[ID: a screenshot of the shop selling stolen art, SweetieBestieStore on Etsy. They have had 85 sales, 12 reviews with an average of 5 stars, the listing for the shirt with the art they stole from me says '3 people have this in their basket'. There is also stolen art by artists I tracked down using Google's Reverse Image Seacher they are grimmsever on Twitter, BryeArt on RedBubble and twistedlonewolf on Twitter. please support the actual original artists. their art has all been cropped, backgrounds erased and/or text placed next to it.]
i've repoted the listing, we'll see if etsy does anything. no one else can report it for copyright other than the person who owns the copyright so. we'll see if anything comes of that. i've reported stuff on other websites before like wish and amazon and got them taken down, but never etsy before so i don't know how quickly they work on these things or what the response could be. i have no idea if this post will reach any of the people who have this shirt in their basket on etsy, anyone who's scrolled past items like these on etsy, but please don't support shops like these.
Tumblr media
[ID: a screenshot of my own Etsy shop 'emptymasks' where I have search for 'baldurs gate' within my own shop to show only my baldur's gate items, you can see my original artwork for goostarion which i have been selling as a sticker this past week since i drew him.]
And if you want Goostarion, you can just buy him as a sticker off my own shop. Or you could reblog the original post I made of the artwork here.
Ugh this isn't what I wanted to wake up too. I really hope no one buys anything more from their page.

Reviewing various Dofus-related merch without buying the merch in question [PART 1]
This post will not go into details on the Dofus novels, which were already discussed, and most of which are not buyable on the Ankama website, or available digitally anywhere on the internet (PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE SCAN OR PHOTOGRAPH THEM AND SEND THEM TO ME I PROMISE TO BE NORMAL AND——)
But it will go into another type of book (that I would like to solicit the scans/HD photos of, from you, dear followers) today: The Dofus Activity books for kids (which are, weirdly, easier to get, considering all of them are on the Ankama store? Weird.)
Just like in the case with the Dofus novels, all info here will be both useless and redundant, as well as mostly taken from Otakia.
Ton Aventure à Dessiner
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
It's a book you draw in. Otakia has only 2 scanned images, used for review purposes, and I decided to try my hand at this one, because I have trouble drawing Kerubim:
Tumblr media
Here is my result:
Tumblr media
I actually find the way this book explains his head pretty helpful!
Ton Livre de Stickers
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
It's a sticker book. It sure is stickery, however, the interesting part is that googling it revealed several more sticker books, which don't seem to be available on Ankama's site:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
We live in a society.
Le Donjon Maudit - L'album dont tu es le héros
Tumblr media
According to Otakia, and I quote, "Within the story of this book Kerubim, Simone and Joris are trapped in a magical dungeon by going to the Festival of Trools and Legends. If they fail to disarm the traps and find the treasure, they will spend the rest of their lives in this sinister place. Despite the danger, Joris is enthusiastic and sees the opportunity to prove to his Papycha that he is also a true catventurer."
Images of what the book is like, also taken from Otakia + machine translations of what is said in these pages:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The reader solves puzzles in a choose-your-own-adventure style, and the whole book is structured kinda like an episode. Can you feel the pain I feel knowing I'll never read any of these goddamn books?? 😭 i guess you win some you lose some. this is my cosmic punishment for owning five gravity falls books.
Ton Livre d'activités
Tumblr media
This is kind of like the last book, but without the plot or the cool choose your own adventure thing.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Also there's this activity book, but ngl, I can't find any screenshots/scans of its pages in reviews, so rip bozo.

