Sketching star wars ship
youtube
Inspired by this YouTube video, I decided to draw the Star wars too!
I didn't draw my own spaceship but I did draw one of the robots from star wars it took about an hour!

Star Wars ship design
youtube
EC Henry (the youtuber) has done research on star wars ship designs extensively. The key to designing a star wars ship has 3 features to include when creating the ships:
1. Iconic silhouette
2. Correct materials
3. Proper inspiration
Iconic silhoette: Having specific and unique silhouette that apply to only that ship. If the designs were coloured in one colour and lined up, you want to be able to point out and identify each shape.
Correct materials: Flat plains and shells are used to model the ships. Flat plains can be bent in shape and easily cut into the shapes. Shells can be wrapped into the right shape. Even if the shape design is amazing, if it's bright punk or made from fabric but it wouldn't work in the context of Star Wars.
Proper inspiration: Star Wars vehicles have a link to real vehicles, such as planes and solar panels, real space craft concepts, etc. The key to creating designs are to use real world things rather than relying on just your imagination.
It's not limited to vehicles, the Tie Fighter was inspired by solar panels!

Lego Bionicle
Bionicle and lego have partnered up to make lego sets of the bionicle brand! Now you can have little bionicle robots on your shelf after making them!
What's cool is that this set has custom Lego parts just for these specific robots.

Bioshock
Ive played part of this game but kept getting distacted by the cool details in the tecturing of the settings.
Very cool game, I like the concept art and the gameplay. It's spooky in a fun way, and it has a good plot.
Have a look at the interesting shapes and uses the robots have!

Detroit: become human
Set in detroit 2038, technology has become so advanced that humans have become almost completely replaced by robots that act the same way humans do; they speak, move, and behave like humans, but aren't.
The game allows you the option to choose who you will see their world as out of 3 characters. (markus, kara and connor)
I love that every choice you make affects the entire game, so it's completely filled with possibilities and has incredible replayability.
nnbThis fits with our project because of robots.and 'taking over'' almost in an alien way.
I've not played this game, my friend was really into it for a while.

9 (The animated film)
I actually own this on dvd, but i've never watched it, it seems strange.
Maybe i'll watch it for research.
9 summary: Post apocolyptic - no humans. Sentient ragdolls, hunting machines. 9 find out why they want to hunt humans.
I like that plot, it seems fun
The robot looks awesome, its a cool shape and gowing red eye(?).

Johnny 5
Kindof cool, reminds me of wall-e or those binoculars you pay to see through over a beach or large city tourist spots.
I like the triangular track it uses to get around with and the exposed wires in the neck. Visually interesting but doesn't engage me into the story of this character or the world it lives in as much as the other robots. Not the design's issue, i'm just not the target audience, it does look really sweet though.

The Iron Giant
I love a gentle giant.
The massive giant has a kind heart, the human looking design works for the movie as its simple enough for the animators at the time to animate, I'm assuming mixed media (3d and 2d). It helps the viewer connect with the giant as its a movie about not being rude to those who are different.
I'm going to watch this movie later today if I remember!

District 9 exosuit
Looks like a banana
I like that it's a vessel for a human to get inside control with lots of protection from the outside, maybe war?
The asymmetrical antenna at top are cool, along wirh the arms being designed for handling diferent things. The rest of these robots are very symmetrical in comparison.

Eva unit 01
Looks quite evil, could be the stance or the purple and green which are common colours for evil characters especially in disney animations.
Its an odd design, you can't tell what theme it has just by looking at it, it's got rectangles on its arm for no reason, it's not going to glide with those, a random unicorn horn, the random bump out in the groin area is unnecessary, it's just weird
The only thing I like about it is the torso reminds me of a bugs exoskeleton

Canti from FLCL
I love her so much!
I've not watched the animals this robot is from but I want to just from it's design!
Canti looks friendly with her light colours, short physique and exaggerated proportions like large hands and small feet!
The screen on her face is a unique feature in this list, it can express lots of emotion. The animators know how to pose the character too, as this pose alone shows more personality that most of this list.
While looking for photos of Canti there's multiple designs, so I'm assuming in the show she goes through different phases of self exspression?
I'm really confused about the guitar. It looks electric and acoustic at the same time

AT-ST
AT-ST is the first non human robot on this list! It looks like a transportation robot as its large with handrails on top with legs to move with. It also looks used for protection, as it has shooters on it.
Not quite enough for battle as the design looks like it'd be knocked down or broken fairly easy, maybe to protect yourself against a few dangerous people.

K2S0
Creepy but curious
The slim features and having it look human like works well for this robot.
K2S0isfrom star wars which has a large variety of robots mostly looking wild and looking like anything, there's only a handful that look humanoid, eg the golden one. So I assume the human design is to make you feel uncertain and uncomfortable because it's almost human like but not.

VF-1 Valkyrie
Aeroplane robot!!
I like robots that can transform into other things, I've not seen an aeroplane one before, this is quite cool!
The only thing I dislike about it is the highlighter yellow on it, other than that it looks pretty snazzy and works for what it is

Voltron cat robot
Funny cat robot
I like this one more than gundam because it has more personality, a number on it to make you interested in the story, how many otherrobots are there? Who are ones before him?
Also he has cats for feet, helmet and hands which is super silly like it, it's an interesting design because the jaw of the cat on the hands would be it's thumb, to when the robot opens its hand the mouth opens on the cat.
Kinda like a hand puppet! That may be a stretch though.
I like this pose, makes him look really tall.

RX-78-2 Gundan
I like the design, though it's a bit boring as it's just a metal human which reminds me of transformers.
The orange and blue are nice colours to break up the white, and the yellow accents are a nice touch. (This is split complimentary)
The massive gun and sheild are funny to imagine, A gun bigger than you is an interesting thought.
The antenna on the head remind me of bug antenna