🪴 Potted plant emoji review 🪴
Tumblr media
Apple: This plant grows gracefully in this beige pot made out of terracotta. The textures of the soil are harmonizing beautifully and so are the green shades of green of the leafs! 8.5/10 Maybe they are a baby.
Tumblr media
Google: Planted in a red round pot, this emoji shows a different type of plant, which honestly is a nice breath of fresh air. 7/10
Tumblr media
Samsung: I think the colour scheme works fairly well in this type of plant! Could use some water to grown them more and more. The pot is shaded confusingly, like it’s going back and forth, left to right. 7/10 love the amount of leafs.
Tumblr media
Microsoft: I won’t hate these buddies. It reminds of a Children book. Do you know the kind of books our teachers used to give for vacation? This emoji is just as nostalgic as them. I think it’s a fairly simple sprout. 5/10
Tumblr media
WhatsApp: Curious fact: I have dumbcanes at my house. I absolutely adore this emoji. Because the details are on point and the shading is just incredible. I have heard they are slightly toxic, which creeps me a little bit. 10/10 amazing emoji.
Tumblr media
Twitter: Frankly. I love the shades of green that are manipulated to create this emoji. The cell shading makes me feel so-so but sometimes, you got to agree that some simple emojis can look really nice. 7/10 Google’s Look-alike?
Tumblr media
Facebook: This emoji is absolutely ADORABLE. They are shaped like hearts. I would give this plant to my SO. These are blessed and I hope they grow until they become an absolutely SHOCKING tree. 11/10 For the win.
Tumblr media
Twitter emoji stickers: love the pot’s texture. It looks like a generic 3d model that’s been used on Nintendo switch video games. These are cute and I hope they grow amazingly. 9/10 Love the shading and the smooth feelings.
Tumblr media
Joypixels: Sure, there were emojis with a LOT of leafs, but this one took it a little too much. Anyways what’s bad about it? I think the stem is a little gross (I don’t mean disgusting) I like the shape of the leafs as they feel smooth and classy. 7/10 Would put these on my granny’s backyard.
Tumblr media
TossFace: A little baby sprout! This is so cute. 2/10 Everything else is a little…. Uh?
Tumblr media
Emojipedia: I feel like I have to say a lot of Emojipedia emojis since there are so many problems about them that it sort of annoys me since a lot of them look distorted versions of apple emojis. The plant is weirdly simetrical. It’s honestly a little scary because maybe this cursed plant came from a parallel world that every plant grows differently. The details on the leaf are weird, because the lines are a bit too thick. The center bugs me A LOT. It’s disturbing and dark. It’s like a leaf monster that haunts you at your garden at midnight. The pot is looking shiny, but is weirdly placed. 4/10 the soil is ok though.
Tumblr media
Openmoji: A tiny palm tree? 2/10 because it’s as bad as TossFace.
thank you! 💗

Filofax one month update
So, hey! I promised I would make a followup post reviewing my filofax so yeah, here it is!
Tumblr media
I keep my kaweco sport, some tabs, a card with some washitape and pointcards/stickers and it's practical I get it. I divided it in 5 sections.
to do lists
personal notes
journaling
weekly planner
uni notes
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I like it how I arranged it now but I think I'll take out the to do's section cause I mostly use google tasks on my phone, but besides that I use it A LOT and I'm always taking notes.
Now the bad stuff? The quality it's not what I expected for 53 USD, the strap broke and I had to fix it with glue, its ok now but If I paid full price for this (i got it in a sale for 25) I would be so so pissed lol. and have in mind that you cant use A6 refills on this. I bought it super convinced I could but nope anyway that's my fault cause I didnt look into it.
To sum it up. I really liked it and i'll keep looking what works best for me but I should have done more research into it

Made these designs for Tangerine’s tattoos (plus the diesel sticker) for my Tangerine cosplay so thought I’d share them on the off chance they might be useful to anyone, feel free to use for anything! (they're transparent)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I literally just traced over the reference photos and drew/shaded in the details, the sticker image I got off google and edited it to cut out the train and add the text
(For the cosplay I used this temporary tattoo paper, it worked really well!!! Had to resize a couple of them for printing but it didn’t seem to affect the quality much. I found cheaper alternatives on amazon too but this one seemed to have the best reviews, so)

Gone down to Walmart and bought Three packs of toilet paper, 2 iphones and yelled at the poor shaking underpaid 8 year old (child labor laws are abolished now) that the store didn't have any Tesla cable chargers left. Left 22 bad reviews on Walmarts homepage using several slurs and off-topic rants about The Leftists before rage driving my Tesla iphone car (new collaboration) (I still have 25 installments of $1000 left on it) through a red light, causing a head on collision behind me in the intersection. The cops pull me over but they see several of my Back The Blue stickers on my car and give me a thumbs up as they pass by me. I am on my way to the Nail Salon to get the most ugly French tips you have ever seen when my Tesla gives me a gentle chime reminder that I am 49 minutes late for picking up my daughter Haighleyigh from soccer practice. I am furious as I speed through the streets, pissed off that the school didn't call me (they did I have my phone on silent) and I drive my car through the grass towards my daughter at the school. With my daughter in the car, I yell at the teachers I can see about how careless they are and that I should sue. I leave more rude and slurful comments on their homepage while calling the cops on the school (I get the school defunded) and get into my Tesla with my daughter Haighleyigh. I look down to see the chime on my Teslas integrated Ipad touchscreen. I am reminded that Tesla Failed Me. I open my Iphone and pull up Tesla Co. homepage on Google. I start to write a comment, and when I put in a single word hinting at a complaint my Tesla Car ejects me at such a high speed that I die before the sound barrier breaks. I am now dead and there is no one to continue paying off the Tesla Car. The car doors lock my daughter Haighleyigh inside, sealing her in a corporate sarcophagus before driving away. She belongs to Tesla now.

i don't have any new fic for this nov 5 but may i repost a thematically appropriate fic of mine:
right to lose control - a four seasons total landscaping/fantasy bookshop au ft. a splash of November 5 accidental press conference antics, rated E, ~8500 words
preview:
It starts innocently enough. Dean wants to buy new porn, that's all. And a butt plug. Innocent things. Casual purchases for a guy who's recently admitted to himself and everyone else that he's into dudes, so he's free to indulge in the things he'd have shied away from before. No, he's out now. Charlie dragged him to a gay club, and Sam has a pride bumper sticker that Dean hates on principle for ruining his car, but his car's already ruined for being what it is, so.
It's a very regular Thursday afternoon, and Dean's going to buy some things to start exploring a new area of his life, and he's, maybe, a little, excited. Nervous, too, and it all jangles around inside of him, making him itchy and jumpy and twitchy in a way that's got him feeling almost drunk.
The Fantasy Island Adult Store has been down the block from his landscaping business for a while now, and he's been in there before (duh), but the old owner was a major creep, and Dean wasn't interested in being skeeved on while he browsed skeevy porn. But there's a new owner now, and the Google reviews are pretty good. Hey--support local businesses, right? Maybe the guy'll need Dean to mow his lawn, which is a thought that has Dean almost (almost, thanks) nervously giggling to himself as he steps inside.
It's bright, brighter than before, and the long, narrow store has been sectioned off by white shelves, all the better to show off the neon pink dildos, he guesses. Like, that's probably actually the case; that makes sense from a purely logical level and also from the level that has Dean staring at them, knowing full well he's not ready to take that step yet, but also, y'know. Thinking about it.
"Hello. Can I help you?"
Dean missed the person working here because of the dildos, yes, but also because he's in a corner off to the side, surrounded by cardboard boxes. There's dust smudged on his nose, and his hair has fallen over his forehead, and his eyes--a bright, piercing blue--look out from underneath with a steady, almost unblinking gaze.
The guy tilts his head, squints. "Are you okay?"
Right. Words. People use them.
"Um, hi. Yeah, sorry." He clears his throat and opens his hand, has a full second to worry if it's weirdly sweaty as he starts to extend it, has another second to wonder if he could get away with wiping it on his pants at this point, and then it's all over because the guy is shaking his hand, still looking confused. "I'm Dean. Winchester. Over at Winchester Total Landscaping?"
He looks from Dean's eyes to their hands still linked together and back up, and Dean has a full-body panic over whether or not people actually still shake hands anymore before the guy's shoulders drop, and he stands up a little straighter.
"Castiel Milton."
Dean nods a beat too long, holds Castiel's hand a beat too long, until he lets go finally.

Hey there I know I'm asking a random Tumblr writer but I saw y'all talking about studying and such, can you guys please give me advice on studying effectively? My parents don't know how to help and I'm genuinely like..dumb, but I will try my best , I am trying my best but it's just not working,I'm at the brink of giving up but I believe that I can do it but the goal is soo.far.away. , great now I'm teary eyed. Academically sexy people please help
i LOVE giving study tips <33333333 no one usually listens to me but maybe these will help you ^-^)
depending on the subject its best to have a color system with pens or markers/highlighters, keep it at 3 colors to start and then add more as you see fit YOU DON"T NEED NO FANCY MARKERS GO BUY CRAYOLA OR OFF BRAND MARKERS AINT NO ONE JUDGING YOU///ex. blue-review/exam questions you got wrong to go back and study, red- impt terms/remember this, black- examples/dates/names/lecture notes
PLEASE- write a mini review/summary of what you learned that day/ch like on a sticky note or make a journal/google doc just for reviews or even on the textbook, having smt to look back on will help refresh your memory b4 the exam VS being like me and spending a whole weekend reviewing 80 chapters but not being able to really understand it and failing my exam by a point UGH
if you fail just suck it up and keep going, i still need to remind myself this but like as long as you pass be it the lowest score possible or the highest as long as you make it by the borderline score that's all that matters
READ THE CHAPTER/MATERIAL B4HAND, omg this helped me soooooooo much and also on a sticky or separate sheet of paper/or like doodle a question mark write questions abt what you didn't understand and then see if the teacher answers them during class, if they don't ask them after class
there are no dumb questions period, its the teacher's job to help you learn as a student, say your question no matter how silly or simple bc chances are there are 5 other kids thinking the same thing, if the teacher gives you attitude abt it bc there are some that do ask the internet and others in class maybe they'll be able to help/
make a study playlist/collection, i have a youtube playlist dedicated to classical music, lofi, video game soundtracks, or chinese instrumentals to listen to while i study bc it just makes it more pleasant and my house is too noisy so i just listen to music and study
DRINK WATER!!! and snack on smt too
do yourself a favor and try the 25 min study and 5 min break method, just when you do your break actually get up and walk around or use the bathroom don't just sit there, and come back ontime
do a little tracker thingy, like make check boxes/list of what you need to do and give yourself the joy of filling in all the boxes with a check or sticker and reward youreslf afterwards
keep track of your deadlines <333 like make a reminder on your phone or sticky note it
if you geniunely can't study or feel stuck stop for the day and take a shower, go watch smt nice, play your pizza game on your phone, or eat a meal, you shouldn't be studying 24/7 you're only human
i can do more but i feel like you'll get too scared but one more impt thing is to never ever ever call yourself dumb or look down on your progress, the you you are now is completely different from january you, acknowledge what you've done and take a moment to feel proud of yourself, you did good <3
if you have any other tips and tricks that've helped you plz share in the ask box or comment on this post plz and thank you, hope this helps anon

The way some people on witchblr talk about psychosis/schizophrenia, delusions, etc. is so degrading.
"We're not like those CRAZY people" yeah? say the wrong words to the wrong person and you too can experience the humiliation and lack of agency given to psychotic/schizophrenic people. Undo your own sanism.

Cornish Witchcraft by Kelvin I Jones
Pamphlet of Cornish witchcraft, posted here because mostly falls under folklore vs hard and fast witchcraft resources. Has some 'celtic soup' - author uses Irish holidays (that're put through Wiccan-ification) rather than the Cornish holidays he's referencing, along with mislabelling of piskeys as fairies/fairy folklore, speculates heavily on a triple goddess type figure (though doesn't outright call it that, references mother/crone aspects) and pre-Christian deities. Mentions Bucca by name for once! Generally pretty fun read though! Delves into a lot of niche Cornish traditions that're largely unrecorded.

Not Exhaustive Content warnings under the cut
Bodily fluids (including blood + urine), animal death| + hunting, human death, drowning, immolation, use of human remains in witchcraft, mentions of various illnesses & parasites, some ableist outdated language

What is a commonplace book
Commonplace books are a method of compiling knowledge into one place, traditionally by handwriting but more recently with computers/word processors. They’re different from journals in that rather than containing exclusively personal thoughts or feelings, they’re a collection of external writings, informations, or other snippets of things recorded whenever it is encountered + usually organised.
To simplify – a commonplace book contains anything that captured it’s owners attention! Poems, extracts of fiction & non fiction writings, remarks or comments by others, anecdotes, observations, pertinent images, or other things along the same lines are all things that belong in a commonplace book!
Commonplace books have quite the history – their uses range between reading logs, reference books for students, and historically they were required by young women to demonstrate their upbringing.
How do they work
The exact system you use in your commonplace book is entirely up to you and what you will remember to use. Usually information is organised under themed/topic-based headings, but this can be as flexible or stiff as the keeper desires. My personal commonplace book is organised by source material – all of my book extracts & notes are kept together and demarcated by paperclips.
A commonplace book has no requirements in terms of physical format, size, page type, etc. As long as it is something you will be able to keep using happily! There is also no rules around decorating any pages with stickers or washi tape, or any rules around using sticky notes to add information on the go.
A commonplace book can also be as expansive or restricted as possible in terms of subject matter. For example, I keep a specific commonplace book for Babalon & Sekhmet. Nothing else enters this book.
What’s their use in religious practice or witchcraft?
A commonplace book can function as an in-between for a Grimoire (a book of magical knowledge and instruction, usually written by someone else and usually for transmitting knowledge within a specific tradition or branch of religion/witchcraft) & a Witchbook/Book of Shadows (more akin to a magical/religious journal for recordkeeping). They’re also exceptionally useful if you read a lot of metaphysical, occult or spiritual/religious books and want to keep organised notes in a hard copy form!
Commonplace books can be used to record interesting information from other, non-metaphysical but useful sources too, foraging notes and recipes are an obvious choice to keep a record of, along with notes about celestial events from astronomy sources.
In some cases, a commonplace book can also be a devotional activity, or a shrine of sorts. Commonplace books as a devotional activity is easy to parse – collecting and mindfully recording information about an entity, deity, divinity or other spirit is a good means to show care and interest.
A commonplace book as a shrine has a similar function to an e-shrine on tumblr, by collecting things that remind or represent an entity, deity, divinity or other spirit, a notebook can be made into a shrine or sacred object. This can also be a useful way to have a sacred touchpoint with an entity and keep it relatively out of sight, for those who are not open about their practice.

My #1 post of 2022
Paleoancestor veneration
Tumblr media
Paleoancestors (also called deep time ancestors) are a collection of Ancestors I’ve not often seen talked about. There is a lot of overlap between paleoancestor veneration and paleoanimism/deep time spirit work – it is important to establish a firm connection with the paleoancestors you’re interested in venerating so they have a link to you as well. It’s also something I’ve found to be far more research-heavy than ancestor work involving humans and both more enjoyable and more challenging (palaeontology talks are enlightening but can also be an information overwhelm).
There are two main branches of paleoancestor work that I’ve found, that being paleoancestor archetypes and paleoancestor individuals (there are many mammoths, but only one Mammoth). I have a preference for the archetypes over individuals currently so the majority of this post will be from that perspective. Paleoancestor veneration is a practice I’ve found to be incredibly meaningful and a way to connect to the world around me.
There are a few methods I’ve used to contact paleoancestors, the main one being ‘walking back’ (a meditative exercise posted below). My second favourite option is connecting via the land and taking into consideration what megafauna + other extinct beings would have inhabited it before me - it’s easy to find what fossils have been discovered in your area and what more recently extinct animals called it home.
‘Walking back’
A technique I’ve found fantastic for initially contacting paleo-ancestors is ‘walking back through time.’ It’s a meditative exercise that roughly follows this structure:
Find yourself at the mouth of a cave through whichever sense you find best – smell the damp cave walls, touch the rough rock, or look down into the depths.
Enter the tunnel, feel the ridges of rock layers on the wall and the fossils embedded within, feel the history of the rock and look at the striations of time.
Walk deeper into the tunnel, find yourself travelling back through the ages, past the industrialisation of the world, past the spreading of agriculture. With each major mark of an extinction event, find a branching passage.
When you find a passage that feels ‘right’, explore it – walk down it, feel and look at the fossils extruding from the walls. At the end, there is a light and fresh air – perhaps it has a peculiar taste to it if you are in the Cambrian era, or maybe it is heavy with moisture from a Cretaceous polar forest.
Emerge from the tunnel into a new, exciting, unexplored place. Venture into the environment and see what approaches you. If at any point you are afraid, or in danger, there is an easy out – look down at your feet for a hole, crevice or chasm into the ground below and slip into it, back into the tunnel, and walk home.
Communication
Ancestors communicate in different ways, depending on the era they are from. Pikaia has a much more basal version of communicating with me, a human, than Cave Lion does. Pikaia only communicates with the most basic essence of a sentence or message: it resembles talking with ‘feeling words’ only but has no bearing on the depth or complexity of the messages
An example of this is, when seeking advice on a situation regarding anxiety for the summer, Pikaia’s advice was “warmth, joy, blue (colour)” and I roughly interpreted as the summer will be joyful and warm if I make it that way, but not to forget my needs (the blue colour’s meaning in my personal practice).
Cave Lion’s communication style is much more familiar to me and uses full sentences (though, he is reserved with how much he speaks).
Something that has been invaluable with paleoancestor work is keeping a constant record of communication, advice, and lessons. This is especially important if engaging with them on a personal level outside of asking for general advice and favours at an ancestor altar. This has been most helpful with learning Pikaia’s communication style!
Not all deep time ancestors are receptive to human contact (at least initially), especially if they are a relatively recently extinct animal whorse distruction humans may have played a part in. I’ve found that giving them gifts and allowing them to dictate the terms of communication (within reason) is deeply helpful and even gives them space to grieve their loss. The most recent experience of mine that has made this necessary is Aurochs, who expressed grief and rage over her own species fate as well as the fate of her descendants (domesticated cows).
Outside of direct communication through meditation, it is entirely dependent on the ancestor what they’d prefer as an intermediary. Cave Lion talks through my animal tarot, Aurochs prefers only direct astral communication, and Pikaia works in mysterious ways and will only occasionally talk through specific decks, tools, or will sometimes appear through my intuition.
Altars and gifts
This is entirely dependent on the ancestor – Pikaia has not asked for anything beyond that I swim in the ocean regularly, while Cave Lion asked for a hand-drawn charcoal art piece reminiscent of cave art and an object so I can carry him with me regularly. Aurochs has asked of me that I don’t consume beef at all and dairy as rarely as possible (which is something I am okay with doing for her), because of her grief over the loss of her species. Altar-wise, I’ve given all of them the option of space on my main working place side by side with the deities I connect with. This is where Cave Lion’s art lives, along with a dish for any food gifts they may request or receive as a surprise.
As a semi-gift for my paleo-ancestors I follow rewilding projects closely and involve myself with the land & sea – it’s something that has been fairly continuous throughout time after all. Keeping the environment free of litter, well cared for and 'understood' has also helped strengthen my connections to them. This has extended into the political too – trespass and rewilding are political issues that I’ve thrown my weight behind (along with various others).
Paleoancestor veneration is a practice I’ve found to be incredibly meaningful and a way to connect to the world around me and something I am always excited to talk about and share with other folks that might not realise it's an option! My askbox is open for any questions about any of the above post.

who needs IDs, how do they help and why are they used? i've always been curious, i mean no harm by asking, so sorry if this is rude
Not rude at all anon, I'm so glad you asked!! Image descriptions are accessibility aids for vision-impaired folks and anyone who may have issues parsing an image (ex: an autistic person unable to comprehend a visually busy art piece). For people who can't see an image for any reason, IDs provide a way to understand what's on screen, whether it's a meme or tweet or art. For example, a blind person using a screen reader (a device that reads text out loud) wouldn't know what an undescribed all-image post was talking about, but with an ID they could know it's a tweet and then a meme mocking it
IDs can look abstruse and intimidating when you're unfamiliar with them, but I promise they're not! The simplest step to making your blog more accessible is scanning the notes of a post to find a comment with an ID and reblogging that version of the post instead! If you're interested in learning how to write your own IDs, I really love this post as a resource, plus the amazing People's Accessibility Server if you have questions or want to request descriptions! I'd also like to plug my pinned post, which has a link to a doc with templates for a ton of memes so you can describe posts yourself!
I hope this wasn't too much text and that your question was answered clearly, anon! Please feel free to go through my "image descriptions" and "accessibility" tags for more info!

Copying tags in accessible ways on mobile
(Large text: Copying tags in accessible ways on mobile)
People screenshot tags all the time, whether to share a funny joke or add important commentary, but they often don't realize that this is inaccessible to vision-impaired people and many others. This is a problem because a lot of people primarily use Tumblr on the mobile app, which doesn't let you interact with tags at all unless you screenshot them. However, accessibility is always worth the extra time and effort you can spare, so here are some ways for you to easily copy tags without spending too much of either!
Image-to-text softwares
(Large text: Image-to-text softwares)
If you simply must screenshot those tags, you can still convert them back into usable text! There are plenty of easy-to-use websites that allow you to take any downloaded image and extract the text from them. I prefer onlineocr.net, but the Google Translate app has the same feature! All you need to do is input the image and hit the button, and it'll spit out the text for you to copy. This method is fantastic for images with lots of text, not to mention it's easy to do and generally accurate, and I use it all the time to great effect!
Going to browser
(Large text: Going to browser)
If you're on mobile, it's probably a safe bet to say that your phone also has a browser app. If so, all you need to do to copy the tags from a post is copy the link of said post into a browser and then copy the tags from there. This method can mean extra formatting, since hashtags and links won't copy over, but it's relatively low-effort to do and doesn't take long at all!
Going on PC
(Large text: Going on PC)
If you're on mobile, you can also consider saving the post with desired tags to your drafts. This means you can easily access it on another device, aka a computer, and copy the tags there! Copying tags on desktop is possibly the easiest way to do it, since all you need to do is highlight the text and paste it later- it'll even save the link formatting when you do! The only extra step you might have to do is add spaces between the tags, since they'll automatically come smushed together and only separated by hashtags. This method might mean you take a little longer to reblog the tags, but it is very much worth it to make the post accessible to all!
Going forth
(Large text: Going forth)
These methods are a smidgen more effort than just screenshotting or prev tagging, but I don't think it's a bad tradeoff at all! I hope this can provide quick and easy ways for everyone to get more used to thinking more conscientiously about accessibility. And these aren't your only options- alt text helps people who use screenreaders, and you should always add an image description below screenshots if you're going to add them. Hope this helps!
TL;DR: Instead of screenshotting tags, which makes them inaccessible, other options are: using image-to-text software, copying the tags on a mobile browser, or copying them on desktop Tumblr.

How to Keep Doing Descriptions (from someone who does a fuckton)
Plain text: How to Keep Doing Descriptions (from someone who does a fuckton)
This is a list aimed mostly at helping people who already write IDs; for guides at learning how to do them yourself, check my accessibility and image description tags! I write this with close to two years of experience with IDs and chronic pain :)
Get used to writing some IDs by using both your phone and your computer, if you can! I find it easier to type long-form on my laptop, so I set up videos and long comics on my phone, which I then prop up against my laptop screen so I can easily reference the post without constantly scrolling or turning my head
I will never stop plugging onlineocr.net. I use it to ID six-word tags, screenshots of posts, and even comic dialogue! On that last note, convertcase.net can convert text between all-caps, lowercase, sentence case, and title case, which is super helpful
Limit the number of drafts/posts-to-be-described you save. No, seriously. I never go above 10 undescribed drafts on any of my four blogs. It doesn’t have to be that low, but this has done wonders (italics: wonders) for my productivity and willingness to write IDs. If I ever get above that limit, even if it’s two or three more, I immediately either describe the lowest-effort post or purge some, and if I can't do that then I stop saving things to drafts no matter what. No exceptions! Sticking to this will make your life so much easier and less stressful
My pinned post has a link to a community doc of meme description templates!
Ask! For! Help! Please welcome to the stage the People’s Accessibility Server! It’s full of lovely people and organized into channels where you can request/volunteer descriptions and ask/answer questions
I make great use of voice-to-text and glide typing on my phone to save my hands some effort!
Something is always better than nothing!!! A short two-sentence or one-sentence ID is better than no ID at all. Take it easy :)
If you feel guilty about being unable to reblog amazing but undescribed art, try getting into the habit of replying to OP’s post to let them know you liked it! This makes me feel less pressured to ID absolutely everything I see
I frequently find myself looking at pieces of art which feel like they need to be considered for a bit before I can write an ID for them, and those usually get thrown into drafts, where the dread for writing a comprehensive ID just builds. Don’t do that! Instead, try just staying in the reblog field for a bit and focus on the most relevant aspects of the piece. Marinate on them for a little; don’t rush, but don’t spend more than a handful of seconds either. I find after that the art becomes way easier to describe than it initially seemed!
On that note, look for shortcuts that make IDs less taxing for you to do! For example, I only ever describe clothes in art if they're relevant to the piece; not doing that every time saves a lot of time and energy for me personally
Building off of that, consider excusing yourself from a particular kind of ID if you want to. Give yourself a free pass for 4chan posts, or fanart by an artist who does really good but really complex comics, whatever. Let it be someone else's responsibility and feel twice as proud about the work that you can now allot more energy to!
As always, make an effort to find and follow fellow describers! It’s always encouraging to get described posts on your dash, and I find that sometimes I'm happier to ID an undescribed post when the person who put it on my dash is a friend who tagged it with "no ID"
TL;DR: To make ID-writing less stressful and more low-effort, use different devices and software like onlineocr.net and voice-to-text, limit the amount of work you expect yourself to do, and reach out to artists and other describers!

Tweet on X: Share valuable insights, quick tips, and relevant product information on Twitter, including your affiliate links. Use hashtags to increase visibility and attract your target audience.
Create Pinterest Pins: Pinterest is a visual search engine, and it's an excellent platform to drive free traffic to your affiliate links. Create attractive pins that lead to your blog or a landing page containing your affiliate products.
Start a Blog or Niche Website
Blogging is one of the most effective free strategies for promoting affiliate links. A well-optimized blog can drive organic traffic for years, creating a steady income stream.
Write Product Reviews: Create detailed and honest reviews of the products you're promoting. Highlight the pros, cons, and features, and include your affiliate links in the review.
Publish How-To Guides: Write informative guides or "how-to" articles that provide value to your readers. If a product you're promoting is relevant to the topic, include affiliate links naturally within the content.
Create a Resource Page: Consider creating a dedicated page on your blog where you list your favorite tools and resources. Use affiliate links for each product you recommend.
Optimize for SEO: Focus on Search Engine Optimization (SEO) by targeting relevant keywords. Use free tools like Google Keyword Planner, Ubersuggest, or AnswerThePublic to find low-competition keywords that your target audience is searching for.
Utilize YouTube for Video Marketing
Video marketing is booming, and YouTube is the second-largest search engine in the world. Creating a YouTube channel is an excellent way to promote affiliate links for free.
Unboxing and Review Videos: Create engaging videos where you unbox and review the products you're promoting. Provide genuine feedback and include your affiliate link in the video description.
Tutorial and How-To Videos: Record step-by-step guides or tutorial videos showing how to use a product or service. Include affiliate links in the description or as clickable cards in the video.
Optimize Video Descriptions: Use relevant keywords in your video title, description, and tags. Add your affiliate links in the description, along with a compelling call-to-action to encourage viewers to click.

Email marketing is a powerful way to promote affiliate links, and you can start building an email list without any initial investment.
Use Free Email Marketing Tools: Platforms like Mailchimp, MailerLite, and Sendinblue offer free plans that allow you to build and manage your email list at no cost. Use these tools to send regular newsletters with affiliate links.
